My Hot Take™️ of the season is that the depictions of Jon being the archival scrooge are misguided bc Jon is not actually an xmas hater but rather an xmas traditionalist. He is the guy with the vintage collection of uncanny santa figurines and a few modest strings of lights. He makes his grandmother's affront to god fruitcake recipe and actually enjoys it. His favorite christmas movie is love actually but he'll never admit it because he's a repressed romantic. Meanwhile Martin is the guy who grew up with very little xmas celebration who goes balls to the wall bonkers with the lights and the mistletoe and the ugly ass grandma christmas sweaters and 5 hour playlist of darlene love's baby please come home on full blast and his favorite christmas movie is die hard

To me Mumbo is the type to either never touch caffeine or to be sipping pure undiluted espresso shots out of a thermos at all times, so wired on the stuff he can see into another dimension

gallavich connections to literature
ive been thinking about writing this post for a long time so here it is, hope it makes sense
hero's journey in greek tragedy: in every greek tragedy, the hero's bravery and actions in general will determinate if he deserves or not his happy ending. You can find that in books like The Odyssey by Homero where ulysses has to beat a series of obstacles, odds and tests in order to be able to go home. but it happened so many times in greek literature, if the hero beats those odds and it's brave enough to face the test, he wins that happy ending. every single time a character in some greek tragedy has tried to avoid those odds and tests, he has failed and his ending is most of the time tragic. So how this applies to Ian and Mickey? Well, if you think about it they beat every odd, they faced every test and they fought for their happy ending. That's why they had it, they were brave enough to fought for it even though the universe seemed to be against them and tried to separated them multiple times.
premonition of tragedy: this means there are certain words, phrases that keep repeating and warning about some future danger or tragic destiny. I know some examples from spanish literature like El Caballero de Olmedo by Lope de Vega or Bodas de Sangre by Federico García Lorca where a song keeps repeating through all the play warning about the tragic ending of one or some of the characters. In Shameless, we don't find a song that keeps appearing and follows the characters but we find words, thoughts, fears expressed by others that follow Ian and Mickey. Ian is followed by the idea of him becoming his mum, he's followed by everyone's certainty that it's something that could happen like some inevitable fate. Mickey is followed by his family reputation and how that means there's no future for him, he's followed by the possibility ending up in prison for the rest of his life because that's what everyone expects, him in prison.
character development: in my head, their character development or maybe the reason why the can have the character development feels similar in some ways to another spanish and universal classic, Don Quixote. The main characters of that classic evolve and grow mainly because they're different, because they compliment each other. one is the voice of the reason, the other is wilder and wants to live a memorable adventure. It's a similar thing in ian and mickey's case, they grow and evolve because they're different, because they find what they don't have in the other, because they inspire the other to be better. And with time, they ended up being even a little bit similar because they learned a lot from the other and that helped to built a better version of themselves.
lovers in the medieval sense: they hide, they meet a lot at night and the daylight seems to bring always something bad and separate them. A lot of lovers in medieval literature do this, their love is usually forbidden so they hide and normally can only be together during the night and leave in the morning. So the daylight in the medieval literature meant being apart, meant waiting for the night, meant hating the day even. Love in medieval literature also meant trying to run away and not always being successful because like i said, the daylight brings something tragic and tries to separate the lovers. And this happened in Shameless too, Ian and Mickey tried to run away too and in was during the day that it hit Ian that he couldn't do it even if every night he spent with Mickey made him forget that.
naturalism: i have a post about this, you can read it here !!
