Just thinking about Johnny’s callsign being something so common it’s impossible to avoid and after Makarov Simon is literally incapable of washing his hands or showering without having a breakdown.

Like it gets to the point where Price and Gaz are genuinely worried about him because he’s dirty and starving himself to avoid reminders of Soap.

When they find out Johnny is alive they think the problem will be fixed but they all notice that he’s still weird about doing those things. Eventually Johnny asks Price and Gaz about it and they admit he was so distraught and depressed about his death that he couldn’t stand thinking about it and that he could barely shower because it got so bad.

Soap is devastated and he does everything he can to remind Simon that he’s there now and things are okay. It helps to an extent but a little part of Ghost died that day that not even Johnny can bring back, the grief remaining a part of him for years.

Even when they’re both retired and living in a little cottage In Scotland with their dog and two cats Simon sometimes freezes up doing the dishes or showering and Johnny just has to accept that that’s a part of Simon now like everything else he’s gone through.

But unlike many of his other traumas Johnny can at least comfort him with this. Walking up behind him at the sink and wrapping his arms around Simons sweater clad torso, gently pulling him away from the kitchen and tucking him into his chest on the couch, singing him Gaelic lullabies until he calms down and tucking him into bed.

For a lot of people it’s hard to understand how Simon could be anything other than relieved and grateful but he knows if he had found Ghost with a bullet in his head and carried him to exfil only for him to turn up alive months later in a military hospital it would change him too. And even though it breaks his heart that Simon is grieving him while he’s alive, holding on a little too tightly and digging his fingers into his skin, he understands because he’d be the same way.

But at least if it were the other way around he could avoid constant conversation about paranormal spirits. The fact that his name brought Simon so much pain is something he can never forgive himself for.

thinking about artist soap who always jokes about never being the muse. now ghost doesn’t have a lick of artistic ability in his fingers, but he does have money and a long mental list of soap’s favorite things.

it takes a few weeks to arrive in the mail. ghost doesn’t think he’s ever seen soap this quiet. a portrait from oil paint made by one of soap’s favorite artists.

i was attempting to clean this up but i'm just gonna post my rambling ww2 au ghostsoap thoughts instead.

simon writes to johnny's mam after he's sent home a broken and battered man. he tells her what a great man her only was is, how johnny's friendship saved simon in so many different ways.

she reads pages and pages of letters that break her heart because while she may not know this retired lieutenant simon riley she knows her son. she knows what heartbreak looks like.

and then johnny comes home, half deaf from an explosion gone wrong and convinced he'll never get the feeling of sand out from under his foreskin.

his mother sits him at the kitchen table and presents simon's letters to her wee boy. in the silence of the kitchen johnny goes through every stage of grief before looking up at her with that famous mactavish resolve.

he tells her that he needs to catch the next train down to england. now. because simon is there. simon is alive and has been waiting for him all this time when johnny thought that he was -

it doesn't matter. johnny's going.

so this scruffy, half-mad scot practically flies down to the little english village. the train and the bus only take him so far but that doesn't matter because simon is waiting for him, he's sure of it.

it starts raining while johnny tromps towards the village and he has to stop before he gets to the return address he lovingly carefully memorised from the letters. he needs a place to wait out the rain so he pushes open the doors to a tiny pub.

johnny swears that it's gone silent over the persistent ringing in his ears. because there he is. lieutenant simon riley. he's far more scarred and softer around the middle than the last time johnny set eyes on him, but he's there. he's alive.

johnny's heart stops. then takes off at a gallop. he feels like he's wading through treacle as he makes his way through the smokey pub to stand next to the little table where simon is sitting.

johnny stops, uncaring of the odd looks he's attracting from the men sat around simon.

"alright, lt? been a wee while, wouldn't ye say?"

it's not johnny's best line and he's certain his voice cracked embarrassingly somewhere in the middle of his sentence.

simon's head whips around and johnny sees his lips move around the devastatingly soft way simon says his name.

"john. johnny."

he's suddenly pulled into the tightest embrace he's felt since coming home. johnny's spine protests at the grip simon has on him but he doesn't care.

something broken and jagged, long bleeding and painful eases.

johnny's home.

Soap has one really sharp canine, the other one is kinda chipped short but still sharp, all of his teeth are sharp actually,

He bites someone on a mission to catch them off guard and gets his hands free, he ended up taking a chunk out of the guy

When at exfil the rest of the 141 stares at his bloody face in shock and surprise

“What? Never seen how worse my bite is than my bark?” And soap laughs at them as he gets onto exfil as the rest of the task force is standing there staring at each other

Ghost swears up and down he did not get horny from that but soap begs to differ

Ghoap headcanons

Simon 'Ghost' Riley and John 'Soap' Mactavish relationship headcanons

Soap is the most affectionate in public. He always sticks close to Ghost, (minding his personal space, as Ghost isn't one for public displays) brushing up against him. Touches his shoulders, his arms, his back. He brushes their knees together under tables. Very verbal, too. He constantly makes jokes he really, really shouldn't be making at work around Ghost. And Ghost really, really wants him to shut up sometimes.

Ghost is the most affectionate in private. He touches constantly, never lets go. Adores touching Soap- it makes him feel good. Feel human. Brushing their teeth, laying in bed, watching a movie. It doesn't matter where - Ghost has to have a hand on Soap. His knee, his arm, anywhere he can, he will.

Ghost realised he was down bad during the 'alone' mission, when Soap was shot. He was terrified Soap wouldn't get up in time, wouldn't move out the way of the oncoming bullets. He ran and left Soap because he was terrified he was dead, and he didn't want to see him like that.

On the way to the safehouse after the 'alone' mission, Soap went into shock due to his injury. Cue Ghost having to desperately patch him up in the back of the car as Soap is fighting him off, confused and in pain. Ghost holds him down, comforts him, and they end up sitting together, pulled over on the road, listening to the shitty little radio for a while, before continuing on.

Ghost has nightmares of not saving Soap from Hassan. Dreams that Hassan was successful in throwing Soap out the window, that his bullet hit too late. He wakes up searching for the man each time. And each time, Soap is there.

Soap has nightmares too. Nightmares about being attacked by dogs as a kid, and, again as a soldier, of them tearing at his face, mauling him. Ghost always holds him close after these, and is extra careful to make sure no dogs come near the sergeant.

Soap does the same for Simon, when it comes to scorpions, spiders, and snakes. In fact, he has little fear of them, and will pick them up randomly to chuck them away from a dumbfounded Ghost, who could very easily shoulder his way through everything. It still makes him smile, even if Soap can't see it.

Soap's love language is physical touch, and while Ghost also loves touch, his love language is gift-giving. He collects things from every mission. A little stuffed bear, a fridge magnet, a tub of sand. Anything he finds, he gifts to Soap. Soap has a little shelf in his room just for those trinkets.

On leave, they like to drive up to Soap's sister's house and steal his niece for the weekend. She loves coming on trips with them. They take her hiking, to the zoo, to the movies. They spoil her like she was their own child. It's healing for both Soap and Ghost. Incredibly healing.

Johnny eats at an alarming speed, quite literally scarfs his food down without a second thought, a habit he never shook from being in a large family (if he didn't eat fast his siblings would take his favorite parts of the meal first). This however, leads him to having stomach aches often (speaking from experience) they aren't unmanageable, but he complains about them to the 141 often enough for them to make comments about eating slower to fix it.

Ghost on the other hand eats his food slowly and methodically, he'll do a quick inspection of every bite before eating to make sure there's no textures or flavors that will ruin the food for him. It's his own little routine and he find his own comfort in it, so when he and Soap get closer and begin spending a lot more time together he naturally takes notice to the other's eating habits. Johnny would finish his food two times faster than Ghost does, and then as he would sit and chat idly while waiting for ghost to finish he would start complaining as his stomach ache hit. Now Ghost didn't find it annoying per say, but it did bother him to know that it was something I thought he could easily fix, so as they ate next to each other again he started trying different ways to slow Johnny's eating down (without telling him.)

He starts off with trying to prompt Soap into rambling every time he notices the other going for an extra bite, which does work for a small while, but there were only so many questions about explosive devices Ghost could ask before he runs out. Then he moves on to telling Johnny about little tidbits of ""gossip"" he hears around the base when people don't realize he's there, which surprises Soap the first time he offers the information, but it doesn't really stop him from eating quickly since he's in a listening role.

Ghost goes through a good few more trials until he lands on one that could actually work long term, though it came at the cost of his own usual eating routine. Ghost would ask Soap for certain parts of his food, claiming they were the best tasting part of their shitty meals. After Soap would finish the now smaller portion of the meal Ghost would sneak some of Soap's favorite food back onto his plate, effectively forcing him to eat the rest of the meal slowly.

Soap does notice the change, and after a few days he realizes why but doesn't dare comment on it to avoid Ghost stopping their new routine. It warms his heart though, and he learns to look a little deeper into Ghosts behaviors to see the ways he expresses his care.

"Come on, we're headin' back to base."

Soap spoke up while buckling up his lieutenant that sat in the passengers seat, trying to hold back a small chuckle of a laugh. It had been a long night of celebration after a month long mission and of course that place to celebrate that Price took everyone to was a nice pub for some drinking fun.

Ghost, even if a tough and stoic man with his usual gruff tone to everything and everyone was- funny enough, a lightweight when it came to drinking and though John found it funny and almost wanted to leave his lieutenant to deal with it all and probably end up embarrassing himself he overall decided to take the tipsy and drunk fucker back to base to sober up and not make a fool of himself, which was also surprising as the other man wasn't one to make a fool of himself yet this new drunk was a lot different, dare he say the tipsy confusion was a little cute compared to the man's usual demeanor.

"Where are we going?"

Ghost spoke up with a small bit of confusion his gaze going to his sergeant while he spoke even though Soap literally just said where they were heading not even a moment ago.

"Back to base."

He shook off his own thoughts while he started the car, he didn't have much to drink which tha' in itself was a surprise but he was having too much fun watching everyone else and Price needed a break from having to be the one to watch and scout out if anyone was getting a little too drunk, it was good for the old man to have some fun, even if he wasn't really that old. But Soap was quickly put to focusing on driving as he pulled out of the parking and straight to the road, it wasn't too far of a drive, maybe a good 30 minutes.

"Oh."

Ghost muttered a small murmur of acceptance or at least he thought it was acceptance, Ghost was always hard to read but nonetheless he couldn't help but let out a silent huff of a laugh at the man that sat next to him and the drunken bit of confusion while he stared out the window.

"Drinks do a number to ya', huh Lt?"

He let out a small tease glancing over to the direction Ghost was next to him before realizing he wasn't going to play along as he heard his response.

"Hm? I guess so."

Maybe some things didn't change, but that was whatever he was sure he could get his off duty lieutenant to break at least a little on the drive or when they got to base, or at least he made it a small challenge of himself.

Ghost most definitely indulges in baths as a ‘guilty�� pleasure. He enjoys soaking in a nice warm bubble bath. You once even heard him playing classical music.

Soap is the type of person who cuts the crust off his sandwiches. 

Ghost is most def the type that eats the cut off crusts (big boys gotta eat!)

Soap enjoys acting out musicals numbers with you, singing and dancing around while Ghost gets second hand embarrassment. 

You and soap have most definitely gone through Ghosts’ mask collection and tried them on mockingly. “Foap!” you both giggle.

When Ghost finds out you touched his things you blame it on Soap being a bad influence. Ghost would argue that you enable each other. 

Once you three got so drunk you listened to Soap tell you the entire history of Scotland. 

Ghost mains (dry) bowser in Mario Kart and Soap mains waluigi or yoshi (I know bc they told me duh)

Ghost probably has some weird talent that no one would expect like being suspiciously good at the harmonica or some obscure instrument.

Soap cuts his own hair. 

Ghost seems like he has NO TASTE PALATE. Like that mf said “Salt and pepper is all I need”. You & soap bully him about this often.

Ghost is the type to leave a lot of meat on chicken wings and idk why i get that vibe (but it's true bc soap told me.)

Ghost and Soap seem like they would deeply admire you as a friend and teammate. Looking out for you and making sure you are okay.

Headcannon that ghost once getting to know Johnny's family, starts watching over them while they sleep during Christmas when soapghost visits.

He waits till the mactavish clan is all asleep and just....goes quietly to sit on their couch, being a physical meatshield to the front door. He doesn't want a repeat of what happened to his family.

If I remember right his family was killed on Christmas night as he was at a bar. Afterwards settling the house on fire with their body's still inside, the culprit too with his dog tags. Simon Riley died that night when his loved ones did. Doning Tommy's mask and all of that. If not then that's also my headcannon lol

Autistic Ghost Headcannons

- Intentionally ignores social cues

- Scowls all the time at everything and everyone but usually not on purpose

- Takes full advantage of his ear defenders and balaclava to avoid sensory experiences he dislikes

- Incredibly restrictive eating, often chooses to go hungry rather than touch something he dislikes

- One of his favorite stims is smelling Soaps hair

- Gets overstimulated by certain things but is also very sensory seeking in other ways

- Wears tight gloves and sleeps under four weighted blankets because he likes the pressure

- Stims by making a tight fist, chewing his lips, scratching, hitting himself, leaning against things, rocking, pacing, rubbing the seam of his balaclava, tapping his ear defenders

- One track mind, he hates switching tasks and never does more than one thing at once unless it’s a hundred percent necessary

- Wears a mask largely to hide his scars and identity but it has the added benefit of keeping him from having to worry about making the correct facial expressions

- Very prone to dissociation

- Violent meltdowns, tends to have a vicious temper and destroy everything around him, hurting himself or anyone else unfortunate enough to cross his warpath

- But eventually when he’s in private he ends up just curling into himself and crying and rocking like he did as a kid

- It makes him feel incredibly vulnerable and he goes to extreme lengths to avoid the meltdowns which is a huge part of why they’re so bad

- Only Johnny and sometimes Price can calm him down

- Everyone else just thinks he has an explosive temper for no reason

- Ties his boots dangerously tight to get more sensory input

- Thrives under military routines but ignores rules that don’t make sense

- This definitely caused problems with COs in the past but Price is way more understanding and generally the 141 gets a lot of leniency on rules because of the type of work they do and the specific value of their skill sets

- Soap sleeps on top of him and always squeezes his hand a little too hard

- Hides in his room when overstimulated and shuts down completely, will literally disassociate for hours until Soap finds him

- Obsessively neat, nothing is ever anywhere other than where it’s supposed to be

- Doesn’t mind loud sounds but hates multiple sounds at once

- Explosions and gunfire are usually fine as long as he has his headphones but people talking and eating all at once in the mess makes him want to cry

- Absolutely despises crowds and will get very agitated and pissed off before eventually checking out until Johnny can get him back to a quiet space

- Soap letting him have the best vantage point when they go out because of how bad Simons PTSD and sensory issues are and he trusts Simon to watch his six

- Drinks but never to the point of being drunk

- Has the shittiest temperature regulation ever, gets so overheated but can’t figure out why and would freeze to death if it wasn’t for Soap making him put on layers because he’s basically immune to the cold

- Other than keeping his space clean which is mostly because it’s been beaten into him by his dad and then the army to the point where having a messy space will send him into a panic attack he’s a disaster. He never remembers to bring his dishes over to the tiny kitchen in the 141s rec room and routinely stares at things for days unable to complete simple tasks until he gets so pissed he ends up crying

- Price used to get annoyed by it and they’ve all three harassed him about it but once they realize that he’s genuinely struggling all three of them step in to make things easier for him, helping clean up his stuff in common spaces and wash dishes

- Soap definitely helps him with his laundry but only at 3am when he suddenly has the urge to do his own because ADHD

- His interoception is appalling, he’ll be furious and yell at recruits or just look at people like he wants to kill them on missions until Johnny leans over to subtly remind him that he hasn’t gone to the bathroom or eaten anything in eight hours

- Is fluent in BSL and uses it to communicate with Price when he’s in a verbal shutdown

- Soap and Gaz ask Price to teach them secretly and when they start signing to Ghost one day he’s absolutely shocked

- Generally he gets by with everyone else by grunting and scowling, people are too scared of him to call him out

- Most of his masking relies on peoples fear of him even though it often makes him feel even less human and it’s a vicious downward spiral

- Soap not being afraid of him was a really big deal because of this but also lead to him being really freaked out and unsure how to handle his prying

- Soap just finds him impossibly endearing and loves all the hidden little movements and noises he makes when they’re alone

- Lets Simon use his hands to fidget under the table during meetings

- Even though Soap isn’t the best at social cues himself he takes up explaining things to Ghost subtly whenever he can

- When Simon comes to his room to ask him about something someone said for the first time he’s ecstatic and considers it a great victory

- While a lot of Simons stims are more subtle or at least misinterpreted Soap will absolutely get hyped up when he’s stimming and start jumping or rocking or flapping his hands eagerly

- Soap sends him adhd x autism memes all the time and encourages Ghost to send back anything that interests him even if he thinks Soap won’t like it

- Is shocked to realize how strong Ghosts special interests are as his phone turns into a constant flood of articles and artwork about things Ghost loves

- Included but not limited to guns, puzzles, animal anatomy and bones, flowers (specifically the meanings of flowers) and many others

- Taking things apart and putting them back together, usually his rifle but will generally do it with everything from pens to knives

- Hoards weird things like old ink cartridges and bullet casings

- Has an unbelievable memory for details of old missions, can remember building layouts from over five years ago

- Soap’s room is so chaotic they barely spend time there because of how much it stresses Ghost out

- Generally they just balance each other out well with Simon being aggressively introverted and Soap being just as extroverted

- He pushes Simon a bit outside of his comfort zone and helps him socialize while Ghost reigns him in

- No one else really gets how they operate in the field except each other

- Soap was professionally diagnosed in school while Ghost was professionally diagnosed after Roba under a fake name with Price’s help so it’s not officially on his military record

- Ghost is actually very okay with how his brain works because it’s made him who he is and allowed him to surpass the regular limitations of a soldier

- He struggles more in his personal life but being around Soap heals a deep part of him that he’s buried since early childhood

- They understand each other like no one else ever has

Decided not to tell anyone about their relationship for a while but also decided not to really hide it either. They wanted to see how long it would take everyone to realize they were finally together. Price finds out like a week in but keeps the secret. Gaz catches Soap saying “babe” to someone he talking to on his phone and is convinced soap has a secret girlfriend. Johnny eventually just decided to tell him since Gaz won’t stop asking questions about her. Gaz is ecstatic and insists on taking soap out for drinks.

Gaz once catches soap flirting with some handsome, tall, blonde man. Is absolutely shocked and pulls soap aside later in the day to tell him how disappointed he is that he’s blatantly cheating on ghost. Soap has to explain the man he was flirting with was just ghost unmasked.

Soap once gifted ghost this edgy ass knife he came across in some random gas station while on leave. It was kind of a joke so he was fully expecting him to roll his eyes and give it back but Simon was genuinely grateful and happy for the gift. He doesn’t use it because it’s too precious to him so he keeps it on his desk to look at whenever he’s lonely.

Soap 100% plays the sims. He creates sims of him and ghost. They’re married, live in a comfy cottage, and have a cat. (Probably creates the rest of the 141 team too).

Soap loves giving ghost random gifts. They’re usually things he finds and thinks are neat (like rocks). Ghost has them all displayed on a shelf dedicated to Johnny’s little crow gifts.

Ghosts favorite sleep position is to have soap laying directly on top of him like a blanket. Soap doesn’t mind since ghost is practically built like a mattress anyways.

Sneak sweet notes into each others things.

Soap wears Ghost’s clothes as often as possible. He managed to steal half of Ghost’s wardrobe before Ghost decided soap should just move in with him.

Ghost has his own personal bathroom because of his rank. They both love taking baths and showers together. Will drag themselves into the shower after a rough mission and gently wash the blood and grime off of each others bodies.

Ghost cuts soaps hair for him and soap returns the favor.

Ghost runs cold and soap runs hot. Ghost enjoys terrorizing soap with his ice cold hands and feet.

Ghost turns into a mother hen whenever soap is injured or sick. Soap deals with injuries very well but 100% gets “man colds”. Just wants cuddles and love from ghost. Ghost acts like he’s annoyed but is happy he can finally take care of Johnny.

When they retire they will buy a house with a lot of land and make it into a little farm. Some chickens, a cow, and a goat. They both love the job and taking care of the animals is almost therapeutic.

Simon enjoys having Johnny’s body all the way on him when they’re cuddling. Laying on him in bed or the couch and sitting in his lap. He’s ghosts personal weighted blanket.

Decide to get matching tattoos when they are married because they won’t be able to wear rings out on the field. Keeps their wedding rings on their dog tags though.

Always have to be touching each other. A hand on the others arm, a pinky hooked in the others belt loop, thighs touching whenever they are sitting. It’s rare they’re not pressed up against each other.

Ghost can’t say no to soap. Soap is fucking spoiled rotten.

Soap: “babe can you buy this for me..?”

Ghost: “Johnny..”

Soap: “🥺”

Ghost: “FUCK FINE WHATEVER”

Ghost is a child of hades because of course he is, the whole skull mask thing as well as his entire family being dead and him going through The Horrors™. Very son of hades of him.

Soap is a son of Hephaestus. He likes making little machines that blow up and i just feel like it matches his personality well.

In this universe im sticking to the headcannon that older demigods are not usually targeted by monsters since they are too powerful, but adult demigods are very rare nonetheless.

For a while neither of them know the other is a demigod as well. So sometimes when soap is nearby he will straight up just walk up behind him and hold him close so that ghost has the opportunity to show soap he cares

And soap eats it up every time, it doesn’t matter what he’s doing he will stop everything for ghost and to be able to share moments like those with him, it’s honestly amazing

▪︎most annoying person alive, (affectionate)the type of person to fuck with Ghost's stuff or touch him 24/7 because he wants attention and he'll just sit there and pout if he ignores him.

▪︎loves pet names, he'll use the regular shit (babe,baby,love) but he's also the type to call ghost super specific random shit(he's still recovering from the time he thought it'd be funny to call him Skelator)

▪︎tried to cut his own hair once and fucked it up so bad he just had to go bald for a few weeks(gaz will never let it go and brings it up weekly)(Ghost cuts it for him now)

▪︎waaaaay smarter than he let's on. I mean he's a demolitions expert ffs, and while he acts like a dumbass half the time, he's really brilliant

▪︎It's his dream to ride a horse. He just thinks it'd be cool(he would fall off and get concussed immediately)(gaz thinks it's a great idea)

▪︎grows his hair out after a while even though the guys give him hell for how impractical it is when it's long

•his love language is acts of service and when he and Soap first get together he doesn't really know how to deal with him because he's never been around someone so damn touchy before

•such a sucker for pet names, he only ever uses sweetheart or love(on very special occasions he might say baby but it's rare)but he absolutely melts at anything soap calls him(angel,darlin,honey,pup,etc.)

•listens to the weirdest fuckin music. works out to classical, but falls asleep to metal. (Also the whole team loves AC/DC bc I said so.)
