#payneland#edwin x charles#dead boy detectives#dbda#pre canon angst brought to you by the weirdo who's always drawing post canon fluff#something about oral tradition and old timey slang#i took quite a lot of decisions with this one so buckle up#first of all the female ghost keeps edwin's eyes color because there's still some truth to the legend#the background is the same shade of green to reference hell#just like it is when he's having his flashback#alive charles is dressed all in black because he's not a happy boy#i also made it so that he grips his clothes when his mate punches him even as it's intended to be friendly#because well#these people will end up killing him so it's less friendly when you remember THAT#charles obviously doesn't mean anything by the mary ann comment#he doesn't know the slang meaning and just blurted out what he remembered from the legend#he will find out reach some conclussions and go punch a wall about it probably#about edwin tho his escape is still very recent and he didn't expect this#but even so early on he knows charles means no harm and allows himself to be comforted#it wasn't intentional but hey edwin shruggin off charles' touch is a good parallel to that one scene after charles “kills” the night nurse

Sometime in 2021 or 2022 I deleted a good amount of my old art from this blog and I really regret this now. Theres still art starting 2015 on here and I also never threw away any of my traditional art, but unfortunately Facebook deleted my old artist page where I had my first digital drawings and even older art from 2012-2017, I deleted my old twitter art acc and I also cant access my old laptop anymore because I forgot my pin and its also pretty damaged and the older I get the more upset I get about this. This is a reminder to artists of all kind to please save your art and to not throw anything away and to not delete anything. Your old art isn't embarrassing, it's the best art you made at that time and to be able to look back onto your old stuff and say "I've improved so much" is a great feeling.

Thinking about how if Shermy Pines. And like, if he is the baby, he’d be born in the 1970s and be 40 by 2012 and he’s already a grandad. He had to be a teen dad in the 80s (after a severe economic recession) and then his kid ended up being a teen parent by 1999 (Which is 8 years before ANOTHER SEVERE ECONOMIC RECESSION LOL)
Also he was born into a pretty broken family, probably rarely if ever saw his brothers. Do you think he ever saw Stanley before he had to start pretending to be Ford? Do you think Ford visited from college??? Because he didn’t seem confident facing his father until he made millions, so like???
And, like, do you think Filbrick and Caryn changed as parents by the time they raised Shermy? Because it seems like a trend that as parents get older they mellow out a bit, so Shermy probably has a completely different experience with their parents then Stan and Ford, and talking to them is just “is this seriously the same parents???” (Imagine the silent resentment that’d cause 😭😭😭)
Personally I headcannon that Shermy had a daughter (Mabel and Dipper’s mom) and not a son like it says on the wiki because c’mon. Can he just have a daughter. Idk why this is important to me but… c’mon. Can he just have a daughter. It just feels right to me.

it really does amaze me that i got to write a whole dissertation project on brecht and the monkees and nina simone and bob dylan and leonard cohen and phil ochs and star trek and starsky and hutch and the smothers brothers and harry belafonte and all these subjects and pieces of art that have meant so much to me that i absolutely love and while it did feel like it was held together by glue and popsicle sticks and string at points i had a committee who really understood my project and were so supportive of me writing about this era of performance and protest and alienation and while it was one of the hardest things i've ever done i am so happy not only that i finished with a phd but that i got to forge so many amazing connections along the way and that would have been worth it alone
#not everyone can say that their dissertation was a passion project but despite all the hardships of actually completing it mine really was#it was so hard and grad school took the majority of my twenties and that's something that i am still grappling with#but i got to write about work that i've loved since i was nine years old#and that writing was taken seriously and treated with respect and a critical eye by people who care about me and my work#during my defense many of my friends who came said ''wow your committee clearly loves you a lot!'' and i couldn't imagine a scenario where#that joy and love wasn't shared like. i know so many people get put through the ringer but i am so grateful to have had the best people on#my side throughout
