This is my Miku pokemon trainer tier list

For this tier list its both my favorites and what i consider a very good miku design

Of course all of them are good miku designs but some shine above the rest

S tier- my absolute favorites Bug miku is so classy, so well thought out, and i think the brown looks amazing with her teal. Shes everything A close tie with bug miku is Ice miku her hair is everything to me im in complete love with this sharp miku. Water Miku is basic but that's all she needs in lovely simplicity, truly feeling like Miku in this world as a water trainer especially with her tan lines from her original outfit it feels like this is her off time from being an idol! Steel Miku had my heart as soon as I saw her with Jirachi. Which was my favorite pokemon when I was a child [it was prior before i even had any pokemon games of my own and only watched the movies] The colors, the motif of star, the hat and the hair its all wonderful to me!

A tier- Amazingly done concepts and totally miku! Rock Miku's dress and veil is lovely, i love they incorporated the veil as mock pigtails. If this was the verison of her without the dress then she would have been in S tier. I love the jester look but thats my own personal preference. She also reminds me of diance with the dress.

Flying Miku is gorgeous, the wispy hair, the translucent areas to mimic clouds and mist. It's an amazing concept and wonderfully executed design! Fairy miku i know is everyones favorite and it's obvious to see why, shes adorable and cute and I too would love to draw her. She has that appeal to her down to a T. Fighting Miku is something i've been waiting for this whole time. Of course no way they could do a pokemon collab with miku and not include farfetch'd! It's a sleek and simple design that takes traits of the original miku's outfit and tweaks them. Though she does kind of remind me of maka from soul eater just a small bit.

B tier- Great concepts! Electric Miku's lightening pigtails are so cute she looks like a little adventure/farmer of currents. She stands on her own as a design and as a tie to miku. Poison type Miku i would have done the same doing mucky/slime twintails though i probably wouldn't have thought to use the new alolan muk which is a very good look and helps add in the colors. It's a great design and while i wouldve put her in A tier some of her design elements hold me off. This is a top tier character design though trust me Dark Miku, i love she came with obstagoon. Though at first i couldnt even tell if miku had pigtails in the artwork. This reminds me just of a nice miku for a cover of an existing song which is not bad it's just how it feels. Normal type miku has good colors, shes paired with an active singing pokemon and while it's simple I think it conveys miku well enough. Though she keeps reminding me of the oversaturated stereotype of early 90s fashion. now on Ghost miku, shes higher than i'd actually put her but for her concept and simplicity of staying to miku but as a glitched out ghost version of her i do have to give props to that even if i find it more on the plain side. I think they succeeded in what was necessary even though this portrays miku AS the ghost instead of just a ghost trainer. ....honestly now that i type my words i feel like i was right and shouldve stuck with her in C tier.

C tier- too basic for my tastes yet still well done Grass miku is cute and all but if you told me she was unrelated to miku, i could believe you. Just that it'd be a fandom joke to call her 'green miku'

Fire miku, reminds me all too much of the anniversary miku song and im sure thats where they got part of the insipration from it but it doesnt really do much for me combined with the fire aspect and how her hair is shaped. I know its to mimic the pokemon shes with its just personal taste on that one. The silhoutte is good.

Ground type miku i had to keep looking up because i forget what shes supposed to be numerous times. Same case with grass miku, i could see someone telling me shes from x thing and unrelated to miku. I'm just not a fan of the design and colors but it's well done. I know when something is just my subjective taste rather than poorly done.

Dragon miku while i'm not the biggest fan of all the cowlicks going down the twintails i know it's purpose is there to mimic the spiked tail of a traditional dragon and i wouldn't want them removed. I think i especially just don't like the tacked on half shawl cape it feels disjointed. Yet i find its a nice concept they did both an almost knight look for her as dragon as always with the concept of knights and dragons battling. Now the knight trainer is battling with the dragon as comrades.

Psychic type miku- i think they started with the least interesting and noteworthy one honestly. It just looks, kind of uninspired but thats rude to say. I know shes here to fufill the concept of miku as a trainer in pokemon and well it just looks like she's her own trainer class that'd have multiple running around looking the same instead of a stand out like a rival or a gym leader in game.

I don't know if you're doing this still, but I would love if you had some recs for Draco having spent some time at Azkaban. I've read a lot of fics where he returns traumatised and weak and delicate - you know the type, the 8th year healing ones - but only a handful where he's just, simply, jaded. You know, he has this tattoo on his neck that was probably some prison code, and he's cold and haughty but also relatively much more mature and adult.

(Also, reasonably buff draco has me weak in the knees)

Day 21: a thought-provoking fic

When the Rose and the Fire Are One

Harry’s haunted by guilt. Snape’s warded by roses. Each must free the other in order to free himself.

This is the fic that has ingrained itself in my brain more than any other, I think. PI is so clever and this whole world is well considered and fleshed out. 

This story features probably the best original character I’ve seen in fic (Odile, my love). The magic in this story is phenomenal and I’m actually obsessed with it. The magic and history of Spinner’s End, and Severus, and Eileen, has fully become canonized in my brain, I swear to god. The characterizations of Harry and Severus are top tier. The sex is scorching. The emotions are a rollercoaster both exhilarating and terrifying. And the end!!!! Oh god, this is the fic that I think about for days after I read it, wondering what comes after. 

While another of PI’s fics has captured my heart more, this is a close second and captured my mind more. It’s truly a masterwork and I cannot recommend this fic enough to people.

Niemöller, or Four Times When Harry Didn’t Speak Up and then When He Finally Did

When I posted the original version of Masquerade (new version on AO3 | old version on FFN) years ago, someone commented that it reminded them of Niemöller. So of course, I had to look it up and read it, and I fell in love! It really makes you consider an alternate way the world could have gone in the wake of Voldemort’s demise, and veering too hard in the opposite direction of Voldemort and the Death Eaters. It’s all the more real as time goes on and we see how prone our society is to extremes, and how our natural inclinations may be to “over-correct.” 

In the notes Leela linked to this poetic version of a confessional prose from Martin Niemöler, from who this fic gets its name:

The last posted chapter is the worst place to leave off on, only because it was so close smut!!!! You just KNOW that's where chapter 16 would have gone if it had updated.

It hurts my soul a bit because I love this series so much, and so my soul will always be waiting for closure with this story. You know, until the author comes back in a year or two or ten with updates!! (Rec for NoG here.)

This is one of my favorite fics. I don’t generally care for de-aging fics, but this one is exactly what I would hope for. Lots of cute, awkward teenage romance. I love seeing how distrustful and angsty teenage Severus is. And how sweet and dorky Harry is!

Day 26: a fic with an ending you can't stop thinking about

These 2 fics are dark and delicious and AMAZING AND PERFECT AND I’m obsessed and will think about them forever. It also features a line that has lived rent free in my head fOR YEARS.

Day 27: a Muggle AU

Harry's a computer science student, but he needs a writing credit to qualify for an internship. All the writing classes are full, so he ends up in Snape's lit class as a substitute. Snape has a reputation as a hardass, but it can be said that no one passes his class without learning to write, so that meets the requirement, and then, once Harry starts working on that, it turns out they have something else in common.

I nearly recced this fic a handful of times already, for podfic day (JocundaSykes did a terrific narration of this!), comfort fic, and a fic rated G. So when it came time to choose a Muggle AU, I finally had to choose this one! There is still the essence of what I love about Snarry here: a bit of student/teacher (though as unproblematic as can be), with Snape as the mean teacher with a bad reputation, and Harry as the student who is smart and competent in some areas, but not Severus' area. It's a feel good fic that I often return to when I need something light and easy.

Day 28: an underrated fic

A Series of Events

In January, the impossible occurred. It took Severus until April to realize just what that was, and to believe.

Not gonna lie, I don’t know how to gauge what’s “underrated” or “overrated” or “appropriately rated” but I do know that this is a fic I love too much to have no one to talk to about it. It’s like…idk how to explain this fic. It’s niche. It’s unique. It itches.

Okay “it itches” might sound weird, but like…this fic crawled under my skin and randomly reminds me of its presence. It’s not a happy fic, there are no easy answers, it’s all gray and complicated and sad and so real in a way that I’m obsessed with.

Molly’s Advice

After the war, the last thing Severus Snape needs is the memory of a fleeting wartime kiss and a very persistent Harry Potter thwarting his plans to live a peaceful and solitary life. It’s only when Harry’s life is endangered that Severus is finally forced to confront his feelings head on.

This is one of my favorite fics and it does my heart so good! It’s such a lovely love story featuring a Harry who knows what he wants, and a Severus too scared and insecure for his (or Harry’s) own good. Their love here brings me so much joy.

Day 30: a pre-canon fic

Severus Snape and Evan Rosier nurture their shared love of the Dark Arts, and find themselves drawn into Voldemort’s world. Severus is sure he can navigate anything in life, with Evan by his side.

I so thoroughly enjoyed this fic, as a well considered look at how Severus might have come to the Death Eaters. It does my heart good how impressed others were by Severus and his gifts, and how those gifts drew the Dark Lord’s eye. It was good to see his friendship/relationship with Evan Rosier, as well as the other connections Severus makes. There is no real goal to “excuse/forgive” Severus’ choices, but also makes his journey understandable and very real. I really appreciate Lety’s grasp of various characters and showing them in the best and worst ways, which is exactly what I love to see! 

Day 31: a fav amongst favs

The White Road

One day, comfortably set up in the afterlife, Lily Evans Potter switches on the telly and gets hooked on the Harry Potter show.

I’m pretty sure this is the fic I’ve read more than any other, except maybe some of my shorter faves. Maybe. I first read this fic around the time it was first posted, and I’ve reread it at least once a year ever since. It’s TRULY one of the best stories I’ve ever read. Seeing Snarry’s romance unfold from Lily’s POV is incredible, and PI is so masterful in making us feel their great love when we’re not in either of their heads. 

Not to mention Lily’s character here is incredible. She’s spunky and vivacious, but has moments of meanness and vanity. She’s no saintly vision of Lily, but a very human Lily, for all that she’s dead. This is the story that really made me love and appreciate what Lily could be, as more than just Harry’s perfect martyred mother. 

Also this is the fic that gave me a voyeurism kink.

Hi~ if you're interested, here's a scenario for you:

While talking with an acquaintance, the conversation drifts into the topic of anime since they learn you've watched quite a few shows already. They ask you for recommendations and, when pressed for specifics, they say something along the lines of "I don't really have a specific preference." (This is, of course, untrue—everyone has their yays and nays, and maybe this person just doesn't know theirs. Since they're just an acquaintance, you probably wouldn't know either.)

So as you look into their gleaming curious eyes:

What will you consider before giving a recommendation(s)?

What show(s) would you recommend?

(Note: this is entirely for funsies so please feel free to opt out or to take your time! ☺)

Damn this is like my worst nightmare come true 😂 It's so hard to give recommandation because it depends on one's personal taste, but also a person's state of mind (if you don't want to watch a drama because you're not in the mood for it, you won't want to watch a show even if it's the greatest drama ever produced), openess to new experiences, and tolerance to bullshit such as 2nd hand embarrassment/fanservice/anime grunts/etc.

I'm basing this a lot on the weeb/ass/shit scale, which grades anime by the amount of anime/japanese culture knowledge needed to enjoy it, the amount of fanservice, and its overall quality. But within each tier, you could probably create subtiers (genre subtier, trope subtier, music subtier, etc,).

To note: a lot of the recs are series I watched recently or remember at the top of my mind, so there's this bias to consider.

Depending on how well I know my acquaintance and their tastes, I would go like this:

entry level. something which is easily accessed and understood by most people with minimal (to none) anime/Japan culture knowledge: most if not all Studio Ghibli movies, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, maybe Inuyasha (because of like cultural osmosis and its impact on the early 2000s anime scene), Raven of the Inner Palace, Akagami no Shirayukihime, slice of life or introspective shows (such as Sousou no Frieren's first cour, Spy x Family)

slightly above entry level. something which needs a bit of trope/cultural knowledge (like the importance of high school student councils or usual HS/romance/love triangle tropes), but could be appreciated even without because of solid writing/animation and minimal (to none) fanservice/2nd hand embarrassment: Mob Psycho 100, Akatsuki no Yona, Noragami, Skip to Loafer, Kimi ni Todoke, Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion to an extent (with warning about the way the plot goes wild and the fanservice and innuendo between teens and adults), Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, Detective Conan

something which requires a good grasp/recognition of tropes as well as willing to engage and think because of the way the anime is tackling and deconstructing tropes: Princess Tutu, RGU (with a lot of content warnings)

classic shonen vibes (aka fanservice galore, tournament arc/powering up tropes, etc): Kimetsu no Yaiba, early Naruto or Bleach

mindfuck but good: Mononoke, NGE (to an extent)

good/entertaining but the fanservice is going to be a MAJOR turn off: Soul Eater, Ranma 1/2, Lupin III movies/OVAs

You might have noticed but most of the series I've listed are relatively short, about 12-24 episodes (except for Inuyasha, SM, FMA, DetCo, and Ranma which are >100 episodes), since I think recommending a long-running series might scare some people away. That (and/or the pretty important amount of fanservice), is also why I didn't include big 'staples' like Naruto, Bleach, YYH, HXH, etc. regardless of my personal enjoyment or taste.

Most of what I like are fantasy/romances (like SAFT, My Happy Marriage, KamiHaji) or niche shows like Cybersix. I wouldn't recommend these to an acquaintance because of how close these series can be to me and how I don't want to put them up for judgement. I can be a bit defensive of my taste ^^

Thank you for the ask! It wasn't an easy exercise, but one I've been unconsciously doing on my own for a while, so it's nice to finally have it in writing if the need ever occurs!

2023 Goodreads Reading Challenge Tier List!!!

Got The Hardback Special Edition - I don't like these books, I love them. It's not that I need the hardbacks, I need to devour the pages, so I can consume every bit of canon and then go diving into the fandom just to get my next fix (The Locked Tomb by Tamsyn Muir: Gideon the Ninth, Harrow the Ninth, Nona the Ninth)

Place of Honour on my bookshelf - I like these books and feel the need to display the paperbacks on my bookshelf, so guests know I have good taste :3 (Clive Barker - The Hellbound Heart, Agatha Christie - The Murder of Roger Ackroyd & The Thirteen Problems, China Mieville - The Scar, Terry Pratchett - Guards! Guards!)

Worth the E-Book - I'm happy I read these books, even though they were not necessarily in my top 10 this year. I will probably read them again in the future, so I'm happy to own them on my e-reader.

Borrow from your local library - I neither like nor dislike these books, they are perfectly serviceable, but I wouldn't spend money just to own then. (Yoon Ha Lee - Phoenix Extravagant, Frank Herbert - Dune, Dune Messiah & Children of Dune, Final Fantasy - On The Way To A Smile & Traces of Two Pasts, Clive Barker - The Damnation Game & The Coldheart Canyon, Stina Leicht - Persephone Station, Robert Jordan - The Eye of The World, Lily Mayne - Soul Eater, Terry Pratchett, Agatha Christie - The Mirror Crack'd From Side to Side, Terry Pratchett - Sourcery)

Burn for warmth - I actively disliked these books, or they were just so boring I had to take frequent breaks just to get through them (William Joyce - Jack Frost: The End Becomes The Beginning, Greg Weisman - The War of The Spark: Forsaken, Chuck Wendig - Double Dead, Diana Wynee Jones - House of Many Ways, Clive Barker - Weaveworld)

Time for another one of those tag games, thanks to being tagged by @bibliomatsuri. So here's my response “to list 10 of my favorite characters from 10 different fandoms,“ so here I go:

Sanders Sides - Remus Sanders (I love all the dorks but this man has stuck me with THE most pervasive brain rot. As y'all could probably tell. Even though I relate most to Logan/Virgil/Janus... he's just that infectious of a brain goblin, pffft.)

The Umbrella Academy - Klaus Hargreeves. I love that he exudes a similar chaotic energy to Remus. (They're all pretty delightfully dysfunctional people though.)

Encanto - Bruno Madrigal. Another Remus Energy Pick. (Though I relate to Luisa more...)

Final Fantasy (FF6) - Kefka Palazzo. Idec if he's a blatant a Joker Expy. "Dancing Mad" is S-Tier Final Boss Music.

Danny Phantom - There was a hot minute where it was Freakshow (clowns, man)... but now I think it's a toss up between Dark Danny, Clockwork, and Danny. Probably Dark Danny, because TUE was terrifying and the BEST episode, imo. (Though I've kind of related to Jazz and Sam a decent amount.)

Marvel Comics - Spider-man. (It really is a split between Peter and Miles, for me tbh. Also love the Marvel Zombies run so much. And I know Danny was a bit of a Spidey Expy.)

Gravity Falls - Stan Pines or Bill Cipher. For wildly different reasons. :,D (Soos and others were great too.)

Soul Eater - Crona Makenshi. (But Dr. Stein is a runner-up, love mad scientists types.)

Breaking Bad - Skyler or Jesse, probably? (But there's a lot to pick from for interesting characters here. Walt gets to be DELIGHTFULLY punchable as things go along there.)

The Spoony Experiment - Dr. Insano. Mad. Scientist. (In full acknowledgement of how CA/TGWTG/TSE/etc. turned out, it was my first actual active fandom involvement.)

AHHHHHAHHABIDSVFJGFIGGJFDKJK

THIS ISN’T EVEN THAT BIG OF A DEAL BUT ALSO I AM PLEASED

Okay so let’s start with a bit of exposition: I’m not feeling amazing with my whole grad school search right now uhm before today I’d only received 2/4 responses to potential advisor inquiries, and one of the ones who didn’t respond was someone I actually really wanted to talk to bc their projects seem really really dope.  And I woke up today exhausted after after a nightmare (I don’t remember much of it, but it follows the theme of me running late and being lost and frustrated, a common thread in my dreams as a person who rarely dreams), plus it’s the fourth day in a row of cold gloomy rainyness and I’m kind of over it.  I want the sun back.

Anyway, I was not really feeling today as a concept.  But it’s been two days since I contacted an advisor who did not respond, so I had to reach out to the next person on the list, a dude at a very very very impressive university.  We’re talking tippy-top tier.  And that terrified me because I’d hoped to get more practice in with talking to potential advisors before going for this guy.  But alas, he was next on my list, and I didn’t want to let too much time go by without throwing my hat into the ring (I know I’m late, I know, but I’m not too terribly behind), so I did that on my lunch break today.  Told him my availability, gave him my CV, told him I could not meet tomorrow (I had another potential advisor meeting in the morning and a meeting with a rec-writer in the afternoon), and waited.  Impatiently.  I went through two classes, checking my email every half hour.  AND Y’ALL HE RESPONDED!  Almost immediately after my last class let out too lol.  Remember how I said I had a meeting in the afternoon?  Well the guy had to reschedule (which I was initially bummed about but you know?) and potential advisor and I are meeting tomorrow at that time instead.

And, see, this doesn’t really mean much, I know it.  It means he has an opening in his lab, maybe.  He might not’ve read my CV at all.  I don’t really even know the guy, just that people say great thing about him.  And this program is ultra-selective, of course it is, everyone wants a degree from there if they can manage to get in (I don’t actually know if I’d choose to go there over one of the other places on my list though :/).  I’m getting way ahead of myself but I am so happy like I’ve had so many things go awry during this process and it feels amazing when something goes as expected hoped.

Also I now have two potential advisor meetings (plus a volunteer mentoring thing) in short succession tomorrow which is... a lot.  I’m also going to need to draft up some additional emails to send out to another set of potential advisors tomorrow.

In other news, I’ve been playing Snake Eater by Cynthia Harrell nonstop for the past twenty-four hours.  I love the Bond-y-ness.  I love how it feels like it comes right out of 70s soul with the strings and the backup singers.  I love the vocalist to no end.

Crime is the way I fly to you~

I don’t have the slightest clue what the Metal Gear franchise is about (or whether feeding on tree frogs is a legitimate game mechanic) but boy howdy they’ve just about got me hooked.

You know what is funny? I added Minecraft this morning and when I counted the number it was 12. So I was confused on why it wasn't 13 since you said 12. But I looked back at the ask and it said "at least eleven" because at the time I had eleven and knew I was gonna add more (which you can see I did lol)

Like I said, more will just continue to come as I move along! Especially since a lot of the major medias had plenty of characters in it already, I need a lot on the other side with the curses/trolls/glitches (whatever I am calling them) to even things out.

Which is why I keep adding more things like Minecraft, Vocaloid, and Steven Universe. Those medias I can use characters (or concepts of characters) to flesh out the antagonists' side of things. Like it's fine if it would have just been Hanami, Mahito, Jogo, and Dagon with the trolls, but that also feels just underwhelming considering the average person in the Eriverse has some kind of power.

I needed to even the playing field a bit more basically lol (so the protagonists' side has a LOT more people with average base powers, some higher than average like Satoru, while the antagonists' side has a fraction of the numbers but almost every single character there has an enormous amount of power).

What's on the Christmas Music Playlists of the Soul Eater Cast

Do they even celebrate? Who knows! I don't but I have Christmas music stuck in my head so you know what that means!

Maka

All of the children born in Death City grew up with Nightmare before Christmas being THE classic Christmas movie (like Rudolph or Charlie Brown) As such Maka always has Making Christmas as her go to for the season. Also likes Transiberian Orchestra around this time

Soul

Says he can't stand Christmas music but Maka swears she heard piano covers of traditional Christmas songs coming from his room. Has a playlist of pop punk covers of Christmas music queued up every year and says it doesn't count (it does)

Black*Star

Feliz Navidad. No idea why I just know that this is his favorite and I feel very strong vibes about this

Didn't grow up with Christmas so she doesn't know a lot ofnthe classics, but she likes the holiday vibe enough and thinks Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas sounds nice, also really likes Greensleeves and gets away with listening to it all year around because itsnottechnicallyachristmassongdontgetMESTARTED

Also didn't really grow up with Christmas, but its Death City, so he associates Kidnap the Sandy Claws with the season. He also has like 3 different versions of Carol of the Bells for some reason

I can't remember if I've asked you this already or someone else has if so I'm sorry. I'm looking for some anime to watch and wondered if you could reccomend me some of your faves.

Hoo boy, that’s a seriously long list 😂 (please make sure to check them all out if you have any triggers, because some of these are pretty messed up).

One Piece - all time favourite, could not recommend it enough (but be aware you’d have over 1K episodes to catch up on lol).

Fairy Tail - it’s a walking cliché of fanservice and friendship, but by god I love it (also Natsu/Lucy is my all time favourite ship).

Gintama - so weird, so crude, so funny, it’s a comedy/parody anime that may confuse and baffle at times, but a lot of the bigger arcs that follow a linear plot are so good.

Full Metal Alchemist(: Brotherhood) - I’ve watched both versions and Brotherhood was imo superior, but the 2003 version doesn’t slack, so if you’re willing I’d give them both a try (can never get enough FMA is what I’m saying).

Wolf’s Rain - my first anime and the one that led me into the rabbit hole, kind of surprising because I was like 10/11 and this shit was deep.

Bleach - okay, I have a real love/hate with Bleach but you can’t go wrong with everything up to the end of the Soul Society Arc, after that I will take no responsibility lol.

Jujutsu Kaisen - if you haven’t watched this (or read it), you need to go do that now.

Hunter x Hunter - top tier anime, it’s as popular as it is for a reason. The Chimera Ant Arc…yeahhh.

Bungou Stray Dogs - I binge watched every season without issue, kept my focus pretty much the whole time.

Blue Exorcist - many peoples gateway anime, it’s fun, it’s angsty, and it’s not a good idea to trust your favs.

Banana Fish - this fucking manga/anime…(please be warned that there are a lot of triggering scenes and topics involved).

Nanbaka - another parody/comedy anime that smacks you with the feels, seriously it’s a good one.

Akatsuki no Yona - look everyone is really pretty, I want to marry my own Hak, and Yona is a bad bitch (although don’t listen to people screaming about character development, there wasn’t actually a lot lol).
