Honestly, it makes sense that Matt and Trey would write Kyle as the one using Randy's gun in The End of Obesity: Aside from the obvious self defense factor, it's his frustration with the American healthcare system and all the hard work and determination he put in throughout the special being derailed more than once that makes it a valid response/decision.
