fans really out here hating on Tweek, Kenny, and Butter's parents (as they should), but then when Liane who is clearly abusive and neglectful af has a son who acts out due to her terrible parenting suddenly it is 'poor Liane, she doesn't deserve to have a son like Cartman :('

I find the episode “Going Native” so interesting because South Park perfectly encapsulated the continuous settler colonisation that mainland Americans inflict on the island of Hawai’i, as well as exposing the stereotypes that are reinforced against the indigenous population.

The episode starts off with Butters being so uncharacteristically angry, beating up a kid for having diabetes and calling out most of his friends for their self proclaimed expertise, their self-centred nature, their selfishness and cowardice. He carries this anger with him, even when talking to his parents, despite the fact he is usually incredibly obedient and scared of what they might do to him otherwise.

His parents “understand” where this anger is coming from and explain that it is because he is “different” and not from this place but “native” to Hawai’i and that is why he is experiencing these angry and violent spells.

While Butters is not a native Hawaiian, he is presented that way for the plot of the episode and this is when harmful and racist stereotypes of indigenous peoples are reinforced by the foreigners. Natives have historically been seen as angry, selfish and violent “savages”, people unwilling to “share” their land and therefore result to killing and warfare. In terms of Hawaiians specifically, they were painted as people who were uncivilised to rule and often times depicted as caricatures in the press to justify the colonisation of the island.

Not only that, but we also see the bastardisation and co-optation of native Hawaiian culture by foreigners. Use of phrases like “ancient ruins”, the display of making Kenny do a “trial” on a surfboard when Hawaiian are well known voyagers and the very idea of Butters having a “coming of age” ceremony all points to the practise of foreigners “enjoying Hawaiian culture.” However, the culture is often a westernised version of traditional practises. A real life example of this is the “classic” portrayal of a hula dance with a sexualised woman wearing a coconut bra, when in reality the Hula is steeped in Hawaiian folklore and history. It is the same in the episode, with the use of native terminology but in reality these “rituals” and “ancient ruins” were just cheaper copies of tradition.

The biggest take away from this episode is the amount of native Hawaiians that are shown as working for the foreigners that are living and exploiting their land. In the airport, at the food places, as security in the residence. They have to stand there and take people saying they are “native”, flashing their awards card that “proves” they’re “local” while the indigenous people are forced to work for their colonisers. It’s a direct reflection of life in Hawai’i for the natives. A large number of the population live in poverty, with many needing to work in resorts in order to survive, despite the fact that these resorts are taking their native land and making it hard for them to live at home. Pricing them out of their native land.

This episode may be fun, it might focus on two fan favourite characters, but it also gives a good insight on settler colonialism.

I think the Stotches are probably the most fucked up family I've ever seen.

The Stotches are a family in South Park, Colorado. They're the fifth main famly, behind Marshes, Broflovskis, Cartmans, and McCormicks.

The story behind the Stotches is morbid. At first, they seem like gag characters who just ground their son. In reality, they run deep.

How did the Stotches become like this? Well, according to Butterballs, Butters' grandma is a cruel bully. Keep in mind, this is the mother of either Linda or Stephen.

This means that they likely delt with this crulety in their youth. Futhermore, in Fractured But Whole, Stephen has a nightmare about his mom's cruel treatment, which is similar to the abuse Stephen inflicts onto his own son.

In the present, the Stotches seem to be a happy family. That is, until Stephen began a series of affairs with other men behind his family's back. This act of adultery causes Linda to snap, which puts the family into jeopardy.

Linda nearly took her own life, and drown her own son, because of Stephen's actions. But why did Stephen commit these acts? Stephen is clearly either bisexual or a closest homosexual, who appears to be unsatisfied with his marriage. The family seem to have recovered from this tragic event, but it is frequently implied that Stephen continues his infidelity.

In TFBW, Linda reads a magazine; "Dealing with your gay husband". A side quest in the game also involves New Kid breaking into Stephen's safe and finding a photo of him engaging in a sexual activity with a man. "DikinBaus Hot Dogs" heavily leans towards this, where he accuses Butters of attending gloryholes and using affair websites, but quickly leaves to what he says to provide for the family, but its heavily implied that Stephen is doing the things he accused Butters of.

Stephen is worried that his son might turn out the same way as him. In "Cartman Sucks", Stephen sends Butters to a camp that "prays the gay away". When he saw Butters getting sexually assualted by Cartman unknowningly, Stephen is genuinely worried of Butters. He doesn't want him to repeat the same mistake.

It's plausible that Stephen also has OCD. In "The Ungroundable", he goes into a fit when Butters misplaced everything in his pantry. He also becomes weary since the pandemic strikes. All this points to Stephen having a compulsive disorder.

Linda seems to be insecure and weak-willed. She is usually quiet, sobs frequently, is prone to muderous tendecies, and gets envious of others. We know less about Linda than we do about Stephen, but her few major appearances imply an inferior complex. She thinks of her own gifts as lacking compared to Stephen's. Linda also has issues with her body, seen in "End of Obesity" and "Turd Burgulars".

Linda is violent. In "Butters' Very Own Episode", she tries to kill her own son after finding out his husband commited adultery. She and the other moms also attacked the Queer Eyes guys for turning their husbands into "whiny little wusses" in "South Park is Gay". Linda and her mom friends also robbed a bank, beat up a truck driver, and chased the main characters over Ozempic drugs.

Suprisingly, the Stotches are complex. They all need help.

Thinking about Liane x Linda, it's a weird ship but it makes sense trust me (I got inspired from that one zombie au) so allow me to elaborate

CW: They're adults and it's Liane so it has moments +18 I guess?

It all starts with a funny prompt. We know that Stephen is a closeted gay, so what if Linda is a closeted lesbian?

Stephen and Linda are not from South Park as we know from Going Native, as how they met and got together I just don't care at all, it's clear as day they don't love each other lol (I'll still elaborate later). What we know about them is that they got together and had a son for the sole purpose to look "normal" and the both of them are into this narrative

The Stotch's are misogynist and the labors are set clearly in their household with these beliefs. Stephen is the man so he works, Linda is the woman so she's in charge of the house (and possibly never going out) and Butters is the son and he has to behave to not get grounded and later on become the "man" of the house. That's how a "normal" family should be, according to them of course (I don't even need to say why this is wrong). Note: Butters is not at fault for this though, it's not his fault he was raised the way he was raised and in consequence he just repeats these things without knowing how bad they are.

We really don't have information about the Stotch's so I have to fill the gaps with hcs. I believe both Stephen and Linda grew up independently with the conservative mindset of a "normal" family made of a husband, the wife and the children, so when they both reached adulthood and realized they never had an interest in anyone of their contrary gender, they grew desperate to become "normal" before they were too old to get married.

And so they met and quickly got married. To make things sweet for them let's say they married in Hawaii lmao. They convinced themselves about how they actually loved their counterpart and how indeed they were in love, but deep down they knew it wasn't real love. They had Butters in Hawaii

However, since Butters needed to go to school like all kids and the resort they were living in was not the place for that, then they decided to move somewhere else. A quiet place to make them look like a wealthy family (and make them look better than an average family) so they picked South Park to live and stay

Liane always lived in South Park, known as the slut of the town, all the men had probably fucked her. She already had Cartman at this point and was trying her best to be a good mom but her habits were too much and she neglected her son

So the Stotch's move... Next to the Cartman's. Linda and Liane inevitably met and oh dear it was love at first sight, but it was a woman! She just thought she looked pretty for a woman of her age, it was simply admiration! Liane was clueless about Linda's feelings (and the latter will forever hide them)

Said admiration became in arrogance when Linda learned by the rumors about Liane's job. When growing up, Stephen genuinely liked Cartman because he thought he was a nice kid, but Linda knew better, she knew about how a manipulator Eric was, he reminded him of his husband in some ways. But even so, she still liked him and Butters hanging out together because it will always remind her how of a good mother she is unlike Liane

As how they begin it would be after Butters' very own episode, this is when Linda just couldn't deny anymore her husband was cheating on her and she went in deranged mode and almost killed her son. After all of it, she will just pretend everything was ok so she could keep her "normal" family facade for her sake

Still Linda, aware of her husband's misdoings, once thought in probably one of her attacks "why can't I if he does it already?" And decided to listen to her evil thoughts and visited Liane for a night with cash in hand

A relationship that comes to my mind for them is Jaein and Hayoung (they're toxic af) especially from Hayoung's denial in Linda! Jaein is too different from Liane

Oh another thing, Liane always admired Linda for how better of a mother she is than her, she genuinely liked Linda before their night and wanted to talk to her more but she knew Linda was distant with her for some reason unlike Stephen, she assumed it was because of her job

• He moved out on his 18th birthday and cut contact with his family immediately.

• He didn't see them again until his grandmother's funeral when he turned 20. He feels guilty about it, but he smiled a little seeing her dead body.

• His father immediately got angry because Butters hadn't called them and was dressing more feminine than he did as a child. Butters finally lost his cool and cursed out Stephen, releasing all of his pent up rage at his parents. He hasn't spoken to them since.

• Has a big crush on Kenny but he values their friendship too much to act on it.

• Went through an emo phase in middle school

• He's still the same cheerful, happy-go-lucky idiot he always was. But he has way less tolerance for people hurting him and will stand his ground much easier. And he's finally went to therapy so he's not this time bomb of suppressed rage.

• He's kind of strong but he doesn't exercise so he can't lift much.

• Feels like a badass eating raw cookie dough.
