What are your fanfics recommendations for SOA? (if you have any)
Hmm I’m not much of a fanfic reader BUT a friend of mine recommended me an SOA fic a few years ago, which I reluctantly read but ended up loving. It’s about Tara and Jax (and Opie and Donna) in high school. I don’t remember the details but I do remember thinking what a great job the author did with writing about their past based on the very limited info that the show gave us.
Everyone’s in character and even SAMCRO play a prominent part in it even though it’s primarily a Jax and Tara story. It has a great mix of humor, nostalgia, emotion, and even a bit of heartbreak and it’s so true to the SOA lore that there’s no reason for the fans/readers to think that that’s not what happened 11 years prior.
Anyway, I highly recommend checking it out. It’s called ‘Beginnings’ and you can read it here <3

I’d like to add my perspective on this glorious answer, please 🫡
Excuse me, but those comments are absolutely ridiculous and absurd. You don’t have to like Tara. Hell, you can hate her all you want but thinking that Jax lost feelings towards her and felt trapped and forced to be with her is insane.
Saying that in S3 Jax stayed with her only out of obligation and lost all his love for her when the guy literally and canonically opens his marriage proposal (which is in S4, mind you) to her by saying that he loves her and has loved her since he was 16 is a deliberate misreading of their relationship, struggles, dilemmas and just their entire arc. It’s either that or those people watched a completely different show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why would you say this to the woman that you’re with only out of obligation?
I have to laugh!
Here’s more:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and more:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and a bonus:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s the takeaway:
Jax desperately wanted Tara to be his way out and even believed so. If it weren’t for Opie’s death and the personality switch that it had on Jax, he would’ve gotten the fuck outta charming at the first opportunity.
Jax and Tara always loved each other. Even when they should’ve hated each other. As twisted as it is even Jax’s cheating stems from the false conviction that Tara doesn’t love or want him anymore due to her refusal to speak to him in prison and have him in court.
Even after Tara’s “betrayal” Jax still managed to see reason, turned himself in and gave up his freedom so she could have hers. And if that’s not enough, the dude sobbed his eyes and insides out when he found her body and turned Charming into a literal war zone to avenge her. If this doesn’t prove his undying love for her than I don’t fucking know what does.
Some people willfully misinterpret Jax and Tara’s entire relationship in order to find more excuses and room to further villainize and dehumanize Tara and discredit her agency. Yes, their relationship was a rollercoaster but it was never a question of whether they loved each other. I feel fucking stupid even having to explain this to people.
Hey so I marked out the username/icon of the commenters bc I didn’t want to seem like I was attacking them or calling them out specifically but I wanted to know your opinion on this take.
I don’t know how much I agree with it. I don’t think Tara was stupid I just think she got caught up with Jax just as he gets caught up with her. And I don’t think he ever stopped loving her or it ever became obligation but I think in season 6 (at the beginning at least) it was a little more rooted in habit than anything else. And that she didn’t “think she was better than everyone else”… she was and I think that was the whole point of her character was that even a doctor with higher moral grounds can lose her way in this lifestyle.
What do you think?

Well I say it in my first real analysis of SOA:
Tumblr media
If you don't believe their love then pretty much everything regarding her decisions and a lot of Jax's decisions aren't going to make sense to you.
Because the issue I have with this take is why would kurt sutter build so much of his show around a relationship where from season 3 on Jax is only around out of obligation? That doesn't make sense. Jax's struggle is his love for Tara pit against his love for the club. That's literally the entire point. So this just seems like people creating reasons for things happening because they don't like the actual reasons why things happened. Saying Jax only stayed around because he found out Tara was pregnant and he felt bad she was kidnapped ... when Opie cheats on Lila with Ima and asks Jax how he got a pass he says Tara getting pregnant and kidnapped wiped the slate clean which actually means that Tara was the one who forgave his bullshit not the other way around.
Also saying that he pushed her away because he blamed her for Abel is wilful misinterpretation of what's happening. Jax was in a volatile mindset and things were just going to get more and more violent and he didn't want her there for that...he SAYS that to Opie. He's like if you could've saved Donna by acting like a dick wouldn't you? There is nothing to suggest in canon that Jax blamed Tara for what happened to Abel and if he did blame her then I think that would be apparent. He would just tell her. She brings it up at least twice. At the very least he could agree. What better way to push her away than to be like because of you my kid is missing. Gemma said it. Why wouldn't he? Because that wasn't the point.
In terms of the letters...the whole point was that Jax promised that he was going to get out of the Life and Tara feared that if she gave him the letters it would just throw him in deeper and she didn't want that to happen. I think that's pretty self-explanatory.
And again the reason why she stayed is because she loved Jax and believed he could save SAMCRO and then leave with her and their boys. You just have to believe it
Tumblr media
In terms of Tara thinking that she's better than everyone else there are times when she shows a sense of superiority which is why Lila calls her a stuck up bitch but she never claims the moral high ground and she never claimed to know "so much" she just claimed that she was smarter than Gemma. Also when I read the interpretation that she didn't care to get out until she had her own kid I was like lmao Gemma is that you? That interpretation also doesn't make sense to me because she was pregnant with Thomas when she was kidnapped so if she only cared about her biological child or cared about her biological child more than Abel then she would've left then. Gemma nearly kills Thomas (and Abel) when she gets in a car wreck she could've left then if it was just about Thomas. The point was that Jax was clearly not getting out of the club and not turning the club around and when her career was jeopardized and she found herself in prison she realized that if she kept up with this life then her kids would be raised by Gemma and she didn't want that.

Jax Teller & Opie Winston ↳ chapter one
His best friend chews his gum as if he’s deep in thought. Then he playfully nods at the pocket in which Jax is keeping the condoms he got. “Who’s to say that her future won’t be even bigger with you? Extra large coming through.”

OK, so here is my rationale for why I think Jax was pleased when Tara beat up Colette lol. In season two when Gemma and Tara talk about ima and how Tara needs to “educate” her/other women Tara says that her “fighting days” are over. This to me implies that she fought women in the past over Jax. Then, when tara and ima face off Jax's reaction can be interpreted as smug and cocky. I think he likes the idea of Tara being territorial over him because to him it suggests that she wants him. In season six Jax was upset that Tara didn’t want to see him when she was in prison, and that led him to sleep with Colette.  After he found out about Tara‘s plan to divorce him his fear that she doesn't want him was confirmed. When Tara beats up Colette, he’s smug because it reassures him that Tara does want him. Season six lacked a lot of intimacy between Jax and Tara, for the majority of the season, Jax believed Tara didn’t want him. He even realizes that she’s not saying I love you back to him. Tara beating up Colette tells Jax in some twisted way that she still wants him. That's how I always interpreted Jax's smugness in that scene.
Okay so, I rewatched that scene like 4 times before writing this just to be sure about my answer lol. I absolutely love your theory and within the lore of the show it works really well and makes a lot of sense so I see no reason why your theory would't be an actual fact.
I personally never interpreted that scene that way. Not when I saw it for the first time and not after that. If anything, I always thought that Colette's beat up was more of a reassurance for me than it was for Jax lmao. When I first watched I literally let out this massive sigh of relief cause it confirmed for me that she still loved him.
While I believe that Tara beating that woman up definitely played a role in Jax’s seeing that she still loved him, upon my present rewatch, I saw no pleasure on that asshole’s face whatsoever I’m SORRY😭
He definitely looks smug and defiant when he first sees Tara by the door and I stand by my initial interpretation of that facial expression but I don’t see him being pleased with anything that happens after that.
However, as I said, you theory works really well given the storylines and I see no reason why that couldn’t be the truth. If I had interpreted that scene like you from the very beginning, it definitely would’ve spared me that uncontrollable anxiety and disgust that comes with it lol ❤️
