#making an automatic watering system w arduino#have it flashed to trigger the relays already for a variable amt of time#which at the end of the day is basically all it takes + scheduling#but now ofc its growing its own potential spinoffs...#i wanna add a BLE module to be able to control the scheduling from like a phone#which will then also require some minimal data storage...#then the big question is rly how to power it...#its probably gonna b within an extension cord length from the back door but dont wanna deal w unplugging it for rain etc#so maybe like a weatherproof case w solar & a battery? but then ive gotta figure out the best way of battery-izing it....#lithium seems like an overkill unless its like maybe lifepo#& generally prefer lifepo over cobalt etc for safety#but then ive gotta figure out how to add a charging circuit to it....#anyway then once i have the app controlling scheduling i can also start integrating it into my home organizing/etc app?#& ideally be able to like have a couple nodes like that?#ah fuck also gotta figure out a case#maybe just start w a nice n dirty project box til i eventually make a custom enclosure/PCB backplate for the assemblage#maybe just put it next to our sprinkler box & just make the tubes longer so i dont have to fuck around w batteries for this?#starting to convince myself of that idea tbh#rn the relayboard has 4 guys...might b better to just have this as the master instead of having nodes so just get more relays#centralize & dont have to deal w synching headaches#maybe get like a multiplexer? not like this would necessarily need multiple at a time 1 at a time wouldnt b the end of the world#& i have some cheap moisture sensors but dont rly trust em tbh#esp w plants i intend to eat#eventually tho maybe link some sensors into the system#tho weather alone is probably enough to figure out#oh! huh how would i do that....#dont wanna have a whole ass wifi connection on the arduino#or like parsing web results on there...#& i dont rly wanna only know when connecting to my phone...#so that seems to point towards some client that checks the weather prediction like once a day & sends that/consequences to arduino?

Exploring The Different Types Of Solar Charge Controllers
Solar charge controller is a device placed between the solar panel and the battery pack to control the electrical energy produced by the solar panel entering the battery.
It needs to coordinate the work of solar panels, batteries, and loads to ensure the stable operation of the entire off-grid solar power system. At present, the popular solar charge controllers on the market mainly include MPPT solar charge controllers and PWM solar charge controllers.
PWM refers to pulse width modulation.
The PWM solar charge controller uses the data output of the microprocessor to control the module. It is a kind of digital encoding method for analog signal electricity. Controlling the module by data can greatly reduce the cost and power consumption of the system, and the efficiency of charging conversion is 75-80%
MPPT (Maximum PowerPoint Tracking) refers to maximum power tracking.
It is more complicated and the cost is higher. The MPPT solar charge controller can adjust the input voltage to get the maximum energy from the solar panels. It can track the power generation voltage of the solar panel in real time, and track the highest voltage and current value (VI), so that the system can charge the battery with the maximum power output. The efficiency of MPPT tracking is 99%, so that the overall system power generation efficiency can be high reached 97%.
Suitable solar charge controllers can be selected for different solar systems. Xindun PWM has 12V/24V/48V 10A~60A, 96V/192V/384V 50A~200A; MPPT has 12V/24V/48V 10A~60A, 96V/192V/216V/240V/384V 50A/100A .

Build a Handy 12-Volt Solar Generator with LiFePo4 Batteries
Building a Solar Generator Batteries “Winston” LiFePo4 cell with hardware Previously, I wrote about Upgrading a Solar Power System and mentioned a cache of new Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4) cells. The “ThunderSky Winston” cells had come from a Segway repair operation and were new. A little looking around the ‘net revealed they were still available from GWL Group. With a capacity of 60 Amp…

Utilities Mod by Twinsimming 💡💧
This mod adds optional power and water utilities for players looking for some added challenge in their gameplay.
This is a script mod that can be placed in your Packages folder. It was built and tested on 1.69 but should work fine on 1.67.
New Objects
Power Box
- Price: §0 - Category: Misc. Electronics/Misc. Appliances - Includes 3 original swatches + 1 recolorable option (3 channels) - Poly Count: 274
Water Pipes
- Price: §0 - Category: Misc. Plumbing - Includes 3 original swatches + 1 recolorable option (3 channels) - Poly Count: 1065
Utilities
The Power Box controls power and the Water Pipes control water (self explanatory :p). Both utility objects are free in buy mode in the Misc. Electronics tab and Misc. Plumbing tab, respectively.
Once placed down on your lot, you can enable one or both utilities. When the utilities are enabled, power and/or water will be cut off to certain objects on your lot until you "Turn On" the Power Box and/or Water Pipes.
While the utilities are on, your sims will be charged between §1 - §3 simoleons for every 10 minutes they use an object that requires a utility, with the charge varying based on the size of the object. The total cost will be added to your next household bill.
If you want to opt out of the utilities system, just use the “Disable Power Utility” and “Disable Water Utility” interactions available on the utility objects.
The utilities system only applies to the active household.
A full list of all of the objects affected by the Power Box and Water Pipes utilities and their usage costs can be found on the mod download page.
Utility Costs and Usage
To check how much you've spent on utilities during the current billing cycle (between when you pay your bills and the next bill payment), click on the "Check Utility Usage" interaction on either utility.
To see your full utilities breakdown, use the new "Check Utility Costs" interaction on the computer.
Also included in the full utilities breakdown is a Green Energy Rebate total.
This total calculates how much money a lot saves by using the Solar Panels and Wind Turbines from the Sims 3 Store and factors that into the total utilities cost.
The full utilities breakdown also shows up when your sim pays their bills.
Lack of Funds
If your household funds fall below the usage cost of a utility, that utility will be shut off and cannot be turned back on until your funds are sufficient.
Bill Delinquency
If you’re late on paying your bills, your utilities will get shut off. Both utilities will be shut off when your bills are two days old.
Tuning
All of the tunable values can be found on the mod download page under the header “Tuning”.
Script Namespace
If you want to turn another object into a power or water utility, open your desired object in s3pe and replace the current script name with the following:
Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.Twinsimming.Utilities.PowerBox
Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.Twinsimming.Utilities.Water Pipes
Conflicts & Known Issues
These are new scripted objects so there shouldn’t be any conflicts.

How to Build a Small Solar Power System - Low-tech Magazine
Readers have told me they like to build small-scale photovoltaic installations like those that power Low-tech Magazine’s website and office. However, they don’t know where to start and what components to buy. This guide brings all the information together: what you need, how to wire everything, what your design choices are, where to put solar panels, how to fix them in place (or not), how to split power and install measuring instruments. It deals with solar energy systems that charge batteries and simpler configurations that provide direct solar power. Conventional solar PV installations are installed on a rooftop or in a field. They convert the low voltage direct current (DC) power produced by solar panels into high voltage alternate (AC) power for use by main appliances and rely on the power grid during the night and in bad weather. None of this holds for the small-scale systems we build in this manual. They are completely independent of the power grid, run entirely on low voltage power, and are not powering a whole household or city but rather a room, a collection of devices, or a specific device. Small-scale solar is decentralized power production taken to its extremes. Most of the work in building a small-scale solar system is deciding the size of the components and the building of the supporting structure for the solar panel. Wiring is pretty straightforward unless you want a sophisticated control panel. You only need a limited set of tools: a wire stripper, some screwdrivers (including small ones), and a wood saw are the only essentials. A soldering iron, pliers, and a multimeter are handy, but you can do without them.

Happy 19th Birthday, Stargate Atlantis!
On July 16th, 2004, the pilot aired. Here's a handy little primer for anyone who doesn't know what the heckity heck this show is about. Everything is totally accurate, 100% true and very, very serious.
So.
This is the lost city of the Ancients, Atlantis, in the Pegasus galaxy, about 3 million light years from Earth. (The Ancients can go fuck themselves. Long story.) Atlantis is a city/spaceship approximately the size of Manhattan. She's semi-sentient, but not really, except actually yes, maybe, sometimes, totally. The whole city can go underwater or into hyperspace. Loves her humans. Home. Declaration of independence imminent.
The Atlantis expedition consists of civilians and military from at least 34 countries (in later seasons, the original expedition was just over a dozen). In no particular order:
Dr. Elizabeth Weir. The first leader of the expedition. The only adult. Sometimes. Okay, not very often. Is not above a little war crime for the good of the galaxy—or at least, for the good of Atlantis. Left a boyfriend and a dog on Earth, but we all miss the dog more than the boyfriend. Eats UN representatives for breakfast. Is terribly awkward on dates and really good at solitaire. Loves her chaos children. Which are:
Lt. Colonel Suicide Mission John Sheppard. Walked through the Gate and Atlantis said, "dibs". Thinks people who don't want to fly are crazy. Not good with emotional stuff. (He's getting better.) Loves his found space family and would die for them, often literally. Stop that. Also loves Ferris wheels, things that go fast, and Rodney McKay. And no, we don't know how he gets his hair to go like that.
Dr. Meredith Rodney McKay. Four degrees, two of which are PhDs, none of which are in social skills. Smartest man in two galaxies. Used to be an asshole, but got himself some friends who loved him such a stupid amount that he had no choice but to change. Still a work in progress. We love to see it. Blew up three quarters five sixths of a solar system. (It was uninhabited.) (Mostly.) Deathly allergic to citrus. Loves fully charged ZPMs, arguing with Dr. Zelenka, MREs, and John Sheppard.
Lieutenant Aiden Ford. Went ass first through the Gate with a grin and a whoop on his very first trip. One of the youngest members of the expedition. Is not allowed to name anything, ever. Mild case of hero worship when it comes to his commanding officer, which is totally understandable. A cautionary tale of how addiction messes up not only you, but the people around you.
Ronon Dex. Used to be hunted by the Wraith, lost his people in a terrible war, and is now a member of Sheppard's team where he gets to shoot things and beat up bad guys. Doesn't talk much, but when he does, he has something to say. Good friend. Excellent hugs, but have Carson check you out for any cracked ribs after. Is one bottle of Athosian wine away from staging an intervention regarding the Sheppard/McKay situation.
Teyla Emmagan. In possession of the team's one brain cell. Leader of the Athosian people. Will rock a baby to sleep and then go outside where a Wraith is dangling from the highest tower of the city and stomp on his hands until he falls 800 feet. Can either beat you up in the gym or force you to meditate on your problem, your choice. Has the aforementioned bottle of wine ready and loaded.
Dr. Radek Zelenka. Keeps the science team sane because Rodney sure as hell doesn't. Loves pigeons, cursing in Czech, and overseeing the thriving black market underground economy that has developed in the city. (Thanks @shaddyr for that lovely headcanon). Zachránil všechny naše zadky víc než jednou.
Chuck the Technician. Aggressively Canadian. Doesn't have a last name, doesn't need one. Is ALWAYS in the control room, seriously man, when do you sleep? Reads trashy sci fi novels on night shifts and organized a betting pool in 5 different currencies when Ronon was fighting Teal'c. Needs to share his eyelash routine because we're jealous.
Dr. Carson Beckett. The most Scottish Scot to ever Scot. Brilliant medical doctor who is not above the occasional unethical unorthodox treatment method. Sweet cinnamon roll of a man. Beloved by all. Loves his mom and wee baby turtles. Someone should take him fishing soon. 🥹
Colonel Samantha Carter. Member of SG-1. Legend. Awesome. Boss. Absolute BAMF. Punched a Goa'uld system lord in the face once. We all have a crush on her.
Dr. Jennifer Keller. Is very doctor-y, for better and for worse. Was all of us when she freaked out being on an alien planet for the first time, like a normal person would. Should totally have gone on a date with Captain Vega in that one deleted scene. [WE COULD HAVE HAD IT AAAAALL]
Jeannie Miller. Rodney's sister. Gave up a career in science to be a mom. Solved Rodney's math problem in her spare time, with finger paints. Loves her brother even when he's being an idiot. Fanfic canon says: her house is always open for him and certain Air Force Colonels to crash in. Don't you dare get a hotel room. Yes, the guest room has Only One Bed, Mer, what's your point?
Major Evan Lorne. If you are a moron and get yourself captured and imprisoned off world, he will swing by real quick with a couple Marines and bust you out. Co-parents Atlantis with Dr. Weir. Is actually a really talented painter. Needs a raise, a holiday, and a drink.
Colonel Steven Caldwell. Grumpy. Has to deal with Elizabeth's chaos children on a regular basis. Will make the enemy ship go away with a big boom and save your sorry ass in space. AGAIN.
Richard Woolsey. Used to be a New York City lawyer, one of the most ruthless creatures in the universe. His wife got the Yorkie in the divorce. Broke his heart. Is actually pretty cool if you let him do his thing (like get you out of an intergalactic war crimes trial by bribing the judges).
I know some characters and all the villains are missing, but this post is already longer than a trip on the Daedalus, so there you have it.
Stargate Atlantis. A show about wormholes, life-sucking aliens, ancient civilisations, space battles—and family, friendship, allowing yourself to love and be loved, and what it means to be home.
Happy birthday, fam.

What’s The Difference Between Solar Inverter And Solar Controller?
Solar Inverter:
The solar inverter is a power supply unit that converts DC into AC. The AC power it outputs can be used for various types of equipment to meet the needs of users in mobile power supply places or areas without electricity to the greatest extent. The electrical appliances that people usually use in daily life are AC.
Solar Controller:
The solar controller is an automatic control device that coordinates and controls the multi-channel solar cell array to charge the battery and the battery to supply power to the solar inverter load. The solar controller is used in the solar power system. Its full name is the solar charge and discharge controller, which regulates and controls the charging and discharging conditions of the battery, and controls the power output of the solar cell components and the battery to the load according to the power requirements of the load.
Although the solar inverter and the solar charge controller are two different devices with different functions, they both play a very important role in the solar power system.
If you want to know more about the difference between solar inverter and solar controller, please feel free to contact us.

What are the weirdest facts about Halo you know. Like just absurd stuff. I mean there’s the worm mechs but I wanna know if there’s more
ALRIGHT let's see what I can remember off the top of my head before I have to leave for the day:
Once upon a time in the most ancient space days before the Halos were fired, everyone in the galaxy thought the San'Shyuum were incredibly sexy.
A scrapped enemy from the early Halos was a gigantic, lumbering one-eyed creature that they were thinking was a whole species the Covenant weaponized. The Sharquoi would later be used as a forgotten Forerunner weapon in a novel that are hive-mind controlled from this metal crown that will dig into your brain.
It's a kind of widely known fact about them, but the Forerunners as a species reached a point where they were not considered to be actual adults until their bodies had been extensively augmented, and it was a signifier of importance and status to go through multiple mutations over the course of their lives. (Which is why they are so radically different from one another in size/shape/appearance.)
The way the Librarian found out about how the Forerunners genocided the Precursors was by traveling out to where it happened and finding a planet where there was a population of Forerunners that had been surviving without technology for tons and tons and tons of generations. (They conveyed this information to her by biting her, so that the bacteria their ancestors had genetically engineered to contain memory and information could teach her about it.)
We have one canonical example of a smart AI living for a very long time... and it's because he was actually two AIs in a trenchcoat who would switch which personality was in charge while the other one went out to live in the internet-of-things between space tractors and cropdusters for a while to recharge.
Jiralhanae smell. They communicate tons of information through scent/pheromones, and are noted to stink noticeably when they're scared.
The Unggoy are a very musical people. They have a 42-storey high building in their capital city dedicated just to the musical arts.
The way the Covenant found the mech worms in the first place was that the Lek'golo worms were eating Forerunner technology and they did not like that, but then they figured out that SOME of them would just eat AROUND the technology so they had an Arbiter negotiate with them and get them to help kill off the other kinds. Normal Covenant stuff.
Huragok are actually living tools created by the Forerunners for building and maintaining stuff. There were once some Huragok that were used by Forerunner Lifeworkers that could work with living tissue the way other Huragok work with machines, but they were all wiped out. (...One does show up in a book but shshhhh I'm trying to keep this simple.)
Ideas of the "ideal female body" humans have are based on the Librarian's appearance because she messed around with genetically implanting stuff into humans so much.
The way you euphemistically talk about Sangheili groups that let their women fight more than is conventionally allowed is you say they have a "strong protector-of-eggs tradition."
The whole splinter population of Sangheili I mentioned recently that didn't want to joint he Covenant, so they went and hid in a Forerunner structure and succeeded for several thousand years.
The planet Onyx where the Spartan-IIIs were trained was actually secretly a Forerunner shield world. Now that it's been brought back into normal space, it takes up most of that solar system. The inner surface of the sphere will take generations of work to explore because it is so large.

RAGHHH I need to ramble about the Red Dwarf universe/world building bc it's just so GOOD and it just makes me happy-
LIKE- I adore the world that's set up for us. With the idea of human beings taking to the stars and terrorforming and building civilisations on the planets/moons across the solar systems. I desperately want to know more about what life is like on each planet, like we've been told about Io as it's where Rimmer is from, and we've seen like little snippets here and there. We've seen the Ganymede Hotel (I think) in 'Stasis Leak'. I feel like the one we really know the most about is Mimas, at the very least from the books, as it's where Rimmer and Lister first meet. We learn that it's a bit of a party planet, that they have an extra weekday so that people can recover from all the drinking. We know that they're famous for their bladderfish and fine dining - as well as their brothels, etc.
I love this bit of the Better than Life book, because of how much world lore we get packed in just one section, like it honestly speaks for itself AGH-
BUT I WANT TO KNOW MOREEE!! Things like calendars/years on each of the planets. They rotate around the sun at different rates, so how does their calendar adapt to that? Do they have any unique holidays or celebrations? So many little questions-
I'd pay good money to watch a show set before the accident, looking at the different planets in more detail, which I know we might be getting with Rob Grants little project, which should be interesting-
And that the different companies that are set up, like Divadroid and Crapola Inc. (where Talkie Toaster is from), what company made the holograms? What are the biggest/most popular companies in the solar system? Little things like this, that are completely useless knowledge but I just wanna know 👏👏
Not to mention Space Corp as whole- I wanna know so much more about it, like who is in charge, how much control do they have over the universe, and more importantly who the hell wrote the Space Corp directives?? bc they are so goofy- 😭
There is so much more I could say honestly, but I'm so tired rn lmaoo
#red dwarf#i just think it's neat#goofy sci-fi comedy world building my beloved <3#i love overthinking random stuff#tis fun#ramble#sci fi

Hello! I'm looking for an RPG that's set underground with a focus on mining and modern vehicles/technology, in the vein of Lego Rock Raiders and Power Miners. If nothing comes to mind, any systems you know that you think might be easily adapted to an underground mining setting works too!
THEME: Mining, Technology, Underground.
Hello there! I've got a few solo and a few multiplayer options for you, some about mining, some about tech, and some that might have to be tweaked but I think could still fit the bill!
Stoneburner, by Fari RPGs.
In his will, Brokur has bequeathed to you the cursed mines of the Long Belt, its dilapidated settlement, and the leadership of House Grandrock.
However, other dwarf houses seek to overthrow you and take control of the valuable minerals hidden deep within those cold tunnels.
To complicate matters further, most of the mines’ galleries are haunted by fire spitting demons from the underworld.
Cleanse. Rebuild. Survive.
Stoneburner is a sci-fantasy solo-friendly demon-hunting community-building tabletop role-playing game. Inspired by the new school revolution movement, players take on the role of a group of dwarves who must assume control of a demon haunted mine, along with its accompanying settlement. A settlement which they inherited after the death of their distant relative. The game focuses on the dwarves' journey as they navigate the challenges of their new responsibilities, rebuild a new thriving community, and clear the mine of its fire spitting monsters.
Technically the mines of Stoneburner are in space, rather than underground, but I think there’s going to be some similarities nevertheless. The game is a combination of combat, survival and base-building, using the items that you find to create things that will help you hold your own. There’s machine upgrades, expeditions across a map, and problems that will show up every time you take a break. I think it’s definitely worth checking out!
Robo Goons, by Unknown Dungeon.
It is the distant future, humanity has disappeared from the surface of the Earth, and nature has taken back the planet. All that remains are overgrown man-made structures returned to the wild, vicious beasts that stalk the surface, and sentient robots who pick through the ruins of civilization for salvage. You are one such robot.
Robo-Goons is a lightweight, tabletop adventure game where the players take control of randomly generated robots and explore the ruins of humanity in search of upgrades and salvage. The core rules fit on a single page and all that's required is a pencil and paper, two six-sided dice, and some friends to play with.
Robo Goons uses the setting of a ruined civilization, with an added detail that your robots have solar batteries that need to be re-charged. If your robots are continuously salvaging from underground, or even just beneath heaps of scrap, then you have a natural cycle of going down and up again, giving you breaks as you play. The game also comes with a map, which represents the ruins that your robots will explore, with plenty of roll-tables to determine what kinds of places they’re exploring, and what threats might show up.
Astro Miners, by 7 Card Stud.
Astro Miners is a TTRPG about mining in space.
You are an robotic mining worker with a human brain. The only problem is your brain was wiped of all memory. You don't remember your name, your old life, even your sexuality and gender are all lost. You are a robot.
If you can mine enough material you'll earn enough credits to regain your memory and buy your freedom from the company if you want.
Astro Miners is built for 3 players, but if you don’t mind doubling up on character classes, you can probably play with 4 or 5. Since the game is built on LUMEN, I’d expect your characters to be hyper-competent, with plenty of room for upgrading and customization. There are dropships that you can call in order to be able to sell things you’ve found and buy things you need, and you can also buy robots to help you carry things, fight things, illuminate dark areas and more!
Numenera: Destiny, by Monte Cook Games.
This is the Ninth World. The people of the prior worlds are gone—scattered, disappeared, or transcended. But their works remain, in the places and devices that still contain some germ of their original function. The ignorant call these magic, but the wise know that these are our legacy. They are our future. They are the Numenera.
Set a billion years in our future, Numenera is a tabletop roleplaying game about exploration and discovery. The people of the Ninth World suffer through a dark age, an era of isolation and struggle in the shadow of the ancient wonders crafted by civilizations millennia gone. But discovery awaits those brave enough to seek out the works of the prior worlds. Those who can uncover and master the numenera can unlock the powers and abilities of the ancients, and perhaps bring new light to a struggling world.
Discovery (the base game) is mostly about exploration, but Destiny, the biggest and most useful supplement, gives you character options for building and crafting, as well as plenty of interesting machines and vehicles for you to build and use. Numenera isn’t explicitly underground, nor is it about mining, but I think there are plenty of places within the world that you could start building an underground base in, or at least something similar.
DELVE and UMBRA, by Blackwell Writer.
DELVE: A Solo Map Drawing Game is a map drawing game that puts you in control of a dwarven hold as you discover the horrors that lurk below. This 44 page zine has everything you need to generate natural formations, forgotten ruins, enemies, wyrd magics, and ancient monstrosities. It has a simple turn-based combat system, rules for building your hold and optional challenges for a harder experience.
UMBRA: A Solo Game of Final Frontiers is a map drawing game that puts you in control of a sci-fi colony as you struggle against starvation, the void, and the many threats that will assail you from above and below. This 48 page zine has everything you need to generate natural formations, alien ruins, enemies, technologies, and forgotten terrors. It has a simple turn-based combat system, rules for building your colony and optional challenges for a harder experience.
DELVE firmly places itself in fantasy, but it is first and foremost a game about delving underground. In contrast, UMBRA is about mining in space, while fighting of alien threats. You draw cards from a deck of playing cards to find resources and discover landmarks, while combat takes the form of a tower-defense format. There are a lot of supplements available for DELVE, as well as a Cyberspace and a Stations expansion for UMBRA.
Other Games You Can Check Out
Underground, by emmy.
Dark Delve, by Fedmar.

Solar Angel Contact with the Solar Angel
The Solar Angel channels life from the Monad to the lower self, responding to karmic necessities and orchestrating a sequence of incarnations through which the individual can gain evolutionary experience. The Solar Angel’s point of attachment to the human individual is the causal body. It links the mental permanent atom on the first subplane with the mental unit on the fourth. Between these subplanes lies the great gulf that has divided us, since our inception as human beings, and which eventually we seek to bridge by constructing the antahkarana.
The causal body is a sheath that contains the astral and physical permanent atoms and the mental unit. It is the lowest vehicle to survive from one incarnation to the next, and through the three permanent atoms (for convenience treating the mental unit as such) serves to preserve a distillation of the experiences from successive incarnations. Prior to physical birth, life flows down from the causal body to the lower mental, astral, and physical planes, energizing the permanent atoms and sweeping the devas of those planes into action to build the new incarnational form. 29 At the end of that incarnation, life is withdrawn from the lower vehicles, and the permanent atoms are enriched by what has been learned.
For millions of years, the lower self is unaware of the Solar Angel’s existence. For its part, the Angel looks down on its charge, like a hen brooding over its egg, waiting for the first stirring of awareness that can develop into more definite contact. In the Tibetan’s words, the Solar Angel “is in deep meditation for the greater part of the cycle of lives of any one individual, and that it is only when a fair measure of personality integration is set up that the soul’s attention is drawn away from its own interior considerations and egoic affairs to those of its shadow.”
Techniques for developing contact with the Solar Angel can be found in many esoteric systems, whether or nor the concept of the Solar Angel is properly understood. For example, Ron Scolastico’s popular book Doorway to the Soul provides an interesting sequence of meditations that could be used even by people with minimal esoteric training. 31 As the individual invokes his or her Solar Angel, the Angel responds, at first sporadically and then more continuously. Golden Dawn initiate Israel Regardie provides an eloquent description of the process:
The everlasting abode of the Higher Self is the Eden of Paradise, the supernal sanctuary which is ever guarded from chaos by the flaming sword of the Cherubim... From that aloof spiritual stronghold it gazes down on its vehicle, the lower man, evolved for the purposes of providing it with experience—involved in neither its struggles or tribulations, yet, from another point of view, suffering acutely thereby… (S)eldom does th(e) Genius leave its palace of the stars except when, voluntarily, the lower self opens itself to the higher by an act of sincerest aspiration or self-sacrifice, which alone makes possible the descent of the Light within our hearts and minds.
The Tibetan makes a similar point and goes on to emphasize the need for a reciprocal response in building the antahkarana. He tells us that, “as it lives its own life on its own level of awareness,” the Solar Angel “is not always constantly aware of its shadow, the personality, in the three worlds. When the antahkarana is being built, this awareness must be present alongside the intention of the personality.”
Some types of service can only be performed with the Solar Angel’s participation. For example, the Tibetan explains that the practice of white magic requires the Angel’s resources:
Only the solar Angel can do the work of the white magician, and he effects it through the control of the lunar angels and their complete subjugation. They are arrayed against him, until, through meditation, aspiration, and control, he bends them to his will and they become his servants… The worker in white magic utilises ever the energy of the Solar Angel to effect his ends. The dark brother works through the inherent force of the lunar lords, which are allied in nature to all that is objective.
Similarly, in that important application of magic, healing:
The healer who works on a higher level, and necessarily therefore with a higher type of patient; he uses the energy of his own overshadowing soul in conjunction with the energy of his individualised soul, and thereby radiates it forth into the soul of the patient, via both of the auras.
If white magic requires the Solar Angel’s assistance, magic ritual has also been explored as a means of invoking the Angel. The most famous ritual for that purpose was recorded by the medieval Kabbalist Abraham the Jew (1362-1460), but attributed to a sage, Abra-Melin, whom he claimed to have met in Egypt. 36 What is particularly significant about Abraham’s work is that, in a preamble to the ritual, he dismissed the then-customary use of elaborate magic paraphernalia to emphasize a life of prayer and concentration, akin to the spiritual practices of the mystics—or indeed to our own esoteric disciplines. The early 20th century occultist Aleister Crowley adapted Abra-Melin’s ritual to invoke what he termed “the knowledge and conversation” of the Angel.” It is not clear whether Crowley succeeded, but he affirmed that the central role of ritual is “the invocation of the Holy Guardian Angel; or, in the language of mysticism, Union with God.”
Another ritual for invoking the Solar Angel, used by members of the Golden Dawn, focuses on participants’ personal transformation. Interestingly, it refers to the “true Self,” a phrase often used by the Tibetan:
Come forth unto me, Thou that art my true Self: my Light, my Soul… Thou that art crowned with Glory… Thee I invoke. Come forth unto me, my Lord: to me, who am Thy vain reflection in the mighty sea of Matter… Without Thee I am nothing; in Thee am I All-Self existing in Thy Selfhood to eternity.
Yet another includes this affirmation of personal sacrifice and sacrifice and courage:
Let the influence of thy divine ones descend upon my head, and teach me the value of self-sacrifice so that I shrink not in the hour of trial, but that thus my name may be written on high and my genius stand in the presence of the Holy One. In that hour when the Son of Man is invoked before the Lord of Spirits and his Name before the Ancient of Days.

TO THE EDGE - CHAPTER 17.
Stardust sat in the captain’s chair, finger hovering over the command to repeat the message. They hit it…again.
Genesis didn’t speak right away, letting the recording hold the hum of engines and space and the patient drag of his breath. The nothing in those seconds spoke volumes. He could wait. He had time and resources. He was a hunter. Cosmic might not know that, but Stardust did.
When he spoke it was even, his voice deep and unshakeable.
“Fairvell.”
He called them by their last name—by the name that was not shared or charged with all the might of the Solar Court’s worst. It had been their great-grandfather’s name. He had kept it even after he married Galileo and passed it down with Solinoh to each generation that followed. It set them apart and marked them as the traitors they were.
“I am going to kill this bounty hunter when I catch up to you, and I will catch up. Whatever vessel he’s flying won’t be able to outrun me. You will never be able to outrun me. I will take him apart and you will beg me to stop because you’re weak. It’s not your fault. You’re the rotting branch on our family tree, cousin. I’m coming for you and I am going to kill you when I’m done…but it’s going to be a hell of a ride until then.”
They sniffled and scrubbed at their face before any tears could actually spill. It didn’t count if they didn’t fall. It didn’t count.
They’d programmed the ship to filter messages from Genesis and save them. Cosmic hadn’t heard it yet and he never would. They tapped a few more keys and deleted it.
Would knowing change anything?
Would their cosmic bounty hunter be afraid if he heard it? Would he finally do the smart thing and jettison Stardust? Were they more scared that he would or that he wouldn’t?
The stars streamed by the curved window of the ship. They were on course.
Genesis wouldn’t give up, but that didn’t mean he’d be able to catch up. He didn’t even know where to go. Only Stardust knew that.
They leaned back in the seat, one arm crossing their chest to dig fingers into the back of their shoulder. They couldn’t feel the tattoo but they knew it was there. Cosmic checked it now and then, adjusting their course as they neared and the map zoomed in.
The door to the bridge slid open and Rory marched across the threshold, pausing only when he noticed Stardust. They caught the curl of his lip.
“Out of my chair, Stardust.”
They held back a smile and swiveled around to face him. “Again?” they whined.
“Yeah, again. Why do you always do that? There’s a co-pilot seat right there!” He shooed them with both hands.
Stardust rolled to their feet and stepped aside, relinquishing the best seat on the ship. “Does that mean you’ll finally turn on the secondary commands?” they asked, sliding into the other, lower, seat on the deck.
He laughed once for emphasis. “No, sitting there does not mean I’ll turn on the co-pilot controls.”
He didn’t know that they’d gotten back into the system days ago. They tapped at the console in front of their new seat, even though nothing lit up in response.
“Just, stop touching the controls!”
They still hadn’t figured out if he was easy to rile or if he was just giving them the reaction they wanted. “What if you get blown up or have a heart attack or—”
“Well, I guess if something happens to me then you’re out of luck.” Cosmic shrugged, checking their flight charts.
“You should give me the codes just in case,” they pressed. If they stopped nagging him about the controls to the ship, he might realize they already had them. “For emergencies.”
“No, I am not giving you the codes to access the ship in an emergency,” he said very clearly.
“Why not?”
Cosmic leveled them with a stare, not wholly unamused. “Because you stole the ship. Once you steal the ship, you no longer get to drive it. Those are the rules, Stardust.”
They sputtered, swiveling again. This chair did not swivel as well as the other one. “Who wrote those rules?”
“Hm?” He tapped something out on the control panel and then lifted his head, meeting their gaze. “No one wrote the rules. Everyone just knows them.”
“That’s stupid. I gave the ship back. We’re friends now. That’s definitely not a real rule.”
He shrugged, smiling again. “You can ask around next time we stop someplace.”
Stardust’s heart squeezed. They were out of stops and all loaded with supplies for the long haul to Cepheus. “If only we had another.”
His smile faltered, that crease between his brow when he realized what they meant. “Oh. No, you’re right. We don’t need to stop anywhere else before we reach the nebula. We’re only a couple days away and then it can’t be more than a week or two depending on where the loot is.”
The loot. At least he hadn’t called it treasure this time. They’d split whatever wasn’t blackmail material and then they’d split. Would Genesis keep looking for the cosmic bounty hunter even after they went their separate ways? Hopefully not. Stardust would have to give him something to chase…
“Give me another look at the map?”
They blinked at him, taking a second to realize what he meant.
He huffed a laugh.
Stardust rolled their eyes and hopped up from the chair, doing a little twirl to turn their back on him. They dragged their shirt up to their shoulders and tried not to overthink the way their skin felt raw under his attention.
“Yeah. We’re still on course. It’s definitely getting closer. We’ll see when we get there, I guess.”
Stardust let go of the thin synthetic cotton and did another turn to face him again. The ship hummed. Sometimes that constant sound drove them nuts but other times, like when they were staring at Cosmic, they were grateful for something other than silence and the pounding of their heart.
“Have you thought about what you’re going to do after?”
“What?”
“After we get the loot. After you get whatever blackmail material your parents had on your grandma. After.”
Run, they thought but didn’t say. “Burn it? Launch it into a star maybe?”
Cosmic laughed, leaning back in his seat and staring up at them. “Destroy it? You’re joking, right?” He waited but they shrugged and his smile fell away. “Stardust… You could do just about anything with something like that. If your parents were able to make your grandma leave them alone…”
Stardust shook their head, shoving their hands into their pockets to hide they way they clenched. “That was when it was a secret. At least four of the cousins know it exists now.”
“I guess you’re right, your cousins wouldn’t just let you walk away with it.”
They huffed a dark laugh. No, they definitely wouldn’t. “And there’s no knowing if Galileo would honor any deal anymore. It was made a long time ago and… and things have changed in the family. It isn’t the way it used to be. There’s a good chance she’ll kill anyone who tries to use it just for reminding her of it…whatever the hell it is.”
Cosmic nodded, his thumb tapping at the side of the armrest the way it did when he was working something out. “But they might not believe that you got rid of it just because you say so.”
Stardust considered that. He was right. “I guess I’ll film it and send the recording around.”
He laughed. “You would do something like that… I’m not sure they’ll take watching you burn the blackmail material well...”
They shrugged again. “Can’t please everyone.”
He stared at them, as if waiting for something more. What did he expect them to say? What could they do? The bounty hunter sighed and looked past them to the stars outside. “As long as you don’t burn the treasure too.”
They tsked at his use of that word but took a step closer. “You don’t want half of the blackmail?” they teased.
“Oh no, I don’t want any cut of the blackmail. That mess is all yours, Stardust.” He looked up at them, his knee almost bumping theirs when he turned his seat in their direction. The ghost of something serious shadowed his features. Was that worry? “But maybe consider holding onto it? I mean, your grandma probably thinks your parents handed it down to you. You said yourself, you’ve never had to partake in any family business, and I wasn’t exaggerating when I said your bloodline doesn’t come out here. They don’t usually go anywhere that isn’t on family business. I’ve never heard of any of them getting away…”
He wasn’t wrong. This adventure was full of abnormal Solinoh behavior. Stardust had fled the Solar Court. Even their mother hadn’t done that—she had gone into hiding, locking herself in a bunker somewhere in the prime. Their father had left, but he wasn’t a Solinoh by blood and it could be ignored. It might not be. There was a chance someone would go to collect him… or to kill him. Even then, it wouldn’t be a Solinoh. They would hire someone else to do that task. Just like they had tried hiring others to bring Stardust back.
Genesis should not have left the SC, not even to hunt down Stardust.
Was there any chance he was bluffing? Could he still be sitting at the edge waiting for one of his thugs to bring them back to him?
No.
Stardust was a lot of things, but that lucky was definitely not one of them.
They forced a smile and cocked their head to the side. “Are you worried about me, Cosmic?”
He raspberried their words out of the air. “I didn’t say I was worried about you…”
They raised their eyebrows suggestively.
“I’m not.”
Stardust grinned for real now.
“I’m just…trying to give you the benefit of my incredible bank of knowledge.”
They came closer, grabbing the shoulder of his chair and rocking him side to side a little. “What if I want to stay here after our adventure?”
He stared. “What?”
