How is he? What could I expect from getting him?

- He does care about you

- He can be sweet

But cons:

- He will not respect your boundaries ever

- He will SPY ON YOU because he does not trust you even when he says he does

- He will keep you locked inside your house for years just so he can control you

- He keeps treating you like a child. And I don’t mean ”he sets boundaries” or makes reasonsble decisions, I mean BABY TALKING to you, can’t accept the fact that you are older than 10 (and some things he does I would even be embarrassed about at age 10)…

- Example of the above, just the other day he tried to literally feed me?? Like he grabbed my fork and went ”open up!”… sometimes I’m literally afraid to come home to find how he switched out my bed for a baby crib or something

- Boyfriends??? No no. He won’t accept that. He makes a scene if they dare to stand next to me. Actually he’s like this with boys in general.

- Have kicked out boyfriends AND friends because he’s mad

- I literally had to attend a school in secret because he wouldn’t let me attend it

- My aunt could not say she was my aunt because if she would, he would take me away again, as he wanted to escape everyone of my mom’s past

- Oh Yeah. My mom died and instead of taking care of it and maybe… idk help me grieve he just took me around the globe, moving to a new country all the time, escaping everything. It wasn’t until we moved back to BA that I started getting to know stuff. What did he think would happen if I found out more about my mom?? That I would… ”become too sad”??

- When I complained that I feel controlled, locked up and miserable he just acts like I am overreacting and ”can’t understand” why I am like this

So I mentioned previously that my childhood enemy’s mother once babysat me and my sisters when I was like 8. Let’s call her ”Priscila”.

So she and my mom used to be friends, probably only due to the fact that they had children at the same time so they could bond over that, because they have nothing else in common. Now, while I did not get along with her daughter, I did not have much against her. Until this night.

It was me (8), my twin sisters (5) and my second youngest sister (11 months). We at first did not bother our babysitter that much. We just sat on the couch watching TV. That was until she turned it off. We all protested and she said it was not good for us to watch so much TV. I argued that there was a show we did not want to miss and she was like "I don't care, you can't watch it". I didn't listen to her and put on the TV again. She got visibly annoyed, and once again turned it off. One of the twins asked what we are supposed to do instead and she was like "I don't know, find something to do."

So, naturally, we decided to play evil witches. I knew how to make water boil on the stove, so I put it on while the twins carried our sister towards the boiling water. We were just about to lower her into it when Priscila ran inside. Now, we weren’t ACTUALLY gonna boil her, we were just playing! But she was not amused. She snatched our sister and yelled at us and we were like ”you told us to find something to do so this is what we do”. She concluded we must be hungry if we have turned to cannibalism, so she made us some dinner.

Now here's the thing: We are picky eaters. Our parents did not tell her that. Or they did, and she just ignored it. Because she cooked something, I don't recall what it was, and we just refused to eat it. It was too much sauce, and different stuff touched each other. She just called us spoiled and that we need to learn to eat. We TRIED, but we could not get it down our throats. I took one bite and felt like throwing up. It was physically impossible to eat it. But "because she could eat it", she argued all of us could. Then our youngest sister needed a diaper change, so Priscila had to go away with her. I honestly think she took one for the team, so that Priscila woud be distracted for a bit.

Because, as she was gone, we just threw her food in the trash, went to get ice cream from the freezer and then decided to go watch TV. Well, I went to watch TV. The twins decided to go wake up the spirits that live in our house (my house is haunted, I don't have time to explain it). I guess Priscila has never changed a diaper before because she was gone for like 30 minutes (again, she has a daughter herself, so idk why she sucks at taking care of children). When she came back, the room was pitch black. I had to turn off the TV so that the chance of a spirit being awoken would be bigger. Suddenly all the lights flickered, and our great-grandma's spirit awoke. She's kind, but she does not like strangers, so she started yelling at Priscila. Priscila got super scared and ran out of the house and called my parents to get home, because their house is possessed! Our parents were like "yeah we know calm down".

Our great-grandma was tired and went back to rest after a while, and Priscila was now convinced it was a prank. We told her no, we just wanted to see the spirits, it was totally unrelated to her. But she wasn't too sure and she forced us to sit on the couch and not move for the rest of the evening.

She never babysat us again after that. She told our mom we were devils and my mom was like "I don't think I want you to babysit anymore".

Also, she told me that when I was a baby, all she did was feed me and put me to bed. My dad was the one changing diapers and wiping baby vomit and stuff. If he wasn’t home she apparently just let me sit in my waste because she refused.

To make it simple: I did sorta have a crush on her for many years. It's the reason I MOVED TO ANOTHER COUNTRY. She sorta had a thing for me too, but she also had so much else going on and... well, she said it was ok that I said this, but she's not as good with romantic commitment, she feels more comfortable with friendship - especially since she was getting used to a new country she had moved to and stuff, and just being friends with me like always was one of the things that was the same. And I get that. Though, I think I kinda was more pushy to be something more with her at that time, I guess moving to another country for her really gave me the confidence. But, there was some drama, we sort of fell out for a while, mostly because there was this other boy who... well we're friends now but back then he was an asshole (he has not figured out it's me who has this blog so it's ok), and he constantly tried to flirt with my bestie. And she had not even gotten much romantic experience AT ALL, so having him be all over her AND then also me, I guess it made her feel harder to commit even more. I dated another girl for a while and then I realized that girl was horrible, and I just... took it upon myself and kissed my bestie.

Everything was wonderful for a while. We had so much fun, I was filled with joy. But, we never told our parents. I was so happy I forgot to call mine, and with her parents we just pretended like nothing. But I really feel like they felt like something went on.

Anyway, I realized eventually that I was more into this relationship than her, and I did not want to ruin things between us. She really tried, I know how much she loves me, but it just wasn't the right time in her life (apparently she had a crush on me some years later but then it was the wrong time for ME, so we sort of missed each other lol). So, we broke up. This was achy, but tbh, soon enough we went back to just be the best of friends like always - and we even got closer! Trying out dating was in the end actually a really good experience for us to have, and I am more happy to have taken that chance rather than never trying.

Anyway, remember how we never told our parents we were dating? Well, we also did not tell them we broke up. Since they had sort of figured out we were dating even if we didn't tell them, they CONTINUED to think so for so long. Like, my bestie dated a guy over the summer after we broke up, she never told them. I swear that it took them almost 6 months at least to realize.

Oof this is interesting because I guess I sorta always knew I was bi, even before I knew what bi was. But I didn’t really have a crush on the same gender until I was a teenager… and I didn’t really put a word on it until a certain confrontation with my guardian…

But I think an early sign was the fact that I had this imaginary friend that I pretended came to me at night and slept next to me at night. I always loved her comfort and warmth. At one point I recall I felt almost in love with her (I was like 7 but I did feel ”butterflies in my tummy”), so I abruptly switched her gender so that I could be in love with a boy. And then this imaginary friend sometimes was a boy, sometimes a girl, and sometimes neither.

So I guess I came up with a genderfluid imaginary friend that I sorta had a crush on, although it could also have been my need for comfort? But immediately feeling like I needed to change my imaginary friend’s gender if I felt I had a crush on them, yeah… maybe that says something.

So I guess I gotta tell the story of the ”confrontation” with my guardian since many of you have been asking.

I had a crush on a girl once. I had never had a crush on a girl before, so this was very odd for me. Now, my guardian could see that something was going on, and that I did not tell her. And she is weird; she does not really care about my life, but if I don’t tell her stuff, she will get mad at me for ”keeping secrets”.

Nonetheless I got closer to this girl I had a crush on, we spent a lot of time together. And we sorta had… a little thing going on. I never told my guardian since I couldn’t see how she would find this interesting. Also I wasn’t sure how she felt about two girls…

But somehow, she found out. I guess she spied on me, or forced her assistant to spy on me (which is arguably more creepy. Imagine being a grown man and a part of your job is spying on a teenage girl). She went inside my room one night with a strict expression, as she asked:

”Do you feel attracted to other girls?”

I was taken back, not prepared for that question. I immediately got nervous and went ”no, I like boys!”

”Yes, but do you feel attracted to other girls, too?” she asked. I asked why she was asking this, and she was like ”Just answer the question”

So I said ”…yes” and felt very guilty, as if I had been doing something wrong.

My guardian was silent for a moment, and then she went ”…very well”. Then she left the room.

We never talked about it ever again.

The cackle of women enjoying the fruits of their labors filled the corridor of the abandoned warehouse as they surrounded the machine they were working on. It was a tall glass sphere with some kind of purple dust floating around inside while two titanium computers stood on either side of the device.

The three women standing around it were a set of Green Goblins who jumped from different dimensions to find a universe where there wasn’t an arachnid hero to stop them from using a bomb to take control of the city.

However they didn’t expect there to be four spidermen to be observing them around the property with one little spider hiding along the walls of their lair.

“Lyla,” Miguel whispers as he observes the meeting from the top of another warehouse. “Analyze the contents of that bomb and tell me how bad it is.”

The yellow AI materializes in front of him as Miguel tries to swat her away like a fly, not wanting her to compromise his location. Lyla rolls her eyes and explains, “The dust in that little bomb they have is made from spores of this rare mushroom. It’s been reported that inhaling the spores can cause drastic changes in behavior, mood swings, and mild hallucinations. Most cases detail paitents becoming aggressive and violent.”

Jessica’s voice buzzes through the intercom as she quips, “So they are planning on driving the city into a state of panic?”

“Sounds like it.” Ben Riley gruffs in annoyance. Miguel couldn’t help but roll his eyes as he knows the Scarlet Spider was still pissed that he couldn’t go ahead and stop the goblins.

“Sounds like a party to me, mate.” Hobie cracks as he watches from the ground. “Oi, Sunny, Dear? Wanna crash their party?”

“Yes, a party of people violently hurting each other and causing mass chaos does sound like fun.” Miguel grumbles saracastially before scolding Hobie. “She can’t reply to you, Brown. Not when she’s undercover.”

Miguel can barely make out her outline with the infared of his mask lens, but he can see his little jumping spider wander among the goblins unseen.

A big advantage to have someone with his beloved’s powers. She had almost every trait of the typical spider men, but she had a unique camouflaged ability. Without the suit Miguel made her, she can lower her heart rate and rapidly chill her body temperature so she can remain undetected by infared. She can also go invisible for a few moments without the suit, but both abilities are limited due to how strenuous it was on her being.

The suit allows her to remain undetected for a much longer time and prevents her from putting too much strain on her body. The slight heat the suit emits to keep her body functioning is the only thing that Miguel can use to track her. A major drawback of her gift is that physically she’s not as strong as the others, but she can handle herself in a fight.

Of course, he’s always there to help her. Her protective predator and his gentle prey. A match made in heaven as Jess always jokes.

“(L/N).” Miguel whispers into the com as he watches his love sneak around the device. “Attach the bug I gave you to the main computer so Lyla can deactivate the bomb.”

He makes a signal to the others to tell them to be ready for the ambush. The plan was suppose to be a simple get in and out. The invisible web shooter would get the bomb deactivated while Miguel, Hobie, and Ben rush in and take out the goblins. Jess served as support in case the villains ran past them. It was suppose to be an easy mission. Until it wasn’t.

As the bomb got deactivated, a light beep from the monitor causes the Goblins to turn around and notice that someone tampered with their bomb. Before the little spider could escape, one of the Goblins throws a jack o lantern explosive at her, causing the glass vial to exploded.

Miguel’s blood ran cold as he witnesses his love engulfed in black and purple smoke, and all reason went out the window as he rushed into the contaminated warehouse to save her.

“Miguel, wait!” Jessica screams out she drives her bike in front of the other two spidermen trying to rush in.

“What gives, Drew?” Hobie snaps, concern burning in his eyes. “We gotta get in there.”

“Not without these.” She snaps back as she hands the boys four sets of gas masks. “Lyla said it’s transmitted through air. Hurry up and put these on.”

Ben grumbles and slams the mask on before running in while Hobie and Jessica share a look. “You think Sunny will be alright?” The spiked spider asks as he places the gas mask on his already covered face.

“She better be.” Jessica sighs. “I definitely don’t want to find out how Miguel will react if she wasn’t.”

With that Hobie runs in while Jessica calls for backup to help contain the spores seeping from the windows.

“Vitals appear to be normal.” Spider-Doc mutters to the three spider people surrounding one of the hospital beds. “O’Hara and (L/N) are both looking good on blood pressure and brain activity, so I expect them to wake up anytime soon.”

Thankfully, Hobie and Ben managed to capture the green goblin trio and reinforcements came just in time to contain the spread of the bio weapon. However, both Miguel and his companion were found bloody and unconscious when they found them.

The beloved spider woman had most of the damage with several shards of glass impaled into her back and arm while gaining a severe concussion. The team figured that in the rush of the moment and his vision obscured by the cloud of dust, the goblins took Miguel by surprise and got him with three sharp projectiles while he was trying to help Sunny.

Despite the horrific scene, both of them were deemed to be alright after some surgery and the only physical damage was Sunny’s now broken arm, which should heal in about a week thanks to the signature spiderman super healing. The only worry was the psychological damage.

Both were definitively exposed to large quantities of the gas and from what Lyla had said about the mental effects of the spores, they were worried about an invisible spider and her beast of a companion tearing everything apart.

Jessica sighs as she sadly gazes at the broken and restrained bodies of her friends as Hobi places a small bear on his little friend’s bed.

“Didn’t Lyla say anything about how that antitoxin is coming along?” Peter says as he bites his nail.

Spider-Doc nods as his lens shifts to appear like he’s hopefully smiling. “Lyla has said thanks to the samples from their suits, an antitoxin will be finished in two days.”

“Two days?!” Hobie snaps up. “We are about to have two spidermen possibly going on a rampage if we piss them off. I don’t think we can wa-“

A soft groan emits from the bed beside the ranting anarchist and everyone’s attention breaks from the poor doctor and onto the small spider. Her eyes flutter open as she frowns at her surroundings.

“Sweetheart, are you okay?” Jessica soothes as she helps the disoriented girl sit up in her bed.

“I’m fine.” The girl said in an unusually blunt way. Her eyes now harden in an annoyed expression as she looks around at the group. “Next time, you guys should be more considerate to someone recovering from having their shit rocked.” She scolds before growling at the pain.

The sight of the sweet girl now acting so bothered towards their presence was so unsettling, but not unexpected. They were aware the sweet girl they knew was gonna be changed by the gas, but it’s still disturbing.

As they all stare at the glaring girl, a deep groan comes from the bed next to her as her attention focuses on her love. Her anger emerges as she snaps back to the spiders.

“What the fuck did y’all do to him?! Was it that asshole Ben Riley? I’m gonna kick his ass if he’s the reason my Miggy is in-“

“Cariño?” A soft mutter causes her verbal rampage to end as a pair of ruby eyes focused on her. Once she meets his eyes, an uncharacteristically soft grin comes over his face as he mumbles sweetly. “Hola, mi niña bonita, ¿cómo te sientes?””

“I’m fine.” The girl mumbles as she tries to keep her stern face while a little dusting of blush takes over. “What about you?”

Miguel chuckles at her face and gently reaches over and caresses her hand as he swoons, “Siento que puedo enfrentarme a un toro ahora que he visto tu hermoso rostro, mi amor.”

The group of spidermen looked at Miguel horrified as he looks up at them. Expecting him to snap at them or try and escape his restrains, but he doesn’t do either. He gives them a bright friendly smile as he cheers, “Oh, you guys made it out alright. I’m glad we are all still here together. Great job, everyone.”

Hobie backs up a couple of steps trying to calm his raging heart before he had a heart attack from the shock. Jessica looks at him disturbed as she silently records the duo on her phone to show her husband later. Peter calls Lyla on his gizmo as his face looses all color.

The AI emerges out of the gizmo with a cheery, “Hello~ you ringed?”

“What’s wrong with Miguel?” Peter snaps as he hears Sunny immediately yell at him about what he said about her Miggy.

“Oh I meant to warn you about that. Well the aggression is on a most case scenario kinda thing, not an every case thing. Since Miguel is more genetically altered with spider than Little Miss Sunshine, his natural aggression cancels out the one caused by the bio weapon.” The assistant explains.

Hobie laughs at this as he looks at the now confused Miguel, “So our big bad leader is as harmless as a kitten now?”

“Yep.” Lyla giggles. “And because our sunny pants there was as dangerous as a jumping spider before this, she’s now part of the majority percentaile.”

“What the fuck did you say about Migue, you twig?!” The formerly harmless girl bucks in her restraints as her protective nature causes her to want to thrash the punk star.

“Mi amor, por favor cálmate... No está tratando de ser grosero…” A now teary eyed Miguel tries to sooth his partner in a shaky calm voice.

That was when Jessica realized a mistake they made. When they restrained the pair earlier, Miguel was placed in titanium bands that crossed over his chest, arms, legs and hips. Since Sunny wasn’t considered a ‘major’ threat in comparison, she was just held down by some chains.

Because of this, the earth deafening sound of chains shattering cause all of the spiders to scream. The AI giggles as she responds,

“I forgot to mention that the chemical not only increases aggression, but also physical strength. In humans, they would just be slightly stronger than normal, but in Miss (Y/N)’s case…”

The rest couldn’t hear what else Lyla had to say as Hobie started booking it down the hall with a pissed off Sunny hot on his heels. Jessica frantically tries to undo Miguel’s restraints as he cries for his lover to come back.

Peter sighs and asks, “How much longer until the antidote is ready?”

“I can rush it for you. Should take another 3 hours hopefully.”

“Do you have any tranquilizers?” Peter asks as a now free Miguel tries to chase down his angry lover.

“No~”

i saw someone on twitter writing qsmp names in korean and im trying so hard not to be bothered i know they have good intentions but it was just so wrong in parts so instead here's how qsmp names would be written in korean BY THE SOUND not how they're written. note that i am not korean nor on the korean side of qsmptwt but as a casual kpoppie it's a rite of passage to learn hangul and try to learn korean at one point therefore though i am not a trusted source i do know the basics of the phonetics LUL

So when it comes to distance in a fictional setting, is metric king? I wrote some fantasy post-apoc recently where the protagonist measured it in Oranges and Aevums (the latter being their own name), but more generally speaking is it worth it to hash out bespoke measurement systems for fictional cultures, do you think?

Oranges as a measurement unit sounds so funny, and a measurement based in... yourself makes surprising sense, given all the measurements based on body parts. Why not YOURSELF?

Well, I would think in a real post-apoc world metric would be king indeed, scientific and technologic instruments are in metric even in the US and you could always get a ruler from a school or scales from a grocery store, so eventually you could get back on track to reforming the metric system. It would be interesting, though, if every society during isolation had slightly different measurements for the same units because of faulty equipment (say, ohms or amperes or even grays) and they had to make a congress to clear things up.

Returning to your main question. My perspective here is the same as conlangs. It's very, very fun to have them, but it's not fun to force your audience to read them. When I write something set in a fantasy or science fiction setting, in my head I'm assuming the characters are speaking different languages and I DO explain them and even give examples of them, but the story itself is written, for both the reader's and the writer convenience, in a language we can understand (Spanish in my case, and then it can be translated). Same with units of measurement. I seldom use direct units of measurement like writing "the ship was 110.3 meters long" (in science fiction, it's often a trap as they force you to stay true to them), when more descriptive language can be used...

In any case, you could do, for the kind of immersion I love, say something like "she was 14 oranges* tall, rather small for her age" and do an asterisk like "*A.N. : 1.39 meters tall". This is very fun when used sparingly, because it gives the worldbuilding obessed reader something to play with, you can do the conversion yourself and learn more about the world, without interrupting the story. Some understandably dislike this approach, but I think that if you know what you're doing, you can hide some pretty deep lore behind it. In one of my favorite retro games, The Ur-Quan Masters, there is an alien race called the Slylandro who live in a gas giant. When they tell you their ancient history, they use their own system of measurment based on the rotation of their planet with its own names like Dranhasa and Dranh. The game actually provides you with the rotation time on "Earth" time, so some dedicated fans did the conversion, and found out the dates fit with major events in the game's past. I thought that was an awesome bit.

But I digress again. Does this mean you should not talk about measurements in your story? No, it can do for very fun plots and digressions, as well as make things more realistic and beliveable. A fantasy world sharing all the same measurement units can be as unplausible as everybody speaking "Common". Let's remember that the current metric system is a modern invention which took a long time to be adopted (and some, well one, country, still resists it). Just take a look at the many, many historical systems of measurement:

This was especially prominent in places like the Holy Roman Empire, where every statelet, county, principality, free city, prince-bishopric, duchy, archduchy, etc. may and most often did have different measurements from each other. Just take a look at how measurements varied from each German region, it's crazy. The systems of weight where particularily important. Before the introduction of standarized coinage, coins also varied not only between kingdoms, but between regions, and even towns, and coins made at different times with different alloys had different values. Rather than money in our modern sense, you could think of them as some kind of 'asset' that could vary in value depending on the circumstances. What's more, those values had to be checked by people who knew what they were working with. Silver and gold content could be weighed, ah, but you need good scales and weights, and someone who knows how to work them! And these people could easily rip you off, or you could lose value accidentally if those scales weren't done just right or fiddled with on purpose. In fact, this is where the word 'Mark' comes from.

It wasn't as easy to take say a 100 something bill and get the change in 1 something coins. There is a very interesting subplot in the anime Spice and Wolf where Lawrence, the trader character, has been paid in gold coins, and he has to trade them into lesser denominations. However, he has to be REAL careful so that nobody scams him given all I told you above. Even getting 'gold' coins was a gamble before modern coinage and banking (another long topic). How much of that is REALLY gold and not an alloy with silver or other metal? Who can you trust to tell you how much your coins are worth? Are they compatible between borders or even time, is this version worth as much as the others? Things that characters in fantasy who have just plundered a dragon's hoard almost never think about. Except in Spice and Wolf.

This all of course, as again you can see in Spice and Wolf, can make trade very tedious and even unstable. This was one of the reasons why the metric system was so quickly adopted in Europe and then elsewhere; consistent units just allow for easier trade. Lots of other things involving measurement can have a major impact on your story. For one, you NEED consistent and accurate measurement to create even the most basic industrial and scientific equipment. You can wing it for a time like alchemists (and even they knew their measurements) but eventually, you need to measure things to understand them. To have working steam engines, steel production, chemical industries and more, you need to know your temperature is. If you want to do electricity, you need measurements for current, resistance and charge. If you're doing engineering, you need to have lenght, weight and volume very, very clear, or people will die. They don't necessarily need to be universal like the metric system (though it has lots of advantages, being coherent between units and decimal so it doesn't jump between different denominations) but they need to be standarized and measurable.

Most of the above, unless you're writing some kind of encyclopedia about a fictional scientific revolution (BASED BASED BASED) will not affect your characters directly. But IT IS worth keeping in mind for what kind of world your characters are living in. The standarization of measurement units always means SOMETHING in the state of your society, the strenght of the state and centralized authority, the state of scientific understanding (one could say that trying to measure the world was perhaps THE scientific revolution, "Man as a measure of all things"), the capability for industry and the standarization of coinage and trade.

Even if you don't have your characters interact directly with those things, they will interact with them. It's also, like I've said in the examples, fun to imagine characters having to learn or deal with different units of measurement, just as it is fun to imagine them learning new languages or cultural quirks. It's something I've done in the past, in my space opera setting, the worlds descended from the United States STILL use the imperial system, much to the frustration of the rest of the metric human sphere. There is also an alien character who has a hard time to learn human measurements, and that makes her melancholic about her past, as they can't intuitively see the now-extinct measurements she does. Again, man as a measure of all things... this does include other thinking beings...

There's more I could talk about here regarding time, but I did a post about that, though I'm not satisfied with it and will probably redo it in some time at the future. In any case, there's lot to talk about why every calendar in science fiction has 365 days and 24 hours.

The biting wind of the night caressed your face as you ran along the shore. You were soaked through and through, water splashing around your boots with each hurried step. You had been cooped up in the Raft for too long.

It had been weeks since the civil war had shattered any form of bonding. You felt the weight of your betrayal, the distrust of those you had once fought with, and, deep down, the worst feeling of all: the feeling that Steve would never come looking for you.

You never thought he would come.

You had watched him make decisions that you knew had not been lightly. The separation was a deep wound, even more so when you were trapped in the Raft, in a cold, lonely cell, unable to communicate with anyone. Every day, you waited for something, or someone, to come to your rescue. But it never came. Steve never came.

For months, you fed on your anger and disappointment, and even though everyone around you treated you as if you were a criminal, you knew that you, too, were a victim of Steve's decisions.

But one day, opportunity knocked. A lapse in security, a breach in systems, and a little carelessness. It was your chance to escape. Without a second thought, you seized that moment to flee.

You slipped into the shadows; you moved with the agility of someone who has been hiding for too long. You didn't know where you were going, you just knew you had to get as far away as possible and keep running until you were safe.

The idea that Steve might be looking for you no longer seemed so real. You had left him behind. He wasn't coming.

 First, there was a small vibration on the ground, then the sound of helicopters overhead. It couldn't be.

Maybe it was just a chase, maybe it wasn't him. But the sound was getting closer, and finally, just when you thought you could escape, something stopped you: a firm hand reaching behind you, pulling you forward with a strength only Steve Rogers could have.

In an instant, you were trapped, not in a strange body, but in arms that wrapped around you with the familiarity of him.

“You need me, I know you need me.”

It couldn't be. It had been so long; you had thought you would never see him again, but there he was.

You stopped dead in your tracks, staring at him, unable to believe it. It was real, and worst of all, he had found you. Because you knew it, you felt it: even though you had believed he no longer wanted you, you still needed him.

“What are you doing here? Why didn't you let me go?”

Steve didn't let go; his face was inches from yours.

To the second question: No - I will not provide translation. English takes up virtually all of therian spaces. Even spaces for Dutch therians, many of them are predominantly English speaking. It is a current topic of discussion within the community about the Anglo-centrism within the therian communities and opening posts up to more languages and cultural variations. It is what gave me the confidence to start sharing small aspects within Dutch. Of my posts, only a few carry Dutch sentences at the end, normally a small part in a larger post. These segments are to me particularly meaningful and hopeful, and writing them in Dutch is part of that meaningfulness.

It is actually rather rude to ask even the very small amount of space non-English posts occupy to further surrender to the domination of English language. I love to see the others in my community write and share in their own languages. Seeing writings in Spanish, comments in Romanian, and poems in Polish. I may not be able to read the words themselves without a translator, but that I see my friends sharing something, especially artistic in their own languages brings me joy, and brings so much more meaning to what was written. Language is more than just a tool of communication, it carries important aspects of identity. We should not suppress non Anglosphere identities simply to facilitate greater communication as would we do so much should be lost.

Most of my Dutch lines and comments begin with "Ik worstel en ik kom boven" - I struggle and overcome. This is the motto of my home (or mirrors it I say I one more time because I think it sounds more poetic). It calls back directly to the people and place I consider my home. I may not feel I belong among the humans, but I have lived with them for decades, and this reminder that the people of my home have struggled and fought back against a sea that would drown us is important to me because within me I have that same will to struggle, and to overcome, and that like the people of my home have overcome and held back the sea, I too will overcome and return to the waters I belong. To write those segments in English or to translate them, it would lose some of that meaning. The segments in Dutch are written not necessarily to the people reading, but for myself, an affirmation of hope and resiliance in the face of a challenge that seems near insurmountable. I will not let that be taken from me.

I've been ia for a while because of how lowkey hostile this community has become lately, and I will probably continue to be so until there's a proper resolution, whatever it may be. However, I've seen some stuff that has been said by some of the ex qsmp admins in the midst of them recounting their experiences that I cannot help but be greatly bothered by, and, as a non english speaker, is important for me to say.

The way that they have been bashing quackity for making statements in spanish, his native language, and for streaming in the time zone he lives in, is not okay. I've said in another post about how disgusting I think these kind of comments are, and being an affected party in the admin situation does not make you an exception in my opinion.

The admins have every right to talk about what they went through, their feelings are valid and they absolutely deserve compensation for their work, because they were treated horribly, there's no doubt about that, but they are not immune to criticism, especially if it's about casual xenophobia. This does not stop at lèa's interview, as lumi also didn't have a spanish translation for her document, something that prior to the interview, I didn't think about too much, but now, I can't stop thinking about. Mind you, when it comes to xenophobia, there is absolutely no denying what the french and brazillian communties went through, but you do not fight xenophobia with xenophobia.

I completely understand that it's not easy to be the one to speak about any type of abuse they suffered, I said before that because of how shitty this situation is, that all sides would make mistakes and choices that people would not like, and for me this is one of them. As stressful as it must be for them, the ex admins have a lot of eyes on them right now, and saying these kind of things have consequences; I have seen way too much xenophobia towards the hispanic community and it's actively horrible to see because, unlike other times, the other communities are seemingly ignoring it. A twitter post saying that you do not condone harrasment does not erase what you publicly said previously.

I'm gonna be honest there's more that I did not like about that interview, the way that lèa talked about the admins that are still on the team, her response to the fact that she leaks stuff... I just... didn't like it, but I wanted to talk about the whole "quackity spoke spanish" thing because it's something that I feel really strongly about. It is NOT easy to make any statements in a language that you do not natevely speak, let alone very important ones, no matter how good you are at it, to write all of this it took me two hours and I probably still made mistakes or misspoke somewhere.

I do not how to end this post, I'm just frustrated that this fandom now goes at each other throats at littlest things without question or critical thinking and that xenophobia is now so normalized. I just... expected better I guess

what has the most angst ridden ending?: ooo i'm not sure, i don't write a lot of angsty endings! poisoned pawn might be one though.

what has the happiest ending?: i think amicus curiae, mostly because the characters go through so much and then get to have such a happy ending!

have i received hate?: yeah lol, not a lot though. i don't take bad faith criticism seriously, i just delete it and move on.

do i write smut? if so, what kind?: i don't! the stuff i write for is mostly either about minors or made for minors and i don't feel comfortable or interested in writing smut for that. but i get a bit spicier with my hatchetfield fics bc it fits the media and the story i want to tell. definitely not straight up smut though (not that there's anything wrong with that it's just not my jam, writing-wise).

a WIP i’ll never finish?: probably a ridonculous race rewrite with like. SO many different teams. which is a shame bc i had a fun take for josé that probably won't see the light of day butttttttt i do wonder if i could incorporate it into something else somehow...

writing strengths: dialogue hands-down. i feel very confident in my ability to write dialogue and i've received several comments saying that readers can hear my dialogue in the characters' voices which is such a delight to hear!

writing weaknesses: i think i struggle with describing settings and appearances, i worry about info-dumping but i think i come off in the opposite in that i don't provide enough information. also run-on sentences. so much of improving my writing is learning to condense, and brother, i'm still learning.

do i like foreign language dialogue?: yes! i love having multilingual characters and seeing how their languages impact their stories. for example, i think alejandro and courtney both speaking spanish together is something that strengthens their friendship because they know they can talk to each other more vulnerably without other people understanding (i headcanon that they were the only people in tdwt to speak spanish). it also provides for some funny moments, like in amicus curiae when they retroactively realize the argentinian judge could understand their very charged conversation the whole time. honestly i loved getting to explore it in amicus curiae, with noah speaking tamil to an indian local, courtney calling for a taxi in malay because it's similar to indonesian, etc.

first fandom i wrote for: funnily enough, i did plot out some total drama fics as a kid that never saw the light of day (or were ever really fully written). it was mostly me being really into fixing duncney and then tossing duncan aside to play with courtney and gwen. i had one au where they were best friends who lived together and raised courtney's kid she had with duncan but he wasn't in the picture. i was absolutely working through some lesbianism there.

favorite fic i’ve written: oh goodness this is tough, because slippery slopes is very dear to my heart, and the fandom response has been INCREDIBLE. but i think my favorite recent td fic has gotta be amicus curiae, i really loved getting to explore platonic alecourtney more, giving the sisters a more nuanced dynamic and growth, and writing courtemma for the first time. i also LOVE LOVE LOVE my hey ted, hey melissa! hatchetfield series because melissa is my new blorbo and i have SO MUCH LORE AND FUTURE PLANS for this world!! genuinely this is a series i could see myself working on for years to come.

My hope for finishing aroace eddie to the extent I wanted to is fading every day. I think I'll get a version of it out at some point, and then maybe post some random scenes for it as an addition later on. Also the pt 2 and 3 for the thanksgiving fic are looking less likely, as much as I want to finish them

I've been told I'm good at writing things that would be plausible within the show? As in people could see it actually happening in canon (although tbf for 911 this bar gets lower every episode)

Description. Especially when it comes to characters being romantically or sexually attracted to other characters, because I don't know what that feels like so it feels fake/forced/is probably wrong.

18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue?

I think it's good! It makes it more realistic, and if it means I don't entirely understand what's going on then it's my problem, and I can just go look it up or ask someone. However I will avoid writing it 99% of the time, because I don't think me writing anything (other than maybe some basic german) would be accurate, and I would want to get it right if I incoporated, say, Eddie speaking Spanish into my fic.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

The eddie in texas fic I started a week or so ago and is already at 10k, this fic has SUCH a hold on me. probably Acceptance. it's <900 words but it's the only fic i have flagged with "main character death" so..

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

this is so hard.. prospecitvely i want to say it will be The Shape of the Tide just because of how much of a journey it will take to get us there. but as of right now it might be You, Me, and Nick just because of how damn cozy it is.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

i get a lot of "why would you do this" but so far *knocks on wood* no real hate.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

yes. and i have no idea how to answer the second question.. um ig pretty straightforward explicit hetero smut? (so far.. if anything else i could def see myself writing sapphic smut in the future)

10. Do you write cross overs? What's the craziest one you've written?

i have written one (1) crossover. it was a percy jackson/harry potter next gen where the percabeth fam move to the uk and their son gets a letter from hogwarts. i was like 14/15 and gave up two chapters in because i couldn't figure out the conversion rates of american dollars to pounds to wizard money o7 (ftr i would totally write more. it can be so fun to play with characters like that and see how they interact etc.)

no, but i would love to

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

es a tie between percabeth (pjo) and sizzy (tsc). (some might determine from observing my blog (or sideblog) that it's actually just sizzy. but (a) i love them in different ways, (b) i don't recieve asks about percabeth, and (c) the scarcity of sizzy fan-content makes my heart act out the economic principle of supply and demand lol)

15. What's a WIP you'd like to finish but doubt you ever wilI?

ivy.. i would love to see this story completed but unfortunately i no longer ship ghostwriter and even with reshaping the plot to change the endgame, i just don't feel like writing that much about jesse anymore.

16. What are your writing strengths?

i feel like i'm pretty okay at tackling complex emotions? i've also gotten comments on my imagery, voice, and characterizations.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

endings; it's the biggest critique i remember receiving in my college writing classes. i also feel like i have a tendency to get lost in the weeds sometimes, which results in too much narration. also just general confidence.. i get spooked really easily.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

it's fun if it's spanish! but so far that's the only other language i've written dialogue in.. (thank you, leo)

19. First fandom you wrote for?

i actually think it may have been ella enchanted ? it was back on figment.com when i was 13-14 and was for some sort of challenge and i thought like ooh i can connect this with ella! (i was prob in my reading and rereading the book era) but it was super short and barely connected lol

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

gonna take a page out of lexi's book and split this between fandoms hehe

for tsc: Trying. i have found myself sitting at the top of my stairs ready to leave just rereading the first like 5k of this fic way too often. (it's also horribly the longest piece of writing i think i've ever finished. so it holds a special piece of proof to myself in it.. even if its only like 8k)

for pjo: Here Without You. there's an entire fraction of my soul tied up in this fic i swear. i'm never not thinking about it. it's been incredibly cathartic for me to write, both for myself and the characters (incl. calypso who i was not expecting to learn to appreciate/understand as much as i have)

As I promised (I forgot exactly when I promised it lol), I will now explain (as much as I can), what is actually Dieselpunk (for the sake of my MurderDrones Au and the curious people who need some clarification), cuz Dieselpunk deserves more attention!!

Also, if I quote/state something wrong please tell me cuz I’m in no way any professional researcher I’m literally writing this instead of doin’ my homework (I'm literally an automatic-meat-robot-being who is fuelled by caffeine and stress), like geez, but anyway, let's dive into this wonderful distopy

What is it?

‘’The farther backward you can look the farther forward you can see.’’ (Churchill, 1944)

Some of you may already know the term Retrofuturism. Is a philosophy, an artistic movement, almost a religion. The future from a past time. It doesn’t need to be accurate with the historical context. (But it can be if you feel like it tho) You can do whatever the hell you want, of course. That’s the magic of the genre.  

You put old dreams and nostalgia with a big cup of epic technology in a blender and voilá. That’s retrofuturism. You don’t just make a new future, you take the past and convert it to something different and unique.

Of course there are like a lot of variations of the concept of retrofuturism, but for now we’re sticking with the Dieselpunk one.

‘’Dieselpunk Is a genre, style and a budding subculture that combines the zeitgeist of the interbellum period through world war II and ending it before or at the early 1950’s with postmodern sensibilities from a counter-cultural viewpoint’’

Well, that’s what the Dieselpunk Encyclopedia says, but of course, that’s not everything about the genre. It's just the surface. The tip of the iceberg. The basics. The general overview.

Where it came from?

You may think ‘’Oh well, like the steampunk, came from an epic book or something-’’ Well, no. (At least that’s according to my sources* LoL)

Is pretty fucking funny cuz this genre at the very beginning it was more like a random tag for an rpg game (Children of the Sun, 2001) who has the peculiar concept of Magic and Sience as one, like something very unique, using the aesthetic of the 20’s and 30’s. It was more like a strat for marketing than a retrofuturistic project back then.

It was thanks to the fans that this genre emerged like a ucronic-post-war thing. The magic was cut out of the equation, giving us the dystopian warfare landscape that we know as Dieselpunk. 

The thing here Is that (as I said before) that u can actually be not historically accurate as long as your context is defined by a war, taking elements from the crazy 20’s, art deco, and, of course, gasoline (You can’t have a Dieselpunk without gasoline! It’s like a Stempunk without steam, everyone knows that ofc /j) 

The way that society behaves because of the war is one of the main things that are a “must be” in the genre. Post war, hope, guns, gasoline, mafias and drama are the spice of this soup. This is the real magic.

I am not going to explain the types and subgenres of the Dieselpunk (bc I'm literally dying here in this body lol plz send help), but I wanna leave here my source if you wanna check it out by yourself (yeah, it is in Spanish, but you should be able to put it on a translator if you have internet access y'know yada yada)

Do I respond to comments?: Yes, I do. I believe if someone took the time to leave me a comment the least I can do is reply to them. Also, I generally like replying to comments. I think it's fun.

What has my most angst-ridden ending?: I honestly don't know. I think either it's one of my KHR fics or my FE fic If Only For a Moment.

What has my happiest ending?: Probably The taste of melon and the weight of a plushie fox because Hajime and Nagito got married in it.

Have I received hate?: Yes, I have. First time was when I wrote my Demon Hinata fic and I decided to write Nagito with Chiaki for the beginning. Someone messaged me crying that "I'm gay and I relate to Nagito!! How dare you write him with a woman!" While I roll my eyes at this now, this comment is why I never finished my ideas for my Demon Hinata series.

The second time was for a FE Fates fic where the premise was the Awakening Trio were scarred by Grima by getting tattooed. I wrote that because I found Koujaku in DMMD's backstory fascinating.

Someone clearly didn't like how I decided to handle my own story and instead of hitting the back button or writing their own dang fic they decided to be rude in the comments. Their comments continued and the fic was starting to stress me out. So, I deleted the story.

Do I write smut? And what kind?: Yes, I do. It's not posted so don't go looking for it. And I'm not certain what this means by "what kind?" Like?? Specific kinks? As if I'm telling.

Do I write crossovers?: Yes, I do. I wrote a BSD/SDR2 crossover. I also have written a couple of stories crossed over with XXXHolic. I love crossovers with all my heart and soul. Also, years and years ago I did a Danganronpa/Assassination Classroom crossover fic.

Have I ever gotten a fic stolen?: No, and it better stay that way or else...

Have I ever had a fic translated?: Yes! I've had multiple fics translated over the years! It is such an honour to have these translators put in such hard work and I appreciate them so much!

Have I ever co-written a fic?: LOL yes, I have! As many know I co-wrote multiple FE fics with @someobscurereference! Those being our Fates Mafia AU and Love Finds a Way.

Next, I'm also co-writing with @m34gs. We're doing a Sort of Saw Franchise AU for Twisted Wonderland. We also wrote a Silver/Sebek fic together titled Obviously We're Engaged VS I Wonder if Silver Likes Me?

A WIP I'll never finish?: I think at this point I may never finish Night Time Coffee...though I haven't fully given up on it. As for a fic not posted I've tried at least three times over the years to write a Kiznaiver FE Fates fic. It has never worked out so I don't think I'll ever finish it.

Writing strengths: I think I do a good job with descriptions, particularly settings.

Writing weaknesses: Transitions. I think I'm getting better though.

Do I like foreign language dialogue?: I think it's fine. I know some people think it breaks up a story too much, but I'm neutral to it. What I actually hate with a passion and what will always get my eyes to gloss over reading are song lyrics slapped into a fic.

First fandom I wrote for?: Way, way back when I think it was Shaman King. As for the first one I wrote and posted to AO3 it's a tie between DMMD and SDR2.

Favourite fic I've written?: Honestly, no clue. I know in the past I've sectioned this off by fandom or whatnot. But in reality I've written 276 fics. It's hard to pick a favourite. Though, I love when people tell me their favourite fics by me!
