IT IS DONE.

And I'm once again using my bass guitar for scale because 1. I still gotta shower, 2. The house is a midweek mess and 3. The weather outside is "reminding humanity of its fragility and mortality" kind of stormy, so my options were limited.

It's so squishy and warm and comfortable, if the kind of prickly you get with wool that has yet to be broken in and bent to the will of its creator.

The pompom is definitely necessary.

It's also surprisingly versatile (I found three different but non-ridiculous ways of wearing it in the first ten minutes) and practical (double layer scarf that isn't long or heavy, but doesn't slide off, combined with hat that can go as far over your ears as your freezing little heart desires). This looked like meme knitting. It felt like meme knitting while I was making it. It might not be?

But yeah, this is over a meter, not quite five feet, of mostly stockinette, knitted with the same self striping sock yarn from the same dye lot. It's the same color from start to finish, but the variation in diameter has it fading from chunky stripes at the tip to pleasantly autumnal static at the headband. Because math, I think.

The yarn is calling to me... It's telling me to... Ignore the dress lying in pieces just behind it and cast on a new project... It'll be so silly yet functional. It'll be so portable. I could knit on the bus again...

Gentlefolk, I‘m stressed as fuck. There is so much going on in my life lately. So I wanted to treat myself to a quickly rewarding little project.

Say hi to Lungauer Sockenwolle by Ferner Wolle. It‘s got silk in it. It is luxurious, soft, smooth. The gradient?! Chef’s kiss. I‘m having the time of my life knitting up this babe at top speed. Socks are my comfort projects.

I'm working from home today, sitting in an online training course for work right now, listening to a lecture and just want to knit my stupid sock ^^ But cameras are on and there are 380 other people from all over the country and I'm a professional, unfortunately.

Finish-it Friday

2 pairs of almost-twin socks - must be finished by May 31. Patterns are “Wear to Work Socks” by Heide Petroski (top) (ah geez I wrote it wrong on the picture) and “Dragon Fire Socks” by Julia Swart (bottom). Yarn is Drachenwoll Sockenwoll Handgefarbt in Wanderung Im Weinberg

A shawl I’m working on that has to be done by 1July. Pattern is “Etienne” by Petra Breakstone. Yarns are a strand of Valley Yarns Southampton (mohair silk lace) and a strand of Merino fingering weight yarn in black with white, purple, and pink color blips.

Going to try to remember to post some of this stuff here. Wove this year for a very dear friend and it turned out fairly well. I used Opal pullover & sockenwolle, which in retrospect wasn't the best choice for a scarf but the colors went together well. I might recreate it in the future if I can find softer yarn in the same colors.

The important thing is that my friend likes it and looks rather dashing wearing it.

Here it is! "A Sunset in Iceland" colorway on Lungauer Sockenwolle mit Seide, from Ferner Wolle. I got it on a sale at littleknits.com but I think they're sold out now. Lots of really pretty gradients in that line of yarn though!

ETA: Ah yep they're out of that colorway but they do still have lots of other pretty ones at half price!

Started out knitting a sock in a pretty self-striping yarn...ohhh look it's a bit of a gradient too!
