Sooo happy to open the Taivan tag, here and on AO3 and finally see something about Taivan! It's so annoying that most of the tag is full of fics of other couples and even harder to find one where my girl Van is not suffering for 99% of it
If there's one person left on this earth holding Taivan dear, I'm that person. And while I do make them both suffer, I like to think I balance it out...most of the time. (For example, the upcoming fic in which Van is very much dead the entire time--but it's a rom-com! It's lovely! Mostly. Don't worry about her, she's fine...now...)

I am all mixed up today. I went to watch the new Dungeon Meshi then realized it doesn't come out until tomorrow
I put on an episode of Mayday instead and uh. It happened to contain something very triggering for me, which is. Not ideal
Now I need new DunMeshi more than ever

regarding your last post with the kayaking and fear of deep water: deep water is pretty much cool until you remember it's deep, then it's scary. but if you forget it's Deep Water then it's really cool and fun!
That's exactly how I survive! I actively ignore that fact that it's deep. What are you talking about, that water is CLEARLY 3 feet deep, Actually. Yes I am on the river. That's irrelevant.

Most people probably use software that blocks certain websites during certain times to block "typical" time-sucks during work hours: social media, news sites and "news" sites, Youtube and other streaming platforms, online shopping...
What do I have blocked during my work hours?
A genealogy website.
And I'm seriously considering blocking Wikipedia as well.
I think this says a lot about who I am as a person, that this is what distracts me from my work on a regular basis...

1 3 & 24 for yellerjackets…
PREFACING THIS WITH THE FACT IM NOT SUPER ACTIVE OR AWARE OF YJ FANDOMISMS. ive mainly just been looking at fanart/fic and having fun on my own time but i Have been exposed to some fandom stuff so lets freaking go.
1. the character everyone gets wrong
DEFINITELY wouldnt say everyone gets this wrong but seeing anyone call shauna a girlboss makes me want to explode.. guys shes quite literally a girlfailure. shes Not winning. she cant lie to save her life. and i Love her.
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
ngl , also SPOILERS FOR 2x6 ⬇️
but seeing people say it was boring and bad that shauna did in fact care about her son and also that it was born stillborn??? saying it was wasted potential for the other yjs to resent the baby and be guiltily glad it died later??? first off how would you easily portray them being glad the baby was dead without literally getting in their heads 😭 also imo they probably are in the show NOW glad its dead?? like they feel awful about it im sure but theres no fucking way they wanted to deal with a baby while stranded 😭 come onnnn
2x6 SPOILERS ⬆️
oh also 1 more complaint i saw someone on twt saying that yj was problematic because it was 'demonizing cannibalism' ... i dont even know where to begin. well its quite literally not doing that. hope that helps!!
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
GENUINELY NO CLUE IM SORRY AHSJFNNG im so lucky for not really seeing the underbelly of the yj fandom 💖

watched final destination, it was good. it was a really interesting choice to play off the fear of death itself rather than fear of what's causing it, where instead of a killer or whatever it's like. fate. of course the movie has a semi-supernatural element in that the universe is trying to correct itself and all that but at its core the fear it takes advantage of is the fear of our own inevitable deaths, and how we try to ignore it but at any moment, it could all suddenly be over. even with alex's precognition, all he can do is prolong what is categorically unavoidable. nobody lives forever.
it was also just a really well made movie. the cinematography and effects were great and i appreciated the frequent use of double-meaning in the script so that characters are alluding to death even when they aren't, which enforces the feeling of death's lingering presence over the viewer
the beginning of the movie is definitely the best part (basically the entire time they're at the airport and on the plane). the premonition scene in the airplane was incredibly stressful and exciting and they did a fantastic job executing that (and plane stuff freaks me the fuck out anyway), and i also love the shot after they got off the plane where you see it explode in the background before any of the characters notice. the framing of it -- how it's not the focal point of the shot, there's dialogue happening over it, the characters aren't looking that way, etc -- replicates the feeling of if you were actually there and just happened to be looking that way when it exploded, like it's a coincidence that you saw it before everyone else, even though it of course isn't because it's a movie.
i wouldn't necessarily place it among my favorite horror movies, but that's mainly because there are just plenty that i like more. i really can't think of much that's actually wrong with it, it's just that there are a lot of movies that are better. it's like a 7.5-8 out of 10 for me overall and i plan to watch the second one at some point (ive seen the infamous car accident scene before and that's actually what made me want to check these movies out in the first place)

idk if people on tumblr know about this but a cybersecurity software called crowdstrike just did what is probably the single biggest fuck up in any sector in the past 10 years. it's monumentally bad. literally the most horror-inducing nightmare scenario for a tech company.
some info, crowdstrike is essentially an antivirus software for enterprises. which means normal laypeople cant really get it, they're for businesses and organisations and important stuff.
so, on a friday evening (it of course wasnt friday everywhere but it was friday evening in oceania which is where it first started causing damage due to europe and na being asleep), crowdstrike pushed out an update to their windows users that caused a bug.
before i get into what the bug is, know that friday evening is the worst possible time to do this because people are going home. the weekend is starting. offices dont have people in them. this is just one of many perfectly placed failures in the rube goldburg machine of crowdstrike. there's a reason friday is called 'dont push to live friday' or more to the point 'dont fuck it up friday'
so, at 3pm at friday, an update comes rolling into crowdstrike users which is automatically implemented. this update immediately causes the computer to blue screen of death. very very bad. but it's not simply a 'you need to restart' crash, because the computer then gets stuck into a boot loop.
this is the worst possible thing because, in a boot loop state, a computer is never really able to get to a point where it can do anything. like download a fix. so there is nothing crowdstrike can do to remedy this death update anymore. it is now left to the end users.
it was pretty quickly identified what the problem was. you had to boot it in safe mode, and a very small file needed to be deleted. or you could just rename crowdstrike to something else so windows never attempts to use it.
it's a fairly easy fix in the grand scheme of things, but the issue is that it is effecting enterprises. which can have a looooot of computers. in many different locations. so an IT person would need to manually fix hundreds of computers, sometimes in whole other cities and perhaps even other countries if theyre big enough.
another fuck up crowdstrike did was they did not stagger the update, so they could catch any mistakes before they wrecked havoc. (and also how how HOW do you not catch this before deploying it. this isn't a code oopsie this is a complete failure of quality ensurance that probably permeates the whole company to not realise their update was an instant kill). they rolled it out to everyone of their clients in the world at the same time.
and this seems pretty hilarious on the surface. i was havin a good chuckle as eftpos went down in the store i was working at, chaos was definitely ensuring lmao. im in aus, and banking was literally down nationwide.
but then you start hearing about the entire country's planes being grounded because the airport's computers are bricked. and hospitals having no computers anymore. emergency call centres crashing. and you realised that, wow. crowdstrike just killed people probably. this is literally the worst thing possible for a company like this to do.
crowdstrike was kinda on the come up too, they were starting to become a big name in the tech world as a new face. but that has definitely vanished now. to fuck up at this many places, is almost extremely impressive. its hard to even think of a comparable fuckup.
a friday evening simultaneous rollout boot loop is a phrase that haunts IT people in their darkest hours. it's the monster that drags people down into the swamp. it's the big bag in the horror movie. it's the end of the road. and for crowdstrike, that reaper of souls just knocked on their doorstep.
