i’ve been loving watching critical role recently if for no other reason than because i get to watch a decent portion of viewers actively falling for cult tactics lmao

a forbes article describes cult tactics as when cult leaders “censor dissenting viewpoints, promote a distorted narrative and use relentless repetition and peer pressure”

ludinus needing to monologue at everyone he meets. cherry picking what information to let people know (ie the orb). showing popular world leaders (gods?) at their absolute worst as a means to win over the vulnerable. creating dissent between cult prospects and the people who they’re close to outside the cult. doesn’t take no for an answer. repeating his points over and over, in whatever context he thinks will be most persuasive. targeting people who’ve lost everything. convincing people that they’re special

ok anyway. i’m killing reblogs/replies on that tully/cat post bc everyone gets on my nerves but let us consult the text for a moment. cat stark isn’t a big mean evil step mother out to get him the entire foundation for the dynamic between her and jon is that he does not exist to her. every memory he has of her is about her ignoring him/looking at him like he is a stranger. she makes up what she thinks he is like after the fact because she functionally never met him despite living with him for 14 years. the single on page interaction they have is when she is in the middle of a nervous breakdown. i need people to have some precision about what this dynamic actually is because it is bad in a very specific and interesting way that affects both characters in a very specific way. the “this is not your place” situation is not grown out of active cruelty it is grown out of total absence

I always have said idgaf about ships but I feel the need to be a patbob girl in a squidbob world.

I think what especially makes this interesting is there is no one in the world Patrick loves more than his bestie bff forever and ever spongebob and that was very apparent in the classic seasons, even in more recent seasons he gets defensive and even jealous of anyone taking Spongey away from him.

The fact that Spongebob is obsessed with Squidward in a way that Patrick can't have is heartbreaking and I love it. Yes! Pour your love into someone who will never return it in the way you yearn for! They appreciate you but they will never feel the same way to you is awful. Patrick isn't smart enough to notice the depth of Spongebob's feelings for Squidward, after all Squidward is Patrick's bestie too. I love this betrayal! Delicious!

(I know people cite against patbob because of how jerky patrick is in the middle seasons but I refuse to see it cuz EVERY character was awful in the middle seasons so I prefer to act like the middle seasons don't count. Squidward tried to kill spongebob in several instances but squidbob shippers close their eyes and ears to it.)

Hello resident animorphs expert! I'm terribly curious: do you have physical copies of all of the books, some favorites, none? I have all my favorites, but every time I'm in a used book store I wonder if I should clear out every copy just to have them all.

If it's within your budget, I say go ahead and get copies. Used bookstores often have to recycle books that don't sell to make room for ones that do, so buying them is preserving them. And not having to go through Rainforest-Destroying eCommerce Monopoly to do so is a huge bonus — I finished my collection with Ebay and Bookshop.Org, but neither place has everything.
