"xiao lanhua we cannot follow that trail, come on."

"i have to assume so. i think he knows i'd kill them myself if they figured out the portals here and she didn't fill me in on any of the updates." sophie was trying to be positive, to find some of the humor in this whole scenario, because if they allowed themself to fall into that fear again.. they couldn't keep worrying, especially if howl had found themself as a genie again, there was simply nothing sophie could do about it. and that was almost harder than if he just forgot. if his memories were gone, sophie could jog them back, could do anything if they could just see him. sophie looked over at their friend, seeing the look on their face as she explained the whole situation, unable to stop herself from laughing a little. "okay, i know how insane it sounds. oddly enough, it's not the only time howl has transformed herself, this time was just against their control." she explained, nodding. "i don't really know what the genie looks like either. but if someone has a magic bottle they're carrying around, that would be a good clue. thank you, for everything."

"i don't think there'd be a high chance of there being a sudden success. it seems completely impossible to manage something like that, and i'm sure if they'd been getting close to doing the impossible, she'd have told you." and with how in love the two are, she certainly can't imagine the two of them not communicating to the level that would end with howl going missing with sophie having no idea what could possibly have happened to him. "i know you wouldn't." she couldn't imagine what they'd do if dongfang qingcang vanished out of nowhere, without a word or a trace. she'd have no idea what to do, and they'd certainly be handling it far worse than sophie would. xiao lanhua simply nods, her eyes wide at the story sophie is sharing. she'd been turned into a cat? because it had been a way to save her from danger? and they were incapable of seeing howl if this was what had happened to her? "i- that's really... wow. i can try to look, if i can? i don't quite know what a genie looks like, but i'm sure i'd be able to figure it out."

i'm doing something a little different for my event prep-- because i'm on hiatus the rest of the month, i don't really have the ability to do much reaching out to plot (though if you pop into my dms unprompted to plot, feel free, as i'll definitely get back to you to chat when i'm able) and i need to make sure i keep my threads to a manageable number. but i still want to be able to be active during the event when i can! especially since other threads will be paused!

so below is my list of event threads; i'm limiting myself to 3ish per character for the time being with the understanding that i'm also willing to stretch it to more if there's pairings i really want to write for.

if you want me to write a starter, please request one below (limit 2 per member for now, please). i probably won't pre-plot with you much but i'll roll for the situation on my end as soon as u request them & add that info below so you have a general idea of what the conflict in the thread will be.

**and then this is the untraditional part of the starter call: there's obviously no obligation, but if you want to volunteer to write any starter(s) for a pairing, please also feel free to let me know below, so i can add that to my total thread count. i would love that. i likely won't be going through your starter calls to request things, not because i don't want to write with you all, but because i don't want to impose when there's a high chance i won't be around as much as usual

i'll also note that i don't think i'll be killing off any of my characters during this event, even temporarily, and if you want to kill off any of your muses, i'd honestly prefer you do it in a thread that's not with one of mine, but if you feel really strongly about it, we can definitely plot, i just need a heads up. thank u for understanding!

valentines minievent masquerade ball starter call!

i'm limiting each to only a few starters but may add more slots later. i tried to include some baisc information about what everyone is doing, though this is not technically a ~plotting~ call. but if you want to plot beforehand, just send me a dm-- otherwise, if you request a starter, i'll take a look at your plotting/starter call and just come up with something that seems like it'd make sense. please only request 3-4 total starters, since i have limited characters and want to make sure i can write with everyone! thanks for your consideration!

wei wuxian-- going with lan wangji! he's going to be dragging his husband lan zhan around the museum to see absolutely everything, and he'll spend a good deal of the night on the dance floor, too. last valentines day was a disaster, so he's looking forward to having a nice time for once, without worrying. he's very naturally chatty, so if your muse needs someone to talk with, he's right there. wei wuxian starters for wen qing (kasey), jiang yanli (aria), ??-- (2/3)

"well, i told him he could have control back if he was nice to me, so i think he took that as saying please. i was so sure it caused him physical pain to utter the word, i'm not surprised he never said it before... are you sure he won't be upset if i see him again? we have not gotten off to a great start."

"if he does, he'll spend the next month hopped up on energy drinks and getting pricked by quite literally every thorny plant i touch, and he knows it." even if he's still... like that, he surely knows by now how frustrating they have the potential to be in his life if he pisses her off too much. and he absolutely knows that hurting sophie would piss her off. the fairy laughs aloud at the odd little pantomime of whatever dongfang qingcang had done during their odd little curse. Logically, it should be obvious that they don't live every second of her life at the flower shop-- it's closed often enough, and he's stopped by when it is open without Sophie there before. But it's still odd to see Xiao Lanhua's friend out-and-about without prior warning, he thinks. He glances left and right, wrinkling his nose. "Is your... child also here?"

"What do you mean you have 'nothing to say'?" he demands. "Did you not tell Xiao Lanhua how we found them?" He'd been counting on the other to tell the fairy the truth and support his explanation that the reason she has no memories of him-- or their home, or correct memories of herself-- is because she had died. Two people's words, especially from one whom Xiao Lanhua actually seems to remember, would surely convince them better than Dongfang Qingcang's word alone, as he's made little progress that way.

"that's not always easy. i don't really like the attention on me all that much." even when she'd become someone that everyone knew, everyone looked at, she still found herself shying away from being stared at most of the time. "i have been better about living how i want, though." they'd taken that to an extreme, admittedly, but most things they did tended to be with her whole being.

“Lots of… flowers,” he comments stiffly, eyes roaming the room. Because it is objectively true, there are many here, which he was already well aware of from the many other times he’s visited this very shop. But what else is Dongfang Qingcang meant to comment on, the decor of the holiday party? The decorations are both unnecessary and eyesores in his opinion, and that won’t win him anything but an earful from Xiao Lanhua about being rude to her friends again, he imagines… When is this gathering meant to be over? He’s never been so sure that time can purposefully slow down as he is when he’s meant to socialize with people he would rather willfully ignore. He sighs, endlessly suffering as he wishes for Xiao Lanhua to return from whatever less important conversation they’re having on the other side of the room.

He doesn’t want anything to happen to the people he cares about-- Hua Cheng, Mu Qing and Feng Xin, Qingxuan, his mother, Gu Zi, Xiao Lanhua, Sophie... the list goes on and on. But even the people of the city who he doesn’t know personally, the people who he only sees in passing at the flower shop counter or sharing a seat on the bus, or even people he’s never met: none of them should have to suffer and die without cause, either. "There’s got to be some trace of who’s doing this, if we could just find it. If you don’t want to come and investigate with me, I won’t blame you," he says truthfully, "Though I would like you to come. But I thought I should at least let someone know where I’m going."

"fairies and alternate universes? i think he might be more than just a little strange if he thinks all of that could be real. that sounds like he's more confused than we think." they felt bad, lying to their friend, having to play along so that sophie wouldn't scare them more.. but they couldn't be the one to worry her. not when this seemed to already be causing her stress, sophie wasn't going to be the one to add to it now. "xie lian should be leaving about the same time as you, i'm sure he would be more than happy to walk you home. i can even join you both, that way none of us are on our own for long." they were mentally cursing xiao lanhua's partner as she continued, hearing that he mention killing people-- what in the hell was he thinking? what good did it do to tell her such things. "he.. he told you he killed someone? recently? but still asked for your help? i don't think it's safe for you to be around someone who admits to such.. heinous things, he seems dangerous." they'd need to talk to him, to tell him to tone it down. hopefully after he apologized, sophie could help ease into trusting him once they 'learned more about him'.

"i know it's stupid, trust me, he had this whole elaborate story about fairies and another universe we both come from. but he was so insistent, like i don't think he would've let me leave if i didn't agree to at least consider it." not that he really seemed like he had wanted to hurt her at the time, but sophie's lack of any recognition or knowledge of this story was making it seem more likely that maybe dongfang qingcang was actually dangerous. "honestly, i might ask xie lian to go home with me, or text jesper or something. i don't really want to call the police, he was asking me for help, too, and part of me wanted to, but he did also say that he kills people. like, has killed someone in the last few weeks, so i'm definitely considering it."
