Snape is uncomfortable with physical touch and always shies away from it...except when it comes to Charity Burbage, her favourite Hufflepuff.

I think the wider gravity falls fandom would benefit from realizing that alex hirsch is not some kind of genius and is rather just some guy who loves trolling people and is very clearly flying by the seat of his pants at all times on every creative decision he makes
#seeing a lot of people saying that the writing in the book of bill isn't consistent with the writing in journal 3#and that maybe this means the journal pages in tbob are made up by bill or something#which. doesn't make sense at all to me because the pages for the most part still make bill look bad but ok#but I seriously don't think there's an in-universe reason. you think alex hirsch reread his own book for narrative consistency??#alex hirsch? “I can't talk about the baby” alex hirsch? that alex hirsch?#alex “it was some time in the 60's or 70's” hirsch. ok#listen it's great to believe that writers always have a plan and always keep narrative consistency but it's simply not true.#bro is fucking around and he does NOT care if everything he writes aligns with established canon trust me#gravity falls

I simply do not trust anyone who hates one of the main four vampires. not “I prefer these two over these two” but hitting you with “actually the others secretly hate him and don’t want to make out with him and wish he’d go away” sorry but no. they’re a package deal. “they can’t do polyamory” man they can’t do monogamy! not expecting them to negotiate or have reasonable boundaries but listen they are all drinking each other’s blood. they are all fucking in all possible variations at some point. cherish them all or don’t even bother.
#also like 50% of the time it’s just racism but we can touch on that later#please they’re just all obsessed with each other it’s so funny#thought we’d figured it out by now that if they try do ‘monogamous pairing who isolate themselves’ it goes to hell immediately#and they can’t ’just be friends’. Daniel has been begging for Louis since the 70’s#Armand and Lestat want to make the other one their puppet#Louis is pissed off at Armand rn but they’re basically just tumblr divorced. hate me love me give me back my shirt then take it off me yk?#get them alone at some point and they’ll be drinking blood out of fancy glasses and making out under stolen art. they’ll be fine.#Lestat wants to fuck Daniel just to know what the fuss is about and vice versa. fuckbuddies who are fond and irritated and oddly honest#and obviously we know what’s going on with lestat/louis and armand/daniel#they’re probably not going to live in a big castle in France (please it’s SO funny to me as a concept)#but they all love each other and want to stay in each other’s lives#they’re immortal. their friends are their lovers are their soulmates are their enemies. the four of them match nicely#iwtv#interview with the vampire#didn’t include claudia because if you hate claudia we should shoot you <3

I think that the 2010's media landscape of Buzzfeed articles about plotholes in disney movies, Cinemasins critiques, and Watchmojo Top Ten scenes in movies that make no sense has truely ruined a lot of media. People are afraid that their work will be torn down if they dare leave a single thing up in the air, if they dare ask their audience to suspend their disbelief.
All too often nowadays I see stories (especially fantasy), take the time to explain how every small aspect of the world works and how it all logically makes sense. The constant time stopped to explain why an event happened, how this object works, or why this is important to the characters. It's just really not needed and it honestly makes a lot of stories worse.
I am of the opinion that the best stories truly just drop you into their world and explain nothing. They just take you through the story of this world and you just have to accept it and continue on. "When he became king, the land became barren." I don't want the story to stop and explain why this is, or how it happened, I want us to move on so we can just assume that the king has such rancid vibes that everything died.
#simon says#i watched the Last Unicorn again recently and it fucking slaps#and I noticed a huge part of why it slapped is because it doesn't explain shit#same with a lot of other fantasy things from the 70's and 80's I've noticed#and even older stories all the way back to fairy tales and fables#they just tell you something and move on#and it works!#a lot of the time it feels far too hand-holdy or immersion breaking for the characters to stop and explain something for the audience#like these characters would not take the time to explain the aspects of their world in detail to other people who live in this world#this is clearly for the audience only and so that they can feel more satisfied with an answer#but it fucking sucks!!#it is bad writing!!#to presume your audience has no suspension of disbelief so you stop everything to explain how the world works for them alone is bad!#it makes the story feel awkward because it feels out of character for the people of the world to talk like that and it feels insulting tbh#like you really think the audience's ability to pick up details of the world from dialog and onscreen (or page) information is that poor??#and to some extent it is#lord knows we are having a serious media literacy and general literacy issue in the United States#but it's honestly just bad writing and it bugs me so much. my number 1 pet peeve in fantasy is overexplaining especially when it doesn't fit#like just fucking tell me that there's a magical world on the other side of this wall in a village and move on#i can just accept this fact#imagine if the Dark Crystal took the time to explain every aspect of the world#that movie is already jam packed with random story and world bits that you just have to accept and move on from#now imagine if they took a solid 2 minutes to explain what the fuck Fizzgig is.#i think leaving it at 'he's a friendly monster and Kira's friend!' is the perfect place to leave it at#we do not need a full explanation on Fizzgig's species and behavior and why he's friendly unlike other monsters#he's a friendly monster and he's Kira's friend! that's all we need to know! we got a dark crystal to put back together!!!

why beatles why now
I'm exactly 3 weeks out today from incidentally pressing play on Peter Jackson's Beatles LOTR one ramblin' night and watching for maybe half an hour tops before before being so flooded. Flooded with the memories that in fact I knew every Beatles song back in the day--my first musical love as a teenager that I had just wandered off eventually from and forgotten. Flooded with the flash realization that every notion I'd had of the band AND their songs back then was highly restricted by my youth but also by the simplistic band mythologizing and lack of direct media of the 90's.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but surely I can't be the only one with this mind melting experience. How did you get here, blown away by the Beatles in year 2024?
#the beatles#get back#beatles lotr#gonna also tag#mclennon#because peter jackson so edits for that c'mon#it is ridiculous#my entire car driving time which is unfortunately lengthy is now the passionate wailing of 70's Macca#the 90s anti-mccartney propaganda was so strong i include the previous tag just because my teenage self would have never even THOUGHT#I would literally angsty teenage cry over john lennon#which he does deserve some of#but we can finally look back now and see how over the top and terrifyingly effective the yoko/yokolennon estate propaganda was#especially in terrorizing paul mccartney!#annnywayyy there's a post in tags for ya

Finally getting around to reading recommended reading for Garth and I forgot how bad sidekicks could get the “treat them like Robin” in the 60’s and 70’s and the “make a female that is like totally into him who he doesn’t return affection for and the “everyone is horny, it’s the 90’s baby!,” cause he is getting hit with a lot of these. His personality changed based on the story being told and I really hate it.
#garth of shayeris#aqualad#tempest#tempest dc#I mean I’m not a huge Tula fan but I forgot how bad she is in comics#and I was not expecting Dolphin and Arthur and I feel as though I should have at this point#and Garth had every right to be mad at Arthur for trying to kill him in Death of a Prince but it just seemed to get glossed over#but then in Aquaman 94 they act like Batman and whichever Robin they wanted him to slap silly at the time#and it’s just so weird seeing this hot mess#and then Dolphin feels like she was just added to remind ppl that Arthur and Garth like AFAB characters#but then they realized that was a bad creative decision and gave her some stuff but kind of forgot to make it matter in a meaningful way#and his magical training aging him up just seemed meh to me#you already teased he is the most powerful postcognite#let him use that to learn his magic and that#but I will give Death of a Prince one kudos#could not believe they killed a 5 year old on panel and left him dead in the 70’s just kudos

my contrarian opinion is Swatch is younger than Sp*mton because (digital) spam is older than multicolor graphics
#dib noise#+ other reasons lol but#yes some computers of the time (70's) technically had color but it was more of a tint for the text than anything else#you didn't get readily available technicolor until later#is that contrarian. i stopped tracking popular opinion about this in 2022 because it was killing me#swatch.. late 30's early fourties. the other guy is in his fifties and up#basing that off irl dates though

the fact that the events of spies are forever happens before they even get to the mid 60's kills me. rip to my usual habit of "playlist about the character(s) that i think they would listen to but also fits them". i lean so heavily towards wanting to assign them 70's-80's music
in the meantime i have a jumbled collection of not-time-period-accurate songs i think fit them at various times that i keep forgetting to make into a presentable list of some kind
#sky dot txt#spies are forever#saf#the general Sound of a lot of 70s-80s tracks just vibe with them in my brain. but also im biased towards those 2 decades a lot lol#if i feel up to it i might try to make both an Anything Goes playlist and a time period accurate one#the latter would take some research i don't have as much knowledge for anything before like.. mid 60's

“Deathwatch!” Man-Thing (Vol. 1/1974), #9.
Writer: Steve Gerber; Penciler: Mike Ploog; Inker: Frank Chiaramonte; Colorist: Linda Lessmann; Letterer: John Costanza
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Man-Thing vol. 1#Man-Thing 1974#Man-Thing#Ted Sallis#nothing could have prepared me for reanimated skeletons popping up in this issue#what an absolutely rollicking good time#seeing Man-Thing duke it out with some skeletons#and saving a dog always a plus#+wouldn’t be a 70’s monster comic without juxtaposing the most bonkers monster fight with some moralizing/postulating on the human conditio

feeling nostalgic and watching utube reactors discover classic songs and then feeling both old and incredulous
#1980s music#like someone watching blondie's rapture and then stopping to go 'oh it reminds me of something it's so familiar'#different people (all younger) do this all the time and it can be infuriating#like it's an older song - did it ever occur to you that maybe what you're thinking of ... took inspiration from THIS song????#although in that case it was rather grandmaster flash and the nyc rap scene bc of course that's what the song was referencing#it's the boss baby meme but in music form#and i know i'm guikty of it too but at least in the correct direction - looking back to things that came before#not being aghast that a beat they've heard s thousand times was sampled from an old song that copied an older song lol#i will say that it is SO weird to me that peopke who say they are into hiphop never seem to reference the rap from my youth#like the late 70s and 80s sound that everything after is built on#and it's not like i know a lot about it beyond watching yo mtv raps at night lol#but i had to watch kids struggle to recognize the warren g regulate sample from michael mcdonald#like SO much of the early sampling era was just tons of samples of old records - anything they didn't have to pay for#and then listening to things and going oh this sounds like the weeknd - bro the weekend sounds like 80s songs#he sings and structures the songs in similar ways to classic tracks rather than the current trend (sometimes)#gah i'm just ranting here rather than in some poor utubers comments#i wish i had some fellow old folks to jabber with#but even when i was in high school i didn't have any friends that liked the same kind of music as i did#bts getting me more interested in music and watching videos has really been a double-edged sword sigh#everything with a live studio band with bass in it: 'oh this sounds like disco'#or worse something literally built off a disco sample and it's like they've never heard a disco song other than ymca in their life

I dunno man between all these 'have you watched' 'have you read' 'do you know this character' type of poll accounts it really seems like people under a certain age bracket straight up barely consume a lot of media or bother to watch anything older than current seasonal fodder and it's kind of sad tbh
#i remember one of my cover teacher friends asked a class when they came back from their holidays#what movies and tv shows or anime theyd watched and just found out most of them werent watching#anything but streamers or the most general disney/marvel fodder#some watched anime but they were basically all just saying the same 2 shows mainly JJK#i dunno man i'm not judging them at all but it just feels really weird#i also realise its not like all genz and younger kids but there is like a weird like lack of media they consume or know of#even as a person not of those generations i still knew a lot of 80's and 70's bands+movies+media#and anyone getting into the anime space around my age didnt just start at seasonal but would go down a selection of classics first#and be aware of others#this isnt to say younger people are stupid or less knowledgeable so much as like there's this lack of interests#IN THEIRMEDIA OF INTEREST which is so.. weird like i wouldnt know what to call the phenomena#but its like some are replacing time for watching/reading/playing things with almost entirely social media and twitch streamers/youtubers#which again not necessarily bad but something definitely feels off about it
