A little Patrick Wilson appreciation post, because the newest "Insidious" movie is out. I haven't seen Patrick's director debut yet, but I am so looking forward to it. Also the credit song "Stay" with the band Ghost is so goood (。♡‿♡。)
I did photoshootings as Lou Solverson from the Fargo TV series (photos by dreamstyle.photos) and two cosplay or rather make-up/wig tests as Edward Warren from The Conjuring and Captain Glenn from Space Station 76.

nanorecensioni sci-fi: Space Station 76 (2014)
Non è fantascienza. Si apprezzano la sceneggiatura e i costumi anni 70. Commedia agrodolce deprimente.
Suggestivo un cazzo.

Well, it's been a good run, but they've finally done it to me. My home province has, at long last, and after many years of threats, made truck-owning a mandatory part of citizenship. All those impoverished small-car freaks can't vote anymore. Which is good, since they were just voting for things like "bike lanes" and "turns" that were hampering the economic productivity of the right-thinking, truck-owning majority.
At first, I was very upset. After a traumatic formative experience around the Ford Courier, I had sworn off truck ownership forever. When I was searching my backyard, though, I found that I apparently own an old '76 International 150. Don't know where it came from: I'm operating on the assumption that someone was driving by, saw a whole bunch of cars in my yard, and decided I wouldn't get upset if they dumped one in there. Was it used in the commission of a crime? Not with that asthmatic rattletrap V8 under the hood, that's for sure. Or at least not successfully.
Back to it, though: now, with proof of ownership, I could regain my lost citizenship. I could access health care and have running water, again, and even visit the Home Depot, which now has so many trucks in the parking lot that the depreciation curve on their leases can be seen from the International Space Station. Despite the fact that my truck is "small," it still counted as a way to hobnob with the hoi polloi and not be sent directly to a re-education camp, as they had done to all the undesirable "van people." Turns my stomach, the idea that vans are often built on a truck chassis. Disgusting propaganda.
Anyway, as we've learned from so many other economic and political crises, the only solution is to vote our way out of it. When it comes time for the next election, I'll come pick a few of you "regular people" up at a time and drive you to the polling place. That ought to fool the guards. It's going to cost you, sure: hope you have some old Plymouth parts in your garage. All worth it, though, to wrest control of the apparatus from those who would do us harm, and return our country to the way it used to be, where kids could go to school even if their parents only owned a luxury crossover.

Mir Dreams - June 3rd, 1996.
"This dream-like image of Mir was recorded by astronauts as the Space Shuttle Atlantis approached the Russian Space Station prior to docking during the STS-76 mission. Sporting spindly appendages and solar panels, Mir resembled a whimsical flying insect as it orbited above New Zealand's South Island, near the Cook Strait. Atlantis shuttled astronaut Shannon W. Lucid to Mir for a 140 day visit, increasing the Mir's occupancy from two to three. It would return to pick Lucid up and drop off astronaut John Blaha during the STS-79 mission, which was scheduled for launch on July 31st, 1996."

The Star Trek Saga No One Wanted 😛 Pt. 1
Okay, ya'll these guys have been in the making since like ...... 2017? When I first started watching ST:TOS. I finally refined them and will be refining fics me and my friends made to post on AO3. There are 4 of these bitches. Ylva, Gaius, Selene, and Kyle. Selene and Kyle are being refined but I got the main two players!
Ylva is a species I created so her character sheet will be the longest.
P.S. All the art is from my friend or some janky character creating site that technically no longer exists.
[Next - Part 2]
The Goodest Girl, Ylva
Her handlers finally letting her touch grass and she could not be happier
Planet: Canina (Kaw-knee-nah)
Species: Cani (Kay-eye)
Biology: Anthropomorphic, dog-like carnivores, bipedal, with canine features, such as short faces, triangular ears situated higher on the head, large eyes, fangs, claws, and a tail. They are entirely covered in a smooth coat with silky hair on the scalp like humanoids. Coat and hair color are dependent on the sub-species that the individual is most genetically related to. Wolves, coyotes, jackals, and wild dogs such as dholes, and dingoes make up the original gene pool.
However, breeding based on genetic compatibility has resulted in a varied appearance. Cani have claws on their hands and feet. The feet are in a digitigrade configuration. Some prefer going without footwear. Their claws and fangs can be used combatively. Cani also make a variety of dog-like barks, growls, and howls. Cani females experience the need to mate once a year, though breeding is not limited to these times. They possess a heightened sense of hearing, sight, and smell.
Culture: Cani are considered less civilized due to their unwillingness to have contact with other civilizations despite having the technology to do so. However, they do make use of their smaller moon, Weiß (vise). This is where the Standing Council serves as an oligarchy to their socialist government. They practice isolationism since anything outside of Canina is a threat to their society. While xenophobic, they do not claim to be superior beings but aim for self-preservation.
The Standing Council’s main responsibility is to approve of pairings. Canina scientists run a DNA analysis of every individual at the age of maturity. Mating pairs are determined by combining the best genetic matches. Psychological evaluations are also conducted as an adolescent and again when they are selected for pairing. Temperament and personality traits are highly heritable, so this also factors into their eugenics. Upon being bonded, it is customary that the male relocates to their mate’s region and family.
The intense selection process has created a hearty population nearly devoid of disease, lameness and has increased strength. It has even extended life expectancy and aging. Every 1.5 Earth years are equivalent to 1 year of age for Cani. They usually live around 115-120 years (equal to 76-80 mental/physical).
If an individual happens to fail testing, then they are presented to the Standing Council and offered to be sterilized and relocated to anomaly designated regions or to displace. If sterilization is chosen, the individuals act as laborers and farm deer-like creatures called Cervuses (ser-va-seas). Far more anomalies have occurred than the Standing Council admits to the population, but less than 10 instances of exile have occurred in over a century. The Standing Council are the only individuals to possess access to interstellar communication. If a Cani chooses to explant themselves, they will contact a nearby space station to arrange transport.
Behaviors: When Cani greet mates, it’s common to nuzzle their head under the other's jaw. Growling and teeth baring are akin to cursing. Placing their left foot in front of their right, with hands behind their back, and perking their ears is a sign of respect. They literally have their best foot forward; the stomach is exposed to show vulnerability, and they are actively listening.
Families do have a strong attachment, especially siblings. However, rejection is common if a member behaves in a way that is averse to social expectation (i.e. being an anomaly).
Ylva (eel-va)
Life on Canina - Ylva is the eldest of her family’s children. Composed of her great-great grandmother, great grandparents, grandparents, parents, and younger, triplet brothers: Sirius (sear-e-us), Elio (eel-e-o), and Ay (eye). Ylva is 31 years of age, mentally/physically that lines up to about 21 years. Typically, it is around 28 1/2 years that genetic testing is done. However recent declines in food security due to undisclosed revolts in sterilization zones had pushed off the pairing process to insure food supply for the current population.
As an adolescent, Ylva had scored unfavorably on the psychological evaluation. She exhibited personalized interests in comparison to the best interest of the whole. When confronted with this, she resorted to changing her answers and even lying to make up for it. Dissociating from the bigger picture was a big red flag, though she did wish to correct her behavior to regain favor. This could greatly endanger the gene pool if allowed to form a pair-bond. As an adult, she had passed the genetic testing but again, failed the psychological tests. Her family felt the shame of having reared an anomaly. This deeply hurt Ylva, all her family’s affections having been negated to appease the population over their daughter. The Cani has one meeting with their family for goodbyes. It was devastating when her parents told her brothers that they were to act like they never had a sister.
Ultimately, she opted for exile. Even if sterilized, there would be no options to see her family and the sterilization zones offered little in ways of advancement. Being naturally curious it was exciting to explore what was beyond Canina. Once transplanted to the space station, Ylva spent several nights in the short-term dorms. It was when a Starfleet ship had stopped for repairs, that Ylva learned of The Federation. The crew was diverse and included many different species, which appealed to her.
Starfleet Academy Years - Despite Canina’s lack of outside connections, they had an advanced knowledge of hard and soft sciences. Genetics and sociology especially. Ylva scored decently on her entrance exams, and due to her minority status, was admitted to Starfleet Academy. The lack of education in other cultures and species, drove her to the eight-year major of xenoanthropology. The greatest difficulty was overcoming the pack-like familiarity of Canina culture. Their behaviors would seem invasive to others and Ylva spent years correcting this.
Four years were in a classroom setting, solely focused on studying cultures and communication methods. Four more years are required, split up into two years for two different residency studies. Because the academy was on earth, Ylva spent two years studying humans. There had been a rare opportunity to study Romulans in the single embassy of the Romulan Star Empire, located in the neutral zone on Nimbus III. Ylva, for no real reason, spent her last two years there.
After graduation, all potential on-ship cultural experts and diplomats must intern for one year with the Federation Diplomatic Corps (FDC). There they work to provide cultural outreach to Federation citizens abroad.
Marriage to Gaius – Around eight months into her internship, Ylva is called by the FDC to assist in resolving a conflict between the Romulan Star Empire and Federation due to a territory dispute. Despite being several months from graduating, her residency on Nimbus III made her some of the few members to have contact with Romulans in a non-militant setting. Ylva and an ambassador from the FDC, escorted by a Starship, arrive at Nimbus III for the conference. Once there Ylva met with the Praetor, Gaius (guy-s).
Throughout the negotiations, Gaius had been purposely difficult. Ylva, eventually, in an aggressive public display, calls him out on his deliberate attempts to prevent a peaceful treaty. The Federation is horrified at Ylva’s misrepresentation and force her to sit out the rest of the meetings. It is discussed if she should be expelled from Starfleet Academy. Gaius, however, is intrigued by her outburst which is uncommon for Federation meetings and never having encountered a Cani. To The Federation’s surprise, the Praetor requests to negotiate with Ylva privately. He asks about her personal beliefs on the matter at hand as well as posing questions about her. Ylva answers honestly and Gaius seems unmoved. Three days follow where both parties are at a stalemate, as the Praetor refuses to even talk. Finally, he says that he will only establish the terms of their agreement with Ylva. The Praetor’s willing to remove his armada from the neutral zone and resume the original boundaries, if Ylva will enter a Trust Bond. This is the equivalent to pair-bonding in her culture and is, essentially, marriage.
He explains that he has yet to choose a wife as there hasn’t been one that proposed an advantage. Gaius had been wanting to establish a better form of communication between the Romulan Empire and The Federation, but it was not in Romulan nature to be passive. Ylva, being a diplomat and one of the few to observe and understand Romulans, would make exchanges smoother. As Trust Bonds are considered a three-way marriage between the two partners and The Empire, she would be able to safely work between the two parties. He, of course, is lying. Ylva, who had never considered a partner, the point of her banishment was so she could not pair with someone, agreed to the terms. It would be very transactional, with official paperwork as to the conditions of the marriage.
The Federation is embarrassed at the medieval way of establishing diplomacy, but are desperate to have some peace with the Romulan Star Empire. With her explicit consent, the rest of the conference establishes the responsibilities of each party. Gaius has agreed to keep Romulan warships out of the neutral zones. Ylva agrees to be at the Praetor’s disposal for any situation regarding the Empire and Federation. Her job is not to create a peace treaty, but to prevent aggression.
Gaius arranges for them to go to Romulus where a so'rdaz (s-oh ur, dahz) is performed. The ceremony involves a type of mind-meld, which is when Ylva discovers Gaius’ true intentions and motives.
5 Year Mission - Upon graduation Ylva is assigned to the U.S.S Enterprise, as Lieutenant Ylva, Cultural Expert and On-Board Diplomat. Diplomacy is considered to be a type of communication and therefore falls under operations, so Ylva wears a red dress uniform. Her direct supervisor is Lieutenant Uhura who heads the communication division, then Lt. Commander Scott who oversees all departments in operations, followed by Commander Spock and Captain Kirk.
Ylva has a strong adherence to the chain of command. However, she frequently teases her equals. Her training in neutrality has allowed her to make friends easily due to her unbiased nature. She takes her position very seriously and places that as the highest priority.
It had been a decade since Ylva left Canina and at the start of the five year mission she is 41 years (mentally/physically, 27 years).
It is typical that any planet landing outside of Federation territory requires a brief medical evaluation post contact to ensure the crews’ health. Typically, the nurses perform this, but due to Ylva’s rare species, a doctor must personally attend to it. Ylva is deathly afraid of medbay and anything to do with medical procedures. Her species had utilized eugenics so effectively that, upon discovering the concept of a hospital, Ylva developed a deep fear of ingesting mysterious pills and being cut open, needles especially. This makes McCoy’s job difficult as she actively avoids him when she’s to report to medbay. McCoy can only get her to comply by pulling rank and it is a struggle to get the most basic procedures done.
Fun Fact - During her first years on Earth, someone had derogatorily given her dog treats. Not knowing the implication, she gratefully accepted and they are now her favorite snack.

I'm probably going to build a micro garden reailway in the near future, but first let me explain to the non-railfans who follow me what a garden railway even is because I need to infodump about something.
What is a Garden Railway?
Put it simply, a garden railway is a blend of two otherwise seperate hobbies, railway modelling and gardenning.
Typically, railway modelling is about the persuit of historical and technical realism on a small scale with regards to anything involving steel-wheeled vehicles running on steel rails. That said there are those who simply run trains straight from the packaging on track placed straight on the floor and that's fine.
With a garden railway, the focus shifts away from an almost sterile realism towards a more impressionist's view of a railway running through a landscape, whith emphasis on the landscape being alive.
more than anything I think it's about embracing the joy of enjoying one's hobbies in the great outdoors
So how am I, a queer, unemployable person on benefits going to build a garden railway, especially when all the examples I've used are so grand and spacious?
let me tell you about a little something called scale and gauge
out of the diagram above, Gauge 1 (1:32 scale/45mm track) is the most popular size for garden railways, both historically and current. O scale (1:43 scale/32mm track) is probably the second most popular, being the smallest practical scale for live steam, that's real working steam engines on a sminiature scale.
OO scale (1:76 scale/16.5mm track) the most popular scale all around in the UK, has a fringe use in garden settings, but can create some spectacular scenes if sweeping views of main line cuttings and embankments are your thing.
I'm going with OO scale, but I'm not modelling standard gauge, instead I'm using a narrow gauge standard called OO9. that is to say 1:76 scale trains running on 9mm track, for a scale track gauge of about 2 foot 3 inches (686mm).
a 6 foot by 2 foot raised planter will be all I need for a sizable circuit of track with a branchline and two stations, there's also space to play with hight by having the branchline finish at a lower level than the main running line. the first image is the planter I have lined up, the second image is the rough track plan I've made so far, using the theoretical maximum inside dimensions of the planter as the space I've got to work with.
I already have one starter pack of OO9 track, which contains a full loop and a bunch of straight sections plus a couple of points, which is a decent portion of the costs taken care of. The planter itself is £100, which is also affordable for me.
The unknown for me at this time is what plants to use. It'll probably be figured out as I go but I'm drawn towards alpines because small trains should run through small plants, however I also want flowering plants to encourage pollonators in the city I live in.
I'm also drawn to the idea of a small pond situated by the end of the branchline with the main circuit running directly over the water via a trestle bridge. I'm tempted to look at aquatic plants to help take care of the water but I need to do more research on this front.
all going well I should be able to start work on this after september, and unlike other projects I intend to see this through to the end.
#Nova's micro garden railway#I just wanna see my tiny trains running among tiny plants#I have a list of abandoned projects a mile long so I hope I can make a start on this

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan, March 4, 1976
In a miraculous turn of events, I'll be heading out west to see Neil Young & Crazy Horse in a couple weeks. To say I'm excited is what you'd call a major understatement. What deep cuts will they play? Will Neil debut Greendale II: Sun Green Strikes Back in its entirety? Will Billy Talbot make it to the end of "Like A Hurricane"?! Who can say. But it's going to be good.
To get fired up, let's listen to some Crazy Horse this week. We'll kick things off with what is perhaps my favorite tour — Japan '76! I've written plenty about this era; there's something about the Horse's energy and purity during these shows that just grabs me every time. The audience tapes sound cool as hell, too; those polite Japanese crowds (though Neil has to ask them to hold off on clapping along until the electric set), Neil's unreal guitar work (vicious harmonics everywhere!) bouncing around the big open spaces, the intense thud of the rhythm section.
Over on the Dollar Bin, my brother details how we were introduced to Neil in Osaka via a shady cassette bootleg sometime circa 1993. I can remember listening to it over and over again — blown away by the fact that he was playing "Country Home" back in those days (and "Too Far Gone"!), blown away by the guitars, blown away by the moment when everything cut out and a Mexican radio station cut in for 10 seconds. I was blown away by Talbot's bass playing, too. I was just getting into playing music myself, and I listened Billy's caveman style and thought: "Maybe I could try to do that?" Thirty-plus years later I'm still trying.
What I've got for you here today is not in fact that Osaka tape — it's from the first of three shows that Neil and the Horse played at this venue. But even though it doesn't have the debut performance of "Let It Shine," it's a slightly better recording — and it has an absolutely stunning "Cortez The Killer" closing things out. Dance across the water with me, amigos!
