im kind of genuinely horrified when I remember I used to have an elementary librarian who would give me books to read from her collection cause I was a really advanced reader and she thought I could handle them I guess? and I can’t even remember how that started but looking back as an adult it really hits me that I shouldn’t have been reading the material that I did
and im not exaggerating when I say that cause they had topics of attempted sexual assault and rape. no 12 year old should be reading that kind of subject matter!!
and I cannot imagine being an adult and thinking those types of books were appropriate for a sixth grader to read and as an educator I never would give a child those types of books. it does make me a little nauseous to remember and I really hope she’s no longer working in elementary schools

3 times Phantom's Guardian was Mentioned + 1 Time He Showed Up
One
Phantom’s introduction to Young Justice wasn’t as dramatic as Empress’ or Slobo’s, or even Arrowette’s first introduction to the cave. No, it wasn’t during the Olympics, or on a battlefield, and he didn’t come in injured and looking for help.
Impulse just brought Phantom in one day and insisted that he should join because he’s their age, interested in justice, and now that Greta’s human again they need another ghost member. So Phantom stayed, popping in and out for missions but never really sticking around all that long.
Today is one of the days that Phantom’s with them on a mission, that being looking around a lab of the Brain’s that had an energy surge recently, despite it being presumably abandoned.
Kon got paired up with Phantom to check the rest out first, since they both have better hearing than Anita and Tim, who were both still in the main room working on checking the computers for previous activity.
The room is dark except for the light green ball glowing slightly above Phantom’s hand. He waves it around enough for it to reflect off of glass, then throws it up to the ceiling. The light expands enough to illuminate the room.
Phantom mumbles about not knowing he could do that. Kon ignores him and moves closer to inspect the glass tubes to the side of several monitors set up.
“Looks like cloning equipment,” Phantom says, casually. He drags a finger through the dust gathering on one of the monitors. “Don’t think they’ve been activated recently, though, so that’s good.”
“What? You got a problem with clones or something?” It’s a quick and defensive answer, and Phantom puts his hands up in surrender.
“Not in concept.” He shrugs and joins Kon near the tubes. “But not a lot of people ask before making clones.”
“So I don’t need to sic Superman on you?” Obviously Kon could chew Phantom out himself, but few can do a “not mad, just disappointed” face better than Clark.
Phantom scrunches his face. “Why would you need to?”
Kon stops pretending to inspect the tube and stares at Phantom. “You do know I’m a clone, right?” The blank look on Phantom’s face tells him that no, he did not. “Well I am. Clone of Superman, though we’re pretty much brothers now.”
“Cool,” Phantom says, not a bit less friendly. He hesitates for a second before continuing, “Could I maybe ask you how you got there? Me and my clone have landed on cousins, but that was also, like, given to us by her evil dad. So.”
Phantom trails off. Huh, that makes three members of the team that have been cloned. Not a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened three times.
“You’re making sure she feels accepted, right?”
“Yeah! Well, whenever she’s around. She,” Phantom waves his hand around, looking for the right word, “She’s a wanderer. Exploring the world and stuff. But Richard has a room for her at home, and I remind her of that whenever she does stop by.”
“Well, first of all, don’t push it so hard,” Kon says. Phantom nods enthusiastically. “And second, who’s Richard?”
Kon doesn’t know a lot of Richards, and he doesn’t think that Phantom ever mentioned one before. Or even if he remembers his living life.
“Oh, he’s my, uh, guardian? I guess that’s the best term. The guy I’m living with who forces me to go to school sometimes.” Phantom looks away and back to the tubes.
Before Kon can ask for more details, Robin and Empress come in with a report of dead computers and wanting to know where they’re at with the cloning room.
They’re unimpressed with their lack of progress.
Two
Wally doesn’t really need to come by the Hamilton Lodge that often, not when that’s Young Justice’s territory and he doesn’t want to get involved in all of That.
But Red Tornado said that the team has a file on a planet that’s very quickly becoming a league problem, and he figured it might be a good time to try to check in with Bart, anyway. Make sure he hasn’t run any cars off cliffs again and all that.
So he stops by Manchester to ask Bart about the file, then they both head East to actually find it.
When they arrive at the hotel minutes later, Wally’s surprised to actually find it… clean? There’s no visible trash or overturned furniture or anything else he’d expect from an abandoned hotel filled with teenagers. Well, maybe not filled, lately. He doesn’t think anyone’s living here currently, with Greta at Elias’ for the school year and Slobo gone.
Still, the room smells slightly of artificial pine scent, and Bart perks up before disappearing and reappearing rapidly, holding a teammate up by his armpits. Said teammate just accepts this, his legs folding into a wispy tail, and head rolling against his shoulders.
“This is Phantom!” Bart holds him up higher. Phantom waves. Wally’s only heard of him through Max’s updates, the same way he would hear about Preston or Carol, but with more wariness about the supposed ghost.
Actually looking at the pale face and glowing green eyes contrasting against the darker than dark jumpsuit, Wally’s a little more ready to accept his claim at being undead.
“He stress cleans,” Bart explains, moving to carry Phantom under his arm. Wally bites down the urge to tell him to put him down, but only because Phantom doesn’t resist the hold, only moving to get into a more comfortable position. His hands are touching the floor. “So what happened?”
Bart directs the question downwards, and Phantom heaves a very dramatic sigh. Definitely a teenager. It does raise the question of who exactly this kid’s mentor is. Hopefully he does have one. Maybe he’s the Spectre’s kid?
Phantom phases through the arm holding him only to lay on top of Bart’s hair. “I accidentally called Richard dad. And then fled.”
Bart nods sagely. “Classic. One time I accidentally called Max dad, so I had to start a fire to distract him.”
Phantom sighs again, almost dreamily. “Genius.”
Wally doesn’t have time to unpack all of that. Well he does, but he’s not going to, because there’s really only one Richard that comes to mind that might have the heart to take in a dead kid, even if he doesn’t go by his full name.
But surely Dick would have told him, or any other Titan, if he had adopted a kid. Right?
But there’s still a little shadow of doubt. Maybe Dick wanted it to be a secret, or it was really new or had a rocky start. Phantom doesn’t seem to hold himself like a Bat, but it’s not a guarantee Dick would have trained him.
“The lodge looks nice,” Wally offers out loud, which Phantom shrugs at and wraps his tail around Bart’s head to keep secure. “Anyway, Impulse. The file on Myrg?”
“Oh yeah!” Again, Bart disappears then reappears a few seconds later with a paper file. They really need to start digitizing more of these things. “That’s the planet where we played baseball so that they wouldn’t destroy Earth!”
“You what.”
The prospect of Dick following in his dad’s footsteps is forgotten in the face of what the hell Young Justice got up to on Myrg.
Three
Tim may be in a…Predicament.
It’s not his fault. Really. He knew what he was doing. He couldn’t let a civilian fall for the trap. But they were already so close, so he just, kinda, pushed himself into the rope instead.
So there Robin is, tied upside down in a warehouse, with the Joker below next to an overly complicated control panel. The clown’s rambling about bombs hidden all over the city that Tim knows Batman is already tracking down with Batgirl.
Tim’s not really paying attention to the rant because of that, more focused on wiggling enough to get the spare mini-birdarang out of his glove to cut the rope without notifying the Joker.
“Yikes, bad time?” Asks Phantom’s voice beside him. Based on the source and accounting for the slight echo, he’s floating with his head near Tim’s, likely upside down. “Want some help?”
Tim gets the birdarang out and starts sawing at the thick rope. They should be fine anyway, but stalling the Joker for extra time would be helpful. “Can you possess the Joker? Just hold him still.”
“The correct term is overshadow, but sure.” The voice disappears, and a few seconds later the Joker freezes.
His body jerks forward, then backward, and a laugh chokes out of his throat. His hand claws over his mouth at the noise and he hunches over. All movement halts before he rights himself, shaking out his hands and rolling his shoulders. Phantom looks up at Tim and his eyes are glowing.
Tim cuts through the rope, kicking and using the momentum to right himself and land on his feet. He brushes past Phantom in Joker’s body to handle the control panel. He turns off the radio broadcast and dismantles the bomb strapped to the panel.
Threat handled, he turns to Phantom and holds up some handcuffs. “Let me arrest you?”
Phantom obliges, turning the Joker’s body around and putting his hands behind his back. Tim lets him walk by himself out of the warehouse and moves the handcuffs around a lamppost. The Joker’s body jerks again, then slumps forward, just as Phantom reappears next to him, scowling down at the unconscious body.
“That felt really slimy. Zero out of ten, would not do again,” Phantom grouches.
“Why’re you in Gotham?” Tim asks. It’s not like Phantom makes a habit of visiting. The last time he came into the city, he complained about feeling the dead under the streets. Fortunately, that let Tim uncover a few tunnels that Talons travel through. Phantom, however, was unnerved by the Talons and left quickly.
“Oh, Solomon Grundy’s back in our sewers. Richard said I should probably tell one of you Gotham heroes, since you keep track of those guys.” He shakes out his hands like they were cramped in the Joker.
They hadn’t seen Grundy in a while. Tim assumed he was currently in a less violent personality. “What’s he doing?”
Phantom shrugs. “Just chilling. Mostly underground. I tried to talk to him but he only grunted back at me. He also tried to pick me up, dunno what that was about.”
“Maybe because you’re both dead?” Tim guessed. That would be a surface level connection. Ivy and Woodrue have had more luck working with Grundy than anyone, and Phantom definitely doesn’t have the connection to the Green that’d help with that.
Police lights turn around the corner, and Tim shoots a grapple to get to the roof above them. Phantom follows, but disappears as soon as they’re on the roof. Going back home, probably.
Cass drops down from the roof she was listening on. “Richard?”
“Not the same one.”
They both stick around long enough to watch the Joker get put into the cop car.
Plus one
A spaceship landed in the forests of New York, and Cassie’s team was the first to respond to it. Technically not respond, but check it out, since there wasn’t any alert or anything.
Still, Wonder Girl has Empress, Robin, and Superboy on the other side of the ship, watching what looks like the back door, while she, Impulse, and Phantom watch the other door and main window. She has binoculars, but the windows are so tinted she can’t quite make anything out.
No aliens have come out yet, and she hesitates to have anyone go in, in case whoever inside does turn hostile.
Impulse has offered to run through a total of five times already, and it’s a testament to his restraint that he hasn’t, and a testament to Cassie’s that she hasn’t yelled at him yet. Phantom at least isn’t being annoying, but he’s not necessarily helpful, either. He’s not even watching the spaceship anymore. Now he’s trying to make a flower crown out of dandelions.
“Door’s opening on our side,” Robin says from the comms. “But no one’s coming out.”
“Alright, good enough to try to get in,” Cassie decides. She turns to Phantom, who’s closing off the circle of flowers. Beside him, Impulse has since pulled out a gameboy. “Phantom, go in invisibly through the open door and report back. Try to see what their plans are.”
“Oh, sure. One second.” Phantom finishes the crown and tries to put it on Bart’s head. It doesn’t quite fit over his mane of hair, but Phantom shrugs and leaves it sitting there anyway before going invisible.
“Maybe I should shave my head again,” Bart says as his game character dies.
He gets a resounding no in response.
Half an hour later they have a very annoyed Green Lantern lecturing them about league jurisdiction and knowing when to call someone else.
Apparently, the alien ship was just stopping to complete some maintenance, and did not appreciate any spying on them, and especially did not appreciate who did it. Green Lantern was more than happy to explain that Wonder Girl’s team is not really a part of the Justice League and he can help with their maintenance. They denied his help and left to find a place with less people in it.
“-and you!” Green Lantern rounds on Phantom next, but Cassie knows none of them are really listening. Sure, they messed up by freaking out the visiting aliens, and yeah maybe they should have contacted the league about it, but they’ve dealt with stuff worse than this! It’s not Cassie’s fault she thought that this would have stuck to the formula.
“Who even are you?” Green Lantern runs a hand through his black hair, stupid green gauntlets shining in the sunlight. “Do I need to call your mentor?” He frowns. “Or do they know you mess up alien technology by just being around it?”
Phantom scoffs and rolls his eyes. “How was I supposed to know their tech would go all fuzzy when I came in?”
“You wouldn’t have to know if you just stayed out of the spaceship!”
“Hey!” Cassie cuts in. “Technically that was my call. It’s not all on Phantom.”
“I still could've been more careful,” Phantom says to her, ignoring Green Lantern as they argue about blame.
“Cut it out for a second, okay?” Green Lantern puts a hand between them and they stop to glare at him. He pulls the hand back. “Look, can I just talk to one of your adults about this?”
Robin glares. “We don’t need an adult. We have this under control.”
“Only because I’m here now.”
“I’ll call my mentor,” Phantom says. Kon opens his mouth, most likely to offer to call Superman instead in hopes of a lighter sentence, but Bart covers his mouth, smiling like he knows something Cassie doesn’t. Tim and Anita share a look, and don’t intervene as Phantom pulls out a phone from his chest.
It rings once before it’s picked up. Cassie can’t hear the other side of the conversation, but Kon’s eyebrows scrunch in confusion. “Hey, do you think you can pick me up? Green Lantern wants to talk to you.” Phantom looks Green Lantern up and down then says, “No, this one doesn’t have a cape.”
Phantom says goodbye after rattling off their coordinates, hangs up, and stares at Green Lantern in silence for a few seconds.
And then a swirling mass of black seeps into the space next to Phantom. The end of a cane steps out of it, followed by a leg, then the rest of the immaculately dressed man holding the handle of the cane that’s shaped like a bird’s head.
“Phantom,” The man says. His voice drips with condescension in only a way a british accent can, yet Phantom smiles up at him. The shadowy portal behind him disappears. “What, exactly, happened?”
“That’s the fucking Shade,” Anita hisses to Robin, who shrugs noncommittedly at her. Green Lantern seems to recognise him too, taking a step back and clenching his hand that holds his ring.
“Well, the team and I were staking out this spaceship–super cool, by the way–and I went inside to check it out, but my presence messed with their tech–which was an accident–and they freaked out, so I freaked out, and then we kinda got into a little fight until Green Lantern came to mediate.”
“Hm. Is that right?” The Shade asks Green Lantern, who nods slowly, still anticipating an attack. “It seems like the problem’s fixed, then.”
“Well, yes, but–”
“And it does seem about time for these kids to get home, doesn't it?” The Shade pulls out an actual pocket watch, chain and all, from his suit pocket and takes his time in checking it. “I’ll see them home.”
Shadows grow from behind the team, swirling until they become a giant, gaping maw that swallows them up and spits them out in a different forest, or maybe just a different part of the same forest.
Either way, Cassie has to take a moment to make sure she doesn’t throw up from the sudden vertigo the shadow portal caused.
The Shade looks at Phantom, and raises an eyebrow. “You can’t expect me to always bail you out.”
Phantom shrugs, looking guilty. “I know. Thanks, Richard.”
Oh, so that’s who Richard is. Annoyingly, neither Tim or Bart look surprised by this revelation.

Bsf theo bullying you into cockwarming before bed. 🫠
bsf!theo is too much of a sweetheart in my eyes so i changed it to brothers bsf!theo if that’s ok <3 n i hope the italian in this makes sense lmao sorry if it doesn’t !!!
“hey, where’s the—” theo begins as he suddenly bursts into your room, but his words quickly trail off and his eyes widen, a smirk tinged with disbelief spreading across his face. you squeal in shock, instantly jerking your hand away from between your legs and hastily pulling your skirt down, covering your dripping, exposed cunt. meanwhile, pornographic sounds echo through the room from the speakers of your phone, which you clumsily dropped in panic.
“what the fuck is your problem?! you fucking asshole! leave!” you yell with narrowed eyes and a tight jaw, your cheeks on fire as you can feel your heart pounding in your throat. you try to reach for your phone that has dropped to the ground, stretching your arm as far as you can, but theo quickly seizes it right before your eyes. “theo! i swear to fucking—” “dio santo, what the fuck are you watching? fuckin’ disgusting.” theo snarls in disgust, chuckling condescendingly as his eyes are glued to the screen, the loud, pornographic sounds making your cheeks heat up even more.
“theo…. GIVE IT TO ME NOW!” you scream at the top of your lungs as you try to reach for your phone, but he jerks it away right before you can snatch it out of his hand and holds it above his head, staring down at you with an amused, mocking look on his face. you jump up, huffing as you stretch your arms as far as you can, but to no avail. “you better be quiet before your brother hears. you don’t want him to find out that his sweet little sister watches this kind of porn when she’s all alone, huh?”
your breathing quickens out of sheer anger, as if steam could practically come out of your ears while you glare at him with furrowed brows. “i mean, if it was just ‘normal porn’, fair enough. but this… nah, that’s just… fucking embarrassing, porco giuda.” he taunts, nodding disapprovingly as he stares at your screen with a mocking expression of shock on his face. “give. it. back.” “oh, don’t worry. i will give it back to you, piccola.” you let out a sigh of relief, the tense muscles in your body gradually relaxing as you start sit down, but then he speaks again. “but only if you watch more of those videos with me.” “what the f—” “while you sit on my cock.”
you scoff in disbelief, blinking rapidly as you stare at him, thinking he must be joking, yet the same serious, intense expression doesn’t falter from his face, making you realise he’s dead serious. “wha— why the fuck would i want that?” “hm. ‘cause you’re fuckin’ dripping, idiota.” he smugly gestures with his eyes towards your arousal trickling down the insides of your thighs. you look down at where here’s staring and quickly press your legs together, a mix of embarrassment and fury raging through your entire body. “you’re a bit slow sometimes, you know that?”
you’re ready to yell at him again, to call him all the horrible names you can think of, but you don’t— instead, you grab him by his shirt and frustratingly push him onto your bed, causing him to gaze up at you with the cockiest, most arrogant smirk ever, clearly just at surprised by your unexpected behaviour as you are. “don’t think i’m doing this because i want you, alright? it’s just— you just happen to have a dick!” “yeah, yeah. you hate me, i get it. c’mere before i change my mind and tell your brother.”
he grasps your wrist and forcefully pulls you onto his lap, biting his lip as his firm hands wander towards your ass under your skirt, squeezing it roughly. your hands hastily reach down to his crotch, eagerly unbuckling his belt while he shifts his attention to your phone and scrolls through the endless videos, trying to pick the perfect one. “and you know what? maybe i’ll let you move if you’re able to sit still enough while watching them with me.”

YOU’VE KNOWN JAKE SIM FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW.
though you had been friends for a while, you were still getting used to the fact that he was now your boyfriend.
it was hard to believe sometimes—jake, the effortlessly charming guy who seemed to have the whole school’s attention, had chosen you.
the popular, athletic, insanely good-looking guy who could probably have anyone he wanted.
and yet, he was holding your hand as you walked through the crowded mall together.
today, the two of you decided to hang out after school, hoping to escape the pressure of the hallways where jake was always surrounded by admirers.
the mall felt like a safe space, somewhere you could enjoy time together without everyone watching. or so you thought.
even now, walking next to him, you couldn’t help but notice the way people’s eyes followed him. ─── 𝘔𝘖𝘙𝘌 𝘜𝘕𝘋𝘌𝘙 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘊𝘜𝘛 .ᐟㅤ
it was like every girl you passed did a double-take, their gazes lingering a little too long.
you tried to shake off the feeling, but the more it happened, the harder it was to ignore.
especially when some girls weren’t subtle about it at all.
you glanced at jake as he laughed, his smile bright and genuine, he was telling you about something funny that happened in practice earlier, his hand warm and comforting in yours.
but instead of focusing on his words, all you could think about was how perfect he seemed—his golden skin glowing under the dim lights, his hair tousled in that effortlessly messy way, and his smile… god, his smile. it was no wonder people couldn’t stop staring.
as you walked past one of the stores in the mall, a tall, confident girl stepped directly in front of jake.
her glossy hair swung behind her as she smiled brightly at him, completely ignoring your presence as if you were invisible.
“hey,” she started, her tone dripping with confidence as she twirled a lock of her hair around her finger.
“i couldn’t help but notice you. you’re really cute. can i get your number?”
your heart sank immediately—you could feel the heat rising to your cheeks, embarrassment flushing through you as you stood there, watching her blatantly hit on your boyfriend.
the worst part? she didn’t even glance at you, it was like you didn’t matter.
jake blinked, clearly taken off guard by her boldness, but he quickly recovered.
with a polite smile, he shook his head.
“i appreciate that, but i have a girlfriend,” he said, his voice calm as he pulled you closer, wrapping an arm around your waist as if to show her exactly who that girlfriend was.
only then did the girl’s eyes flick over to you, and the brief look she gave you made your stomach twist.
it was quick—barely a second—but it was enough.
a subtle, almost disdainful glance, as if she couldn’t believe you were the one he was talking about.
“oh,” she said, her smile faltering for just a second before she composed herself.
“well, lucky her.” she flashed one last grin at jake, completely ignoring you again, before walking off with a dismissive shrug.
you stood there, frozen for a moment, the weight of her silent judgment hanging heavy in the air.
jake, meanwhile, didn’t seem to think much of it.
he chuckled softly, shaking his head as he turned to you. “that was random, huh?”
you forced a laugh, but it felt hollow. “yeah, random,” you mumbled, trying to shake off the insecurity that was beginning to build up.
jake didn’t notice the way your smile wavered, the way your grip on his hand loosened just slightly as you tried to make sense of what had just happened.
as the two of you continued walking through the mall, the girl’s words kept replaying in your head.
“you’re really cute. can i get your number?”
and the way she had looked at you afterward—it stung more than you wanted to admit.
jake was perfect in every way, and you… well, you were just you.
a little later, you excused yourself to go to the restroom, needing a moment to collect yourself.
jake had been nothing but kind, but your mind couldn’t stop racing with doubts.
you stepped into the bathroom, hoping to take a deep breath and calm the swirling storm of insecurities that had been creeping up on you since the moment that girl approached him.
as you washed your hands, you heard voices from the stall behind you.
you didn’t pay much attention at first, but then you caught a familiar name.
“did you see jake sim?” one of the girls asked, her voice dripping with excitement. “he’s so hot. but did you see who he’s with?”
your heart sank as you realized they were talking about you and jake.
you stayed still, not wanting to make a sound as they continued, their voices echoing in the empty restroom.
“yeah, i saw,” another girl chimed in. “honestly, i don’t get it. he’s way out of her league.”
you felt your chest tighten—the sting of their words was sharp, each sentence feeling like a slap in the face.
“she’s not even that pretty,” the first girl continued, her voice lowering to a cruel whisper.
“i mean, look at him. he’s gorgeous. i don’t know what he sees in her.”
the words hit you like a punch to the gut—you stared at your reflection in the mirror, feeling your throat close up as you tried to hold back tears.
“out of her league”—the phrase repeated in your head over and over again, their voices feeding every insecurity you had about your relationship with jake.
you left the restroom as quickly as you could, avoiding eye contact with the girls who were now laughing as they exited their stalls.
when you walked back to where jake was waiting, you felt different—like a weight had settled on your shoulders, dragging you down with each step.
jake greeted you with his usual smile, holding out your drink.
“there you are. took a while. everything okay?” he asked, his voice filled with the same warmth that used to comfort you.
but right now, you couldn’t shake the feeling that you didn’t deserve that warmth.
you nodded, taking the drink from him without meeting his eyes.
“yeah, i’m fine,” you mumbled, but it was a lie, and jake knew it.
as the two of you walked through the mall again, jake kept glancing at you, noticing how quiet you had gotten.
normally, you’d be chatting and laughing with him, but now, you were distant, your responses short and dismissive.
the silence between you felt heavy, and he could sense something was wrong.
“hey,” he said softly, stopping and turning to face you. “what’s going on? you’ve been really quiet since earlier.”
you looked away, biting your lip as you felt the tears prickling at the corners of your eyes.
you didn’t want to say it—you didn’t want to admit how much those girls had gotten to you.
but the insecurity had built up so much that it was impossible to ignore.
“why are you even with me, jake?” the question slipped out before you could stop it, your voice trembling with the weight of everything you had been holding in.
“i mean, you’re jake sim. you’re… perfect. and i’m just… me. you could have any girl in school, so why me?”
jake’s face softened, confusion flickering in his eyes as he took a step closer to you.
“what? what are you talking about?”
you let out a shaky breath, trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to fall.
“these girls in the bathroom… they were talking about us. about how you’re ‘out of my league.’ and honestly, i’ve been thinking that too. i just don’t get it, jake. why me?”
jake’s expression darkened slightly as he glanced over your shoulder, spotting the girls who had just exited the restroom, still whispering and giggling as they passed by.
he understood immediately—his grip on your hand tightened, and he gently turned your face to look at him, his eyes filled with nothing but affection and adoration.
“baby,” he said softly, his voice low and serious. “don’t ever listen to what other people say about us. about you.”
you looked up at him, your heart aching with the weight of your doubts, but jake’s eyes were clear and sincere as he held your gaze.
“i’m with you because i want to be with you,” he continued, his voice unwavering.
“because you’re everything to me. i don’t care what anyone else thinks. you’re funny, and smart, kind— and the most beautiful girl i’ve ever seen. you get me in ways no one else does. i love the way you make me laugh when i’m having a bad day. i love how you’re always there for me, no matter what.”
his words sank in slowly, the sincerity in his voice cutting through the insecurity that had been clouding your mind.
he reached up, gently cupping your face in his hands, his thumbs brushing away the tears that had slipped down your cheeks.
“you are perfect for me,” he whispered, his forehead resting against yours. “you’re not ‘just’ anything. you’re everything i’ve ever wanted.”
before you could respond, jake leaned down, capturing your lips in a soft, gentle kiss.
it was slow, filled with the warmth and reassurance you desperately needed.
his touch was gentle, and in that moment, every doubt, every insecurity began to fade away, replaced by the overwhelming feeling of being wanted—not just by anyone, but by jake.
when he finally pulled away, his eyes met yours again, filled with the same intense softness.
“don’t ever doubt why i’m with you,” he murmured. “you’re the only one i want. always.”
and in that moment, wrapped in jake’s arms, you believed him.

“just leave me alone!”
megumi storms off towards his room as gojo’s easygoing expression falls away instantly, leaving you conflicted as to who you should check on first. (which is difficult to do when you remember that thirteen year old boys hate talking about their emotions almost as much as twenty-five year old ones do.)
you decide that megumi needs a few minutes to cool down, so you step into the kitchen first, where your fiancé is tearing open a new bag of candy a little more harshly than necessary. you lean your hip against the counter as he murmurs a greeting.
“what was that about?” you ask.
“he hates me,” he shrugs.
“he’s a thirteen year old boy. he hates everybody,” you point out, but it fails to make him laugh like you’d intended. instead, his frown only deepens and he mutters,
“he doesn’t hate you.”
you tilt your head slightly. “is that what this is about? me being his favourite?”
“i don’t know,” he sighs. “i…i just can’t seem to connect with him the way you’ve always been able to.”
“that’s not true,” you say quickly, unsure of what exactly you can say to make him feel better. it’s not like him to be so insecure. “you guys have had your moments.”
“not lately. i just keep pissing him off,” he huffs, unwrapping and popping a piece of candy into his mouth. “did i do something?”
you open up the fridge to pull some ingredients for lunch, sighing. “i don’t think so, but nanami, shoko, and i were texting about it the other day—”
“wait, you’re in a group chat with nanami and shoko?”
“oh yeah,” you nod, setting your vegetables on the counter. “it’s mostly memes, but sometimes we talk about how messed up you are.”
he blinks at you a few times before muttering that you’d get back to that later. “what’d they say?”
“they quoted a lot of freud, but the gist of it was that it’s normal for fathers and sons to butt heads.”
he frowns deeply at that. “so what should i do?”
“be patient. he’ll come around eventually.”
“easy for you to say,” he huffs. “you’re the only mother figure he’s ever known. he’s already had a dad.”
“satoru, he’s thirteen. he’s officially been with us longer than he was with toji.”
you study his conflicted expression as he turns that information over in his mind. “okay, how about this? i was going to take him to the mall to buy new clothes after lunch, but why don’t you go with him instead?”
“that’s a great idea!” he exclaims, pressing his hands together excitedly. “i’ll take him to the bookstore too! can you find out what’s on his reading list?”
“he’s not a little kid anymore,” you remind him. “you can’t just buy his affection with a new book.”
“i’ll buy him two, then.”
“i love where your heart is at,” you start slowly. “but you just…have to give him space to let him come to you.”
he groans loudly, coming up behind you to press his forehead into the crook of your neck. you smile, tilting your head to the side and reaching up to pat his hair.
“i guess this is good practice for when we have our own kid,” he mutters, stiffening when he feels your hand still in his hair.
“our own kid, huh? so does that mean you’re done bringing home strays?”
“you three are all i need,” he tells you, pressing a kiss to your cheek. “whatever happens next…is just a bonus.”
BONUS:
[you] [1 attachment]
[nanami] Why is he dressed like Gojo?
[shoko]: like father like son huh
[you] satoru had a quarter-life crisis yesterday. just a small one.
[shoko] i’m not surprised. his life is like a shakespearean tragedy.
[nanami] That is accurate.
[you] he’s trying to bond with megumi.
[shoko] by dressing him like he’s emotionally unavailable?
[you] what does that even mean?
[shoko] the sunglasses
[you] ?
[nanami] Elaborate further, please.
[shoko] eyes are the windows to the soul.

Antonio met Yoltic at The Beehive when it had just opened for business two years ago. Like a normal person, he was there to get his clothes fitted and nothing more. However, Yoltic sensed Antonio's "vibes" and decided to be the extrovert to "adopt" this broody introvert. Antonio won't outright admit it, but Yoltic is a cool guy to hang out with. Once they started spending more time together, Yoltic casually mentioned how Dani had been struggling to find a job ever since they moved from Mexico to the United States. For mental health reasons, she did not want to be a teacher again, but no other places were open-minded enough to her. Antonio happened to be in need of a paralegal, so he took her under his wing and trained her. The rest is history!
NOTE: Dulce doesn't mind geeks, she just can't imagine Antonio being a D&D player! I've played it before too, by the way. Fun game! My character was a vampire named Madame Blade lol.
Transcript
DULCE: Well, I better go now.
DANIELA: Hey, guys!
DULCE: Oh my gosh!! Hey, Dani!!
ANTONIO: Hi, Daniela.
DANIELA: Looks like he took the news well...
DULCE: More or less.
DANIELA: Hey Tony, Yoltic wanted me to ask if you were still up for Dungeons and Dragons tonight.
DULCE: Hold the phone. YOU play Dungeons and Dragons?
ANTONIO: What about it?
DULCE: STOP!! No way!! Mr. “Dark and Mysterious” over here is a geek!!! [Cackles]
DULCE: What’s your character?! An orc? No, no, probably something lame like a human.
DANIELA: He’s actually the Dungeon Master. He writes the campaigns for us.
[Dulce’s laughter intensifies.]
DULCE: That’s even worse!! No, better!!!
DANIELA: You should join us sometime! You’re very imaginative.
DULCE: Me?
DANIELA: Don’t act like you didn’t read comic books as a kid.
DULCE: Fair point.
DULCE: Anyway, I gotta go!!! Bye guys!
DANIELA: Have a safe flight!
ANTONIO: Answer the emails.
ANTONIO: Why are you looking at me like that?
DANIELA: Oh, no reason.
ANTONIO: I’m not buying that.
DANIELA: She keeps you on your toes, huh?
ANTONIO: What she does is raise my blood pressure by an exorbitant amount. Remind me again why I took her case.
DANIELA: For the same reason you hired me? You have a good heart.
ANTONIO: [Scoffs]
DANIELA: And that’s why you would have never taken Caruso’s offer.
ANTONIO: Wouldn’t dream of it. Let’s get out of here. Tell Yoltic to get some chips for everyone.

While it wasn’t quite so early in the morning when the infamous Red of Hearts decided to barge into her office, again, it was around the time Uma was about to sit down and enjoy a quick cup of coffee before the more hectic parts of her day would begin. So perhaps you could forgive her for entertaining the thought of throwing the red head out the window. It was only for a second, she would assure you. As a principle she must not condone violence.
As a pirate, well, that’s different.
But she’s actually gotten quite use to Red coming into her office what feels like every other day, sometimes welcomed sometimes not, always for one reason or another. That a part of her actually kind of expected it.
What she did not expect was for Red to fling/splay herself upon the couch as if she was in a therapy session and for the first words out of her mouth to be. “Chloe won’t kiss me.”
Uma very nearly did a spit take as she placed her mug down upon her desk. “What?” Was the girl really coming to her Principal for relationship advice? Not that she was any bad at it, but really?
Red ignored the sound of Uma nearly choking in favor of her own problems. “At first I thought it was because she didn’t actually like me like that. That she only agreed to date me because I had no experience with love and she felt bad for me. I mean, every time I tried to take our relationship to the next level she always turned away, how could I not think that right?”
“Hmm.”
“Except I finally confronted her about it and you know what she says?”
“I can’t imagine what it could be.” Uma genuinely means that too, everyone knows Chloe really likes Red, like a lot. Whatever is holding her back has to be rather significant.
“She said, I can’t kiss you Red, if I do then I’ll have to marry you.”
Oh hex, Uma should not have tried to take another sip so soon. This time her throat was too preoccupied to even get the word out so she thought it in her head. ‘What?’ Fortunately the lack of response didn’t matter to Red in the least.
“Suffice to say, that really threw me for a loop so I very calmly and gently asked her ‘what the hex are you talking about?’ And her response was ‘that’s how it always happens, Red. Once true loves kiss is shared it’s marriage and happily ever after. Don’t get me wrong, I really like you, and don’t mind at all the thought of marrying you. But we’re only sixteen, and what if you find out being tied down with me is not what you wanted. After all you’re all about-“
“Breaking rules and causing trouble?”
“She used the word freedom.”
“Course she did. Red, did you come to me for reassurance that wedding bells won’t start ringing the second your lips touch your Charming’s?”
Though she provides no response Red gives her a look that is actually rather innocent coming from her, cluing Uma in that she’s on the right track.
“Look, I can’t say that it won’t. She’s right, these fairytales feel like they happen fast. You two have all the makings of a fairytale if I ever saw one, and I was even there to witness Ben and Mal back in the day.” She pauses for a moment as she considers her next words. “But let me ask you something. Would that really be so bad?”
“I’m…not sure.” Red’s response is rather honest and genuine so Uma continues with the same.
“Red, these people didn’t get married because their fairytale told them to. It’s because they loved each other so much that the thought of cementing it in stone, or carving it out into the hull of a ship just felt right.”
Red really looked as if she was truly taking in what Uma was saying…for once.
“Now, to think you’ll be married so soon after your first kiss is a bit of an exaggeration. That kid is surprisingly sheltered for one so good with swords.”
“Tell me about it.”
“But, if it does happen some time in the future. I ask again, would it really be so bad?”
After a moment of thought Red offers Uma a small and genuine smile. “No, I don’t think it would.”
“Now go get that kiss.” Huh, why does that line remind her of something from years ago, royals are so weird. “And for the love of the sea can you please stop breaking into my office with or without me in it!”
“Thanks a lot, Principal Uma, I’ll see you later.” Red calls back as she leaves rather cheerfully, causing Uma to grin despite herself.
“Red of Hearts, I know you heard me.”
….
“Red!”

“I cherish you” | N.RK ff ༄
Tumblr media
༄ Last year’s Valentine’s Day marked the day you and your boyfriend Riki first starting dating. Ever since then, he spoils you on the 14th day of every month in honor of your love story…
🍒 pairing bf!nishimura riki x fem!reader genre romance, fluff 🍒
༄ wc 1.1k ~ written with black reader in mind ~ requested !
Tumblr media
You found your boyfriend in your shared apartment bathroom doing his typical morning routine. You walked up behind him, snaking your hands beneath his shirt to pull him closer. Pressing your cheek against his back, you could smell a new body wash he must’ve used. Or maybe it was cologne?
“Morning,” Riki mumbled through a mouthful of minty foam, wiping his mouth before turning to kiss the top of your head.
“Good morning,” you returned warmly.
He ran a clawed hand through your hair before his fingers got caught in your curls. You winced at the sudden tug before giggling at the worried expression that waved over Riki’s face.
“Sorry, baby! Did I hurt you?”
“No, Riki, but you did remind me that I need to comb my hair,” you smiled, freeing him from your clingy grasp.
You searched through the bathroom drawer for a few products to style your hair. In the meantime, your boyfriend was busy lathering his face with shaving cream.
“Uh,” you started confused, “what’re you doing?”
“Prepping to shave my beard.”
You snorted, “Your what?”
“I’m not as young as I was when we first met, y’know? This is what men do.”
“Mhm, and who told you that?”
“Heeseung-hyung. He’s one of the best people I can go to for advice. Especially with girls.”
“Oh, so you’re a man and I’m just a girl?”
“For now, yes. Though, maybe in a few years I’ll make you my woman if you stick around long enough,” he winked, making you cringe but in a loving way.
“Hey, I wanna try,” you chirped, snatching the razor from his hand.
“Woah, ____! Did you forget there’s a sharp blade on that thing?”
“Oh, c’mon! You’re a man now, remember? Don’t tell me you’re scared of your girlfriend.”
He shook his head at your teasing, “only when she’s on her period… that’s when she get's really crazy.”
You nudged him in the shoulder, making him giggle.
“Okay, now hold still,” you said, guiding him by his chin as you slid the razor against his face, checking after each stroke for any access hair. “Riki, there’s nothing on here!”
“Gimme that,” he said, taking the razor from your hand to examine it for himself. And to no one’s surprise, there wasn’t any hair on it.
“Ugh, this is useless,” he whined, wiping his face before leaving the bathroom.
You followed after him, “Riki, is everything okay? Why’re you putting so much stress into getting ready today?”
He looked at you with offended eyes, “Don’t tell me you forgot today marks our 14th month anniversary.”
Suddenly, everything started to make sense.
“Riki, you don’t have to try and impress me. I love you just the way you are like I always have,” you smiled, holding his hands in yours.
“I love you too, ____, but that doesn’t mean I’m not gonna spoil you on our anniversary.”
Riki was never one to consider gift-giving to be one of his love languages. Not until he asked you to be his girlfriend on Valentine's Day over a year ago.
The day started with him showering you with gifts and praise as an attempt to earn your love which he already had. These days, your romantic boyfriend can't help but to celebrate the day he won you, even though his friends call him a simp for it.
And in perfect cliche fashion, your anniversary happens to fall on the 14th day of every month, which is what brings you here today.
“Spoil me, huh?” You grinned, “so what do you have planned? I mean, sometimes I feel like we’ve done everything already.”
“You know I'll always think of something new. But for now, it's a surprise. You’ll find out after we finished getting ready.”
You and your boyfriend shared the bathroom for the next 25 minutes as you two got dressed together, wearing the cutest matching red outfits that he picked out a whole week prior to today.
“You look absolutely stunning, ____,” he marveled, taking in your frame like a work of art.
Your stomach fluttered at his remark, “Oh please, you’re just proud of your work.”
“Maybe,” he smirked, pulling a large bouquet of red roses from behind his back.
“Riki,” you began before he took your hand, interlacing your fingers around the flower stems.
“I wanna get a picture of you like this,” he smiled, counting down from three before snapping a quick picture, “Don’t worry, I won’t post it anywhere,” he said, noticing that you seemed a bit awkward.
You walked outside with his arm linked in yours, still holding the rose bouquet. You two made your way past the familiar shops that lined the city streets beyond your apartment, taking in the beautiful early morning scenery.
That’s when you two spotted a band of instrumentalists, harmonizing to a romantic tune. You looked up at Riki with playful eyes, communicating to him that you wanted to dance.
Knowing your boyfriend, he would happily oblige to any opportunity to dance, especially with the love of his life.
“May I,” he asked cornily, bowing before you.
“Yes, Riki, you may.”
He took the bouquet from your grasp, placing it on a nearby coffee table before tucking a rose behind your ear.
“And for you,” you smiled, placing one of the roses between his teeth.
He took your hand in his, pulling you close before guiding you across the floor along with the music, bracing your lower back.
Your hands sat at his shoulders before getting lost in his hair, staring into his piercing eyes as the heart-warming melody came to a sudden stop.
It was starting to rain.
The band busied themselves with packing up their instruments before fleeing the moist environment.
"Welp, that was fun while it lasted," Riki chimed, grabbing the bouquet before walking back in the direction of your apartment.
"Hey, I thought we were gonna spend the day out," you pouted confused.
"I know, but I had a picnic date planned in the park, which I doubt would be much fun in this weather."
He held the flowers over your two heads as a way to shield yourselves from the down pour.
"Sooo, what do we do, now?"
"Hmm," he hummed in thought, "we could always just run around the city and hope we don't get struck by lightening. Orrrrr, we could have a dance off in the rain! First one to slip loses."
"Riki!"
"What? That's better than me sulking over how a few grey clouds ruined our anniversary."
You looked at his face which fell from its original enthusiasm, trying to think of something to cheer him up.
You smacked the bouquet out of his hand, running ahead of him.
"Yah, ____! I paid good money for these!"
"Last one to the apartment's a rotten egg," you giggled, hardly getting far with your high heels against the rain.
Riki counted from five, giving you a few more seconds to get ahead before sprinting ahead of you, laughing as you pouted in defeat.
Fin.

And, Honey, I’ll Make It All Okay
Dad!Jake “Hangman” Seresin x female reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Jake might be getting used to his mother being around you and his baby girl, but he still had zero interest in allowing his father within a hundred miles of his family. Sometimes, though, things happen that aren’t in his control, despite how desperately he needs them to be.
Warnings: Alcohol, hints of alcoholism and past abuse (not physical), cursing. Protective Seresins working together like the damn power rangers.
Notes: Suggested by an anon / Part of the Oh, Baby Universe. A follow up to It’s What You Make It
Words: 4060
------
“So, this little one is a Seresin, huh?”
Jake looked up from the book in his lap—the one he’d bought when he realized he was two whole months behind you in parenting knowledge and felt a desperation to catch up quickly before he ruined his daughter's childhood. He set it aside, meeting his mother's raised brow.
“I was told you legally changed her name,” she continued as she bounced Eve on her lap, gentle jolts up and down making the girl giggle.
The memory of his birthday present that held within it so many promises of the future you’d share was still strong. He thought of it every morning, loving how it entered his mind like clockwork the second he looked down at your sleeping face beside him. You were in it with him for the long haul—you and Eve—and you’d made it so wonderfully known in a way that could not be outdone.
Jake smiled, not just at the reminder of your gift, but for many reasons. For the happiness on his daughter’s face as she sat with her grandmother, for the ease with which you and his mother got along, for the way she proved to so seamlessly blend into his family over the last four days. He smiled because he had every right to. Just as he had every right not to tell her about his daughter’s change of name.
Despite obviously gaining your trust, she had yet to fully gain his. He wanted to let that door stay open, but she’d be back in Texas within a day, and there was no guarantee she could keep his secrets upon her return home. And if his father knew the choice made over Eve’s name, he wouldn’t be able to keep himself away.
That was the last thing Jake needed. The last thing you needed.
“Yea,” he said, swallowing, sitting up a bit straighter in the leather armchair. “We did.”
“Anyone else’s name you plan to change soon?”
Jake hesitated. He hadn’t planned to tell his parents. Not about any of it. Not where or how or when he chose to propose. Not about the ring he had made months ago. Not about his wedding, his marriage. Not anything about the details of his life after the bridge they’d set aflame. And he still wasn’t sure his mother had earned the knowledge, but Jake couldn’t deny how obvious he made his intentions without so much as uttering a single word about it. He wanted you, forever, and not a soul with two eyes would think otherwise.
“Um—I’m working on it.”
“Do you have a ring?”
“I do.”
“Good.” His mother gave a firm nod. “She’s perfect for you.”
That was an understatement, he thought. It was not enough. Perfect for him, truly, but somehow more, too.
Shaking his head, he said, “She’s everything. She and my baby girl are absolutely everything.”
His mother was silent. Her wide grin traveled from her son to the girl in her arms when a tiny hand reached high to touch her cheek.
“Sweet girl,” she sighed, taking the little hand in hers.
Eve was the first to accept his mother.
From the moment their eyes connected a bond was formed that Jake could never fairly break, whether he eventually learned to give his complete trust to his mother or not. Though Eve was so young, there was no doubt in Jake’s mind that she would feel the absence of his mother if they were no longer in one another’s lives. But maintaining that relationship would come with conditions—requirements—mostly along the lines of keeping his father away from you and Eve at all times, in every way possible.
Of course, there was an additional possibility; one his Gram had suggested despite it going against the will of her own son. And you hadn’t argued it, instead leaving the choice to him. A choice that once offered, he really couldn’t go back on. But it was also an opportunity that if taken would actually mean something—a massive leap in the right direction.
Jake leaned forward in the chair, resting his elbows on the tips of his knees and clasping his hands. They wrung slowly, nerves exposed through the subtle act.
“Mom,” he began. He sucked his bottom lip between his teeth and nibbled lightly on the chapped skin. She took her eyes off the girl. He released his lip. “You should stay,” he finally said.
There was a brief flash across her irises. She was just as surprised at hearing his suggestion as he was when deciding to speak it. Her lips quirked a tad, but a moment later they fell back into their natural line, the slight downturned shape making the pinch between her brows seem all the more disheartening.
“Sweetheart…” She sighed again before hugging her granddaughter closer.
“Let me help you. I can find you a place close by,” he said, finding himself rushing his words from a sudden need to convince her. “You and Dad separated once. You can—”
“Jake, stop.” She stood fast, sharply, impressively without stirring Eve, and closed the few steps between her spot on the couch and Jake’s chair. Carefully handing the infant over, she said, “I think I’ll find your Gram and take her to lunch.”
Her voice was meek on that last bit, too much like her approach with him days before when she showed up out of nowhere begging to be a part of his life. She smoothed the nonexistent wrinkles of her skirt and turned on her heel.
“Just think about it,” Jake said to her back, and from her stuttered step he knew she heard him. “Alright?”
She said nothing. And walked on.
You’d been itching to get him alone all day. Jake saw it in your consistent stare that wandered from his grandmother to him whenever he was in range of his mother. But his Gram had occupied your time—his mother Eve’s—and he wasn’t able to give you the chance to drag him away like you had so clearly wanted. In your shared room, though, nothing kept the two of you apart. And while Jake had plans—plans that would definitely require him holding his hand over your mouth from your inability to keep quiet (which, without his mother and grandmother in his house, he would’ve loved)---you had other ideas.
“Did you ask?”
His brow arched at the childlike curiosity you were trying to contain; at how you were a fraction away from bouncing on your toes in anticipation for the answer. Not with excitement, but with an anxious intensity that seeped through the innocence of your question. He nodded. “She didn’t give me an answer.”
And in that same childlike theme, your face fell into a pout. You sighed and plopped down on the mattress, the nightie that barely covered your mid-thighs rising higher. Jake’s fingers twitched to slide along the smooth expanse of skin, but you sighed again and your hands slapped down on those thighs in some odd form of defeat that Jake didn’t understand, and he couldn’t help but notice the distress on your face.
His mind switched within an instant. Your worry his worry. And he crouched in front of you, taking one of your hands in his.
“Honey, what’s wrong?”
You shook your head but he didn’t buy it.
“You really want her to stay?” He examined your face. The frown, the pinched brows, the bitten lip. It was not a look he ever cared to see. “Why so badly?”
You rose quickly, unintentionally knocking him off kilter. You reached a hand out to help steady him, which he took and refused to release even as you tried to begin your pacing. It was only one step that you took before Jake twisted you, wrapping you in his arms to calm you down.
“Honey…”
You were staring up at him, waiting; for what, he didn’t know, but he waited just the same. Until you were ready.
“Jake, with Eve I felt so alone. I had her and I loved her so much—so much—but my mother wasn’t easy on me. Living with her wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted to be with you. I wanted my family to be with you. And I just…” You took a breath, looking away from him. His knuckle under your chin made gazes lock again. “I see that in your mother,” you continued. “She’s told me about your dad, and I thought if she had the choice she would stay here, with us…with Eve.”
The tenseness in his shoulders from your distress loosened a tad. “It was your idea? I thought—”
You shrugged. “Your Gram knows your mother better than I do. I figured if she was the one to mention the idea then you’d be more likely to consider it.”
He couldn’t find his words. Jake's heartbeat sped at a pace he instantly recognized. The pace he'd felt when he first saw you behind the bar at the Hard Deck. The same pace when you walked into Rooster's house with Eve. The pace that told him he was in love with you, then and now.
He pulled you closer, and with a hand sliding behind your neck, he kissed you. You squeaked into the unexpectedness before settling into it, letting your fingers curl into the fabric of his t-shirt at his waist. Jake was thorough, savoring. Your lips sweet against his, tongue lightly teasing, hand weaving into your hair the way he knew you liked. He wanted to give you everything in that kiss. Because in you was that “more” he wasn’t quite able to explain. Perfect for him…but somehow more. It was the part of you that other people didn’t have. The part that took on responsibilities that weren't yours, and tried to protect people that hadn’t done the same for you. A kindness that was so fucking rare. So unbelievable.
You broke the kiss well before he was ready, a question on your face.
“I love you," he said, cupping your jaw, thumbs stroking your cheeks. He shook his head, like he always did when he paused for a moment to take in his life. Never would he have imagined the luck that had washed over him. The luck to have found you, to have you want him as much as he did you, to share a daughter with you. Jake wasn’t known for picturing much of a future with any woman until he saw you, and the very idea of not having met was a tight knot in his chest. It was impossible now. No one could go back in time and change the course set, but even the thought of what might not have been was too much for him to take. "You are so—"
A knock on a door silenced him.
Jake counted three seconds and the sound repeated. He hadn’t misheard.
His hands fell away from your face as both your heads whipped to the bedroom door.
His daughter was asleep—that was his first concern. His baby girl was trying to get her rest and that booming through the walls of the house might've been enough to wake her.
Then he recalled the hour.
"Who in the—"
"Stay here," Jake ordered as he stepped toward the door, a hand extended behind him, palm up and facing you to try to stop what he knew was coming.
"No way." You were already tying the strings of your silk robe at your waist.
He sighed, looking back. "Honey—"
"No."
It boomed again.
Jake winced, waiting for the high-pitched wails from down the hall. They didn't come so he left the room and began down the stairs with you at his heels.
"Will you at least stay in the kitchen?"
"No, Jake."
"Jesus, woman,” he huffed. The hall?"
He could feel your glare at the back of his head. "...Fine."
"Thank you."
That created at least twenty paces between you and whatever was on the other side of that door. He wouldn't be able to get you any farther away, so that would have to do.
The noise grew louder with each bang—a beast trying to break through the door as Jake walked closer and wrapped his fingers around the knob. A piece of him screamed to turn back, pretend it wasn't there until it went away, but the territorial part in him said this was his house, his woman, his baby, his family, and he wasn’t going to be hiding in his own home.
He eased it open just the slightest. But even that was too much.
His father shoved his way into the house in such a flash of movement that there wasn’t time to react. Jake stumbled, his back hitting hard against the wall. He grunted and looked up. His father stood still, chest rising and falling heavily under a tailored, buttoned jacket while his eyes scanned over the length of you.
Jake didn't have a second to take in the shock of his father's presence. He shifted into defense. "Don't you dare look at her," he growled.
His father gestured lazily in your direction before meeting Jake's murderous stare. "Your whore, I'm guessing?"
The hitch of your breath practically echoed, the soft whisper somehow strong enough to bounce off the walls.
Jake instantly felt the shame of it; of failing to keep the secret of his father's disgusting opinions from revealing. And that sound that left your throat cracked his heart right down the middle.
His father tsked. "So transparent."
Jake stepped forward and slammed his hand into the older man's shoulder, forcing his stance away from you and towards him. "Get the fuck out of my house."
"Nope," he chuckled, or something mildly akin. It was sloppy, jumbled together. An odd sound barely recognizable as a laugh.
And then Jake could see it. He could hear it. Could practically feel it. "You've been drinking," he said.
"Airlines are generous for men like me; you know that. Now, I'm here for your mother." He cupped his hands around his mouth. Took a deep breath. "Eliza!"
"Jake…"
Your voice quivered, drawing Jake's eye. Eve began sobbing upstairs from the incessant screams of his mother's name. Panic coursed through his veins at a rapid rate.
"Honey, go to Eve."
"But—"
"Please," he begged, but you hesitated. "Honey, please."
You'd barely made a move before his mother was walking into the room, her granddaughter tucked in her arms and mother-in-law following behind. His mother's face didn't alter at the sight
of her husband.
"Here," she said, handing you a hiccupping, wet-faced Eve. "She needs her mother."
She made her way down the hall and smiled sadly when she reached Jake. Her hand rested on his bicep and she lightly squeezed. "And they need you." She nudged her head in your direction.
"Mom—"
"Go to your family. This is not your responsibility."
Jake glanced at his father; at the smug look on his face ever so slightly veiled by an alcohol-induced haze.
Looking back at his mother, he said, "It's not yours, either."
"We're leaving, Eliza."
His father was growing impatient, and his mother continued on as though she wasn't concerned with the ticking time bomb just feet away from her. She was, as usual, handling him the way she did best. Calmly. Cleverly. A true professional in an art no one would ever have ambitions to hone.
She nudged Jake over until he relented and did as she asked. "John," she sighed, turning to him, "you do not want to be arrested in a different state. You'll be fired within the week."
"You're not calling the police."
"Jake will," she replied. "He won't give it a second thought. You're scaring his family."
"His family." Jake's father scoffed, crossing his arms. "An insignificant woman and a child that isn't his."
Your eyes snapped up to Jake's and he hugged you tighter, Eve nestled between your bodies. He knew he'd have to explain it all because you'd undoubtedly demand it of him. And he owed you that, at the very least. Even though the very thought of speaking it aloud stirred his stomach and made him wish there was something, anything, he could sacrifice in return for not having to tell you. He’d willingly snap one of his own bones if it meant he didn’t have to see your face twist in pain and anger and shame, but it was too late for that.
"She's his, John," his mother insisted. "And you need to go."
"Then get your things."
"I'm staying."
"The hell you are!"
It was then that Gram shot herself out from the sideline, a short ball of fiery fury, hands clenched at her sides. "Enough!"
Jake’s father squinted as if there were a true flame assaulting his vision, but when his altered brain caught up with him, his eyes widened, his head jerked back, he stared at his own mother like he was seeing her for the very first time. As he was, Jake understood then. His father hadn’t sensed her there amidst the scene he was making.
Jake didn’t know how his father came to learn of where his wife had gone, but he clearly hadn’t expected the same betrayal from the woman who raised him. And such an older man—a man who had always embodied power and force, determination and demand—was just barely restraining himself from shrinking where he stood.
“I tried so hard,” Gram said, practically shaking, from anger or angst Jake couldn’t say, “to keep you from being like this. I didn’t want you to be like him. I tried so hard and I failed so greatly, and I don’t know how, because I put everything I had into it,” Tears were streaming down her cheeks, one of them dropping onto the hardwood floor. She sniffled. “Jake is not like you, or the men who came before you. And thank god he has always been strong enough to keep you from ruining that.” You buried your face into Jake’s neck as she spoke. “He’s a protector; He does his job. And I will do mine. So you aren’t taking anyone home, I am taking you home.”
Shock fell across her son’s face too quickly to have the chance to be concealed. His lips parted, then they curved to form words. “You don’t—”
“Jake, dear,” his Gram started, head turned to the side to help carry her voice over her shoulder, “Would you call us a car? Surely there is still one available at this hour.”
You took a sudden step forward and Jake instinctually wrapped his fingers around your arm to keep you and his daughter close. “Eve, we aren’t going to let you sit in an airport until you find a flight back to Texas,” you said.
“Eliza I and were leaving first thing in the morning anyway. We will take her ticket. She will stay. We will go.”
“I’m not going anywhere!” Jake’s father snapped. He hadn’t bothered to notice his wife making her way closer to their son. He hadn’t so much as glanced at his new granddaughter. Jake wasn’t surprised. His father rarely paid attention to anything. Giving something attention meant acknowledging it was real which meant deciding whether or not to care. He didn’t care. He never did. And it had been decades since much attention had been paid to anything other than himself and the control he refused to relinquish.
“Then Jake can call the cops instead,” Gram stated. The tears were gone, dried in lengthy lines down her face, but her tone conveyed her heartbreak. “As your mother, that is not what I would prefer, but one way or another you are leaving this house. Tonight.” She inhaled, expelling the heaviest of sighs through her nose. “So, what is it going to be, son?”
He watched you from the doorway as you leaned over your daughter’s crib, brushing her wispy hairs out of her face before running your finger softly along the plush cheek. You hadn’t said a word when his Gram and father left. You let him kiss your temple and the top of his baby girl’s head, then you were slipping from his arms to put your child back to sleep as if the night were any other.
Jake felt lost in the mess—everything he didn’t want you to witness accompanied by the man he never wanted you to meet. The man he came from that he was terrified would make you question just who the father of your daughter might be capable of one day becoming. It would kill him…losing you. Like pliers yanking out chunks of his heart bit by bit until he was left with nothing.
You finally straightened your spine and Jake stepped up behind you, curling his arms around your waist and pulling your back flush against his chest. Need your touch, he thought. As much of your body against his as could be managed. Your hand settled on his forearm when he began to press slow, gentle kisses from your jaw to your neck to your shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered between each meeting of lips and skin. “I’m so sorry.”
Leaning your head back into his shoulder, eyelids closing, you said, “It wasn’t your fault.”
“He came into our home. Insulted you. Scared our daughter.” His hold on you tightened. He inhaled you. “I swore to myself I wouldn’t let anything like that happen.”
Your eyes opened and your head lifted and you met his close gaze. “Baby, we’re alright,” you swore. “We’re safe.”
He wanted to shake his head.
“Look at her,” you said, shifting your line of vision to the baby girl in her crib. “She’s safe. She’s perfect.”
“And you?”
Lightly chuckling, you said, “Intact, if you can’t tell.”
Any other day, he would’ve laughed with you. He would have smiled. He would’ve kissed you and taken your teasing for unintentionally getting carried away. He would’ve led you back to your shared bedroom and you’d have fallen atop the mattress and continued kissing and stripping clothes, and you’d get lost in enjoying one another as you so often easily did.
But this wasn’t any other day.
“I’m not like him,” Jake whispered. “I won’t ever be.”
Despite his hold on you, you spun harshly in his arms. Your brow furrowed. Anger? Confusion? He guessed both. “No, you won’t,” you stressed. “That goes without saying, Jake.”
When he didn't respond, your hands cupped his cheeks. “Jake, I know you better than anyone. Had that man not shared your eyes, I would never have believed you came from him. Do you understand me?"
Your soft palms, warm and gentle, and your sweet words, nice and thick like a coating of honey over his body, completely threw him off the edge of the cliff he’d been teetering on all night. His nose stung. His eyes felt pressure under the threat of tears. So many tears were shed in his home in such a short period of time. A new one escaped and your face shattered.
“Oh, baby,” you cooed, swiping the droplet away with your thumb. “Come here.”
You unraveled yourself from him and he hated it, but then you took his hand and encouraged his steps closer to the crib. Reaching in, you lifted your sleeping daughter, nestling her against your breast. “Kiss our girl,” you said, “Because she’s safe.”
Jake sniffed and swallowed and leaned down to press a long kiss to Eve’s forehead. You nodded and returned her to her little bed, then took his hand again and led him to your bedroom. When you closed the door you faced him, dropped your robe, and walked back into his space, into the cocoon of his arms.
“Now kiss me.” Your voice was low in the nonexistent space between you. But there was a neediness woven through the words. A neediness he understood incredibly well. “Because I’m safe.”
Lips met. Your arms circled his neck. His fingers slipped under the hem of the silken fabric you wore, thin material rising as his hands moved further up your body. More skin, that’s all he wanted. Just…more.
When you pulled back, he rested his forehead on yours.
“We’re always safe with you Jake,” you muttered. "And we won’t forget it."

Saturday, January 9th; 9:15 AM - At Lucy's Place.
I gently hug the pillow against me, letting out a long sigh from between my lips. Negative thoughts immediately flood my mind, even though I've only just woken up. Sometimes, I wonder why I'm still alive. My life is so miserable that I doubt I'd be missed by many. I tell myself that the only thing that has saved me is my new life. I blink in this unfamiliar room, where I realize I'm alone in a large bed and a room that isn't mine. The events of last night come rushing back, reminding me where I am. I understand my earlier thoughts even better now. A muffled groan escapes my mouth as I realize that Lucy knew about my night terrors and that it’s not something new. Although she seemed calm last night, she must be upset with me for hiding things she didn't want hidden. I’ll have to face the consequences now. She must have held back last night because of my state, but I doubt it'll be the same this morning. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s waiting for me in the living room to discuss it. I check the time before forcing myself out of bed. Hiding from life by staying in bed is cowardly. That’s what my dad used to tell me when I was feeling down in Barcelona. I discreetly leave Lucy’s room and head down the hallway. Not seeing her around, I continue towards the living room. I smile when I find her standing with her back to me behind the counter. As I approach, I notice that she’s swapped her pajamas for jogging pants and a black t-shirt. When she turns around, she must be surprised to see me because she stops for a moment before finally smiling at me.
“Good morning, sleepyhead.”
“Hey,” I say timidly, blushing at the nickname.
“I didn’t expect to see you up this early.”
“I don’t sleep as long anymore…” I admit.
“That’s true,” she smiles. “I made breakfast. I hope you’re hungry.”
I relax for a moment, relieved that she doesn’t immediately bring up what happened last night.
“I’d never say no to breakfast,” I reply with a bit more confidence.
“Good. Sit down. What would you like to drink? Tea, hot chocolate? I imagine I don’t need to ask if you want coffee.”
“Hot chocolate, please.”
“Alright, I’ll make that for you. Sit down, everything’s ready.”
I nod gently and turn towards the dining table. Everything is indeed set out. It looks like she had time to prepare a real feast. I sit down, fidgeting in my chair. I’m not particularly comfortable, knowing what’s likely to be discussed soon around this table. Lucy joins me, placing my cup in front of me before sitting across from me with her own.
“Have you been up long?” I continue the conversation.
“Since seven-thirty. I couldn’t sleep, so I went for a run.”
“Oh! You’re brave…”
I distract myself by looking at the table. I don’t know where to look because there’s so much. She thought of everything. There are as many fruits as there are pastries and bread. She must have picked them up this morning. There’s also butter, jam, and even Nutella to go with it.
“Help yourself, that’s what it’s there for,” she invites.
I bite my lip and nod. I can’t bring myself to look at her, especially now that I remember we ended the night in the same bed… In her arms. Damn. Just thinking about it makes me even more uncomfortable.
“Ona,” she calls me, a touch of amusement in her voice.
I finally dare to lift my head and find her looking at me with her head tilted. I get the feeling she can read me like a book right now.
“I think it’s best we talk about it now, huh? I sense you’re going to go crazy before the end of the meal if we don’t.”
I blush, suddenly feeling really foolish. I can feel my heart racing with stress. Still, I nod to confirm what she’s saying. It’s best to talk about it now, to get it over with, even if it means she’ll chew me out properly. What surprises me is that Lucy is more relaxed than I expected. She almost seems to be teasing me. I take a deep breath before starting.
“I’m sorry for waking you up last night…”
My response makes her raise an eyebrow. It’s like she wasn’t expecting me to say that.
“Oh, so that’s all that’s bothering you?”
“Of course not,” I mumble.
“Relax. I’m not going to eat you, you know. Since when are you like this with me?”
Since I don’t want to disappoint you. That answer sticks in my throat. She doesn’t need to know that. Instead, I decide to be honest.
“I feel bad for hiding my episodes from you… Especially since it seems you already knew…”
“I did, yes. I was just waiting for you to come talk to me about it yourself,” she admits.
“Are you mad at me…?”
“A little. I think that if you hadn’t come here, who knows how long I would’ve had to wait for you to tell me.”
“I didn’t want to bother you with something so minor. You already do so much for me, and I was managing on my own until now. It frustrates me to have to turn to you every time something goes wrong with me,” I finish, averting my eyes.
My thoughts are so jumbled. I consider her a friend, but I don’t always feel like she sees me the same way. Sometimes, I feel more like her student and nothing more. It’s ridiculous because if that were the case, I wouldn’t even be here. She places her hand on mine, prompting me to look up.
“Stop thinking like that, it’s not true. I’m doing this as a friend, okay? Wiegman doesn’t ask me to solve your problems. I do it of my own free will because I care about you, and I feel the need to help.”
“It’s fine, I assure you… Everything’s okay for now.”
“Stop lying to me.”
“I’m not lying to you, it’s true. Since you came into my life, so much has gotten better! You have no idea how much you’ve helped me.”
She sighs, running a hand through her hair. She doesn’t seem to realize how deep of a hole she pulled me out of. The change is obvious.
“If what you’re saying is true, then you shouldn’t have any trouble confiding in me when you have a problem. That’s what helps you get better.”
“I do! I came to you when I didn’t know what major to choose. The same when I needed help studying.”
“I’m talking about real problems, Ona. Like your drug issue or your insomnia… See?”
“I do talk to you,” I sigh. “I told you about my problems with my mom and with Feli. You can’t deny that!”
“Maybe, but you’re always hesitant, and you often do it too late.”
“But put yourself in my shoes, damn it! You’ve never lived through what I’ve been through! It’s hard to open up when you’re not sure the person will still be there at the end!”
I freeze, realizing what I just let slip. I hate how easily she gets me to talk. I look up to see her expression soften.
“What are you talking about…?”
I sigh, running a hand through my hair. Now that I’ve started talking, she won’t let it go until she gets answers.
“How do I know we’ll stay in touch once all this is over, huh? I’m already scared you’ll drop me the day I don’t have any more problems to solve…”
“Where do you get these ideas?” she frowns. “I’d always be happy to talk to you, Ona.”
“They’re not just ideas. It’s already happening. You ignore me when I behave all week. If this keeps up, I’ll be tempted to mess up just to get your attention.”
“No, come on. I forbid you from doing that! I’m not ignoring you.”
“Yes, you are. Can you tell me how many times we’ve seen each other these past few days?”
“Ona,” she sighs. “Camp Wiegman is my job. I’m sorry if you feel like I’m ignoring you, but it’s not intentional. I have other things to worry about besides you, though I wish I could avoid them.”
“Sorry… It’s just that… Everyone I’ve ever trusted has a tendency to let me down or disappear… You’ve become the person who knows me the best, and… I really don’t want to lose you too.”
Her sympathetic smile makes me turn away. I don’t like being pitied, even though she rarely does it. A long silence follows. When I look back at her, I find her with a little playful look that makes me frown.
“This isn’t funny, I’m opening up to you here.”
“I never said it was funny. I just find it cute, that’s all,” she says with amusement.
“It’s anything but cute to be abandoned.”
“I would never abandon you, silly! Stop thinking that. If you want to spend time with me at school, nothing’s stopping you from coming to my office during your free time.”
“Really?”
“Of course. If I hadn’t suggested it before, it’s because I thought you preferred spending time with your friends.”
I sink into my chair, suddenly feeling deeply ashamed and foolish. I should have considered other alternatives before revealing my innermost thoughts to her. Now, she knows that she means something to me, even though I didn't necessarily want it to be that way. I feel weak and like I'm giving her the chance to hurt me.
"Hey," she pulls me out of my thoughts. "Everything's okay, alright? I'll always be here for you, no matter what. Never forget that. And if you need to come to me, don’t hesitate, okay?"
I sigh and nod. I wish I could believe it, but it's hard. She gives me a small smile that I struggle to return.
"Well... Can we talk about your nights now? I’d like to know when your first episode happened."
"The first one was the night between Wednesday and Thursday," I confess. "I'm sorry that the second one happened with you."
"Don’t apologize for that. I wanted to be informed so I could keep track of your condition. I was really disappointed to hear it from Alexia."
"You should know that I don’t like to bother people, which is why I didn’t say anything. You don’t need to keep track of this."
"Well, actually, I will be. I want to be notified during your episodes, and I will be, even if it’s not through you."
I sigh and cross my arms, showing my displeasure.
"We’ll find a solution, okay?"
"Okay..." I mumble. "Oh, and, um... Thanks again for letting me sleep with you last night."
"Was it okay for you?" she asks. "I offered it on a whim, but I forgot that you usually sleep only with Mapi or your brother."
My eyes fixate on the cup I had been fiddling with. I realize I hadn’t even had the chance to think about it for a single second, and that’s frightening. I've come to trust her blindly without realizing it. I actually care for her more than I thought. I shake my head slightly to regain my composure and clear my throat before responding.
"Uh, yeah... Everything was fine..."
"Good," she smiles gently. "It looks like you’re starting to improve, huh?"
I awkwardly return her smile and nod. She doesn’t seem to understand that this is all thanks to her.
"Well, now that we’ve talked, we’d better get ready. We have a busy schedule ahead."
I nod enthusiastically. This news delights me. I appreciate that she has planned something specifically for me. This afternoon will be a good way to clear my mind.
"I hope you’re going to show me your version of the city. I don’t want the tourist version. The monuments and all that stuff don’t interest me."
"Don’t worry about that, you can trust me. I’ll take a shower while you finish up. See you later."
She tousles my hair as she passes by to put her cup in the dishwasher, then winks at me before disappearing behind the sliding doors. The bathroom door slams shortly after. I finish my breakfast quietly, appreciating all these small gestures. Once done, I try to tidy up what I can and gather the rest so she doesn’t have to do it all. I then return to my assigned room. I open my suitcase, which has remained in place, to choose my clothes. I opt for a casual outfit with jeans and a shirt. I then make my bed and Lucy’s, thinking it’s the least I can do for her welcoming me so well into her home. It’s also the only way to show my gratitude. When I turn around to leave her room, I jump, not expecting to see her behind me. A wave of heat washes over me when my eyes fall on her body covered by nothing but a towel. Holy shit! I blush even more when I lift my eyes to meet hers. I turn my gaze away to try to hide, even though it’s probably too late for that.
"Sorry, I didn’t expect to see you here. I thought you’d be in the living room."
"Sorry. I... I had some time... I took the opportunity to... To make the beds and... And then..."
"No problem," she laughs at my embarrassment. "Can I get dressed now?"
"Y-yeah, of course. Sorry again."
I quickly leave her room, doing my best not to look at her again. I blush once more when I hear that small voice that sounds remarkably like Mapi saying, "See, I told you." It’s complete nonsense. I’m not interested in Lucy. And even if I were, it’s not meant to be. It’s a lost cause. To clear my mind, I head to the bathroom to get ready... Or maybe not. The steam Lucy left in the room reminds me of what I just saw. Once again, I think about the unhealthy ideas Mapi must be having on my behalf. What if she’s right? I shake my head vigorously at that thought. No, she’s not right, and I should probably strangle her for making me think such things. I’m not interested in Lucy, and I’m even less infatuated with her as she suggests. She’s just a friend... A friend I particularly care about. I splash water on my face to shake off this unpleasant theory. I then dry myself with a towel, which I find is already damp. I groan, imagining Lucy using it before me, and grab a new one. I then take my toiletries to brush my teeth, my hair, and finish with makeup. I’ve always kept it simple: foundation with cream, a line of eyeliner, and mascara. I pack everything up, making sure to take my bag with me as I leave.
"BOO!"
"AAAH! What the hell!" I shout at Lucy for scaring me.
I hit her on the shoulder, intensifying her budding laughter. I regret letting Lucy Bronze into my life so much. Her laughter is the most adorable thing I’ve ever heard, and I hate myself for thinking such a thing.
"Oh come on, it was just a joke."
"You’re really mean," I pout, pretending to be upset.
"No, I’m not," she laughs. "Why are you bringing that?" she finally asks, noticing my bag.
"I was going to put it back in my suitcase."
- Why don’t you just leave it here? It’s ridiculous to have to search for it every time. Look, you can leave it here.
Before I can counter her suggestion, she takes my toiletry bag and places it on the counter next to the sink.
- See, I’m organized enough to find a place for you, she teases.
- Thanks.
- Don’t mention it, she says as she pulls out her makeup. I should be the one thanking you for making the beds and tidying up the kitchen.
- Oh, it’s nothing... It was the least I could do.
- Are you ready?
- Yes, yes, I was waiting for you. What are we starting with?
- Don’t be so curious. You’ll find out soon enough.
The frustration and impatience grow within me knowing that I’ll have to wait to find out. On top of that, she announces that we’ll be driving a lot. Long car rides don’t usually bother me, but they might today.
- Okay, I’m ready, she says as she finishes with her mascara. We can leave. Do you think you’ll be warm enough? We’ll be walking a lot and it might be windy.
- Are you telling me I need to change? I ask, looking at myself.
- Don’t you have a big sweater?
- I have one, but not very thick ones. I spend my days in a fully heated classroom, remember?
- Take off your shirt, I’ll be right back.
I grumble but follow her instructions and take off my shirt. She returns shortly with a navy blue sweater, which must be hers. I put it on over my tank top as she advises.
- Is this better?
- Perfect, she smiles. We can go now. Also, take a big scarf.
- Are you taking me to the North Pole? I tease.
- Believe me, you’ll thank me tonight.
I stick my tongue out at her, which seems to amuse her. I put on my shoes, coat, and scarf in my room, then join her in the living room. She takes the time to examine me from head to toe. It seems that my outfit satisfies her, as she finds nothing else to criticize. She then opens the front door, and we use the elevator to reach her car in the basement. Before getting in, we remove our coats and scarves and place them in the back to be more comfortable for the trip. Once done, we leave the building to the sounds of Lana Del Rey. I’m starting to enjoy this CD from hearing it so much. The basement darkness is replaced by the white snow continuing to fall from the sky. The weather here no longer surprises me. I comment on this to Lucy, who has decided to be playful today.
- Is it because you’re humming that it’s snowing? she retorts.
- It’s not likely to be your fault since you never sing.
- Is that a challenge? she raises an eyebrow.
- Maybe. I’m still trying to figure out if you’re a stuck-up girl or not.
- You think I’m stuck-up? she huffs. Well, thanks, that’s nice.
- Well, you’re always so serious at camp. It makes you wonder.
- Stop calling it a camp. It’s a school!
- And you stop dodging the subject. Besides, I’ll call it a camp if I want to, I provoke.
- I’m not dodging, she giggles. Camp Wiegman is my workplace, so it’s normal that I stay serious, right?
- Yeah, maybe too serious for my taste. Especially with the rules, I grimace. Rules are meant to be broken.
- Oh yes, sure. I respect rules so much that you’re in my car right now, she says sarcastically. Maybe I should drop you by the roadside.
- You wouldn’t dare.
- Want to try and see? she challenges with a sly smile.
- Of course, I mock. You wouldn’t be able to anyway.
It’s well known that challenging someone in jest is a risky move, but I’m sure she’d never leave me by the roadside. At least, that’s what I thought until I notice where we are. To put it mildly, nowhere. We’re far from civilization, and we haven’t been driving for long. I start to panic when she surprises me by stopping by the side of the road.
- Get out of the car.
- Seriously? I was just joking!
- Can you trust me for once in your life? she laughs. Come on, get out.
I feel completely disoriented. Still, I unbuckle my seatbelt without thinking and get out of the car as she turns off the engine. Without saying anything, she climbs over the gear shift to take my place. I have a moment of reflection before she gives me the message by tapping the driver’s seat.
- You’re letting me drive? I ask with wide eyes.
- Yeah. You better not make me regret letting you drive my baby.
A beaming smile spreads across my lips. I quickly walk around the car before she changes her mind. I settle into the driver’s seat, not knowing where to put my eyes.
- Adjust the mirrors and the seat if needed, she commands.
I move the seat forward slightly when I realize the pedals are too far. I then adjust the mirrors under Lucy’s watchful eye. I smile as I caress the steering wheel and look at the dashboard.
- Are you comfortable?
- You’re really letting me drive? Aren’t you afraid I’ll mess up?
- I just hope you still know how to drive, she laughs.
- It should be fine...
I buckle up and wait for her permission to start the car. I feel nervous under her scrutiny. It feels like I’m reliving my early driving lessons. It’s been so long since I last drove, and now I’m behind the wheel of an Audi. Lucy’s Audi, no less. When I turn the key, I stall immediately, not noticing that she had left it in gear.
- It’s off to a great start, Lucy chuckles. Are you sure you have a license? Do you even have it with you? she realizes with concern.
- Yeah, I laugh at her reaction. You can check my wallet if you want.
- Hmm, that’s exactly what I’m going to do, she says as she leans toward the back seat.
She rummages through my bag to find my wallet. She seems relieved to find my license and gives me the green light to start. I do as she asks and, fortunately for me, I don’t stall again. I then merge onto the road, making sure there’s no one around. I glance briefly at Lucy, who still has my license in her hands.
- Watch the road, she scolds.
- Oh, come on, I’m managing.
- Obviously, she snickers.
- Where am I going?
- Go straight and at the next intersection, turn right to do a U-turn. There shouldn’t be much traffic here. Do you think you can handle it?
- Normally.
- Hmm, hmm, she smiles. Slow down, will you?
- Are you done yet? I scoff. I feel like I’m hearing my mom when I was learning to drive.
- Hey! I’m far from being your mother, she replies, tapping my thigh.
I mock her while following her instructions. I make the U-turn without any problems, which seems to reassure her. I was lucky there were no other cars. I think she deliberately took this route to give me back the reins. She has me take the previous road to reach a more attractive road. She directs me to the right, introducing me into traffic. I’m proud of my driving, even though I sense that Lucy is not too comfortable beside me. She winces in advance at each possible mistake I might make.
- How did you learn to drive? she asks.
- My dad taught me one summer when I was fifteen. My mom never knew. The day I started driving with her, I had to pretend not to know, I giggle.
- Were you already on bad terms with her back then?
- Yeah. It was a real disaster. At my slightest mistakes, she’d yell at me, which made me mad. We never finished a trip without it ending in a fight.
- I see. Take this way.
Excitement hits me when I see we’re driving along a beach. It’s far from as beautiful as Barcelona’s, but at least there is one. Lucy reminds me to focus on the road. It’s funny how she’s so concerned about her car.
- Do you want to make a stop?
- Can we?
- I had something else planned, but it’s just nearby, so we can park and walk a bit.
- Cool! I’d like that.
I stop at the first parking lot we find and choose a spot where no other cars are around to make sure I don’t hit a mirror. I engage the handbrake and turn off the car with a big smile.
- Happy to finally drive an Audi?
- Thanks for letting me drive at all. I missed it.
I unbuckle and throw myself into her arms, catching her by surprise. She accepts my hug after getting over her initial shock. She then retrieves her keys from the dashboard before we get out. I understand why she asked me to dress warmly the moment I feel the cold air hitting me harshly. It’s even colder than in downtown. I quickly put on my coat and scarf. Lucy puts our bags in the trunk so we don’t have to carry them and lock.
- It's freezing here, I said, pulling up the zipper of my jacket all the way.
- I warned you, she laughed. Follow me. I want to show you something now that we're here.
- Do you come here often?
- Occasionally, when I want to clear my head.
- What do you want to show me?
- Don’t be impatient, princess.
I smile at the nickname she hasn't used in a while. Everyone thinks Leah is the one who started it, but Lucy called me that from my first day. We walk a bit more until she stops in front of a rock formation that is more imposing than the others. I grimace, realizing her intentions.
- Don’t tell me we’re going to climb up there?
- Yes.
Without waiting for my response, she starts climbing. I sigh and try to follow her at a certain height.
- Remember that I’m afraid of heights, right?
- Don’t be a wuss. I promise it’s worth it. Come on, give me your hand.
Since she doesn’t seem to change her mind, I take her hand and she pulls me up to her level before continuing higher. I eventually reach the top without falling. She finds a flat spot where we can sit. It wasn’t so complicated after all. I look out at the horizon thoughtfully. She was right; it was worth it. The view from up here is magnificent. The breeze whistles in my ears, but the place is so soothing that I don’t mind. To think I almost missed this spot. We can see everything from here, but no one can see us thanks to the rocks in front of us that hide us.
- This is where I come most of the time when I need to be alone.
I tear my eyes away from the sea to look at her. She gazes out admiringly. I appreciate that she’s sharing something personal with me. She promised she would this weekend, and it seems she still keeps her promises.
- Tell me about yourself. I want to get to know you better... You know, the real Lucy. Not the camp instructor.
- What do you want to know?
- I don’t know. Tell me about your family, your friends, what you like... Everything.
- Everything? she chuckles. Am I tormenting you that much?
- Totally.
A smile forms on her lips, but she still doesn’t look at me. I turn my attention back to the waves crashing on the rocks below us. I can already imagine this scene in my sketchbook. She takes a deep breath that prompts me to meet her gaze.
- Alright. One thing you can know now. Where do you want to start?
- I already know a few of your friends... So why not talk about your family? If you don’t mind, of course.
- Alright, but only if you tell me about yours in return.
I grimace but agree anyway. It’s the only way to learn things after all.
- Very well, she says, taking a deep breath. To be honest, I’ve never known my real parents.
I don’t hide my surprise. I expected many things, but certainly not this revelation.
- I was adopted at birth, she continues. My parents were clear with me as soon as I was old enough to understand. I never worried about who my real parents were. To me, I already knew them and didn’t need anyone else.
- Wow... I wasn’t expecting that, I admit.
- I know, she smiles. It didn’t stop me from living a normal life, quite the opposite.
- Are you close to them?
- Quite, yes.
- It didn’t stop you from leaving them to come here.
- It was only for studies; otherwise, I would have never left, she tells me with a small smile. I don’t really have much more to add, she chuckles, shrugging. My life can’t be as exciting as you might imagine.
- Don’t you have any siblings?
No, I’m an only child. My mother couldn’t have children, which is why they adopted me. However, I consider Jenni like a sister. We’ve known each other since childhood and grew up together.
- I see... So, you’ve never had any conflicts with your parents or anything like that?
- Not really, she giggles. They’ve always let me live my life. Well, let’s move on to you. What are you still hiding from me? she asks curiously.
- Well, I have divorced parents, a blended family... I’m now waiting for my mother to announce that she’s getting remarried.
- Do you think that will happen?
- I suppose. It would be logical, I shrug.
- And... And your father? she asks delicately.
I could have sworn she’d bring him up. It’s one of the few things she doesn’t know about my family yet. I look at her for a moment, noticing no insistence in her expression. If I wanted to, she’d let me dodge it, but that’s not the most courageous decision. I look ahead as I begin to answer her.
- There’s not much to say, I murmur.
- Sorry. You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.
- If there’s not much to say, it’s because he’s no longer here.
I spoke before my mind could torment me too much. I didn’t want to backtrack now that I was decided to tell her.
- He’s dead, Luce. He’s just dead.
A heavy silence surrounds us at this news. Saying it out loud still hurts just as much. Tears burn my eyes, but I quickly wipe them away with the back of my hand.
- H-He died on a mission when I was eighteen. He was a soldier. H-His death caused my breakdown after high school...
If I look at her now, I won’t be able to hold back the tears that threaten to fall for good. Without saying anything, she puts her arm around my shoulders to pull me closer to her. I don’t think twice about snuggling against her desperately.
- Don’t hold back. You have the right to be devastated...
These simple words release my tears. She squeezes my shoulder and kisses the top of my head.
- It must be hard, but know that you will never be alone again. I’m here now, and I don’t intend to leave you. Okay?
I nod, unable to respond any other way. My throat is too tight, and I might break into uncontrolled sobs.
- D-Do you promise? I ask with a broken voice.
- I promise.
She holds me a little tighter, giving me all the comfort I need. The words are finally out. Someone other than my family or Mapi now knows. I’ve wanted to manage to do this for a long time, and I’ve finally succeeded.
- I’m glad I met you...
- Me too, Ona.
She gives me the time I need to recover. Long minutes pass while I start to feel better and slowly straighten up.
- I think we have a plan waiting for us, don’t we? I ask with my slightly hoarse voice.
- That’s right, and it’s quite packed. Do you feel up to continuing?
- Yeah, I want to enjoy what you’ve planned for us.
- Good, she smiles. So let me suggest we start with the fairground over there, she says, pointing to the place I saw earlier.
- That sounds perfect.
And I mean it. I wanted to go there the moment I saw it, and now she’s offering it to me on a silver platter. She helps me up and down the rocks. She mocks me when I close my eyes on the way down, but it was the only way to manage it. She suggests we head back to the car to get to our next destination faster. I didn’t say no, feeling my feet freezing. It was definitely the best choice.
Saturday, January 9; 3:30 PM - Downtown Manchester.
Our late morning at the fairground was perfect. Lucy is amazing. She managed to make me forget our conversation from this morning. It’s the first time I’ve seen her as anything other than my boss. We’ve just left the restaurant we went to after having fun. She’s taken the wheel for the drive back to downtown. I was happy she let me drive her Audi at least once. It’s the only one that has trusted me so much, and I enjoyed it immensely. The little restaurant she took me to was cool. She once again paid for everything, despite my protests. I ended up abandoning the argument.
- Are you ready to walk?
- Yeah, it doesn’t bother me.
She smiles at me before we stroll through the streets. I don’t know where we’re going, but I trust her. Well, that was until she stopped in front of a dilapidated building. I remain skeptical as she pushes open the door.
- What are you doing...?
- Are you being a wuss?
She challenges me with a mischievous smile, raising her eyebrows. I hate it when she does that. She knows I can’t say no to her. She gives me a nod to go into the creepy building, and I do. She goes ahead to climb the stairs without seeming bothered by the environment.
- Are you okay? she asks, glancing at me.
- Uh-huh...
She chuckles before turning around and climbing at a faster pace. She doesn’t seem to notice that I’m already struggling to keep up.
- What are we doing in this creepy stairwell?
- Patience, you’re too curious. Remind me to ban horror movies for you if you can’t handle places like this.
- I’m not scared! I mutter.
- Have you seen your face? she giggles. You look like you’re going to have a heart attack at the slightest noise. The building is abandoned; there’s no one here.
- You can’t be sure!
- There’s no one here, I’m telling you, she laughs.
I’m relieved when we finally reach the top. She forces open a heavy metal door that eventually creaks open. I cautiously step in behind her. My eyes close as the daylight dazzles me. She props the door open with a slab she found on the ground. I realize we’re on the roof of the building. I slowly move beside her, taking in the surrounding buildings.
- Wow...
I look at Lucy, who’s smiling at me. I momentarily pause on her outstretched hand.
- I know you’re afraid of heights, but you need to see this.
I take her hand without thinking. She carefully pulls me to the edge, which is protected by a safety railing. I hold onto the railing as she positions herself behind me to let me take in the new view.
- Look down...
I take a deep breath before looking. I’m momentarily overwhelmed by vertigo, but Lucy places her hands on my shoulders to ground me. I smile, appreciating what I see. It’s breathtaking. She’s showing me Manchester from above, and it’s a real spectacle. The streets are crowded with as many pedestrians as cars. Everyone continues their lives, unaware that we’re watching them. Walking across the city is so much more effective.
- Visiting in your style, huh?
- Absolutely, she smiles. Not so bad, this haunted building, huh?
- Shut up, I chuckle. Admit it’s scary!
- It’s true I was hesitant the first time I came here, she laughs. But it’s worth it, right?
- Yes! You can’t imagine the number of drawing ideas that have come to mind since this morning with everything you’ve shown me.
- Hey! Copyright then. These are my private spots.
- Is this the first time you’ve brought someone here? I ask curiously.
- Yes and no. Let’s say someone showed me these places, and... I’m showing them to you now.
She leans over the railing beside me to see the city. She looks at me for a moment, a smile forming on her lips.
- These are my personal places that I’m sharing with you. Make sure not to divulge them.
- I won’t say a word, as long as you tell me about the person who showed you these places.
She raises an eyebrow but smiles at the seriousness of my request. It’s a chance to learn more about her.
- It was my first girlfriend... My first love, I’d say. Her name was Kiera.
- What happened...? I ask softly.
Her eyes remain fixed on the city below us. She doesn’t say anything for now. Maybe my question was a mistake. I was about to speak, but she beats me to it.
- She was the first person we met here with Jenni. Let’s say she was a bit like you... She had drug problems she was trying to overcome. I helped her through a detox.
- Oh... I understand better now why you reacted so well with me...
- Yeah, it’s thanks to her, she laughs nervously. I had helped her get out of that. Or so I thought. Everything went wrong in a day. One of her friends called me in a panic. He said she wasn’t responding and he didn’t understand what was happening. My first reaction was to grab my keys and go to her. When I arrived, I just found my girlfriend’s body... She had overdosed.
A strange feeling washes over me. She told the story without any apparent emotion. There it is, her dark memory that she had kept hidden. I try to meet her green eyes, but to no avail. Her reprimands and worries about me become so much clearer. She doesn’t want me to become like her. She’s afraid of losing me like she lost her. It’s my turn to put my arm around her shoulders. She surprises me by resting her head on my shoulder.
- Please don’t fall back into that.
- I won’t. And if I’m feeling down, I’ll talk to you about it.
She ruffles my hair before kissing my cheek. It’s the first time she’s shown such an affectionate gesture towards me.
- Alright, we’ve had enough gloom for today. Do you have any particular desires for this afternoon?
- I thought you already had a full schedule?
- I do, but I prefer to ask you first.
- We’ll stick to your plan, just because I love what you organize.
- Alright, she says, standing up. We can go to Old Trafford if you want. Otherwise, I also saw there’s a street art exhibit nearby if you’re interested.
My eyes light up at the mention of her second suggestion. Her smile is amused.
- The exhibit, I suppose?
- Obviously!
- Good. However, it doesn’t start for another hour, she tells me, checking her watch. But we can take a walk in the park first if you like.
- Good idea, so we can do both.
I’ve always loved nature anyway, and it seems she does too. We head back to the car to reach the park, as it’s too far to walk from here according to Lucy. In any case, she’s truly gone above and beyond to make me happy until the end.

Summary: Miguel O'Hara x Fem! Reader; Miguel was a mystery you'd hardly began to solve. Too bad you were already in love with him.

Tumblr media
I
Two weeks.
It had been two weeks since you last saw or heard from Miguel. Now, you tried not to feel abandoned — per se, but the emotion nagged to the corners of your soul. Miguel was secretive and cagey. You’d just sort of embraced that part of him. It wasn’t like the two of you were in a relationship or anything like that: a fact you have to remind yourself of constantly. You just slept together; sometimes.
He was a mutant like most people in the city; like that Spider-Man kid. But he never got caught on YouTube or anywhere. In fact, if it wasn’t for the marks he left on your skin — you were quite sure you would have thought he wasn’t real.
“I’m tired of you moping around in your apartment.” Your best friend, Tia, had said when she called. “You’re going on the date whether you want to or not.”
Tia’s solution to everything seemed to be getting dicked down. To you, this date wouldn’t even begin to scratch the itch Miguel left behind. Yet, here you were, putting on lipstick and wearing your good lingerie set beneath a new cocktail dress.
“And where are you going?” Snarled a familiar voice, causing you to snap your lipstick in half.
Miguel stood by your window. Black and red suit on but maskless. His face looked worse for wear. Your heart clenched at the thought that he might be hurt.
You wiped your hands and grabbed your first aid kit, exiting the bathroom and jogging to him. “What the hell happened to you?”
He passed his tongue over his teeth; watching you scrambling over him in a little black dress. “Fight. Where are you going?”
“A date.” You didn’t have to answer to him.
“Oh.”
“Yes.”
You padded rubbing alcohol to a nasty scar on his chest. He didn’t even flinch as you cleaned it. “With who?”
“Not sure. Tia arranged it.”
“Plan on fucking him?”
“What the fuck, Miguel?”
“I’m just asking. That dress barely covers your fucking ass, your tits are all the way up to your neck —”
Angry, you poked the bruise until he flinched. “Don’t you fucking start! You disappear for what, two weeks? And just barge in? I don’t even know your last name, Miguel. So yes, I can go out and fuck whoever I want.” You threw the supplies at him and grabbed your bag. “You can clean up yourself you fucking asshole.”
II.
The date went horribly.
You couldn’t blame the guy — he was nice, Peter Something was his name, but he was a little young to you and you weren’t in the mood for a bad decision tonight.
So, you came home alone and cold. Miguel had long since gone. Your supplies had been returned and surprisingly, there was a note at your bedside with some sort of tricked-out cellphone.
My name is Miguel O’Hara. You can contact me on this.
It took you two days to send a message. A bright, sunny June morning. And it wasn’t anything poetic or well-thought-out. A simple hey.
You’d shoved the phone aside and gone on your laptop to teach a few classes. At lunch, when you opened it — you were surprised to see he had responded.
I’m sorry. It wasn’t my place.
Huh.
Damn right.
The reply came instantly; Did you have fun?
Should you lie? No. That was petty. Biting your lip, you twirled your fork in your ramen. What the hell.
Yes, I did.
This reply came slower. Okay.
Another text came in before you could respond. I don’t want you going on dates with other guys.
Your reply was automatic. Did he think you were some well-trained maltose?
Then do something about it.
I plan to, cariño  .
It seemed you’d underestimated what those texts had started. Miguel had honestly started to court you. He called you often, even video-calling and you spoke at great lengths about each. Then, the gifts came.
The first was a bouquet of flowers. Carnations, roses and tulips. You had set them on your nightstand. Looking at them every night until they turned brown.
Then, the Nat King Cole record. It was mint and sounded crisp when you played it. A perfect sound and echo.
Miguel was determined.
At least now you knew he was serious. Excitement coursed through you. You liked getting to know him. You liked the vulnerability he shared with you. You liked that you knew his favourite meal, his hatred for his father, his love for his mother – you knew he lost someone he cared deeply about, you knew his aches as well as you knew the curves of his back. The scars healed and were left behind. You cared for this man. You loved this man. That was scary.
The two of you stayed over at each other’s homes on and off. Miguel’s home was clinical and lacked warmth. He had offhandedly said he lived at work and not really here, in this little apartment he showed you.
“Someday, I’ll take you to where I actually sleep.” he’d promised one night, rubbing your feet as you queued up an old movie.
You’d said nothing, not wanting to show him how eager you were for any scrap of information he had to give. You wondered if it was sane; to want someone the way you wanted Miguel. This craving hunger seemed to get the better of you. Was it foolish? To let him in when there was so much pain, so much secretiveness about him.
Could you want something so much it killed you?
III.
You’d taken a summer job when classes had closed down. Waitressing in the city, like you had when you were a grad student. The problem, however, came with getting back home during the night shift. The buses ran till midnight and sometimes, you had to walk home. It was lonely, sure, and you kind of regretted taking the shift. You preferred it being you – older, fewer ties than the other girls with families and who were now getting their degrees. Plus, the late-nighters seemed to tip better.
A cold glock pressed itself to your side – pausing you from moving. Your fingers trembled. “Give me the purse or die.”
Twitchy fingers dug into your fanny purse for your cash, eager to get the fuck away from the psychopath. Then, a flash of colour popped before your eye and the feeling of the glock disappeared. The gun hit the floor and you turned slowly to see the attacker on the ground clutching his throat. Over him stood a familiar black and red, hulking form. Talons dripped crimson and in the shadow of the street light – Miguel appeared fearsome.
Your lips quivered. Words couldn’t wrench themself from your throat. But Miguel turned to you, leaving the man bleeding on the ground.
“I’m taking you home, now.” His voice was a growl. Modulated and unlike the voice you had come to care for. His arms wrapped around you and soon, you were swinging through the city until you met your apartment.
Miguel stripped you and bathed you, tied your hair in a satin scarf and laid you on your bed. You watched him, he seemed laser-focused on you as he tried to make sure you were safe and comfortable. He made that orange tea you liked so much, lit a pine candle and wrapped you in your favorite blanket.
It was when he was half-way out your window that you found your voice. “Stay. Please, Miguel.”
Miguel turned. Removing his mask and suit until he was just in his footlong briefs. “Of course, mi cariño.”
In the morning, Miguel took you to HQ. And boy was that a mindfuck.
IV.
“Empanadas?”
“Beef or chicken?”
Miguel opened the box, took a seat next to you on the park bench, and took a sniff. “Beef.”
“Oh. Yum.” you made grabby hands.
Your boyfriend relinquished them to you, smiling as you dug into one. “So good. I think we should keep coming to this universe just for the food.”
He hummed. “Highly unlikely.”
You licked your fingers and rolled your eyes. Your eyes caught an alley in dark corner and red flushed across your neck. It had been a while since you and Miguel fucked. He wanted to take things at your pace. Sure, he ate you out from time to time and you certainly couldn’t go long without deep-throating his cock but you hadn’t had him deep inside you for a while.
Wiping your hands on your jacket, you placed a hand on his thigh and rubbed a circle. “Mig?”
“Yeah, baby?”
You dropped your voice low and pressed your breasts against his large arm. “Wanna do a quickie in a dark alley?”
Miguel stopped what he was doing and flickered his eyes over you and then back to the alley. “Baby, don’t do this to me.”
“C’mon,” your hand went higher to his groin. “Fuck me like a whore up against a dirty alley wall.”
“Fuck.” Miguel rolled up his sleeve to show his gizmo and in a few taps, you were home.
V.
Your hands were pinned on top of your head by webbing. You showed your teeth and snarled. Though, everything about this was consensual. You liked making things difficult for Miguel. He was about to turn your pussy inside out and you were going to weep on his cock, anyway.
So, yes – you liked making things a little difficult for him. It was your thing. You fought and acted like a bitch and he made you pay deliciously for it.
A hand slapped across your heavy breasts, eliciting a whimper and drawing you from your thoughts. Red eyes flashed down at you, fangs hanging between pouty lips. “I must be doing something wrong if you’re so distracted?”
“Yes.” You answered without hesitation. “You aren’t fucking me.”
Miguel didn’t respond. His hand pinched a hard nipple, sharp talons tracing your skin and making your pussy grow wetter at his teasing. Cupping your pussy, he parted your folds and caressed it — sticky love coating his finger as his thumb rubbed your swollen clit. You buckled beneath his touch.
“Look how that mouth disappears when I’m touching my pussy, cariño  .” Miguel kissed your neck; determined to make you come just by playing with your clit. Which wasn’t hard to do. Not when he was pressed against you like this. Kissing your throat and nipping at the swell of your breasts; sucking your nipples as if to draw nectar from them.
You became a wiggling — snivelling thing under him. Fuck. Fuck. Your pussy quivered with the impending fall of your climax.
Arching you back, your mouth hung open as your peak approached. Just as the crescendo reached its high Miguel pulled away from you. Tears burned your eyes as they snapped open to look at him.
“What the fuck?” Your voice came out needy, weak and pleading.
Miguel simply grinned at you, sucking on his fingers. “Are you complaining? Stop being such a whiny little puta.”
Raising your hips, you demanded attention to your pussy. “If you’re going to tease me I might as well take out my vibrator and get the job done.”
“Neta?” The humour in his voice was dry and you felt as though your horny mind had just made a fatal mistake. “You’re going to pay for that.”
Miguel bowed his head and started eating your pussy slowly. Tongue lapping like a cat to cream, he licked from your clit to the end of your slit. Sucking and tonguing your weeping pussy at his own slow pace. Building you up all over again.
He pressed his pretty lips to it, kissing your pussy like it was a precious thing. Then he pressed it to your aching clit. Sucking it slowly, making loud sloppy wet sounds as your hips worked desperately against his face. Miguel made pussy eating a gourmet art.
His index and middle finger pressed into you, sinking into the depth of your carven. You shivered, moaning loudly at the combination.
“Miguel! Oh, please, baby. Miguel! Miguel!”
Moments from it. You felt your release coming before he pulled away again. This time tears fully flowed. “Please, please, please.”
Licking his lips, Miguel showed his fangs, brown eyes dropping to your dripping pussy. He set his hands on your thighs, then rubbed his thumb over your clit before slapping your pussy softly. “Oh. I wouldn’t want to put your vibrator out of business, cariño  .”
You groaned. God, if only you’d kept your fucking mouth shut.
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry, baby. Just let me have it. Make me come, please baby. I’m sorry. Baby, please.” You were outright begging now. Your voice a pathetic, weak mewl. How the mighty had fallen already.
But that pleased Miguel. He liked you pleading. Liked it when you wanted him so badly it made you insane. Writhing on his bed, tied up and weak for him and only him.
Stretching his body over you, he let his hard cock rub against your wet core as he grabbed the aforementioned vibrator from your bedside. Flicking it on, the purple device vibrated. Then he clicked it up to the highest speed.
You hit your lip; excited to see where this would go.
Miguel went back to his meal. Kissing and sucking your pussy before focusing on your clit again.
The vibrator slowly inserted into your pussy as he sucked your clit. You arched your back, whimpering and moaning as the vibrator went in and out of you. Miguel’s expert kissing and use of the toy had you collapsing in moments, spraying his face with your orgasm.
You felt raw and overstimulated but Miguel kept the toy there even as he raised his head to kiss your breasts. Covering them in bite marks.
You are already mute at his work. He worked the vibrator deep into you so that it would stay there in you as he sat on your face — working the tip of his cock into your open mouth.
“Relax your throat, slut.” He growled, working his cock in and out of your mouth. It was an awkward angle sucking his cock as you lay down. The salty taste of his velvet member was a favorite of yours still. You often told him it was your favourite thing to eat.
The vibrator stayed in you even as you wiggled your hips to try and get it to slip out. The sensitivity of your pussy with its motions and the delicious feel of Miguel fucking your mouth had you trembling.
Looking up at Miguel felt like a religious experience. A god, looking down at you as his balls slapped your chin.
“Look how pretty you look — silent and full of my cock. Fuck. Yeah, suck it like that. Fill up on my cock.”
Miguel held your head, controlling the pace but you made your cheeks shallow and kept your tongue wrapping around him. His member jammed the back of your throat and slid down it, you gagged — naturally but Miguel kept it there for a few seconds before pulling out. He rubbed his head, coated in spit and pre-cum all over your lips.
“Pretty puta. You like sucking my cock? You like being my fucking whore?”
He didn’t give you a chance to respond before slipping the tip in. He slid in and out before pulling out and cumming on your face. A spurt landed on your lips and forehead — barely missing your eye. Miguel slipped it back into your mouth and you sucked the head, swallowing the milk that came from it.
You’d lied before. His cum was your favorite meal. His cock was a close second.
Pulling out from your mouth, Miguel reached forward and sliced the webbing open with his talon. Your hands fell to your sides and automatically went to your face. He removed the vibrator from your messy cunt, planting kisses on the poor, trembling pussy.
Miguel wasted no time and plucking a wet-wipe up from his nightstand and wiping your face clean.
“There’s my pretty girl.” He said with softness. You smiled, kissing his cheek and lips. “How’re you? I wasn’t too rough?”
“There’s my beautiful man.” Your hands trailed his body, all the way to his still hard member. Miguel let you lead, guiding his cock into your trembling pussy. You bit your lip and moaned as his thickness sunk into you. “You weren’t rough enough, baby.”
His head dropped, lips to your ear as he hummed against the familiar feel of your walls. You hissed as he pushed himself to the hilt, kissing your skin. You were sure by the end of the night you’d resemble a leopard. “Let me endeavor to correct that then, cariño  .”
Miguel’s hand settled onto your throat as he began to stroke you. His girth stretched you slowly, thickness digging deeper into he attempted to dissolve fully into your warmth. He was being kind to your sensitivity but that kindness ended quickly.
His fingers tightened around your neck, conjuring a gasp. He slipped his tongue into your mouth, kissing you sloppily as his hips picked up a harsh pace. His cock spreading you and burning your pussy with its fever.
“You like stretching out this pretty little pussy? Like me making this a home for my cock, whore?”
His teeth nipped your lips, tongue passing across your jaw before he bite your neck.
“Yes, baby. I like you fucking your little whore’s pussy. Stretch me out.” You whispered, fingernails digging into his impossibly large back. You doubted you broke skin but mania overtook you when Miguel’s cock was inside you.
His hips stuttered, ever so slightly, and you couldn’t help but squeeze your pussy around his cock, rocking on the member.
Miguel placed a hand on your crouch, pushing you down. “Not so soon, cariño  .”
Staying perfectly still for a moment, he released your throat and sat on his hunches — forcing you to sit up. Miguel placed a hand at your back and another beneath your buttocks, keeping you up.
The movement, and friction of your clit against his pubes, caused for a shutter of an orgasm to race through you. A little thing like that, made you coat his cock.
Full of machismo, Miguel puffed his chest out and began fucking into you. Hard. “Miguel! Fuck, oh god. Oh god!”
“That’s right, baby. I want everyone to hear me fucking you.”
“Oh god, oh god!”
“That’s not my name baby. Fucking say my name!”
And you did, over and over. Until his name became the only word that would fall from your lips. His thick cock dragged against the walls of your sensitive pussy rough and fast, fucking Miguel was holy. Fucking him was close to heaven.
“Love fucking this pussy, cariño  . My tight little pussy. Love spreading it open with my fat cock. Oh, take it baby. Roll those pretty eyes back on this cock. My cock dumb little whore.”
Still sensitive, you came wet and messy on top of him. Miguel followed after, chasing his orgasm with hard, burning thrusts until he came inside you. Laying you on your back, he made a few more jerky thrusts; just to get it all inside you and collapsed on top of you.
He rested on you for a moment, before pulling out, cock bouncing onto his thick thigh. Miguel’s chest heaved, his dark eyes looking over your face. His hand found its way between your legs, rubbing his leaking cum all over your sore pussy — pressing some of it back into it.
You couldn’t help it. You kissed his lips and cheeks. God, you loved this man.

hi! can you write something about jealous jaehyun?
in which jaehyun wants a special restaurant with you, too. | tw jealous jaehyun, crying (this turned way sadder than i intended oops) | wc 583
“so, you and leehan are, like, pretty close now, huh?”
you set your phone down on the table next to your bed from your call with leehan, lunch plans made to eat at your co-favorite restaurant tomorow. attention turning to your boyfriend, you see him look down at the bed sheets, avoiding your eyes.
“sure, i guess. why?”
“no reason.” he says quietly.
you eye him carefully, the bed sheets twisting underneath you as you move closer to him.
he glances up at you before tucking his fingers into your palm, fidgeting slightly.
you can tell he wants to say something and that it's hard for him, so you stay silent while you wait.
“we don’t have a special restaurant.” he mumbles.
“what do you mean?”
“we don’t have a special restaurant, you and me. but you and leehan do.”
“oh.”
“and you have friendship bracelets, and you eat lunch together every week, and you have all these inside jokes, and, i know you might want me to be around more often, but,” his voice breaks, “i’m trying, you know? and i’m not jealous, i just-” he trails off, “i’m sorry.”
“shhh, don’t be sorry.” you wrap your arms around his shoulders, tucking him into him into what you hope is a comforting hug. “you know leehan and i are just friends, right?”
“i know! i’m not jealous.” he insists.
“i know, i know you’re not jealous. i was just reminding you.” you can always tell when he’s jealous by how much he denies it. “and we can do all those things, too. we can have a special restaurant, if you want, and make bracelets, and eat-”
“i know, but,” he interrupts, “s’not the same.”
“what do you mean?”
“i mean, that you and leehan- all this stuff just happened naturally. and maybe- maybe if i didn’t have to be at work so much, then we could have more stuff like that. i’m sorry.”
you can’t do anything except hug him tighter. “shh, i know you have to be at work. of course i wish i could see you more, but that’s because i love you and i don’t blame you at all. and we do have special things, you and me, even though you have to be at work, you know? we have our song, and our matching necklaces, and i have all your hoodies,” (he laughs weakly at that, and you’re reminded of how it’s one of your favorite sounds)  “and i love you, so much, you know?”
“i know,” he whispers. “yah, i wish you wouldn’t worry so much. no one could ever compare to you, jae.”
he surges, pushing you onto the bed as he hugs you fiercely.
your heart melts, and you reach forward to cup his cheek, only to see a tear tracing down his face, and your heart breaks instead.
you swipe it away with your thumb.
“don’t cry, jae, i love you,”
he sniffles, looking up at you. “i love you too.”
“yeah?” you pull him into a hug again.
“yeah. and maybe i was jealous.”
“i know. it’s ok to be jealous, sometimes.”
he sniffs again, tears blotting into your shirt.
“I know, i just- i don’t want you to think that i’m jealous too much, because what if you get bored and leave? and i don’t- i can’t live without you, i can’t-”
he sobs, hiding in your neck.
“shhh, oh jae, i love you too much to ever leave you. i can’t live without you either.”
and you stay like that, holding him against you lovingly until you fall asleep.

i did it. i fucking did it. abstragedy be upon you all. finally.
***********
Zooble watched from a distance as the ringmaster shoved everyone into the portal that had just appeared. They had decided to opt out of today’s adventure, so it was just them in the circus for today. Which they didn’t mind at all, in fact, they were happy to have alone time. It gave them a chance to think clearly without any interruption from any crazy people.
“Zooble, my dear!” Caine shouted as he teleported directly in front of them out of nowhere. Ugh. Speaking of crazy people…
“Don’t call me that.” they grumbled. “I’m not your dear.”
“Right, my apologies!” the dentures replied. “But since everyone else is over at the Candy Canyon Kingdom, I was thinking that maybe you, me, and Bubble could-”
“Not a chance in hell.”
“...Ooookay. That’s a no, then. So, um…in that case, I guess you can just do whatever you want.” And with that, he was gone as quickly as he had appeared.
Zooble rolled their eyes as they began to wander aimlessly. Why was it that they could never seem to catch a break? Oh well, at least now they had a bit of time to themselves. Hopefully Caine wouldn’t bother them again. It wasn’t long before their thoughts began to wander as well.
They recalled the events of the previous day, where they were kidnapped by the Gloinks and fed to their queen. They remembered the look of fear and worry on Gangle's face when they were carried off. And they remembered how, when Kinger had failed to grab them with his floating hands, they thought “If only Gangle was the one saving me”. She would've known what she was doing, plus they would've gotten to be held gently by her...
…Huh. Weird.
Brushing away those thoughts, they started to look around the giant main room. There wasn't really anything new to see, but there were things to notice. Like the dark red color of the curtains that hung over the stage, and how it reminded them of Gangle's red ribbon body. There was something so cute about the way it would wrap around you completely when she hugged you, and-
Zooble suddenly realized what they were doing, and patted their own face, bringing themselves back to reality. They just couldn't seem to focus today…
They tried to lean on one of the gigantic blocks in the room like it was a wall, but they unexpectedly slipped and hit the floor with a hard thud. Luckily there wasn't anyone around to see their embarrassing little tumble, but as they lay there shocked, they thought about all the times they saw Gangle trip and fall. Her body was so flimsy, it wasn't a surprise that it happened often. But no matter what, she always managed to get up again, which was something to be admired. And sometimes when they helped her up, she’d thank them and they’d feel all warm and fuzzy-
Zooble sat up in a panic and tapped the heel of their hand against their forehead, as if trying to shake the thoughts out of their brain. Why were they thinking like this? What was happening?
They stood up frantically and began to walk in the direction of the hallway where everyone’s rooms were. They were supposed to go to their room, but their mind was so plagued with thoughts of Gangle, they accidentally walked to her room instead, which only made them feel worse. They slammed their forearms against the door and groaned in frustration. The door just swung open and they fell again. Zooble was feeling awful by this point, the thoughts were nice and all, but they had no idea why they were thinking these things and it was scaring the $&*! out of them. They eventually sat up and took in the sight of Gangle’s room.
Most of the decor and furniture was in the same range of colors as Gangle herself; dark red and white shades, though things like the bedframe, wardrobe and vanity were all made of dark brown wood. Every surface was covered in craft supplies, plushies, manga, and other such things. Despite the clutter, the room was pleasant and cozy.
As if by instinct, Zooble stepped into the room and started to look around. They weren’t trying to snoop or anything, it was just that being in the room made them feel closer to the ribbon girl…if that made any sense. They eventually settled themselves into a corner, next to a box of art stuff. It was peaceful, sitting there in Gangle’s room. They sighed with relief, not feeling quite so lonely anymore. The mix-and-match toy felt like they might even fall asleep like this…
“ZOOBLE!!”
Zooble lept in place, startled by the sudden yell. Of course Caine had to ruin this for them.
“Caine, what the #&*%!?!?”
“Apologies, my mismatched pal! I simply wanted to check on you! And you had me worried for a while, I couldn’t find you anywhere!” He looked around the room with a puzzled expression. “...Why are you in Gangle’s room??”
Zooble felt their breath snag in their throat. He probably thought they were a creep or something. And they couldn’t blame him.
“...I don’t have a good answer to that question.”
Caine frowned at them. Or at least, they thought it was a frown. “What’s the matter? Are you feeling a little bit of FOMO about today’s adventure?” he inquired. Zooble would’ve laughed at his choice of words if they weren’t so lost in thought still.
“I’m fine, just lonely is all.”
“Lonely? Well, we simply can’t have that! Perhaps I could spawn in an NPC for you to talk to? Or you could hang out with me and Bubble! My offer still stands!”
Zooble drew in a sharp inhale, unsure of how to explain everything to the ringmaster.
“It's a bit more complicated than that. The truth is, I…miss someone.”
“Miss someone?” Caine was confused. His gaze wandered the room briefly, and when he looked at the portrait on the open door, it all suddenly made sense. A soft, sympathetic look faded onto his face, and he lowered himself to the ground, seating himself next to Zooble.
“…You miss Gangle?”
Zooble was surprised he got it so quickly, but nodded. They looked down at the box they were seated next to, their eyes falling on a roll of red satin ribbon. They picked it up and started to slowly wrap it around their hand. It felt almost exactly like they imagined it would feel to hold hands with Gangle…they felt their face grow warmer at the thought. They suddenly became aware of Caine mumbling something, but they couldn’t quite hear him. “What?”
“I’m sure she misses you too.”
Zooble blushed at the kind statement. “Oh…thanks.” They were silent for a long moment, then yawned and leaned on the box a little more. In their drowsy state, they didn’t even notice when Caine tiptoed out of the room and shut the door behind him. It only took a moment for them to fall into a deep sleep.
Gangle tumbled out of the portal back into the main room of the circus, clutching the shattered pieces of her comedy mask as tightly as she could. As she and everyone else stood up and grumbled, Caine appeared in front of them and did his usual greeting, with all the same sickly sweet enthusiasm.
“Welcome back, superstars! I trust you all had a fun time at the Candy Canyon Kingdom?”
The sound of groaning and complaining arose from the group, which the ringmaster ignored as usual. But after he presented the performers with their reward, his jaw curled into a grin as he drifted towards Gangle, and simply said:
“Someone’s waiting for you.”
Gangle had no idea what he meant by that. She allowed him to lead her to her room, where he swung the door open to reveal…Zooble? To her surprise, the mix-and-match character was sitting in the corner of her room, fast asleep, with a bunch of satin ribbon wrapped around their hand. Her initial look of shock quickly turned into a soft smile as she stepped closer and sat down next to them.
“Have they been waiting here the whole time?” she asked, her eyes still fixed on Zooble’s sleeping face. Caine grinned cheerfully as he answered her question. “Indeed they have! I must say, you have a good friend on your hands!”
“Yeah. A good friend.” she mumbled to herself. She leaned in and planted a kiss on the sharp corner of Zooble's triangular head, a faint pink blush appearing on her porcelain cheeks. Caine's jaw curled into another wide grin as he shut the door. It was just the two of them now. A girl made of ribbons and a mix-and-match toy…
Both of them, hopelessly in love.

—The World Tree, with its roots in Eden soil.
Its leaves continued to fall as if signalling the world’s impending demise. It was a grim reminder of our fate.
Fear seized me. Would I become like my father?
Still, no matter how much I thought about it, the answer wouldn’t come. I shook my head and kicked at the ground. It made the fear dissipate a little.
And then my mind was suddenly filled with her. She chose me and vowed to stay by my side no matter what happened… She was my beloved.
“But… she won’t be coming anytime soon.”
Where could she be right now? What could she be doing? I looked up at the sky and sighed. The woman, who was usually with me at this hour, was nowhere to be found.
“Well, whatever. It’s not like we promised to meet.”
Right. Whatever she was doing, it wasn’t really any of my business. Even if she were to get involved with any of my brothers, or even if she’d thoughtlessly become involved with the Mukamis–who had come to visit me lately–or the Founders… it had nothing to do with me.
“...Fuck!”
I didn’t want to be here any longer. I just had to leave. With that lazy excuse, I turned my back on the World Tree. I was going to find her… no, I was leaving under the pretext of surveying the area.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“...You still bothering with that shit?”
“S-Subaru…?!”
It was surprisingly easy to find her. She was in Eden’s flower garden. Most of the greenery in Eden had withered away, and so we had come to visit here often in an effort to restore the castle's former glory.
I peeked at her hands where she crouched down and saw that she was planting a slightly misshapen artificial flower into the soil. She was looking after the garden without me.
As soon as the thought crossed my mind, I scolded myself internally for my narrow-mindedness.
“Hey, hurry up. Let’s get you back to your room.”
“Could you wait a little? I’m almost done.”
“...”
Disappointment washed over me as I watched her shake her head. To make matters worse, she told me to go on ahead without her, even though I hadn’t even told her why I had come to see her. I sighed heavily and sat down on the ground.
Surely, she must have thought I would go home. She looked at me curiously.
“...Oh, come on.”
“Huh?”
“Come on! Don’t be so selfless. What I’m saying is, just… keep me company sometime.”
I must have gotten my point across, because her cheeks flushed and she hurriedly hid her face. Seeing her reaction, I felt myself falling into a pit of self-loathing. I hadn’t been planning on telling her. I became overwhelmed by embarrassment, and I wanted to get out of the situation immediately.
However–
“Ah…?!”
I inhaled sharply. Her frail body, which had been in front of me until just now, suddenly collided with my chest. Her arms wrapped around me, her slender fingers grabbing on to my clothes. I was so bewildered that I couldn’t even bring myself to push her away. It felt like forever until I processed what was happening.
Was she… hugging me? By the time I really noticed, it seemed that a few minutes had passed. She met my gaze with a slightly sullen expression.
“...Jeez. Don’t get carried away.”
I may have said that, but her embrace had instinctively sparked my desire for her. Her loveliness overwhelmed me, and I pulled her back into my arms.
I pressed a kiss to the nape of her neck. She shivered a little, probably because she was ticklish, and so in response I kept planting kisses on her skin until she could barely move.
“We’re going to your room. Now. You’d better prepare for what’s coming… alright?”
I whispered the words into her ear, no matter how embarrassing it was, and she simply nodded as I expected she would.
Only moments earlier, I had been lamenting my weaknesses and feeling jealous over her not spending time with me, but those thoughts all melted away in an instant. I hastened my pace as I led her to her room, gripping her hand tightly.
Right now, I just want to feel her. Her warmth, her touch, her voice, her body… I want all of her. I want to make her mine.

Mimic HRT: month 21 “Mended patience”
“Mx, are you alright? Is there something I could get you, water, earmuffs? You can ask if there's anything you need.”
“Huh? Oh, no water please. And I'm fine. It's just…”
“It's scary, right? Dealing with doctors I mean. I'd imagine being here is scary enough. Don't worry, everything will be ok. Now let's see… You're Jasmine, right? Jasmine Elwood? You use Gard/Graden neo pronouns, yes?
“Y-yes, that’s right.”
“It's a lovely name. You're a bit early, but I'll page Erian to check if he can see you now. You can take a seat if you like, and be sure to ask if you need assistance with anything.”
“um, are you a therian? I'm in the right clinic, yeah? it's just, I thought there would be others working here.”
“I'm an otherkin. A mimic. Almost two years in at this point. I just like using my human form when I work. It's tough to maintain but it's harder to work a computer otherwise. I'm currently an assistant to Dr. Erian, and also the receptionist for the next few months after the last one suddenly quit. I swear the more I work here the more I wonder how this place managed to stay afloat for so long. Sorry, I don't mean to make this place sound bad or cheap. It's helped me quite a lot with becoming who I was meant to be. I'm sure you'll find exactly what you're looking for here.”
“...Thanks.”
“Oh, looks like the doctor will see you now. But one last thing before you go in. You can choose if you would like to meet Dr. Erian alone, or if you wish for an assistant such as myself to sit in with you to make sure everything is more comfortable-
“Yes. that. Please. Uh, if that's ok.”
“Sure thing! Please follow me.”
* * *
“Hello. I'm Dr. Erian, and you would be Ms. Elwood, correct? Is that your actual family name? You'll need to use your real name or else there could be legal trouble. Eitherway, I’ve taken the time to read through most of the files that were transferred from your old provider. It seems you just entered your first year on a normal HRT which is good, we wouldn’t be able to give you this treatment otherwise. Now then, let’s take a look at the documentation you filled out for me. You should be grateful that we’ve now moved to an informed consent model due to certain clientele. Ahem, anyways, it says here you’re looking to become a golem? Odd, with your name I assumed you-
“Doctor. Please focus on the client, and don’t make assumptions.”
“Right. Well, switching from a carbon based lifeform to silicon is tricky and involves crossing not just a species threshold but also a biological one. Not to mention there could be a lot of damage to your body if anything goes wrong. Perhaps you could explain why you think you're a golem?”
“I, um, I- I’m sorry. I’m just a little nervous right now. I have trouble speaking sometimes.”
“Speak up Ms, I couldn't make out what you were- ow. Mayday! May I remind you that-
“Sorry about that Jasmine. You can ignore him for now. Focus on me and let’s take some deep breaths together. In and out ok? In and out, there you go! Do you think you could tell me what being a golem is like?”
“Um, it’s just, it’s just who and what I am. I can’t really describe it. It’s the only thing I can see myself as. There's some days where I just lie outside completely still and let nature move around me. It's peaceful.”
“Ok! Did you get that doc?”
“Sigh, alright fine. At least it sounds like you've been living as your preferred species for a while now. I suppose we can move on to other topics. It will take some time to formulate the proper medication for something like this, but through modern magic and medicine, it can be done. Now, we'll need to go over some paperwork, mostly an acknowledgement of potential risk. You could no longer be considered human depending on legal changes. I'll give you time to look it over.”
“Um, do… Do you know what I might look like if I took this medication? I know what I am but I'm a bit scared something is going to happen.”
“I could show you if you want, I have an idea of what you might want based on what you've told me…
…Well, what do you think? Oh! Please don't touch, I'm not actually made of rocks and you might poke a tooth.”
“Sorry it's just. You look like me. The real me.”
“Well doc? Think we can make something like this?”
“I suppose so, it won't have the specific details, but the general shape is possible. Let's continue the discussion on your treatment first, and if you agree, then we can have a prescription ready in a month.”
* * *
“You performed Adequately Ms. Mulberry. Perhaps you'll actually make a decent assistant, and it seems Ms. Elwood will have a bright future thanks to this clinic. There aren't any other client meetings today, so I'll have you handling prescriptions to send out to pharmacies. Before that though, how has the progress gone on documenting your species?”
“If you mean my mimicry in general, it's going well. I'll have my findings on your desk next month. If you mean learning about the other voice I've been hearing. No luck there. It doesn't show up unless I'm feeling some kind of extreme emotion. Looking back it feels like it wasn't just one voice, but several. It's hard to figure out, some of the others in the THEMS group have some ideas as to what it could be.
“Being influenced by the thoughts of a third party with no medical experience isn't going to solve anything. Please look into it further on your own. I can't move forward with patenting this medication without knowing if this is a potential side effect, or if it's just something in your head..”
“That certainly didn't stop you with me. Look, I'm still going to work with the support group if they can help. Plus when I start my therapy sessions it's going to be something that'll have to come up at some point. Someone else is going to be involved in this. What you should be focusing on right now is Jasmine's treatment.”
“Yes I really should start working on her tre-
“You mean garden treatment. And stop saying Ms. It's Mx. Gard listed garden gender as a non-binary option.”
“Yes, whatever. I have a lot of things to keep track of. Can't keep up with every little detail about a patient. That's your job now, and don't go forgetting who's in charge here! Your little blackmail attempt amounted to nothing. So don't go cutting me off again! Not now, and especially not during client meetings! I have the power to fire you if I see a single slip up. Remember which of us is the doctor and which of us is the assistant. Now then, I expect a report of your mimic status by next week and you should hurry along to fulfill your duties to our clients.”
“What do you mean it amounted to nothing?”
“Excuse me? What are you saying?”
“I'm saying that I'm here right now aren't I? I don't mean that you gave me this job, I mean you gave me legal access to all those files I wanted. It's kind of crazy you didn't realize. I guess I hit the nail on the head when I assumed you'd see me as an opportunity to show other therians that you're on our side. But now, I have complete access to everything and I can legally be a whistleblower to the public here. If you ever hurt me again, I'll send out everything. And I won't even be affected. After all, I'm just an innocent assistant concerned for the safety of the general public. I'm sure with your reputation completely sunk, it wouldn't be hard to replace you. There's a number of other doctors that would kill to have your position. You wouldn't survive.”
“You're implying I still have a reputation to lose. I felt pity for you when you fought for the last spark of hope in your life, to see you squandering it on threats like this… Are you truly so vain that you feel the need to pretend your bluff had weight.”
“Erian, I'm saying this for your own benefit. If people knew what kinds of things you did in this clinic. I don't mean you'd lose your medical license or be run out of town. I'm pretty sure they'd come after your life. This isn't a threat, this is a warning. We're equals here now, whether you like it or not. I could be much worse, but I've decided to play nice.”
“...I see. Sigh, I'll die of stress from you at this point. Why even work here if you hate it and myself so much?”
“Mayday, the actual Mayday, wanted to work here before she forgot everything. She wanted to learn how to help people. I feel like I owe her that much. I don’t care if I have to step over you or any other bigot to reach that goal.”
“Of course you’d say something hokey like that. Always painting your actions as the only noble ones around you. You really are a monster the media made you out to be.”
“You're the one who made me like this. I had to relearn everything about playing human. Besides, you should have known something like this would happen eventually. If not me then someone would have found enough dirt on you. You're kind of sloppy when you hide evidence… Huh, I thought this kind of conversation would make me more angry, but this has been oddly calming. I suppose it's me no longer recognizing you as a threat. Congrats, now we know others mimics won't inherently hate you. At least not always. Now I just see you as potential food.”
“Food? Tell me then Ms. Mulberry, Did a part of you enjoy the taste of flesh?”
“Don't push it. How about you get back to work, I have patients to care for.”

12 days of kolowv: day 4
my baby @theapocryphaofantares's birthday is in four days, and because i love him with all my heart he gets a small microfic every day until he gets his big present on his actual birthday.
prompt: sugarcoat | jegulus | words: 1,148
“You’re doing it again,” Regulus murmurs while lying on the couch. James is on the opposite side, rubbing Regulus’ ankle with one hand while holding a book in the other.
James hums, his focus still on his book, his fingers softly grazing Regulus’ skin. Regulus playfully shakes his foot, trying to get his boyfriend’s attention. James sighs, looking over at Regulus with a look that’s supposed to show that he’s annoyed, but he can’t help it—all it showed was adoration instead.
“What?” James says, setting his book on the coffee table.
“You’re doing that thing,” Regulus says. “You know.”
“No, I don’t know,” James replies. He turns his body to where his back is leaning against the arm of the couch. The two of them start intertwining their legs, and even though it’s uncomfortable, James has no intention of moving. “Are you going to tell me or am I going to have to guess?”
“That thing where you get in your head,” Regulus replies. “I could tell by the way your leg was shaking earlier.”
“That obvious, huh?”
Regulus sits up a little straighter, blinking a few times. “No. I know you.”
And that’s the thing, right? James Potter has known Regulus since they were kids—his best friend’s brother whom he just happened to fall in love with on the way to adulthood. James sometimes forgets how long they’ve known each other. They know what makes the other person tick, they know what makes the other person calm down—James knows Regulus like the back of his hand.
And Regulus never fails to remind him that he knows James better than anyone. He knows that James bites the skin off his chapped lips when he’s anxious—or the way that he shakes his leg when he doesn’t know where else to channel his nervousness. Regulus knows that James has the tendency to get in his head, and the only way that James can get over it and move on is by talking about it.
Something that James absolutely fucking hates.
“It’s nothing—”
“James,” Regulus interrupts. “Don’t do that.”
“Do what?”
“Sugarcoat what you’re feeling,” Regulus answers, sighing. Untangling their legs, Regulus moves spots on the couch, making himself comfortable sitting between James’ legs. Regulus leans his head on James’ chest and looks up at him, and James could fall in love a million times over with him and it would never get old.
“I’m not.”
“Yes, you are,” Regulus says, grabbing one of James’ hands, and intertwining their fingers. He squeezes James’ hand, as if to remind him that he’s still here and present and willing to listen. “We talked about this.”
James presses a delicate kiss on Regulus’ hair while he runs his thumb over Regulus’ knuckles. “I’m just…anxious.”
“Okay, we’re getting somewhere,” Regulus says. “What are you anxious about, exactly?”
And James doesn’t know how to verbalize that he’s scared Regulus is going to wake up one day and realize that he’s not worth it anymore.
It’s so stupid—absolutely ridiculous. Regulus has been with James for years, and what’s really triggering all of these emotions is that James is planning on proposing tomorrow. They have a trip planned to go to the local arboretum that’s out by a beach, and James rented the place out so that they could have some privacy. He wants to be able to tell Regulus just how much he loves him without an audience (he’s aware that Sirius and Remus will probably show up, but that’s a given at this point).
“You’re in your head again,” Regulus says, his voice bringing James back from his thoughts.
“I love you.”
Regulus pauses, and James watches as his chest rises and falls and he thinks that this is it—the moment that Regulus thinks he’s not worth anything, being with him was a waste of time—
“Oh, I see,” Regulus finally says. He starts to play with James’ fingers, tapping on them gently and caressing his hand. “James, are you aware how much I love you?”
“Well, yeah—”
“Liar,” Regulus states. “You’re a horrible liar.”
“I do know how much you love me.”
“Then why do you keep thinking I’m going to leave?” Regulus asks, and James feels all the air in his lungs leave and he’s tense now. Regulus can tell, because he brings James’ hand up to his lips and presses a kiss on his knuckles. “I’m going to make myself clear.”
“Okay.”
“I am yours,” Regulus tells him. “I am yours, forever and eternally. You can check the closets all you want for a packed suitcase, and you can stare at me until you think I’m going to get up and walk out that door, but I swear to you none of that is ever going to happen. I’m not sure where you got this idea that I’ll wake up one day and not want you, because you’re all that I want. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“I’m sorry,” James says, it comes out as quiet as a whisper.
“I don’t want you to be sorry,” Regulus replies. “I want you to remember that I love you. You show me every day how much you love me in your own way, and I need you to allow me to show you in my way. Will you let me do that?”
“Yeah,” James breathes out. “Yeah, I will.”
“How long have we been together?”
James snorts. “I don’t know—like, five years?”
“And how long have we known each other?”
“Since I was eleven.”
“You’re wrong,” Regulus says, looking up at him. “We’ve known each other and have been together in every lifetime, every universe.”
“That’s so cheesy,” James murmurs, kissing Regulus’ forehead. Regulus waves his hand, trying to whack James’ head. “What? It is.”
“Whatever,” Regulus says, rolling his eyes. “I mean it, James. I need you to work on not having these thoughts anymore. You’re worth more than you think. I know you have a hard time thinking so, but you do deserve the love that is being given to you.”
“I love you.”
“And I love you.”
They spend the rest of their night together, curled up in each other and whispering sweet words. They kiss each other until their lips are screaming at them to quit. They touch each other as if they’ll fall apart if they stop mapping out every inch of each other. And it’s at this moment that James understands—the more that he kisses Regulus, touches Regulus—that he was right: in every lifetime, every universe, they’re meant to be.
