i am so sick of never seeing polynesian representation in any form of media. why don't we get the same advocacy for representation as every other culture?
i'm glad that other cultures are finally getting more of the representation they deserve, but representation for polynesians has gone practically nowhere and i'm so sick of it.
why is all of our representation only ever stuff like moana or lilo and stitch? how come you guys sexualize and romanticize hawaiians so much and then dumb down and kill off every other type of polynesian? how come we always have to be fucking connected to the sea? how come we share a month with asian ethnicities when our traditions and cultures are vastly different from each other? how come one of my longtime friends straight up had to ask me what samoa is? why did they have to ask me? how come hawaii's annexation seems to only be taught in hawaii? how come i don't even know the history of my other polynesian cultures?
i never see people talking about this and honestly i can't even be entirely mad because most of it is that people just don't know we even exist.
i'm not moana. i'm not fucking aqua man. i'm not exotic. i'm not stupid. i'm not a savage. i'm not only from hawaii.
please for love of god just learn about polynesian people. we're just fucking people.

It was two hours before school started. Meaning, that Miguel had two hours to freshen himself up before meeting Manaia today. He woke up at 5 and brushed his teeth hard. So hard that the bristles were at different angles. He then settled at his friend's house, Sione, and texted him that he was waiting outside.
M.Ohara_99: Open the door.
mahi_sniffer: good morning to you too 😔
M.Ohara_99: Sione, it's six in the morning and it's freezing out here. Open the door.
aluaigioukae: can you not text the gc, you have private msgs for a reason stupid asses
mahi_sniffer: @aluaigioukae fuck up period clot n go back to sleep boi
[ M.Ohara_99: Sione, it's six in the morning and it's freezing out here. Open the door. ]
mahi_sniffer: ^Replied to M.Ohara_99's message^
: does that mean ur nips r hard
M.Ohara_99 is typing...
mahi_sniffer: does that mean ur nips are hard
read by M.Ohara_99
mahi_sniffer: HEY WHYD U LEAVE ME ON SEEN 😞
mahi_sniffer: IM KIDDING ILL OPEN THE DOOR MAN
Sione rushes out of his bed, running to the door and opening it. Laughing to himself as he sees Miguel's 6"9 standing there with his eyebrow raised. Sione's eyes lowering down to Miguel's chest. "So they are hard."
Tumblr media
That was half an hour ago, now Miguel and Sione were both at Kiuga's house. Both were sat on his bed, Sione facing the wall with his arms crossed.
"So after Kiuga gets ready, we're going to go to David's house?" Miguel asks Sione, face to face with his back. He watches as Sione shrugs his shoulders nonchalantly.
"Don'know," he responds dryly.
Miguels laughs to himself, pushing Sione from the back. "C'mon, it wasn't even that bad."
"What's he sooking about?" Kiuga asks, adjusting his ie lavalava that wrapped around his waist.
"I tapped his cheek because he was looking at my nipples-"
"Wroooong! You slapped me, idiot!" Sione whines, throwing a glare Miguel's way.
Kiuga chuckles, finally finished getting ready. Ruffling Sione's hair, wrapping an arm around his shoulder. "David's meeting us at school, he went early to have a personal fufu hour sesh in the school bathroom with his missus."
(a/n: fufu hour is this discord chat with a bunch of polynesians, its just straight up nudes, cookie calls, and sex☠️)
Miguel's face cringes while Sione pushes him away, "Can you not, cunt? Oh my fuck," He makes a gagging face, trying to shake off the image of one of his best friend's and their girlfriend having a quick root.
Tumblr media
It was time. Time has gone by and now the performances were ready to be showcased. Everyone was to sit inside the wide and large hall, face the stage while sitting in a cramped space next to others. This led Miguel to start freaking the absolute fuck out. Where should he sit? Next to her? Behind her? Or should he purposely sit in front of Manaia so she can gawk at his back muscles? Where was she even going to sit?
He pauses at the hall door upon seeing her sit down front row, along with other two girls on each side. Miguel mentally facepalms. Of course, she'd be in front row. She was performing.
Miguel nervously rubbed his sweaty palms and speedwalks outside the hall, making his way to the men's changing room. He sees Kiuga sitting down on one of the benches, huffing out a puff of smoke, throwing away the blunt instantly at the sight of him walking.
"Fuck, I thought you were Mr Smith," he chuckles, standing up to dap up Miguel, "He caught me last term, the rents were not happy with me... You got the thing I told you about?"
Miguel nods, pulling out a small box and showing it to his friend, smiling proudly.
"Okay, how much did this cost you?"
"Like $15 for one, I got another as well, so.. $30 altogether," Miguel smiles innocently, holding a dark red and blue flower and a purple flower together as a father would with a fish after their successful catch.
"The hell? Miguel, what sei shop did you go to?"
( a/n: A sei is a fake flower worn on your ear. Traditionally, if a sei is being worn on your right ear, it means you're single. If it's on the left ear, then it mean you're taken. Or can just be used decoration. I personally wear one for fun!!)
Miguel's smile falters slightly, "The one you told me to go to! Sialei's Boutique."
"Se aikae ia, that's the one I told you not to go to. Sione told you to go to that one. And we've learnt to never listen to Sione," he rolls his eyes at the mention of their friend, "The one I told you to go to only sold sei's for $15, but in a pack of 10. You only have 2."
"Oh fuck- Sorry. I didn't-"
"It doesn't matter now. Just remember the plan, okay?"
"Yeah, yeah! Right, I know."
"And that is?" Kiuga questions the latter, patting his back to comfort his nerves.
"Wait for everything to finish. Ask her if she's free to speak later, and then ask her out on a date?"
"Ia malo lava, great job, now go find us a seat inside, I'll be there soon."
"But where are you going to be?"
"Right beside you, I need to chuck a quick piss before it starts. Now go!"
Tumblr media
An hour and a half went by and the main event was coming to a near-end. Miguel sat in his seat uncomfortably, his legs sore from sitting in the same spot for so long, but he held on staying just to see you dance. However, the temptation of walking out the hall doors was getting to him.
"Fuck me," Miguel whispers, annoyed at the bicker he was stuck in between with. He sat in the middle of Sione and Kiuga, who were visibly arguing, spitting all over Miguel's face without care.
"Yeah, but I told you to pack the flag so we can run around with it!"
"No the fuck you didn't, cunt. YOU said you were going to bring it, you never told me to bring it!"
"Sione, I literally remember what you said. You, Miguel, and David were at my bloody house last night! You can ask Miguel. Right, Miguel!?"
Both heads turn to face the poor boy, he ignores them as the crowd around them starts to cheer at the MC walking on stage. "Kia Orana, everybody!" The loud voice echoes through the mic, a tall Kuki boy with slight pale skin held a bright smile, ushering for the audience to quiet down for him to speak. "Before the day ends, we have two more performances to finish us off! A couple dance then that will be followed by a group performance, so don't be afraid to give them a big cheer!"
He walks off the stage as another guy walks onto the middle of it, his head bowed down and muscular arms behind his back, the guy on stage had a similar build to Miguel's; only difference being he had a traditional tattoo run across his shoulder blade and down the right side of his chest.
The song had started and everyone had already started cheering, especially Kiuga. David, who was beside him, took out a big Samoan flag and started waving it around while cheering. Miguel laughs as Sione and Kiuga glare at David.
A minute into the dance, Miguel leans over to his right, "Who's that?" He whispers to Sione, his annoyance gone down as the two other boys had stopped arguing.
Sione goes silent for a while before answer, "The guy dancing?" he asks warily.
"Yeah, him."
The audience grows louder as they watch another figure walk onto the stage, locking hands with the other. His eyes refuse to avert, his breathing heaves at the sight of Manaia making her way on stage, her hand holding the latter. Miguel watches in disbelief as her smile, showing her pearly white teeth, winking at the audience. Her curly hair reached the back of her knees, complimenting the black and blue dress you wore. The sei she wore matching with the guy's ie lavalava.
"That's Manaia's ex, Seth..."
( a/n: for reference, here's the dance !! )

Someone snitched on Sebastian. Aurors came in the night and took him away, likely to Azkaban. Anne has been cured, by ancient magic and returned to Hogwarts, after healing her relationship with her brother as well.
Intro to my OC’s. POV is Jayden Mata’afa, a Slytherin. He’s an immigrant from Samoa, also an unregistered animagus. Leanna Turner (Ravenclaw) is the ancient magic OC. Tevita Kunatani (also Ravenclaw) is Leanna’s boyfriend, who has a strange and powerful connection to the ocean and all marine life. There’s more of them but that’s all for now
It was easy at first. We had a plan, we were working towards the plan. Find a loophole. Find some way to prove that he shouldn’t be condemned to Azkaban. We were full of energy, focus, and determination. Yet time after time, we hit dead ends. We sent owls to the ministry daily. We tried claiming self defense, but no. Insisting that since he is only 16, he shouldn’t be condemned for the rest of his life. Too young. But no. Everything we tried was shot down by the ministry. Slowly, we became more and more discouraged. “What if we find who did it?” I asked, one night in the undercroft. “What do you mean? Sebastian did it.” Ominis said, in a hoarse whisper. It was sometime in the early morning, and we had been up trying to think of anything. “No, sorry. What if we find who snitched on him? Make them redact it?” Both Anne and Ominis were silent for a moment. “That could work.” Said Anne. Her resolve had not shaken. She had come too far, and healed too much for her brother to be taken away. Angry? Sure. But this is her twin, and it had taken her a year to be able to reconcile with him. She wouldn’t lose him now. “But where to start? It could be anyone.” We pondered. It really could. In the school, outside of the school. Some random passerby that just happened to be in the wrong place. “We can start by going back to the catacomb. Retrace our steps. Find something that wasn’t from us. Do some real detective work.” I found my tone almost pleading. Not with Ominis and Anne, but with myself. Sebastian was my first friend. Yes, he made mistakes and let me down, but I loved him like family. “Can we do it tomorrow?” Ominis yawned. “I haven’t slept in days.” It was true. Ominis did look worse for wear. “Jayden and I will go.” Anne said. She stood and looked at me. “Now.” Like I said, determination. “Oh, okay. Yeah, let’s go.” Ominis shrugged, grumbled something that sounded like “be careful” and crashed on the couch. Anne and I hid ourselves under the guise of disillusionment, and made for the catacomb.
As we moved through the darkness, I found myself reflecting on the last five years. I came to Hogwarts as a first year, barely knowing English. I was scared, and alone. An orphan from a tiny island thousands of miles away. But I learned. I grew, and adapted. Sebastian, Anne, and Ominis were always my best friends. Then she came. Leanna Turner. The new student. Came in as a fifth year, and changed everything. Dare I say, ruined everything. We were working together, we were going to help Anne. Then all of a sudden, she shows up. She wins over the school in a week, saves us from a goblin invasion. The hero. She starts dating the only other Polynesian in the school, a Fijian named Tevita. He was cool. He could control water like nothing I’ve ever seen. We’ve always been close, me and him. But I don’t trust her. Somehow, she convinced Sebastian he didn’t need me. She pushed him too far, into dark magic and into mistakes he made without thinking. Anne snapped me out of my trance. “We’re here.” We entered the catacomb, and began to search. Casting revelio every two seconds. As we continued to find nothing, the hair on my neck suddenly stood straight up. I whipped around, and found Leanna at the end of my wand. “What are you doing here?” I said gruffly. “Jayden no.” Anne pushed down my wand hand and approached Leanna. “What is it Leanna?” Leanna continued to stare at me, then slowly opened her mouth and began to speak. “I’m doing the same as you. Trying to free my friend.” She said, unwavering. I scoffed, drawing a glare from Anne. “Leanna is our friend.” She said. “She healed me, and you’d do well to remember it.” I clenched my jaw, withheld my retort, and stood down. Leanna continued. “I’ve searched everywhere and everything. I’ve questioned everyone I can think of.” The Ravenclaw girl sighed, and tossed her golden hair over her shoulder. “And nothing. We’d have to break him out if we’re going to free him.” I could sense the serious sarcasm in her tone. I looked at Anne. She had a strange look in her eyes, scared yet focused. I recognized the same look that I saw in Sebastian’s eyes, when he was going down that dark path. “We will find something.” I told Anne, placing my hand reassuringly on her shoulder. “Yes, right. We will. I’m going to get some air.” Anne responded, and left me with Leanna.
We stood there a moment, awkwardly glancing around. “Why don’t you like me?” She finally said. “You’re a Ravenclaw, be smart and figure it out.” I retorted, and turned away to look for more evidence. More so, I was just trying to avoid her. “I think you blame me. I think that you assume I am the reason this happened.” I said nothing for a moment. Then stood, and faced her. “Yeah, I do think that. Everything was fine before you. We were going to figure it out. Then you came and now Seb is in Azkaban.” She looked at me, and for a moment I saw a crack in her confidence. Her silver blue eyes flickered down. “You’re not wrong. It did happen when I got here.” She gathered herself. “But I didn’t ever intend for this. I tried to contain his feelings and help him. I never ever thought this would happen. And if we’re going to get him back, we need to work together.” She was right, and I hated it. I sighed. “Okay. Truce.” I offered my hand, and she shook it. “I will try to trust you. Do not let me down. I don’t care how powerful you are.” She nodded silently, and we returned to the castle.
I was awoken with a jolt. It was Ominis. “Hey.” He said, his empty eyes staring above my head. “Anne has an idea.” He said grimly. I grumbled and got out of bed, to meet Anne in the undercroft. When we got there, she wasn’t there. Ominis and I sat for a moment, before she burst in with Leanna in tow. “Anne, I didn’t mean-“ Leanna tried to speak to Anne, but she was determined. “I have an idea.” Anne said, hands on her hips. “We are going to break Sebastian out of Azkaban.” Ominis spit out his tea, and I choked on my muffin. “I’ve just learned that every single owl that we have sent to the ministry has been intercepted. By Ruth Singer.” What a joke. Officer Singer was a pathetic excuse for law enforcement. “We don’t need to worry about that now.” Anne began to pace back and forth. “We have a secret weapon.” She continued. “And what might that be?” I inquired. She spun on her heel and looked at me. “Ominis.” Ominis spat out more tea. “Me? What? How?” Leanna’s face matched mine. Confused, intrigued, worried. “Your family has connections. We use that. We go to Azkaban, say that we’re visiting to interview an Auror for an assignment. Then we get him out.” I sighed. It could work. “It’d be risky Anne.” I said. “I don’t care. Worth it. Leanna said so yesterday.” Leanna stepped into the conversation. “Now, no, wait. I said at the rate we’ve been, we’d need to break him out. I never endorsed it.” She sighed. “But it could maybe work. We’d have to be perfect in our execution of the plan.” Ominis stood. “We’re going to do it. Anne is right, as is Leanna. This can work. But we need to be perfect.” My heartbeat quickened. Anne began to pace up and down, her nerves increasing. “We can do it. We can. But I need you all to know, if this does wrong? We join him.” I laughed loudly, startling everyone. “I’m an illegal bear. I know risks.” Anne and Ominis chuckled. Leanna’s confusion was amusing. Anne leaned over. “Animagus.” She whispered. “Ohhhhhh!” Leanna said with wide eyes. She then began to think. I think I know someone who can help us. Someone we all trust.” Ominis seemed hesitant. “Well, Azkaban is in the middle of the ocean right? It may help if we have an ocean guy.” I smiled. Ominis didn’t like most people, especially know it all Ravenclaws. But Tevita, he was different. Ominis loved him. “Ah. Yes. I agree.” Ominis said, a small smile peeking out of the corner of his mouth. “So it’s settled.” Anne said firmly. “We assemble our team. We save my brother.”

The next 6 posts will be the before and re-draw of 6 of my trolls WT oc’s. I made them back when the movie was first released and with the popularity increase that came with the 3rd movie, I decided to give them a little love again.
These drawings are of the troll ancestors with a more lore behind each character. Noted, this is all apart of my story, with my own spin on the cannon. Also I’m drawing them all in human form because I cannot draw trolls rn lol. My art is heavily inspired by celestfunk on instagram, previously on tumblr but I think they deleted the account. I am also a firm believer in Polynesian techno trolls lol.
This one is my main one, the Techno Ancestor. Dj. Queen. Siren.
Or Siren Ravewave.
Officially, she created music. It was her mindless playing around that created the first few notes. Then it was her excitement to show her friends (the other troll ancestors) her discovery, she plucked hairs from all their heads and showed them her ‘invention’. They each took turns, trying to make it sound more like something they would like. Then came the first a cappella, to which followed, music and colour. A unique genre for each of their uniqueness. Each of the 6 friends were regarded as kings and Queens, highly loved and respected.
However it was clear to all, that techno trolls possessed a greater ability than the others. Now it is quite simple to make a song (for the trolls) but to take a song from another genre and make it fit your own, that is difficult. For all but the techno trolls, who found it easy to remix songs to EDM. It is also why techno trolls hearts can be many colours, because though they are born techno and love the beat drop, sometimes they prefer things from pop genre, or classical. Their hearts show their true nature with no judge.
Techno troll rulers adapted to naming the era they ruled. Example, Queen Siren ruled the Galatnis Era, after a few 50-200 years, the next ruler would call their era SeaBeast ect. Not only that but each era would have a unique fashion trend.

the never ending process of thinking about my ocs and wanting to redesign them, yet again, because no one can behold me to staying with one design ever
LOTS of rambling about my ocs below the cut ye be warned
that being said i’m thinking about yavari. she just kind of became a mash up of things i like. i have no idea if i like the centipede tail anymore. i also had the idea of giving her a giant centipede as a familiar that wraps around her shoulders. what if i gave her a scorpion tail? the centipede tail is so large and awkward i wonder if she would benefit from having something more sleek but still deadly. there’s also the antenna… she used to have horns that got replaced with the antenna but i can’t decide if i like them anymore, they kinda compete with her big ass ears for space. hmm.
also been thinking about kamaka. they’ve got through so many iterations that he honestly doesn’t have any semblance of consistency besides being yavari’s foil and reluctant travel partner to lover. i thought about making her a binturong bc they’re very cute and fluffy but also deadly predators, but i could also see him as a bear? i once designed her as a bee too.
the only things i’ve got set in stone is that she is from a rich noble family and ran away to live their live how they wanted free from societal expectations. his original incarnation was a dwarf and i’ve been trying to think of ways to play into that? i also wanted to base their design off polynesian cultures to reflect the sea-faring aspect of the story? yavari is a pirate after all, and her clothing is a mishmash of what i imagine to be scrounged and upcycled clothes from wherever she found them.
i think the real problem is that i have only the bare fucking bones of the idea of a story. i have an idea of how they meet but nothing for where the story goes or how it ends, just a lot of ideas for how these characters interact and bounce off each other. 100% of this project is just mashing my dolls together and seeing what they do. the setting is fun adventure on the high seas, and i know i want their arc to be that they make each other better people by the end of the story. idk how that happens tho.
my specialty growing up was always making characters and thinking about how they interacted with each other and their setting and coming up with all kinds of intricate world building but i have no idea how to plot. what even is plot? i don’t know, i spend more time reading nonfiction books about plants and space and bugs than i do reading fiction, which is something i want to fix; gotta refuel the creativity tank
i’ll figure this whole thing out one day. it’s the journey not the destination etc etc
(all of the same stuff can be said about my concurrent project about alien worldbuilding. not a drop of plot to be seen there, either, nor can i stick to any final design decision!)

so a couple things about an oc of mine’s destiny au so far
they’re the one who introduces the guardian to flow (water-like subclass)
they also introduce a new weapon!! likely a trident, or something that’s a mix between that and a glaive
similar to sao, they try to make more friends than enemies
is of hawaiian polynesian descent
their VA would be Indya Moore (Shep from SU as an example)
is genderfluid/nb (uses she/her, he/him, and they/them!)
loves exos and robots in general, has a bit of experience with repairing them. their boyfriend is a hugeass chubby exo dude also!!
real friendly person, bit of a goof, but often has to be more serious than she wants to be because of the pressures that she’s facing as a guardian and just, you know, someone who has to keep up with all the work that they have to do.
possibly lives with some other humans, like a small settlement. he’s not the leader, but he does help protect and keep watch, as well as the peace
looooves sea animals!! especially cetaceans!! in their past life, they were a marine biologist.

no more tags but everythings under a cut bc i do not wish to be acknowledged
another cool idea was the spe au where gold and silver swap lives. no notes nancy means i have no idea where tf i was going w it but i remember being super into it at the time!! gold being a runaway rocket prince (i think????? or a runaway masked child) and silver living in a house full of pkmn with a doting mother. same teams different circumstances. a spe!gsc arc rewrite god i wish i had more to go off of
i have all of those pmshi oneshots from the fk verse compiled in a single doc which makes me remember i was supposed to do a 10-20yr follow-up coinciding w the giratina event. where i think red tells silver giovanni is outta jail on immunity or some bs and tells him without saying it flat that silver's gotta be the one to take care of him. as in. put him in the dirt. so thats what he and gold go to do while their small children are stuck in the distortion world trying to appease giratina. would still love to give that a shot someday. i remember doing most of those ficlets for writing warmups in english class. in. i was 16. maybe i did some for a creative writing elective too bc i remember doing fk stuff for that that never saw the light of day (in the classroom among my peers i mean)
the amnesia au is STILL a draft somewhere among my 106 drafts on here. i started that shit my second semester of uni and vividly remember spending most of the night dming someone on here abt details bc they asked and i couldnt stop myself even tho i was pulling an all-nighter to complete an art project due that next morning. ye so def when i didnt have my priorities straight goooooood thats so painful to think abt
the pmshi soulmate au was around that time too. admittedly i should've let it set more before posting to ao3 (one of the first things on my ao3 asaaaaaaaaaa kill me) but even tho my interest was killed for that i still would like to go back to it someday. when i am out of uni nd school in general and it becomes comfortable to write using my own experiences to some extent. truly that is the reason i ever stopped - school started to suck and i didn't wanna think abt it when writing smth and i still feel the same way now. maybe will revive it after graduation (and grad school prolly) since its still interesting but i am def rewriting that shit lmao
wygtm (sumo rewrite) i am still planning to come back to. still love it. still love the post-game epilogue i drafted while in a summer course in 2019. still love the sequel idea that incorporates usum elements while also being set in the future (so mizuki+lillie are adults and have established jobs in alola and some of the brunt of the usum plot is shoved onto an unsuspecting kid to mirror how those 2 handled sumo events (ailey i think????? was the name of usum!mizuki in the demo, so i ran with it. they were 2 separate ppl) buuuuuuut ik a holdup w that will be that ill have to rewrite everything and actually decide on a personality for mizuki and also. idk i still like the name faaora i think it was french polynesian??? or smth for "hero" which was fitting. this was before the selene/elio name reveal and before i liked moon. if i redid this now i'd jus call her mizuki and have her nn be moon like i did in komadori
oh i JUST checked n the perfectworld fic was last modified (digitally) august 2019. that literally could've been accidentally pressing a key and deleting it tho im not sure. i think my first rewrite was in a notebook so maybe this is the most current version n its digital. i opened it in 2022 which im almost positive was when i did those sketches for korrina and gurkinn's granddaughters from johto. dont you just love when you make ocs for a fic in your teens and still love them years down the line.
i think the last one of note is the ranger au set in sinnoh that p much is abandoned at this point bc i've admitted to hell n back that i didnt write plot details down anywhere n its been so long ive forgotten everything. the only thing i can repurpose is all the background info i had for the sinnoh quintet and how each of them has a difficult relationship with their family and why they're out as "wandering" trainers. i've thought abt this so much bc i still love the designs i gave those 5 and all the lore i established. was gonna do a riley/roark fic last summer using my tron notes for him so maybe this summer i will. doing smth for each of them in detail would be fun since i love them sooooooo. (also i can absolutely still stuff marley/candice into her fic and actually write polartwilight for the first time ever bc i looove them)
looking @ old fic i started when i was 14/15 is so funny bc im realizing once again why i never mark fics as abandoned even if its been literal years since i've touched them. specifically i was checking docs for stuff i started and either did or didn't post to ffn.
and its like. nothing is bad??? like i can see where my outside-the-box ideal of fic writing comes from. not just fics but writing in general, i'm p sure. even if it's a total cliche plot setup, there are details on each that rly make it stand out like oh yeahhhhhh i did have this great idea once upon a time.
funny too bc was it executed well in prose??? no absolutely not i wrote like shit when i was 15. would i revive an idea one day and revise it to be less cliche or cringy while still keeping the stand-out elements??? yea maybe. i might. everything i'm currently working on that i started from 2021 up to now still holds my supreme interest, but like i'm not gonna say never.
esp since i write fic first and foremost for my own need and specifically what i like to read, it makes it impossible to consider an idea i've thought extensively about "not worth writing anymore". anyway not making this too long i jus found everything interesting to consider

This is hard for me to write but also ok to reblog. No clowns.
(under a cut for length)
I knew that starting #UnwhitewashTBB was going to only increase whatever hate was already levied against me, and I was fine with that. But I don't know how many people realize just how bad it would get, especially earlier this year when the racists were feeling emboldened and the survey had just come out.
I got accused of being racist for pointing out racism. My friends who were Polynesian/Asian/Black/etc were accused of being racist against their own people for pointing out the racism in The Bad Batch--and they were called soft and liars and any number of names. There was that guy on twitter who was stalking my account, yelling at me through the survey, getting his friends to demand that I unblock him, etc. He eventually escalated to yelling at my friends on twitter to tell me to unblock him, and I did--just to say that he would remain blocked because that behavior was wildly inappropriate. He apologized to me on here, went back to talking about me, but took the survey again a few weeks ago to warn me about a potential anti-uwwtbb situation that he thought I should know about. He said he was trying to be a better man.
When the survey first came out, we got a lot of pornographic responses. Thirst comments directed at the Bad Batch, smut fics, you name it. It's since stopped, but those early days of the survey were rough. There's someone who semi-regularly takes the survey to accuse me of fetishizing the clones because I talk about Maaori culture (and I guess my URL sounds NSFW to them?), of being transphobic and ableist for having trans and autistic OCs (which is why I asked that one time), starting harassment campaigns against minors (????), etc. All of these are without evidence, but that doesn't stop them. I had folks call me alt right too, once. I don't enjoy checking the survey and seeing there's more responses.
Trolls make burner accounts to call me all sorts of names (spineless, racist, the occasional ableist slur) and they direct fatphobia and blatant ableism at my corunner @tieflingkisser. They direct racism, ableism, and other forms of bigotry at my friends. People take my zero tolerance policy for racism as me being "rude" and they use whatever issues they have with how I talk about racism/to racists as an excuse to not support the movement at all. I get personally blamed for a lack of support of uwwtbb quite often.
I guess, for whatever reason, its easier to attack just me for uwwtbb and to ignore the countless other people who talk about this regularly. Everything I post on here is used as evidence against me and "proof" that I'm actually a terrible person, a performative activist, a "slacktivist", a white woman (lmao)--and it's often reported directly to racist white fandom members. They literally never bring any evidence, but truth and honesty has never stopped these people.
It's stressful. It's anxiety inducing. It probably won't end when #UnwhitewashTBB ends.
I'm not going to stop the movement, but I can feel the kind of toll it's taking on me--and I very rarely talk about it because my appearing "weak" is just going to be another reason for racists to attack me. I'm sure many people think I'm just cruising along blithely dismissing racists left and right--and sometimes, I do do that.
But sometimes my skin goes cold and I start shaking and I feel like throwing up. Sometimes I wake up filled with dread. Sometimes I feel a buzzing anger under my skull that I can't identify the source of. I could have a good day and then come on here and see new racism in my inbox, another fucked up troll in the survey, another person blaming me for their lack of desire to support a movement that they have never once said anything about.
As I said: It's stressful. It's anxiety inducing. It probably won't end when #UnwhitewashTBB ends.

how is our flag means death? I see everyone talking about it and it looks great but I'm a bit uncomfortable with RPF and I'm worried it will feel awkward since Stede Bonnet and Edward Teach were real people :/
so, as someone who is also wildly uncomfortable with RPF - its basically a similar level of 'rpf' as something like black sails or hamilton, you know? so if those made you wildly uncomfy for rpf-specific reasons as opposed to content (or fandom....) reasons, you might have the same reaction to ofmd. hamilton i think is a bit worse - it sticks pretty closely to the historical side of historical fiction, whereas black sails (based on my limited knowledge of piracy in the 1700s) and our flag means death definitely hew closer to the fictional side of historical fiction, if that makes sense. which is great for kinda.. tempering the issues i have with rpf.
genuinely, my main discomfort with stuff focusing on real people has to do with people who are alive now, or who were alive more recently. like, if there was a show in progress about [spins wheel] obama and [pulls a card] harry styles falling in love, i would be SO uncomfortable with it (and, i think, rightly so). but there's a certain level of disconnect with watching a show about a real person from the 1700s, where historical records can only do so much, that makes it feel MUCH less weird, and i was able to get through black sails and ofmd with zero discomfort whatsoever related to rpf stuff!
with ofmd as well, i think both ed and stede (and izzy, i suppose) are very much so... vague allusions to who they were in real life. based on what i do know about him, i dont think the irl stede bonnet was a dandy fancyboy who just wanted to be kind all the time and used a 'people positive management style' with his crew, and blackbeard was definitely not a polynesian jewish man w heart eyes who decided to give it all up for an aristocrat he met on the high seas who, frankly, sucked shit irl.
(israel hands may have been a horny little freak irl, but i don't want to know. thats his business.)
there's also a specific level of handwaving in ofmd that makes it feel more baked in fiction than anything real - the characters are able to row across entire oceans (i guess????) in fucking canoes, there seems to be fast travel implemented based on how quickly they move around, and it very much so is 'oh this is convenient for the plot but doesnt make sense at all? put it in' which i actually found really enjoyable. (genuinely, there's a scene in which stede sails IN A DINGHY on THE OPEN OCEAN to a remote island with ZERO knowledge as to where the island is OR why he should be going there. but he shows up in a day. the show truly said we dont care and i love that for them.)
also, when i was watching ofmd (and black sails, which i know you didn't ask about but i WILL plug anyway), it was very easy to sort of... forget that they were real people and just enjoy the characters and the story! i think david jenkins (+ the other writers) do a really good job of sort of. taking the people's names and making them into characters of their own.
sorry this got long im rambly. yes ofmd is basically rpf, but the show itself feels so removed from the real blackbeard and stede bonnet that it's very easy to ignore that stuff.
honestly, give it a try! the show is an absolute delight and might genuinely be one of my faves of the year (yes its only march i am still confident in this). the discomfort about rpf is incredibly valid and i'm in the same boat as you (pirates, boat, get it), but our flag means death didn't kick up any of that for me, and i've watched the show three times now bc i am mentally ill. i would really recommend you give it a chance, and then if it does feel uncomfortable, you can always stop watching or just enjoy the supporting cast, which are basically all ocs there to be gay and cause problems.

First of all, thank you for this blog, it has been really helpful for me - also thank you for the efficient navigation. Now to my question: I'm toying with the idea of a white OC who has (or earns) the power to basically alter the structure of things and wants to use that to help with world hunger. They gotta see what they change, so they have to visit the places. They don't want to be hailed a white savior, and change their look - should I use obvious fantasy colors like grey or purple?
Solving World Hunger: Changing Skin to Fantasy Color to Avoid the White Savior
My take: this is absolutely positively going to disrespect Indigenous populations, so long as you have an outsider come in and do the thing. This reads as extremely Western-centric and reminds me of misguided “international development” students who think that just because they have a degree in solving global scale problems, it means they can be experts.
See, the thing about sustainable food practices is, the Indigenous populations of the area have already come up with pretty good solutions. They’ve lived in the landscape for thousands of years, after all, and were pretty scientific and focused on long-term gains instead of short-term profit. It’s about as close to perfect as multiple millennia of improving and testing can do.
It’s colonialist to erase culture in the name of “betterment”
Hunter/gatherers don’t always capitalistically “maximize” their food sources in ways Westerners recognize, but it’s sustainable has been part of their culture for thousands of years. Are you going to allow them to continue their practices, or are you going to say that their culture is wrong and they must be assimilated into agriculture (that might actually be completely unsustainable even if done by magic but you won’t see the effects for 50+ years)?
Anthropologists main role over the past few years have been to elevate the voices of Indigenous people who know what works best for the area they’ve been living in for generations. Outsiders, even the most well-educated outsiders, are going to get it wrong.
You can’t make them Indigenous to get around this, because Indigenous people are not a monolith.
Polynesian practices won’t work in sub-sahara Africa, Iroquois practices won’t work in the Amazon, etc. If you think that one ethnicity can solve the globe’s problems, you need to revisit the concept of expertise.
Eco-fascism is also a thing that happens in environmentalism very quickly, in the form of only certain types of food production/crops are “allowed” to thrive, and capitalism does not like sustainability because sustainability doesn’t exactly turn a profit. The best way to use land is often “inefficient” in the short term, but in the long term will provide a sustained food source even if that system looks much different from what we know.
The Indigenous populations around the globe have already had to deal with people who say their way of life is wrong, which your character is going to end up doing if they are the ones who decide what “the best” is. The Inuit are a fairly high-profile example, with how their seal and whale hunt is targeted; the North is such a place that seal and whale hunting is necessary, agriculture is impossible in the way we know it, and what the North needs is global warming to drastically reverse+ colonizers to stop messing with their ability to eat and for-fun hunters never setting foot in the Arctic again.
The problem isn’t the character’s skin tone. The problem is the fact they believe they can be an authority, when they cannot be at such a scale.
Decolonizing > “Fixing”
I would suggest having your character do decolonization work instead of “fixing” work. Decolonization means dismantling capitalism, restructuring agriculture/horticulture to focus on local species designed to live in the region, allowing populations to return to hunter/gatherer ways, removing invasive species (like the wrong species of earthworms in North America, which actually would need magic to fix), and restoring sovereignty of Indigenous peoples. It also means allowing greenhouses and a degree of sustainable supply chain for those with allergies who can’t eat local.
Indigenous peoples need to be centred in sustainable farming and animal husbandry practices. Their voices and their practices are what need to be elevated, instead of an outsider trying to guess what’s best in such a short period of time.
This means white people will be uncomfortable.
Because white people do not like to give up leadership positions. They don’t like being told they need to let go of power and remove themselves from authority. But they are not the authority on how best to work lands that they have only seen as capitalistic gains. Indigenous people are.
If you want to see the potential journeys this character can undergo, read Colette’s post below.
~ Mod Lesya
Readers will view your character as white
Even as a fantasy color, your “raceless” MC will be assigned white by the majority of your readers unless you put in work to indicate otherwise.
To the story’s world they might be an alien of sorts. To us, they are another white person who is saving the world.
White is seen as the default when you leave it to fill-in-the-blank. Race coding (adding details that would imply they’re from a specific race, ethnic background or culture) is how one avoids this.
Directions you could take
There’s a few ways you could go about this.
A. Make them an actual alien.
You could make them an alien, and actually develop an alien culture that does not parallel or borrow enough from specific cultures to imply they’re a human race equivalent. You would have to work pretty hard at this, as the elements you choose might come from existing regions and cultures. For example, a lot of “neutral” fantasy places are clearly coded with a European flair and no indication that they’re a Person of Color, thus implying white European descent. Then you’re back to square one with white-coded Alien solving the world’s problems.
B. Keep them white.
You could keep them white, but face the implications within the story’s world narrative and the perspective of readers.
Its a heavily discussed topic here, so you’ll find many resources.

Image: Game of Thrones, the TV series. White woman being lifted up and surrounded by tan and brown-skinned people. Minor spoilers will be discussed below.
Now, I know you don’t want a scene like the one pictured above. That’s why you’re considering they disguise themselves as a fantasy race. But there are some implications that come with a white person who snaps their fingers and solves a community’s problems like it was nothing.
“What, like it’s hard to solve world hunger?”
On the show, she is pretty much worshiped here, but does disrespect their people enough to lose the majority of their respect and be seen as the outsider coming into their lives as she is.
Something similar could happen where she is confronted with unintentional consequences of getting involved. There may be some backlash, mixed feelings, making it so your MC is not completely worshiped for their actions.
What about all of the efforts that people in the community made before your character came along? Might they confront your character, and how would they feel about them?
What if solving world hunger came with a price, and there were other issues that cropped up as a result?
What if the job is not done? As if they helped get it started, but maintaining keeping the world feed isn’t as “snap and done” as it seemed and opened up a new layer of problems that people have to deal with?
Think of how in some tales, when you get your wish from the genie, it may be answered almost too literally and the effects can be disastrous.
C. Make them a Person of Color.
This could still lead to issues too, similar to ones you’d find with the white savior. Just because someone is a POC doesn’t mean they’re immune to disrespecting other cultures and lifestyles, or of patronizing people.

Incredibly fun things about trying to draw characters from different worlds:
My Unnamed Fantasy World Characters
Toby doesn't have pupils.
Toby and Donovan constantly look like they're in despair. To be fair that is the case but man I just can't draw 'em happy.
Dragonborns! I went easy when I first made Blackrose, but now that she's Beleroso, her design changed with her name. Also I can't draw Feydrik. Vierzyca is a breeze, though.
Tianshi, girl, please settle on a design you absolute fucking nightmare.
Cadence has a square jaw, because fuck it. Let the pretty elven queens have some variety to them.
Elf ears. I hate elf ears.
Height differences get wild once you add halflings and dwarves to the mix.
Mermaids! Both a pain and a joy!
This fucking keep note I wrote to myself for some reason:
Tumblr media
Chain mail seriously fucking blows tho. I hate it.
If I don't have an idea of an outfit in mind, it's a long coat, pants, a scarf or neck accessory of some sort, and tall boots. There are a few exceptions, but some of the funniest ones would probably be Beleroso (she's always in a dress), Toby (I have no idea what that twink of a knight is doing), and Mina (who's constantly wearing whatever torn clothes she has on her person.)
Drawing gods in especially funny. Moirin has galaxy hair that reaches the floor. It is so hard to draw and color. Goddammit Moirin.
God knows I can't draw animals, let alone anthros and lycanthropes.
Molly's mask never looks consistent, plus turns out he's so damn pale that the mask is almost the same color as his skin.
Jadaki. Just Jadaki's whole deal.
Malori's colors are mildly biologically impossible but he sure looks cute so he can keep them.
I cannot draw weapons.
Pokémon OCs!
Lancelot has a dress code so it's easy to draw her, mostly: A dress, a pair of boots, and a hat or hair accessory of some sort.
Kostya has bandages going all the way up his arms and his flannel sleeves rolled up. Every time I draw him, I just kinda wonder what happened to warrant those this week.
James. James had no aesthetic or sense of style. I can draw him wearing literally anything and it would make sense.
I've never drawn Lancelot's mom (Annette), but I have drawn her dad (Finn) and she looks almost just like her father. Whoops. Whatever.
The other members of Kostya's league look more like champions than he does. You couldn't guess anyone's type specialty by looking at them. They're all scientists and only one of them wears a lab coat.
I don't know Polynesian tattoos. We're just going to swerve that whole debacle and figure something else out for Kana.
I have a character named after each of my Smash Bros mains in every single region I plan on making and I already know what most of them look like. I don't know why I did this to myself either but I can draw them all from memory for no apparent reason. (Lancelot is one of those characters even though she's from a canon region. She counts.)
I keep forgetting which eye Flynn is missing. He is legit missing an eye but I never remember which one.
Katsura is technically my brother's Pokemon Go character, and Kostya is mine, so their designs are based off their in-game appearance but because those look awful they're only mildly based off of those.
Finn looks incredibly soft. Like his design just looks super soft and friendly. I don't think I can ever draw him angry.
My Weird Animal World
I've gotten stunningly good at drawing catboys.
Goddamn you Leon and your stupid tail.
To hell with you too Camellia and your goddamned scales.
Fuck you Jackson! Fuck you and your stupid horns.
Lilac is a big titty goth bunnygirl gf and man I can't draw boobs.
Sarah Lee has clear skin in some parts. This sucks.
Crystal and all of her family are fucking weird.
Amber you femboy fox fuck choose a goddamn aesthetic.
Miscellaneous
I keep forgetting to give Lukas eyes. He has them, I just forget to draw them and this is just how I draw him now I guess.
Kane you bunnyboy twink nightmare why did I choose coffee bar cowboy when I was deciding on your outfit. Fuck you.
Ace and Reaper literally have no physical descriptions to them and I don't think I can draw them. What the hell you two. Ace is kinda small and Reaper is heavily scarred, but... That's it. I think Ace was a redhead but dammit that's all I have.
Ashley is a guy who can have moth wings. I can't draw moth wings.
Coyote can't actually get a fedora on due to her coyote ears and now I can't give her the full detective outfit. Guess we're just going to go full trenchcoat chaotic fashion then.
Lauren. Your boobs. Why are they so big?
Panther is a teenage superhero and I'm pretty sure half of his hero uniform is just stuff from Hot Topic. I think I genuinely just drew stuff that he found in his mom's closet, because she was most definitely a Hot Topic teenager too.
I can't draw Valka. I just can't.
There's a lot more that's just all I can think of right now.

(it's very long so prepare yourself for a looong read)
Many years ago, a girl by the name of Ailani was born on the planet Amoretia. Her father the prince of Amoretia and her mother a witch. Ailani was the product of an affair between the two. You see, her father was supposed to marry the neighboring princess that would end a war between both planets. Not wanting his affair to be discovered, he ordered an executioner to kill Ailani and her mother. With one chop of the axe came off her mother's head. As for Ailani. She was thrown in a river to drown. Fortunately, a local priest noticed the child being thrown. In an act of mercy, they pulled the poor thing out. Thinking that whoever throw them away must of not wanted the baby. So, the priest took in the small thing and had her raised by the nuns. They decided to give her the name Ailani. For the next fifteen years, Ailani was raised in a church by the nuns. They taught her how to read and write. Act like a proper lady. And had all the bible verses engraved into her mind. Ailani wasn't exactly raised in the most nurturing and loving place. The nuns didn't really raise Ailani as their own. They treated her fairly but it was obviously they didn't really like her. Reason why? They were massive racists. They didn't like her for her skin color so she was often met with abuse and bullying. They'd harshly critique her, push her down a flight of stairs, or straight up bully her. Regardless, Ailani kept her head up high. Being taught that revenge and wrath were sins. That she should love her enemy, no matter how hard they hurted her feelings.. or physically hurted her. Ailani would try to hide her anger but it was obvious that there cruelty was bothering her. Not wanting to commit the sin of wrath against the others, she decided to take her anger out on the forest. She'd spend hours during the night, punching trees. Often muttering to herself about her mistreatment. Sometimes, she'd end up breaking a few of the trees. It escalated from trees, to boulders, and a few times, beast's that would roam the forest. Of course, Ailani could never bring herself to killing the beast. So she'd up letting them go. Ailani ended up becoming physical stronger because of what she wad doing. Some of the civilians noticed this as whenever she wanted to do a simple task, like opening a door, she would accidentally break it off its hinges. Ailani would apologize right afterwards and try to fix it.
One day while attending church, a couple of theives came in, trying to rob the people attending. Ailani was not going to stand by and watch the people get their goods taken away from them. In an act of heroism, Ailani decided fight against the thieves. They laughed in her face and mocked her on how "a tiny little nun was gonna take down four men twice her size." They underestimated the fact that underneath that nun outfit was JACKED woman getting ready to knock their lights out. It took less than a few minutes for the four theives to beg for her to stop. Ailani told them to repent their ways before they were taken away to jail. Unfortunately, what happened right afterwards was Ailani getting kicked out of the church for "acting like a deranged hooligan." It was an obvious excuse for them just to kick her out but Ailani didn't seem to notice that. She was broken by this but instead of lashing out at them, she thanked them for having her there and wished them all well. Ailani moved away from her small village to seek work elsewhere.
As she was looking for work in the city, Quartzville, she stumbled across another problem. A pirates were invading the city as an act of revenge towards the king. Just as Ailani was going to leave to avoid further escalation, two wannabe "heros" came out to protect the citizens. One being a red haired young man by the name of "Sevi" and the other a valiante woman by the name of "Maribelle". They looked to be around Ailani age but clearly weren't as mature. The two tried to fight them off but embarrassingly failed. Ailani, not wanting to view their failure any longer, tried to leave once more. What stopped her was seeing the captain of the crew, stealing a toy away from a little girl then mocking her sadness. Angered by this, Ailani told the captain to knock it off. He mocked her as well which resulted in Ailani fighting him. She almost lost but by some sheer luck, managed to get in the final punch in, knocking him out. The royal guards arrived just on time in order to arrest the entire pirate crew. Some escaped but the majority weren't so lucky. Meanwhile, Ailani was cleaning the blood dropping down her nose when one of the wannabe heros walked up to her. It was Sevi. He seemed rather impressed by her strength. He introduced himself to her and asked if she would like to be apart of their hero group. Which only consisted of Sevi and Maribelle. Ailani wasn't sure if she should. She didn't know if in the eyes of God if this was the right thing to do. She has already been kicked out of her previous church for fighting and already felt guilty for committing another "sin". Sevi, realizing she was a religious person, decided to manipulate her by using her religion. Saying that "of course god would appreciate you for doing this" and that "you'll be just like all those heroes in the fairytal- I mean stories."
After being "convinced" it would be a virtuous act in the eyes of god, Ailani agreed to being apart of their group.
For the next few months, the trio would fight crimes and put criminals in jail. They were praised for their acts of heroism by the people of Amoretia. They'd often be gifted things like money, clothes, and alcohol. Mostly it'd be Maribelle and Sevi partaking in the gifts. Ailani on the other hand not so much. She didn't want compensation for her help, believing that it was wrong of her to get something in return. Strangely, Ailani would oftenly be the one doing most of the work. Sevi would often to get distracted trying to show off and Maribelle would let her anger get the best of her. Ailani would just get straight to the point. Shed be the one favored the most out of the three of them. Ailani didn't care that she was more liked, she's doing her job. Meanwhile, Sevi was growing jealous of the favoritism she was facing. Maribelle, could care less. She only wanted alcohol after all.
Sevi would make it obvious he was jealous towards Ailani. Ailani being kind-hearted would try to make him feel better. This would work sometimes but most of the time he'd brush her off. Ailani still persisted in making him happy. Secretly, Ailani had feelings for Sevi. She thought he was attractive, smart, and charismatic. This was the first person she was ever in love with. Someone she felt that understood her as a person. Ailani often felt that it was her fault for his unhappiness, so she tried to make him happy in any way she could. Realizing that Ailani would do anything for him, Sevi had some rather interesting thoughts he could do with her... Such as making her risk her life to get him things, convince the public that he deserves all the credit for their victories, and had her do some inappropriate favors for him. Ailani didn't care how stressful his tasks were. If it made him happy, she was happy. They ended up getting into a relationship when Sevi thought she was "good enough" for him. Ailani was enthralled with their relationship, finally getting to be with her one true love. She believed that they were meant to be.
Although their relationship came crashing down, when the trio went to a party at the king's castle. Their they met the king, the queen, and the princess, Angelina Amore. Angelina was a beautiful pink haired maiden with a bubbly attitude. Albeit she was incredibly spoiled, many men still wanted to marry her. One of those men being Sevi. It wasn't purely out of love but more out of wanting to be king. He immediately asked for the king for his daughters hand in marriage. The king turned him down, not wanting his daughter to marry a peasant. Although, he quickly reiterated his answer when seeing Ailani at the party. He couldn't believe it with his own eyes. Was that his daughter?? The same child he requested to be killed many years ago?? Alive? No. It couldn't be. After processing what he saw. He thought to himself that she shouldn't be kept alive. His reasoning being what if she revealed that he cheated on his wife? The resembles of her looking like him was far too much. He could be kicked from his throne if the people of Amoretia found out. Amoretians don't take cheating on your spouse very lightly... Deciding she shouldn't be kept alive. Yet the people loved her so much. Her disappearnce would obviously go under investigation... The king decided to make a deal with Sevi. If he got rid of Ailani, he could marry Angelina as a reward. Sevi agreed to the deal.
After the party, the king let the three heros stay in his castle for the night. As they all went to sleep, Sevi snuck out from his room and went to the servants room. He proceeded to slit their throats, killing them in their sleep. Sevi then went to Ailani room where he placed the knife he used in her bed. He proceeded to covered her hands in blood as well as the sheets. In the morning, the queen screamed at the sight of her servant staff lifeless bodies. Immediately, people started questioning who committed such a horrible crime. Then Ailani came out of her room, covered in blood. Seeing the blood, the queen blamed her for what happened. She wanted Ailani to be executed for her crimes. Ailani tried to reason with the queen, pleading that she was innocent. She even tried to have Sevi to convince her that it wasn't true. Sevi, turned his back on her and said she must have done it. The king stepped in between the two women, trying to calm both down. Albeit, the evidence was too far stacked against Ailani. The king sentenced her to life in prison on the planet Xevari. She was then dragged away by the guards and put on a ship where she'd be shipped off to Xevari. Xevari was one of the worst planets to be on. The entire planet was dedicated to being a prison for the worst possible inmates, who've committed the worst crimes. The guards would often treat the inmate like dirt. Some inmates were violently killed and there bodies were never found again. Fights would happen everyday over the smallest issues. It was quite literally a hell on Earth... As soon as Ailani arrived, she was treated no different than the other inmates. Even though she was on the worst planet in the eitherium, Ailani tried to be kind and thoughtful towards everyone. This only made the inmates and guards despise her. Ailani would be picked on by everyone in the jail. Didn't matter if they were a low ranking officer or a the biggest guy in courtyard. Ailani would be treated awful. Yet, she still persisted in being kind. One day a new inmate arrived. A special type of inmate was put in the prison. The inmate was a large hell beast of dragon with a skeletal appearance. It killed anything in it's path for killing was all that it knew. Ailani took interest in the creature. One night, she visited it. What she saw was the dragon with several scars and a spear piercing one of its wings. Ailani felt pity for it and immediately tried to help it. The dragon tried to attack her but after realizing she was helping him, stopped to let her pull it out. After that incident, Ailani formed a bond with the creature because they shared similar experiences. They were both tormented by the inmates and guards. There was unfortunately nothing that they could do about it. Ailani wasn't as strong and the dragon was chained down. But they had each other. Ailani decided to call the beast "Carrion". A play ok words as he seemed to always "carry on living". The dragon didn't understand puns buy none the less took the name regardless. The guards noticed her befriending the hell beast and decided that they weren't going to let her have a simple slice of happiness within this jail.
The guards decided to punish her by throwing her into a room with all the deranged lunatics. Saying, "try being kind to these crazies" before chuckling and walking off. What happened next was Ailani getting forced on by all the men in the room. It was a horrible experience and one that would finally be the breaking point for her. Once they were done with her, she was left in an emotional state. Hyperventilating and crying. Ailani questioned how she got herself into this situation. Why would god curse her to suffer through this fate? What did she do wrong? After questioning herself, Ailani was dragged back into her cell. Where another guard proceeded to rape her. The following days, Ailani would be in a state of shock over what happened. She had thoughts running through her mind still questioning her own religion and actions. Ailani hadn't realized this but she was pregnant at the time from being raped. She unfortunately went through an incredibly painful miscarriage in her cell. No one came to help her or take her to a doctor. While having a psychotic breakdown, Ailani finally came to the conclusion to all the roots of her problems. Love. Love was the reason why she was here... She has her love to the wrong people, she loved the wrong person, she loved... In that very moment, Ailani became a hateful person. She wanted revenge and she was going to get it. Ailani silently made plans on how she could escape from the prison. She went with the best possible outcome. When the guards weren't watching, Ailani took the pair of keys they had in their pocket. She unlocked herself from cell and immediately headed towards Carrion's cell. Ailani freed him from his chains. What followed next was mayhem. Carrion destroyed and killed multiple people as him and Ailani made their escape. No one could seem to stop the beast so they best thing to do was run... Eventually, they got off of Xevari with Carrion flying away while Ailani was on his back. Ailani told Carrion to go to the planet Amoretia. She promised him that there was plenty of victims to eat if he listened to her. That same day they were arriving to the planet was the day Sevi was marrying Angelina. The spoiled princess finally agreed to marry him after some persuasion from her parents. Just as Angelina was walking down the aisle to her new husband, Carrion flew down and devoured the princess. Carrion blew his acidic fire breath towards all the guests as Ailani went for the king and queen. She blamed them for her issues and wanted to kill them both. With one chop from an axe came off the queens head. The king desperately pleaded with Ailani to not kill him. He even said that he was her father in a last attempt to save himself. That only fueled Ailani's anger even more. She chopped off all his limbs and went for his head last. As for Sevi, he met the same fate as Angelina. Albeit more gruesome. Carrion tore the tiny man apart before eating him as well. Amoretia became disarray. All the royals were now dead. Who would take charge next..? Unfortunately it would be whoever was the last blood relative... Ailani.
No one wanted her to rule seeing as how she was responsible for their deaths in the first place. But they had to bow to her... You see only blood relatives could be in charge of Amoretia for they could yield the magical staff that protects Amoretia. Passed from the older generations, the staff was entrusted to the future generations to protect Amoretia. To use it's magic to help others in need. Ailani now knowing of this power, took it for herself. The staff dramatically changed from it's colors of white, red, and pink to black and red. Instead of using its power for good... She used it to torture others and make them suffer. Ailani changed her name once she got a hold of the staff... She changed it to Hatred. For that was the only feeling she could feel now. Hatred made it clear that she was the eitherium's savior and it needed a deep cleansing to get rid of love. She blamed love for all the problems that exist. Saying love was an unnatural feeling, a disease of sorts that plagued ones mind. Hatred was going to get rid of all love. In any way she could, no matter how hard it took.
Her tyranny started with her forcing her new ideology on the people of Amoretia. The people tried revolting against her but with the help of her new staff and her pet, Carrion, they were silenced into submission. She managed to "cleanse" Amoretia by getting rid of all love. Hatred went from Amoretia to neighboring planets in order to "cleanse" them as well. Multiple planets faced the same fate as Amoretia. Becoming incredibly miserable to live in. A war started between Hatred against the entire eitherium. No one wanted to believe this insane woman's ideology and they certainly weren't going to submit to her either without a fight. So the war went on, with both sides facing multiple casualties. Hatred went on with an ironfist, refusing to give up. She'd often take kidnapped soldiers and torture them back on Amoretia. Pictures of the soldier's mutaliated bodies surfaced with the intent of driving fear into her enemies hearts. Albeit as the war went on, she became very paranoid. She felt like someone was plotting to kill her. To stop her from cleansing the eitherium. She'd have frequent nightmares about it. Hatred refused to sleep or even eat anything in case it was poisoned. In order to ease her paranoia, she tried conducting a spell that would make her immortal... Hatred couldn't risk dying because she believed it was in her virtuous purpose to make all love disappear. After multiple months, she managed to make an elixir of immortality. She drank it which killed her minute but immediately brought her back to life. It caused her hair color to change to black and her eyes to a red hue. Now that she was immortality, there was absolutely nothing standing in her way. She conducted more spells so that her army could become stronger, faster, and easier to control. The armies against her, couldn't take it anymore. They were on the verge of giving up. It seemed like Hatred was going to win. The eitherium was going to become an utter hellhole from now on... Luckily, as Hatred planned her next attack, she was ambushed by enemy soldiers. Somehow they were able to kill Carrion and managed to get to her. Hatred didn't have her army with her and tried using her magic. Fortunately with there being more enemies against her, she was promptly knocked out and had her staff taken away from her. A couple of hours had passed and Hatred woke up with chains all around her. She was at the bottom of a well and above her were the leaders, looking down at her. They declared that this was her punishment for the crimes that she's committed. Hatred tried to argue that what she was doing was an act of good and that love was a true plague on the world. Not wanting to listen to her rambling anymore, the sealed up the well and left her there to rot..
The leaders of the other planets announced that Hatred was dead. They were lying but it was too keep the people safe and to not cause panic. Albeit, some rumors floated around saying that she wasn't actually dead.. perhaps she was still alive.. being kept somewhere.. and maybe... Just maybe.. she was planning on returning one day.
Likes:
Torture, heavy metal, red wine, writing, and "enlightening" others
Dislikes:
Love, children, making fun of her ideology, and essentially everything/everyone else in the universe
Weaknesses:
Anger; her own anger is her weakness. While she's on a rampage, she'll be too angry to realize what's happening around her.
Easy to manipulate; hatred makes it obvious what her goals are which can be taken advantage of by others.
Harm; she may be immortal but she can still have harm inflicted on her.
Ambition; Hatred will do anything it takes to get to her goal of destroying all love
Strengths:
Physical strength; she's so strong she can break your arm like a bar of twix.
Strategy; is skilled in battle strategy to know how to attack her enemy
Immortal; unfortunately she can't really die.
Pets:
Has a large hell beast of a dragon by the name of Carrion. It's a skeletal dragon that can firebreath acidic fire. He likes to tear the bones from his victims and add it to his own body in order to make himself look more fearsome and bigger.
Weapons:
Magical staff; a staff that which can perform any type of magic. Currently being occupied by the Terran royal family.
Duel swords; two swords used for the purpose of harming others
Other:
As an initiation to join her army, soldiers have masks sewn onto their faces. In her ideology they were giving themselves a new purpose so they needed a new identity.

Bridging the Gap.
Filmmaker So Yun Um highlights ten underrated Asian American and Pacific Islander films set against the backdrop of America.
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month has many film lovers seeking to celebrate Asian American cinema. Beyond Minari, Always Be My Maybe and Crazy Rich Asians, there are dozens of films that depict the Asian American experience. In choosing to focus on ten of the lesser-seen, I contemplated the notion of what defines AAPI cinema.
For me, it goes deeper than films that have been directed by, or star, Asian American and Pacific artists. Having watched a wide selection of Asian American films, I can firmly say our cinema, no matter the genre, puts Asian Americans at the forefront on both sides of the camera. I believe the essence of Asian American cinema was born out of resourcefulness, mining themes and ideas that distinctly bridge the gap between Asian and American culture. These films tell stories that explore the vast differences between the two, and the ways in which they coexist, whether comfortably or uncomfortably.
In selecting these ten underrated AAPI films, I searched deep to find stories with uncompromising vision and character; stories about Asians that could only be told within, and against the backdrop of, America. These ten films highlight intimate, distinct and unfiltered experiences mostly unseen at our local multiplexes: family and cultural obligations, generational and cultural gaps, and raw, mostly obscured views of American life.

Chan is Missing (1982) Directed by Wayne Wang, written by Isaac Cronin and Wayne Wang
There would be no Asian American independent cinema without Wayne Wang’s Chan is Missing. Shot on black-and-white film, this striking noir follows Jo, a San Franciscan cab driver, and his nephew, Steve, as they track down the titular Chan after he disappears with their money. Wang’s unpredictable directing career spans neighborhood intrigues, rom-coms and family movies; alongside which, he has kept a strong focus on Asian American stories (he helmed the adaptation of Amy Tan’s generational bestseller, The Joy Luck Club).
In Chan is Missing, for the first time on screen, we get to finally see an “ABC” (American-Born Chinese) story from the source, with an all-access pass to the often misunderstood terrain and people of Chinatown. It’s the tightness of the plot and the authenticity of its characters that make this movie such a classic. Even after 40 years, Chan Is Missing doesn’t feel dated—its laugh-out-loud dialogue (they actually utter the word “FOB”!) and moody tone capture why Chinatown continues to be an enigma. Spoilers: Chinatown runs by its own rules.

Better Luck Tomorrow (2002) Directed by Justin Lin, written by Ernesto Foronda, Justin Lin and Fabian Marquez
Justin Lin’s directorial debut film is a visionary portrait of Asian Americans that’s still relevant two decades on. Since its release in the early aughts, there has yet to be a film that explores the nuances and complexities of the average Southern-California Asian American teen like this film does. Better Luck Tomorrow focuses on a group of Asian American overachievers who become bored with their lives and enter a world of petty crime. It’s loosely based on four Sunny Hills High School students and the real-life murder of Stuart Tay, a teenager from the OC.
With its depiction of overachieving A+ students who are also foul-mouthed, drug-taking kids, this film was the launching pad for many iconic Asian American actors today—Sung Kang from the Fast and Furious franchise, John Cho (Star Trek) and my personal favorite, Jason Tobin, star of the Warrior TV series. (It’s entertaining to see the seeds of the Fast and Furious series planted in this film in the character of Han, played by Sung Kang, before the explosion of the franchise: one of the characters mutters, “Rumors about us came and went fast and furious”—and the rest is history.)
Better Luck Tomorrow still stands as the most iconic film to capture the suburban Asian American teen existence in all its good, bad and ugly light. “I was part of a movement,” Tobin recalled in this GQ oral history of the film, “and it was a culmination of all the battles I had fought before that to get Asian faces on the big screen.”
Available to stream and rent on multiple platforms.

The Grace Lee Project (2005) Directed by Grace Lee
If you’re an Asian American who grew up in California or New York, chances are, you know at least two Grace Lees in your life. But growing up in Missouri, Korean American filmmaker Grace Lee was the only one she knew with her name. She soon discovers that with the name comes a certain stereotype, that of the “good” Asian—quiet, well-behaved and a hard worker. Lee goes on a quest to interview a wide range of women who have the same name and soon discover if this wildly common stereotype is true.
Lee’s witty, autobiographical documentary is effortlessly funny and insightful. The Grace Lee Project dives deep into identity politics to reveal that sometimes, a name is simply a name. This was the start of Grace Lee’s journey as a filmmaker and she continues to be an important voice in not just the documentary space but in narrative stories as well.

Saving Face (2004) Written and directed by Alice Wu
Alice Wu’s Saving Face is a timeless queer love story. Produced by none other than Will Smith (yes, that Will Smith), Saving Face follows a Chinese American lesbian woman and her traditional mother (played by Michelle Krusiec and Joan Chen, respectively) as both battle with their reluctance to go against cultural expectations and reveal their secret loves. It’s part family drama, part rom-com, exploring expectations specific to Asian women across generations.
While most Asian American films focus on familial obligations through the point of view of the children of immigrants, Wu’s film considers the conflicts of both daughter and mother. For Asian Americans, it’s a tale as old as time but with a twist that shows that no matter how old you get, you still have to, unfortunately, fight to be who you are. I also highly recommend Wu’s spiritual sequel, The Half of It, on Netflix.
Streaming on Amazon Prime and Tubi, and for rent on various VOD platforms.

In Between Days (‘방황의 날들’, 2007) Directed by So Yong Kim, written by Bradley Rust Gray and So Yong Kim
So Yong Kim’s debut feature, In Between Days, follows Jiseon Kim, a Korean teen immigrant, who falls in love with her best friend while navigating the challenges of living in a new country. Director Kim is a masterful storyteller and captures life as it should be seen: unfiltered and trivial at times, but using the mundane to find cinematic magic.
I like to categorize So Yong Kim’s work as a showcase of extreme intimacy. Her story features painfully delicate characters and moments so real, you’ll wonder how any of these scenes could be fiction. There’s a sense of vulnerability and loneliness that fills the air as Jiseon struggles to assimilate to a new country, replete with toxic relationships, self-sabotage and unrelenting jealousy. So Yong Kim’s work is so painfully real, it hurts to watch.
Available on Kanopy and Amazon.

Ping Pong Playa (2007) Directed by Jessica Yu, written by Jimmy Tsai and Jessica Yu
There are two things that embody countless Asian American men’s experience: their love for basketball, and their love of rap music. Ping Pong Playa covers both, and is exactly the kind of Asian American comedy I’ve been waiting for! Christopher “C-Dub” Wang (played by co-writer Jimmy Tsai) is a wannabe baller and a supreme slacker who has to step up to the plate when his family’s business and ping-pong-champion reputation is on the line. In addition to being centered around an Asian family, the core of the film rivals any other low-brow, underdog sport film.
Laugh-out-loud hilarious, this is Academy-Award-winning filmmaker Jessica Yu’s first narrative feature, following a groundbreaking career full of daring documentaries (her Oscar was for this portrait of writer Mark O’Brien, who spent much of his life in an iron lung). Seeing C-Dub as an NBA-loving slacker turned ping-pong playa felt validating; it showed that even if you’re a lazy and immature Asian, you can always find something to succeed at.
Streaming on Tubi, and for rent on Amazon and iTunes.

In Football We Trust (2015) Directed by Tony Vainuku and Erika Cohn
While Salt Lake City, Utah, is seen as predominantly a white Mormon town, it in fact has the largest population of Pacific Islanders in the US mainland, due to the strength of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ proselytizing in the Pacific. The documentary In Football We Trust follows four Polynesian high-school students, as they chase their lifelong dream of attaining professional recruitment. Told in moments of adolescence, the film follows the greatest challenges for these four young men, as they chase their dreams while trying to grow up.
In no time, they’re faced with the harsh reality that just maybe, football isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. As much as their hefty attributes and builds serve as their greatest advantages, these boys’ cultural and familial obligations become both their greatest motivations and, possibly, their downfall. Filmed over the span of four years, first time filmmakers Tony Vainuku and Erika Cohn chronicle the NFL hopefuls as they navigate the pressure to balance dreams and family to win a golden ticket out of gang violence and poverty.

Spa Night (2016) Written and directed by Andrew Ahn
In his directorial debut, Andrew Ahn perfectly captures a specific corner of Los Angeles’ Koreatown. Spa Night’s focus is David, a closeted Korean American teenager who takes a job at a Korean spa to help his struggling family, and then discovers an underground world of gay sex. You may recognize Joe Seo as the goofy bully in the Netflix hit show Cobra Kai, but it’s Spa Night where you can see him truly shine—he won Sundance’s US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Performance.
Seo delivers a powerfully restrained performance, exploring the burden of hiding your true self from your family. Spa Night is more than a coming out story, it’s also about the broken American dream that so many immigrants experience. Ahn’s direction is finely tuned, honing in on the specificity of Koreatown. It is an acutely queer story of second-gen Asian Americans, where coming out is never really about just you, but also your family.
Streaming on Kanopy, and for rent on various VOD platforms.

Punching at the Sun (2006) Directed by Tanuj Chopra, written by Tanuj Chopra and Hart Eddy
Mameet is young, angry and has always lived in the shadow of his basketball-legend brother, Sanjay. When Sanjay is suddenly killed during a robbery at the family store, Mameet spirals and takes his anger out on anyone and everyone. Coping with loss at a young age is hard enough, but Punching at the Sun mixes in the specific anxieties of being a South-Asian man amidst the backdrop of post-9/11 America. In doing so, the film addresses the difficulty of juggling teenage angst and immigrant identity—Mameet is not afforded the option to express his anger and grief.
Cathartic and emotionally validating, this is a simple yet nuanced slice-of-life story that conveys the heaviness of growing up with the weight of the world on our shoulders. In Mameet’s case, thank goodness, he ultimately shares some of that burden with his comical friends and knit-tight family.
Available to rent on Vimeo.

Meet the Patels (2014) Directed by Ravi Patel and Geeta Patel, written by Ravi Patel, Matthew Hamachek, Billy McMillin, and Geeta Patel
In the romantic documentary Meet the Patels, Ravi Patel is a dutiful first-gen son whose parents are continually nagging him to marry a nice Indian girl. With Ravi's sister Geeta Patel co-directing and co-writing, and his parents in the frame, his film (and true-life story) are indeed a family affair. What starts as his journey to find a wife to make his family happy becomes an enlightening intro to Indian culture and modern love—think dating apps, weddings and a Patel Matrimonial Convention (gotta see it to believe).
Humorous as it is outrageously charming, Meet the Patels ultimately shows the struggles and cultural expectations most immigrant offspring face, on top of the million other obstacles of trying to find your one and only true love in this mad, mad world.
Streaming on various platforms.

May I please request an info dump about an OC of your choice? Ngl I’m super intrigued by the things I see you posting and I’m the nosy gay who wants to know moooooore 😁
Look what you’ve done, you’ve made me ramble 😂😂 were you aware when you sent this that you’d set off a 1,200 word monster of a post??  The only thing I considered but decided to leave out was gathering the links to the stories involving these characters that I have already posted (though if anyone is interested in that, I will absolutely do it, I don’t have a proper master post for these guys 👀)
But oh my god, I’ve never had someone request an info dump before, I don’t even know where to start! Well, I will fully admit it’s not a super developed world that these characters are in, I haven’t determined any specific overarching story that they all fit together in, I basically just made a little family who have made it good in not completely legal means who occasionally get caught up in fights with their antagonist duo who just won’t leave them alone.
(The rest is going under a read more cause it’s a lot haha)
Tyr is my first character, as in like. He was one of the first characters I wrote with when I was like ten, but he has changed a lot since then, his name, his appearance, even his background, basically everything about him except for his ability has changed. Maybe I should have just made Tyr a new character and kept the original one as is, but he just evolved so gradually and even if he’s nothing like he was almost (god, fml) 20 years ago, I still know it’s the same guy, so it doesn’t feel right to try to have both iterations as two separate characters coexisting in the same world. Maybe I’ll recycle bits of his past that aren’t relevant anymore and tack them onto another character, but I haven’t done any of that yet.
As he is now, Tyr is a black man with his long hair done in box braids that fall past his shoulders, 5’6”, and about 28 years old, with a heavy British accent. He’s protective of his friends and isn’t afraid to fight for any of them, no matter how short of time he’s known them, as long as they’ve given him reason to trust them. His ability is the power to manifest and control flames, which he doesn’t do often but is very adept at controlling it.
Brennan is another character in the group, I came up with him about five or so years ago and he hasn’t gone through nearly as many changes as Tyr, but his name did change a couple years ago and I pinned down a couple other details around that time. Brennan is a pretty big human being at 6’5”, he towers almost a foot taller than Tyr with broad shoulders. In every way he throws a very intimidating silhouette, built like a rock and hard to knock over, but if one were to somehow pick him off the ground they would find him to be strangely lightweight.
And that is do to his ability, two huge black wings that he’s had since he was very young. Though he is a large person, his bones did not develop the same way an average humans would so that his wings can lift him. They are strong enough to carry him, he is a very skilled flyer with them, but they’re not strong enough to carry another person for very long, though he has managed to catch someone to slow their fall and at least get a little further away from danger. (I think I wrote this incident out but not sure if I ever finished it enough to post, but maybe I shall)
Brennan is white but tanned, short light brown hair and light blue eyes, 30, and uses he/him and they/them pronouns, which I do incorporate both of their pronoun options into my writing, it feels natural to me now when I'm writing and I hope it comes across clearly who is being referred to each time. Another important fact about Brennan is that they are non-verbal, they used to speak as a child but due to circumstances in their childhood that they haven’t divulged to the group just yet, they just eventually stopped speaking. Whether or not he is physically capable of saying anything, even he’s not sure, but he and everyone else in the group have grown comfortable enough with ASL that they can all communicate without speaking as well.
And then there’s Kaipo! Or Kai for short, she is black/Polynesian, 26, 5’8” with thick curly afro hair. She has a bubbly personality and is really good with computers. She is unfortunately not the most detailed character I’ve ever made, I regret that I haven’t written as much with her, but in the fluffy musings I have about this little family, she is the one that drags everyone out of their bad moods and gets them to laugh through jokes and pranks. She is very much a meme master. Tyr and Brennan can both be heard groaning often at her terrible puns.
Trevor is a relatively new addition (I just went to look at the first thing I posted with him, it was two years ago already what the heck! It doesn’t feel like that long ago) Trevor is lean, 6’1”, white skinned with black hair and brown eyes. On his own, he is a normal human being, nothing unique about him to speak of aside from the fact that he will very much die early. I have not disclosed why, but he is terminal and would die within a matter of weeks. The only thing keeping him from an early demise is the mutual partnership he has forged with Algamoth, a lesser demon that Trevor unwittingly freed from captivity while saving himself.
Trevor is around 28 years old, while Algamoth is not entirely sure how old he would be considered, but he has been on Earth for upwards of 1,200 years. He is able to exist without Trevor, though not in a very tangible way. Without being in a humans body he is not much more than a cloud or puddle that can fit in the palm of a hand. He is able to heal Trevor’s body, which makes their partnership beneficial to both; Algamoth is protected within Trevor’s body and Trevor gets to keep on living.
I started writing a blurb that would tie them in with the rest of the group, but have not finished it, I need to add it to my to-do list and post it haha
And then finally we have Michael. Everyone seemed to love Michael when I posted the first story that featured him, which that story was the result of a prompt from a Discord server I was on a few years ago. At the time I had no intention to mix him in with everyone else, but I think he would fit in pretty well. As you could probably tell from my ramblings last night, I’m not entirely sure which direction I want to take him, but I do have some thoughts on how to get him from where he is to where I want him to be and it does involve whump, but still pondering if I want that whump to reveal an ability he till now was not aware of. I have a vague idea of what he looks like but it’s not set in stone at all yet.
Other characters that have appeared in my writing are Malichi (Tyr’s boyfriend), Allison (the main antagonist), and Remy (Allison’s right hand). Another character that exists but has only appeared on page once is Promise, who is Kai’s girlfriend. That single story-ish thing with Promise only got one note lmao but tbf it wasn’t a full story, just a song inspired AU.
As of yet I don’t think I have any characters who are definitely straight, they’re all pretty queer in some way. Tyr and Brennan are both ace and panromantic, Kaipo is bisexual, Malichi and Promise are both gay, Algamoth is pansexual. I have not discovered yet what Michael and Trevor’s sexual or romantic orientations are nor pinned down what Allison and Remy are since they in general aren’t super fleshed out, though I have leaned towards them being girlfriends as well, but I’m not 100% convinced on that yet.
AAHHH Wow, ok I didn’t expect for this to get so long, but I hope this was of interest! Typing this out and regathering info of these characters reminded me of a few WiPs that have never seen the light of day that I would like to finish some day, so hopefully this has given me the spark to do that.

You have made me curious. Please tell me about your oc's! What are their names? Why? Are they from a specific fandom or from a world of your own making? What do they look like? What is thier favorite fruit/color/food/drink? You made a spidersona a while back, right? Have you developed them more or have you moved on? (Sorry theese are a lot of questions at once you don't have to awnser all of them if u don't want to lol)
Okay so I have a great many main ocs so I’ll make little intros for them that answer each question lol
also here’s a link to the masterlist that might be more helpful and less rambly lol, it also links to art of the characters if you’re interested:
OC MASTERLIST
First of all, we have Rosalia (Rose) Scarlett Dawn who has healing powers, she (or at least her main design) started out as the spidersona you mentioned, but she evolved beyond even marvel oc territory lol. I draw her the most, she’s the one with red fading into white hair and sectoral heterochromia/ gold eyes, you can probably find her very easily on my art account @sciencelings-arts. Her image is also what I use as the icon for my writing account @sciencelings-writes which was a commission I got done for her last Halloween. She has become a very different character, although I still really vibe with her spidersona origins. She exists in the marvel universe as a SHIELD agent that does her best to use her powers for good but once SHIELD falls she works for Tony Stark and the Avengers as their on-call medical professional as she is kind of the expert in weird shit like injuries and sickness that originate from magic or alien stuff. Her sister Artemis also works for SHIELD as a field agent and does not have powers. Their relationship is kinda complex and depends on the universe that they’re in, like my original series is set in a bunch of different universes as I don’t want to constrict myself with just writing fantasy or sci-fi or whatever. Anyway Rose is a lesbian with underestimated powers and all that kind of shit. She’s fruity, they say an apple a day keeps the doctor away but she is the doctor and she will consume any apple within her eyesight.
Second of all, this one will be shorter, Andromeda Starling, Basically her parents were scientists for hydra and she found out and ran away, resulting in her getting lost in space and gaining shapeshifting powers that evolve from partial shifts like gills and wings to full transformations like turning into a dragon because she wants to. She’s a sapphic asexual and is endgame with Rose, Her image is on my art blog (linked above) and my rarely used OC blog @sciencelings-ocs, After her transformation, her blood turned purple and her eyes turned purple and all her hair turned a cold white. She actively avoids going to earth and is the basic lone wolf type that comes across as mean but it’s mostly due to trauma and mental illnesses. She kicks ass and has no idea how to talk to people. She likes space fruit and actually knows how to cook space food.
Next, we have Adisa Crow AKA Doctor Plague who is Rose’s nemesis, She got her powers from trying to recreate Rose’s powers within her and it going very wrong. Her powers can reverse other character's powers and skills, whether that’s a direct opposite like making a fire-themed character control ice or whether it’s just twisting the power against them, like making Andromeda’s shapeshifting uncontrollable as her power normally relies on her focus and complete control. But her powers come with a price as they are constantly affecting her, giving her hallucinations and manipulating her thoughts and emotions drastically. She wears a plague doctor mask when in full supervillain mode. She and Rose have a full friends to lovers to enemies to friends kind of arc as when she is released of her powers she might be forgivable with a whole lot of therapy. She only drinks Redbull and coffee.
speaking of therapy, next we have Alexandria Iriklitis. She’s a superhuman therapist with a magic voice. She mostly uses her voice to manipulate emotions but it’s powerful enough to levitate objects and break glass, and even bring down buildings and stuff. She has very colorful hair and very solid black geometric tattoos all over her body. She’s not normally a fighter type of character but she does appear as a peacock siren bard in the fantasy au and that comes with having wing arms and a big dramatic peacock tail. She is the only emotionally stable one usually but she’s not perfect and although it takes a lot to rile her up, she can lose her shit and no one should be within fifty miles of her when that happens.
Next, we have Ma’at Ramses who is a necromancer goth mom who adopts death kids that are ostracised from the normal magic organizations. She has a magic sword hilt that shifts into different weapons at will and a magic helmet that resembles an Egyptian pharaoh's crown that gives her extra abilities. She’s constantly in contact with the dead and her mission is to give them peace but more and more keep coming to her for help and no matter how much she works, she is never finished.  She constantly feels the rage from the dead that need to be avenged and it takes tremendous control to not take it out on the people around her. Eventually, she figures out that those feelings are not her own and she can control how much they affect her and she becomes a much less angry person. She’s kinda morally gray as she has no qualms about things like murder of she decides that the person really deserves it. She really hates injustice and doesn’t just sit around for people change and you know, heavily bigoted politicians just disappear sometimes, that’s just how life is.
Next is Diana Schmitt, a mutant who can control the heat of objects (mostly metal and glass) and the molten outcome. She’s heavily scarred on half of her body including her face and she’s missing an arm and a leg that she replaced with layered metal and glass prosthetics. She’s trans and sapphic because I can’t make cishet characters to save my life. She uses her powers to make weapons and tools as she has big blacksmith energy. also, she's six feet tall and super buff. She's the whole gentle giant type and is super friendly. Her scars and limb loss are from a malicious attack with ice which causes her to hate any kind of cold and even makes ice a trauma trigger for her. She hates the winter and tries her best to avoid cold places. She is immune to incredibly high heat and has literally slept inside of a volcano with a magma blanket. cozy.
Lastly (I think) we have Guinevere (Gwen) Kaimana. She’s an actual mermaid. and a Pirate. She can control the sea and temporarily turn her tail into a skirt over fishnet tights covering human legs. When out of the water she has to take special care to be very hydrated. She can faint if lacking enough water in her body.  She has Polynesian tattoos on her arm and torso that glow white in the dark but only when it’s very dark like when she’s very deep in the ocean. She wields dual scimitars (those curved pirate swords) and is bisexual. She has a very unearthly energy and is basically a myth to the people on land, but on the seas, she’s known as the Queen of the Seas and is feared by the people who don’t know her. She has big found family energy with her crew and mostly just focuses on saving sea life and causing trouble for the us military because she thinks it's funny. They tend to overreact and try to find her and “bring her to justice” but they can never find her, no matter how much they search. Before becoming a pirate she had spent several unaging decades in isolation in the ocean before she was willing to associate with people again. Sometimes she gets confused by current events and technology when she visits the land but she hates showing it.
