10 days later.

I'm 60% done.

The dress has not been touched.

My gauge is off juuuust enough that I'm not gonna make length without blocking, if sizing up the bottom isn't gonna have me running out of yarn just before the finish line.

But at least I made the pompom ahead of time.

The yarn is calling to me... It's telling me to... Ignore the dress lying in pieces just behind it and cast on a new project... It'll be so silly yet functional. It'll be so portable. I could knit on the bus again...

IT IS DONE.

(I didn't run out of yarn, yaaaaay.)

And I'm once again using my bass guitar for scale because 1. I still gotta shower, 2. The house is a midweek mess and 3. The weather outside is "reminding humanity of its fragility and mortality" kind of stormy, so my options were limited.

It's so squishy and warm and comfortable, if the kind of prickly you get with wool that has yet to be broken in and bent to the will of its creator.

The pompom is definitely necessary.

It's also surprisingly versatile (I found three different but non-ridiculous ways of wearing it in the first ten minutes) and practical (double layer scarf that isn't long or heavy, but doesn't slide off, combined with hat that can go as far over your ears as your freezing little heart desires). This looked like meme knitting. It felt like meme knitting while I was making it. It might not be?

But yeah, this is over a meter, not quite five feet, of mostly stockinette, knitted with the same self striping sock yarn from the same dye lot. It's the same color from start to finish, but the variation in diameter has it fading from chunky stripes at the tip to pleasantly autumnal static at the headband. Because math, I think.
