My mans, Disney single-handedly destroyed the Sequel Trilogy despite the Force Awakens being the gateway to something potentially fantastic; MCU'd the Mandalorian (a story which originally had nothing to do with the Prequel and OG Trilogy aside from sharing a universe and exploring a sect of a completely different culture/ideology); ego-boosted both Filoni and Favreau to the point where their OC Verse is not only canon but openly disregarding the Star Wars Universe Bible/Lore; gave us a snippet of what an extremely misunderstood indigenous culture is actually like (instead of portraying them as the savages one of the white leads mislabeled as animals that deserved to be slaughtered) only to then wipe out the tribe we got to know for no reason other than shock value thus alienating indigenous/poc viewers in the most disrespectful way possible; completely threw away the entire message of TCW (that being a clone does not make you incapable of being your own person who has their own thoughts, ideals, moral compass and overall identity) by making TBB (a show that does have it's strong points in set design, soundtrack orchestration and overall sound design, but is extremely weak on both characterization and storytelling because they either make the meaningful plot points stretch too thin or focus on the wrong character completely) their go to show marketed for kids instead of the actual kids programming that people shit on for being for, surprise, kids; constantly disregards valid critique from their consumers (to the point where infighting in the Fandom has gotten extremely ugly) that people either give up on interacting completely or simply vanish and take all their things with them (because no one seems to understand where these critiques come from, or how being unable to admit your special little show is imperfect is actually not a good thing for both you and others).

This isn't even accounting for the fact the Fandom seems to have doubled in it's overall toxicity since Disney took over. Which is par for the course when a mega corporation takes hold of something that started out extremely political in nature anyway. The Cash Cow machine needs feeding after all...

I went through the list of airing anime again and I will be picking up Mayonaka Punch! At first I ignored it because the description mentioned youtubing, and I find the topic of trying to become famous online obnoxious, but then someone shared a screenshot from it on twitter calling it yuri, so HERE I AM!! (Also, the character designs are adorable and it's an original work, which always raises my interest). The first episode was promising, both as an anime worth watching and an anime with some wlw action. The characters and the world seems fun and the animation was neat. It's by P.A. Works so make of that what you will.

Let's Talk About Security Culture: Why Keeping Secrets is Cool and Sexy

It's a natural impulse -- if you love crime -- to want to talk about how great it is. And if you hate America, it's only natural to want to share your dreams for its future with the rest of tumblr dot com. It can feel brave and transgressive. And there is a drive to share your soul with the world at the heart of social media. Surely I should be posting the most concrete implications of my politics, right? This is the poster's curse.

Security Culture refers to a set of "best practices" developed over the past several decades, largely (in a US context) coming out of radical environmental groups as they faced intense state repression, infiltration and entrapment. If you're not familiar, there's some fascinating crimethinc write ups to give you a window into that world:

Much of it boils down to: don't talk about crimes, past or forthcoming with people who don't need to know about them, and be mindful of the possibility of surveillance and infiltration. And, we can support each other as a community in minimizing risks, with an eye towards enabling bold action rather than getting bogged down in fears and anxieties. The guidelines that make sense for AG-based trouble-makers are different from the guidelines that make sense for posters, but plenty of common principles apply. To speak briefly to our position here as posters:

First, it bears saying that long term anonymity is nearly impossible to maintain. Unless you've never accessed Tumblr without a vpn, and avoided connections with other ppl who can be associated with you/your location, and never shared pictures without scrubbing metadata, and a bunch of other 100% consistent steps, it's trivial for the state to know who you are.

Second, just because something isn't actively being prosecuted now doesn't mean it can't be prosecuted later. The priorities of the state change and a shift in power towards the right or a growth in radical action from the left can suddenly make it a priority to destroy anarchist networks or just find a few ppl to prosecute as examples (who probably weren't that plugged into larger networks before getting arrested). Advocating for specific anti-government crimes or declarations of intent to commit such crimes are likely prosecutable, and even if charges don't stick, they're an easy vector for legal harassment.

Third, it's worth thinking about heat as separate from prosecutability. There are modes of engagement that may not be directly criminalized but signal that you are someone worth watching. Some people choose to be public in ways that make heat unavoidable. But it's worth noting that heat isn't strictly individualized, that it persists over time but also is going to shrink over time.

It's easy on here, ime, to see yourself as a proud member of the crime fandom but not much of a content creator. And it's easy to feel like you've generated an amount of heat where you're locked into that role. But heat you generated 10 years ago is probably pretty well gone. Heat you generated 5 years ago has faded substantially. It's worth thinking about how the world might shift in the coming years and what doors you want to keep open.

The non-individualized nature of heat also means that leaning into the spiciest of anti-state positions will make it a bad idea for people who are acting out those positions end up tied to you. Loudly talking about how "more people should be doing [X/Y/Z]" unfortunately sets you up to remain distant from people who might be doing or thinking about doing such things.

Which brings me back to: keeping secrets is sexy. Not spelling everything out builds intrigue. You can lay out a theoretical position and leave working out the practical implications of that as an exercise for the reader. There's value in opacity. The poster's curse and the drive to confess are extremely convenient for the state, but we can resist them. We can hold dreams in our hearts that we refuse to offer up to the posting spectacle.

Oh, nice! That's one of my favorite moments in all of Discworld, and I've brought it up before when discussing Paradox Space.

It's fun picking away at Scratch's chatlogs, trying to find statements that are technically 'false' - but the fact that he presents himself as truthful and yet succeeds in his manipulations anyway is very strong characterization. And it's that much stronger if Hussie's intention was that Scratch really, truly never lies.

spade speaks: this was supposed to be posted on the 12th but i got so busy so... i had fun with this prompt and thank jade-jini from tumblr dot com cause this prompt was lowkey rotting in my notes and it popped up in a conversation.

you’ve long been fascinated by the idea of hypnosis.

is it magic or acting - you never seem to get the grasp of whether it's real or fake. having to watch clips on youtube and questioning every single detail, from the reactions to the prompts; you’re left wondering.

you wonder if hypnosis could be used to make someone fall in love. looking at someone and immediately falling in love – not your cup of tea.

love at first sight wasn’t a trope you enjoyed. falling for someone based on their physical appearance made you feel off in some way. there are pretty girls you walk past on your way to class but not a single one that could make you go. “yeah, i’m in love with her”.

so, you merely believed that people who experienced love at first sight were either hypnotised or it was purely infatuation (or lust).

believing that you won’t experience it at all.

until you were on your late night convenience store run around the neighbourhood. with the city asleep, no cars coming by, or any possible dog to chase you; you enjoyed walking at night given that the world is asleep and you couldn’t possibly bump into someone you knew. no one sane enough would be out at 2 in the morning just to get snacks while cramming chapters for their exams.

as you walk inside hoping no one aside from the staff to be there. in the same aisle as you, stood a girl wearing a jacket from your university, hair in the shade of a light orange almost blonde, looking at the snacks you were planning on getting. you notice the hair right away, no one in your class has that bright hair colour aside from her. it was too late to go to another convenience store.

she’s already looking at you. 

looking into her striking eyes, something felt off. there’s something about her that you never understood. how’d she’d have guys falling for her, give her the things she desires only to leave them chasing after her.

maybe she likes the chase.

you were never one to act impulsively, especially when it comes to interacting with acquaintances.

she’s looking at you, like there’s some sort of spell and you can’t look away. even forcing yourself - you’re stuck as she walks past you to the counter.

she gives off such a peculiar scent, musky, powdery, with hints of something floral. walking by you again, she could only smile as your eyes were focused on her leaving figure.

a sudden urge to follow her tries to take over you but you shake the feeling away as you look back at the now empty stack of your favourite snack that she bought.

leaving the store with your second favourite and confusion in your face. the scene replaying in your mind - you’ve seen her before but that entire thing is nothing but a huge question mark and profanities running in your mind. how can someone who is irrelevant in your life make a huge change.

peaceful, quiet, not much going on aside from the fact that she is right next to you, stopping by the shelf next to your table and scanning the row of books that aren’t even in any of your majors.

dumbfounded looking at her and taking note of every single detail there is to her. bright coloured hair is now black with a chic comfy fit that was different from her somewhat sporty outfit the night you saw her at the convenience store. red top, with jeans, and a fuzzy bucket hat. her eyes are beautiful as ever as she scans the books, finding for the one she likes or needs. you don’t know what compelled you to go over and help her out. 

“looking for something?” you smiled at her, watching the way she reacts once you’ve made your presence known.

“oh- you’re y/n, right?” surprised that she remembers your name or let alone knows your face.

“yeah, sorry, i don’t remember your name.”

“yeji.” she reaches her hand out for you. as you take it and shake her hand you’re left wondering what made you so intrigued by this girl the other night.

since that day, yeji was always near. in class she’ll sit next to you and help you with lessons you're confused about. at the library where you study, and she’ll be nearby reading the book she was looking for the other day, or when you’re out with friends and she’ll be there minutes after with her set of friends.

it’s just a coincidence, right? how every place you go, she’ll be nearby. some places you’ve never been to become a constant just because you see a girl with cat-like eyes every now and then.

you’ve heard rumours how she’ll make you fall only to leave you right after. it’s a dangerous game, you know it but you can’t help but be drawn in. your body has no control when it comes to her, without a doubt immediately helping her with any mundane task or if she doesn’t understand the lesson that day.

warnings here and there on how dangerous hwang yeji is but you pay no mind. not when you’re wrapped around her finger with a single please and a look from her, like you’re hypnotised.

she blends in so perfectly within the crowd, popping out of nowhere when you least expect it but one you’ve noticed is how she always asks you for a favour with that smile of hers. it would have been fine if it were only that and nothing drastic - not until that one night at ryujin’s party.

it’s embedded in your mind on how soft her lips are, caressing your face as she pulls you closer, hearing her whisper your name like a secret, and her perfume lingering in your clothing the day after that you’re scared to wash it as if it’s your last memory of her.

hwang yeji made sure you won’t forget her that easily. running away together after class, only to kiss her in private - following her like a lost puppy. every single day you’re stuck by her side, days without her felt like a step towards insanity - how did it come to this?

it started slow - finding a way to enter your life, she executed it perfectly with the little things that slowly drove you insane.

then everything went by fast - the kiss. her touches. her perfume. but her secret was where you thought you’d finally made yeji choose to settle down and not run away like a stray cat after being fed for so long. how she opened up, her walls down but yours were completely bare. she had your heart then took it, running away once she got what she wanted.

you never believed that love at first sight is real. not until you experienced it yourself that it makes you question whether it’s actually hypnosis.

hwang yeji is like the cheshire cat, she appears whenever she wants to.

“y/n, love… could you help me with this?” with that alluring smile that makes your heart skip a beat. a nod and you’re back to being her puppet lost within the midst of her collection.

throwing a punch at him was not your best move as you’re getting kicked out - that same alluring smile with striking eyes. you hate how you fell for hwang yeji.

you’re slowly going insane as every single little thing reminds you of her. it’s insanity because how could she pull you in, take your heart and leave you bare with nothing but confusion, hatred, questioning everything.

wanted to add my two cents because shipping discourse is just all over recently. Forgive me rambling a bit here. I have a lot of thoughts on this topic and would like to get them out there in some form.

Stop harassing CC's about their boundaries.

Would you go up to a random person whom you've never met before in your life, who has never met you either, and likely has no idea who you are, purely to ask them if you can draw/write/ship them with one of their co-workers?

No! It's a wildly uncomfortable question to a lot of people, it puts them on the spot, and some CC's may not care as long as they never see it. Now that the concept has been shoved in their face, they're forced to view the idea.

I feel like a large part of the issue is the divide between younger, newer fandom members and older, traditional ones. Primarily the concept that fan content is not intended for CCs, but for fans specifically. Most 'traditional' and older fandom participants follow this view because that's what fandom is. You get to make cool things, and ramble about different head cannons and ideas with your friends and maybe find other fans who become your friends along the way. Maybe you want to throw these characters you really like into this elaborate superhero AU, or draw them in costume, or explore relationship dynamics because it's fun and you get to ramble with fellow fans. It's called a fandom for a reason!

I'd like to clarify here that this post is not meant to target anyone in particular; it's going off a general trend I've noticed.

There's been an influx of people who create fan works or fanart that seems to be aimed more to gain clout or to be noticed by CCs. It's something they wanted to make, but is leaving the realm of "by fans, for fans," in a sense that it seems to have lost more of that "for fans." The work is then shoved at the CC more aggressively than if it was just for friends.

There's a reason that spaces like AO3 and Tumblr exist with such large fan communities- because the communities are meant for fans. It's all well and good when CC's decide to take a peek or participate in said fan spaces of their own volition. They're the ones making the choice to engage. It's NOT all well and good when someone, as a fan, is trying to make that choice FOR them by shoving fanworks at the CC begging for clarification on what is okay with them. You're not going to help anyone in that way. Fan spaces exist separately from the CC spaces for a reason. The CC is a person behind the screen who you don't know. The character or role they play in the series you watch? You might know just about everything there is to know about them!

If a CC has laid out a boundary that they aren't comfortable with X Y Z, then there's a really, really simple solution here. Don't show it to them.

Don't put it in main tags, don't tag them in the post, hell, block the CC so you know they won't be able to view something that makes them uncomfortable.

There's a lot of what comes across as almost puritanical virtue signaling I've seen lately, where people are talking about CC boundaries everywhere and trying to police fanwork. I will again refer you to the point above. The fanwork is not made for the CC. It is made for fans, and if it is something the CC isn't comfortable with, then don't go posting it where they might regularly look at things (such as main fanart/fanwork tags.)

Yes, there are CCs who are over here. Yes, they look through fan works. This app is primarily a fan-oriented space and it has tags that CC's (or anyone else!!) can block to avoid things they are uncomfortable with. Though at this point the few that are over here either were already gay dot com natives or have basically become one.

I may have gone a bit off my original topic but TL;DR:

KEEP FAN WORKS TO FAN SPACES, AND STOP HARASSING THE CC'S PLEASE. LET THEM EXIST IN PEACE.

I like to think that one day some kid who watches the creature cases or wild kratts rn grows up and will re discover these silly shows they liked as a kid, so they'd look them up and find my art in tumblr dot com just like how i found some old ass wk art when i first joined the fandom

It warms up my heart idk, someone was here when i wasnt even thinking of passing by, and they left their mark, and when i arrived, there was so much to see, just like multiple people who also found joy in it and thought "people just like me also liked the show and put their time and heart to make art for it"
