Socks! Socks! Socks, socks, socks... (*sing to the tune of LMFAO's Shots*)
As you can see I ran out of yarn *just* at the finish line (because I'm an idiot and just assumed they wouldn't sell sock yarn for less than two socks, but it was a 50g ball and i simply can't read), but decided not to go out and buy more of the grey yarn since it's a) pretty awful quality, b) a weirdly unpleasant shade and c) I didn't want to spend any more money on this pattern. They turned out very nicely from a craft standpoint, I think! I *could* undo the left sock's toe cap and knit that in blue so they match, but I don't think I'm going to. I'm pretty happy with the job I did here, but I don't love how weirdly low the heel sits and how tiny the toe cap is in this pattern - my weird little toes are definitely going to wear holes into the sides of this sock very quickly. Also I personally think the deep stitch chain should run along the middle instead of the bit of garter stitch, because this way the middle stretches weirdly across the foot and makes them look a little weird from above (my feet swell up sometimes and I'm kinda self-conscious about that kind of thing, this probably wouldn't bother most people lol)
anyway, Mum, I get it now, knitting socks is VERY satisfying.
#the weird piecing on the toe just made me realise i actually want socks in that colour way more than i want grey socks lol#and also you can *really* tell the difference in yarn quality between the two from up close#it's so pretty my kingdom for schachenmayr regia 4 ply in all jewel tones tbh#textile crafts#knitting#and now all i have are stockinette projects... guess who's going to waste more time and money probably today#because i cannot be without a fiddly project lately

FO Friday: My Autumn Flowers Afghan.
The flower pattern is from the book "Afghans for all Seasons", from the Wildflower Wrap pattern. But I used six different colors for the flowers instead of four, and added the dark border flowers. The yarn I used is Schachenmayr Catania.

Papa Emeritus II à la the Bayeux Tapestry
Info dump/explanation below the cut
Like all fanfic authors, I fell down a research rabbit hole. You know, you make your character do embroidery because you yourself have recently take it up and know some things about it. But then you realize that you, in fact, know nothing about medieval embroidery. And after a day of research you're like "ah, I must of course try this myself." So, here we are, three weeks later, and one historically accurate-ish project later.
I based Secondo's pose off of this guy on the Tapestry.
I used the stitches (laid work/Bayeux stitch and stem stitch) attested to on the Tapestry. The stitches were worked in mostly 2-ply darning thread from Schachenmayr (because I literally only today found a place to buy real crewel work thread). But the gold, red, and face part of the black was standard cotton DMC embroidery floss.
I actually really enjoyed this project and am so, so tempted to do more scenes. Perhaps the moment when Terzo is dragged off stage? For the dynamic drama. But I might need someone to help with the line work since I can't just trace an existing dude. We'll see

Ranna's Year in Knits
2023's FOs and the current WIP on the needles!
Wanda Vest by Faye Kennington
Socks in Knit Picks Felici Roommates - my own unwritten pattern
Putting the rest behind a cut since it'll be a LOT of photos!
JCL Hats
Socks in Zwerger Garn Opal XLarge Polarwolf 8-fach - my own unwritten pattern
More JCL hats! (The one with owls is the Owl Night Long Beanie by Deja Joy; the rest are my own unwritten patterns.)
Feather and Fan socks (my own pattern which I think I actually did write up on a Tumblr post somewhere? I knit a lot of feather and fan stripey socks now!) in Knit Picks Felici, Space disco colorway
Ebb and Flow by Michele Bernstein
More Feather and Fan socks! This time in the Rock In Rio colorway of Schachenmayr Regia Festival Color 4-fädig / 4-ply
Flash fingerless gloves, for a commission
Socks (my own unwritten pattern again) in Premier Yarns Serenity Sock Prints in the 108 Dn colorway. I think this yarn is discontinued; I found a few skeins of it in my dresser in my parents' house and reclaimed them. It made great socks! These are some of my favorites -in fact I just wore them yesterday.
Kinross Avenue Wrap by Carla Cuadros
Beverly Mitts by Jean Riedlinger
Spring Buds Fingerless Mitts by Robin Currier
Maleme Cardigan by Meiju K-P
Mallorn Shawl by j kolette beckert (This feels like the magnum opus of the year!)
Yet more JCL hats :-D (The owls are, again, Owl Night Long Beanie by Deja Joy and the hearts are Milda by Claire Slade)
Also more socks in Premier Yarns Serenity Sock Prints! This colorway is 801 Lavendar topaz.
More Feather and Fan Felici socks, too! These are the Olive juice colorway.
Rustic Little Heart by Heidi Kirrmaier (knitting a few of these for a school thing but this is the only one I got a picture of before I handed it off...)
Water Lily by Sybil R is the cutest dishcloth I've ever made. I had to fiddle with the instructions after making the first one (in lighter colors) and ending up with gaps at the tips of the petals, but the second one (in darker colors) turned out delightfully and I gave it to my uncle when he hosted us for Christmas. :-D
And last but not least is the current WIP...but Tumblr tells me I've just hit the limit for pictures in one post XD So I guess it's for the best that my Aeria by Linnea Ornstein is not yet a FO? I'll post it separately, it's too gorgeous to wait for it to be finished!

Help, I can‘t stop making small projects 😭
I made a headband from a mystery grey yarn, that smells strongly of sheep when wet and residual yarn from the sunset socks, which is Schachenmayr Tahiti cotton. The fleece lining is also leftovers from something else.
That was a fun 3-day-project. Now socks.

Mr Biggles!!!!
I'm so happy with how this little dude turned out. He's much bigger than my previous ones, so I posed him with my creepy nendoroid doll for scale so you could hopefully get an idea of the size. He's a present for my sister, who asked specifically for him for her birthday (and his face to be scared lmao). She's completely wild about it from what I can tell. He makes me think that the one youtooz are making should have been so much fuzzier ngl. Technical details below the cut!
I worked off the AradiyaToys Kenny pattern for this mostly, but I used the hair from their Butters pattern (which I quickly realized I'd already figured out myself, but I digress) and custom ears and tummy using circles.
The bulk of his body is worked on Schachenmayr Baby Smiles Lenja Soft paired with some brown 4ply cotton for strength, and Sirdar Snowflake and Snuggly Bunny for the other details. His head is wholly cotton (barring the felt) and uses some doubled-up Scheepjes Catona with a random Aran cotton I lost the label for for his hair. I'm continuing to paint over the felt for the eyes and painting on details, as I really like the consistency it provides. I'm so happy with how I can move his hood up and down - my partner came up with that one pretty early on.
I'll probably add some legs because the base isn't too clear, but I'll need to order more Baby Smiles first 😅

More sister-socks!! This time for my friend Andrew (merry christmas @squidaresquishy !!!) I absolutely adore how these came out, and it’s the second time I’ve used these lovely yarns for sister-socks!
Yarn: Schachenmayr ‘Baby Smiles Bravo Baby’ in shades Türkis, Flieder, Goldmarie and Apricot
Pattern: I used ‘These socks are made for walking’ by Fiona Hamilton-MacLaren as the base, but altered the texture, adding the raised purl stripes from the ‘Pauline Sweater Junior’ by Johanna Gehrisch, which I made last year (and again never posted! I should get on that!)

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade Or in this case, you attempt to crochet some cushion covers for some uncovered bolster pillows?
You know how it is, mom died, left me with her yarn stash, etc etc
So we have a bunch of these foam tube pillows around the house, ones my mom had actually made crochet covers for herself. But the thing is... There were some problems with them.
First, I fucking hated the colors she had used. They were these hideous, desaturated denim-blues + mustard yellows, colors that I maybe wouldn't mind on their own but absolutely could not stand together (but blue just does not belong in my color palettes in general)
Second, she had crochet'd the covers shut. So you could not remove those pillow cases and wash them without destroying them.
So I looked at the random yarns I had around, found this green cotton yarn and figured. If I supplement it with black, I could make cute covers for these pillows. And so I did.
I used slightly less than six balls of Schachenmayr Catania for this (colors 0412 and 00110). I only had the one ball of green yarn to start with, I didn't know how much I was going to need to do just one cover but I knew I wanted these to be black+green striped covers. So I ordered one ball of black yarn to start with, just to get started and see how far I could get with those two balls of yarn. Once I realized I'd need like one and a half balls per color just to finish one cover, I figured I might as well do a second pillow case while I was at it, so I'd have two matching pillow cases and hopefully wouldn't be left with awkward amounts of scrap yarn at the end. And so I did that, ordered four more balls of yarn (after taking a multi-month break from the project) and finished these pillow cases
And yeah, these were really easy to do actually. I did considder doing single crochet instead of double, because you wouldn't be able to see the foam through the gaps in the crochet as well, but I feared single crochet would eat up too much yarn and I wasn't against making these pillow cases as fast as possible, so I went with the double
And yeeeaah, I just. Crochet'd some rectangles in the right size, sewed the sides together to make a tube. And to make the covers easy to wash, I left the ends open, tying them together with some yarn. Again, mainly just so they'd be easy to wash, but also, I figured that'd make the pillows look almost like wrapped candies and I thought they'd look kind of cute.
Honestly I think these turned out really cute, my only regret is that the second one I made, I messed up with my measurements and made the fabric too wide, so the cover is way too big for the foam piece. The only way to have fixed that would've meant just completely unraveling the whole thing and starting from the begining with fewer crochet stitches and... I do not care that much. It's fine
But hey, that's one more project completed, whee

🧡 Hazelnut the little bunny! 🥕 Pattern by @littlefish.crocheterie 💕 I loved working on this pattern which works up beautifully and is soooo cute! 🥹 In the original post, the yarn used is a tweed like yarn which inspired me to use up this random ball of tweed yarn from Schachenmayr I had lying about! The bunny head, body and extremities used up 1 skein of yarn and was a perfect stashbuster in my case! 🧶❤️ I did change some stuff, namely added a little tail and made the overalls removable! Definitely recommend this pattern Tags: #amigurumiplushie #amigurumiproject #amigurumidoll #amigurumibunny #crochetbunny #hazelnutthebunny #crochetplush #freepattern #stashbusting #yarnlovers #CAL #haken #knuffel #gehaakteknuffel https://www.instagram.com/p/CnPAzPbLIOV/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
