Ich hatte zwischendurch das Gefühl, den Blick auf den Prompt verloren zu haben, aber uh, ich hoffe es gefällt xD

22. "Do you trust me?" "I don't know." + Cotta/Victor

Es war bereits dunkel, als das Läuten der Türglocke Cotta aus seinem Buch aufschrecken ließ.

Irritiert warf er einen Blick auf die Uhr, dann fiel ihm ein, wer das sein könnte.

Für eine Sekunde war er versucht, sich einfach tot zu stellen.

Doch das wäre ihm feige vorgekommen.

Also stand er auf, ging langsam in den Flur und öffnete die Haustür.

Gegen das Geländer der Veranda gelehnt stand Victor Hugenay in einem eleganten Anzug, ein verführerisches Lächeln auf den Lippen und eine Flasche teuren Wein in der Hand.

Cotta schloss für eine Sekunde die Augen, holte tief Luft und erinnerte sich an seinen Entschluss.

„Nein“, sagte er.

Das Lächeln verlor an Strahlkraft.

„Wie meinst du das?“, hakte Victor nach, verblüfft.

„Nein, du kannst nicht reinkommen“, präzisierte Cotta leise.

Fragend legte Victor den Kopf schief, blinzelte ihn an.

Erneut atmete Cotta tief ein, doch es geriet mehr zu einem Seufzen.

„Ich halte es nicht mehr aus, dass du alle paar Wochen hier hereinschneist, die Nacht mit mir verbringst und dich im Morgengrauen wieder davonstiehlst, und ich mich zwischendrin fragen muss, was du wohl gerade tust und wo du wohl gerade bist und ob ich vielleicht das nächste Mal von dir höre, wenn deine Verhaftung in den Nachrichten ist.“

Es fiel ihm nicht leicht, die Worte auszusprechen, sich verletzlich zu machen, zuzugeben, dass seine Gefühle tiefer gingen als er normalerweise erkennen ließ, doch gleichzeitig war es auch eine Erleichterung, sie endlich losgeworden zu sein.

Ihm gegenüber war Victor ernst geworden, ein ungewöhnlicher Ausdruck auf seinem Gesicht.

„Ich wusste nicht-“, setzte er an, brach ab. Fuhr sich mit einer Hand durch die Haare. „Können wir das vielleicht drinnen besprechen?“

Eine Sekunde lang zögerte Cotta, dann schüttelte er den Kopf. Denn er wusste genau, wenn er Victor hereinließ, dann würde er ins Wanken kommen, dann würde es vermutlich genau so ausgehen, wie es das sonst immer tat.

Die Sehnsucht hatte nicht nachgelassen.

„Und wenn ich verspreche, morgen früh nicht verschwunden zu sein?“, bot Victor an.

Jetzt war es Cotta, der überrascht war, auch wenn er sich alle Mühe gab, es sich nicht anmerken zu lassen.

Er hatte erwartet, dass Victor auf seine Abfuhr reagieren würde, indem er schulterzuckend in die Nacht verschwand.

Aber er wusste auch nicht, ob er sich auf diese Variante einlassen wollte.

Hinter ihm schlug die Uhr im Wohnzimmer elf mal, und er hatte immer noch keine Erwiderung gefunden.

Offenbar dauerte sein Zögern zu lange.

„Vertraust du mir?“, wollte Victor wissen.

Eine aufgeladene Frage. Nicht leicht zu beantworten.

Ein Teil von Cotta schrie Ja, der andere brüllte Nein.

Er landete bei: „Ich weiß es nicht.“

Langsam nickte Victor. Nicht beleidigt – beinahe verständnisvoll.

„Wenn ich mir für ein paar Nächte ein Hotelzimmer nehme“, sagte er, fast abwesend, als würde er nur laut denken, „Darf ich dich dann vielleicht morgen zum Essen einladen und wir unterhalten uns darüber, was wir voneinander wollen?“ Eine Pause. „Bitte?“

Das war das Wort, das Cotta endgültig den Rest gab. So ehrlich, so ernsthaft hatte er es Victor noch nie aussprechen hören.

Er hatte genickt, ehe er sich davon abhalten konnte.

Victor machte zwei Schritte auf ihn zu, vorsichtig kehrte das Lächeln auf sein Gesicht zurück, und Cotta krallte die Hand in den Türrahmen, damit er sie nicht nach ihm ausstreckte.

„Ich rufe dich morgen-“, begann Victor, zögerte dann wieder. So uncharakteristisch für ihn, dass es Cotta weich machte. „Darf ich dich morgen Vormittag anrufen, um zu klären, wann und wo wir uns treffen?“

Cotta rechnete es ihm an, dass er es tatsächlich in eine Frage umformulierte.

Erneut nickte er.

„Dann bis morgen, mon cher“, sagte Victor leise, hauchte ihm einen Kuss auf die Wange, bei dem Cotta ihn an liebsten an sich gezogen und nie wieder losgelassen hätte.

Doch er beherrschte sich, erwiderte nur: „Gute Nacht.“

Und schloss die Tür, bevor er in Versuchung kommen konnte, Victor hinterher zu sehen, während er zu seinem Auto zurückkehrte.

Den Rücken gegen die Tapete des Flurs gelehnt stand Cotta noch eine ganze Weile einfach nur da.

Doch er konnte eine vorsichtige Hoffnung nicht unterdrücken.

Vielleicht gelang es ihnen tatsächlich, dass es zwischen ihnen funktionierte.

That's true! In fact there isn't something clear Abt what Columbus looked like, there is a popular view but if u search Columbus u see a loooot of different old paintings and drawings. Even tho some things about him are clear, nobody will know how he actually looked like

Honestly? I kinda feel like I opened pandora's box and now I can't stop.

I started writing to kinda prove a point to myself? Maybe? Perhaps selfishly, but I thought I could do it better than my friend 😅 (even though in a completely different genre and eh... lets pretend I didn't say that out loud haha...)

Now I'm writing because I've found people who seem to enjoy it 💜

It would've been really easy to get me to stop in the beginning. I almost did multiple times, because I just couldn't get a plot together and I had a really sick baby in and out of the hospital and just, copious life troubles. I was ready to concede that I just wasn't capable of doing this. But I think in the end, all the mess of my life drove me back to writing and keeps doing so.

Even then, I'm not sure what I would've done if I'd gotten shitty feedback from my beta rounds. I think I'm in a good enough place now that if someone told me something sucked, I could fix it, but back then? I'd've just given up and been satisfied with the daydreams living in my head.

*insert smth about how this is why it's really important to be supportive and positively critical of any writer really, but new/young ones especially*

Oh dear, morals. That’s pretty complicated, so this one’s kind of a text wall and I‘m reading it as "which lines would/nt they cross?“

Easier thing first, illegal activities - Yes. All of them. To various degrees of willingness, but none of em got a clean palette lol.

Not even Yel, and he’s what I believe you’d call a "goody two shoes“? His morality is pretty attached to rules compared to the rest of the gang. The only one who would follow rules for morality reasons. Would also beat himself up over accidentally saying something that wasn’t true because he thought it was, cuz lying’s bad. A part of what he thinks he’s refusing to do because of morals is actually because he’s scared of consequences, though. In the incredibly rare circumstances that a) it’s pretty clear that the less "moral“ choice is still the obviously better one, and b) he’s either extremely done with everything or super stressed/scared, would break that moral code. And then feel SO bad about it afterwards for a really long time.

Mage‘s thing is basically "I might be an asshole but even I have standards“, and how high the standard is is directly proportional to how much he’d gain + they like someone + fun it’d be to see them break. Will also often break that moral code in both "good“ and "bad“ direction with no remorse afterwards, though. The moral code does not involve laws, telling the truth, or "taking the higher ground". No "ooh if you do this you’ll be just as bad as them!“ nah. Revenge time even if it means shoveling a grave for both of em.

Red’s moral code is "be good“ and she has pretended not to have a crisis about what that exactly means for the past 4 years. As of rn, it’s at "help people, do good stuff, be kind, heroic, an example for others, but also don’t follow rules if they’re stupid or it’s necessary“. The last one Red 100% knows isn’t something considered "good” at first glance but also doesn’t care, cos between Red and other folks only one actually lived through what it means to be destined to save the world and it wasn’t them. She knows the world isn’t actually in monotone, but will try their best to act with kindness and compassion. (Noticeably, doing something that goes against that is not a break of moral code in Reds eyes as long as it’s "for the others’ own good”.)

Deniz basically goes by:

Does the action hurt anyone (including person doing it)?

Yes -> don’t do it

No -> next question

Is it fun or helpful?

Yes -> do it

No -> next question

Is it necessary?

Yes -> do it

No -> don’t do it

Like. There’s lots of case by case debating with himself if all options kinda suck but that here is pretty much the base for his morals that everything else is going off from

Aaaand then there’s Violet. It’s always been "the greater good justifies all“ for her but also. Has no problem twisting things into seeming for the greater good when they’re just for her benefit. But when that isn’t the case, they’re the same as Deniz (she kinda got it from him, actually.) Violet‘s morals are basically a combo of Deniz and Mage, minus the "falling into the deep end“ tendencies of the latter, but plus "once someone crosses the line they deserve no mercy in that regard“. I do you as you do me and such, only the action done isn’t necessarily the same as the action received.
