So it's been a while. But I couldn't let James Fitzjames Finding Day pass without some celebration—thank you Doug Stenton, Stephen Fratpietro, and Robert W. Park for giving us this wonderful and terrible knowledge. I've made an emotional playlist of all of us currently experiencing whatever emotion this is:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Selected lyrics for each song included below the cut!
Strange Ships | PHILDEL
Strange ships won’t let me sail out Passed by the ice and stone now
2. I, Carrion (Icarian) | Hozier
If the wind turns, if I hit a squall Allow the ground to find its brutal way to me
3. Howling | Wild Rivers
Howling out here for the morning light I can’t sing no more
4. The Yawning Grave | Lord Huron
I tried to warn you when you were a child I told you not to get lost in the wild I sent omens and all kinds of signs I taught you melodies, poems, and rhymes
5. Sax Rohmer #1 | The Mountain Goats
Ships loose from their grins, capsize and then they’re gone Sailors with no captains watch a while and then move on
6. Long Wave | Dessa
Starve the guard dog And see what hunger does It’s easy when we’re well fed To talk of love
7. Achilles Come Down | Gang of Youths
Throw yourself into the unknown, With pace and a fury defiant Clothe yourself in beauty untold, And see life as a means to a triumph
8. Eat You Alive | The Oh Hellos
I’ve seen the true face of the things you call life The song of the siren that holds your desire Death, she is cunning and clever as hell And she’ll eat you alive
9. My Ego Dies At The End | Jensen McRae
Leave my body and my ego early Kill it kind with a surgeon’s mercy Claim I put it out of its misery
10. Who We Are | Hozier
Darling, we sacrificed We gave our time to something undefined This phantom life sharpens like an image But it sharpens like a knife
11. Devourer | Aidoneus
Beams of light, show me how to feel Light the gloam, find my Achilles heel I will welcome my mortality—let me go
12. Sound the Bells | Dessa
Go lift your sails up For one last swell Go lift yourselves up To sound the bells
13. Your Bones | Of Monsters and Men
Said goodbye to you my friend As the fire spread All that’s left are your bones That will soon sink like stones
14. Wildflower and Barley | Hozier, Allison Russell
This year, I swear it will be buried in actions This year, I swear it will be buried in words Some close to the surface, some close to the casket I feel as useful as dirt, put my body to work
15. These Bones | Azrai, Momo O’brien
It’s a savage sea we’re made to roam Every tide can turn to haunt us But the ocean reaches past these ghosts And I will always sail for more
16. By Way Of Sorrow | Cry Cry Cry
You have come by way of sorrow You have come by way of tears You’ll reach your destiny Meant to find you all these years
17. Gracestone | PHILDEL
When I open my final door I’m gonna sail much wilder seas than your ships were built for I’m turning into dust across that cove You know, I have known enough to not feel owed
18. Glowing | The Oh Hellos
You’ll rise, like land, pulled up at the sound of some strange commandment A moon alight, reflecting fully And I guess it would feel like rebirth, out of some kind of dying To see yourself so glowing

“Nobody ever loved me like she tells me she does.”
.
Wanted to try some dynamic lighting with my favorite horrible sapphics
The song Nobody by the crane wives fits them so well it hurts like the lyrics
“Tender as a bruise, sharper than a razor
Wrap her tentacles around me like she'll never let me go
Her fury shakes the rafters, but never in my favor
I'm trembling in the eye of the only storm I've ever known”
Literally are written abt them idc
.
I spent 6 hours on this and if it flops I’m going to go to your house and eat your family alive I’ll unhinge my jaw like a SNAKE

I didn't know this
Tumblr media
*p.s. - She was his gf then and his wife now, why the need to say "his first girlfriend"? First gf we knew about more like it.
OK, so here's the thing... those are JK's eyes, sue me. And the timing of that billboard falling and the keep going..
I have a draft way back from July, me talking about JM's Who MV shoot sketch. I started writing it and found that I couldn't complete it. And now with this - I didn't know this little ever so important piece of information - maybe I can talk about it a little more (bring up some of the things I was thinking about back then).
Basically a few things stood out to me while watching the BTB.
JM being JM as usual. Beautiful, talented, shrewd.
It's quite obvious that JM is involved in the direction of the MV (we were saying...), and this is one thing that stood out to me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3 things stood out to me. First was his use of the word people. "...people walk past me...". The second was "for now", as in the MV's "for now". And third was "that's what I'm trying to show". So yes, this was part of JM's vision. The song's meaning chasing that muse, but also the song's MV, which is more about finding that "someone", that "who" in a more understandable language to us, being romantic love.
Song is about the intangible, MV is about corporeal, if you wish.
Watching this had me also go back to the MV itself and notice a few more things I didn't notice first times around, and with that new piece of information about Taeyung and his then girlfriend now wife, and knowing just how huge ENL was back in the day and JM's close friendship now days with Taeyung, well, it just fits so so well.
Just bringing this back for a sec before moving on:
youtube
Back to Who MV and me trying to connect some of the dots.
The scene JM is talking about, with the people, men and women, passing him by and none of them are the person he is looking for, it comes right after this:
Tumblr media
NO QUESTION MARK ON THERE!!!
I also noticed that before this screen falls JM's interactions, the 'people' passing him by are only women, where as after the screen falls and tells him to keep going, well, then it's not only women passing him by. Now he's not limiting himself only to finding "her"? Maybe now he's looking for "him" too? Maybe "him" is the "who" he's looking for and not "her"?
But we know that the billboard has a specific "him" on it. And even though the hers and hims are crossing his path, at this point he isn't interacting with them, they aren't the who he's looking for.
Tumblr media
Another interesting thing I found was that when it comes to those one on one's they are only with women. We have them before the screen falling, and after it fell and he is walking down the street people walking him by, even then, the only ones he interacts with are women. But as he is doing that, this appears on the screen as well:
Tumblr media
This is also right after the huge screen falls from the sky. Is this again someone or something telling him to go back, rewind, that the screen he just walked away from has the answer he's looking for?
Tumblr media
That he missed something, or someone...
Tumblr media
And we know NOTHING is a coincidence when it comes to these two, especially in their artistic decisions.
This either:
Tumblr media
We weren't sure at the time what it all meant.
What was JM hinting to?
What were the editors of AYS hinting to?
I know not everything about their art is about them as a couple. I've said that multiple times. Not every song is about one or the other or them and their love for each other. Not at all.
But...
That doesn't mean we should ALWAYS dismiss the possibility that it may just be about them. That some of their lyrics do have to do with each other, that some of their songs (even if they did not write the lyrics themselves) do have representation of their relationship in them, that some of their artistic decisions are about them showing their true selves and their love for each other.
We have seen songs that we just KNOW are written for the other, about the other, about their love for each other, about a moment they shared with one another, about what the other means to them. And sometimes when the song isn't there are things surrounding them that are. It can be photoshoot concepts or hints within their artistry that pay homage to the other, or that they are agreed upon hints to what they mean to each other. We have seen this with both of them during their solo journey as well.
And now with this new piece of information, which I was not aware of, coming to light I'm thinking that this isn't about a collab or a song (although I would love for there to be a Jikook song). I'm thinking that our first knee jerk reaction to this could have been the right one. That this was all about the Who. That the eyes on that screen, the one JM doesn't get to see in the MV, those are the eyes of his "Who". In the MV, but more so, you know, in real life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Another p.s. - I know I've been silent since the last AYS episode has dropped. It's been a hectic week, but more so it's been hard for me to even try and put into words how I felt coming out (pun most definitley intended) on the other side of this episode. I am working on my post at the moment. The words are not coming easy, I can tell you that much. But it will come. Eventually.💜💜

'Bluza' lyrics ❤️‍🩹
Tumblr media
Translated by @moonlvster
Spotify | Lyrics Translate
Text format below the cut
Bluza (SRP)
Stolicu primakni
Dok jednom srce otkuca
Spasite me, smislite neki plan
Ako svane sunce
Ostaću sam
Blouse (ENG)
Move your chair closer
Touch my hand
Tonight you're my muse
In the rhythm of your blues
I will dance non-stop
The room feels too small for us
I'm acting like a drunk idiot
But I haven't had a single glass
I think I've fallen in love with you
Yes, me, who didn't believe I could be crazy about someone
For you, like in love songs and movies, I would go anywhere now
Just turn around
Glance towards me
Silence alone will
Pass kilometers between us In a single heartbeat
The room feels too small for us
I'm acting like a drunk idiot
But I haven't had a single glass
I think I've fallen in love with you
Yes, me, who didn't believe I could be crazy about someone
For you, like in love songs and movies, I would go anywhere now
Don't turn the lights on yet
Just one more moment
So I can admire that beauty
Don't turn the lights on yet
Don't summon the day
Save me, think of some plan
If the sun rises
I'll be alone

yk how some fica about hobie is like him tapping on the window, you let him in and he’s hurt and you fix him up? what about the other way round 😮
ikik I’m so smart 😘
So cute! Thank you for requesting, hope you like it ❤️❤️
Pairing: Hobie Brown x fem! Reader/ Spider-Punk x fem! Reader

ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ
Hobie sits on his patchwork couch, he strums his guitar softly, a rare tune escaping from the scruffed but well loved instrument. His steaming cup of tea sits next to his notebook where his numerous cluttered thoughts are scribbled about. Some are doodles, a few are coherent enough to become lyrics for his new song.
“Fuckin’ hell,” he says under his breath, crossing out a word that does not fit well with the song. Notebook abandoned, he sticks his pen on the shell of his ear to strum the strings again.
The houseboat suddenly jostles, soft enough not to spill his drink, but hard enough to knock his pen off his ear. Hobie, knowing full well what— or who the cause of the shake was, closes his notebook immediately before he could see your masked face peek out of the circular window like a gopher.
You knock then wave to him excitedly. He feigns annoyance through narrowed eyes, which made you pout under your mask. He can't see it, but he knows you're giving your signature vigilante pout and puppy dog eyes that he can't resist.
Without a second more, he stands up, socked feet creating friction on the carpet. Opening the window for you, you lean on the sill, elbows propped up on the chipping paint.
“Whatcha doin'?” You ask, voice muffled by the mask. He faces the whites of your mask, flicking where your nose should be. “Ow, grumpy.”
“What am I doin'? I should be askin' you that. You do know I gave you a key for a reason, right, love?” His eyebrow raises questioningly, piercing shining in the moonlight. “It's almost midnight, get your arse in ‘ere.”
You shrug with a chuckle. “I got held up by Goblin.”
“I swear if I ever see that wanker flyin’ ‘round—”
“—You'd throw a molotov at him!” You finish for him. “I know, my love.” Patting his cheek, you climb into the houseboat like usual, groaning and wincing when your skin pulls at your injury.”
“You hurt?” He helps you up on your feet, hands holding your arm, worry etched on his handsome face. “Love?” He asks again when you don't answer, his hands reach up to the hem of your mask, not pulling, waiting for your permission.
“Just a tiny bit.” Your pained wince under your tone says otherwise.
“Can I see?” Hobie asks, thumb brushing along your clavicle. With a nod from you, he gently tugs at your mask, effectively pulling it off without aggravating any injuries you might have on your face. “That doesn't look like a tiny bit, love.”
He sighs, eyes roaming along the tiny cuts along your face. But his main concern is the large gash along your jaw that runs up to the side of your nose. It's an angry wound that still bares goblin's unmistakable mark from his claw. Your mask in his hand feels pristine despite the injury, he wonders if you changed it before you got to his place so he wouldn't worry too much.
“I know, ugly, right?” You give him a weak smile when his silence cuts through you. “I–I just wanted to stop by so you don't worry when the radio broadcasts the fight in the morning.” Cupping his cheek, you reach up to flatten the folds from his knitted brows. “You'll get old really quick if you keep doing that.
“Not ugly.” He shakes his head, hands falling down to your shoulders to rub soothingly. “Still bloody fit.” You give him a gentle smile. “Sit down, let me take care of you, yeah?”
You inhale sharply, you'd be lying if you tell him that you're all fine and dandy after getting pummeled on the ground. “I can just go home, I really just wanted you to see me now so you don't have to worry about me tomorrow.”
“Well, I can worry now, or tomorrow. I choose now, love.” His eyes soften under the moonlight, and you can't help but surrender and embrace him fully. He hugs back, arms wrapped around your middle protectively, knuckles tracing your spine. “Anythin’ else I have to worry ‘bout?”
“Nothing else, I'm just due for some cuddling.” You say as you peck the underside of his jaw lovingly.
“Doctor's orders, I bet?” He whispers, eyes closing, face hidden in your hair whilst avoiding your scratches.
“Yeah, I have a prescription and everything.”
Hobie chuckles, patting your behind to make you place your feet on top of his. Once you get the message, he waddles towards the couch with you still in his arms. You help by giggling into his skin, lips meeting his warm cheek.
He sits you down gently, “I'll get the kit, stay.”
“Yes, sir!” You mock a salute, making him chuckle.
“Far from it, love.” He leaves, but not without you smacking him behind the second he turns around. Looking over his shoulder, he smirks. “You're playin’ a dangerous game.”
You tilt your head, lips curling into a playful smile. “I know exactly what I'm doing, Hobs.”
With a roll of his eyes, and a quip on the tip of his tongue, he walks towards the bathroom to retrieve the first aid kit. All with a grin on his lips, and stomach doing flips.
You've almost fallen asleep on the couch when he finally comes back. The cold sting of the antiseptic hits your cheek as he dabs it with a cotton ball. “Ouch.” You can't seem to look away from his eyes when he sits this close to you.
“Almost there, I'll make this quick.” He says while he lets you wrinkle his shirt in your grip.
“Why is it every time I see you I get lost in your eyes?”
“You see me everyday. You tellin’ me you get lost every time I look at you?” His movements pauses, eyes twinkling under the lamp. “How do you get anythin’ done?”
“Oh,I try.” You wink, but your wound prevents you from winking fully, making you look like you're spasming.
“Alright, you bloody flirt.” Chuckling, he places his thumb over your eyelid to make the skin relax. “Did you get him?”
“Mm-hmm, I got him by electrocuting his ass.” You lean into his touch as he continues to tend to your wounds.
“That's my girl.” He nudges your nose with his own, and then gives you a quick kiss on your lips. You chase his lips when leans away, pouting again. “All done. You didn't need any stitches.” He rubs your thighs affectionately, smiling sweetly at you. “Stay the night?” He knows you'll eventually heal before lunch tomorrow, but he'd still tend to you no matter how many times you tell him about your abilities. He'd do it every time you come to him.
“Absolutely.” You close the distance, breath fanning across his lips as you kiss once, twice, before moving away. He sighs, smiling in content. “If you tell me what you're working on.” Glancing towards his notebook, you give him a sly smirk.
“Cheeky.” He grabs the notebook before you could. “No.”
“Aw, come on, Hobie! Just a peek!”

Sharing His Earphones
Tumblr media
♡ Genre: Fluff ♡ Pairing: Bakugou x Reader
Tumblr media
It would be a long bus ride before your class arrived at their destination. You already picked out the perfect window seat for yourself while Bakugou slipped into the seat beside you. Your classmates shuffled around the place in the background.
"Got something for you," Bakugou said.
"Huh? What is it?"
Bakugou took out some corded earphones connected to his phone. He put one earbud in your ear and the other in his.
"Listen to this," Bakugou said, bumping shoulders with you. One of Bakugou's favorite songs started playing.
Your eyes lit up. "I know this one! Of course you'd like a song like this. Do you know the lyrics?"
His head snapped to yours. "I'm not singing. There's fucking people around."
You headbutted him very lightly. "We're at the back of the bus, just sing a little! I wanna hear you rap."
Bakugou quickly surveyed their surroundings to make sure all other students were already in their seat and not listening in before he said this next part.
"Dammit, you've already heard me rap before!"
"I want to hear it a thousand times more," you said, smiling.
Bakugou looked down at you, incredulously. The rap lyrics kicked in and Bakugou started begrudgingly rapping underneath his breath. You could tell he was quickly getting into it, like he always did when you two were alone. You bopped your head to the music as Bakugou's spiteful eyes didn't leave yours.
The rap part ended along with his brief performance. "There? Happy?"
"Louder! Louder!" You waved your arms. "Encore!"
"Shhhhh! Shut up!" Bakugou brought a finger to your lips. "Don't tell a fucking soul or I will murder everyone on this bus except for us."
"Encore!"
"NO!"
Another rap verse came on. This time, you started rapping. But your raps were much more playful than his. You still bopped your head to the music and nudged him with the beat. Bakugou barely reacted to your playful nudges even as the bus started moving, unwilling to entertain your silly antics. But he never tore his eyes away.
Your rap verse ended and you did a little "Ta-da!" pose.
Bakugou looked you up and down. "You done? Forever?"
You pretended to look hurt. "Was it that bad?"
"No. I just wanna listen to these songs with you in peace."
"If you wanted peace, you would've stopped being friends with me a long time ago."
You two held each other's gaze, your smiles versus his frown. You wouldn't fall for Bakugou's tsundere antics. Finally, he sighed and bumped his head against yours.
"Yeah, I know," Bakugou said, softly.
For the rest of the bus ride, you listened to all the songs on Bakugou's phone. A lot of love songs reminded you of him. Some of the songs described your relationship quite well, including your underlying romantic feelings for the boy. What's weirder, a suspicious number of songs happened to describe your appearance in particular, and quite favorably too. When you pointed them out, Bakugou skipped ahead to the next song, which would sometimes have the exact same issue.
"It's like the song is describing me!" you said.
"You'll never hear it again," Bakugou said, frantically skipping yet another song.
"...But I liked that song," you said, poking your fingers together.
Bakugou stared at you. You stared back.
"Fine." Bakugou pulled out his phone to repeat the last song and you got giddy hearing the lyrics describe your appearance again.
"This song is soooo me," you said, dancing in your bus seat. "Do you listen to this all the time?"
"Sometimes..." Bakugou said, not meeting your eyes. "...You got any songs that describe me?"
"Maybe a few that describe some hotheaded individuals, sure."
His head sharply turned to yours. "So you only got ones describing my flaws?!"
"You wanted something else?"
Your innocent expression and question caught him off-guard.
"I just wanna see what songs remind you of me," Bakugou said, for only you to hear.
Bakugou's current song ended and he paused the next one before it could play. You took his earphones and connected it to your phone instead, playing songs from your own playlist.
"Let me show you," you said.
Then, one of your favorite love songs started playing.

(The last line might seem more or less romantic depending on what your favorite love songs are... XP)

SLYTHERIN BOYS AS band members.
Mattheo Riddle - DRUMMER.
he always loved to tap his fingers anywhere, out of boredom or simply to past time
he also used do pen spinning, like A LOT - he learned a lot of tricks while waiting for time to past in detention
so starting as drummer in the band was the best idea ever
he does a lot of tricks with the sticks, he loves the attention
he likes to be very “aggressive” while playing, so a lot of physical movements
he doesn’t really like to help out with vocals, but does it when necessary
Theodore Nott - VOCALIST.
as someone who loved singing anytime he could, being vocalist suited him well
he doesn’t write the lyrics all alone, but since he was the main vocal he likes to train songwriting a lot
he does know how to play guitar and sometimes he plays it when the song has more than two guitars, but doesn’t really like to do it and sing at the same time
the only other instrument he actually likes to play while singing is keyboard, which is really helpful since they like to put it in a lot of songs
he likes to play a lot with the timing of his vocals, so expect a lot of different melodies in live performances
a huge fan of walking around the stage while singing too
Blaise Zabini - BASSIST.
probably started off as a cello player as a kid, but grew founder of bass with the hype of being in a band and all the fuss that came with it
he works a lot with mattheo on the musics’ basic melodies
he writes most of the songs they play, having some help from the others
likes to do solos most, since people underestimate his abilities and overlook the other members
he helps with backing vocals, especially in the early stages of practicing a new song since he is the first to memorize the lyrics
he’s veryyyy chill, almost doesn’t move around while playing
Lorenzo Berkshire -  RHYTHM GUITARIST.
fun fact: contrary to popular belief, he had to practice really hard playing electric guitar since he was used to playing acoustic since he first learned it
once he got the hang of it there’s no way of stopping him, he is absolutely confident that he’s the best he could be
his confidence helps with his stage presence, which is why he gets all the girls swooning over him
he doesn't really like solos, and that’s the main reason why he didn’t accept the lead guitarist position, but he profoundly relishes in harmonizing with other guitars in the song
he likes to play side by side with whoever else is near him in live performances, he will walk towards the closest boy to play and vibe - especially when harmonizing with the lead guitar
someone once told him to grow his nails out so he wouldn’t have to use a plectrum and his immediate answer was “are you mad??? such a loony”
Draco Malfoy - LEAD GUITARIST.
he always been a rock band enthusiastic, actually this whole idea was his all along
he started as covering his favorite songs on his electric guitar - the one he received from his father as a birthday gift
and as soon as he realized theo could sing he immediately asked for him to sing while he played and then he brought the others with time - and with a lot of convincing mattheo
so he likes helping with vocals, he really likes it
but his favorite thing is when the guitar does the intro to the song
he loves to play along with enzo’s exaggerated self and put on a show while harmonizing in live performances

some things i enjoyed about tonight in no particular order:
- claws in your back with a full band
- happy to be here with a full band
- even with a full band
- DIFFERENT NEW SONG
- someone giving her flowers (pink carnations i heard!!!) and then people started singing her happy birthday five days early
- she shut that down by going “nononononono” and shredding and—according to my dad (whose birthday it ACTUALLY is)— saying “i’m in charge”
- her dedicating rejoice to her friend ariel (ariel baldwin, who made her devout queer shirt and put together her loss protection zine and the lyric videos for the rest and more stuff i can’t think of)
- matt saying “you better sing” to us before everybody does
- singing along and screaming my lungs out
- the show beginning with over with her off stage and then her coming on stage for appointments—it was so dramatic and exciting
- her saying just kidding when she came back for encore
- her looking fucking incredible in a plain white t-shirt (just like she looked fucking incredible last night in a different white shirt. her in white shirts. damn.)
- the setlist was super different! which is so cool! i wonder what she’s gonna do tomorrow!
-oh and both the openers were wonderful!!!
-all of it. just all of it.

Extry! Here's 'Newsies' by Harry Haun (ca. 1992, New York Daily News)
transcription under the cut
---
Extry! Here's 'Newsies'
by Harry Haun, Daily News Staff Writer
NEWSIES. Cristian Bale, David Moscow. Directed by Kenny Ortega. At the Sutton. Running time 125 minutes. Rated PG.
IF FAGIN HAD BEEN A union man, the results would roughly resemble "Newsies," some diverting Disneyized song-and-dance about the famous New York City newsboys strike of 1899.
Again we have - in a very Oliveresque sort of way - a whole armada of scruffy ragamuffins kicking up their heels and clicking them amid their abounding squalor.
We weren't kidding about the song-and-dance you see. The music is by Alan Menken, who nine days ago picked up two Oscars for "Beauty and The Beast"; the lyrics are by Jack Feldman, and the dancing (not so dirty, this time) is from Kenny Ortega, who concentrates mainly on making his movie-directing debut while getting a choreographic assist from Peggy Holmes and William Holden Jr.
No contest, this. The songs win out. There are eight of 'em, all in Menken's pop-tune vernacular, and Ortega socks them along with exuberance, although it could be argued his sharp, angular movements aren't that appropriate for the situation - even a little laughable when reproduced on a large level (the waifs often seem wired and give every impression of going into a mass spasm).
Ortega is less lucky at moving the nonmusical passages. Scriptwriters Bob Tzudiker and Noni White play fast and loose with the facts of the case, grinding them into formula for easy digestion.
The bad guy is Joseph Pulitzer, more penny-pinching than his prizes suggest; rather than raise the price of his paper and risk losing readers to Hearst, he takes it out of the middle-boy, hitting his teen peddlers with the price hike.
The Fagin figure of these youths is not really older, just taller - but he does hail from a shady, hard-knocks past. Jack Kelly (né Francis Sullivan) tries to play Spartacus for the newskids without getting his picture in the paper, lest he be dragged back to juvenile jail. (Some chap in a black suit and dour disposition keeps popping up like an old-fashioned truant officer, putting a damper on rallies.)
All Jack wants is to be a cowboy, and, in slow moments, he croons longingly of "Santa Fe." To get there, he is forced by Pulitzer to eat crow in public and turn scab, but, when management goons start playing hardball, he returns to the barricades of the rebelling newsboys. The plot is vintage Bowery Boys.
Christian Bale, who has sprouting into a hulking Ethan Hawke clone since "Empire of the Sun," is a thoroughly presentable hero, as is David Moscow, the young Aidan Quinn lookalike who's his second-in-command. Gabriel Damon, leading the Brooklyn contingent into the fray, convinces as their tough-nut accompanist.
The adults are left with little better than bits to play. Robert Duvall is an amazing adversary as the warts-and-all Pulitzer, and Ann-Margaret gives the film a Florodora flourish, girlishly getting off a couple of music-hall turns.
The news about "Newsies," first and last, is that it makes harmony, not history - but that's enough to make an engaging, sprightly entertainment.

so i wrote down everything kris said in the spoken part of the q&a bit of the discord live thing and shared it on the joblr discord, but @leopardom suggested i collate it all here as well!
will there be an mv?
yes, definitely, cannot say exactly when. but we have a very good idea for it and i can't say anything right now. a lot of our balkan fans will be very excited about it. we might drop it after the song gets an x amount of streams. maybe 500,000 or something like that. i am not the person who decides.
how long did it take you to record?
complex question. in hamburg we spent 3-4 days on it and recorded 70%. mostly everything except the vocals and some synths. the rest was around a month in ljubljana to finish it, then we mixed it for 2-3 weeks. (mod jokes about sharing there were eight versions in the openstage, kris is confused) more of trying to catch a feeling than a specific sound, that's why. it's hard to communicate that with a mixing engineer. usually it takes about that many versions before we're satisfied.
what was the thought process behind the cover art?
the photo was taken by mark pirc. the artwork seems random at this moment, i can't say much, but it will make a lot of sense.
why did you decide to remove the intro?
i've seen some people asking about this. there's the two-sided nature of playing music before it's officially released. we weren't satisfied with it on tour but it was presentable to be played live. when we got to hamburg we decided we didn't like the arrangement anymore, it wasn't in line with the vibe and spirit of the composition of the song. we toned it down and made it more sensitive because of the lyrics and mood of the song.
bojan said in warsaw that final version would have more instruments (confusion by kris that he was talking about bluza?)
i have no idea what he said, maybe he was referencing the fact that we played the pijano version of the song. but there are like at least maybe 3 or 4 layers of synthesisers and pianos so maybe he was thinking of that. all of those are credited to our "piano playing god jan". i did the guitars apart from the acoustic which is bojan's doing. nace and jure did their parts on drums and bass. the future live performances will be the new version.
who were your biggest influences getting to the final mixed version?
good question. i don't think we had one specific song in mind. we felt like it's a ex-yugoslavian evergreenish kind of song which we grew up listening to, we just wanted to keep that vibe while transitioning from an acoustic song to a complete arrangement. i think we succeeded. i know during the recording process žare said he would liken this song to a song by simple minds or talking heads or something like that, i'd have to look it up. also it kind of gives me the same feeling as when listening to a song by plavi orkestar called od rođendana do rođendana.
we saw bojan post a photo [of a notebook page] with stolica bluza while in london, what was the development process from that?
the first memory i have of the song is bojan coming into the living room and having the lyrics of the first verse and chorus already written, trying to figure out the chords. it was a well-defined song when i first heard it, i can't speak to his initial perception of the song, it came out of him very quickly, which is always a good sign. i think we all very quickly understood what the assignment was with this song so to speak. often we get a song where we want to arrange it and do it but have a lot of figuring out to do, but this song was very clear cut. it fell into place very quickly by our standards.
playing the unfinished song live was an experiment, did you like the process?
it's not the first time we've done it but it's the first time in a long time we've played unreleased songs. we did it before the first album, which was a whole different experience. it's been interesting to see it play out in this international surrounding. i think it did help, especially for šta bih ja, which immediately gained a very positive reception from the crowd and gave us a lot of confidence and direction. we knew we didn't have to change much for šta bih ja, while with bluza we kind of knew this wasn't really what we wanted from the song.
can we expect more songs similar to bluza?
uhhh... i'm sick if you can hear it. i think there will be like one more song comparable to bluza, also in serbian, a bit more slow paced, but the rest won't be that similar. there's only a limited amount of space for that type of song, we don't want to repeat ourselves. hopefully the album will sound like a unified body of work but there's still a lot of variation in it to satisfy our desire for, i don't know, experimenting with new sounds and song types and concepts.

Not a comparison that functions as reasonable but as a thought exercise I am superimposing Sabrina carpenter lyrics over Taylor Swift's public image and it makes the entire thing (Sabrina carpetnerer being successful) that much more astounding to me. Can you imagine if taylor swift was writing lyrics on par with "sounds like blah blah bleh blee." Actually not that impossible but it IS crazy that when taylor swift puts out a song with bad lyrics the world spends at least a weekend ripping her to shreds (you remember what happened when she first put out you know how to ball i know Aristotle) vs it seems like largely the world is allowing sabrina carpenter to get away with the exact same thing and famously I'm no defender of taylor swift's lyricism but she does have some hits. At least several instances throughout her body of work of like. Artistry. Craftsmanship. Swifties are the only people defending taylor swift's worst material vs all of sabrina carpenter's stuff is at least as bad as taylor swift's worst work if not worse and the entire world is still somehow pretending sabrina carpenter's material passes as music

hey guys. have you heard of hadestown.
(its a musical that meshes the myths of orpheus & eurydice and hades & persephone)
orpheus is a naive (sorta sheltered?) bard who acts on his whims while eurydice is a realistic and tough girl who's doing all she can to survive
hades is king of the underworld and keeps persephone there a lot of the year meaning there's a lot of winter up above
now hear me out.
3rd life.
scar as orpheus, grian as eurydice.
wedding song as scar proposing they take over the desert, the second verse being grian suggesting they take the dark oak. now, imagine all I've ever known as a dark night dancing in the desert not to mention, "its a sad tale, its a tragedy" (bonus: in a gathering storm eurydice calls for orpheus and he isn't there because he's off writing his song, narratively similar to grian calling for scar in double life when everyone was digging around for their sugar cane while scar was off accidentally lighting the place on fire and petting the jellie pandas)
extra bonus ideas:
persephone sounds like bdubs? like, listen to livin' it up on top. the gritty voice/singing and all her attitude (/pos) and some of the lyrics "who makes the summer sun shine bright?/thats right! persephone!" (he was the esmp2 sun god!) she sort of reminds me of the vibe bdubs gave off when he was ren the king's guy in s9 (my impression was he was kinda frantically running around at ren's whim, its not at all the same with hades and persephone but there's the sort of obeying a king thing)
leading me to my next thought of ren as hades. someone i was listening with said "winter has come" which made me think of "red winter is coming" dfhj
but another thought is just the last life ethubs divorce? seems very relevant with bdubs persephone parallels
also in hey little song bird hades refers to eurydice as a canary and we all know whos a canary
hermes (conductor of the train on the road to hell) and the fates play a narrator type role except hermes is more explicit while the fates are the humming in the back of your head they weave the path of how everything goes and you cant defy them
martyn throughout all the series is a sort of nomadic no solid home kinda guy and always self aware (he makes the lore-) which connects him to hermes for me but at the same time the fates are very much watcher/listener things so like bigb and martyn? (i don't know the lore sorry lol) i'd also say that somehow impulse's littlefinger flip floppy triple double agent character in third life gives a vibe like he knows whats going on in all the groups also connecting him to them for me
(i will say scar could fit hermes as well in being a sort of travelling sales person in last life and a bit in double life? also I've read dirges in the dark which means i see him and the devil and making deals with complicated clauses as very interconnected)
my final note (and being a devils advocate)
scar could also parallel hades.
if you watch his perspective he's very happygolucky and doesn't seem to get the real weight of the situation and such but from other perspectives his and grians deal seems kinda like he's had grian sign away his soul or he's kidnapped grian and there's some stockholm syndrome happening (its actually grians guilt but i digress)
hades convinces eurydice (scar is a silver tongued man) to sign away her soul to him and also the story of hades and persephone is that he kidnaps her and she eats some pomegranite and has to stay in the underworld for part of the year
sooo yeah. paralells between hadestown and 3rd life/life series. enjoy.
