IM fandom got me actin up cause I wasn't even gonna say anything about this chapter lmao
So let's tall about it
Chapter 349: Imperfect Parents
It is not lost on me in the slightest that we're using plural nouns in this title instead of just referring to one parent. I can't imagine why.
Okay so, I'm fully understanding of why people are upset with this chapter and I get that we were so close to a good ending for the boys but-
Canola is right.
I'm not sorry she absolutely is right about this and we gotta address it now. Putting this on the record here and not just on the discord where I already went over all of this.
Let's start with the beginning.
Canola makes it clear that no minor should be in Felix's care, and upon inquiring we are given a very clear reason as to why.
And she is correct. When the Labyrinth chapters were dropping I need it to be made clear I had no patience for any of the Questers' actions regarding this scene. Every last one of them knew damn well Boris shouldn't have gone in there and they still let him regardless. The fact that Cuphead was the only one who had his wits about him enough to say no is embarrassing because when the fuck did he become the reasonable one amongst the group? Why were Leticia and Cuphead the ONLY ADULTS WHO REALIZED THAT BORIS WAS A CHILD
Everyone knew about the children going missing in Fairmont. Everyone knew how dangerous this was but because Boris didn't look like he was traumatized by the other previous quests everyone decided that he was mature enough to handle this quest. The problem lies in the fact that the Questers treat Boris like he's 25 when he's only 14. Not only that, but unlike everyone else who was going into the Labyrinth Boris was DEFENSELESS. He didn't have any real means of saving himself, and given what was in the Labyrinth? Do y'all really think a pipe was going to save his ass? The only reason why Boris lived was because Sarah used him to escape Fairmont, that's it. Otherwise he very well could have fucking died in there and then guess whose fucking fault THAT would have been
In the context of this particular conversation it doesn't matter that Canola doesn't have the full context because she doesn't need it. I said this on the discord and I'll say it again here. Every excuse and reason that people are giving for why things happened the way they did is a NAIL in Felix's coffin preventing him from adopting Boris, not a boon in his favor. These are grown ass adults, they do not need protection from their stupidity and negligence. Because let it be understood, when Canola says "Felix's isn't equipped to care for any minor" she means because of this very reason. Because what the Questers did here was negligence and child endangerment, plain and simple.
If Felix is genuinely serious about adopting Boris he needs to understand that simply listing all the problems he has isn't good enough. You're not being graded for a damn test here, no one cares about your impassioned speech about how much you love and care for those boys after everything they've gone through; it's a nice sentiment, but absolutely meaningless in the grand scheme of the conversation he's having with Canola.
Fundamentally what a social worker like Canola is asking of Felix is: with the behavioral issues and trauma this child has, can you really look after them and give them the proper care they need? Can you guarantee them a safe environment to heal and process their trauma? Can you put your foot down and reprimand Boris when he's out of line?
All of these are necessary questions to ask and all of these questions Felix has failed even before the idea of adoption occurred to him.
Things are not going to get better unless a change is made in the dynamic of the quest group. Everybody, not just Felix, has to stop treating Boris like he's an adult and recognize him for the traumatized child he is. And that means putting their foot down and Boris actually experiencing repercussions for things he does without adult guidance and supervision. Something he dearly needed during the TalentTown arc and was denied by everyone in the group who turned a blind eye to it, not because the don't care about him, but because none of them are truly equipped to deal with a child.
I don't think all hope is lost for Boris to be clear, but I am saying a change absolutely needs to happen in the group and soon if they don't want Boris getting separated. If they care, they'll do it without hesitation.

Gríðr
Gríðr the Helper, Jötunn
Appearance: Gríðr is a middle-aged woman, closest in age to Jörð. She has steel-colored eyes, copper-colored hair, and pale skin with Lichtenburg figures from past experiments burned into it. She is quite proud of these and accentuates them with makeup. Her horns are made of iron, and she crafted them and attached them to her skull so she would have a good place to hang things out of the way. Her face is often described as severe.
Relationships: Gríðr is a person who is fundamentally focused on her work. She married Odin in exchange for funding for her research and their marriage included a contract stating they would only have one child and that he would let her attempt to have said child using a Sejd made with his blood instead of laying together. (Odin allowed this because he wanted to see if it would work.) This experiment resulted in her son Víðarr the Silent who she is surprisingly close with despite both their personalities.
Privately she regards Frigg as her financial auditor and Gunnlöð as an assistant. However, she is very kind to Rindr. She also feels indebted to Loki due to him acquiring rare and expensive research materials by illicit means for her many times.
Personality: Gríðr has a cold and forward personality. She is uninterested in anything but her research and considers relationships a waste of time. However, as a result of this, she is one of the strongest supporters of Norse women pursuing their interests. She only married Odin for funding for her research, something she has never hidden, much to Frigg’s disbelief. She gets along surprisingly well with Jörð.
As a mother she is kind but strict, helping her son develop his sign language after he chose to stop speaking but at the same time refusing to allow him leniency in his studies while he adjusted. She considers knowledge and the mind to be extremely valuable and hates to see children being held back, which is one of the sins she often cites when lecturing Odin on his actions regarding Rindr.
Powers: Gríðr is a master magician and creator of magical technology. She has created many magical artifacts, including some used by Thor. She is skilled at math and engineering, as well as smithing and other crafting methods. Gríðr often plays the role of the wise woman for questers, providing invaluable materials or knowledge. She is extremely smart and is familiar with many ancient forms of magic. As a craftswoman, she is surprisingly strong.
History: Gríðr has been associating with the Aesir since before Frigg married in, providing tools and advice as needed. She did not marry Odin till much later, right after all the gods united to form Valhalla, and this was made as a business decision on her part. Frigg, however, regarded this as a great betrayal. In reality, Odin mostly married her to keep her and her skills from being scooped up by another pantheon. Gríðr often keeps her correspondence with others in written form having little interest in socializing. She employs numerous apprentices and assistants to oversee the care of the Norse’s stock of magical artifacts and their upkeep. She also frequently takes trips to Midgard for research materials and rare stones, especially after Rindr marries Odin.
Trivia: Gríðr made many pieces of Rindr’s jewelry and imbued them with magical properties in the hopes they would help her recover.

All of your questions are brain puzzlers my guy- this one in the form of comedic philosophy.
A monk priest who became a pirate = someone who lost faith, stumbled down, dark humor. Could be funny, especially if they still mostly act like they did before, they are just mostly in a new setting. The others still ask him religious questions. Deep sighs- “Well according to the holy texts…” “That’s shit.” “Why do you think I am here?” Shakes bottle.
A pirate who became a monk/priest = Found faith? Could be very wholesome, down to earth dude. Humor in the priest that still swears like a sailor. The only one the pirates will go to confession for. Will absolutely still shoot someone who tries to rob his church/village. “I’m a priest, not a saint.”
Could also be there because priests are honestly making more money then he ever did as a pirate- in which case it is social commentary, and if he keeps trying to convince his former crew mates to join him, it becomes hilarious.
Like, again… what type of humor you going for here? Which would be more fun for YOU specifically to play? As a quester in a party… the first might be easier to logic traveling with people?

Zebee, in honor of WBW, tell me about some interesting factions in your world, so we can assign our OCs to the fake astrology of your factions :D
Thank you for the ask Amaiguri! (^v^)
So first of all I'm sure for neither of my worlds there will ever be an exhaustive list of factions. ('^.^) I often have too many ideas and never enough reservations about adding them lol. That being said there are a few in either world that I feel can adequately fulfil the need for any OCs' faction astrology assignment. (>v<)
Digitally Dead
The Association
To those outside of the Undercity, the Association might seem like a massive organized crime syndicate. And they'd be right! Despite that this group is an essential part of the concrete jungle's ecosystem. In large portions of the Undercity they provide a level of organization and order that simply wouldn't exist without otherwise. Most members join because they genuinely want to help their community... and get paid to do it. Widely the members care deeply about family, dedicated work, community, and their own brand of honor.
Chemical Phoenix
While a completely decentralized and often subject to infighting, this hacking group has a sort of shared subculture. In this community they earn their username, named based mostly off of insects and sometimes other animals, by literally stealing it from their predecessor through a mix of out competing them and dangerous battles over the dream-net. Members are among the most tech savvy, creative, and truly chaotic memesters around. Despite more or less being glorified shitposters most of the time, they genuinely appreciate dedication to their craft. Whether it be massive hacking operations to cripple shady corporations or elaborate pranks on the public.
[Note: In this world there is a big push for individuality, so don't feel restricted to these two. These just happen to be the two I had aesthetics vaguely set for lol]
Guildergate
Imperial Quester Guild
The Imperial Quester Guild was directly formed by the first Flonese Emperor Juno Ereuson after being inspired by the Farender traveler culture. This guild was created to raise and sponsor capable adventurer-warriors, known as Questers, to deal with any number of issues that may arise across the expansive empire. Especially along the Imperial frontiers where legions are more occupied with the protection of the loose borders around the Empire over other possible threats. This guild is somewhat decentralized into guild houses that take on local requests for dealing with any dangers, exploring, and any number of other 'quests'. The people who become Questers are typically adventurous and bold. They value experience and often take great joy in facing the unknown head on. They are usually easy to identify while between quests because they carry all of their equipment and supplies with them as they travel. This usually features a bag, bedroll, weapons, tools, and sometimes the odd souvenir from an adventure.
Goldport Merchant Guild
When the Flonese Empire began landing it's legions along the Tenebic coast, one of the first cities they arrived at was the mercantile City of Goldport. Instead of a violent conquering the city's reigning matriarch, Lady Anastasia Lucinda Trigg, managed to broker a deal. The city would join the Empire as an autonomous city-state and be allowed to continue it's trade without any imperial tariffs. From this deal the Goldport Merchant Guild was born. It's members are charismatic and cunning entrepreneurs. They always have an eye out for a good deal and take pride in forming extensive social networks even beyond the guild. They have a tendency to dress to their wealth and to make themselves more visible to potential business partners with colorful clothing and shinny jewelry.
Rift Association
The break up of the Naiad Empire was a messy affair. When the quest for immortality that the entire Empire was built around failed in spectacular fashion, even killing their Emperor in the process, it only took a matter of weeks for the entire Empire to crumble. Many Archons and petty warlords struggled for power over the fragments of the Empire rapidly eroding whatever sense of unity might've remained. Behind the scenes many of the Naiad scholars and mages widely began disappearing. These individuals went underground (literally and figuratively) to form the original members of the Rift Association, a somewhat secretive collection of intellectuals who still held onto the old quest of the Naiads. It's membership and goals diversified over time, but they still held onto it's magic and intellectual forward ethos. Members of the Rift Association are usually brilliant in their own way and more often than not a little... 'quirky'. They prize knowledge, wisdom, and out of the box approaches above all else.

Battle Scion (Skald Archetype)
If you’re from western civilization, you likely have at least heard of the story of King Arthur, the legendary fictional King of Britain (actually Welsh in origin, fun fact). Who will one day return to rule and guide the isle during their darkest hour.
No doubt you’ve also heard of his Knights of the Round Table, a group of heroic figures, many of which had straight up magical superpowers, who served the king loyally. It is that relationship with them that inspired today’s subject, giving us a leader figure that is not afraid to enter battle, but also provides support and wisdom to those that follow them.
While certainly not every battle scion is a king, they do at least hold some authority in civilized lands, which sets them apart from the archetypical skald that may hold some prestige in their own culture, but are not normally associated with courts and nobles.
Accomplished statespersons, battle scions rarely ever are at a true disadvantage in a duel of words, and their presence can make standing up to them socially an intimidating prospect indeed.
Do not think that they have lost their edge in battle, however, for in addition to the rage-based abilities they can grant to others, they can also learn more refined combat techniques and grant them to others with their performances. However, such refined tactics take more energy to bestow upon others, clashing somewhat with the passion inherent in such raging songs.
With an oath and proclamation, battle scions have the ability to bestow a magically-compelled quest upon a truly willing ally, which may seem counterproductive, but it does allow the quester to push past doubt and keep going even if obstacles become great. This is as much a binding contract to the skald as well, for if they fail to deliver on any promised reward for such a quest, they find the power of a battle scion leaving them along with their lost honor.
At the true zenith of their potential, these leaders become extremely hard to kill, actually resurrecting from a deathly torpor within days as long as their body is intact and they did not die of old age.
Interested in a skald that has an extra edge in social situations, and some Arthurian elements? This may be what you’re looking for. It only changes a few things, so you can do pretty much any build you like with these skalds, but I’d recommend picking up at least one Extra Performance feat if you plan on taking a lot of combat feats for your raging song due to the extra cost of granting them to allies.
What’s really interesting about this archetype, aside from the Arthurian parallels that normally take a backseat to inspirations like Tolkien, is the use of the geas spell in its original Irish context of being a spell to help a questing hero maintain their honor by pushing them past doubt or fear in the service of their quest, rather than it’s typical in-game use of being a GM tool to get unruly players to follow the current plot. In it’s original context, a geas was meant to be a great honor, for typically in such stories following the geas granted success and power, while rejecting it invited death and dishonor.
An unusual figure in the court of Halan, the strix seneschal Barnik has been a friend of King Hal for a very long time. As the king inducts new knights into his court, he trusts Barnik to provide them with a quest to prove their honor and worth. He also serves as the last line of defense for the King.
Prince Leidrik is dying. Though he was set about to perform a quest willingly, he has come to realize that the task, slaying the giant king Norgradd is impossible for him to do alone, and now the geas is killing him. If a group of adventurers were to assist, however, perhaps he might survive and reclaim his honor.
Seeking the council of the prophets, a magical king offers a quest to the party. Accept a geas to seek out the Cloud Prophet of Skyknife Mountain and hear his words. After much peril, the party will discover the unusual nature of the Cloud Prophet: they are an alien jellyfish-like being called a dreamer, constantly mumbling and musing about things to come in a trance-like state.

hear me out
do you guys remember the EEK EEK sound baby bane made??
I know Ripred expresses very very little paternal behavior but it’s there like once a book especially with Lizzie. and studies SHOW that rats go wild at the sound of a screaming pup even if it’s not theirs, like imagine if you were just walking around and suddenly heard a baby start wailing like it was being hurt?? GO SAVE THE BABY social animals have PROTECTIVE INSTINCTS... so gregor, innocently wondering what would happen, decides to go down he hall from where solavet and Ripred are talking and this kid is expecting to get whacked or yelled at but if hazard can mimic rats why not him? >braces himself for a beating<
“EEK EEK EEK”
in the other room where the adults are talking Ripred suddenly hears the ‘baby in danger’ sound. and obviously would recognize it as gregors voice. with all his PTSD and constant rage-ready state and permanent position as quester daddy It wouldn’t be too far fetched to think maybe, just maybe, Gregor gets plowed to the freaking floor faster than he can blink by a 800lbls rat-daddy ready to kill whoever tried to hurt one of the only things he has that vaguely resembles family and that depends on him.... and realizes that no one is around, and gregor is lying in a fetal position ready to die because he thinks Ripred’s mad at him. gregor gets a good solid swat and Ripred goes back to whatever he was doing. they never speak of it.
but gregor thinks of it. yeah sure he almost got a cuncussion twice in four seconds but Ripred had reacted much differently than he had anticipated. Ripred had actually CARED? Gregor thinks of that moment whenever he’s afraid, or whenever Ripred’s being mean, or whenever his parents don’t have time for him. he knows if worse comes to worst he has the rat to fall back on. that a parent aged adult would come running if he were hurt. inside or out.
this was meant to just be a funny post lol but I did the thing (I’m sorry but gregor like never sees his parents and they don’t have time for him or aren’t well enough to take care of him and don’t know enough to emotionally support him and gregor is TWELVE. he NEEDS an adult to care about him every once in a while instead of telling him to BE ONE. TmT)
#GUYS IM SORRY PLEASE#wtch me get hate for being annoying and having sappy headcanons.#ripred#ripred the rat#ripred the gnawer#gregor the overlander#the underland chronicles#give me a couple days to be pathetic and sappy then e'll get to the science and funny stuff i promise just let me have F E E L I N G S

I kind of accidentally burned myself out with Inky Mystery stuff so I won't be posting anything today either 😔
BUT!
I can still talk about stuff! Soooo...I'm gonna talk about that Cyberpunk idea again because fuck it. And I know I said I would reblog the original post to add to it but like we here now so-
Some ideas:
• Cuphead me boy, has anxiety. Particularly social anxiety stimmig from trauma caused by a lot bad shit that's happened to him over the years. His only way of combating this through wearing that helmet I was talking about in my post originally. It helps him keep his cool. He can get overwhelmed pretty easily when he doesn't have his helmet on.
• Holly in this universe is more of a runaway. She didn't get into college or anything, but she is still pretty smart. She actually meets the Bbros long before the beginning of the story takes place and they've been friends since. She was in the same town as them and was only there to make some cash and then leave. She met them at Sasha's club.
Holly carries a whip with her which is loosely inspired by Lucy from FairyTail because I love her character so much. Anyways, the whip is more like a chain that can extend. It is magical and has a few runes on it to help her in combat. She reads. A lot.
• Felix still has the book thing going on, but alongside that there is the whole zany problem which has far greater consequences than before. It is hinted at in Inky Mystery that zanies aren't well liked to an extent. In this universe, this is taken up a notch to be that zanies are discriminated against alongside magic users. Also he's like...probably pan or something I haven't fully decided yet.
• The year this takes place in is 2020 because I want the questers to say poggers and shout memes.
• I'm probably gonna do Colly cause I'm biased af
• I dont know what I'm gonna do for Fanny mainly because I've only written about an abusive relationship like, two times so...yeah...I have a severe problem with writing a lot of angst and I know I can get carried away sometimes...
• Boris will say fuck at some point in the story
• Everybody will cuss and it will be glorious
• Like Chef Linguini said, "The Cupbros can cook."
• As I iterated before, the cups in this universe have the ability to use their magic but don't usually so as not to draw attention to themselves. This means the cupbros are actually familiar with melee and other weapons like guns. Cuphead as scythe that he carries with him and it glows and stuff and is pretty cool. Mugman, my baby, carries daggers.
• Cuphead is actually a fucking dork in this universe
• Cuphead will pet every living creature he comes into contact with
• Cuphead will get a pet, mark my words
•Mugs and Cala are still a based couple
• 🦀🦀🦀Boris is twelve again!!!🦀🦀🦀
Okay that's it, that's literally all I can think of currently
