Wanted to draw some Ari after seeing her pop up in my notes again and I realized I haven’t shared anything of her updated backstory either sooo

Ari grew up in the Myce equivalent of a sort of religious gated community/ parish under the Ladder’s Jurisdiction. Her father owned a small cattle ranch and she worked on it with him and her brother. Although she’s gained a lot of skills and strength growing up on the farm, there were a lot of restrictions for her. She was forced to grind down her horns all the time, hiding them within her hair.

The parish she grew up in was a series of small isles, connected by canals. The sea walls prevented anything from getting in or out without close inspection from the Necrocorps sentries stationed around the canal gates. From the top of the revetments, Ari could see the Drifting Lights on the horizon; the floating metropolis of the Ladder and where most of their revenue came from selling fungal fibers and leatherwork.

However, Ari found that one of the barriers around the southern beaches of the ranch was faulty during a storm. With growing unrest from the cattle, something had been let inside.

I really need to design animals for husbandry 😅 need some good ungulates.

Also here’s some of her all snazzed up. I like both versions but I feel like the right one is more her personal style if she was going to a show with Heidi or something. With boots like that though she’d end up being like 6’9” lol

Anyway working with Sylvaine has sort of challenged her a bit but opened a lot of veterinary avenues for her. She finds it disturbing but shows interest in what she calls ‘flesh anatomy’ although it’s intensely messier to her compared to fungal anatomy (imagine a doctor that’s uncomfortable with blood). Sylvaine would argue that they’re virtually the same. She also lets Ari raise some animals and plants on the estate because she still enjoys her farm work. It’s mostly for food supplies, or food for Nimbus. She even continues doing fiber-crafts as a hobby. She’s currently working on giant sweaters for Kraw and Durja.

She also has intense thalassophobia, but Kraw and Heidi working with her on it.

i feel like selina would be such a girl mom but also i have this image of damian’s twin being like his opposite. sooo i think the dynamic between her and selina would be fun cause it’s like black sheep & white sheep.

selina would try and teach her the art of stealth and reader would teach her the art of idk friendship?? no but fr i feel like reader and selina would be such a fun duo. bruce’s girls tbh like they team up and they’re unstoppable. also can you imagine the boy advice selina would give? “yeah just steal one of his prized possessions and he’ll come after you. works every time 😏” like okay thanks queen! in terms of like yandere behavior, i feel like she’s one to plant the little seeds of doubt in reader’s mind about others. like “aw sweetie it’s okay, you’re way too good for them! you never do anything wrong 🥹.” meanwhile the person in question is filing for bankruptcy cause their valuables are gone.

barbara is so ‘cool older sister’ coded it’s actually insane. she’s incredibly smart and good with tech, plus she’s really pretty and cool as hell??? reader is like “hiii hello hiii ” and she INSTANTLY becomes her newest role model.

her like ‘yandereness’ would probably be similar to tim’s but instead of trying to keep reader home, she more so just watches her. like if reader wants to go to a party and it’s on a bad corner of town, barbs will give her directions to go to avoid the most trouble. probably the least likely to kill someone tbh i just can’t see her doing it.

okay i know that in the current run helena isn’t biologically related to bruce/selina, butttt idc i want her and the twins to be bio siblings. like it was reader and damian for so long and all of a sudden they get like 8 new siblings? it’d be pretty awkward for a while, but i think reader and helena would both really want a sister. so like while the others are great, i think they bond easy over being Bruce’s blood daughters and what that entails. especially since helena’s mom is catwoman (vigilante) and reader’s mom is talia (assassin).

reader and cassandra they were both raised by assassins so they probably bond over that and then how life is after leaving. it’s canon that cass can speak (which we’ve seen her do) but she uses body language instead of words. with this, i like to think that she can teach reader how to read people easier. you know, as a little bonding activity! also damian is canonically good with music (the violin specifically i believe), so reader is likely the same. so now just imagine reader playing an instrument while cass dances 🙏.

cass’s type of yandere is mostly just watching from the shadows. like reader brings a boyfriend home and cass is in the corner standing like mothman. if anyone does reader wrong TRUST cass will be kicking the hell out of them 🙏🙏.

stephanie, like duke, is the closest to the normal sibling experience one can get 😭 but tbh i see her as being more as a best friend that’s a ‘sister figure.’ plus i like stephcass so screw you that’s canon now. having improvised fashion shows at 4am, gossiping about everything and everyone (which she then tells cass but shhhh), having self care days like that’s her bff! with steph i feel like she’s not the type to actually attack anyone directly, but instead just telling cass and/or tim about whatever (or whoever) it is reader is having problems with. now if they’re patrolling together and reader gets attacked? yeah she’ll beat the other person up! (or at least get a couple hits in if reader already took care of it)

“I think it went well, right?” Robin sits atop the one table you haven’t folded up yet, eating mini brownies right out of the tray. “I mean, plenty of people came, and that one lady said she’ll come to your next one, too. You gave tons of people your info.” 

“Yeah.” You try to sound upbeat, packing away the last of your pieces and joining her on the table. “You’re right, it wasn’t bad.” 

Your girlfriend turns her head to look at you, mouth puckering. “Okay, you say that, but you’re still looking all mopey.” 

“Sorry,” you sigh. “I just wish they’d come.” 

The bridge of her nose wrinkles, pretty eyes squinting distastefully. “Whatever. More brownie bites for us,” she says, popping another one in her mouth. 

You try to laugh, but it’s not very convincing. Robin’s expression creases further. 

“Sorry,” she says around the brownie. Swallows. “Sorry, it’s just, it’s shitty. It is.” She hops down from the table, standing between your knees. Her ringed hands travel up the outsides of your thighs. “You were amazing today. Like, seriously. You were so good at talking to people, and everyone wanted to hear about your art, and they should, because it’s the fucking coolest, you know?” She looks into your face, seemingly to make sure you do know, and she doesn’t push you when you look away. 

“It really sucks that they didn’t get to see it,” she says, so earnestly disappointed it makes the ache of your own heart worsen. 

You twine your arms loosely around her neck, and Robin doesn’t need more urging to hug you, pushing in between your legs as her hands slide up around your lower back. You’re just taller than her like this, her face pushing into your shoulder while your cheek squishes against her hair. She holds you tight around your middle, fingers clutching at your shirt like you’ll disappear if she’s not careful. 

“We should stop going to any of their things,” she mumbles, turning her face into your neck so the words vibrate against your skin. “There are too many birthdays in a year anyway.” 

You laugh, for real this time. “No, I don’t think I’m that mad.” 

“This is the problem,” Robin sighs, though she sounds happier than before. “You’re too nice.” 

“Like you would do any different if you were me.” 

She makes a cute disgruntled sound, hugging you tighter. Something in your chest lightens. “It’s different when it’s you. I have more of a thirst for vengeance.” 

“Sorry.” You turn your face into the crown of her head, lips curving. “I hate to leave you unquenched.” 

Robin’s quiet for a second, thoughtful. “Can I at least make pointed comments about how cool your show was the next time we see them?” 

“I mean, if you really want to.” 

“Oh, I do.”

- has a dedicated social media accounts for his pets. he gets income and sponsorship from luxury pet brands all the time because of it. he doesn’t really care about the money he’s just happy his pets get to have free stuff that give them a better and spoiled life.

- bro’s a gen alpha he’s probably a brainrot humor kind of kid but he hides it well but it comes out at random times

- he’s a dedicated hater, he loved kendrick lamar’s drake diss songs

- his personal/ official Damian Wayne tiktok account is literally just a hate page for his brothers (but in an endearing way he still loves them)

- prefers watching reels over tiktok bcs of the funny comments and the unhinged reels that come out there

- Damian Wayne is a weeb… he was absolutely there during the Anime tiktok lockdown era (if he was even born yet idk) so he knows all the cringe weeb shit.. he quotes it at random times….

- Damian was strictly shoujo mangas and anime but Jon showed him My Hero Academia and he LOVED it. he respects Koda and likes his quirk. MHA was one of the only mangas he read that’s not shoujo lol. (lets ignore the part where there was official damian wayne art where there was a chainsaw man manga with him (i dislike csm))

- he probably did one of those kpop pc decora things out of a printed picture of his fave anime character cough bakugo and tamaki suoh cough (he got influenced by flatline nika)

- he most likely listens to Twice bcs Flatline suggested it to him (this is not bcs I am a once (yes it is))

Batfam:

- to be able to keep up with Brucie Wayne’s diva it boy appearance he occasionally does those derma clinic facials and time to time he invites his kids. Stephanie absolutely is always with him, Cass as well but she’s only there because Steph seems to love it so she’ll always do what Steph loves. It came to a point where Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, Dick Grayson, Duke Thomas started to become pretty boys (Jason is not there he could not stand Brucie persona)

- there has been rumors of Brucie Wayne having a bbl and to prove them all wrong Brucie posted a gym workout where his focus was his ass. lets just say BRUCIE JUICY ASS?? on twitter was trending and the kids HATED it. maybe haha certain heroes liked it a little more than others lmfao

- Damian got hyperfixated on into the spiderverse and across the spiderverse he forced his whole family to rewatch it with him

- Jason got asked to come over to the manor by one of the siblings and took a sneaky pic of his whole body just to put it in one of those “dance if you love your family” ai dancing thing on tiktok. he never came back to the manor….

- Tim and Damian have this online feud in tiktok where they comment unhinge and insulting comments to their public official account each other but ofc its filtered so it can cross the tos. Damian once commented “I hope to see you hanging in the streets” and almost got banned from tiktok

- whenever any of the fam asks something from Cass that she doesn’t wanna do she goes “sorry I’m mute” (she takes advantage of her not so disability) Stephanie taught her that she said it would be funny. it works sometimes bcs the other was probably too tired to notice or just goes along bcs they think Cass learning gen Z humor is funny.

The Jinx & Stan art (thank you for that btw) has me thinking about a full blown crossover now, in either direction. Jinx and Vi spending a summer in Gravity Falls vs what the Mystery Shack would be in Zaun.

No bc I've actually been thinking about this a lot,, I mean, it wouldn't be impossible since alternate dimensions are canon in both franchises. Ermm something something Jinx gets trapped in gravity falls bc of the rift interacting with the arcane maybe?? Then she meets the pines fam and gets along with them surprisingly well

If this took place in post canon arcane I imagine she wouldn't be in the best place mentally, so having a group of friendly people willing to help her get back to her own dimension and also take care of her would probably help a lot. Unfortunately, I don't think she'd be too keen on accepting their help, because she doesn't have a good track record in getting close with anyone without them getting hurt or dying because of her. Maybe that's even what kickstarts her bond with Stan- he asks her why she's so stubborn about accepting help from other people (something he can understand) and she tells him nothing good comes from being close to her. She talks about her family, about how she always messes everything up and how she's learned she can never be anything other than a jinx, and Stan mentally goes "oh, shit."

He doesn't offer her sympathy, or say that he's sorry for what happened. He just looks at her and says that he gets it. Not what she has gone through- God knows he can't even imagine what that is like- but how she feels about herself. I don't know if Jinx would start to become more open after this, but I think she'd find some comfort in knowing that at least someone understands what it's like to believe that everything that's ever happened to you, and anyone close to you, is your own fault- what it's like to believe you were born to be a screw up, a jinx.

The Flashbacks:

Dr. Sammon said at first they planned to have the flashback since ep.2 of DFF. The original plan was the series will run in sequence with the flashbacks inserted along the way but they decided to change to have the first 4 episodes focusing on the present days without the background of the characters. After the past had been revealed in Act 2, the audiences will go back to find any clues left in ep.1-4 to connect the dots.

Non is artistic and New is academic kid. New focused on study so their Mom will not pressure Non, but it strained their relationship, which New plan to amend after returning from England. Non is typical who draw, write, manga etc. That's why the script is important for him. It's the first time someone believe in his ability, he got some friends in the way and also he want to show his parent that he also had something he want to do (art).

NOW FOR THE NEW STUFF: Going to do things a bit differently this time. I'm going to do one of my favorite activities, which is "spin the Warioware Wheel and think about whatever character interactions it spits up"

MONA: Oh this one's easy. Babysitter Supreme. Not only do Kat & Ana think she's cool as fuck but she's also one of the few people in this world that can actually keep up with Kat's energy. Similarly, Mona is the least intimidating of the warioware cast to Ana, and in her presence Ana will thus allow herself to Become Silly. Always has some crazy activities for them to do to the point where she can achieve the impossible task of making Kat tired enough to go to bed

MIKE: Kat gives him a 4/10 because he is difficult to tackle. Ana finds him kind of scary when his eyes light up. However, both of them love karaoke and Penny loves telling them embarrassing secrets about him so they find him quite silly as well

18-VOLT: AW 18-volt. I actually wrote a character interaction between 18 and the twins in warioware camping believe it or not. I think he is great with younger kids and so he gets along great with them, doesn't talk down to them the same way other kids his age might. Kat actually does not attempt to tackle him because she respects him as a peer. Ana thinks he's cool

CRICKET: LOL. Not going to lie, Cricket is a little hard for me to write sometimes because he's such a one-trick pony. But it is funny to imagine the 2 sets of martial-arts characters interacting. I think Kat would be elated to have an "equal" sparring partner, but Cricket would be kind of hesitant to spar with a baby kindergartener. (Kat would of, course, still give him a run for his money.). Ana would be really interested in Cricket's stories about his past journeys and of Master Mantis's fighting skills, all of which she would take at face value

SPITZ: SPITZY! VERY tackleable, but they have opposing opinions on him; Ana thinks he is a cute kitty man, but Kat thinks that he is a stinky cat. Spitz would enjoy talking to Ana and teaching her things, but he would NOTTT be able to keep up with Kat. Of course he cares a lot about them both, but he is simply not qualified to babysit a five-year-old with a sword. Taxi rides with them are similarly chaotic, but don't happen too often anyways.

Favorite Ascendancy Character? Ziinda! I think she has the best character arc. And watching her go from the hothead in Greater Good to the only one able to calm Roscu down in Lesser Evil is just *chefs kiss*.

Favorite Star Wars book / tv show / movie? Sorry chiss fans - the Aftermath Trilogy (and Sinjir Rath Velus and Sid Uddra of course) will always have my heart. THEN it's the Ascendancy Trilogy (Sinjir/Conder OTP <3).

Why (or what) are you contributing to the zine? I'll be writing about Ziinda and probably the Grayshrike fam because they deserve infinitely more love than they usually get <3 (I also named one of my cats after Ziinda :D)

Anywho I had a Tangled thought...

Did you watch Tangled the series and if yes, did you like it?

What are your thoughts on a possible Tangled sequel where they age the characters up a bit like they did with Httyd?

I'd imagine that a time skip where Rapunzel gets to mature as a Princess and where Eugene has to come to terms with his past, as he is a mistrusted future king, would fit the story really well!

Oooooooooooooof....Okay, so, I'm about to say something that many would consider borderline sacrilegious--I did not particularly enjoy the Tangled series.

Now, to be clear, I don't actually think it was bad, per se. I could tell that the people behind it loved and were passionate about the original film (a boon I will never again take for granted after what happened to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings). I adored the art direction and music (no surprise there, since both the art director and composer also worked on the movie). And a lot of the expansions made to the world and characters were genuinely interesting (at least in theory). The problem was that for every one episode that had me going "Oh shoot, this is getting good," I had to sit through at least four episodes of just ....meh. And any time there was an interesting development, I never felt like it was explored enough to actually feel meaningful. I also found Rapunzel's character kind of one-dimensional and boring. It felt like she was never allowed to be wrong or make mistakes. She wasn't allowed to really need her friends, her family, or Eugene, which made the character relationships feel superficial to me. It's possible that the writing improved later on in the series, but I had to stop watching halfway through season 2 because I was just so bored.

As for the possibility of a sequel....I don't know, I kind of think Tangled should just be left alone. It's such a perfectly self-contained movie that adding anything on to it almost feels like bloat. The film's simplicity is what makes it such a masterful adaptation of the original fairy tale to me. I do think there's potential for further interesting character development (like the stuff you suggested--Rapunzel growing as a leader and Eugene dealing with the people's mistrust), but that's not enough to justify an entire movie or tv show, in my opinion. If I were told I had to come up with some kind of sequel to the movie, I think I would just do a mini-series about Rapunzel and Eugene adapting to their new life together over the span of a few years. Maybe have the final episode feature a flash-forward at the end where we get to see their kids (because I am in LOVE with the headcanon that Eugene's narration in the film is actually him telling their story to their children).

brotherhood, if we’re talking anime, but the manga is still the superior version no matter what. best art, best story, best characters, best fight scenes, best EVERYTHING: the pinnacle of what shonen should be. fma made me want to pursue visual storytelling and quite honestly changed the course of my life. could talk about it forever. cannot recommend it enough. riza hawkeye best character forever and ever.

second favorite series ever: ouran highschool host club

once again, the anime is decent but the manga is where it’s at. ohshc subverts classic shojo tropes while also playing into them and i love love love it for that. i recently reread it and was delighted to find that it still holds up for the most part. makes me scream with laughter and i cannot choose a favorite character (mouri best host tho). it was also just super ahead of its time. hilarious while also being heartfelt and genuine. greatest love confession scene in the history of the world.

maomao MAKES👏THIS👏SERIES, i love her SO MUCH. this series has taken over my life. i watched the anime over and over and when i got tired of that, i read the manga over and over, and when i ran out of that, i began READING THE LIGHT NOVELS which i NEVER DO. i read nearly all of the light novels over the course of a week while i was super sick and coughing my lungs inside out, but it was a good time. i still actively read the english translations of the light novel chapters they come out and it honestly makes me week every time. also gaoshun is my favorite character and i would marry him SO fast.

if i had to describe this series in one word, it would be nostalgia. that may be because it was the second series i ever read as a kid, but it also just FEELS like blurry summer days and childhood friends you’ve nearly forgotten about. also manga natsume is way more fine that anime natsume. i can’t believe they changed his hair color >:(

detective conan

…or “case closed” as they call it in the united states. i have a lot of contempt for series that drag on for forever in the sake of making money but lemme tell you, early conan was GOOD. it was gory and dark and sometimes kinda scary but it was also a little goofy and cheesy. throwback to the early volumes when conan rode a large dog to rescue a kidnapped girl and also held the hand of a dying woman covered in blood as he told her his true name. you don’t get stuff like that anymore because the show’s demographic is getting younger. but i miss the days when people were getting decapitated via roller coaster. i stick with it for sentimental reasons because i’ve watched/read it since i was a tween. i also own the first 80 volumes of the english manga and named my cat Osaka aftwd heiji hattori. also kaito kid sucks and i hate him.

uuh LOL i think i basically spilled the beans on all of it OOPS but just in case i will resummarize

XY and AQ are full sibs in the songxiao adoption AU, whereas in the threads that bind us, they're half. their parents died in a fire that broke out in their apartment complex, which was ruled an accident, but XY swears he saw someone leave in a hurry before the flames were truly spreading. he pulled AQ out of the fire and burned his hands as a result.

AQ has a green scarf that she never takes off, even when it's sweltering. XY bought it for her before she was born because he knew she'd be a spring baby and didn't want her to be chilly. he laid it over her when he saw her for the first time (he was 6.)

SL and XXC at the start of the AU are Just Very Good Friends who live together. they are both teachers (each specializes in a different area, iirc SL is like history n maths and XXC is literature n maybe... arts and crafts... hehe) who volunteer at the orphanage AQ ends up in when XY gets taken to juvie. they take to her immediately and pretend to be a couple in order to adopt her. she is a feisty child with serious anger issues but she finds comfort in them where she has none. it still takes her years to call them Dad, however.

XUN IS IN IT. You know this because I've written you fics set in this AU! LOL he and MXY are XY's only friends in school and he is 100% the reason XY attends. he's asked by their teacher to show the new kid around the school and Xun gently holds his BAD ICKY HAND that he has trauma about and he's like welp. i don't want to blow everything up, maybe i'll bother showing up to school more often. definitely not to repay the debt of kindness my sister's new parents have so graciously handed me here

XY is NOT comfortable with the idea of a new family and is very protective of the idea of it just being him and AQ.

Facts about my MDHM version of DD!

●shes actually in protective services! she's actually my ybf version of DD except if she was able to escape peter before he got too choppy choppy with her. her fake name is Destiny Lee, but she still goes by DD too those she trusts..especially since she has trouble remembering her fake name

●Her nickname for alan is "star boy" or "shiny" when she's feeling really silly! mostly because his eyes remind her of gemstones

●DD is a rapid day-dreamer, mentally escaping the world to the point where it becomes dangerous. she does it while she's eating, walking, talking, and even alone when she's just chilling. it could be quite creepy when she does it cause she tends to have that 1000 yard stare when she does zone out like that.

●When DD has energy and doesn't have to go to collage or work, she tends to like to dress up a lot (like the full body photo in the ref) and walk off into the woods, almost pretending she's a silly little forest fairy for shits and giggles.

●DD is often seen as childish from strangers or new people she meets due to her bubbly, sweet yet kind of shy personality, also because of her honesty and almost..mental fog? but she's like that since its a way of escapism for her since she gets stressed out very easily and its also due to a variation of mental health problems. which is why she tends to seem pretty childish or dumb to people that don't know her very well.

●The only strong part of her body is her thighs, she won a strength competition between her and stu, stu won in upper body strength and her in lower body strength! she was able to make a watermelon explode with just pressure of her thighs! the prize was 100$ too see who was the most strongest...they both got 50$ since it was technically a tie...but she still counts it as a win

Same year as Tonys death, and the most interesting new cast member to note would be Lucia; now 21 and part of the Mega Pizzaplex' security team, investigating the strange disappearances that she believes to be connected to the Mimic. -Welcome to Balloon Circus/#Fnaf Welcome to Balloon Circus: 3 star fam return to the Pizzaplex lot 3 years after Ruin to fix M.X.E.S after they suddenly shut down, and upon arrival, instead find a giant circus. There's a big post with a poster and TONS of information here if you're interested!! -Quests Continuation/#Fnaf Quest Continuation: takes place after the Disassembled Ending. Gregory quite literally stumbles into another Pizzaplex unlike the one from SB, now much smaller with uncorrupted animatronics, Bonnie as one of the band members, Foxy still around, and no security guards out to get him. He hesitantly accepts the band members help in finding his old friend, Cassie, so he can be reunited with her and not keep living on the streets, because after finding him for the first time, the band members are VERY adamant that he cannot go back to that living situation, considering the terrible condition he was in. -Endpoint Security/#Fnaf Endpoint Security: Security Breach swap AU featuring newly uninfected Vanessa as the protagonist and a very much so still infected Dr. Rabbit as the antagonist. Vanessa, barely even remembering having this job and now locked in the Pizzaplex until 6am without any of her keycards or tools, is now accompanied by Dr. Rabbit talking to her through her new fazwatch as she goes on a scavenger hunt he set up just for her to find her keycards and tools to help her survive the night until the doors open, though Dr. Rabbit makes it clear that 6am won't be the end of this shift for her. -Back at it again/#Fnaf Back at it Again: Post PQ ending. Vanessa keeps her job as head of security and Gregory takes up an internship as a security guard, position secured by Vanessa’s recommendation, and the two use their job ranks to continue looking into the mysteries of the Pizzaplex and put Mimic to an end once and for all, aaas well as steal whatever they need to take care of Freddy back home when no one's looking. -Painted Tears Trilogy/#Fnaf Painted Tears Trilogy: Silver Eyes Trilogy inspired AU centering around the MCI looking into the disappearances of Charlotte Emily and Evan Afton, two of their now missing childhood best friends.
