just had a bizarre dipnpip dream where dan uploaded a video of him proposing to phil but dan filmed the entire thing himself (like, holding the camera) so the video was from his perspective and the camera was WAY too close to phil’s face the entire time?? the video was called “how to impress people with only 3 coins” and for some reason his big proposal speech involved him throwing 3 different american pennies off a dock? then the next day phil uploaded a scripted funny skit video where their characters were husbands so the phandom was having Major Discourse over if dans video was a skit too because it was Such A Bad Proposal and dipnpip had to be like “yall plz we were serious”

Complaining abt Suicide Squad yet again but the fact that they have Waller exposing the alien community to space racist attacks and talking abt how she got to her position through deceit and being a terrible person and stuff is just. Ahsfiwueh JUST SAY YOU DONT KNOW WALLER.

Anyways literally the 3rd mission of the Squad ever (and the first framed as smth Waller picked and not orders from above) was the Squad discrediting and stopping a rogue vigilante who was only arresting POC and funneling white people into white supremacy groups (of which he was the most prominent member) in SUICIDE SQUAD #4. and it's explicitly framed as this mission being personal for Waller that she's hiding from the government bc its illegal like. Guys. Please why are we having her incite (space bc comics) racist attacks now

Also the whole "Amanda got her position through deceit and being a terrible person" NO. she KEPT her position through being shitty and playing complicated political games!!! She wasn't always that way like there is a difference and it is IMPORTANT ppl PLEASEEEE. In Secret Origins #14 we learn Amanda's backstory and she used to be a normal, caring person! Like even after she entered into working in government and politics she wasn't automatically morally bankrupt like please people. She was originally given control of the Squad by Reagan (*sigh* 80s comics...) to distract and get rid of her because she was so successful at pushing progressive social policy in Congress. Acting like she's this static pillar of evil is such a waste of her character and so fucking uninteresting and disrespectful to her arc it drives me MAD.

Like I am NOT saying Waller is all sunshine and rainbows, she fucking SUCKS (said w love <3) but like there's a human being there. It's a progression, she has a character arc like please, DC, please!!! They've fucked up Waller so bad and made her so opaque and uninteresting she can't even be the protagonist of her own story for fucks sake!

Like I don't know how many times I have to scream it until DC hears me or remembers but WALLER IS THE MAIN CHARACTER OF SUICIDE SQUAD. ITS HER BOOK. yet right now she's a cutout to be used as the villain wherever the writers please. Even in her book we get none of her perspective really displayed, no exploration of her thoughts with any kind of understanding of the role she traditionally has played and was made to play in the story.

Ok I've already gone into in game AkiAn but I'm the AkiKoha guy in a server so I'm going into in game AkiKoha

In the main story, Akito isn't happy An chose Kohane to be her singing partner. She's a rookie, has no clue at all about singing or RAD Weekend (Toya at least had a musical background). Plus, An is Ken's daughter. You know, the guy he idolizes? Also Akito and An hold some respect for each other as they share the same dream. For her to spend so long waiting for the right partner and to then choose someone with no tie to music at all, Akito most definitely felt conflicted about it.

However, there's the fact Kohane at the beginning of the main story is in a fairly similar position to Akito when he first ended up on Vivid Street.

Kohane at the beginning didn't have a dream or ambition, she wasn't like Minori who tried again and again in idol auditions, she wasn't like An who she saw singing on the side of the street with so much passion.

Compare that to the younger Akito we see in Summer Festival, he just quit soccer because he thought he wouldn't be able to bring the same level of devotion to it. When Ena takes him to see the concert he decides to try again with music. When he watches RAD Weekend he turns to street music in particular. The two shared a similar sense of not being able to fully commit themselves to a specific thing.

Not to mention that a lot of Vivid Bad Squad's story links back to resolve. That's what Akito was testing in the main story, even if he doesn't go about it the best way, and it's what Kohane realised as well. She doesn't even hold it against him at the end, when Akito and Toya have their conflict she goes out of her way to speak to both of them. (And forgive me because it's been a while, but if I remember correctly An says Kohane doesn't need to do so herself.)

Kohane is thankful to Akito for helping her come to terms with committing to street music. When the main story ends and Vivid Bad Squad is formed, Akito is able to recognise that she does have the resolve. We don't get as much for them in the event stories but I do want to point out Kick It Up A Notch, where Akito backs Kohane up on letting her open for them at Crawl Green. That's significant because Find A Way Out establishes how important the Crawl Green event is to Akito, it's his chance of redemption at the place he once made a fool of himself at. He trusts Kohane enough to open for such a significant event for him.

AkiKoha is about acknowledgement and trust. They literally have a kizuna rank titled "Acknowledging Your Resolve". Akito acknowledged Kohane could commit to surpassing RAD Weekend, Kohane trusted his judgement to change so she could. Kohane acknowledged how important Crawl Green would be to him, Akito trusted her to open for them.

I wish that was acknowledged (haha) more. Both in a platonic and romantic sense.

Major Spoiler Warning for The Sandman comics

I just finished reading The Kindly Ones and I went online and saw some posts about Bodyguard/Knight!Hob and I can't get the idea outta my head

What if Hob does become a knight for Dream during The Kindly Ones?

Major Spoilers under the cut

So, in The Kindly Ones, Morpheus meets up with Hob outside a graveyard where Hob mourns a lover, they go to a pub and then he makes to leaves Hob to which Hob says he can smell the scent of death on him and warns him to be careful and lets Morpheus go. All that is canon, all that happened.

but what if he doesn't let Morpheus go? what if he goes 'fuck it something IS happening and something IS wrong, I'm coming with you, let me help you, this is what friends DO'

Why? To watch out for him because he is worried out of his mind for his friend. His friend that just admitted they were actually friends five years ago after knowing each other for centuries. They didn't get that much time. There's no way Hob is just letting this slide, just letting him go when something is wrong, he is nothing if not loyal and stubborn. He manages to convince Morpheus to let him be his Knight (maybe morpheus knows his time will run out soon and he wouldn't mind spending more time with Hob, he won't say that of course)

After that, almost everything that happens in canon still happens:

the kindly ones still attack the dreaming, Hob helps defend and protect those of the dreaming with the skills he acquired over the centuries being a mercenary, a bandit, a soldier etc

He does it a bit recklessly, a bit desperately, as he is the only one they cannot actually kill permanantly even if Dream is dead (unlike everyone else in the dreaming), he saves some of them, but he cannot save all of them. He is only a man. Hob then retreats to the castle with the others (lucien[ne], matthew, corianthian etc) to watch over Daniel.

Morpheus leaves to make his final stand (would he have allowed Hob to follow the way he allowed matthew?) Hob asks him to reconsider, to find a different way, they can figure a way out of this, they can save him and the dreaming, damn it. Morpheus doesn't. He still leaves.

Death arrives. She isn't here for Hob, she isn't here for Daniel. Who else?

In the end, the tragedy is that nothing Hob did would have mattered, nothing changes:

the Dreaming residents that have "died" would still have resurrected with or without Hob to defend them as their Knight.

Morpheus would still have taken Death's hand with or without Hob pleading him not to.

Daniel Hall would still become the new Dream with or without Hob.

Hob would still lose Morpheus.

Nothing Hob does changes the Ending.

Nothing Changes: The Ending is the same.

But.

In Morpheus's last few moments, he had love. He had the love of his subjects, of his creations, of his friends, of his family. He could see it in the way they look at him, the way Hob tries to hold the kindly ones back in defence of him. He could hear it in the way they spoke to him, argued with him, begged him, the way Hob stubbornly wouldn't take no for an answer. He could feel it rolling off them in waves. He could feel it rolling off Hob, in desperation.

The Ending doesn't change. Cannot change.

Yet, Hob being there for him still mattered.

He was loved.

Okay, I just had a weird dream.

I was watching this little girl, babysitting for free, and my girlfriend was there with me

My dog, Pepe, who's this weirdly big black chiuaua, and the little girl's dog which was a beagle mix, and I kept talking to the girl and my girlfriend and I'd look down and the dogs were kind of gnawing on my pinkies (one pinky per dog)

I remember lifting my hand to show my girlfriend and the dog was holding on so well that I could completely lift my hand without it falling off.

I took them off my hand and continued talking to the little girl who was on a top bunk and then I looked down and the dogs were chewing on my pinkies again.

And it kept happening, I'd take my hands away and they'd be on my pinky fingers when I looked down.

I wasn't distressed or anything, I was calm, I wasn't upset, I was actually even endeared! I'd just take my hand away and move on.

So, now that I've said all that, dream side of tumblr what the fuck does that mean?

Had a dream today that I made a tumblr post talking about working on a WIP that had roughly 4k words and someone just reblogged it with "#read later #4k words" and I just stared at it and thought "But you don't know anything about it?? You don't even know that you're not in the fandom?? Also it's not going to stay at 4k words??? Why would you tag me talking about a WIP that'll probably still take weeks to finish with read later??"

something i do not think i've mentioned yet is that dream/alt!zakri is like... his own character. he's zakri but not enough to be fully the same. whether or not the version of him seen in the dream sequence comic is actually real is up to interpretation but he is, distinctly, his own guy. they're different sides of the same coin, yes, but they're still different sides

if he is real to whatever extent, i figure he's probably completely unconscious the majority of the time and gets woken up once every however long to be present in some variety of weird dream sequence. most of the time they're mostly just bits and pieces of memory from his own timeline, in which he's really not aware of what's happening, but rarely you'll get something similar to the dream sequence comic where he's more aware of the situation. the dreams involving him are always strangely calm and comfortable, no matter what is happening. dreams involving alt!zakri seem to affect main timeline zakri the worst when he wakes up

dunno if this is worded in a way that makes sense. it's just a few thoughts. anyway some design notes include he has a different outfit (doesn't have zakri's massive coat, prefers short sleeves), has shorter hair and a bit of a different haircut, and his face is definitely different somehow - generally seen as entirely faceless in dream sequences, though

maybe better phrased that what makes a piece of media "good" and accessible for the majority of people in this time/place/culture is also what makes it "bad" / inaccessible for others--including basic things like color theory, a comprehensible story structure, whatever. Some people are good at making art that is "bad" by this standard, and not even to purposefully break the rules or subvert expectations. but by making something inaccessible to most people, it can be accessible to the few who really need it.

fun fact about indira varma! she and james mcavoy at one point swapped book recommendations; he tried to get her to read LOTR, iirc, and she convinced him to read His Dark Materials, which eventually led to him talking about it with a friend of his who worked the production side of the HDM TV series and who eventually called him last-second when their original asriel had to drop bc they already knew that james knew the character and loved the books. they started filming his scenes less than a week later.
