hey guys whats up my mum just suggested a sad song about the dog they sent to space and I looked at the artist's page and one of the first playlists they show is one about juanaflipa.

27: A song that breaks your heart. i would pick the jeff buckley version of hallelujah but i already answeredd that for another question so ill pick something else uhh laika by wil wagner. ive cried every time ive listened to that song so i save it for special occasions but it actually rips my fucking organs out and puts them back in the wrong spots and then expects me to keep breathing and moving about with all that dirt inside me jesus christ if you ever need to cry that's your best bet

Just had a breakdown over the song “Laika” by Wil Wagner.

I then looked up things about the real Laika, like how Laika wasn’t even her first name, her name was Kudryavka, or Little Curly. and how one of the scientists admitted to regretting sending her up because they didn’t learn nearly as much as her life cost. She was only 3 when she was sent up and died of overheating because the satellites cooling system failed after either 7 hours or four days. Quote, “Laika, the first animal to be launched into orbit, died from overheating and panic in the tiny spacecraft – all alone and in severe pain.” AND THEY KNEW SHE WOULD DIE! They knew the probability of survival for her was near impossible! She didn’t even have a body to bury because it burnt up as the satellite fell to Earth. Yeah, they didn’t even try to bring her back down. The satellite eventually just fell 5 months later.

In a book chronicling the story of Soviet space medicine, Dr. Vladimir Yazdovsky wrote, "Laika was quiet and charming ... I wanted to do something nice for her: She had so little time left to live."

on the one hand I want to thank you for telling me about this beautiful song but on the other hand I’m trying very hard not to lose my shit in front of the ticket man. i just. im. the theme of humans being these greater, omnipotent beings who know of death, know the exact fate of the dog, of the calf, and still the animal is just so happy to be there, if only for a moment. it doesn’t matter that they are going to die soon, it matters only that there are twice as many stars as usual, that there’s more room to play out here. this is a pure, good creature that humans are killing because it has no use or because it does have use, and there is no bitterness there. they forgot to walk me this morning, they were too busy changing the world

Comfort Show: hmmm. I have watched every episode of Scooby-Doo. So probably that.

Comfort Movie: Lost Boys and The Babysitter. Love me a good visually interesting, highly quotable, coming-of-age horror flick that isn't scary.

Comfort song: recently? Laika by Wil Wagner and Welly Boots by The Amazing Devil. Laika's like. Confused faith in humanity and attempt to reconcile that with why she must suffer gets me through not understanding things.

Comfort clothing: jeans. Pretty much any day I have to work it's gonna be in jeans.
