Brokenstar was assumedly and most obviously named for the bent tail he was born with. With his rough characterization, I’d imagine his tail was the source of a lot of doubt and Clan gossip for a while in his youth, and as ShadowClan is so big on personal honor and the good of the group, plus Brokenpaw at the time being so desperate to hear his peers say anything good about him, cuts off his own tail and delivers it to the Clan “as a show of what he’s willing to sacrifice for ShadowClan”.

This wins him the favor of many hardened ShadowClan veterans — but at the same time, deeply worries others. What kind of cat mutilates himself for glory? That isn’t honorable… But Raggedstar names him Brokentail for the display, and is quick to shut down any further rumors of his ward’s honor or what he would do for his Clan.

Later, when Brokenstar rises to power, he orders the same sacrifice of his warriors, yet only the most devoted to him (or the most easily swayed) actually went through with it, as the idea of willingly losing a limb so crucial for balance, and needing to learn how to operate without it, shook even the most grounded warrior.

sorry this is the ONLY discourse ill allow myself to participate in post finale of agatha all along (or i fear i will lose my mind entirely), but DAMN some people out here rn after the finale being like “i’m sorry you didn’t get the agathario smut you wanted” BITCH!!!! I WASNT ASKING FOR THEM TO FUCK ON SCREEN!!!! i didn’t even need them to get together or even get any semblance of a happy ending!!! i didn’t expect a happy ending in the least tbh!!!!! but you know what i did expect? a final ending. a wrap up. a satisfying and complete finale. a conclusion that actually answers any one of my remaining questions or gave us more context for scenes that we’ve been missing context on the entire time. and i’m sorry but this finale didn’t do that at all. and it’s obviously not bury your gays but jesus christ it wasn’t a good conclusion either. at best it’s honestly a cheap set up for a season two or further content with billy that will prob include bits and pieces of agatha
