"I've been thinking about addiction and I've been thinking about people who if they're either suffering through mental illness or they're suffering through addiction or they have an everyday struggle, no one pats them on the back every day, but every day they are actively fighting something. But there are so many days that nobody gives them credit for that, and so, how often must somebody who's in that sort of internal struggle must want to say to everyone in the room, 'You have no idea how close I am to going back to a dark place'."
November 25, 2020: Taylor chats with Jack Antonoff about the everyday struggle of things like addiction and mental illness. (source)

not to be dramatic but to ME i got the best surprise song combo so far because my night was the only night where BOTH songs were on my list. like other shows have had one from my list (most notably yoyok, speak now, tosotd) but this was the only time so far they’ve BOTH been favorites of mine. so this was genuinely the luckiest i could’ve gotten

august and the 1 are the only songs here that are not songs that i listen to much / are not one of my favorites... but tlgad is a masterpiece of a storyteller wrapped up in the neatest little package (with the biggest ever bow on it) filled with folklore, camp, comedy, irony and sarcasm. I can't fully and accurately sum up all the things it manages to be. It's the biggest chameleon of the TS discography

you're so right. taylor's colored tips were so cute and i miss them 🩷
those sound fun! my family doesn't do a lot for the holidays because we don't celebrate christmas, but we do go over to my parents' best friends' house for christmas dinner
what are some standout lyrics in taylor's discography for you?
omgomg hi hi secret santa swiftie friend anonymous asker 👋👋 I hope you are doing well! That sounds like fun!
Just going off the top of my head:
-Today is never too late to be brand new (this is probably my top 3 ever)
-I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me
-been stomping all over my peace of mind in the shoes I gave you as a present
-never be so kind you forget your power, never wield such power you forget to be kind
-a red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground (ok this is probably my fav one ever)
-and by morning gone was any trace of you + the bridge of Clean!!!
-the sticks and stones they throw froze mid air
Song songs I love lyric wise and cannot just choose one:
Sad Beautiful Tragic
Bejeweled
Treacherous
Do you have any favorites? Have a great day 💗💗

“You’ve always been my heart, Mike,” Will told me, voice steady and sure. “You never really stopped.”
Tumblr media
I felt my jaw drop, barely able to process what I was hearing. The words that left Will’s lips ricocheted around my brain, and I might have forgotten how to breathe for a minute. I needed Will to pinch me, so I could wake up from this… if it wasn’t real, it would be a nightmare. Instead of asking Will to do it for me, I pinched myself, and felt butterflies erupt in my stomach when I didn’t snap my eyes open to the sight of my bedroom back in Indianapolis. I was still here, in Will’s room, and Will was holding me rather sensually, and I felt so fucking alive.
screaming crying throwing up at this gorgeous commission done for me by @taeiris !!! (from my fic this is me trying [quote from timt mike’s version]) 🖤 thank you for this masterpiece
also… since this post is getting so much traffic check out my song hehehe

A theme/concept I really like is what I've come to think of as the 'fictional American town'. It's where Betty, James, and August live. It's where Dorothea grew up and comes home to in the holidays. It's where the narrator of Fortnight feels trapped in her marriage and later escapes to Florida from. It's where the protagonist of But Daddy I Love Him elopes from. (I know the ttpd songs are about Taylor but to me they also give as strong an impression of a character protagonist as the folkmore songs do). I guess I would love to see Taylor continue writing character songs set in the same location with some crossovers and references, and through that lens do an examination of life in an American town. That would be a cool concept for an album or a playlist
and it's the one-screen town in timt, and the same old town with the field in down bad, the wasteland in midnight rain, and the "small town fears" in i hate it here! (at least, that's my head-canon.)
i totally want more of that, it's so compelling!

#ttpd analysis day thirteen - I Can Do It With A Broken Heart
so fun fact, when I first listened to ttpd I hadn't read the prologue (does this make me a bad swiftie? lol) but so when i first heard ICDIWABH i texted one of my friends "this song sounds like mania". i know now that she referred to the relationship itself as the mania but following heartbreak, some people can be purposefully self destructive/harmful, and in that same vein i think some people refuse to process events when they've recently happened and occupy their mind with other things (hello denial stage). so basically that is ICDIWABH in a nutshell
so the lyrics of ICDIWABH are worrisome and extreme (and dare I say, unfortunately painfully relatable). to couple those lyrics with the upbeat, speedy production, the whole song sounds like avant-garde dadaism, basically
Dada was an art movement formed during the First World War in Zurich in negative reaction to the horrors and folly of the war. The art, poetry and performance produced by dada artists is often satirical and nonsensical in nature.
lights, camera, bitch, smile, even when you wanna die
I cry a lot but I am so productive, it's an art
I'm miserable! and nobody even knows!
once you get past the satirical production and first verse, there are some parallels to Hits Different (which also has an upbeat production):
I keep finding his things in drawers crucial evidence, I didn't imagine the whole thing/I find the artifacts, cried over a hat
one of the lyrics that stands out to me in ICDIWABH is I can pass this test. it can go a lot of different ways and I think that's why it resonates. it makes me think of TIMT and fell behind all my classmates and I ended up here, Bejeweled did all the extra credit, then got graded on a curve, and even Dear John's never impressed by me acing your tests. it could be indicative of the relationship itself being a test (to the public), or the muses partner testing the narrator. given the context of the song, it's likely the narrator saying i can show everyone I'm fine but it wasn't true
