Now that I'm not out of oxygen at the slightest hint of physical exercise (thanks anemia) I dug out my ancient dance pad to DDR a bit and it's just... so nice... I'm still horribly out of shape but I soooo wanna go back to being able to at least get through the whole noob lvl Max Forever, it's such a fun song, and it's nice to hop around to cool sounds in general.

Also I recently found out the community is a bit more out of sight but still pretty active, so I should probably get some new song packs and a not highly obscure stepmania lookalike to run them. I need more high bpm brrrrr in my life.

I've been good, set up a computer in one of the classrooms and am thinking of installing Stepmania on it, managed to find a DDR softpad in the storage room and thought why the hell not.

Shade Slayers - Harley Softpad

Harley was often considered the softest of the Shade Slayers resident, permanent workers. It had only little to do with the fact that he was a tundra, and thus fluffier than most when taking on his draconic form - though he was perfect example of a friendliness tundras stereotypically had. It also had only little to do with the fact that he was the one looking after the communal sleeping quarters, and only a little to do with the fact that he was their best healer.

No, it had to do with the fact that he simply did not shout or snip at people, no matter how rude, irresponsible, or disrespectful. He merely smiled, proceeded with their business like normal, wished them a good day and happy travels.

Dragons - hunters and visiting commoners alike - considered him a spineless softie who was easy to walk over, too nice to get angry at you, too dumb to get he was being insulted.

That was why some got a little too brazen with him. Tried to haggle for better arrangements or payments. Tried to slink away without compensation. Attempted to sling an insult that would fly under the radar.

In most cases, they'd be right - Harley simply was too nice to get angry. That wasn't to say that he didn't, oh he got angry plenty often. It was just that no one could tell when it happened.

Except when they could.

"So, mister..."

"Talonstrike," the banescale muttered, wincing a little as the bandages were pulled tighter. "You sure you can't use any magic for this? You're a licensed healer, right?"

"Oh no no no," the tundra smiled, patting the bandaged wound with that small, friendly smile of his. "A big, strong, important dragon such as yourself, needing help from a tundra of all things? Perish the thought! I would not wish that kind of shame on you!"

Talonstrike wrinkled his nose, and narrowed his eyes down, staring daggers at the tundra. He was going to-

A shadow fell over him. And suddenly, he started to rethink what he was going to do, as a massive, looming form of Lula stood above them.

We got Harleys scry - I actually finished it a lil while ago, but I had hard time figuring out what kind of story to write up. Feverish ministory was a go!

Harley, as you see, is the inn-keeper and healer, and is the husband for Lula. I love those two, and I can't wait to show you guys Lula (as soon as her scries are done, she's being designed by one of my friends :3)

Sadly Harleys breeding has to wait, we're officially doing 7 projects atm (which is almost half of the current planned dragons), 5 of those being organized by me :'D I don't have the spoons to keep track more of more than that sadly.

DDR Thoughts

There’s a meme going around DDR twitter right now about “What is your most unpopular opinion that would get you stabbed” or something. In what I’d call a non-shocker, not a whole lot of the takes are particularly stab worthy. One thing that has always been on my mind though is the accessibility of the game, and I don’t mean that from a disabled standpoint, but a financial and availability standpoint. Specifically, the ability to play the game easily at home, as the game intended (i.e. with a dance pad) is just so utterly fucked, that the game will always be stagnant without it. A lot of us DDR boomers grew up on Madcatz or Konami official softpads and probably a DDR PS2 mix of some kind. Probably DDRMAX1 or MAX2. Cost of entry there was probably like $230 total if you factor cost of console, cost of game, and cost of soft pad to start. However, it’s how a lot of us got hooked and got hours upon hours of fun out of it. And usually from that, you’d have people migrate to the arcade scene and so forth. We really don’t have a good point of entry now into the home market. Yeah, stepmania is free, but you have to dig a little to find official song packs to play. You can try and figure out DDR Grand Prix, but lord knows if I know how to operate it. You also have to have a pad that can hold up, and the only two feasible plug and play options are either L-Teks which run around $250 and are glorified Cobalt Fluxes from back in the day (but still decent quality) or StepmaniaX pads which are $1400 and you better hope they don’t sell out. Simply put, we have piss poor entry level options (<$150-200) and there’s no option at the high-end that keeps StepmaniaX cost competitive. You can always try to retrofit cab pads, but those will probably cost as much as StepmaniaX pads in the grand scheme, and that’s not even getting into software at that point. Whoever said this game’s biggest issue was accessibility and money had a great point. It just goes way deeper than just arcade access.

Of course! I still follow the #kanezra tag here and reblog any new works that show up. Kanan and Ezra are my favorite Jedi boys, and I'll always love them.

I feel it's important to add that Kanezra is a tiny ship and it gets lonely. Artists and writers create out of love, but they also need support to keep their motivation alive, and that's difficult when you're in a tiny subfandom. (I won't even get into how the difficulty is compounded when your ship is deemed "problematic".)
