I wonder if there’s ever incarnations of zelda and link where they don’t have to raise against evil
They live their whole lives with a sense of dread for something that never comes
see ive thought about this extensively because of course i have and i cant decide which version is worse. because on the one hand if they only ever reincarnate when they need to kill something that means their souls never really know truly peaceful lives which is awful and horrible but on the other hand if they DO occasionally get peaceful lives then that means that the ones we see get horribly traumatized and live in constant fear and pain could have had peace. if only they were born a little earlier or later. they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. which is equally as horrible. there is no winning here. i hate legend of zelda lore actually
#asks#if i ever get a time machine im breaking into nintendo hq and burning the plans for nes zelda i cant keep doing this forever

As someone who’s Chinese w/ a degree in social science + (art) history regarding East Asia I’m always super intrigued and interested to how others interpret changes in new titles on older religious texts- but I will ask in particular if you have any personal ties to Buddhism/Taoism/Confucianism (and Chinese culture) when you find yourself interpreting BM:W’s change in allegorical use of Buddhism as contemporary political adherence! BM:W’s religious and soul mechanics follows their previous game without much overt linking between the two.
Overthrowing Gods in East Asian media is a very common trope in videos specifically due to player involvement (contrast to books where you are separate as the audience) and often is used as an allegory for the system/recent events we exist in. In such it does shift a lot from the original text in base but I think it’s not supposed to relay the same allegory due to the time period in which the writers exist! Wukong’s story changing to him still being chained by the principles that envelop life is far more relatable to late-stage capitalist environments viewers and artists exist in- as such he fulfils the contemporary variant of his original role in JTTW!
I think the change in purpose the Buddhist mythos serves in this game is decisive by nature due to inherent bias present in the original text as a religious piece, and such is core to the allegory. However I don’t think BM:W is supposed to relay that allegory, I think it is supposed to branch off on its own as an alternate contemporary extension of the foundation JTTW set out (plus with the 2 DLC’s on the way, there is plenty of time to extend the universe in game to validate a shift in religious purpose compared to the cut 7 chapters planned during development). And such i think attributing it to the CCP can be a bit of a touchy statement (especially if one doesn’t have long standing ties to East Asian culture or Regional religious practice!) and can accidentally play into sinophobic phrasing and attitudes.
Buddhism as a practice and way of life has a very different presence in writers centuries ago compared to now, as well as how we use religion in audience-involved stories. And such I find it an interesting shift regarding a game made with an international and widely multi-religious audience (that isn’t consuming it as a psycho-socio poem compared to a much smaller and more culturally homogenous readerbase. I think the friction caused by thematic changes is more due to how the game relays the physical journey so closely with reusing characters and having to shift them according to the foundational changes- if it was closer to other written “sequels” that created characters connected to the original cast through descending from them etc, the changes wouldn’t grate on completed arcs or how we compare the experience to wukong’s parallel one
No, I do not have any direct personal cultural connection to Buddhism, Daoism, or Confucianism. I live in Asia, though, and beyond my research of JTTW, I do study religion here (with more of an emphasis on folk religion as it pertains to the Great Sage). My negative view of Black Myth: Wukong is colored by my deep love for the original story. In general, I don't like adaptations.
Thank you for your explanation of the game.

27 Asks! Thank you! :)) 🍰
Comments and interaction are the only way I'm afraid.. But your comment doesn't have to be some lengthy and clever compliment. Simple comments like "I love this! :D" "Looks great!" "ASJDKNF" and "Lovely drawing!" will work just fine. <:)
I promise I'm not gonna look down on those comments in anyway. If someone commented on 100 posts of mine with very simple and even copy and pasted responses, I wont be annoyed- if anything that will clearly show me that this person is trying to show their appreciation for my art will also respecting my boundaries. I'll appreciate it a lot is what I'm saying! XD
Even so, if its still too much pressure or you feel too awkward, I totally understand. You don't have to interact at all if you don't want to! I wont look down on you for that either. You can drop a simple like and leave it at that! :)
I am! :D Although I'm not fully in the loop- apparently there's been an update..? :0
@paper-starz
Ooo I love the drawing! :D In return I present to you!,
Whoppers! :DDDD
@muratandlina @misscherrypie @pink088
WAHGG THE BOOPS!!! THE BOOPS!!! XDDD
@ocinstituterep
When it comes to transformers? I would say its probably impossible to fully memorize their design line for line <:( at least it is for me!
All I can advise is to draw up a very extensive ref sheet for them, as I have done before. <:T
(Link in ask)
Ugh, this is getting exhausting.. thanks for telling me though.. <:)
@neo-metalscottic (Cake hound and Tuna post) (recent Gravity Falls art)
hello hello! :D I've been hanging in there, recent art thefts and tracings has been pretty disheartening.. but I've been doing my best to move past it <:)
Also thank you! :DD I'm glad to hear you liked my cake hound artwork! :)) As for names, I was gonna say that they don't have names and aren't canon yet.. but then two names came to mind <XDD
The name Chief seems pretty fitting for the old chocolate cake hound :0 And I imagined the name Bailey for a smaller vanilla cake hound that tuna might have in the future! :0 Think of a golden retriever :00
As for Gravity Falls, I will admit it was nice to draw Stanley again! And thank you kindly for all the compliments! :DD But man, does it just make me think of all the old embarrassing GF posts I made in the past.. 😅 I'm glad you liked it none the less! :))
And lastly, I'm not sure what kind of coffee Stan would like :0 but he strikes me as the type to say "I like my coffee BLACK like my SOUL" but then secretly fills it with 75% sugar and creamer XDD
@feline-controller
I've watched the original show in its entirety, they're absolutely hilarious and very witty XDD and their 1960s DeSoto adventurer was such a cool touch to the show! It's a shame the show didn't last longer.. 😔 Also Sam is my favorite of the two :))
I have! :0 They're outfits are always so wild <XD
@readeren
All of Gummigoo is squishy! XD
I have never heard of it <:0 sorry!
@minnesotamedic186
As I state in my pinned post,
Any and all dubbed videos of my artwork is theft as I will never give anyone permission to use my artwork in their videos 👍
@holly-opal
I did have a comic in mind where Wally wakes up from a nightmare and and its sends him into a panic attack. But he doesn't react the way you describe, quite the opposite actually :0
I pictured that he has a more silent panic. Where he shakes violently, his eyes are wide an he's sweating bullets. Unable to speak all the while. Even when he starts to cry he doesn't react to the tears, they just drip down his face silently.
He ended up thinking "Its okay, you're panicking. You're just panicking" but when that doesn't calm him down he thinks "Just call Barnaby. Talk to Barnaby and he'll calm you down, go call Barnaby."
He stumbles to the phone and while its ringing, he hears the floor creak behind him he whips around and knocks the phone off the table. The crash sends him over the edge and he drops the phone to run and hide. When Barnaby picked up his phone and no one replied.. he became really worried.
You cant accidentally butt dial someone on those old phones. Someone intentionally called him and then seemed to drop the phone.. knowing Wally has been acting off lately, he couldn't shake his worry and went out to check on Wally.
When he got to the door and knocked, he heard a vase shatter in Wally's house. Barnaby burst in and found Wally in a state.. The rest is what you can imagine. He comforts Wally and stays with him the whole night. They talk about his nightmare and the sleeping problems he's been battling.. things like that :0 Barnaby is goated :)
@octonauts16
The only brain rot word that doesn't drive me crazy and that I use unironically is "sus" XDD
@spottedsplash
Awe, thank you! That's very sweet <:)) I'm glad to hear you like what I've put up! :DD
IS THAT A MOOSHROOM COW WEARING IRON ARMOR??
@captain-skyler1987
I took me way too long to notice Goku on the left side XDD
Also yes I do! :D I'm getting better at recognizing a handful of my followers :}}
@beryl-shade
I watched Caseoh play it on YouTube :0 Although the parkour style game play was fun and refreshing!.. I wasn't particularly interested in the story as a whole 😅 I just saw it as yet another mascot horror.. <:/ FNAF holds my interest in that category <XD
@caronaro-flipaclip
His theatrical tone can be a liiitle annoying sometimes. And I cant not hear Finn the human when he talks <XD
But otherwise I like his character :) I feel kind'a bad for Gingerbrave sometimes- it kind'a feels like a lot is expected of him. Everyone is constantly asking him for help and he's always the one trying to defuse any given situation. Poor guy.. <:(
@fandomcenteralral
Reminds me of cult of the lamb! I love the critter 💞💞
@milmaxtor
ME WHEN PEOPLE SAY THEY LIKE WHEN I POST XDDDD
(Referencing this post)
Yes of course! :D People took the time out of their day to interact with me, the least I can do is respond to their questions properly! <:))
Also thank you! :DDDD
(Link in ask)
The song wasn't really my taste, but the artwork was great! :))
Welcome home got an update? :0 I had no idea! I guess that would explain the sudden influx of Poppy artwork.. 🤔
@shamelessboiledwater
XD I hope you remember sometime soon!
@minnesotamedic186
That I am! :) I've even drawn the gang before! Buster Moon is my favorite character :)

A/N: This is rather long, like almost 10k words. This will only be one part.
The Introduction - Monaco Grand Prix, 2023
Lewis lounged on the couch of his Monaco penthouse, feeling the weight of another grueling F1 season pressing down on him. The glamorous life of a world champion had its perks, but it could also be surprisingly mundane. Tonight was one of those nights – nothing to do, no events to attend, just the persistent hum of boredom and a touch of restless energy.
He picked up his phone, scrolling through social media with a lack of interest, idly liking a few posts here and there. As he navigated through his Instagram feed, his eyes were drawn to a series of suggestions on his For You page. One profile stood out among the rest: @ScarlettSiren.
The profile picture showed a captivating woman with striking features, her eyes glimmering with a mixture of allure and mischief. Curiosity piqued, Lewis tapped on the profile. The grid that appeared was a visual feast – a stunning array of provocative photos, each one more tantalizing than the last. He hesitated for a moment, remembering the countless times his friends had warned him to steer clear of OnlyFans models and pornstars.
"Man, you don’t need that kind of drama in your life," they’d say. "Stick to the models and escorts if you must, but stay away from those girls."
But something about @ScarlettSiren was different. There was an undeniable magnetism that pulled him in, a sense of raw, unfiltered sensuality that set her apart from anyone he’d encountered before. Against his better judgment, Lewis began to explore her profile more deeply.
He found himself captivated by her presence – the way she moved, the way she looked at the camera as if she were looking right through the screen and into his soul. Her bio mentioned that she was an OnlyFans creator, and Lewis felt a rush of excitement mixed with a hint of nervousness.
Without thinking too much about it, he clicked on the link to her OnlyFans. The page that loaded was an extension of the allure he’d felt on Instagram. Exclusive content, private messages, and the promise of a more intimate connection with the enigmatic Scarlett.
Lewis’s heart raced as he subscribed, a sense of anticipation buzzing through him. Almost immediately, he received a welcome message from her.
ScarlettSiren: "Hey there, handsome! Thanks for subscribing. Let me know if there’s anything special you’d like to see or chat about 😉"
His fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment before he started typing.
Lewis: "Hey Scarlett, just wanted to say I love your content. You’ve got an incredible presence. What are you up to tonight?"
He hit send and waited, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension. It didn’t take long for her to reply.
ScarlettSiren: "Thanks, babe! I’m just chilling at home, enjoying a glass of wine. How about you?"
Lewis smiled, feeling a strange sense of connection with this woman he’d never met.
Lewis: "Same here, just winding down after a long day. Can’t stop thinking about your posts though. You’re amazing."
ScarlettSiren: "You’re sweet 😊 Maybe we can have a little fun tonight? I love getting to know my subscribers better."
His pulse quickened at her words, the possibilities swirling in his mind. He knew this was uncharted territory, but he couldn’t deny the thrill of it all.
Lewis: "I’d like that. Tell me more about you."
And so, their conversation flowed, an intoxicating mix of flirtation and genuine connection. As the night went on, Lewis found himself opening up in ways he hadn’t expected, sharing stories, and listening to hers. There was an electric chemistry between them that was impossible to ignore.
By the time he finally put his phone down, the boredom and restlessness had been replaced by a sense of excitement and anticipation. He knew his friends would disapprove, but for once, he didn’t care. Scarlett was different, and he was more than willing to explore whatever this was, no matter where it might lead.
Text Threads - Singapore Grand Prix, 2023
The conversation between Lewis and Scarlett continued to flow effortlessly over the next few days. They talked about everything from their favorite movies to their childhood memories, gradually peeling back the layers of their lives. The chemistry between them was undeniable, and Lewis found himself looking forward to their chats more than he’d anticipated.
One evening, as he lay in his hotel room in Singapore, waiting for the start of the next race, his phone buzzed with a new message from Scarlett.
ScarlettSiren: "Hey, handsome! How’s Singapore treating you?"
Lewis grinned and quickly typed a response.
Lewis: "Hey Scarlett! It’s hot and humid as always, but I love it here. Just finished some practice laps. How about you? What’s new?"
ScarlettSiren: "Not much, just finished a photoshoot. Speaking of which, want to see some behind-the-scenes shots?"
Lewis: "Absolutely. Send them my way."
Moments later, his phone buzzed again with a series of photos. Scarlett looked stunning in each shot, her sultry poses and playful expressions igniting a fire within him. He sent her a few compliments, which she graciously accepted.
Lewis: "You look incredible, Scarlett. Seriously, these are amazing."
ScarlettSiren: "Thanks, babe 😊 I have more, but maybe I should save those for a video chat? What do you think?"
Lewis felt a surge of excitement at the prospect.
Lewis: "I’m game if you are. How about we video chat tonight?"
ScarlettSiren: "Perfect! Give me an hour to freshen up, and I’ll call you."
The anticipation built as Lewis waited, imagining what the call would be like. When his phone finally rang, he eagerly accepted the video call, his heart racing.
Scarlett’s face appeared on the screen, framed by soft, wavy hair. She looked even more beautiful in motion than in her photos, and her smile lit up the room.
"Hey, Lewis!" she greeted cheerfully, her voice warm and inviting.
"Hey, Scarlett. You look amazing," Lewis replied, unable to hide his admiration.
"Thanks! You’re not looking too bad yourself," she teased, making him chuckle.
They talked for a while about their day, the conversation flowing easily as usual. Eventually, Scarlett leaned closer to the camera, her expression turning a bit more serious.
"You know, I’ve really enjoyed getting to know you, Lewis," she said softly. "It’s not every day I meet someone I connect with like this."
"Same here," Lewis admitted. "You're easy to talk to."
Scarlett’s smile widened. "I’m glad to hear that. So, what’s it like being an F1 driver? Must be pretty intense."
Lewis nodded, launching into a story about his latest practice session and the challenges he faced on the track. Scarlett listened intently, her eyes never leaving the screen.
"You’re really passionate about what you do," she observed when he finished. "It’s inspiring."
"Thanks," Lewis said, feeling a warm flush of appreciation. "What about you? How did you get into modeling and OnlyFans?"
Scarlett’s eyes sparkled with mischief. "It’s a long story, but let’s just say I love expressing myself and connecting with people. Plus, it gives me the freedom to live life on my terms."
They continued talking, sharing stories and laughter. As the conversation grew more intimate, Scarlett leaned back, her gaze turning sultry.
"You know, Lewis, I’ve been thinking about you a lot," she confessed. "Especially when I’m alone…"
Lewis felt his pulse quicken. "Yeah? What kind of thoughts?"
Scarlett’s lips curved into a suggestive smile. "Why don’t I show you?"
She moved the camera to give Lewis a tantalizing glimpse of her outfit – a lacy piece that left little to the imagination. The sight made his breath hitch, and he quickly reciprocated, adjusting his camera to show his lean, toned physique.
The air between them crackled with electricity as they exchanged photos and compliments, the tension building to a fever pitch. Finally, Scarlett’s voice turned soft and inviting.
"Want to take this to the next level?" she asked, her eyes dark with desire.
Lewis nodded, unable to resist. "Absolutely."
Scarlett propped her phone on her vanity then sat at the foot of her bed.
"Hi," she purred, her voice husky with desire.
"Hey there," Lewis replied, his eyes devouring her full image.
For a few moments, they just looked at each other, taking in every detail. Then Scarlett moved closer to the camera, giving him a better view of her body.
"Do you like what you see?" she asked coyly.
Lewis could only nod and let out a low groan. Scarlett laughed, pleased with his response.
"Well then, let me give you a proper show," Scarlett said with a coy smile.
She started to move seductively to the music playing in the background. Her hands roamed over her body as she swayed and danced for him. Lewis couldn’t take his eyes off of her, feeling himself getting lost in the moment.
Scarlett’s movements were mesmerizing, her body fluid and graceful as she moved to the beat. The muscles of her glutes flexed impressively, her skin rippling like waves in an ocean. Lewis could feel his own desire building, his heart racing in anticipation.
As the song ended, Scarlett lay back on the bed and smiled suggestively at Lewis. "Your turn now," she said.
Feeling emboldened by her actions, Lewis stood up from his chair and started to slowly strip off his clothes while keeping eye contact with Scarlett. He could feel himself becoming more aroused with each piece of clothing he discarded.
When he was completely naked, he stepped back into view of the camera and for Scarlett to admire.
Lewis' body was sculpted, toned, and tattooed, every muscle rippling under his tanned skin. His broad shoulders and defined chest were on full display as he stood confidently in front of the camera.
"You look amazing," she breathed out appreciatively. “I know you probably get told this all the time but…Jesus Christ, you’re fine as fuck!”
Lewis chuckled at her comment as began to move his hands over his body, caressing his chest and stomach before slowly trailing down to his erection. Scarlett's mouth went dry as she watched him stroke himself, imagining it was her hand instead.
"Tell me what you want," Lewis breathed out, his voice strained with desire.
Scarlett licked her lips before answering, "I want you to touch yourself for me."
Without hesitation, Lewis followed her request and started to pleasure himself while Scarlett watched intently. Her own need was growing by the second and she couldn't resist joining in.
She leaned back on the bed, moving her phone closer so that he could see her as well. As she began to touch herself in rhythm with Lewis' movements, their moans filled the virtual room.
There was something thrilling about sharing this intimate moment with someone she had just met online. It added an element of danger and taboo that made everything more intense.
As they pleasured themselves together, their eyes locked onto each other through the screen. It was like they were making love without even physically being in the same room.
The tension continued to build until finally, they both reached their climax at the same time. Sweat glistened on their bodies as they lay there panting and smiling at each other.
They spent the next hour talking about their fantasies, their voices hushed and intimate as they shared their deepest desires. The connection between them felt almost tangible, and by the time they said their goodbyes, Lewis was left feeling more alive than he had in a long time.
"Talk soon?" Scarlett asked, her voice a seductive whisper.
"Definitely," Lewis replied, his heart racing.
As he ended the call and lay back on the bed, a satisfied smile played on his lips. He knew this was just the beginning of something intense and exhilarating – something he was more than ready to dive into.
NDA or No-Dick-Fil'-A - Brazilian Grand Prix, 2023
Lewis lay back on his hotel bed, phone in hand, staring at the blank screen. His mind raced, thoughts darting back and forth as he wrestled with his feelings. He had paid for sexual favors before, but this entire situation had him feeling out of his element. Scarlett was different. She was sexy, yes, but she was also smart, witty, and engaging. Their conversations and video calls had started to become the highlight of his days, and he found himself genuinely looking forward to their interactions.
Despite the sexual nature of their relationship, Lewis appreciated how straightforward everything was with Scarlett. There were no games, no hidden agendas, and no drama. His friends had joked about the potential for scandal, warning him about getting "Celina Powell'd," but he couldn't shake the feeling that this was worth the risk.
He decided to call Scarlett again, eager to hear her voice. After a few rings, she picked up, her face lighting up the screen.
"Hey, handsome," she greeted with a playful smile. "How was your day?"
"Hey, Scarlett. It was good, just busy with race prep. How about you?" Lewis asked, his eyes scanning her face.
"Same here. Just finished a little... demonstration with the new toy you sent me," she said, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
Lewis chuckled, feeling a familiar warmth spread through him. "You know how to make a guy's day, don't you?"
"I try my best," Scarlett replied with a wink.
They talked for a while about their days, their conversation flowing easily. Eventually, Lewis leaned back against the headboard, feeling a bit more serious.
"Scarlett, can I ask you something?" he began, his tone thoughtful.
"Of course. What's on your mind?" she replied, tilting her head slightly.
"Have you ever signed an NDA before?" Lewis asked, watching her closely.
Scarlett's expression shifted to one of understanding. "Yeah, I have. I had to sign one at my old job before I changed careers. Why do you ask?"
Lewis nodded, feeling a sense of relief. "I like your answer. I was thinking... I'd like to fly you out to Las Vegas for race weekend. Would you be interested?"
Scarlett's eyes widened with surprise and excitement. "Are you serious?"
"Absolutely," Lewis replied, his voice steady. "I want to meet you face to face. I think it could be really fun, and I promise to make it worth your while."
Scarlett bit her lower lip, clearly considering the offer. "I'd love that, Lewis. Really, I would. But you know this is just a casual thing for me, right? I mean, I'm not trying to get into anything too serious..."
"I know," Lewis said, his voice earnest. "I like you, Scarlett. I like talking to you, I like our time together, and I want to see you in person, but I need to be cautious, you understand that, right?"
Scarlett nodded, her eyes softening. "I understand, and I appreciate your honesty. I want this to be as straightforward as possible, too."
"Great," Lewis said, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. "I'll have my team send you the details. We'll arrange everything, including the NDA."
Scarlett smiled, her excitement palpable. "I can't wait, Lewis. It's going to be amazing."
Lewis grinned, feeling a surge of anticipation. "Yeah, it is. I'll see you soon, Scarlett."
As they ended the call, Lewis felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. He knew this was a step into uncharted territory, but he couldn't deny the pull he felt toward Scarlett. She was different from anyone he had ever been with, and he was ready to explore whatever this connection could become.
The Meeting (Amuse Buche) - Las Vegas Grand Prix, 2023
Scarlett adjusted herself in her seat on the private jet, still in disbelief at the turn her life had taken. Growing up in the northside of St. Louis, surviving off government assistance, she'd never imagined she'd be flying in such style. She'd started her OnlyFans page to regain confidence after a failed relationship and being laid off. What began as a way to boost her self-esteem quickly turned into a lucrative career. Now, she made more money from OnlyFans and endorsements than she ever had from her previous job, though that didn't mean her life was easy. Being a content creator required countless hours of planning, shooting, posting, and promoting her content.
There were good days and bad days. The bad ones included dealing with creepy guys who were borderline obsessed with her. But there were good days, like meeting Lewis. She knew she was getting a bit over her head meeting a client in person, but Lewis had complied with all her safety regulations and had her sign an NDA. Now, she was on her way from St. Louis to Las Vegas in a private jet he'd chartered for her, noting that seats on other airlines were booked due to race weekend.
Scarlett took a deep breath, marveling at her surroundings. She settled into the plush seat and began to worry about whether she'd packed the right clothes. When she arrived, a chauffeured car picked her up and drove her to the Wynn Hotel. Checking in and making her way to Lewis's suite, she received a text from him saying he would be there later on—he was having dinner with some drivers.
Using the facilities to wash off the flight from her body, Scarlett applied her favorite body butter and spritzed on some of her expensive perfume. She pulled on a purple teddy, knowing that purple was Lewis's favorite color. The color purple symbolized royalty, power, and ambition, all qualities that Lewis embodied and that Scarlett admired.
Scarlett spent some time looking at the breathtaking view of the city from the suite's window before she heard the door unlock. She quickly rushed to the bed, arranging herself sexily on it. She heard Lewis pad through the suite and into the bedroom, where he gave her a welcoming smile, exposing the set of grillz adorning his teeth.
"Aren't you a sight for sore eyes," he said, his voice warm and inviting. "Hi, gorgeous. Welcome to Las Vegas."
Scarlett was rendered speechless, feeling a mix of starstruck giddiness and excitement at finally being within mere inches of him. No longer just a face on a screen or a voice coming from her phone, Lewis was now real and present. He was devastatingly handsome, more so in person than she'd imagined.
Lewis outstretched his arms and said, "Can I get a hug?" beckoning her for an embrace.
Scarlett obliged, getting up and wrapping her arms around him. She inhaled the scent of his cologne, a blend of spices and wood that exuded manliness. His body was warm and solid against hers, making her feel safe and exhilarated all at once.
"I'm so glad you're here," Lewis murmured, pulling back slightly to look into her eyes. "I've been looking forward to this."
"Me too," Scarlett replied softly, feeling her heart race. "Thank you for bringing me out here."
"Thank you for coming," Lewis said with a smile, his eyes twinkling with genuine affection. "Let's make this a weekend to remember."
Lewis pulled Scarlett closer, his hands beginning to caress her body, enjoying the way she felt in his arms. She felt right, perfect, her curves melding seamlessly against the hard planes of his body. Their eyes connected, and Scarlett smiled at him, making him smile as well before he nuzzled his face into the crook of her neck. He kissed along the column of her neck, causing her to elicit a moan.
"I want to take my time with you. Is that okay, baby?" Lewis murmured against her skin.
Scarlett nodded her head, feeling a rush of anticipation.
"Can you use your words, love? I want to make sure you understand."
"Yes, Lewis," she breathed, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Good girl," he praised, nipping at her pulse point, making her yelp and then giggle.
"Tickle spot, huh?" he rambled against her skin as he nipped at her once more, then licked the spot. "I have to make note of that for later."
Scarlett's body responded to his touch, every nerve ending alive with sensation. She felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness, but the way Lewis was taking his time, ensuring her comfort, made her feel safe and cherished. His hands roamed gently but with intent, learning the contours of her body, the soft dips and curves that he found so enticing.
Lewis pulled back slightly, looking into her eyes with a tender yet intense gaze. "You’re so beautiful," he whispered, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. Scarlett's heart fluttered at his words, her cheeks flushing with warmth.
He kissed her, slowly, savoring the feel of her lips against his. Scarlett melted into him, her hands sliding up his back, fingers tangling in his hair. The kiss deepened, their breaths mingling, creating an intimate rhythm that left them both wanting more.
Lewis moved his kisses down her neck again, trailing them over her collarbone, taking his time to explore her skin. Scarlett's hands roamed over his shoulders, down his arms, feeling the strength and warmth of him. She moaned softly as he found another sensitive spot, his lips and tongue working magic against her skin.
"I could do this all night," Lewis whispered, his voice thick with desire. "I want to learn every part of you."
Scarlett's body trembled with anticipation, her breath hitching with every kiss and caress. "I want that too," she admitted, her voice filled with a mix of shyness and boldness.
Lewis gestured for Scarlett to get on the bed, and she complied, slipping backwards on the bed and crawling to the headboard. He followed behind her, kicking off his shoes as he did so. His whiskey-brown eyes shone with lust but also a hint of appreciation. He genuinely liked her, enjoyed the conversations and intimacy they had shared over the last few months. Now, with her here in Vegas, he intended to savor every moment. He didn’t want to rush and have sex on the first night. No, they had all weekend, and Lewis planned on giving her bit by bit of everything he had to offer, saving the finale for after Sunday's race.
Lewis's eyes roamed over her body, his gaze filled with admiration. He leaned down, starting at her ankles, planting soft kisses on her skin. Scarlett's breath hitched as his lips made contact, sending shivers up her spine. He continued his journey upward, kissing her calves, her knees, and then her thighs, taking his time to explore every inch of her.
Scarlett's moans spurred him on, the sound music to his ears. He could feel the way she responded to his touch, her body arching towards him, silently begging for more. As he kissed the soft skin of her stomach, Lewis felt a surge of desire, but he managed to maintain his self-restraint. It wasn't easy, especially with the way Scarlett writhed beneath him, her hands tangling in his hair, pulling him closer.
Lewis moved higher, kissing along her ribs, the underside of her breasts, and finally, the swell of her breasts. There was no skin left untouched by his lips. He paused to look up at her, seeing the pleasure and longing in her eyes. It was a sight that made his heart pound and his resolve weaken, but he held firm.
He hovered above her, staring in silent admiration until he opened his mouth to speak. "Take off the teddy," his voice was gruff, eyes half-lidded with need.
Scarlett slowly removed the straps from her shoulders before reaching behind her to unclasp the top, allowing the material to slip off and reveal her breasts. With his eyes still on her, Lewis bent down to take a nipple into his mouth.
A shiver of pleasure ran through Scarlett's body as his warm mouth enveloped her sensitive skin. She moaned softly, arching her back to press herself closer to him. Lewis's tongue swirled around her nipple, teasing and tasting, while his hand moved to cup her other breast, kneading gently.
Lewis looked up at her again, his eyes dark with desire. "You're so beautiful," he murmured against her skin before switching to her other breast, giving it the same attention and care.
Scarlett's fingers tangled in his hair, holding him close as he lavished her with his mouth and hands. The sensations coursing through her were almost too much to bear, and she found herself lost in the moment, completely at his mercy.
As Lewis continued to worship her body, his own arousal grew stronger, the evidence pressing against her thigh. He wanted her desperately, but he was determined to take his time, to savor every moment of their first night together.
"Do you know how long I've imagined this?" Lewis whispered, his breath hot against her skin. "How many times I've thought about touching you, tasting you?"
Scarlett's breath hitched at his words, her body responding with a fresh wave of desire. "I've thought about it too," she admitted, her voice trembling. "I've wanted this for so long."
Lewis groaned softly, his lips trailing kisses down her stomach. "I'm going to make you feel so good, baby," he promised, his voice filled with conviction. "I want to hear you moan my name."
Scarlett's heart raced with anticipation as Lewis continued his descent, his mouth and hands exploring every inch of her skin. She knew this night would be unforgettable, the beginning of something incredible between them.
As Lewis's kisses reached the edge of her panties, he paused, looking up at her with a question in his eyes. "Can I?" he asked, his voice husky with need.
"Yes, Lewis," Scarlett breathed, lifting her hips slightly to help him remove the last barrier between them.
With a reverent touch, Lewis slid her panties down her legs, discarding them to the side. He gazed at her for a moment, taking in the sight of her completely bare before him, and then leaned down to place a gentle kiss on her inner thigh.
"You're perfect," he whispered, his breath warm against her skin. "Absolutely perfect."
Scarlett's heart swelled at his words, her body aching with need. As Lewis's mouth moved closer to her core, she knew she was in for a night of unparalleled pleasure and intimacy, one that would leave her longing for more of him, always.
As he finally reached his destination, Scarlett's legs trembled in anticipation. She closed her eyes and gave in to the pleasure coursing through her body as Lewis's tongue flicked against her clit.
Her hands clenched the sheets beneath her as he expertly worked his way around her most sensitive area, teasing and exploring every inch of her. Scarlett felt herself getting lost in the sensation, unable to think about anything else but the overwhelming pleasure that consumed her.
Lewis's fingers joined in on the action, sliding into her slick folds and adding another layer of stimulation. Scarlett cried out as he found just the right spot inside of her, sending waves of pleasure throughout her entire body.
She could feel herself nearing the edge, and she desperately wanted to hang onto this feeling for just a little longer. But when Lewis sucked on her clit while simultaneously thrusting his fingers deeper inside of her, she couldn't hold back any longer.
Her entire body convulsed with a powerful orgasm that left stars dancing behind her closed eyelids. Lewis continued to work his magic even as she rode out the waves of pleasure, only pulling away when she was spent and completely satisfied.
He made his way back up to kiss Scarlett deeply. She could taste herself on his lips, and she couldn't help but moan at the reminder of the intense pleasure he had just given her.
"You taste so good, baby," Lewis whispered against her lips, his voice filled with awe and adoration. "I don't think I can ever have my fill."
"Well, you can have as much as you like this weekend," she told him as they parted.
"Say less."
Don't Play (Appetizer) - Las Vegas Grand Prix, 2023
Scarlett wandered through the bustling paddock, a mix of excitement and nerves swirling inside her. This was her first time experiencing a Formula 1 race weekend up close, and the atmosphere was electric. Everywhere she looked, there were teams fine-tuning their cars, engineers poring over data, and drivers zipping around on scooters.
Lewis had insisted on getting her a paddock pass, knowing how much she'd been looking forward to this. But they had to be cautious, keeping their distance to avoid attracting too much attention from the media. So, Scarlett explored on her own, taking in the sights and sounds of the paddock.
She watched as mechanics worked with precision, making last-minute adjustments to the cars. The smell of burnt rubber hung in the air, a constant reminder of the adrenaline-fueled action that was to come.
As she wandered further, Scarlett spotted familiar faces among the crowd. Drivers she had only ever seen on TV walked past her, their focus evident as they prepared for the upcoming practice session.
The Mercedes team was a flurry of activity, their focus unwavering as they prepared for the upcoming session. She paused to watch them work, fascinated by the seamless coordination and sheer intensity of their efforts.
Suddenly, a Mercedes team member approached her. "Excuse me, Miss Scarlett," he said with a polite nod. "Lewis wants to speak with you. Would you please follow me?"
Her heart skipped a beat as she nodded and followed the personnel through the maze of equipment and people. They arrived at a door marked "Driver's Room," and the team member gestured for her to enter.
She stepped inside to find Lewis waiting for her, shirtless, with the top half of his racing suit tied around his waist. His toned physique glistened slightly with perspiration, a testament to the physical demands of his sport. The room was a stark contrast to the chaos outside, a quiet sanctuary amidst the frenzy.
Lewis's face lit up when he saw her, and without a word, he pulled her into his arms. "How do you like the paddock so far?" he asked, his voice a warm murmur against her ear.
Scarlett smiled, looking up into his eyes. "I'm loving it. It's incredible to see everything up close."
He nodded gingerly, a small smile playing on his lips before he leaned in and kissed her. The kiss quickly deepened, becoming more urgent as their hands roamed each other's bodies. Lewis's touch was both gentle and possessive, and Scarlett melted against him, her fingers tracing the contours of his back.
The intensity of their makeout session escalated, their breaths becoming ragged and mingling in the charged air of the room. Lewis's hands kneaded her breast, and Scarlett felt a thrill of excitement coursing through her veins.
Their passionate moment was abruptly interrupted by a firm knock on the door. "Lewis, it's twenty minutes before free practice," a voice called from the other side.
Lewis groaned softly, resting his forehead against Scarlett's for a brief moment before pulling back. "Duty calls," he said with a wry smile, his eyes still dark with desire.
Scarlett straightened her clothes, her cheeks flushed. "I'll be cheering for you," she whispered, her voice a mix of affection and anticipation.
Lewis kissed her one last time, a quick yet intense meeting of their lips, before he reluctantly let her go. "And I'll be looking for you. Don't go too far," he replied, his gaze lingering on her as he turned to get ready for the session.
Scarlett slipped out of the room, her heart still pounding from their encounter. Feeling a playful spark, Scarlett decided to tease Lewis a bit. She found a quiet corner of the paddock and pulled out her phone. She scrolled through her gallery to find the pictures she had taken that morning in the hotel suite — intimate, suggestive shots highlighting her curves and playful expressions.
With a mischievous grin, she selected a couple of the best ones and sent them to Lewis with a quick message.
It didn't take long for her phone to buzz with a response. She glanced at the screen and saw a series of messages from Lewis. The first one read: Fuck....Scarlett. The next: Not making this fair.
Just as she was putting her phone away, she heard a distinct, sexually frustrated groan from within the confines of Lewis's driver's room. The sound was unmistakable even from outside, and it sent a thrill through her knowing she had such an effect on him.
Scarlett couldn't help but chuckle, feeling a mix of excitement and satisfaction. She made her way back to a spot where she could watch the practice session, her thoughts lingering on their next encounter. The anticipation was exhilarating, adding another layer of excitement to the already charged atmosphere of the race weekend.
As she settled in to watch, she couldn't help but admire Lewis's focus and determination on the track. He was in his element, every move precise, every decision calculated. Despite the intense pressure of the competition, she knew he was thinking of her, just as she was thinking of him.
The practice session unfolded with its usual blend of high-speed action and technical precision, but for Scarlett, it was infused with a personal touch that made it all the more thrilling.
After a leisurely dinner in the privacy of their hotel suite, Lewis and Scarlett, retreated to the luxurious free-standing tub. The warm water and fragrant bubbles provided a soothing contrast to the high-octane energy of the day. They settled into the bath together, their bodies comfortably intertwined as they enjoyed the moment of relaxation.
Bubbles floated on the surface of the water, clinging to their skin in delicate, foamy clusters. The scent of lavender and chamomile filled the air, adding to the calming atmosphere. Scarlett leaned back against Lewis, her head resting on his chest, feeling his breath's steady rise and fall. His arms were wrapped around her, their fingers occasionally interlacing beneath the water.
They talked about everything and nothing, their conversation flowing effortlessly. Lewis recapped the day's practice session, sharing his thoughts on the car's performance and his strategy for the upcoming qualifying round. Scarlett listened intently, her admiration for him growing with every word.
"You'll be much more comfortable in the Paddock Club tomorrow," Lewis said, brushing a wet strand of hair from her face. "It's a great spot to watch everything without getting caught up in the chaos."
Scarlett nodded, appreciating his consideration. "That sounds perfect. I can't wait to see you in action again."
As they continued to talk, their conversation took a more intimate turn. They shared stories about their lives, delving into personal details that brought them even closer. It was during this moment that Scarlett decided to reveal something she had kept to herself until now.
"My real name is Zakyna," she said softly, watching Lewis's reaction.
He looked at her, his dark eyes thoughtful and intrigued. "Zakyna," he repeated, his voice low and attractive, the timbre sending shivers down her spine. "I like that name. It fits you."
A smile spread across her face. "Thank you. My friends and family call me Kai."
Lewis's expression softened, a tender look in his eyes. "Kai," he said, testing the name on his lips. "I like that. So, should I call you Zakyna, Scarlett, or Kai?"
She leaned in, her forehead resting against his. "Kai," she whispered. "I want you to call me Kai."
"Alright, Kai," he murmured, kissing her gently.
Kai looked at him with a smile. "I like the way you say it," she replied, her eyes shining with warmth.
Eventually, the water began to cool, and they reluctantly decided it was time to get out. They stood, the water cascading off their bodies, leaving trails of bubbles that clung to their skin. Kai admired the way the droplets highlighted Lewis's toned physique, each bead of water tracing the lines of his muscles.
Lewis wrapped a fluffy towel around her, his hands lingering as he dried her off, his touch both practical and tender. She returned the favor, running the towel over his broad shoulders and down his back, savoring the intimacy of the moment.
They settled under the covers on the bed, Lewis pulled Kai close, his arm wrapped around her protectively.
"Goodnight, Kai," he whispered, his voice filled with affection.
"Goodnight, Lewis," she replied, snuggling closer to him.
As they drifted off to sleep, the anticipation of the race weekend mingled with the warmth of their connection, making this night one to remember.
Lemme Cheer You Up (Entrée) - Las Vegas Grand Prix, 2023
Race night in Las Vegas was electric, the city’s neon lights casting a surreal glow over the circuit. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation, but inside Lewis’s hotel suite, the mood was tense. P11 was not where he wanted to be, and the disappointment hung heavy in the air.
Kai had been a comforting presence over the last few days, their playful teasing and tender touches helping to keep Lewis grounded amidst the pressure of the race weekend. But tonight, he needed more than gentle reassurances; he needed a way to channel his frustration and find the optimism to face the challenge ahead.
They had about two hours before Lewis needed to head to the track, and Kai was determined to help him reset. She found him standing by the window, staring out at the glowing cityscape, his shoulders tense.
"Hey," she said softly, coming up behind him and wrapping her arms around his waist. "Talk to me."
He sighed, leaning back into her embrace. "I just… P11, Kai. It’s not where I should be. I feel like I’ve let everyone down."
She turned him around to face her, placing her hands on his chest. "You’re a champion, Lewis. One bad qualifying session doesn’t change that. You’ve come back from worse, and you can do it again."
He looked down at her, his expression softening as he cupped her face in his hands. "How do you always know what to say?"
She smiled, pressing a kiss to his palm. "It’s because I believe in you. Now, let’s do something about this stress, okay?"
Kai led him to the bedroom, the air between them thick with anticipation. They had been building up to this moment for days, their touches and kisses growing more intense with each passing hour. Now, it was time to let go completely.
Lewis’s hands were on her the moment they reached the bed, his kisses urgent and demanding. Kai responded with equal fervor, her fingers tangling in his hair as she pulled him closer. The frustrations of the day melted away as their bodies came together, the connection between them a perfect antidote to his anxiety.
Kai took her time, teasing him with light touches and lingering kisses, drawing out his pleasure and making him forget everything but the sensation of her skin against his. Lewis’s hands roamed her body with a desperate need, the tension in his muscles gradually easing with every touch.
"Let me take care of you," she whispered, guiding him to lie back on the bed. She straddled him, her movements slow and deliberate as she set the pace, their eyes locked in a heated gaze. She could see the stress melting from his expression, replaced by pure, unadulterated desire. With practiced ease, she removed his clothing, her fingers trailing down his body, igniting every nerve in its wake. She lingered at his happy trail, her touch sending shivers down his spine. Her hands slipped inside his boxers, freeing his erect penis from its confines. It throbbed with anticipation, a single bead of pre-ejaculation glistening at the tip.
She leaned down to capture the droplet with her tongue, eliciting a deep moan from him. She continued to tease him, using her tongue to explore every inch of his length before taking him fully into her mouth.
As she took him deeper into her mouth, he let out a guttural groan, his fingers tangling in her hair. She continued to suck and swirl her tongue around him, building the intensity with every movement. She could feel his hips starting to buck against her, wanting more but also trying to hold back.
She released him from her mouth with a pop, leaving him gasping for air. "You like that?" she purred, running her hand up and down his length.
He nodded eagerly, unable to form words as pleasure coursed through his body. He couldn't help but let out a loud moan as she began to move up and down on him, using her hands to stroke whatever parts of him she couldn't fit into her mouth. Her teeth grazed gently against his skin, sending jolts of pleasure throughout his body.
He gripped the sheets tightly as she worked her magic on him, completely lost in the sensations she was creating. He could feel himself getting closer and closer to the edge with each passing second.
She could feel his body tensing beneath her as she continued to pleasure him. She knew he was close, but she wasn't ready to let him release just yet.
With a wicked grin, she stopped her movements and climbed off of him, leaving him panting and confused. But before he could protest, she straddled his face, positioning herself so that his tongue could reach her most sensitive spot.
He eagerly began to lick and suck on her, one hand gripping her hips tightly whilst the other stroked his erection, trying to push them both closer to the edge. She moaned loudly, grinding against his face as she rode out the pleasure.
Her body trembled as she reached her climax, crying out his name as waves of pleasure washed over her. His orgasm soon followed, coming out in long spurts into his hand yet he continued to please her with his mouth until she couldn't take it anymore, collapsing onto the bed beside him.
They lay there for a moment, both panting and trying to catch their breath. Kai’s presence, her unwavering belief in him, had worked its magic. He felt recharged, his mind clearer and more focused on the task ahead.
"Thank you," he murmured, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I needed that more than I realized."
Kai smiled, running her fingers through his hair. "Anytime, champ. Now go out there and show them what you’re made of."
Lewis nodded, a renewed determination in his eyes. He got up, beginning to get ready for the race, while Kai watched with a proud smile. They might have started the evening with doubt and tension, but now, thanks to their shared moment of intimacy, he was ready to face whatever the night would bring.
As he prepared to leave, Lewis pulled Kai into one last embrace. "I’ll be looking for you in the Paddock Club," he said, his voice filled with warmth.
"I’ll be there, cheering you on," she promised.
With a final kiss, he was out the door, heading towards the challenge ahead.
Need You (Dessert) - Las Vegas Grand Prix, 2023
Kai entered the Paddock Club, feeling rejuvenated and utterly content after her intimate rendezvous with Lewis. The luxurious space was abuzz with excitement, a stark contrast to the private world she and Lewis had shared just hours earlier. Here, everything was designed to cater to the elite, offering an unmatched view of the race and an array of top-notch services.
The Paddock Club was a stunning blend of sophistication and comfort. Large windows overlooked the pit lane, providing a perfect vantage point to watch the teams in action. The interior was sleek and modern, with plush seating areas, elegant decor, and multiple screens broadcasting live race footage. The air was filled with the hum of excited conversation, the clinking of champagne glasses, and the subtle undertones of anticipation.
Kai took full advantage of the amenities available. She started by freshening up in the exclusive spa-like restrooms, where attendants offered her luxurious hand towels and a selection of high-end toiletries. Feeling refreshed, she made her way to the gourmet buffet, where an array of international delicacies awaited. She selected a plate of sushi, some freshly sliced fruit, and a flute of champagne, savoring the exquisite flavors.
As she found a comfortable seat near the window, Kai allowed herself to soak in the ambiance. The Paddock Club was a world unto itself, filled with VIPs, celebrities, and corporate guests, all here to experience the thrill of Formula 1 in style. She spotted a few familiar faces from the entertainment industry and noted the presence of high-ranking executives from major sponsors, their conversations a blend of business and pleasure.
Despite the glamorous surroundings, Kai’s mind kept drifting back to Lewis. He had been an incredible lover, attentive and passionate, leaving her on cloud nine. But she reminded herself that he was just a client. She had a job to do, and professionalism was key. Yet, the connection they had shared was undeniable, and she couldn’t help but feel a flicker of excitement at the thought of seeing him again after the race.
Kai refocused on the task at hand, mingling with other guests and making sure to be seen by the right people. She networked effortlessly, her charm and poise winning over those she spoke with.
The race was about to start, and the atmosphere in the Paddock Club grew even more charged. Kai settled into her seat, her eyes fixed on the track below. She watched as the cars lined up, engines revving, the anticipation building to a fever pitch. When the lights went out and the race began, the roar of the engines was deafening, a visceral reminder of the power and speed on display.
Kai found herself caught up in the excitement, cheering Lewis on with every lap. She marveled at his skill and precision, each maneuver a testament to his prowess as a driver. Despite his starting position, he drove with determination and tenacity, making up places with each passing lap.
Throughout the race, she remained engaged, taking occasional sips of champagne and sharing animated conversations with fellow guests. But her focus always returned to the track, her thoughts never straying far from Lewis. She admired his resilience, knowing the pressure he was under and feeling a swell of pride for how he handled it.
As the race progressed, Kai's initial contentment from their earlier encounter transformed into a deep sense of admiration for Lewis. He was more than just a client; he was a remarkable individual who faced challenges head-on. She realized that, while her role required a semblance of professionalism, she couldn't deny the personal connection they had formed.
The final laps were intense, the tension palpable as the cars pushed to their limits. When Lewis crossed the finish line, she leaped to her feet, cheering and applauding his performance. Regardless of the outcome, she knew he had given everything he had, and that was something truly special.
The race had ended with Lewis securing a solid P7 finish, earning valuable points for his team. Despite the initial disappointment of his qualifying position, he had driven a determined race, overtaking multiple cars and demonstrating his exceptional skill and tenacity. After the checkered flag, he went through the usual routine of post-race interviews, answering questions about his performance and the team's strategy.
But throughout it all, his thoughts were consumed by Kai. The memory of their passionate encounter earlier in the evening fueled his desire, and he could hardly wait to be with her again. As soon as he was done with his media obligations, he hurried back to the garage, stripping off his racing suit with practiced efficiency.
Lewis quickly hit the showers, the hot water washing away the grime and sweat of the race. He scrubbed himself clean, but his mind was already racing ahead to the hotel suite where he knew Kai would be waiting for him. The anticipation built with every passing second, and he found himself moving faster, eager to get back to her.
When he finally arrived at the suite, his heart skipped a beat at the sight that greeted him. Kai was waiting for him on the bed, her expression a mix of desire and affection. The soft lighting cast a warm glow over her, highlighting the curves of her body and the inviting look in her eyes.
Lewis didn't waste a moment. He shed his clothes quickly, his movements urgent and deliberate. As he approached the bed, Kai's eyes followed him, her breath quickening with anticipation. He positioned himself between her legs, his body pressing against hers as he leaned down to capture her lips in a fierce, hungry kiss.
Their earlier tenderness was replaced by an intense, raw passion. Lewis's hands roamed her body, his touch both possessive and reverent. He kissed her deeply, tasting the sweetness of her lips and savoring every moment. Kai responded with equal fervor, her fingers digging into his back as she pulled him closer.
Lewis trailed kisses down her neck, his lips leaving a burning path along her skin. He nipped at her collarbone, eliciting a soft moan from Kai that only fueled his desire further. His hands caressed her curves, memorizing the feel of her beneath him.
"Kai," he murmured against her skin, his voice husky with need. "I’ve been thinking about you all night. I need you."
"I’m here," she whispered back, her voice breathless. "I’m yours."
His smile was wide and mischievous, baring all his teeth. It was a look filled with confidence and a hint of challenge, making Kai's pulse quicken. She met his gaze, her own excitement mirrored in his eyes.
"Are you ready?" he asked, his voice low and slightly roughened with anticipation.
Kai nodded, her breath catching in her throat. "Yes, I am."
"Turn around," he commanded softly, and Kai complied, feeling a shiver of excitement run down her spine. He helped position her on the bed, her hands resting on the mattress. She then felt him bound her ankles with something - a scarf perhaps? He tied her securely but still loose enough to ensure her comfort. The sensation of being bound, coupled with the trust she had in Lewis, sent a thrilling rush through her body.
Lewis's hands were on her then, firmer and more demanding than before. He ran his fingers along her spine, the touch both possessive and tender. "Do you trust me?" he asked, his voice a deep rumble.
"Yes," she breathed, her voice barely above a whisper.
He smiled again, that wide, confident grin that made her heart race. "Good."
His touch became rougher, his fingers digging into her hips as he pulled her back against him. The slight edge of dominance in his actions sent waves of arousal through her, and she moaned softly, her body responding eagerly to his commands.
Lewis slapped her lightly on the ass, a sharp but thrilling sensation that made her gasp. "You like that?" he asked, his voice rough with desire.
"Yes," she replied, her voice trembling with excitement.
He leaned in close, his breath hot against her ear. "Good girl," he whispered, his words sending shivers down her spine.
Kai's back arched as Lewis entered her from behind, his strong hands gripping her hips tightly. She couldn't help but moan at the feeling of fullness and the roughness of his touch.
Her thoughts were consumed by Lewis, their bodies moving together in perfect harmony. He knew exactly how to please her, how to drive her wild with desire.
"Harder," she gasped, gripping onto the sheets for leverage.
Lewis obliged, increasing the force behind his movements as he penetrated her. The intensity of his actions became more urgent and primal, driving Kai closer to release with every thrust. He planted his foot on the bed to steady himself as he pulled her arms back, trapping her between him and the mattress. With her ankles and arms restrained, Kai had no choice but to endure the full impact of his thrusts.
"Please," she moaned, the word escaping her lips before she could stop it.
Lewis's eyes darkened with desire as he heard the desperation in her voice. He shifted his angle slightly, hitting a spot inside of her that made Kai's eyes roll back in pleasure.
"Yes," she cried out, her body trembling with each thrust.
"Come for me," Lewis growled, his voice rough and commanding.
And she did. Kai's entire body shook as she reached her climax, waves of intense pleasure washing over her. Lewis followed soon after, groaning her name as he spilled himself inside of her.
They collapsed onto the bed together, both panting heavily and covered in sweat. Lewis untied Kai's ankles before pulling her into his arms, holding her close as they both caught their breath.
"That was..." Kai trailed off, still trying to find words to describe what had just happened between them.
"Incredible," Lewis finished for her with a smirk. "But we're not done yet."
Kai looked at him in surprise, but before she could say anything else, Lewis rolled them over so that she was on top.
"You didn’t think I would let you go without another round, did you?" he said with a mischievous glint in his eye.
For the rest of the night and well into the morning hours, they continued to explore each other’s bodies and push each other to new heights of pleasure.
Are You Free? - Winter Break, 2023
A month had passed since that unforgettable weekend in Las Vegas, and Kai couldn't shake the thoughts of Lewis from her mind. She had thrown herself back into her OnlyFans content, keeping herself busy and entertaining her fans. But despite the flurry of activity, there was an emptiness she couldn't ignore. She missed him — their connection, the intensity, the way he made her feel truly seen.
Lewis had spoiled her lavishly, making sure she was well compensated for her time. But it wasn’t the money she found herself longing for. It was the man behind the generosity, the spark they had shared. She hadn’t accepted any offers to fly out to other clients since then, her heart not quite in it.
One evening, as she was scrolling through her phone, a WhatsApp notification popped up. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the name: Lew Lew.
"Hey Kai, I’m sorry I haven’t reached out since Vegas. Things have been crazy with the rest of the season. Do you have your passport?"
Her fingers trembled as she typed back a quick response. "Yes, I have my passport."
His reply was almost immediate. "Great. Ever been to Brazil?"
Excitement surged through her as she read the message. "No, I haven’t," she replied, wondering what he was planning.
"Pack your bags, gorgeous. I’m sending a ticket. See you in São Paulo."
The journey to Brazil felt surreal. Kai was picked up by a chauffeur at the airport, the luxury of the arrangement making her feel like she was in a dream. The car wound its way through the bustling streets of São Paulo until it pulled up outside a stunning villa. Lewis was waiting for her, looking as effortlessly charismatic as ever.
As she stepped out of the car, he approached her with that familiar, warm smile. "Hey, baby," he said, pulling her into a tight hug. The warmth of his embrace and the scent of his cologne brought back a flood of memories, and she felt her heart swell with happiness.
"Hey, Lewis," she replied, her voice soft with emotion.
He took her hand and led her inside the villa. The interior was breathtaking, a perfect blend of modern elegance and comfort. As they walked through the spacious living room, she noticed a group of people lounging on the couches, chatting and laughing.
"Everyone, this is Kai," Lewis announced, his voice carrying an easy confidence. "She’ll be joining us on the trip."
The group looked up, welcoming her with warm smiles and friendly greetings. Lewis introduced them one by one. "This is Spinz, Louis, and Jas. Guys, this is Kai."
As the night wore on, Lewis took her aside, leading her to a quiet corner of the villa’s lush garden. "I’m really happy you came, Kai. I’ve missed you," he admitted, his voice sincere.
"I’ve missed you too, Lewis," she replied, looking up at him. "I’ve thought about you every day since Vegas."
He leaned in, his forehead resting against hers. "Me too. I want you to know that you’re not just some random girl to me. You’re special."
Her heart raced at his words, a mixture of hope and longing swelling within her. "You’re special to me too, Lewis."
He kissed her then, a tender and lingering kiss that spoke of all the things they had left unsaid. It was a promise of more to come, a reassurance that this connection they shared was real and worth exploring.
As they pulled back, he smiled at her, that same wide, mischievous smile that had first captured her heart. "Welcome to Brazil, Kai. Let’s make this trip unforgettable."
And with that, they rejoined the others, ready to embark on a new adventure together, their bond stronger than ever.

I. WALK YOU HOME | II. DIVE INTO YOU | III. DRIVE | IV. MAKE IT WITH YOU
Mark Lee having a bad day was a rare commodity. The athlete was seldom seen with his brown eyes aimed to the floor and a frown stitched onto his face. No, he was usually spotted with a bright sparkle in his irises, a grin that was way too wide for his small and handsome face, his hockey gear tucked in under his arm, and most importantly, you.
Maybe that was the stark difference between Mark’s drastic moods. You weren’t present at the home game that just finished. On top of it being midterms week, an ultimate stressor on its own, you skipped out on today’s game in favor of finishing a midterm project with a partner that may or may not have been putting some moves on you. Hearing that news after basically bombing his Biology exam that was worth twenty perfect of his grade just added onto his sullen behavior. Instead of focusing on the game, Mark’s mind was void of the strategized plays and off the ice, floating all the way down to the campus library–where you were.
Mark really shouldn’t be upset. He should’ve been proud that you put your grades first instead of a game. After all, you weren’t a student athlete; this game shouldn’t mean a thing to you. But it was his game. You were his lucky charm. You always have been and you always will be.
Sure, others showed up to the games with his number painted onto their cheeks in their university colors and poster boards that displayed his name but they weren’t you. You weren’t the one in the crowd with the pretty, mismatched ribbons in their hair or screaming his name as he scored a goal. You weren’t there, drowning in his away game jersey like you usually were. You were drowning in school work with a guy that would not leave you alone.
“It’s fine,” you said. “I just have to stick it out until the end of the week and it’ll be okay. I notified my professor and we’re meeting up in their office so I’m not left alone with the guy.”
“Yeah but–”
“Go and score a goal for me,” you hushed Mark, pressing a manicured finger to his lips when he tried to push back. “Promise?”
Mark’s frown grew. “But–”
“Ah,” you replied, adding more pressure to his lips. Raising your free hand, you brought your pinky towards him. “Promise?”
Mark sighed in defeat, linking his pinky with yours. He shook your intertwined hands. “Promise.”
Knowing you won, you grinned. “That’s my Marky. Now, go! I’ll see you tomorrow! You’ll be fine without me.”
But he wasn’t.
And it’s sad how reliant on you Mark became. Before you, he could fully function on his own. Now? Mark was seen with you more often than not. You were like an extension of him, something he couldn’t live without. His teammates and friends noticed it; Haechan wouldn’t let Mark go a day without teasing him on the ice. Johnny, who wasn’t on the team, often made a lot of noise during games to let Mark know exactly where the two of you sat. And Jaehyun, bless his soul, always explained the technicalities of the sport so you understood each and every play-by-play in order to cheer Mark on.
He wasn’t fine before, during, or after the game and all he could think about was you. Nothing else mattered but you.
To top off this horrible day, they lost the game. There were definitely other factors that contributed to the loss but the most defining one was that Mark’s head wasn’t in it. He tried taking your mind off of you but quickly deemed it impossible. Even after he showered, lugged his sorry ass out of the hockey arena and into his car, his mind was still glued to the thought of you. Driving aimlessly around campus didn’t help and before he knew it, Mark’s hands fiddled with his dashboard screen until your number was dialed.
Two rings later and he heard your voice. “Hey,” you greeted, voice booming from the speakers. Your voice was soft unlike the other times you answered the phone–a lot gentler, like he needed to be approached with caution.
“Hi,” Mark mustered out before going silent again. All the two of you could hear were the sounds on the road.
“What’s going on?” you asked with that same soothing voice.
You knew what happened. You weren’t there to witness the losing game but word travels fast. Johnny and Jaehyun called you shortly after the game, relaying an abbreviated version of the game while escaping the disappointed crowd. They made it known that Mark was off his game the entire time. Your friends made a light joke, saying it was because you weren’t there, and pointing out how he seemed different whenever you were in attendance. You brushed off their teasing but assured them you would check on your best friend.
But despite knowing, you wanted the news to come from Mark. If he didn’t want to talk about it, that was okay with you too. You could practically hear him shrugging as he replied, “Dunno, I just wanted to see you.”
Noticing that Mark was so close to shutting down completely, you answered, “Well, I’m always down to see you. Care for a drive, Marky?”
He caught the sound of rustling from your ride and figured you were rushing to get ready before he arrived. The arena was a mere seven minute drive from your housing complex, not giving you much time to get yourself together at all. Prior to him calling, you were most likely nestled up under your comforter, adorning your favorite pair of sweats and oversized hoodie to keep you warm. Mark wanted to say that you didn’t have to change, but knowing his best friend, you’d probably ignore whatever he said.
“Yeah, that’s exactly what I need.”
“I’ll see you in a few then,” you said with finality before hanging up the phone.
A few minutes later, Mark pulled up to your complex, only to find you already downstairs. You didn’t come empty handed, the drink tumbler he always used when he was over at your place in one hand and your tumbler in the other. He reached over the console to open the passenger door for you and you immediately slid in, handing him his cup.
“Hey you,” you smiled at him before pressing a short kiss to his cheek. Whereas he caught you off guard the last time you went to the beach, his soft lips grazing against your cheek, it was your turn to surprise him. The action shocked him so much, he almost dropped the steaming drink in hand.
“H-hey,” Mark stuttered a bit pathetically, swiftly turning his attention to his tumbler. Bringing it up to his lips, he tasted his favorite comfort drink–hot cocoa with whip cream and marshmallows. The temperature was a bit too hot, the liquid burning his tongue after having a lick of melted whip cream, but he didn’t dare complain. He took another sip of it before putting it down and shifting the gear to drive.
The drive itself wasn’t necessary to Mark, he already felt a bit better in your presence as you buckled your seatbelt.
It’s you—you’re what he needed. You’re what he wanted. And you’re the one person that would always bring a smile to his face. It didn’t feel right to admit it to you now, not when he was just sulking in all of his sorrows. Maybe another time or place. But for now, Mark was content with you in his passenger seat and his hands on the wheel, ready to go anywhere as long as you were at his side.

Mine, all mine.
a lucifer x reader fanfiction.
inspired by this ask: link
wc: 1728
warning: suggestive themes!!
a/n: sometimes i wish i could just give the program my brain and let it write itself. my ass is not suited for writing at extensive periods of time in one sitting.
You were a sinner, made to rot in hell for all of eternity until exorcist end your miserable souls. However, you refused to lead that fate. You disliked how other demons would underestimate you just because of how weak and fragile you looked, especially with your wings. So, you improvised, you took this to your advantage, eventually one-by-one overlords toppled over from your powers, becoming your servants or souls you feasted on. You never sought to purge sinners or become an overlord in the process for that matter, it was just that you heavily disliked being underestimated by these narcissistic souls, that you couldn’t help but put them in their place.
After decades of doing the same thing over and over again, you decided you wanted something different to do, other than manipulating and devouring retched souls all the time. With Alastor’s recommendation, you find yourself in Hell’s Hazbin Hotel, a hotel that aims to rehabilitate sinners and help them go to heaven. You didn’t oppose to the idea and if there would be sinners that find this their calling, then you’d like to support them in their endeavors, unlike your pal Alastor. Besides, it would be a free meal if some jackass just wanted to stir up some trouble with both of you around.
So, that’s what you led you here to this moment.
“—and this is (y/n), our other host, they’ve been helping with the hotel just a few months ago, despite being a busy overlord and all,” Charlie introduces you to each other.
“It’s a pleasure to meet the King of Hell himself. How do you do, my lord?” you greet with a polite smile after dipping your head in acknowledgement.
However, everything flew past Lucifer’s head when he saw your figure. You had a pleasant aura with an angelic face paired with bright beautiful wings that had him thrown in a loop. You had a kind and gentle gaze, lips a luscious shade of pink and cheeks full of life. You were simply ethereal—you didn’t look like you were from hell. You perfectly fit the standard for heaven’s angels and their winners.
“Uhh, dad?”
“Yeah, huh?!” Lucifer startles awake from his daydreaming and pays attention to his daughter. Finally realizing he was on a balcony with Charlie and Vaggie, a long way from where he was lost in thought.
“So, what do you think?” Charlie asks expectantly holding her hands together.
“Uh, yeah yeah. They look great. Say, who was that little friend you had there down there, are they also an angel?” he asks straightforwardly with a finnicky undertone.
“What? (Y/n)? No, they’re an overlord here in hell and our host. Didn’t I already say that?” Charlie replied starting to get annoyed with her dad.
“Oh, I see. They were just very beautiful looking, especially with those wings. I almost certainly thought they were an angel,” he rambles.
Vaggie and Charlie look at Lucifer stunned as Charlie starts, “What? Are you--? No, wait, dad we’re getting sidetracked. I meant the hotel! What do you think of it?!”
Then Lucifer goes on a tangent on how sinners could never be redeemed, and that they were vicious people who misused the gift that he gave them leading them here in hell. Before Charlie could fully give on getting her cause across to her father, a crash interrupts them.
They teleport downstairs and see a bunch of loan sharks barging their way into the hotel.
“Everyone! Get somewhere safe! I’ll handle this,” Vaggie yells readying her spear.
“No, my dear, leave it to me. It's time I remind everyone why I am here,” Alastor announces transforming into his demon form.
You chuckle unfurling your wings flying close to him, “Don’t forget about me.”
Lucifer ultimately shuts his mouth as he watches you dive headfirst towards one of the sharks stretching your hand out to grab their faces. You slam him roughly on the ground as his strength drains from his body. The longer you placed your hand on him the more his body crumples and dries, slowly wilting away from your touch. Leaving behind a red pulsing orb, you unhinge your jaw wrapping your tongue around it before swallowing it whole.
Lucifer’s stomach drops to his feet from the realization of his misconception of you, but he undoubtedly receives a hard-on as he can’t help but sexualize your actions. Wondering how it would feel wrapped around your long tongue and enveloped by your lips as you swallowed all of him.
He smacks himself across the face to rid himself of his thoughts and fixes his eyes on you and Alastor finishing up your massacre and dusting yourselves off. As he sees you both banter playfully, he couldn’t help but be reminded of his irritation for the male and comment towards Charlie.
“Mhm, you see? What'd I tell you? Charlie, sinners are violent psychopaths, hell bent on causing as much pain and destruction as they can. There's really no point in trying.”
She angrily huffs and yells at him, “Dad! Stop! He's defending this hotel! It may be a bit more sadistic than I'd hoped, but he's doing it for me! How come he can have faith in me, but my own father can't?”
His face crumples as he realizes his mistake. Here was his daughter trying to realize her dreams but couldn’t even support her ideas and aspirations. He was no better than those elders that shunned him away for his dreams. He finally comes clean to Charlie and apologizes to her. Finally supporting her dream and agreed on setting up the meeting for her.
But before he teleports away, he glances at you which you only responded with a light smile and nodded your head at him appreciating his help. He couldn’t help but be expectant of the next time you’ll meet again. He wished that Charlie would give him a call again soon.
The next time you met was when the angels attacked the residents of the hotel. When the matter was settled, all of you—including the help you gathered from Cannibal Town, celebrated your win in the now more spacious hotel.
While the lot of them gathered sharing drinks on one side, he saw you by yourself on the other side. He stands next to you with a grin, tapping your shoulder and asks, “This seat taken?”
You get startled from his action unfamiliar with people touching you so casually and give a flustered answer, “N-no! Please have a seat.”
He chuckles as he sits next to you, noticing how you scooted a little further away from him. He feels saddened when he was trying to be close to you, but you pull yourself away from him. He couldn’t help but comment, “You don’t need to be so distant. I’m just trying to get to know you better.”
You give him a smile and wrap your hands around your drink before answering, “Sorry. I’m just not used to people trying to come close to me at this distance, with my powers and all.”
He tilts his head cutely making you giggle and continue, “I guess Charlie didn’t tell you. I have the powers to drain demon’s powers. The longer I touch ‘em they die, and their soul becomes mine.”
He lets out a sound of understanding and mutters, “So that’s what that was.”
You look at him with you chin on your hand on the counter looking at him in interest. “Have you been watching me, your majesty?” you couldn’t help but tease.
You were not disappointed as you watch his face turn red as he fumbled with his drink while he tries to reply, “W-well, I couldn’t help but admire how strong you were. Either in a fight or just casually talking to you, you just seem to be so confident that I can’t help but keep my eyes on you.”
“You’re beautiful,” he finishes with a dreamy sigh.
“Are you hitting on me?” you ask complemented with a seductive smile.
His breath hitches as he realizes what he did, as he panics trying to save himself, “I mean! Please don’t take this the wrong way! I was just admiring— whoops!”
He accidentally drops his drink in his flustered state, with both of your fast reflexes you caught the glass together. His hand covering yours, he tilts his head not noticing anything different with himself as he holds you.
Meanwhile, you hastily place the cup down on the counter and fretted over him, “Are you alright? Are you unwell anywhere?”
“No, I’m fine. I don’t feel much different actually,” he says looking at his hands.
You sigh in relief not expecting this man to throw you off your loop. You’re so composed all the time that having this man in your proximity just destroys your braincells with how cute and charming he was.
“Actually, can we do that again?” he asks with a serious look, to which you hesitantly accepted locking your hands together for a while. As time passes on without much progress to his experiment, the more your cheeks turn into a bright shade of red that he finally catches on to.
“What’s go you so flustered all of a sudden, angel?” he teases squeezing your hand a few times egging you on.
You cover your cheeks with your other hand and tightly held his hand to make him stop, “I’ve never held hands with someone before.”
He smirks inching closer to your face, feeling his breath on you as he tried to memorize every part of you with half-lidded eyes, “Never been this close with a handsome bloke before?”
You stand from your seat, evidently towering over him from the sheer height difference then caging him in his both of his hands above him as you pinned him to a wall behind him.
“Never. Would you like to change that?” you whispered by his ear, earning a shudder from him.
“Bet,” he grins letting his forked tongue slither out of his mouth introducing itself to you while letting himself loose and held your waist. “Let’s go somewhere quiet.”
As the two of you disappeared from the group’s sights, Angel drunkenly yells, “OH, SHIT! LUCIFER’S GETTING SOME ASS TONIGHT!”
“Ewwww,” Charlie cries in disgust not welcoming the thought of his father fucking someone in her brain.

more literary terms
Asyndeton: The omission of a conjunction from a list ('chips, beans, peas, vinegar, salt, pepper').
Elision: The omission of one or more letters or syllables from a word. This is usually marked by an apostrophe: as in 'he's going to the shops'.
Feminine Rhyme: a rhyme of two syllables in which the final syllable is unstressed ('mother | brother'). If an iambic pentameter ends in a feminine rhyme the last, unstressed, syllable is usually not counted as one of the ten syllables in the line ('To be or not to be, that is the question' - the 'ion' is unstressed and takes the line into an eleventh syllable). Feminine rhyme can be used for comic effect, as it is frequently in the works of Byron: 'I've spent my life, both interest and principle, | And think not what I thought, my soul invincible.' It can also be sometimes used to suggest a feminine subject-matter, as in Shakespeare's Sonnet 20, which is addressed to the 'master mistress of my passion' and which makes extensive use of 'feminine' rhymes.
Polysyndeton: The use of multiple conjunctions, usually where they are not strictly necessary ('chips and beans and fish and egg and peas and vinegar and tomato sauce').
Topos: from a Greek word meaning 'place', a 'topos' in poetry is a 'commonplace', a standard way of describing a particular subject. Describing a person's physical features from head to toe (or somewhere in between) is, for example, a standard topos of medieval and Renaissance poetry.

I Love You, Cyar'ika
Dark!Din Djarin x Jedi!Female Reader
Warnings: corruption arc, violent murder but not described in depth, possessive behavior, obsession, loss and anxiety, light smut, manhandling of the reader by Din
Word Count: 4,500
Summary: Din Djarin is a man who lost everything. His home, his son, his Creed. But at the end of the day, he still had you. He still had you, and he was determined to keep you. Sequel to 'Ni Ceta, Cyar'ika'
.
"i am terrified by this dark thing that sleeps in me."
.
It wasn’t until the second half of your first hour trapped that you realized the chain around your ankle wasn’t just metal. It was beskar. The links branched together were long enough to allow you to walk to the neighboring bathroom, but not long enough to reach the door out. The horror of your situation was truly settling into your very soul. Din had locked you away. Din. The man you loved. And the worst part, as if any of this could possibly be worse, was the fact that he only knew you had tried to run away hours ago.
When exactly did he have this chain made?
You spent the rest of your morning trying to rip the chain out of the wall where it was connected to no avail, and when that didn’t work you somehow tried to pull your ankle out of the clasp. It was impossible. The clasp was just tight enough on your skin that you would not be slipping it unless you started considering something much more dramatic, but you couldn’t bring yourself to stop. You tugged and screamed until your ankle was discolored and your throat was raw.
Then you broke. Quite some time ago, before your extensive Jedi training, you had quite the temper. It took years for you to get a handle on controlling it, but these last few months the frustration and worry had slowly whittled down your very being. So, for the first time in a very long time, you threw a tantrum. You knocked over the nightstand by your bed, hurling every single item you could reach, and destroyed everything that was in your path.
When you were spent, exhausted from the emotional and physical turmoil, you slumped against the wall panting for breath. Your legs splayed out in front of you so you could glare at the beskar that wrapped around your ankle. You felt so pathetic and vulnerable. It didn’t help that you only wore your undergarments and one of Din’s shirts. It had been what you fell asleep in last night while curled up to the man who chained you to a wall.
The bedroom door opened and Din froze in the doorway. You watched his eyes scan the room in shock before they landed on you. He let out a breath of disbelief, “Cyar’ika.”
“I don’t think I want you to call me that right now.” You said.
Din’s shoulders slumped and he had the audacity to look hurt at your words. As if he hadn’t chained you to a fucking wall. He stepped into the room and shrugged out of his robe⏤ tossing it onto the bed as he neared. Din’s eyes landed on your ankle and his eyes widened. “Me’bana!?” He knelt down to take hold of your ankle, but you tried to pull your legs in to avoid his touch. Din, refusing your refusal, grabbed you by the calf and dragged you toward him.
“Get off!” You barked and kicked out at him.
Din pinned you to the floor using his weight to keep your hips down and a hand to pin your wrists above your head. The emotion on his face as he stared down at you was not one of anger or even frustration. It was desperate. “Stop. You’re going to hurt yourself. Dank farrik, you already have. Don’t make it worse.”
“You think I care?” You spat your words at him, squirming. “I don’t! I’ll do what I have to if it means⏤”
Din’s other hand snapped up to grab you by the jaw. His fingers pressed into your cheek, not painful but firm, and his face darkened. Anger finally seeped into his features. “I said, stop. I know you’re upset, I know you’re angry with me, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let you hurt yourself.” You sucked in a sharp breath when he leaned down to rest his forehead against yours. Hand still on your jaw. Din’s eyes closed as he spoke. “You are going to sit still while I take care of you. Understand? This is not up for debate, cyar’ika.”
You didn’t respond. Refused to. Din let out a soft sigh before releasing your jaw and wrists. He sat up and pulled his weight off of you. Slowly, you sat up and chose to just sit there. He pulled his gloves off, tossing them aside in the mess you had already made of the room, and with a tender touch he pulled your leg into his lap. Din’s warm fingers shifted the beskar so he could peer at the skin beneath it. He hissed at the sight of your already forming bruises⏤ the discoloration would be worse tomorrow.
“Cyar’ika⏤”
“I said don’t call me that.”
Din shook his head. “Why would you do this to yourself?”
“Myself?” You scoffed. “You’re the one who put me in chains, Din!”
“To keep you⏤”
“Safe?” You finished for him, but you spat the word bitterly. Din wilted and continued to carefully trace your sore skin. It bothered you that his touch brought you comfort, but that wasn’t something you could just turn off. “When did you have this chain made, Din?” He didn’t reply. “It’s made of beskar. You didn’t just swing out and pick it up. You had it made. When did you⏤”
“Three weeks ago.” Din kept his eyes downcast, glued to your ankle. You took in a sharp breath. It would have been less painful, less shocking, if Din had just reached out and slapped you. Three weeks ago? How long did he have this planned? His warm brown eyes met yours⏤ a gaze you had always been weak to. Your face must have shown your betrayal because Din squeezed your calf softly. “I never planned to use it. I never wanted to use it.”
“But you did.” You mumbled the words out.
Din winced. “I know, cyar’ika. I know. I’m sorry. You will never understand how sorry I am⏤ I will spend the rest of my life trying to remind you. I⏤” He sighed and his thumb traced lazy circles against your skin where it sat. “More than anything though, my love, I need to protect you. I cannot lose you. I wouldn’t survive that.”
“You’re losing me right now, baby.” You shook your head. Tears springing up. “You’re breaking my heart, you’re losing my trust⏤” Din squeezed his eyes shut. Pained and devastated. “How do you think this will end?”
“You will understand. One day.” Din said firmly. He spoke like he was trying to convince himself of this. “Until then, I am just doing what is necessary.” Din rose to find the first aid kit and when he returned you just stared at him. He knelt down once more and wrapped padding around your ankle so the metal wasn’t touching bare skin anymore. When he was satisfied with how it looked, he carefully held your arms and pulled you up to stand. Din cupped your face with his hands, setting a tender kiss on the top of your head before choosing to rest his forehead against yours. “I love you, cyar’ika.”
This wasn’t love, but you couldn’t bring yourself to tell him that.
The only times you were unchained from the wall was when you were with Din. He’d take your hand in his and the two of you would wander down the halls or outside of the castle. Always two Mandalorian guards lingering behind you both. You had one arm looped through Din’s. His thick robe draped over your shoulders once more.
“Bo thinks offering an olive branch would make us seem weak. I’m inclined to agree with her.” Din thought aloud. Most of these walks were him talking to you about his day. You didn’t offer much more than the occasional hum or a snide comment if he pressed too hard. That’s what two weeks of being chained like an animal could do to you. “We have more power than them. It wouldn’t be too difficult to overtake them.”
You hummed. Din glanced down at you and his arm squeezed around yours. There was hope shining in his eyes as if he was eager to hear you offer any sort of commentary. You focused your gaze forward. “The Din I fell in love with wouldn’t jump head first into a war.” His steps stuttered. “He’d try for peace.”
“Cyar’ika.” Din came to a slow stop and turned to face you. His other hand lifted to rest on yours. It trapped your hand against his forearm. “I am the man you fell in love with. That has not changed.” Your eyes darted down to the darksaber hanging from his belt. Din sighed. “This is still about the saber?”
You shook your head. “It always will be. That damned saber has changed you.”
“It hasn’t⏤”
“It has!” You yanked your arm away from his and took a step back. Anger flaring once more. “I keep telling you. It’s poison.” The energy that surrounded it felt suffocating, but it had only gotten worse these last few days. The possession was still there and now it’s tendrils seemed to be trying to seep out into your very soul. As if it could convince you that it had good intentions. “It’s me or the darksaber, Din.”
He shook his head and you shoved him once in the chest. He barely stumbled back. The Mandalorian guards leapt forward, hands on their weapons in preparation to take out the threat against their King, but Din threw his arm out to stop them. The glare he leveled in their direction was deadly. They both took sheepish steps away. Din focused back on you and the anger in his eyes dissipated back into despair. “You can’t make me choose.” He sighed. “We’ve talked about this. I need the darksaber to keep you safe.”
“We’re just going to argue in circles forever, aren’t we?” You sighed.
Din stepped closer and caressed your face. He leaned in to capture you in a kiss, but you turned at the last second so his lips pressed against your cheek instead. Since the morning you woke up with a beskar anklet, you hadn’t let Din touch you. The first night he slipped into bed behind you, just to sleep, and you had lost your mind. Now, he slept on the small couch that was pushed against the wall in your living space. He pulled back enough that his lips were no longer touching you, but he didn’t stray far.
“I love you, cyar’ika.”
He truly believed it, but obsession⏤ possession⏤ was not love.
At the month mark, you knew things needed to change. Din was too stubborn to concede. He’d keep you chained to that fucking wall forever. So, you started small. You had to play this smart. It began with little things like thanking him when he brought you food or new gifts. Choosing to participate in conversations when the two of you went on walks around the palace. A lingering touch here and there when you were able, and you never shied away from his own touch.
Still, a sudden change in demeanor would give you away. Din, as blinded as he was by the darksaber, was not an idiot. He’d see through your act in seconds, and the fate of his and your life depended on deceiving him. You had to get off this rock. You had to get to help. After thinking about it long and hard, you decided you needed to get to Skywalker. The other Jedi were your best bet. It was just a matter of getting there.
Oddly, your saving grace came in the form of an attack.
Because Din never kept you fully in the loop of the things happening in Mandalore, you weren’t entirely sure what was happening. Being chained to the wall when the explosions started did not help either. For the first fifteen minutes of the disaster all you could do was stand in place, frozen, while straining to listen. Eventually, the explosions stopped, but it was replaced with yelling and thundering footsteps. Not a good sign. As it got closer and closer you searched the room for a weapon or hiding the place. You wouldn’t fit under the bed and even if you hid in the bathroom there would be a chain lying on the floor leading straight to you.
The yelling came right out the door and you didn’t even have time to register the language or tone before the door itself was kicked open. Pirates. That was your best guess. Three men dressed for a fight stepped into your space. Two humans and one Trandoshan. They spoke a language you didn’t recognize, something from the Outer Rims, but even when addressing you they never swapped to Basic. One of the humans took a step closer, smirking, and you shifted to a ready stance. The last time you had felt so ill prepared for a fight was back when you first began your Jedi training.
Even on a good day, back before Din spiraled into his current state, you were not good at using the Force. Reading energies was your strength, but healing and telekinesis was never your forte. Now? Being as stressed and buried in negative energy as you were, it was nearly non-existent. Every day you spent around the darksaber you felt further from the Force for some Maker forsaken reason. The Force you recognized, at least.
The Trandoshan began to rummage through the room scavenging, but the two human men were still approaching you. They laughed and motioned to the chain around your ankle as they spoke to one another. Cautiously, you took a few steps back so the chain’s tension wouldn’t accidentally catch you. When the first man lunged you met him halfway with an uppercut into his throat. It was a blur of muscle memory and desperation from then. You weren’t doing well, you were surviving, but when one of the men got their hands on the chain they were able to pull your legs out from under you.
You roughly landed on your back with a grunt, but the other man was quick to pin you down. You thrashed and screamed trying to get loose, but the other just piled on. Their voices were grating, their laughs sent chills down your spine, and their touch made you nauseous. It all boiled into an uncontrollable rage that slipped from your body with a roar. Suddenly, both men were blown clear across the room. You sat up, breathing hard, and glanced down at your hands. Had you just…? There was no time to puzzle through the power that just flowed from you because the Trandoshan leapt across the room to tackle and pin you back to the floor.
He didn’t have a firm grip on you, and you were able to flip over on him. The victory was short lived when he threw his elbow back, crushing your nose, and you cried out in pain before falling back. The other two men had risen once more, but all of you froze at the terrible roar that echoed down the hall and filled the room with a suffocating tension. It called out your name. You recognized that voice.
In that one moment, a feral pleasure gripped your soul and allowed your anger to roam free. You grinned up at the men, teeth bloody from your broken nose, “You’re fucked.”
Din stalked into the room, seconds later, and he was possessed by his own rage. The darksaber glowed in his hands, as bright as a burning flame, and it cast terrifying shadows across his face which was twisted in hatred⏤ in bloodlust. With the first swing of the saber, the men knew they were not going to bode well and they began to plead, but their words fell on deaf ears. You watched as Din tore them to shreds, a force to be reckoned with, and a sick grin flickered across your features before you could reign it back. Din was leaving the men in literal pieces, brutal in his attack and inflicting the most terror and pain he could manage before taking a life, and you felt a bubbling pleasure building in your chest.
It was only when his warpath was finished, when he deactivated the saber, that your smile fell. The tendrils of pleasure that had seeped into your very soul with watching the love of your life murder on your behalf slipped away. You took in a sharp breath. What the fuck was that? Why the fuck had you⏤ Your hands began to tremble followed quickly by the rest of your body.
“Cyar’ika.” Din gasped and crossed through the carnage to pull you off the ground and into his arms. His panicked words all came out in a rush of Mando’a before he was calm enough to ask once more in Basic. “Are you alright? Did they hurt you?” His gloves wiped away the blood as he examined your nose. “Are you⏤”
“I’m fine.” You replied shakily, but you felt far from it. Physically, there was nothing wrong. Not really. Your nose would heal, the bruises you garnered in the fight would fade. But mentally, spiritually, emotionally… Your eyes drifted down to the darksaber on his belt. What was it doing to you? It took a moment to realize Din was still talking. You shook your head. “What?”
“I said that was the last of them. They came for revenge, but most of the damage was external. Only a few small groups got into the palace.” Din’s hands were petting your hair. Between every word of comfort he’d lean forward and press his lips to your face. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
Focus. Focus. Back to the plan. Back to your mission.
“No.” You swallowed roughly. “I need the chain off.” Din didn’t respond. He just stared at you with wide eyes filled with the fear of a man who had nearly lost the person he swore to protect. You lifted your hands to cup his face and you shook your head. “I’m not going anywhere. You’re not losing me. I’m not losing you. You were right.” You pushed the words out and the tears that fell from your eyes were painfully real. You cried for how lost you felt. It was like you were stuck in quicksand and the more you struggled the deeper you were pulled to it’s dark depths. “I was so scared. I couldn’t fight back. Din⏤”
Din didn’t hesitate. He knelt down and pulled a key from the pouch in his belt to unclasp the metal around your ankle. Hearing it clatter to the ground, feeling the weight drop off, had you sucking in a breath of shock and relief. Din slowly rose once more and you found yourself lost in his eyes⏤ those pretty brown eyes that made you forget every single worry you had. The warm brown eyes that brought you comfort in your lowest moments. The loving brown eyes that gazed at you in worship.
“Stay with me.” You mumbled and cupped his face again.
Din turned his head to press a kiss against your hand. “I’m not going anywhere, cyar’ika.”
Your fingers tightened around him and a shuddering sob left your lips. “Do you love me?” Din looked affronted by the question. His mouth fell open, but you cut him off. “Baby, just listen, if you love me you’ll put the saber away for tonight.” His eyebrows furrowed in confusion and a hiccup left your lips. “Please, baby, just tonight. I just want you. I want only you.”
Din took a slow breath and then took a step out from your grasp. Fear struck you at first, but Din simply crossed the room to his locked chest which sat in the corner. Slowly, he unlatched each piece of his armor and set it carefully into the chest. When he was left with only his flight suit, Din grasped the darksaber and held it in his bare hand for a moment. Finally, he set it into the chest and closed it. The cursed item was just tucked away, out of sight, but it still made a difference. The unrecognizable dark energy that had been plaguing you seemed to disperse and a familiar sensation filled your chest. It was the Force you recognized. For the first time in a month, you felt like you could breathe.
He walked back to where you stood and settled a soft and hesitant hand on the side of your face, “I do love you, cyar’ika. I know this has been difficult and you haven’t been happy.” Din looked heartbroken as he stared down at you. “But you are everything to me.”
This may have started as just a plan to ease him into a lull of security, but that had been forgotten as you stared up at him. For this one second you felt like yourself, and Din felt like himself. A swell of love overwhelmed you and you pushed closer to capture his lips with yours. Din sighed into the kiss, but before you could deepen it he pulled back. “Din?”
“We don’t have to do this, cyar’ika.” Din whispered. “You were just attacked, stressed, and⏤ This⏤ This isn’t… I don’t want you to feel pressured.”
“I don’t.” You shook your head and it was the absolute truth. Right now, Din felt like the man you loved. Maybe it was weak of you to cave, weak of you to seek out his comfort, but you missed him. You craved him. “I want you, and as long as you want me⏤”
Din brought his lips back to yours, his hand cupping the back of your neck, as he softly kissed you. Every minute movement filled with adoration. You wrapped your arms around his neck to draw yourself closer to him. Pulling back to catch a breath, he left a trail of kisses up your jaw to your ear. “Cyar’ika, I always want you.” His hands settled on your hips to bring you flush against him. “I always need you.”
Your hands grew frantic wanting nothing more than to feel his skin against yours. Just like in a fight, you didn’t need to think. Loving him was muscle memory. You peeled the upper half of his flight suit off his body and he took gasping breaths as you broke away from his kiss to caress the scarred skin of his torso. Your nails lightly raked over the skin overlying his ribs as you leaned in to press soft kisses against every scar you could find. Din trembled at your touch, a breathless gasp tearing ragged from his lips.
His own hands lifted to tilt your face up so he could lean down and start a tender kiss. Every slow, languid motion was one born of love rather than lust. There was an innocence to the brushes of skin against skin, and for this one moment nothing existed but you and Din. Not the poisonous darksaber buried in a chest or the corpses of the men that meant you harm. As Din picked you up and pinned you into the bed, his weight pressing into you, all that mattered was Din Djarin.
“I love you, cyar’ika.” Din murmured into the skin of your neck⏤ his face buried there as his hands roamed your body with a familiarity born of routine. “I love you so much, cyar’ika.”
Your heart felt so full, and you wondered if you were the one confused on the extent of what the word love could mean.
Din laughed and you lightly shoved him in the side.
“It’s not funny. Don’t laugh at me.”
“I’m not laughing at you, cyar’ika.” He replied as you grinned. “I’m laughing with you.”
“Yeah, I’m not laughing, you ass.”
He continued to chuckle and you shook your head before looping your arm back through his and leaning against him. Mandalore had been relatively calm since the attack two weeks ago, and you had never felt closer to Din. What had you been so worried about? The two of you were safe and had one another. That was all that mattered at the end of the day. You had misjudged the darksaber’s energy. That possession was just another form of loyalty. It brought you and Din the strength to protect one another. A bond. That’s all it was.
“My Mand’alor.”
Din’s feet paused, bringing you to a stop as well, and you both turned to face a Mandalorian who now knelt before the both of you. The woman held a hand across her chest in pledge. Din didn’t motion for the woman to rise, but hummed for her to continue.
“Our allies who have settled on Concordia are requesting aid currently. Raiders have been plaguing them the last few weeks, but now they are beginning to edge in on the main settlement.”
“Concordia has the means to defend itself...” Din replied.
You squeezed his arm and he glanced down at you. You shook your head. “Concordia is not Mandalore, they’re just allies that⏤ like you said⏤ have their own resources.” Nonchalantly, you shrugged. “We have to protect our own. Any aid we offer to them is taken from our own walls. Our city should come first, Din.”
Din lifted your hand to plant a kiss on the back of it. “Could not have said it better myself, cyar’ika.” He motioned for the Mandalorian to be on her way before the two of you continued down the hall. Only a few yards later, Din chuckled. “I have a gift for you.”
“Oh, do you?” You asked with a smirk.
He pulled you to a stop once more “Close your eyes.”
“Really?”
Din raised an eyebrow at you and you playfully rolled your eyes before closing them and holding your hands out. You heard the sound of shuffling as Din moved. A beat later something warm settled in your palms and you sucked in a sharp breath at the overwhelming flood of emotions that bared down on you. Your eyes opened to first see Din’s excited and loving smile, but then your gaze drifted down to the lightsaber in your open hands.
“I figure it’s about time you’re reunited.” Din chuckled. It had been nearly two months since it had been taken from you. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to your temple. Your fingers slowly closed around the hilt you had built with love so long ago, and waves of warmth radiated down your arms and into your chest. “I⏤” A different voice called out and Din sighed in irritation. “One moment.”
Din stepped around you to address whoever had called out for him and you just stared and stared at the lightsaber. Possession and obsession was not love. It was not the same as loyalty and protection. You blinked in shock as the clear thoughts cut through the fog you hadn't even realized you were living in. You had been yourself, but for some reason your priorities had changed starkly. Not for some reason. One reason. That fucking saber.
"Hey." Din returned to your side and you heard panic in his voice. Those dark tendrils from the saber surrounded you, but could not sink in. He set his hand on your face and his thumb caressed your cheek. "You're crying."
"I...I'm happy." You lied. "Thank you, Din."
"Of course." Din replied though he looked hesitant to believe you. He leaned in to press a kiss between your eyes. "I love you, cyar'ika."
You loved him, and you almost lost yourself.
But, not again.

Salt of the Earth ~ Part 1
Pairing: Michael Berzatto x OFC
Summary: She was Carmy's best friend growing up, and Michael never looked at her as anything other than that until years later when she comes back to Chicago to start over. In the process, she turns his sorry excuse of a life upside down.
Content/Warnings: Friends to lovers, Fluff, Angst, Family Drama, Dysfunctional relationships, Implied/referenced drug addiction, Alcohol mention, Divorce, Pets, Pet names, Dialogue heavy. Undisclosed age gap (in my mind Michael is late 30s and OC is late 20s, but it's really up to your interpretation).
Word Count: 6.8k // 4 chapters // AO3 link.
A/N: This is set in the year of the Fishes episode on season 2. It starts in summer and slowly builds up to that Christmas.
— This was an anon request that I got a few months ago, I hope you're still around. I tried to fit all the ideas you sent as best I could. There's a bit of info dump on the first chapter, but I hope it isn't too off-putting.
Chapter 1: Best thing since sliced bread
Seconds stretch into minutes, minutes elongate into long hours on slow days like this at The Beef. Especially in summer when the air conditioner stops working for the second time in the middle of August. Any living soul that crosses that door must have a dying wish or be the devil themselves to adventure themselves to what has become Michael's personal hell.
It's been a testing year, and there's so much he can do to fix this place right now. While he waits for Fak to come check the damn AC unit, Michael tends the front while Ebra takes his lunch break.
Turning the paper's pages on the counter, he comes across an article about the extensive fires eating different parts of the country. A wretched thought crosses his mind as he reads – maybe it'd be better to burn this place to the ground and start over. He entertains the idea for a second until the door swings open, inviting more heat into the boiling pot.
He lifts his eyes from the words to find a familiar face approaching the counter. It's not Fak, but a much better vision of someone he used to know.
“Mayhem Maya.”
“Magic Mikey.”
That former thought of burning down this place disappears somewhere in the midst of that beautiful aura that saunters with her big brown eyes, long raven hair, nervous smile, and firm steps.
“It's been a while, Maybird.” Almost ten years since she set foot in this establishment. “What brings you to this hole in the wall?”
“Came to collect that meatball sub you promised at uncle Teddy's funeral, remember?”
“Oh, right.”
Ever since she moved to a different state, he only had seen her a handful of times when she came back for the holidays. Last time he saw her was at the beginning of spring, when her uncle, Ted Silva, passed away.
“I also had an interview at the new vet clinic on the next block.” She places her cross-body bag on an empty stool while she perches her ass on the one next to it.
“How's that going? Did you get tired of California already?”
“No, I love California. But I needed a change of scenery. It's been rough after… you know…” the divorce. She wasn't married for long, but she still can't bring herself to say the word.
“I’ve heard some of it.” He’s pretty much aware of how everything went down. Well, he’s got grapevine’s juicy version of the story, but he never heard her side directly.
Though Michael and Maya know each other as if they were related, they were never close confidants. She always thought he was the coolest guy in Chicago. And he always thought fondly of her, given their families association, and Maya’s close friendship with his brother.
Michael places an order for her sandwich and grabs a soda for her, while she explains she has two more job interviews later.
“Does your mother know you're back?” He folds the paper and props his elbows on the counter.
“She probably does.”
“Still not talking, huh?”
“It's not my fault she made me the black sheep of the family. She’s like vitriol on steroids.”
“Yeah? What happened at the wake? You left before I could say goodbye.”
Michael recalls the tension at the funeral, particularly at the wake when Angela Silva grabbed Maya by the elbow and took her youngest daughter outside the house as if she was still a child that needed to be scolded.
“Nothing. I barely said a word that day. Guess everything I do feels like a personal attack to her. I can admit that I'm not perfect, and that sometimes I've acted up just to get a reaction out of her, but that day she just went off again…” She pauses without finishing that thought to take a refreshing sip of her coke. “And that wasn't nearly as bad as the day I told her I was getting…”
“Divorced? Why can't you say the word? It's not Voldemort.”
“What the hell do you know about Voldemort?”
“How do I… Who took you and Carmy to buy those damn books? Have you forgotten?” Maya shakes her head. “You even tried many times invoking his name, so I was haunted by eaters or something like that. You two were real potterheads.”
“And you were just a pothead,” she laughs, stirring the ice cubes in her drink with a straw. “I totally blocked that out. We were just a couple of nerds.”
“I’d say!”
“Meatball sub!” Richie calls from the pass-through window and takes a second look when catching Maya in the joint. “Maya Papaya?!”
“Please, don’t call me that.” She scoffs while Richie promptly abandons the kitchen and goes around the counter to give her a welcoming hug.
“Did you know she was coming?” He asks Michael, as he props his ass on the bar.
“Had no idea. She just showed up.”
“Did you tell her about Carmy?”
“What about him?”
“He’s in Copenhagen.”
“Oh, I knew about that.”
“You two talk often?”
“Sometimes, I guess.” Barely more likely. They don't even text anymore. She's tried but there's been nothing but crickets at his end for months.
While Richie grills her about Carmy and what she’s been up to, Michael can’t help but look around the shop to notice, from every corner and wall, memories bouncing all at once in his direction. It takes him back in time to those days when she and Carmy were as thick as thieves.
Their shared history goes back to that same street their families have lived on for over thirty years… It’s still clear in his mind, like it was yesterday, when he was forced to babysit them when they wanted to go to the movies or trick-or-treating or the bookstore. That was a little annoying back then, now he fondly remembers all those times in summer, when they’d go to the convenience store to get ice pops on their bikes. Then they’d ride back and sit in the middle of the swanky rug in their living room and watch TV for hours. More than once they were yelled at by Mama Berzatto when she would come home to find melted colorful stains in the fabric. She would lose her shit. Carmy was used to it. Maya wasn’t, but the girl never flinched once cause Donna and her own mother were cut from the same unstable piece of cloth.
Maya and Carmy were really close up until they went separate ways for college. Their bond was something to admire. They had something so special that inevitably, Carmy fell in love with her. She was his best friend and confident. They kept each other's secrets, and Carmy thought she'd feel the same in return. It wasn't a crazy notion. They spent so much time together, everyone thought it'd lead to something more, but that never happened.
Mikey and Richie used to tease the youngest cub relentlessly. They tried multiple times to encourage him to ask her out, but he never found the guts to do it. Especially if it could potentially end their friendship. Carmy didn't want to lose that. Though he never confessed his feelings, Maya always knew. Even in her teens, call it a woman’s intuition, part of her already knew. Maya wished she'd felt the same toward him, but the heart wants what it wants, and she couldn't change that.
What was really fucked up was that she had the most ridiculous crush on the older Berzatto when she was a teen. While she knew he'd never look at her as anything other than Carmy's annoying little friend, that didn't stop her from daydreaming about it for years. It was a secret that no one ever knew and that was placed in a drawer at the back of her mind after she left Chicago.
After graduating, Maya and Carmy stayed in touch for a long time, until their calls and texts became less frequent. They followed different dreams that required a lot of attention and sadly their friendship got hurt in the process.
While she attended Vet School on the west coast, he became a chef on the east.
Maya thrived at school and work. She really went out on her own, and became the woman she always wanted to be. Unsheltered, confident, outspoken. She outgrew her shell and opened herself to new experiences and people. She loved it all. It wasn’t smooth sailing, but for the most part she was pretty happy with her choices.
And now she's back in Chicago, set on a new path and awaiting to see where it takes her.
She’s living in a house in Oak Park with her dog, Coco; Richie fishes out of her. Apparently, she got some money from uncle Teddy, and she’s invested it in a home for her and her beloved staffy.
“Does Carmy know you’re here?” Richie circles back.
“No, I haven't talked to him in months.”
“Why? Did you two have a fall-out or something?”
“There's no why. We're just busy.”
“Mike, help me out here. Weren’t these two fools supposed to get married?”
“Yeah, everyone thought you'd ended up together.”
“Man, I don't know what to tell you, we just didn't,” her head sinks between her shoulders.
“Just get over yourself and hit him up. The kid has been hung up on you since forever. It looks like things didn’t go so well with your marriage and all. You should take that as a sign, you’d never find anyone better than Carmy. The boy could really use some excitement in his life. And so could you.”
“C’mon, leave her alone. Go back to work, Cousin.”
Michael throws her a lifeline, noticing how miserable she looks every time Richie opens his unfiltered mouth.
“He’s not wrong, you know? You and Carmy… it looked like you two had something special.” Michael offers once Richie is back in the kitchen.
“It’s called friendship. You should look it up.” She points out.
“I have Richie.”
“Exactly. You have Richie. Why don't you two marry the other and leave me alone? If you think about it, you were as close to Richie as I was with Carmy. Even more. Should everyone assume you are in love with him? Cause that's what you're implying.”
“Touché. I'll drop it.”
“Look, as hard as it is to believe, there was nothing else between us. I was aware he felt something for me, but I didn’t feel the same.”
“You should give him a chance sometime. He might surprise you.”
It’s not the first time these two have been trying to play matchmaker between Maya and Carmy, and it’s bizarre to see they still do at any given opportunity.
“Okay, if I give Carmy a chance, you have to give Richie a chance. Those are the rules, Berzatto.”
“Oh, I've tried. He's not into me,” he remarks, amused, and leans closer to confess something in a lower voice. “Do you wanna know a secret?”
“Uh, sure.”
“He and Tiffany are having a baby. He just told me a few days ago.”
“What? You let him reproduce? I'll pray for Tiff.”
Chapter 2: Cool as a cucumber
Everything falls slowly into place as Maya settles back in Chicago. She secures the job at the clinic near The Beef, which is a huge relief after her rushed decision of moving back to her hometown without securing a job first. It was part of the plan all along to practice what she loves but never thought this would be the year. As much as she loved California, once her divorce was finalized she felt like something was trapping her there. And the money she got from her uncle gave her some leeway to improvise, get away from all that, and start over.
Maya is spending her morning going through the stack of unpacked boxes, finding a good place for everything, making it feel more homey. It's not a big house, but spacious enough for the two of them. The big selling point was the backyard for Coco to zoom around and cool down in her wading pool, which she loves. It didn't take long for the five-year-old pup to get used to her new neighborhood. They've even made a couple of friends at the park nearby.
A moment before the doorbell rings, Coco whines from her spot by the window, where she often sits to watch passers in the street.
“Who is it?” Maya playfully asks her dog as she makes her way to the front door.
Through the peephole, she sees Michael's profile as he inspects the porch.
“Hi,” her eyes widen as she opens the door. “Didn't know you were coming.”
“Yeah, I would've called, but I didn't get your number the other day.” But he got her address from Richie's intense questioning when she visited the shop.
“I knocked on two different houses until I got the right one,” he explains as Coco curiously circles around his feet, sniffing his pants, hitting his crotch with her nose in the process.
“No, Coco. Sit. How many times have we talked about no nut-tapping?” Maya glances at her with amusement as the dog sits on her haunches.
“It’s fine,” he snorts. “All dogs do that.”
“Yeah, tell me about it. But she’s not any other dog. I thought I had taught her better. So what brings you here?”
“This.” He offers the paper bag hanging in his hand. “It's just a little house-warming gift.”
“You didn't have to.” As she takes the bag from his hand she ushers him inside before closing the door.
“It's nothing, really.”
He glances around as Maya takes out the box from the bag.
“Wow, a set of knives? That's not nothing.”
“Everyone needs one good set of knives. But you can exchange them for something else if you want.”
“No. I like these. But I gotta warn you that I'm not much of a cook, and I'll probably use the same one for everything.”
“That's fine I can show you sometime though. Is she friendly? ” He points at the dog that keeps staring at him. “Can I pet her?”
“Yeah, she loves everyone. Go ahead.”
Michael cautiously pets the brown coat of her head as her floppy ears lower at the passing of his hand.
“Never pictured you with a pit bull.”
“Me neither. I always thought I'd be a cat lady. But I met her at this adoption drive when she was one, and she stole my heart.”
“I can see why.” Michael crouches down, and pets Coco with both hands. “She's really sweet.”
He lets her lick his chin a couple of times before standing back on his feet. Then they go on a tour around the house.
“It's still a work in progress. I'm thinking of painting a few walls, but we like it so far.”
“Yeah, it has good bones.”
“So you don't have to work today?” Asks Maya.
“No, we've had some trouble with the gas line, and we've been shut down for a couple of days.”
“That sucks. Now where am I going to get my sandwiches and coffee on my way to work?”
“Heard Starbucks is pretty good.”
“Shut up. Don't even joke about that.” She playfully shoves his shoulder as they go back to the living room.
“Are you doing something later?”
She shakes her head. “Why?”
“I don't know, thought you were having a comeback party or something.”
“I don't really have any friends here. And I don't feel like inviting my family yet. As you can see, I still have a lot to unpack.”
“Physically or mentally speaking?”
“Both,” she scoffs.
“Let's do something then? Just you and me. We could grab some pizza, or go out for a drink for old times’ sake?”
“Old times’ sake?” It's amusing, surprising and confusing his sudden interest in her. Maybe he can see how pathetic she thinks she is, and he's taking pity on her. Although, that was never Michael style.
“Yeah, c'mon, Mayhem. You look like you could use some fun.” He picks up a book that's sitting on top from the box opened by the couch that's titled — Dating Again with Courage and Confidence: The Five-Step Plan to Revitalize Your Love Life after Heartbreak, Breakup, or Divorce. “And maybe a rebound or something. You don't need a fucking help book. You only need me to show where to get the best guys, or girls. Whatever you're into.”
“Give me that. I don't need a rebound, a help book, or you for all matter finding me a date.”
“No? Then why do you have that?”
“My friend Paige thought I should give it a try.”
“Maybe she was onto something there.”
“I'm perfectly fine. Just want to finish organizing everything, focus on work and this handful I have right here.” Her hand gestures at Coco. “What are you so interested in my love life anyway? First you try to play matchmaker with Carmy, and now you want me to do what, exactly? Hook up with the first guy I see?”
“No, I'm just asking you to go out and have some fun. I know Carmy was the only friend you had here. And if I was in your shoes, I'd feel pretty lonely.”
“I'm not lonely, Michael. Do I miss my friends in Sacramento? Sure,” she admits. “But I don't wanna force anything. I'm just taking it slow. When the time comes I'll jump right in but for now, this is all I need. Really. Stop pitying me.”
“I'm not pitying you, sweetheart.”
“No? Then what is it? Where is this coming from?”
“I don't know… I've always thought you were the salt of the earth. And though we never really hung out together, I thought you could use… But I can see now that you're different, and that you know what you need right now, so I'll just shut up and back off. Let you do your thing.”
“Thank you. I do know what I'm doing, by the way. You don't have to worry about me. I'll be fine. But I appreciate you coming here anyway.”
“Yeah, of course. And I can help you unpack if you need.”
“Hm, if you don't have anything better to do, be my guest. We could grab a pizza later, if the offer still stands. Or just order some food.”
“Sure.”
Michael helps Maya unpack all the boxes and put everything in place in half the time it'd have taken her alone. They order some food for lunch and spend half the day talking and laughing until late in the afternoon when they decide to go out for some drinks to keep the good vibes going.
At the end of the night, she offers to drive Michael back to his apartment as a thank you for inviting her.
“Did you have fun?” Michael asks from the passenger seat as she pulls up in front of his building.
“Yeah, I did. I'm glad I changed my mind.”
“Me too. I didn't know you were this fun. You're nothing like I remember.”
“Yeah, I was kind of weird growing up. You guys probably thought there was something wrong with me. ”
“Nah, don't be so hard on yourself. We were all weird in our own way.”
“Uh-uh. No Michael Berzatto. You were the coolest guy back in the day, and you still are.”
“I don’t know about that,” he scoffs. “For the record… I never thought there was anything wrong with you.”
“You were probably the only one… Anyway, thank you for today. I know I said I didn't need this, but I guess I did.”
“You're welcome, Maybird. I'm glad you’re back.”
“Yeah, me too.”
“Thanks for bringing me home,” he softly squeezes her arm before reaching for the handle to open the door.
“No problem.”
“You know you can call me if you ever miss your friends, y’know?” he throws casually.
“I uh…sure. I will.”
“Okay.”
“Okay,” she echoes back as he pulls the handle and the door opens.
“Have a good night, Michael,” she says as he gets one foot on the pavement.
“You, too, sweetheart.”
He closes the door and vaguely waves as she sets the car in motion and watches her drive away.
Chapter 3: Don't cry over spilled milk
In the few weeks he's been spending time with Maya, Michael has found himself enjoying her company more than he'd like to admit. Being with her grounds him. She makes him forget for a little while all that's wrong in his life. She's like a beacon in that immerse darkness that his sorry existence has become. Despite having her own set of problems, he's watched her rise above all that with poise. He wonders what it's her secret to her steadfast determination, even when her own family has disavowed her.
After closing shop, he dives into his stash to tame that brewing headache before driving to Oak Park to pay her a visit. She told him earlier via text that she was at Home Depot buying some paint to update the color of her bedroom and asked him to come over to hang out after work.
For some reason, he couldn't say no. Not even the storm in his head is strong enough to deny her request. He has a pull on him, tugging him hard like a dog tied to a leash in her hand, he can’t help but follow her lead.
When he arrives at her house, she's halfway done. Two of the walls shine bright new in a lavender tone as she starts working on the next one.
After having beer and playing a tug of war game with his new friend, Coco, Michael offers his help to finish painting the walls. He uses a brush to paint the corners, while she gracefully uses a roller like a pro with her denim overalls over a tank top, and her raven hair pulled up in a ponytail sprinkled with lavender paint beads. When she lifts one of her arms, he catches a glimpse of a tattoo on the side of her rib cage, leveled to the roundness of her chest that looks like the outline of a dog paw.
“What are you looking at?” She asks after catching him staring.
“You have paint on your chin.”
“Oh.” She wipes it with the back of her hand, but she just spreads the stain along her jaw. “I made it worse, didn't I?”
“Yeah.”
She shrugs it off and continues with the task ahead until the whole wall is covered.
“Is everything okay, Bear?” Maya puts down the paint roller. “You're quieter than usual.”
“Yeah, everything's alright.” It sounds so honest, he almost believes it. “It's just been a long day.”
“I'm sorry that I put you to work.”
“Don't be. This is relaxing.”
“Yeah?” She takes a step back and surveys how much brighter her bedroom looks already after covering most of the former downcast grey. “Is the color right? Do you think it's too girlish?”
Giving the room a once over he says, “it's a good shade. I dig it. It doesn't matter what I think or if it's too girlish, as long as you like it. Do you like it?”
“Yeah. I do.”
She dips the roller on the tray to cover another section of the wall.
“You never told me what happened at the funeral with your mom,” Michael leans on the stepladder, taking a short break.
“Do you really wanna know?” She glances over her shoulder.
“Yeah. Everyone does. I’ve heard some crazy stories about it. Thought I should get it straight from the source.”
“I never pegged you for a gossip girl.”
“I’m not. I’m just making conversation.”
She mockingly narrows her eyes, drawing a lopsided smirk, “liar.”
“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t wanna. But yeah, can’t help being a little curious about it.”
“I don’t mind telling you, but it won’t be as entertaining as those crazy stories people have made up.”
“I’m not here for entertainment. I just wanna hear your side of the story, Maybird.”
Maya lets out a heavy sigh and while keeping her focus on the wall she shares with him what really happened. She’s right to say that is not the best story she’s ever told, though when it comes to her mother, all her stories tend to have a surreal element even she can’t fathom sometimes.
That day at the funeral, she was taken outside during the wake by Angela Silva to get scolded about her imminent divorce. It wasn’t finalized by then, and her mom invoked one last Hail Mary to convince her to stay with her husband, who was also currently dating someone else. It was a messy situation that Maya couldn't wait to get out of, and the fact that her mother never offered an ounce of support wasn’t surprising, but still devastating. Somehow, Angela found that the reason for her separation from her husband was that Maya didn’t want to have kids, and that really vexed Angela. All she wanted for her three kids was to follow the same traditional path Angela was forced into, no matter how miserable she was. Her two older sisters followed her mother’s narrowed traditional values. But Maya, ever-the-nonconformist, swore she would never follow anyone’s drum beat but her own. Her husband thought she’d change her mind eventually. He was wrong. She knew that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, which led her here, to this moment.
“Is your mom ever happy?” Michael has always wondered.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen her happy, except when she’s drunk. That’s why she has to make everyone else miserable.”
“Yeah, but she’s always had a fixation on making you miserable.”
“Like I said, every family needs a black sheep, and I’m it.”
“Is that why you became a vet?”
“Yeah, probably.”
“So, it's true, you don’t wanna have kids? I’m not judging. I’m just curious.”
“I honestly don't know. I just knew that when he told me he wanted to have a baby right away, it didn’t feel right. I said that maybe in six or seven years I’d be okay with it. Told him I wanted to travel and just be us for a while, and he said that was too long to wait. I don’t know… he stopped talking to me, and it was clear that he wasn’t changing his mind, and I wasn’t changing my mind, so. At some point I got tired of trying… He got a girlfriend as soon as I filed for divorce and I got a text from Paige the other day that said he got her already pregnant, like… that was never me. I guess it served me right… I married him on a whim, an impulse without really talking about what we wanted…”
“Hey, don’t feel sorry for yourself. You dodged a bullet there.”
“You really think that?.”
“Yeah, I do. You stood up for yourself and knew when to step back when it didn’t feel right. Not everyone has the balls to do that. Think how miserable you’d be by now if you had tried to please him or your mom. You seem happy now. That's what matters.” He means that with all his heart, and wishes he had the same drive to follow those same steps. As much as he loved the restaurant, he chose to run it to please people within his family. And that love turned into a nightmare he couldn't escape.
“You know… I liked you better when you were quiet,” she quips.
Michael huffs a soft laugh, picking up his brush to resume painting.
When the room is finished, she plugs a couple of fans and closes the door to keep Coco away.
Maya washes her hands and face in the bathroom sink. When she comes out, she catches the motion of Michael's arm as he shoves what looks like a pill into his mouth before taking a gulp of water from one of her glasses.
“What was that? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, yeah. It's just a headache,” looking down, he runs a palm over his short growing beard.
“Is it the fumes?”
“No, I had it before coming here.”
“Michael,” she sighs softly at his name. “You should've told me. I wouldn't have let you help if I knew.”
“Would you stop that? I wanted to help.”
“Okay, c'mere. Let's sit down.”
“No, I think I should get going.”
“Nonsense. I'm not going to let you drive until you feel better.”
He yields with a long exhale, and follows Maya into the living room, where her bed is settled askew in the middle of the space.
She takes a seat on the edge of the mattress and waits for him to sit next to her.
“Give me your hand,” she shows her palm up, as his eyes narrow. “C'mon, don't be a baby, give me your hand, Berzatto.”
“When did you become so bossy?” He slowly lifts his hand and as he lays it on top of her palm, his fingers tremble upon contact with her skin. Maya then uses her opposite hand to clip the webbing between his thumb and pointer fingers with her own and begins massaging that spot.
“My friend Sierra is really into acupressure. She says this is a pressure point that helps with headaches.” She explains while slowly increasing the force. “Does it hurt?”
“Not one bit. Is that like acupuncture?” His voice comes as a whisper as he focuses on her diligent fingers.
“Kinda. I think. I’m not really sure.”
“You don't have to fix me, you know?”
“I'm not trying to fix you, Bear. I just wanna make you feel better.”
“Admit it. You just love a good wounded animal.”
She smiles softly, placing his hand down on his knee and picking up the other. “Does it feel any different?”
He’s not really sure, it wasn’t truly a headache that led them to take that pill but the annoying rambling of his thoughts. She shouldn’t have seen that. And he shouldn’t have lied. But having her hands on his like this is straight up lovely. Inside of him, it truly feels like something is broken, wounded, and missing, and this is giving him a sliver of relief as he waits for the pill to kick in. If he was a better man, he’d tell her the truth. But he’s too far gone for saving. All he can do is keep that facade up.
“Does it?” She insists after not getting an answer.
“A little.”
“Do you wanna lay down?”
Swallowing, he responds with a nod, and they both lean back on the mattress at the same time. Looking at the ceiling, she keeps kneading that pressure point, unsure if she’s even doing it right.
They stay in comfortable silence for a good five minutes and when she finally places his hand down, Maya glances to the side and sees that his eyes have closed, and his chest gently rising and falling. She calls his name softly, but she can see that behind the sharp edges of his face and the ever-growing shade of his beard, he’s truly exhausted, so she doesn’t insist. She extends her hand to turn off the lamp, and curls on the other side of the bed without disturbing his sleep.
“Good night,” she says softly and closes her eyes.
From a dusty corner of her mind comes crawling that little forgotten part that used to harbor a lot of feelings for Michael. Though a few weeks ago he seemed practically the same Michael she knew, over the past month she’s keenly noticed little changes here and there. His eyes sometimes cast a dark shade tainted in nothing but sadness, it’s barely noticeable for other people. It comes and goes, but it tells her he’s not truly as happy as he pretends to be.
Michael wakes up disoriented at the crack of dawn.
It takes him a few seconds to remember he’s still in Mayas’ bed in the middle of her living room and that the weight that has his arm pinned is her body pressed against his. She’s warmly snuggled on his side, with her arms tucked between his chest and hers, and a peaceful expression on her beautiful face. She’s so awfully close, he can smell the scent of her hair, and feel the heat of her breath every time she exhales.
It's such an odd moment for him to have her that close. He's unsure of whether it would be better to slip out of bed unnoticed before she wakes up, or just stay there and watch her sleep for a bit longer. Either option would make him look like a creep, he thinks. So he opts to gently wake her up. His free hand reaches to his forehead to move a stand of hair away. Her brow scrunches as his light-feather touch grazes her skin. His lips curve up as he traces the shell of her ear to see her stir awake. She blinks slowly a couple of times until her focus shifts onto him.
“Hey, Maybird.”
“Hey.” Her lips move, it's barely audible.
“Sorry, I fell asleep.” His fingers absentmindedly massage her earlobe.
She's so stunned by waking up to that level of intimacy, she simply nods, as her mouth softly draws a smile.
“It's fine. Does your head feel better?”
“Much better. That pressure thing really worked.”
“I'm glad.”
“Listen, I gotta go open. Maybe we could do something later?”
“Okay,” she swallows nervously, hoping that waking up with him like this isn't just a dream. “Can you do me a favor first?”
“Sure.”
“Can you stay five more minutes?”
“I uh… I think I can,” against his better judgment, he decides he can stay for a few minutes more holding her.
The way her lips pull up timidly at the corners, revealing the dimples framing her mouth, completely disarms him. He’s always felt a certain affinity towards her, but being this close to her awakes a longing within that feels dangerous. He can’t bring someone new into his life. Not while everything around him is falling apart. It’s already hard enough having to pretend around other people.
He couldn’t do that to her. He won’t.
Michael will have to fight harder because when her arm tucks around his waist he can’t help but press his lips against her forehead.
Chapter 4: Hard nut to crack
Four months later…
After that initial moment of weakness when he fell asleep on her bed, he fought hard to elude that odd longing that has only grown into a big mass of love toward Maya. To anyone else in the world, a feeling as big as that would be a blessing, especially when it's reciprocated. To Michael, it's a weakness he can't afford right now.
Spending all that time with Maya has been like discovering a whole new planet Michael never thought existed. She's all vast, uncharted territory that fazes him more than it should. Despite his best efforts, he’s fallen into her alluring orbit and can’t find the way out into his own universe.
Far gone is that moody teenager that would mumble a few words here and there. And now there's this tragically stunning woman that looks you directly in the eye, says anything that crosses her mind, and laughs without a care in the world.
Though falling in love with her wouldn’t be completely wrong, it's not quite right either. It fills him with guilt to think about her in that manner. Moreover, it feels like a betrayal to Carmy, who’s far away in a different continent, prospering in his craft.
Michael tries to fool himself into believing that this is just temporary infatuation. He’s even attempted several times to convince her to get in touch with Carmy but hasn’t succeeded. It’d be easier for him if she were to put her focus on someone else instead of him. He has nothing to offer to her and has deemed himself unworthy of her, or anyone for that matter. If she only knew what’s really going on with him, she wouldn’t want Michael nearly as she believes she does.
Layer by layer, she’s tearing all his walls and defenses down. And after all the back and forth, he's absolutely sure she wants more than he can offer her. She’s been giving him the right signals. She doesn't shy away from it. Maya is direct and impulsive, and everything about her is fascinating and intimidating.
It’s time to either cut her loose, or accept that he’s madly in love with her and do something about it.
Amidst coming to terms with a final decision, he's lured into a surprise party she's organized for his birthday.
Michael is left speechless by her determination. And a little annoyed too for reasons he can't explain. To be honest, he’s never been a fan of surprise parties, but the main problem is that this would make things much harder for him to let her down easily. She’s carved herself into his life and the longer he drags this out, the worse this is going to hurt.
He’s aware that it’s selfish and obtuse of him for being that ungrateful that someone who cares that profoundly about him, that they would go all out to prove that. He feels like an asshole, but the train has already left the station.
Using the same tiring self-defense mechanism, he draws his best smile and brings out the Michael everyone seems to love. Not without help. There's always that crutch tucked in his wallet in the form of a pill. Being high numbs him enough to deal with the situation.
The cherry on top comes at the end of the night, when he walks her up to her car and asks if he's had a good time. He lies through his teeth and for the first time, he can tell Maya is not buying it. Perhaps she never did, but he's well-versed on her tells by now, and he can clearly see she's fed up with all the bullshit that comes out of his mouth.
“Look, it's not that I didn't like the party. It's just that I hate surprises, and I was exhausted today. But it was a nice thought, sweetheart. I just… I wasn't in the right mood.” It's seemingly convincing the second time around, but her face shows nothing but regret. “I love the jacket you bought me, though.”
Michael has never been interested in fashion, but he's always loved vintage jackets, and the one she picked it's a perfect addition to his collection. It's a bomber jacket, aviator style, in brown leather with a couple of patches and fur collar.
As they reach Maya's car, they come to a stop. She turns to him, “I know I can be a little too much sometimes. But I promise no more surprises from now on.”
“You and I both know, you won’t be able to keep that promise even if your life depended on it. That's part of what makes you– you, sweetheart. Don’t let my bad mood ruin that.”
“I’ll try.”
After a beat, without hesitation she leans in to leave a goodnight kiss on his bearded cheek and on a whim, she decides to press a second one on his lips.
It takes him completely aback. He wants to dive so badly into her mouth, but he freezes on the spot. And when Maya attempts to deepen the kiss, he finally reacts by placing a placating hand on her shoulder as he pulls his head back.
“I'm… I'm sorry we can't do this, Maya.”
“Wait, I thought… Did I misread something?”
“No, you didn’t misread anything. I just can’t do this.”
“Why?”
“I can't.”
“You can't or don’t want to?”
“Guess I don’t want to.”
“Can you at least tell me why? Did I do something wrong?”
“You did nothing wrong, sweetheart.” He wants to spill out the old – it's not you, it's me – excuse, but he refrains. Every thought and action go against every good instinct he's ever had. He hates himself for making her feel insecure. And yet, he can't backtrack now.
“Stop calling me sweetheart. You see how misleading that is?”
“Sorry. I think I gave you the wrong impression.”
Her eyes narrow, and he can see the gears turning for a long moment before opening her mouth.
“I don't think you gave me the wrong impression, Michael. I think you're too chickenshit to admit that there's something between us and, for whatever reason, you're just taking the coward's way out. You've been weird the whole night, especially with me. I just threw a party just for you, the least you can do is tell me why.”
“I didn't ask you to do that. And I don't owe telling you shit! I was trying to let you go easy, but nothing is ever easy with you. So I'll just say it. This, you and me, is never going to happen.”
It sounds ridiculous as it comes out of his mouth, but he stands firm on that statement as her heart breaks in front of him.
In the end, it'd be better for her, he believes.

"Doctor Martin, why are you an atheist?"
Director Maria Kleinheart wasn't the sort of person who asked indirect or idle questions. She was in every way a Kleinheart, the spitting image of her grandmother. Only she wasn't staring out from a yellowed ad in a back issue of Popular Science or Woman's Day, she was staring from across desk made of polished slate.
Emil Martin didn't respond immediately. That sort of question usually came with an invitation to services or a badgering about Pascal's wager. That didn't fit what he knew about the director, though that wasn't much. An intense religious conversion would explain the rumors around her distance from the rest of her family.
"Director, is this a personal or work related question?" Emil finally asked.
"Work." She replied.
"Is that appropriate?"
"Yes. This is about security clearances."
That made even less sense. Emil decided to risk a lecture on his eternal soul and answered truthfully. "Pretty standard, insufficient evidence."
"Would you rather it be true?" She asked. "Would it be comforting to know you existed for a purpose, that someone was in charge of your existence, caring for you?"
"Not really." Emil replied. "I'm rather Hitchenisan in that regard."
"Good enough. Follow me."
-
"BE NOT AFRAID."
The words seemed to come out of the air itself. The thing was at the center of the large, expansive lab that had once been a missile silo. It was a sphere, surrounded by two rings of brass-like metal. The rings were lined with hemispherical semi-translucent white glass or crystal protrusions. The inner ring spun slowly, as did the central core, though only the faintest irregularities in its glowing blue-white corona revealed that motion.
The outer ring was held in place with steel chains, each link six inches in diameter. Two chains locked the ring to the floor, while a third latched the top to the ceiling. The cuffs the chains connected to seemed to have been welded shut around it.
"BE NOT AFRAID." It 'spoke' again. Its voice was clear and musical, but wrong and artificial at the same time. It sounded like familiar voices; his mother and father, his cousins, his old school pals, his boyfriends, even Director Kleinheart, each synthesized poorly via an AI speech simulator, all speaking in perfect time.
Every time it spoke, Emil smelled his grandfather's sweet cornbread fresh from the oven.
"That looks like an angel." He finally gasped.
"Looks like." Director Kleinheart smiled. He wasn't sure she could do that. "I knew we picked the right man."
"This is why you were asking about my beliefs?"
"Yes Doctor Martin. You see, freedom of religion is an extension of the principle of innocence until proven guilty. Once one faith is shown to be correct, all others are revealed as wrong."
"And you wanted to make sure I, what, wasn't guilty of being wrong?"
"No, the mistaken are innocent of everything except the actions they directly take." Kleinheart continued. "It's the ones who would take this to mean they were right that are fifth columnists to an unaccountable alien power."
"Oh." Emil replied. He didn't know quite what else to say.
"I want you on our team that's studying it. We need to know how it works, what it's made of, what those things its made of can be used for, you know the drill."
"BE NOT AFRAID." Again came the smell of cornbread.
"Are the restraints necessary?" Emil asked. "It is telling us we don't need to be afraid of it."
"Oh, we thought that too at first." The director said. "But we've already learned quite a bit about our little intruder here, even a bit of its 'source code' for lack of a better analogue. That message isn't meant for us."
"What is it then?"
"Can't you guess, Doctor?"
Dr. Emil Martin shrugged. "I have no idea."
"It isn't giving us a warning."
Director Kleinheart smiled for the second time in Emil's memory and spoke again.
"It's repeating its orders."

Story Summary: As the new liaison between Piltover and the Undercity, you've been guided by the enigmatic escort Ran to meet with their boss- and fearsome criminal kingpin- Silco, as well as his alluring right-hand woman Sevika. You're well aware that plenty of shady things take place in the depths below, but there's something particularly mysterious about these three that you can't quite put your finger on.
AN: This is already in process over on AO3.
The ride down the lift that carried passengers between the starlit skies of Piltover and the dark bowels of the Undercity was no different that night than any other. Ran, your escort, stood in silence just behind you, uncomfortably close despite there being more than enough room to leave you breathing space. Their ebony lips curled into a small smirk when you peered at them from over your shoulder. You offered a shy smile in return before returning your attention to the iron bars of the gate in front of you.
The clear lights from the lampposts above slowly faded the deeper you traveled, replaced by the sparse neon lights barely visible through the thick smog rising from the sump level in the depths below. It pained you to know there were people forced to live in such conditions, but that was part of your job, the reason you traveled to the Undercity once every week.
- - - - - - - - - -
You had been hired as a liaison to work between the Piltover council and the Undercity’s industrialist Silco. It was your responsibility to oversee negotiations between the two, a bit of a messenger and peacekeeper for lack of a better term. You were a neutral party, working to find terms that would favor, or at least be most agreeable, to both sides.
Your first meeting with Silco and his right-hand woman Sevika had been admittedly both terrifying and unnerving. Though you were privy to many rumors, and excessively debriefed by your employer, it did little to prepare you for seeing them in person.
Silco, criminal kingpin, driven to convert the Undercity into the independent nation of Zaun, was a thin, pale, heavily scarred man that simply exuded power and control. Mismatched eyes; one, sitting among the scarred side of his face- a contrasting fire among a black abyss, the other, arguably just as terrifying in its seeming ability to see your soul- a beautiful shade of blue. Lips thin, pulled into a serious taut line. Dark slicked back hair with trails of silver flowed like an extension of the scar on the left side of his face. Suit tailored as if straight from one of Piltover's finest, a regal mix of dark red, black and gold trimmings and accents. His voice was cool, calm, but with a clipped edge that left no room for arguing. He spoke almost poetically, with metaphors and eloquent rhetoric, clearly far more educated than a majority of his Undercity peers. Though he spoke softly to you, his tone almost sensual in nature, you suspected that could take a frightening turn if he were cross.
Sevika, Silco’s second in command, was equally a sight to behold. Tall, muscular, dark, and brooding. She too donned scars, but considerably smaller, vein-like and glowing a lovely blueish-purple against her rich brown skin. They ran along her left check, traveling down her neck, under her leather choker, then disappeared beneath the collar of her leather top. Her eyes, a rare and lovely shade of gray, glowed eerily red and purple at times. She too had dark hair, cut in a short angled bob, half pulled into a tie at the back of her head. But her most notable and unnerving feature was her left arm; a mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic amalgamation- including gears, tubes, and enough joints and movable components to make it a fully functional extension of her body. She typically kept it hidden between her maroon cape, but you had more than once gotten a glimpse when she lifted that arm or shifted such that her cape fell aside. Sevika's voice was unique too. Deep, a bit raspy, and noticeably sultry. At least it seemed that way when she spoke directly to you. She, however, was more straight to the point with her words. She didn't use fancy language or long-winded stories to convey her thoughts. She said exactly what she was thinking and nothing more. And similar to her employer, she too had a tone you suspected could strike fear into anyone who pushed her buttons.
Even your escort, Ran, another of Siclo’s lackeys, was wrapped in mystery and danger. Though they spoke very little, it only served to drive that fear and unease deeper. Their appearance, though slightly less unnerving than Silco or Sevika, still left the impression they were not someone you’d want to trifle with. Their short, black, choppy hair hung diagonally across their face, obscuring their left eye. Dark black makeup painted their lips and surrounded their eyes, a stark contrast to their pale complexion. A leather harness wrapped around their seemingly out of place crisp white shirt, twin blades resting in the sheaths at their back. Similar to Sevika, Ran’s right hand appeared to be a prosthetic, or included some sort of dark metal covering.
Admittedly, the three of them intrigued you despite the fear they instilled. However, Sevika was the one to have piqued your interest the most.
The meetings, held weekly and late in the evening at Silco's office above his establishment- a bar or club of sorts- always started with just you and Sevika, typically for an hour or two before Silco would finally appear. At first you thought it simply was that he was just a busy man, running late and nothing more. However, after several failed attempts to initiate the discussions you were sent to hold on behalf of the Piltover council with Sevika, you started to suspect she was intentionally calling you in early. For something entirely different.
Each visit Sevika would sit on the large settee beside you, arms spread across the back and legs spread wide, a cigarillo or glass of liquor in her prosthetic hand. Her human hand always rested near your neck, fingers occasionally brushing along the sensitive flesh, subtle enough to be considered unintentional, but it sent chills down your spine each time.
Some nights she would listen to you talk about anything and everything you could come up with. Some nights the two of you would sit in comfortable silence. On rare occasions, she would grace you with little tidbits of her own life, to which you hung on every single word spoken in that enticingly deep voice of hers, your eyes glued to her full lips.
- - - - - - - - - -
You were pulled from your thoughts at the sudden jolt of the lift coming to a stop. Your body lurched forward, not prepared for the abrupt halt.
Ran’s metal hand reached out, finding purchase on your shoulder and preventing you from falling face first into the iron bars.
You gasped softly, quickly grasping one of the bars and righting yourself. “Sorry,” you murmured awkwardly to Ran who then stood beside you. “And thank you.”
Their dark lips pulled into a crooked grin. One that had you wondering if they were amused by your slip. They said nothing though, removing their hand, but not without first dragging the very tip of a metal finger along the side of your neck.
The touch sent chills down your spine. It was so subtle, so casual, you weren’t sure if it was intentional. But you weren’t about to ask.
Ran stepped past you, flashing one last smile to your stunned expression.
You followed, feeling suddenly more apprehensive about the night’s meeting than usual.
You sat on the dark burgundy settee in the dimly lit room of Silco’s office, trying to keep your cool as you waited for his arrival, which over the past few visits had been suspiciously later and later.
Sevika, seated beside you, absentmindedly ran the fingers of her human hand through the hair just above your neck. Twirling the strands, her fingertips brushed along the stretch of sensitive skin below.
It took every ounce of willpower not to simply purr, or let your head roll forward, close your eyes, and just relish in the sensations. You were only brought out of your daze when you heard her husky voice beside you.
"You're a lot prettier than our last liaison."
Turning your head, you peered up at her curiously. Had you heard her right?
Gray eyes, almost glowing in the faint light of the desk lamp several feet away, were trained on your exposed neck. Her dark taupe lips pulled up at one corner of her mouth.
You could feel the heat begin to spread across your cheeks. "Are you- are you trying to court me?" you asked incredulously, your voice barely above a whisper.
"Court?” She chuckled– a deep, sensual little laugh, eyes drifting to yours. “You mean, am I trying to seduce you?"
When you only offered her a shy little smile, she continued in a playful tone, "That depends. Is it working?"
"Yes," you admitted, heat flooding your cheeks and ears when you realized what you just confessed. Before you could attempt to cover it up, she spoke again.
"Then why don't you be a good girl for me and lie down so I can do this properly."
That was not what you’d expected. Not at all. You expected her to be surprised, or put off. She couldn’t possibly have been serious. But she was.
Your chest tightened, the implications of the situation quickly setting in. Any ounce of confidence you had remaining was gone in an instant. And you suddenly felt terribly unprepared for whatever was about to take place.
Sevika must have taken notice, as she tried to coax you on.
"C'mon, sweetheart. I don't bite," she purred, then raised a single brow. “Unless you want me to.”
The sinful curl of her lips revealed pearly white teeth, including a pair of eerily pronounced canines. Thick fingers made a long sensual drag along your neck as her hand left the back of the seat. The cushions rose as the weight of her lifted when she stood to leave you the room necessary to lie back on the large settee.
“What if Silco comes in?” you asked, eyes darting between the door and Sevika’s far too tempting smile.
“He won’t be here for a while,” she assured you.
Again, you were left to wonder if that was intentional. If Sevika had planned these early arrivals to have alone time with you. To do whatever it was she had planned to do right then and there.
Despite your trepidation, you finally complied, pulling your feet up onto the settee and turning to lie across it. As you let your head fall back to rest against the arm, Sevika bent down, looming over you while she grabbed a pillow from behind your arm and placed it in the gap beneath the incline of your upper back and neck.
"Thank you." Your words were so quiet you were uncertain she could even hear you. Your eyes tracked her movement, but you focused on her prosthetic hand, finding it too difficult to look into her eyes.
Her human hand tapped the valley between your thighs, just above your knees.
You lifted your gaze to hers in question.
"Make some room for me, sweetheart." It was a command, but spoken with a hidden promise behind it.
Heart hammering in your chest, your eyes remained on hers as you spread your legs just wide enough for her to place one of her own knees between yours. The other knee came to rest on the opposite side of yours so that she was straddling your leg. Even in her kneeling position she towered over you, blocking what little light the tiny desk lamp could offer.
Your eyes fell to the point where her knee was touching yours, hovering there for a moment before traveling up the length of one of her thick thighs and across the muscular planes of that teasing strip of exposed abs. They continued up over the rise and fall off her soft chest, then the leather choker surrounding her neck. Over those thick, dark, smirking lips, and her pronounced nose, before your gaze finally landed on her gray eyes. Even without the light of the lamp, those eyes somehow seemed to glow in an eerie mix of red and purple.
"You aren't scared are you?" she asked, observing your fraught expression and tense posture.
"No," you whispered with a small shake of your head. "Just- just nervous," you admitted.
Her brows raised as she spoke, "Nervous?"
Averting your attention to the leather bracelet around her wrist you replied shyly, "I- I just don't want to disappoint you."
It wasn’t a complete lie. This was a powerful woman who clearly was experienced, likely much more so than you. And you desperately wished to please her. Though not for the reasons or in the ways you should as liaison. But another part of you also worried if this was right. To allow her to have you like this. This certainly wasn’t part of your job description. Not to mention this could certainly appear as if Sevika was trying to win some sort of favor or advantage in what was supposed to be an even, fair deal between Piltover and the Undercity.
And yet, your body seemed to speak louder than any voice of reason. And your body wanted nothing more than to give Sevika whatever she wanted.
Your gaze slowly drifted back to her seductive grin and glinting eyes.
She placed the palms of her hands on the arm of the settee on either side of your head, her cape further shrouding you in darkness. She bent down to bring her face closer to yours, noses nearly touching. "I'm certain you won't," she purred, her warm breath fanning across your face as you took a deep breath.
You were drowning in her scent; a heady mix of fine liquor, cigarillos, and smoke. Your lips parted and breath hitched as you watched her descend further, mouth inching towards yours. Her head tilted just enough to allow space for her nose to fit beside your own. Heat flooded your body and you closed your eyes. You felt her lips pause a hair's breadth away from yours. The room was utterly silent save for the breaths you two exchanged through parted lips. The heat that had invaded your body was instantly replaced with an ache that concentrated in the apex of your thighs and spread down through your legs. A breathless moan escaped the small gap of your open mouth when you felt the tip of her tongue snake teasingly along your bottom lip. Her name fell from your mouth in a breathless whisper. Suddenly, it felt as though the room had begun to spin.
When her soft lips finally connected with yours in a passionate kiss it nearly took your breath away. Moaning against her mouth, your hands instinctively grabbed the collar of her top, trying to pull her closer while you pressed your mouth to hers fervently. Her nose rubbed along the side of your own, brushing along your cheek when she adjusted the tilt of her head to deepen the kiss.
Her metal hand slid down to rest against the seat to support her body as her human hand slipped under the front of your shirt. It left a trail of heat as she slid it up along your abdomen to cup a breast through the thin material of your bra. Her tongue delved into your mouth, tip gliding hungrily along the backs of your teeth.
When her tongue receded, you attempted to replicate her movements, your tongue dipping into her mouth and brushing along her teeth. The sudden gentle press of a sharp canine into your tongue had you gasping against her mouth.
Her throaty chuckle elicited another deep moan. She released your tongue, only to lick along it with her own.
Releasing your grip on her collar, your hands slipped up and around her neck, burying your fingers in her silky hair.
Sevika moved her mouth to your chin, kissing a line along your jaw. She pressed her knee against the apex of your thighs.
A wave of pleasure rolled through your body. You tilted your head back against the pillows, softly moaning her name.
Her lips pressed against the taut, exposed flesh of your throat. Burying her nose into your neck, she inhaled deeply. A low groan pulled from her chest as she kissed, sucked, and nipped her way to your pulse point. When your fingers pulled at her hair, forcing her mouth closer, she released something akin to a growl.
Your mind was in too much of a daze to determine if that sound was a threat or a result of her pleasure. Either way, it only urged you to pull her even closer.
A pair of surprisingly sharp teeth grazed along that delicate point in your neck, threatening to sink in deep and break the flesh. The fingers that were gently groping your breast moments ago pressed harder into the softness, nails leaving little crescent moons in their wake.
“Sevika,” you moaned wantonly as you ground against her knee.
Her breath was hot and heavy against your skin, as if she was getting off to just the taste and smell of your skin.
Or what was beneath it.
And then, without warning, she was gone. With nothing more than a startling, loud growl of frustration.
You blinked several times, still lost in the haze of arousal. Your hands rested at your sides, fingers twitching at the loss of Sevika’s silky hair between them. As your vision came into focus, you found Sevika standing beside the opposite end of the couch, her back to you. Her body was almost heaving, breaths ragged and shaking her body.
“You need to leave,” she growled quietly without facing you.
“What?” you asked, slowly sitting up.
“I said you need to leave!” she growled, much louder this time as she glared at you from over her shoulder. Her normally gray eyes flashed a bright purple, but her mouth was obscured by her cape.
You wanted to ask why. What you had done wrong. What about the reason you came there in the first place. You hadn’t even had the chance to speak to Silco yet. But her anger, her tone, her glare- it all left no room for questions. So you quickly gathered your bearings, or what little you could, and made your way to the door. With your hand on the knob, you paused. Swallowing hard, you turned one last time towards Sevika.
She still refused to look at you. Even with her cape covering most of her body, you could see- even feel - the tension.
What the hell happened?
With a resigned sigh, you opened the door and stepped out, closing it softly behind you.
Ran stood leaning against the railing not more than a few feet down the hallway. They glanced up at you, their exposed brow raising in surprise.
“I- I guess we need to reschedule,” you explained quietly. You silently prayed Ran wouldn’t ask why. You had no idea what you’d say. You certainly couldn’t tell them that you and Sevika were doing something so unprofessional in Silco’s office.
Why had you even let that happen?
You knew why. Sevika was incredibly attractive. Everything about her exuded power and charisma. But she also seemed to have this oddly soft side beneath that hard exterior. Both sides of her drew you in.
Thankfully, Ran said nothing. Not a word. It was one time you were actually quite grateful for their typical silence.
The walk to the lift and subsequent ride up to Piltover would have been more awkward than usual had your mind not been swimming with questions, worries, and concerns. You just couldn’t figure out what had gone wrong. Had Sevika regretted her advances?
As Ran opened the lift gate and watched you step out, you promised yourself you would apologize to Sevika for what had happened next time you met with her.
Assuming there would be a next time.

Confused Hatred
AO3 Link
Gekko didn’t understand why you hated his little homies.
Most importantly, he couldn’t understand why his little friends wanted so desperately to be liked by you.
He just couldn’t understand you.
And he hated it.
He hated you by extension, too.
---
When Gekko woke up, he felt refreshed and in an amazing mood.
Today was going to be a good day.
He gently woke up and greeted his little homies, sensing that they, too, were in a positive vibe.
He felt like hardly anything could ruin his day.
He exited his room, immediately going for the kitchen to fix himself a latte, happily greeting Cypher while passing by.
“Well, you seem to be in a good mood,” He observed, a smile in his voice.
“Yeah ! I just woke up, too, so the vibes are just perfect right now,” He answered, nodding enthusiastically as he poured his beverage in his cup.
“Glad to hear it, young friend,” The sentinel said, nodding as well.
His critters noticed something, and suddenly grew more agitated. Wingman almost fell off the counter he was sitting on out of pure excitement.
The initiator caught him just in time, however.
Turning to see the source of the ruckus, he immediately saw you.
Just like that, his bright smile faded away.
You were looking at him and his friends with such disdain and disgust…
It made his blood boil.
Dizzy slowly flew over to you, trying to appear friendly.
Noticing her, your disgust visibly grew and you took a step back.
She wasn't going to abandon just like that, however, continuing to make her way towards your face.
“If you don't stop that thing right now Gekko, I will swat it away,” You warned, glaring at the poor little homie.
At least you were nice enough to warn him…
Gently taking her into his hands, it was his turn to glare at you.
Silently, you held his gaze, as if challenging him, daring him to say anything.
“What the fuck is your problem ?” He questioned, frowning.
He felt rage building inside his chest, hot and almost painful.
“I could ask you the same question. Deadlock has already said that those… Things were better off in a cage. Letting them roam free is a safety hazard for everyone,” You replied coolly, your eyes sharp.
Staring through him and into his soul.
It both freaked him out and made him even angrier.
“They haven't hurt anyone !” He almost shouted, bringing Dizzy – who he was still holding – closer to his chest protectively.
“Yet,” You continued, as if you were an oracle and could tell the future.
Hell, hardly anyone was aware what you were capable of, for all he knew…
He shook his head.
Gekko was giving you way too much credit.
And he wasn't about to ruin his amazing day talking to you.
Grabbing his now finished drink, he turned away from you to face his little friends.
He could sense their curiosity and pure want to befriend you.
It almost overwhelmed him.
If he wasn't already used to it, he would've been, if he were honest.
“C'mon little homies, let's go somewhere peaceful,” He announced, and he felt their disappointment.
You chuckled, dry and hollow.
He felt his cheeks grow hotter due to how much anger he was feeling.
“You do know that nowhere will be “peaceful” with them around, right ?” You questioned, nonchalantly.
He decided for his own good to ignore you, already walking away.
How the initiator allowed you to have that much influence on him was beyond his comprehension.
Slowly sipping his drink, he watched over Iso and Jett playing with his little friends in the lounge fondly.
Why couldn't you just…
He sighed, frustrated, while shaking his head.
He should seriously stop thinking about you.
Maybe he should go for a walk, perhaps that'll clear his mind.
He waited a bit, not wanting to ruin his homies’ fun.
But they all knew him too well, and slowly left the two Asian agents to be by his side.
Mosh was the last one to hop over.
“Let's go for a walk !” He offered happily.
They all cheered.
After all, it wasn't often they could explore the garden and by extension the forest, Gekko being too afraid of them getting lost or eating something they shouldn't have.
He didn't know them as much as he'd like, and he hated that.
What if one fell sick ?
… Or worse ?
He shook those thoughts away.
They had two healers that loved his little friends very much and would do anything for them.
They weren't the only ones feeling that way, too.
Now in a better headspace once again, he went outside, his friends following him close by.
He looked around, admiring the scenery and the peacefulness of nature, following the path towards the garden, which was being taken care of by both Skye and Omen.
He didn’t expect to see anybody there other than those two.
Instead of literally anybody else, he saw you.
He almost groaned in discontent, but then he saw the expression you were wearing.
You didn’t even have your eyes open as you simply listened to the world around you, content.
He noticed a bunny hopping next to you, and some birds curiously observing you very closely.
Even if he hated your guts, he admitted that this scene was…
Peaceful.
Pretty.
When you opened your eyes, he fully expected you to shoo away the animals around you, but instead…
You gently smiled at them, offering them a tiny bit of your food.
He truly couldn’t understand you.
What was so different between his critters and regular animals ?
He could argue that his little homies were more likeable than any animal, since he could at least communicate with them.
Sighing softly, he was turning around when he accidentally stepped on a dry twig that snapped rather loudly…
… Spooking every animal nearby in the process.
He winced, not uttering a single word.
He started making a step away from the whole scene, away from you, but your voice made him stop dead in his tracks.
“Hey,” You spoke up, coldly. “You could at least apologise…” You continued, your tone dry.
Right.
“Sorry about that,” He apologised, not turning to you.
“So on top of being a freak lover, you’re a freak yourself ? Just watching people silently while they’re having a nice time outside ?” You spat, clearly unhappy.
“My homies aren’t freaks !” He exclaimed, whipping his body around to face you.
“So you aren’t denying the other claims ?” You retorted without missing a beat.
“Insult me all you want, but do not come for my friends,” He hissed, using his body to block your view of his little homies.
It was Thrash’s turn to try to get close to you, and she floated her way happily and curiously.
Gekko realised that she was attempting to mimic the movements of a bunny.
He would’ve cooed if this action weren’t to have your good graces, out of everybody’s.
“Get that thing away from me while you’re at it,” You ordered, shifting away from her path.
“I don’t get why you don’t like them and yet like animals,” He muttered, kneeling to get Thrash’s attention.
“Those aren’t animals, that’s why,” You replied as if it was obviously why.
The initiator only scoffed in answer.
He received a notification from his phone.
It was from Brimstone, telling him he was on the mission in the evening.
He smiled, that would mean that he would get away from you for a bit-
“Huh, it seems like I’m on mission duty for tonight…” You mumbled, thoughtful.
He groaned.
The mission brief was simple ; get to Icebox, prevent the Valorant Legion from planting to spike – or diffuse it if they do get it down – and go home.
As to why they needed both him and you on the same mission…
Well, even if it was explained to him multiple times, he still didn’t get it.
… But he also knew that what you were capable of was unknown to him, and since it was the best team composition for this plan…
He sighed.
He felt his critters being agitated, since he was forced to sit right next to you.
He didn’t like being close to you.
It always made him feel… Weird.
He knew why, though.
He still didn’t like the reason at all.
But he remained silent about it.
He didn’t want to let you of all people know how much you influenced his mood.
Or even how he truly felt about you.
He already knew the answer to his question, after all.
Before he realised it, they arrived at Icebox.
Being one of the first to step out of the Falcon, he turned to Sage, the assigned team leader for this mission.
“So… Game plan ? What are you feeling, Sage ?” He asked, trying to sound as jovial as normal.
He wasn’t really feeling it, but at least he could try, right ?
She immediately turned to you.
“Can you hold B site with Gekko ?” She gently questioned, and you met eyes with him.
After holding gazes for a moment, you had a small sigh.
“Sure,” You caved, tearing your gaze away from him.
Stepping out of the aircraft, your cheeks and nose immediately turning a light pink.
He looked away.
He wasn’t looking forward to this mission.
It has now been a few hours since they arrived, the sun long gone and temperatures dropping way below zero.
He had to admit, he was freezing. He thought he’d be fine with just a couple of layers, but the cold was really biting, and he was struggling to hold both his weapon and keep his face warm.
He glanced at you.
You didn’t seem to be having any problems at all.
Steadily holding your angle by Yellow, you didn’t even seem phased by the freezing cold air.
“Hold your angle instead of looking at me,” You said, not tearing your eyes away from Main.
Right, he needed to hold Mid and Tube.
Looking away, he readjusted his grip on his Bulldog.
He was losing the feeling of the tip of his fingers.
“Hey, any updates ?” He questioned into the quiet comm link.
He hated how shaky his voice sounded
“Not yet, however they should be attacking soon,” Answered Sage, her tone even.
He sighed.
“How soon is soon, anywa-” He was cut off by gunshots. “Nevermind,” He continued, immediately running towards you.
“Stay in your position, I got it,” You immediately said when you realised what he was doing.
You managed to put one down, but not without receiving a bullet or two yourself.
He heard footsteps behind him.
Pulling out Dizzy, he threw her out to blind his attackers while getting to cover.
He counted two blinds.
“Someone’s here, too !” He semi-shouted into the comms.
“We are on our way,” Said Neon as he could hear the familiar noise of her running.
She should be here within a couple seconds, then.
As if on cue, Gekko heard her electrified footsteps by Snowman.
Looking over to where you were at, he was surprised to see that you were struggling.
“I’m going to try to get out of this position, cover me if you can,” You announced between two shots.
Wingman immediately went out of his bag and ran towards the enemy he saw, making them look at him instead of you, giving you enough time to run away towards Gekko.
“Can you cover me while I get Dizzy ?” He asked in the heat of the moment.
He didn’t know what he expected from his request.
A refusal, an insult, anything but…
“Sure,” You said, not looking at him.
He was too distracted by the fact that you accepted to realise that you were already shooting to cover him.
It wasn’t until you shouted at him to get his ass moving that he went back to earth, running towards Dizzy’s bubble and picking her up.
He dashed back into cover, only sustaining a couple of light injuries.
Soon enough, Thrash felt ready to be thrown onto the field.
He barely registered what happened next, everything going so fast.
One minute, he was holding Thrash in his palm, the next, she was diving in front of you to take a swarm of bullets that would’ve definitely killed you and turned into her bubble form.
Somehow too stunned to move and to kill the enemy in front of you, the initiator decided to take him down in your stead.
There was no way he would let Thrash’s sacrifice go in vain.
The rest of the gunfight went by.
Bit by bit, the enemy numbers went down, until the last body hit the ground as you shot the mirror agent in the head.
Everybody relaxed and let their guard down as Gekko went around the site to pick up his little homies.
He was exhausted, and he could tell it was the case for the others, too.
When his eyes landed on you, you had an unreadable look on your face as you stared at the body of the Omega Earth agent that almost killed you if Thrash didn’t act that fast.
He wondered what was going through your mind.
Your eyes met.
He held your gaze, unwavering, as he sat up from his kneeling position.
He shivered.
He really should’ve brought an extra coat…
The initiator looked away, already starting to walk towards the Falcon, when he heard another pair of footsteps behind him.
Knowing it was you, he paid it no mind.
He froze when he felt a soft and warm extra layer on his shoulder.
Turning to you, bewildered, he saw how close your two faces were.
Your breaths were merging into one.
You looked away, taking a step back, looking almost… Embarrassed ?
“If you go hypothermic now, Sage will spend too much time with you and neglect everybody else,” You simply justified, walking away as your cheeks got visibly redder.
He decided to blame it on the cold, feeling his own face growing hotter, too.
A few days had passed since that mission, and Gekko could tell you wanted to say something to him.
Every time he was alone, you were looking at him expectantly, sometimes even daring to take a few steps towards him before…
Turning away once your eyes locked in with each other.
He sighed.
You were starting to bug him, if he was honest.
He didn’t mind the distance you took from him, by all means.
… Was it weird that he sorta, just maybe missed the banter ?
…
Probably.
He sighed, frustrated.
He was just chilling on his bed in his room, staring at the ceiling while the little critters were either sleeping or quietly chilling.
What was he going to do with you ?
Should he continue this cycle of hatred that has been going on for months now, or should he attempt for what felt like the umpteenth time to be the bigger person ?
A soft, gentle – almost shy – knock brought him back to earth as well as catching the attention of Wingman and Mosh, the only two still awake.
He didn’t recognise the pattern.
“Come in,” He invited, expecting someone like Sage to enter.
He froze when he saw you, however.
You were wearing one of your gigantic oversized hoodies, definitely too big for your form, hands deep in your pockets.
Wingman immediately ran to greet you, and you tensed, your expression – previously timid and almost apologetic – quickly changing to surprise and wariness.
“Wingman, c’mere. We talked about this,” He recalled the little guy, who for once, listened to him.
You visibly relaxed once he was back at an acceptable distance.
You closed the door behind you.
He guessed you were finally going to commit to what you were attempting to say for the last few days.
Your eyes landed on Thrash.
“How is it ?” You asked almost too quietly for him to hear.
“She’s doing fine, no thanks to you,” He answered coolly, studying you.
Your expression didn’t change as you slowly shifted your eyes from Thrash’s sleeping form to Dizzy’s, then to Wingman and finally… Mosh.
It was as if you were trying to see something.
Whatever you were attempting to find, you didn’t manage to, and you frowned.
“What’s up ?” He questioned, squinting.
He almost got up from his bed to shield them away from your sight.
There was always something with your eyes.
As if you were able to stare into someone’s….
He didn’t know.
But you could see something, and not knowing what made him uneasy.
He heard rumours about your touch, too.
Always brief, always accidental.
But for a short moment, they felt more aware, almost opening a third eye into the future.
“Did I ever tell you why I didn’t like you and your things ?” Your voice brought him back from his thoughts.
He took some time to attempt to remember the reason why, but…
You both started off rather well, but as soon as you met the homies, you had immediately shutted down and started the hating cycle.
“Nah, you never told anybody, or I would know,” He said confidently.
You chuckled.
“A handful of people know, but I asked them to not tell you,” You replied, shifting your weight.
“... Why ?” He questioned, visibly and audibly confused.
“I’m going to tell you now,” You reassured, then sighed. “Don’t freak out, but when I lock eyes with people… I become more aware of them. It’s hard to explain, but I can understand them on a deeper level, know their fears and hopes, hell, even their past sometimes for example,” You explained, refusing to meet his eyes.
Why…
Why were you telling him this ?
“It’s universal for every living thing, radiant or not. But…” You locked eyes with Wingman. “When I look into your things, I don’t see anything. I can’t sense anything, it’s just… Void,” You finally said, rubbing your elbow.
“And that’s why you don’t like them ?” He asked, still confused but… He started to understand.
“Basically,” You sighed. “It just, it freaks me out, man. I don’t wanna find out what happens when I touch them, so I always try to avoid it if I can. So far, I’ve succeeded,” You continued, looking at the floor.
“That explains for the little homies but… Why don’t you like me ?” He enquired, fearing the answer.
“That’s ‘cause I can’t figure you out. I genuinely can’t tell if you wanna gut me or fuck me or even if you hate or love me… Hurts my head, sometimes,” You replied honestly, still not looking at him.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” He denied, feeling his face and ears grow hot.
“Totally not why you’re blushing, too, huh ?” You replied, amused.
He looked at you, and your eyes met.
He remembered what you said earlier, but he knew it was too late.
If you didn’t know before, you certainly knew now.
“You actually love me,” You announced out loud, surprise clear on your face.
He didn’t say anything, bracing for the impact of rejection.
“Here I thought I was alone in this,” You muttered, loud enough for him to hear.
“Huh ?” He intelligently said.
“I love you too, dumbass,” You announced, louder this time.
That was…
“Wild,” He instinctively said, which made you chuckle.
“Indeed,” You confirmed, relaxing.
Sure, everything wasn’t perfect yet, but now that the air was cleared up…
Gekko finally felt like he had a chance with you.
What was he saying, of course he had one.
He was just glad that it wasn’t going to be toxic.
That you were actually trying in this relationship, too.

If someone lets you borrow or carry or touch their disability aid treat it like it's worth it's volume in gold
Or like a soul was sold to obtain that thing
I do not care if it's a cane or a brace or a wheelchair or noise canceling headphones or communication device or even just* a person's main fidget/sensory object
You do not throw it around
Twirl it wildly on your finger
Punch or slam it
Take it without explicit permission
Play with it without explicit permission
Test it without explicit permission
Dirty it
Eat food around or over it(particularly things like sugar doughnuts or greasy food that are messy/staining/hard to clean)
Hold it carelessly
You do
Hold it gently and with care while permitted
Ask before doing anything beyond that
Make sure you don't lose it
Protect it from harm
Keep it in sight of the owner unless told otherwise
Return it as soon as asked
Appreciate the show of trust the person may be displaying in leaving it in your care
If using it thank the person for letting you test or borrow it
Disability aids are not just a person's belongings
Everyone has different boundaries, learn and respect those, because everyone has a different relationship with them
But they are an extension of a person and deeply linked to the functionality of their life
For some people their disability aids are almost comparable to body parts
My headphones might only be headphones to you
But they are a lifeline to me
They literally opened up my world
With them I can go to aquariums and enjoy some restaurants and go to some festivals and so much else
I don't have to worry about auditory stimming
I don't have to argue constantly with people putting me in pain, just sometimes lol
I can actually relax in a way I literally couldn't for the majority of my life
Sure they aren't perfect, they don't block everything out and I can't bring/wear them everywhere
But they're still so much more than a pair of headphones
They're my freedom, my escape, my access to so much of my world
And if someone doesn't return them, or loses them, or breaks them, or damages them, or disrespects them?
Then they hurt or disrespect me as well
*Fidget and sensory objects can actually be a serious deal
They can literally allow a person to be part of traditional society, stop minimize panic attacks/shutdowns/anxiety attacks/meltdowns, hold a job
And can significantly improve quality of life
So unless you know someone's specific deal
don't assume a fidget or sensory objects importance
Also a lot of autistic people and traumatized ND's have emotionally very important comfort items that are often related to sensory objects. Damaging or messing with these can be EXTREMELY distressing for some people. These aren't necessarily disability aids but still, you really shouldn't mess with them
#physical disability#physically disabled#actually autistic#autism#actually adhd#Adhd#actually disabled#disability aids#disability pride month#disabilities#disability#seriously. Respect disabled people and their aids. Or i will send my plush army after you.#And it is not small

HMS Design Explanations Overview
I've decided to break these down into four posts. This is the first one, focusing on an explanation of the strings and sources I draw on my designs in a more baseline way. The next three will focus on Heart, Mind, and Soul.
[Whole will not be receiving one, as he has sources and strings but they are all just Soul, Heart, and Mind's own put together.]
[Explanation under the cut]
Sources are indicative of a third's function, they produce strings which are an extension of this function.
Mind's strings are indicative of thoughts, and can often be small or fleeting, while others will stick around.
Heart's strings are indicative of emotion. As feeling is complicated, many strings are produced in one instance and often derive from any emotion he feels in the moment. They stick around for a while, and some never quite go away.
Soul does not have strings that manifest themselves only inside of his source, or when attached to an alternative self-extension. As a representation of Self-awareness, Memory, and Personhood, he has no real function that can be portrayed through string.
Whole's strings function the same as HMS, though they are all looped together and come from just his one source.
Sources are a crucial part to the construct themself. As the host of their functionality and energy, if it is damaged, that injury is permanent and altering. Some are surface level and not all that visible, others might shatter the source and thus slowly begin to leak out energy and waste away.
This is what happens in Sun Down to Mind. Though he is shot in the neck, like glass, everything cracks and it just barely reaches his source. Thus while he is not dead, he is slowly dying.

Nova’s Notes - DD - May 8th
That’s right, I’m deciding to give my thoughts a cheesy name because why not (also it’s late oops).
So this may be one of my favorite entires of the entire book. My first go-around it was for the mirror-yeet scene (because that’s iconic) and Dracula being The Housekeeper of all timeTM, but now it’s also one of my favorites because of how much we learn about Jonathan.
They say you learn the most about a person when they’re in crisis mode, and while I don’t always think that’s true, Stoker definitely wanted to let Jonathan’s personality shine through here.
From the first passage, he’s literally guessed that Dracula is undead. “I fear I am the only living soul here.” Sure, he might mean that he’s the only present soul, if Dracula’s left the building, but since he describes the mirror yeeting scene right after…idk, I’d like to think he knows way more than we ever gave him credit for. “Clueless Jonathan” who? Is the clueless in the room with us?
Also going back to the first sentence where he describes worrying he was getting too wordy, but now being glad he did…oof. I feel for him here. If my theory is correct that he was initially writing in a more detailed way for Mina so he could remember his travels for later…I’m sure it’s hitting him now that while it may be saving his life that he’s more detailed, it’s so twisted that something he did as a note of affection has soured. I wonder if he’s thinking about how he may never get out of this, or if that hasn’t fully hit him yet.
Moving on to everyone’s favorite mirror-yeet scene, think about how Jonathan reacts when he’s caught off guard by Dracula because he didn’t see his reflection. How would most protagonists react? Probably laugh nervously and brush it off. Attribute it to some mistake on his part, which is exactly what Jonathan does *at first*. But after, he looks at Dracula and then looks back at the mirror to confirm his suspicions are correct, which they are. It’s an interesting moment and not one I think we see often at the beginning of a horror story (I don’t consume much horror though, so correct me if I’m wrong!). Usually, a character won’t get to this level of observation until towards the middle/end, when more supernatural elements have occurred. Jonathan may have second guessed his instincts, but checking them again is what makes him more likely to survive Castle Dracula.
Plus, when Dracula makes a move to attack him, his first instinct is to dodge the attack, showing that he’s not just going to freeze up at the first sign of trouble (which I want to emphasize isn’t a problem normally, but he is dealing with a thousands-of-years-old vampire…so, he has to be quick on his feet to survive).
Afterwards, he says he is annoyed at losing his mirror rather than disturbed, but I saw another post saying he’s repressing his panic as annoying (I’ll link it if I find it again) and I definitely think that’s true!! I can totally see that as his coping mechanism. Plus, compared to the rest of what happens for him today, it really is more of an annoyance than anything else. Would you rather your host throw away your mirror or lock you in a castle?
So after that horrific scene of terror, Jonathan is proactive in searching the castle. After finding a beautiful — but slightly horrifying landscape (you know it’s bad when he doesn’t stop to describe the view) — he decides to explore further, which leads him to figure out almost every other door is locked, including the front one to find, yep you guessed it…he’s a prisoner in the castle.
As I imagine most people would, at first he reacts by frantically running around trying to open locked doors like “a rat does in a trap.” The fact that he admits this in his diary (and, by extension to Mina/us) is admirable because it already shows he’s not afraid to be open about his emotions, even if it makes him look weak (which — unfortunately, he would, considering the time period). Most heroes of this period were expected to accept their fates with stoic determination, but that’s not human and that’s not how Jonathan is, either. We’ve already seen that he’s more open-minded than most English men by accepting the crucifix even if he doesn’t understand it and of course the way he shows his love for Mina is atypical for Victorian men as well. Most men wouldn’t go to the trouble of writing down descriptive notes just to recount it for the benefit of his fiancée later. It’s sad, but true.
Once he’s able to regulate himself a bit, it’s time for thinking and strategy, determining that he needs all of his wits to get through this! Once he sees that the Count does the cooking AND the cleaning, though, is when my love for Jonathan reaches an all-time high. He comes to a series of conclusions most protagonists don’t figure out until the end of a novel after way more obvious clues have been laid out for him and it’s only his 3rd day of being in the castle!! They go as follows:
A) Dracula = servants
B) Dracula = driver
C) Dracula = control wolves
D) Villager’s concern/gifts = this is worse than I thought
E) Crucifix = actual help?
F) Get Dracula to talk about himself (not hard) = find more information, but not in an obvious way
I also love that he questions his own biases about the crucifix he was given!!!! When else do you see an Englishman do that in the 1890s of his own volition (aka without someone snarkily telling him to - see BBC’s Dracula if you want an example). I certainly haven’t!
He also noticed that Drac talked about his “ancestors” as if he had been present for their battles (hmm wonder why that is). Hasn’t quite figured it out yet, but there’s evidence that he doesn’t write something down as a fact until he knows it is a fact, so perhaps we’ll see him write more on this later.
Final thought - his reference to Arabian Nights and Hamlet is significant and tragic, but also relatable. I too like to relate my life to my favorite blorbos, Jonathan!
All in all, we learned that Jonathan is very good in a crisis. He’s not stoic like most protagonists of his time period, but he is instead strategic and observant, willing to play the part of oblivious to keep himself alive another day and keep Dracula’s trust. This is likely what’s keeping him alive right now, as an aggressive approach would get him killed. Dracula is all about playing with his prey and keeping the illusion of benevolent host and willing guest — it’s a game of control for him. Breaking this game would mean it’s no fun and no fun would mean Jonathan is no longer needed….
While I know how this story goes, I’m as excited as first time readers to see how Jonathan plays what is, essentially, 4D chess with Dracula!
