May 11 - Secret

Thanks for all the wonderful comments, threats, tears and bills for counselling. For those just finding these for the first time, this is a May-long multi-part fic, so there are a whole 10 days of micro-fics to read as well as this! All the other parts can be found here!

Some of you might have noticed the pattern that we're alternating between John and Sherlock. Some of you might also have noticed that they're not travelling in the same direction time-wise. All will be revealed, I hope, at some point before May 31st.

As the door banged shut, announcing Lestrade's departure, Sherlock considered the conversation they had started the evening with. Surely, his closest friend couldn't fail to spot what all the other people in his life knew full well to be the case. It wasn't as if he was keeping it a secret. 

He's lonely. 

For two years, he's lived in the house left to him by his oldest friend all by himself. There is no noise coming from downstairs anymore, no interruptions of tea and chatter. He goes to bed in the oppressive silence and wakes up to the same. And it's killing him. 

Then there are the memories—ghosts of a past self, of laughter and life and fun, of mysteries and excitement. It isn't like that now. John rarely helps with cases anymore. Celebratory takeaway and crap TV are long gone. It's good when John and Rose visit, but they always leave again. The silence swallowing him. 

Sherlock isn't a loner. Ever since his time away, working to single-handedly bring down Moriarty, he's needed company. He might not talk for days on end, but he needs life around him so that he can feel tethered to reality, to know that his sacrifice was worth it, that everyone was saved. 

To know he's home and safe. 

But home is no longer 221b.

Honestly, this is a weird question for the Sherlock Holmes/Jonnlock fans: Have you heard about The Adventure of the Doctor and the Duellist by Elinor Gray?

The synopsis of the book is as it is on the Goodreads page.

While the book is currently out of print, there was a digital version on the John H Watson Society page. However, when I tried using the website's original link, it came up as unavailable. When searching on the John H Watson Society website, the book was part of their Spring 2016 Publication of the Watsonian, which is also unavailable on their website.

The author, Elinor Gray, also has another out-of-print book called Compound a Felony: A Queer Affair of Sherlock Holmes, which I also can't find any online PDF for.

I am honestly curious if anyone here has heard of these works before, and if so, know any PDFs or physical copies I can get a hold of, or are they just considered fandom lost media at this point.

hey do you guys ever think about how sherlock's torture was mostly if not all on his back and the first thing that happened after he got back was john throwing him on his back and beating him up.

do you think about how it must have felt to have those wounds suddenly reopen but his best friend put them there. do you think suddenly he was back in that cold, dark cell but his abuser was the man he loved.

do you think about offscreen john finally finding out about all the torture he went through and hearing the stories and seeing the scars and realizing he reopened them once and added some more when he beat him up in the mortuary. do you think about him never forgiving himself for hurting sherlock like that and not even realizing it when sherlock had already been through hell both in serbia and the one john thought he had put him through ever since he had gotten back to london.... well ok but i do though

Chatted with another fan today and got a lecture on how much ships and other shows I let pass by.

Ok....let's do this like in the support groups I always detested to attend:

I'm Sabrina I'm 43 years old and I only ship Sherlock and John.

No other ship! No other series!

No actors!

Because I love Sherlock and John and I'm perfectly happy and content with it.

These boys saved my life and brought happiness back into it.

And I will definitely not starting to apologise for it!

Been watching old movies lately and came across basil rathbone's sherlock & that awakened in me the remembrance of watching granada holmes, oh, ages ago, as a tween & now I've fell down into my love for Sherlock Holmes again! (acd/Victorian decidedly, no m*ftiss here tyvm)

I. am. obsessed. with Jeremy Brett's version of holmes 😍 he's simply the best screen version there's no question {and the fact that now I know he's bi & nd (I am too!) makes it all the better viewing 💜} - but I also am really enjoying watching burke and hardwicke's portrayals of Watson this time around, I don't think I really took notice of just how well they play our good friend & colleague ☺️ Dr John Watson the first time around and looking kinda hot while doing it, I think.

A reminder that fanfiction is free content that authors are giving you for FREE.

You can dislike it if you want, but don't go asking authors to rewrite their entire stories because their story is not the story you want. If you want to write a headcanon so bad it hurts for you to read it... Then write your own fanfiction but don't come crying because other authors see things another way.

This is not your story.

The story was not written for you especially.

This is an interpretation of a story that you have and might or might not be the one of the author.

You don't get to choose how the author write, that's just rude and it can have a bad impact on some authors who don't ask for your opinion in the first place.

A reminder as well that all fanfiction, even those closer to the canon story, are not canon. They all contain headcanons, they're all reimaginations, and so they're all part of the fanon. All of them. They are all interpretations that may or may not be correct, but can't be validated anyway because it's a headcanon. It's what headcanons do.

No "canon version" of a fanfiction is canon.

There's not one way to write a story, there's not one way to interpret things, especially in a game as vast and rich as Undertale.

The last day

The colour reminds me of the two people I loved more than anything. They wore it quite differently. Our landlady, Mrs. Hudson had a fondness for a more bright hue, while my dear Holmes found a more subtle nuance to fit him. That is to say, he didn’t find out before I bought him that purple dressing gown on our first Christmas here in Sussex.

«My dear boy. This shall be my most treasured item of clothing for the remain of my days,» he said and kissed me tenderly on my forehead.

He admired his attire in the mirror of our bedroom, sliding his large delicate hands over the fabric.

«It’s a good colour on you,» I said with admiration.

«Quite. And to think that I’ve lived this long without knowing it. My dear, John, after all these years you still have the ability to surprise me,» Sherlock murmured and hugged me tight, before finding my waiting lips.

Both of them are gone now, and although I know, as a doctor that it’s impossible, I am slowly dying of heartbreak an longing for my beloved Sherlock Holmes. His bees are missing him too. They are behaving differently at least. I have of course made arrangements for them, to be taken care of.

I am so, so tired tonight. Lying in our bed alone is something I can’t get used to. It is a cold night and I am surrounded by the scent of my sweetheart. The purple dressing gown is wrapped close around me, still bearing a hint of Sherlock’s uniqe aroma. My eyes close and just before I fall asleep, I see my dear Sherlock standing in front of me, his arms outstretched, wearing the purple garment.

«Come, John. I’ve missed you, my dearest,» he says, and seconds later I have him in my arms again.

It's kinda hilarious but mostly sad for me that from the moment I muted the JohnLock tag because I was tired of seeing so-called TLJCers "meta posts" from 8 years ago and was looking in vain for Sherlock fans who had other interests than a non canon ship, I just... Don't see Sherlock related posts anymore? Except for a couple of Adlock and Sherlolly posts, but I don't engage with these ships either so 🤷

I took my Sherlock x OC fic off AO3 because I ended up losing interest. Never did I take off a fic from AO3 after only three chapters! And it wasn't even because it wasn't read: I was actually surprised to see it bookmarked, receive several kudos and even a couple of lovely comments. The kudos were anonymous for most of them but so what. It was nice to see the attention anyways. So it's not a case of "woman bitter because her shitty fanfic wasn't successful". Considering I had only three chapters online, it was a promising start.

Yet, I lost interest because my passion for the show wasn't fed by exchanges with other fans. I mean, I had a few very nice discussions, -I don't want to tag anyone but the three of you I have discussed Sherlock with several times should easily recognize themselves 💜-, but before I muted the JL tag I spent more time scrolling down than anything else. I think it's a shame because there was so much to this show than a ship. With my story I wanted to explore Sherlock's past, uncover a potential trauma caused by something else than Victor Trevor's death, open a discussion about this, about his relationship with his brother, his sister and his parents.... And I KNOW that Sherlock's relationship with John, wether it's considered platonic or not, is very important. I just wish I could find something else to discuss than Sherlock's feelings for X or Y, or his sexuality.

Some could say it's pretty much the same thing for the Hannibal's fandom: there's no doubt that if I muted Hannigram I wouldn't find any Hannigram related posts. Or I'd probably find anti Hannigram posts, ew. The big difference to me is that Will and Hannibal's relationship is at the core of the show. The show is called "Hannibal" but it could just as well be called "Hannibal and Will": even if you don't ship them, take the relationship out of the equation and the show has nothing left to say, like... Literally.

Don't get me wrong, Sherlock without the pair Sherlock/John would probably be crap, but it would still have Sherlock's relationship with his family to cover. And boy there's much to say, imho. While Hannibal has no one else than Will. Will has no one else than Hannibal. That's the story. Also Hannigram is canon. So it makes sense to me that most of the fandom's posts are focused on Will and Hannibal. It hasn't stopped me from starting a pre-Hannigram fic because I'm very intrigued by the professor Lecter had an affair/student Alana Bloom storyline they hinted at in season 2, but I know I won't lost interest in this fandom anytime soon, because I feel fed by it. And this weird/toxic/and yet very romantic relationship between these two weirdos keeps fascinating me, even after four rewatchings! Besides, most Hannibal fans are unhinged which is I must say, a quality I appreciate very much 😁

"Betraying" your fandom

Is it just me, or do other people do this too?

Example:

I saw BBC Sherlock and get infected. I searched for the fandom and have a hyperfixation for a long time. I draw fanart by myself, help others in the fandom, reblog lots of great stuff!

Now, the air is out somehow. I will always love them, I try to see more Sherlock content like Elementary, but it's not the same.

I read in my spare time some fanfics and love them. I can hear them and see them in my mind.

But then, I started a new thing: I played Dragon Age Origins again (I played it years ago as a kid, can't remember it really). And I got infected. I search for the fandom, see lots of art, I'm amazed by it. I got a hyperfixation.

Now I'm feeling like betraying my first fandom, lol. I'm not that active any more, I would love to draw more, but my spare time is small. So I like to play Dragon Age Games, or do some crochet.

But I'm feeling guilty of not being more active here in the Sherlock fandom. I love them, always will, I love this fandom, it's heart-warming. So, is it just me, or do others feel like this too?

Maybe I'm just weird.
