HEY ALL!!! If you haven't heard, Unity is gonna start charging devs 20 cents per download. Not per sale, but PER DOWNLOAD. This applies to not only big-name games like Hollow Knight and Ori, but also smaller projects that might be free. This includes mobile games made with Unity, Undertale fan games like Undertale Yellow and Deltatraveler, and also, get this: Murder of Sonic! It was made in Unity, and so far, it's still free, but Sega's gonna hafta start charging for it sooner or later- IF they don't decide to take it down completely.
So, on this note, I have 2 things to say:
Get your favorite games NOW. Some devs, like Team Cherry, are talking about "taking their games down" (so much for Silksong- thanks A LOT, Unity!!!). I don't know if that means you'll still be able to play these games- like on Steam, for instance- if you already have them downloaded.
Please, please, PLEASE, support those games that are made with Unity. 20 cents adds up when there's a million downloads, and if it's like a mobile game, where people don't necessarily have to pay for it, that's going to COST the devs money- a LOT of money. I know we all hate the paywalls and "pay-to-win" schemes in mobile games, but let's be real- crap like this Unity thing are the whole reason those paywalls exist! These devs aren't doing this for free, they're trying to make a living! Even if you only spend $1, only 1 time, that is STILL going to be an 80 cent profit over the new Unity costs, and maybe, just maybe, give some game devs enough incentive to keep the game around.
I know Unity has a bad rep because it's easy to use and allows devs to release games that control poorly because you don't have to be good at coding to do it (*cough* Guardian of Lore *cough*). That's why I haven't used Unity, despite having several game ideas in my head, because I don't know how to code (yet), and I didn't want to release a game like that- and now I never will use Unity. But games like all the ones I've mentioned are proof that Unity CAN be used for good games, in the right hands. So please, if you love a game made with Unity, please support it, so the game doesn't go away. Don't send the devs into bankruptcy just because Unity is a money-grubbing so-and-so.
(Oh, I should also mention, for browser-based games, apparently this "per download" thing also includes "per BROWSER REFRESH". So, yeah, please don't blame the devs, support the devs and blame Unity.)
EDIT: It's not quite as bad as I'd thought. I knew Unity had a threshold, but I thought it was an either/or thing- either a certain number of downloads, or a certain amount of money made from a game. And, it's not, it's both.
So free games (like Murder of Sonic) apparently won't be affected.
Here's their pricing schedule once the threshold is met:
It still adds up for the smaller projects, with Unity taking all or most of the revenue from smaller games.
And one thing that's still bothering me: the install threshold is "life to date" and Unity is charging per install over the threshold. So, if a game's been around for years and had a million downloads and has made 200,000 dollars in the last year, they're gonna end up paying that 200,000 all at once.
At least, that's what I'm reading.
So, ok, I was wrong. Free projects won't be affected. But this is still awful, especially when it's first starting out.

I'm still not using them. They never had a good reputation- I mean, there's good Unity games, but there's also a lot of bad ones because people can just release games with Unity with no coding experience. I want to make games someday, but I want them to be a good quality, so I'm waiting until I can actually figure out C++ (heck, I'm still wading through HTML, I'm nowhere near real programming languages). As long as I have to learn coding to make something good, I might as well find an engine that I can trust. I hear a lot about Godot. I also think I'll want to look at Monogame, because Monogame was used to make Axiom Verge and Celeste, and it's apparently based on the defunct XNA that was used to make Stardew Valley. Or I'll find something else. But not Unity. I just don't trust them.

(1/2) Is it hypocritical of me to want to see fangaming move to using free/open-source game engines when the source franchises are neither of those?
(2/2) I feel as though due to their head-start, engines like Game Maker and Clickteam are the ones you're "expected" to use for X franchise. There are already pixel-perfect Sonic and Mega Man examples for those engines, and I've been directly told by a Mega Man fan game community to not even bother programming my own MM game in Godot because it will just play sloppier, and that they won't forgive its flaws just because it was "programmed from scratch" or "uses a multiplatform engine".
I mean, accessibility is nice. And I think the desire to get off of something like Clickteam Fusion is admirable. I like it, I still use it, I actually want to keep using it even as Clickteam as a company feels like it is burning down around itself. But it is slow and clumsy and bloated.
But I also think people just make stuff for whatever they use. Clickteam Fusion and Game Maker were pretty entrenched in SFGHQ for the longest time because that's what everybody ten years ago was using, twenty years ago even, and that's where all the knowledge, tools, and pipeline is.
Thankfully, now we have Sonic Worlds Next, written in Godot, which means literally anyone can spin up a Sonic fangame with clean, accurate code without needing to own a license for some $150 piece of tech owned by an apathetic or ugly company.

So. I made a guy.
Well, less made and more like redesign an old fankid I made years ago.
The colors and design aren't final, so stuff might change, but I'm content with what I got for now.
I'm not 100% on his name, but I think Unity fits well enough.
More info I couldn't fit in his ref:
- Because he is a child of Chaos (Silver) and Sol (Blaze), it is currently unknown if he needs the Chaos Emeralds or the Sol Emeralds to go Super, if he can even go Super at all.
- Due to this, if he tried to use an Emerald from either set's power, it would take a lot out of him.
- He butts heads with his mom often because he doesn't take the royalty stuff seriously and thinks she's too strict.
- There's actually two versions of him that exist, and what you see is the Timeline B version. (I will elaborate more if asked.)

I'm baaaack
can't catch a break from my wifi, it just dies for entire weeks sometimes >:(
I'm trying to fix it
but I have made some progress on the Ivory Game, it has a sonic, and he can stand on the ground :D
I haven't made a player controller yet, but csharp is hard and I've never used unity before, so having something at all is amazing for me
super excited tho, and bc my wifi is kinda back I can download more tutorials yippee

Halloween is right around the corner so I thought I would create a piece for the season. While its not spooky and scary related, I still have my Unity Trio, Eki and Nia dressing up in cosplay for the holiday.
Starting off we have Danny cosplaying Kengo Benimaru from ‘Yo-Kai Watch Y School Heroes’. I’m still kind of new to the series of ‘Yo-Kai Watch Y School Heroes’ but when I saw Kengo Benimaru, this hero form became one of my favourites (Next to Earth Walker and Shikkokumaru). I felt that he was the best fit for Danny as they both act around the same level of maturity and both use a sword/blade as their weapon of choice.
Danny worked pretty hard to get his cosplay to be as accurate as possible although he couldn’t get the skin tone accurate since he didn’t want to use too much face paint for it and that he lacked a way for the dual tails, his small dagger was his idea for compensating for the Reiken Danzetsumaru and he used temporary hair dye on the tips of his hair for the fur colour.
Next is Mich cosplaying as Blitzo from ‘Helluva Boss’. Yeah, I know ‘Helluva Boss’ can be a bit... Crude but Blitzo and Mich are similar as they both use guns and have some areas of their personalities that are alike. The difference is that Mich is better at communication in terms of his emotions and can take responsibilities for his actions, Blitzo has a bit to work on, but I know my favourite Imp will get there eventually.
There were some problems with Mich’s cosplay, but he just compensated a lot of it; The style of the jacket had to be altered and the style of the undershirt got in the way, so he went with a normal t-shirt. The face paint took some time, but he mostly focused on the natural markings/birthmarks and the scars since he really wanted to focus on those aspects.
Next is Riya cosplaying as Rosalina from the ‘Mario’ franchise. I did struggle with choosing who Riya would cosplay as but eventually I chose Rosalina since they’re pretty similar in terms of design and, in my headcannon, similar in personality.
Riya took a lot of time into getting her cosplay accurate despite her shyness of her shoulders showing (Hence why she is blushing a bit), she even got the wand made and slightly styled her hair a bit to better reflect Rosalina. The only she did not include was the crown but that was because she was worried that it would not stay on her head.
Next is Eki cosplaying as Cosmo from ‘Sonic X’. While I did struggle as well for Eki choice of cosplay, I eventually chose Cosmo from ‘Sonic X’ as I see them both a shy and sweet character who hold a lot of potential that is hidden deep within them.
The attire of Cosmo is close to Eki’s general style, so it was easy for her to get this pretty accurate. The only thing that was changed was the neck area to be a bit higher, not a drastic change was done.
Last but not least is Nia cosplaying as Randy Cunningham/The Ninja from ‘Randy Cunningham: 9Th Grade Ninja’. When it came to choosing who Nia was going to cosplay as, it was not hard for me to choose the Ninja known as Randy Cunningham since they are very alike, and I see them becoming good friends if they were to ever meet.
Nia’s cosplay for the Ninja suit is pretty accurate with some minor changes to the scarf and no inclusion of the hood as it would have made things harder for Nia to see (She has limited vision due to having to wear her eyepatch). She’s sticking to her human form since the Ninja is a human.
I had fun with drawing this since it allowed me to explore more with my characters and who they are like to other characters that I like.
