so how do you interpret the significance of the themes in ena overall. like potential messaging. and how does dream bbq interact with the themes established in the youtube series.

i’ve seen people say they interpret it as anything from commentary on immigration (particularly how immigrants are treated poorly) to like, internet culture, or autism, or whatever really. i noticed a lot of people relate their own experiences to it. it’s cool how many different interpretations people get out of it (even if folks get a little in the weeds about the symbolism sometimes, and personally i’m not as focused on potential symbolism as the worldbuilding in itself)

WELL!! That is of course such a good and cool question!! to be honest, i hope i can answer it sufficiently, since i've spent the most time thinking about Specific things in dbbq so far as opposed to the bigger and greater picture—But here's the thoughts i have about all that at present!

I guess, for one, i think interpreting the series to be commentaries on immigration, internet culture, and/or neurodivergence and the like are all completely fair and valid. I don't have much to say about those interpretations at the moment myself, but still, I think they're all interesting in their own right! I also agree 100% that it's super cool how many interpretations people have; even if i. Don't vibe with all of them LOL, i genuinely really like how much thought it inspires!

Right now, i can't help but interpret the game as a commentary on unhealthy work/life balances and abusive work dynamics. Which feels like the most obvious interpretation possible but... still LOL.

Ena's literal only moods are "smooth talking salesperson obsessed with work" and "pissed at everyone because of her stupid job she doesn't even like". There's her line where she goes "Oh, I am no longer the boss of myself" with extreme nonchalance, Not to mention she goes to The Club one single time and has a breakdown and starts like. turning into branches or something ("I need to get back to my deplorable job... I can't afford another moment of joy.." LIKE GIRL...).

We don't even know what her job... Is? like obviously she's a salesperson but, What is she supposed to be selling? and i know they have the slot machines and everything, but what does her Business even Do? The fact that none of this is clear IS amusing, but i also feel like it represents how her job, ultimately, is Not of importance. Nothing she's doing is of true value to herself, nor to others, but she commits her entire life to her shitty job anyway, leaving no room to even consider breaks or ANY life Outside of work ("any good business should be open all hours" ...).

Not to mention how. you know. Everybody hates her 😭 WHICH IS A WHOLE CAN OF WORMS ON ITS OWN, But i feel it also fits into this interpretation; She, for whatever reason, commits her life to work, the thing you're Supposed to do to be a valuable member of society, so to say, yet it gains her no respect, no benefits, seemingly nothing good at all. Maybe she works so hard to try to gain the respect of others, even though, just like how our capitalistic workplaces will chew you up and spit you back out, and no matter how hard you work, those people will never truly care about you.

However, the references to violence in regards to Ena are also important, i think, with the "I'm not doing ANYTHING!" scene, and the fact that the game trailer shows two accounts of Ena wielding a gun, and also.. A shot of Ena as an armless crumbling green zombie in the same desolate landscape full of raining bullets.

I'm unsure where to go with that as of right now—mostly because I don't think the game would draw parallels between Specific real life events, I'd still want to ensure i'm being respectful if i am to start talking about something like war/soldier theming. Still, i think this has to be significant, there's two separate depictions of Ena wielding a gun in the game's trailer, and I truly don't know how to else you're meant to interpret the scenes of distressed and desolate Enas around giant knives and raining bullets LOL

just had a bizarre dipnpip dream where dan uploaded a video of him proposing to phil but dan filmed the entire thing himself (like, holding the camera) so the video was from his perspective and the camera was WAY too close to phil’s face the entire time?? the video was called “how to impress people with only 3 coins” and for some reason his big proposal speech involved him throwing 3 different american pennies off a dock? then the next day phil uploaded a scripted funny skit video where their characters were husbands so the phandom was having Major Discourse over if dans video was a skit too because it was Such A Bad Proposal and dipnpip had to be like “yall plz we were serious”

Complaining abt Suicide Squad yet again but the fact that they have Waller exposing the alien community to space racist attacks and talking abt how she got to her position through deceit and being a terrible person and stuff is just. Ahsfiwueh JUST SAY YOU DONT KNOW WALLER.

Anyways literally the 3rd mission of the Squad ever (and the first framed as smth Waller picked and not orders from above) was the Squad discrediting and stopping a rogue vigilante who was only arresting POC and funneling white people into white supremacy groups (of which he was the most prominent member) in SUICIDE SQUAD #4. and it's explicitly framed as this mission being personal for Waller that she's hiding from the government bc its illegal like. Guys. Please why are we having her incite (space bc comics) racist attacks now

Also the whole "Amanda got her position through deceit and being a terrible person" NO. she KEPT her position through being shitty and playing complicated political games!!! She wasn't always that way like there is a difference and it is IMPORTANT ppl PLEASEEEE. In Secret Origins #14 we learn Amanda's backstory and she used to be a normal, caring person! Like even after she entered into working in government and politics she wasn't automatically morally bankrupt like please people. She was originally given control of the Squad by Reagan (*sigh* 80s comics...) to distract and get rid of her because she was so successful at pushing progressive social policy in Congress. Acting like she's this static pillar of evil is such a waste of her character and so fucking uninteresting and disrespectful to her arc it drives me MAD.

Like I am NOT saying Waller is all sunshine and rainbows, she fucking SUCKS (said w love <3) but like there's a human being there. It's a progression, she has a character arc like please, DC, please!!! They've fucked up Waller so bad and made her so opaque and uninteresting she can't even be the protagonist of her own story for fucks sake!

Like I don't know how many times I have to scream it until DC hears me or remembers but WALLER IS THE MAIN CHARACTER OF SUICIDE SQUAD. ITS HER BOOK. yet right now she's a cutout to be used as the villain wherever the writers please. Even in her book we get none of her perspective really displayed, no exploration of her thoughts with any kind of understanding of the role she traditionally has played and was made to play in the story.

they talk abt the use of the r slur, he apologizes and says he just shouldn’t have done it at all. talks about his impulsivity and says that he has gotten better at it over the years, but still has work to do on it

talking about using tubbos clips first before anything, dream says it makes sense bc “chronological order” with tommy + his friends joking about grooming and pedo stuff with dream. says he wants that first to get it out of the way. says he gets what it feels like from tubbos, and is asking TUBBO what HE recommends. tubbo is then giving his advice saying he should’ve included clips of tommy and co making the jokes before using clips of tubbo.

taking about chronological order, asking why dream didn’t mention his psycho stream then. he said “that’s a good question.” dream says it’s because the video was condensing what he said in the stream and saying it better more cohesively. says it didn’t feel right to mention the stream.

tubbo brings up dream asking about context for misogyny. dream says tommy separated them in the video, and that it wasn’t the same point. tubbo says that’s a weird assumption to make, and describing why catibugz situation was exactly what tommy was referencing. dream is like “what about the background stuff?” and tubbo brings up dream calling two women whores.

dream says he has no idea what ludwig is talking about, or who at all came up to ludwig. dream is talking about his giant reply (reply has been copy and pasted into a reddit post), says robbo is lying about dream getting slapped for calling a women a whore, that that never happened. said everything blowed into proportion, and that ludwig wasn’t comfortable talking about the situation in more detail. dream (correctly) says it’s hard to navigate a situation like this, saying when he doesn’t know it’s about and that he can’t communicate with the person themself.

tubbo asks why two different people with two different accounts, would say that. dream says robbos occurred during the nicholas cantù(gumball VA) situation, and entirely a lie of a situation. says the situation with robbo should be “thrown out” partly because he sided with nicholas cantù during the whole situation. dream says he hasn’t used the word sense then. says it’s hard to navigate bc he doesn’t think he would ever be in that situation or do that, but he trusts ludwig. dream says he’s going “i’m so sorry” when in the message he showed, he did not apologize once. says all this happened during the peak of his allegations. says it’s hard bc he can’t prove that it is true and/or can’t even apologize if it was true.

tubbo brings up catibugz again. dream says he’ll simply, and that tommy has provided no context, tubbo mentions again catibugz. dream says again that those were two different parts of the video. that because tommy separated the sentence, it is not the context that he meant for calling his friends sexist. asks tubbo for clarity on the catibugz situation. tubbo says it’s not unreasonable to assume that negative reactions to cati were from dreams and george’s community, dream neglects an answer. tubbo says that it’s partly that he didn’t do anything in the situation. dream says he did go live and did talk about it a lot.

dream says it wasn’t brought up in the video bc he wanted to address the more potent point about them being sexist behind the scenes. dream says the situation wasnt hidden or run from, says it opens old wounds. says it feels not needed bc it wasn’t a him and tommy thing, and that’s why he didn’t include it in his video. dream pulls up tommy’s video to directly quote what tommy said abt calling him and his friends sexist.

dream is mad about lack of context, and just rambles and rambles holy shit guys my head hurts. tubbo mentions old wounds point dream said and how thats “weird” but i would use hypocritical. dream said it’s different bc it doesn’t directly involve him? i guess? i’m kind of confused.

dream is talking SO much that tubbo keeps forgetting. tubbo brings up how the situation DOES involve him, dream is arguing that his personal feelings and involvement don’t really matter in the context bc he is less affected by the other parties in the conversation. tubbo corrects, it’s weird that dreams reasoning is that he is not involved, dream says yes and no. he’s saying a lot of stuff. dream asks tubbo if his involvement is sexist, tubbo says it’s difficult. tubbo says his initial involvement feels weird.

tubbo talks about community, says that dreams is somewhat toxic, and getting involved with his giant toxic community is a weird thing to do. dream says he was very open and honest with the entire situation.

i can’t do this as an english major as someone who is paying thousands to study the usage of words? i can’t summarize this anymore.

I've been thinking of how the Endless siblings' duties and realms could overlap with each others.

Food for thought:

Dream and Death: People that die in their sleep. Dream leads their subconsciousness through his realm while waiting for his sister to find them. When she does, she guides the dreamer away, and Lucienne moves their books to the archives.

Death and Desire: Serial killers. Desire and Death meeting in blood-stained back alleys like a couple after a one night stand. (I picture this happened at least once or twice between Desire and Destruction when he was around, too?)

Death and Destruction: War. They follow after one another so closely that it's unfathomable. They've spent millennia huddled beside one another on scorched earth with shrapnel flying overhead. Inevitably, their paths will always intersect.

Dream and Desire or Despair: Are you joking? So many dreams. Wet dreams of both kinds: one is tears, the other is... Well, you know. What are dreams and nightmares if not the desires and dread of humanity, after all? (On that note, Delirium and Dream have to be quite familiar with one another's realms, don't they?)

Dream and Destiny: Prophetic dreams, duh. People have been misinterpreting the connection between these two for eons when, in reality, Destiny rarely permitted prophesy to creep into his brother's realm. On occasion, however, the pair will meet: a portion of the Dreaming fading into a maze or the Garden of Forking Ways suddenly blurring a right turn into Fiddler's Green.

Delirium and Despair: So many drug-induced stupors, so many drunken nights where alcohol aggravated an emotional wound. Delirium and Despair would practically dance around one another- Okay, so only Delirium is dancing, but still. And for those who are desperate for release from their despair and seek it out by ruining themselves, I think Desire enjoys occasionally strolling in on their sisters' meetings and lounging with them for awhile.

Death and Destiny: They are the two absolutes. Both of them are the only true certainties in the universe. They are what will happen no matter what. Destiny will proceed- even if it changes- and everything will die. These two will always overlap with one another more than everyone else, I think, even if they don't speak of it.

And those are just the ones I thought of for now. The possibilities are (teehee) endless.

Im pretty sure I had a lucid dream the other night, but I made it scary before I realised it was a lucid dream and the anxiety from it woke me up 😭😭😭 I literally remember having the thought, purposefully thinking/saying it in my head; "haha wouldn't it be funny if someone appeared out of nowhere trying to sell me something in this desolate area/ place where there's no other entrance aside from where I'm looking??" Abd then a fucker appeared next to me trying to sell me a car. And it scared me shitless to the point I woke up.

i just woke up from a dream that i was playing mariokart with steve martin. he and martin short were a couple (which doesn't not make sense?) and martin kept bringing him water and towels and hyping him up like he was in a boxing match or something. then he got up and made us all hot chocolate and when steve lost he blamed the controller 🤷‍♀️😭

Okay, I just had a weird dream.

I was watching this little girl, babysitting for free, and my girlfriend was there with me

My dog, Pepe, who's this weirdly big black chiuaua, and the little girl's dog which was a beagle mix, and I kept talking to the girl and my girlfriend and I'd look down and the dogs were kind of gnawing on my pinkies (one pinky per dog)

I remember lifting my hand to show my girlfriend and the dog was holding on so well that I could completely lift my hand without it falling off.

I took them off my hand and continued talking to the little girl who was on a top bunk and then I looked down and the dogs were chewing on my pinkies again.

And it kept happening, I'd take my hands away and they'd be on my pinky fingers when I looked down.

I wasn't distressed or anything, I was calm, I wasn't upset, I was actually even endeared! I'd just take my hand away and move on.

So, now that I've said all that, dream side of tumblr what the fuck does that mean?

Had a dream today that I made a tumblr post talking about working on a WIP that had roughly 4k words and someone just reblogged it with "#read later #4k words" and I just stared at it and thought "But you don't know anything about it?? You don't even know that you're not in the fandom?? Also it's not going to stay at 4k words??? Why would you tag me talking about a WIP that'll probably still take weeks to finish with read later??"

something i do not think i've mentioned yet is that dream/alt!zakri is like... his own character. he's zakri but not enough to be fully the same. whether or not the version of him seen in the dream sequence comic is actually real is up to interpretation but he is, distinctly, his own guy. they're different sides of the same coin, yes, but they're still different sides

if he is real to whatever extent, i figure he's probably completely unconscious the majority of the time and gets woken up once every however long to be present in some variety of weird dream sequence. most of the time they're mostly just bits and pieces of memory from his own timeline, in which he's really not aware of what's happening, but rarely you'll get something similar to the dream sequence comic where he's more aware of the situation. the dreams involving him are always strangely calm and comfortable, no matter what is happening. dreams involving alt!zakri seem to affect main timeline zakri the worst when he wakes up

dunno if this is worded in a way that makes sense. it's just a few thoughts. anyway some design notes include he has a different outfit (doesn't have zakri's massive coat, prefers short sleeves), has shorter hair and a bit of a different haircut, and his face is definitely different somehow - generally seen as entirely faceless in dream sequences, though
