Things Fallout 3 did better than 4, in my opinion:

Giving every character a canon age

On that note, a game guide revealing all the flirting going on when the player character isn’t looking. (Did you know Greta has a thing with both Carol and Winthrop?)

Dialogue tree instead of wheel. (1. It lets you explore every dialogue option, 2. You can avoid triggering unwanted quest paths without ignoring a character entirely, and 3. Maybe I want Liam Neeson to tell me he’s proud of me more than once, okay?)

Weapons and armor degrading. It keeps caps tight for longer, so there are actual stakes when you forego profit to do the right thing. Also makes looting enemies more fun.

Skills.

Notes and holotapes have their own tab, aren’t in the inventory, and are sorted chronologically.

You can get Rad-X from the health status tab instead of scrolling infinitely in the aid items menu.

The Wasteland’s so empty. In 4, you can’t go very far without running into enemies. In 3, you can watch the scenery and listen to the radio for a good long while before you run into anything. (Though the city does take up less of the map.)

I get that they had to sacrifice this so the settlement building and radiant quests could operate, but I liked it better when you fought through a location, and the location stayed the way you left it, with enemies dead, locks/terminals open, and containers looted. 4 feels more like a fighting game while 3 feels like it’s about exploration.

Followers being able to die. There are benefits to being able to leave them to their own devices, but the extra stakes are more challenging and realistic. (But if followers could die in 4, you’d be able to fail every questline in the game right off the bat, so it’s understandable.)

summary: both maggie and reader are in much need of some warmth during the cold winter months.

notes: inspired from drew barrymore by sza and #64 from this smut prompt list x & i guess this is sort of for kinktober too, so enjoy!

Her tongue rolled in your mouth like it belonged there. Your teeth clashed against each other’s the more entangled the two of you became. Lips becoming raw and breaths becoming ragged.

“I’m so cold,” you whispered breathlessly against her parted mouth when you both managed to come up for air.

It was wintertime again and like every year, that inescapable chill in your bones had set in. All you wanted was to feel warm again. To rid yourself of this ache and this was how. Her skin was like fire when it touched you, setting a blaze to your own. You needed her. Now. Little did you know you both needed one another equally, desperately. The same chill, the same ache, occupied Maggie’s bones all year round and had for years.

“Me too,” she drawled back as she released your bottom lip from between her teeth, pecking it gently after.

The tug of a shirt and the whooshing of pants flying off was all that could be heard for a moment before the resuming of wet kisses and growing, needy whimpers. Two lost souls desperate for the warmth and relief connection could give.

Maggie’s icy fingertips explored up and down your body, finding every spot that made you shiver. Shiver in a way that was not from the cold but felt like fireworks exploding on your skin. A thumb pressed just below your belly button. Your breast being massaged as she kissed you even deeper. Her nails lightly digging into your hips as she gripped you closer on her lap.

Across your sternum and down your stomach her still chilled fingertips trailed, causing you to suck in your breath. Maggie’s eyes followed her own movements until she arrived at the waistband of your underwear. She flicked her eyes back up to meet yours, a half-cocked grin spreading across her face just before she slid her fingers underneath your waistband.

All you could manage was to let out a soft gasp as Maggie’s fingers made contact with your slick folds. The chill of them soon gone and replaced with increased heat between your legs. You bit your lip, nearly drawing blood, when she began using her thumb on your throbbing clit. The ache that once resided in your bones swiftly gone, having moved itself straight to your core. You squirmed around her fingers wanting more. Without even having to say a word, Maggie stopped and rid you of your underwear. Maggie faltered in her movements briefly, letting out a whimper at the touch of her behind. She quickly regained her footing and gazed into your now half lidded eyes as she continued on.

“Just perfect, darlin’. Just… perfect,” she breathed out her answer like it was the release she’d been yearning for all those painful years.

daryl dixon did not undergo a reversal of his season 2 arc, did not learn to accept physical affection, did not learn to verbalise his feelings, did not get to believe in starting over and in the inherent goodness of human beings even in an apocalyptic scenario just for people to forget who the catalyst for all that was. it was beth fucking greene. it was her holding him through the loss of her father and still managing to prioritise his feelings. it was her having a conversation with carol when daryl leaves with merle to eventually going on and understanding daryl on such a deep level that even he is struck when she hugs him after saying 'i'm tired of losing people' and going oh! that's what i meant! that's what i am feeling! finally! i don't have to lay myself open so much as acknowledge the presence of someone else who is right there with me in feeling this exact same thing! daryl dixon did not learn to recognise the value of people just for who they are other than survivors for you to forget that it was beth greene who made him realise it first.
