So Sega removed the official ages for the Sonic characters and I think that was a good idea because the characters really haven't been acting the ages they were given in any of the more recent games—especially Amy. There is no way this girl is 12 in Forces or Frontiers or even Generations or Colours.
Also Tails hasn't seemed 8 for a long time—he's definitely going through his teen years. I mean, Cream was axed from Team Sonic Racing for being too young yet there was Tails despite having been 2 years older. I refuse to believe he's still 8. Cream is still absolutely little, but I can't believe she was replaced by Chao—they live to, like, FIVE years old and then die, how could they drive a car??? I digress.
But I noticed something really interesting...
Tumblr media
Amy's bio doesn't mention her age or perceived age which is in-line with the change of removing their ages, but another character is very curious by comparison:
Tumblr media
Silver is "young" yet he was canonically older than Amy—I know the new bios have other controversy among fans but I'm just going to talk about their ages specifically.
Somehow they've swapped positions where it seems that Amy is older than Silver now, and while I do actually find this absolutely hilarious, I'm going to try and headcanon why this is the case without just chocking it up to a retcon.
So Silver travels between the present and 200 years in the future, and while it could be assumed that he spends as much time in the future as he is away from the present, that may be false. Technically, when Silver returns to the past, he could end up farther along the timeline than the amount of time he spent in the future which would mean that Sonic and the others in the present aged while Silver did not. He effectively gets outpaced by his friends in the present because he appears later in their life.
So while this is a very strange change, I'm just going to headcanon that Amy outpaced Silver in age due to his time travel which I find kinda funny but also pretty depressing on Silver's end. He could potentially significantly "outlive" the Sonic crew by appearing later and later in their lives. I guess there's always Shadow and Omega who'll be around...

Silver's profile says he can't remember how peaceful days and blue skies were restored. Like he knows the state of the world before and can't remember how it was fixed.
Now I don't know if Silver is supposed to have a new backstory where he's been fighting Eggman Nega in a peaceful future or still has his 06 backstory without the knowledge of 06 itself happening.
Because Sonic Rivals is canon and Eggman Nega is from Silver's time( and can't exist in timelines where Eggman dies) but they also keep treating Silver as coming from a devastated future.
Legit every single fucken thing about this profile is becoming more confusing the more I discuss it with people oh my GOD😅
Aight, recap, because I am truly getting confused here, haha. As far as I know, multiple profiles plus Silver's Sonic Channel page do explicitly mention that he's from a ruined future. Just some things I found here and there:
Sonic Channel (auto-translated): Silver is a hedgehog who came from the future to change the devastated world of the future. [...] Although he tends to run into things a bit, he has a positive personality and a strong sense of justice even though he grew up in a devastated future. He continues to fight to restore peace to the world.
Sonic Generations: Silver is a hedgehog who has come from the future to change a ruined planet in his timeline. Although he was raised in a world of ruin, he is an optimist and full of a sense of justice.
And spin-offs whose canonicity is more debatable:
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020: A hedgehog from a devastated future.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U: Silver the Hedgehog comes from the future— from a world that seems to have been laid to waste.
None of these mention '06 explicitly, so this could also be a Generic Ruined Future For Character Consistency. However, in Rivals 1 which is Silver's 'official first meeting' with Sonic and co (so to say), Onyx Island is not destroyed and Eggman Nega is heavily implied to have stolen the camera from someone else... neither of which are things I would ascribe to a ruined future. And Silver's dialogue in Rivals 2 both hints at the Ifrit not having destroyed the world yet or having done so already, from what I could make of it. The situation with the Ifrit generally is kinda confusing, lol. Meanwhile, the Fast Friends Forever profile says "Silver’s time period was once ravaged and ruined, but together with Sonic, Blaze, and others he helped restore its blue skies and peaceful days – even if he can’t remember how." This clearly mentions '06, because Blaze is there. And it would furthermore imply that his Rivals 1!future is a good one. Which is definitely possible! However... it does contradict all the above bios, that state Silver is from a ruined future instead. And secondly, the can't remember how is very oddly-worded. That would indeed imply he remembers '06's bad future... which he can't, because he did not recognise Blaze except for a vague feeling neither could place in Colours DS! If they'd just said that he can't remember it at all, it would perhaps have been more clear...
So I believe the overall problem is that it is uncertain whether Silver comes from a good future or a ruined one based on conflicting information in multiple bios, where quite a few might or might not be leaning into his (erased) '06 backstory. Meanwhile, FFF explicitly states that he lives in a good future, and furthermore heavily hints that he can recall the fact that the future was not good in '06. So... yeah, that's the best I can make of it. And I truly have no good answer what is considered the 'right' backstory for him now. I would say Sonic Channel weighs heaviest because Sonic is originally a Japanese franchise... except for the fact that SC is quite explicitly talking about '06!Silver because his one dislike is noted to be Iblis. Personally, I like the idea that in canon, Silver comes from a good future since that is what Rivals 1 seems to hint at most, furthermore supported by his statements in Colours DS. But I would very much appreciate it if we could actually see this in a game or have him say so in a game (and then not a spin-off like Colours DS, haha), since I feel like that holds more weight than conflicting bios written by entirely different people who might not have a full grasp on everything either (like me rn😅). And as for his backstory that you mention, perhaps it is both? The Silver from '06 got yote into a new timeline with vague memories of a ruined world that suddenly became good without recalling the allies he met, all the while Eggman Nega is his archnemesis in that new world? It is not entirely incompatible... just confusing, basically. I can't make too much sense out of it either, I'm afraid!
ETA because I put it in the tags but I think it is actually quite important for the post: I honesty would not be surprised if the four bios above just follow his '06 story because that is more well-known than Rivals, and in '06 he is from a clearly-ruined future. That would be a good explanation for me why they mention his ruined future so much (even if Generations afaik has some mentions to Rivals and Rivals 2 so it does acknowledge its existence but you know): Silver's '06 backstory is simply far more well-known than Rivals is, and furthermore, neither Rivals game explicitly states whether or not the future is good or ruined (with Silver at the end of Rivals 2 even saying "I hope the new future is a happy one.). So... yeah? Maybe? I don't know. There's just too many contradictions in both the games and the bios😅

This is just 1 of the MILLIONS of reasons I love Sonic the Hedgehog! The second you like Sonic, WHAM! You now have friends all over the world, no matter where you go! If you know me in real life, I am painfully shy, to the point it’s embarrassing. But here I went to the Sonic Speed Cafe by myself in a city I don’t live in, and struck up a conversation with 3 people I’ve never met before and had the best time! In fact, I think I talked more in 1 hour than I’ve talked in a whole week haha! I always have the most wonderful, positive experiences with people in the Sonic community 😁💙🦔 Shoutout to @all-stargamer99, Daniel and Troy for the lovely conversations!

Silver is the opposite of Shadow in that Silver loves the world and its people but struggles with close individual relationships while Shadow has no love for the world or it’s people but is driven by his individual relationships with Maria and Sonic.

The new Fast Friends Forever Eggman bio is here. Sad that he didn't get a new special render for it too :( But they reused my fav render of him grabbing the belly so I can't be mad hehe 💜
Tumblr media
Was holding my breath as bios can be painfully inaccurate at times but this is good! A good quick and accurate summary of who he is, what he does, and what he wants because it really is that simple in a good way ^^

I was really curious about the differences between the English and Japanese biographies for the Sonic crew when it came to Silver being described as "young". In English, Silver, Tails and Cream are all called "young" but in Japanese they are each described with different kanji. I don't read or speak Japanese, but I use the Jisho dictionary website for accurate translation of individual kanji.
Tumblr media
The first sentence of Silver's bio: シルバーは約200年後の未来からやってきた、いつかヒーローになりたいと願っている若きハリネズミです
Translated through Google: "Silver is a young hedgehog from about 200 years in the future who hopes to become a hero someday."
Tumblr media
The first sentence of Tails' bio: テイルスは、自分の可能性を発見したばかりのキツネの少年です。
Translated through Google: "Tails is a young fox boy who has just discovered his potential"
Tumblr media
The first sentence of Cream's bio: クリーム・ザ・ラビットは、困っている人を助けたいという大きな心を持った、小さなウサギの女の子です。
Translated through Google: "Cream the Rabbit is a little rabbit girl with a big heart who wants to help people in need"
Now that is how Google translates these sentences but Jisho can give more insight into which kanji was used for each character.
Silver's bio refers to him as a young person:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tails' bio refers to him as a young boy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Cream's bio uses little or tiny:
Tumblr media
So Tails' age is of a young boy of few years while Silver's age is a young person who is immature/of an age low in number.
It's hard to say how old they are specifically based on these translations but obviously Silver is older than Tails who is older than Cream which is something we could already tell based on the characterization of the three of them.
At least the Japanese translation actually has more nuance to their ages than the English version on the Sonic website which just uses "young" for all three.
What these descriptions could mean for the characters ages specifically would depend on the cultural and social connotation in Japan which I don't have insight into.
...
Also here is a bonus translation that I really got a kick out of:
Tumblr media
Ah yes, Silver, the young senior citizen. It's hilarious that his name can be translated to senior citizen which probably refers to the colour of his quills like the silver hair of the elderly.
Anyway, hopefully my nitpicking on word choice was interesting to somebody.

Maybe you saw, but the Fast Friends Forever website has a bio on Silver that seems to confirm that indeed his time travel to the past is not under his control.
"These days he travels to Sonic’s time via mysterious portals that appear when things in the past go awry."
Silver is a young, aspiring hero from two hundred years in the future. He commands powerful psychokinesis which allows him to manipulate objects with his mind, fly through the air, and even teleport short distances. While he means well, his naivety can sometimes lead him astray. Silver’s time period was once ravaged and ruined, but together with Sonic, Blaze, and others he helped restore its blue skies and peaceful days – even if he can’t remember how. These days he travels to Sonic’s time via mysterious portals that appear when things in the past go awry. He’s dedicated to doing whatever it takes to ensure the future remains peaceful and prosperous.
Thanks for telling me, because I had no idea the website had been updated to give character profiles too! There is a lot to unpack here, haha. "Sonic, Blaze and others" clearly refers to Sonic '06, and I suppose this confirms that Silver indeed does not remember the events of that game (previously shown in the Japanese version of Team Sonic Racing). I do suppose this indicates that the future he comes from is just overall a good one, based on "blue skies and peaceful days". And as it says he wants to "ensure the future remains peaceful and prosperous", I wonder if it puts stock in the idea that Silver goes to the past before things go wrong in the future, thus having it never be ruined to begin with? The phrasing does not confirm or deny the idea that his future 'goes bad' before his very eyes (like what might have happened in Rivals 2, even if Silver's dialogue there does not strongly confirm or deny that either). But overall, it's neat for him, though: I'm happy he seems to live in a good world!
But onwards to the huge elephant in the room here, haha. Namely: "These days he travels to Sonic’s time via mysterious portals that appear when things in the past go awry."
WHAT?!
This has never been shown in any game, as far as I am aware! It does give a clear answer about how he travels to the past, but it raises just as many questions still, in my opinion. Where do these portals come from/who makes them, things like that. Though, I do not think it means he travels to the past entirely involuntarily; considering the fact they mention portals, it seems to me like he actively needs to jump into one to get to the past, thus making it voluntary... kind of. Unless it opens up right underneath his feet and sweeps him away before he can help it, of course! XD But yes, it does seem as if Silver himself does not actively have control over when he goes to the past, since it is clearly stated the portals appear when things in the past go awry without Silver calling them forth. Overall, this is quite the interesting blurb!
To dive further into speculating, I feel like there is more going on here than we are aware of. The fact that they are so clear about how Silver travels to the past through these portals that appear when things go wrong in the past is quite different from all the vagueness we've had before about his time travel (which a Sonic Channel post said was Chaos Control, and the only times we saw it in '06 it was that as well, with none of the later games he appears in touching upon it). Plus, the fact they are being rather specific about an entirely new means for him to time travel that has never been shown before makes me wonder. I hope we'll finally get to see it in actual action in one of the games!

Sonic's Friends Are Supposed To Be Fast
So something many people were confused by in Sonic the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Movie is why Knuckles and Tails were decently fast in the Movie. So the reason is the characters in the Sonic cast are all supposed to be decently fast.
This is something Sonic Team has even done where they refer to Sonic and his friends as Fast Friends. And if we begrudgingly take into account Sonic Speed Simulator, Sonic's friends can all be classified by Orbot as "speed creature"s.
So the way I see it is Sonic is the fastest as we see with the fastest thing alive title. With Metal Sonic and Shadow rivaling his speed as they are able to match his speed. Everyone else is fast themselves they aren't as fast as Sonic. In addition characters with the speed classification such as Amy and Espio would end up being faster than most just not as fast as Sonic.
This would be like how in Mario games everyone can jump pretty high, but Mario is the one who can jump the highest making him famous for it and even giving him the nickname Jumpman. While the only person who can rival his jumping but being able to jump a bit higher is Luigi.
