Does anyone else find it sort of upsetting how widely popular House M.D. has seemingly become in online queer spaces with how violently acephobic and intersexist it is? Like, I don’t want to pretend that it’s only queerphobic towards aces and intersex people, because the show definitely engages in its fair share of early-2000s-typical casual transphobic and homophobic language, and I do think it’s pretty biphobic that, from what I remember of the show, they made 13 (the one canonically bisexual character) a promiscuous party girl tm.

But the show is extremely vitriolic towards intersex and asexual people, and I wish that the people who treat it like a haha funny toxic yaoi show would at least fucking acknowledge that. The show actively reinforces the ideas about intersex bodies which are used to justify the nonconsensual mutilation of intersex children. And the way the show treats asexuality is abysmal. I saw someone on here once say that it’s “funny” that House is canonically aphobic, as if it’s just a joke that the House episode about asexuality actively supports the idea that asexuals are all either liars or medically unwell and in need of “fixing”. Why is pro-conversion therapy rhetoric suddenly funny when it’s directed towards us?

I’m not saying that no one is allowed to enjoy the show at all. Hell, I used to really enjoy it too, at least before I got to the asexuality episode (shortly after finding out I’m ace and before I had ever seen even a single other representation of asexuality in mainstream media). But like. Can people at least stop outright ignoring the absolutely detrimental effects this show had on the ace community and the intersex community?

jax and breaking the fourth wall

ok so. so far, Jax has broken the fourth wall every episode.

in Ep 1, he looks directly at the camera.

in Ep 2, he shrugs at the camera.

"What do you, the viewers, think it is?"

and in Ep 3, he directly addresses the audience.

at first i was wondering why he's the only person addressing the audience, but i noticed how it's kinda interesting that the other characters dismiss the way he's acting, and how Zooble outright says "Will you stop doing that?"

so, i think it's more likely that Jax is just... making it up? as a way to disconnect himself from the circus and the people in it. that's not a new theory by any means, but i think it was solidified in Ep 4.

i think this is the first scene where we see Jax alone, and he says this. he doesn't look at the camera or anything, and is genuinely disturbed by the idea of someone watching him. it would be a weird thing for him to say if he knew that the viewers were watching him.

and a little later in the episode, there's a stark shift in his attitude as soon as he was certain that no one was watching.

so yeah. this guy's a total loser and he's pretending to talk to the "audience" to show that he doesn't care. he's masking his true feelings. because this whole episode is about masking and he parallels Ragatha so well and ouuuuhhhhh I LOVE THIS EPISODE FHDHDNJGJKVKG

i am so sick of never seeing polynesian representation in any form of media. why don't we get the same advocacy for representation as every other culture?

i'm glad that other cultures are finally getting more of the representation they deserve, but representation for polynesians has gone practically nowhere and i'm so sick of it.

why is all of our representation only ever stuff like moana or lilo and stitch? how come you guys sexualize and romanticize hawaiians so much and then dumb down and kill off every other type of polynesian? how come we always have to be fucking connected to the sea? how come we share a month with asian ethnicities when our traditions and cultures are vastly different from each other? how come one of my longtime friends straight up had to ask me what samoa is? why did they have to ask me? how come hawaii's annexation seems to only be taught in hawaii? how come i don't even know the history of my other polynesian cultures?

i never see people talking about this and honestly i can't even be entirely mad because most of it is that people just don't know we even exist.

please for love of god just learn about polynesian people. we're just fucking people.

You know you can just... make content about Lizzie. Instead of content about the lack of content. You can just draw her or write about her or make headcanons and essays about her, instead of about how there isn't any.
