Henry gets jealous because you spend time with Richard
The risk of jealousy - TSH
Henry Marchbanks Winter x GN!Reader
Dearest anonymous, I hope you can forgive him and his denial of jealousy.
The sharp claw of jealousy finally scratches the untouchable Henry.
I’ve always been incredibly particular about whom I associate with. The people around me need to be worthy. Now, I am well aware that my choice of words may make me sound arrogant, so allow me to explain: I want them to have shared interests, to be able to hold late-night debates on esoteric topics, while giving me a sense of belonging and consequently not tiring me out socially. I do not ask for much, really. Alas, one cannot always get what one desires.
The little group of which I’m currently a part of is… pleasant. The twins regularly host dinners which are, of course, the birthplace of many fights and arguments regarding the most trivial subjects that usually end up with Henry winning. Francis unhesitatingly puts his aunt’s house at our disposal whenever desiderium naturae strikes us and amusingly complains about some disease or other the whole way there. I even consider some of Bunny’s jokes witty on the rare occasions when he stops being insufferable. Unfortunately, they all give me a shallow sense of belonging that only manages to make itself felt in transit moments. However, Henry is different. With him, I feel content reading in silence after a long day, waking up in the same bed, legs intertwined under the soft cotton sheets he insists on buying with Apolon tugging at our lazy eyelids or simply challenging one another’s knowledge on whatever topic interests us at a given moment. A continuous childlike rendez-vous.
I do not know why I have been so platonically attracted to Richard of late. When he first joined our Greek class, he did not strike me as someone who would manage to integrate his lowly self into our complexly layered group, or even more, someone who would enjoy my presence. He was and still is flawed and ordinary. However, this normality flowing through every habit, every movement, or expression is a strange refresh in an intangible web of meticulously tangled appearances and facades. Richard is not some ancient scholar buried in paradoxical ideals, Gods-praising rituals, and glorious beliefs, but a modern human. He is aware of the current world, unisolated, present, an active participant. Not only does he attend parties but he also drinks, kisses, and loves strangers. Though an exaggeration to the unknowing eye, he seems to me quite the Epicurean in a cult of Stoics (excluding Bunny).
Despite my writings above which one might foolishly mistake as praise on my part, I must now dive into Richard’s own tendency to fictitiousness. He throws, here and there, long, lavish fabrications (with the aid of which he becomes unconsciously arrogant) and slight inexactitudes he considers too small to pass unnoticed by the attentive ear. And according to my fate and against my trusted intuition, I found myself unable to stop listening whenever he started talking about his (fake) childhood in California filled with swimming pools and orange groves and dissolute, charming show-biz parents, teenage years with a new girlfriend every night, the newest dramas (if they truly do exist and are not yet other fictions) circling Hampden.
There is a quirk. I notice it now, when we’re all standing in the day room of Francis’, or rather his aunt’s, manor. Charles is playing the piano filling the room with gifts for ears, showing off as he always does, while Bunny comments on one rhythm or another, challenging him, fueling him further. Everything is normal, except for one detail that does not escape me. Henry grows more agitated with every single one of Richard’s grant histoires. Albeit, the so-called agitations are rather minuscule, but I pride myself in being able to distinguish them. A small frown, creasing his pale forehead just the right amount for it to disappear just as quickly and nonchalantly as it came, a constant rub of his hand against his limped leg, and a novel proneness to small physical gestures: touching knees, pressing shoulders, his hand on the small of my back or idly playing with my fingers. I settle on questioning him later since I know he will not show any truths of his mind in such large company.
We share a room, since we stopped bothering to hide our relationship long ago from the others. Henry’s already in bed, his nose buried in a book, dressed in his pyjamas, his initials embroidered upon the left side of his chest; H.M.W. If I had been told years ago that I was to be sharing a bed or be in a relationship with the person I suffered the least, the one that I had to compete with in Julian’s classes, the one that knew how to push my buttons I would have died of agony. But now I’m content. I know of the infatuation rendering me blind. My life has become a continuous torture, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to live without him. Just like Zeus who vows to fulfil his promise with a single sacred nod of his head, so am I unable to change the basis of my passion. He is in all my plans. In all the joys the future holds. In the dead of night, in Julian’s lessons, in the summer by the lake, instead of my mind’s eye being fully focused on one specific task, it always switches without fail to him.
I lower myself onto the bed next to him. “You seemed troubled earlier, in the day room.” I ask casually an indirect question.
“You’ve been spending an awful time with Richard.” He responds swiftly, tonelessly, simply pointing out a fact.
I consider my answer for a moment. “I suppose so.” I hum, just as my head hits the pillow. “Don’t you find him intriguing? He watches the news on television.”
“Intriguing?” He blurts out, closing his book and putting it on the bedside table. Clearly, I have his attention. He turns on his side to fully face me, his hair falling over his forehead and slightly over his glasses. “His intriguing part eludes me. You are wasting your time with him, listening to his rambles.” He says clearly irritated, not bothering to keep up his stoic facade. “I assure you, you would be much better spending your time wisely.”
I frown. This is unusual of him. “He is in our class, is he not? I cannot avoid him.”
“Of course not, that’s not what I am suggesting.” His eyebrows remain furrowed. “What I do mean is that he does not bring you any benefit.” He continues in a monotone. “Why must you listen to him with the same attention and interest as you listen to me?”
Ah, I see. Henry is jealous.
“Is this jealousy?” I ask attempting desperately to restrain the slight smile forming on my face.
“You are mistaken.” He ‘corrects’ me sharply, raising his eyebrows. “I am merely stating that I see no point in your interactions with Richard when you could gain much more from being in my presence.”
I raise a sceptical eyebrow. He acts as if I wouldn’t mourn his death in the same way Achilles mourned Patroclus’, with rage and violence.
Words are imperfect communication devices, so I pull him down by the back of his neck and press my lips against his in a pleasant normality. I feel him slightly relax against me, his hand resting on my neck.
“Henry,” I mumble as we part, forcefully stretching our souls apart. I remove his glasses and place them down next to us and his forehead naturally falls against mine “you know better than to have such doubts.”
“I do.” He mumbles back, not bothering to deny his feelings anymore. “However, it proves to be quite difficult to not have them when-” He stops considering his words. “When you plague me so. There is no day or night in which your existence takes mercy on me and does not destroy the little rationality I have left.” He lowers himself down on the bed next to me. “You inexplicably and absurdly manage to be and eradicate my sanity.” He sighs. “And it certainly does not help when you look at Richard with the same eyes you look at me.” Henry mutters.
My hand finds his and I chuckle. “I’d argue I look at him with entirely different eyes.” At my comment, Henry raises an amused eyebrow. “Perhaps you’ll stop seeing shadows where there are none.”
That is all he needs to defeat his insomnia in my arms once again and to fall prey to sleep’s vicious grasp his body indistinguishable from mine under the sheets, sharing one breath.

Snape's Retirement Headcanon:
In an alternate reality, in which Snape survives Nagini and is pardoned by the higher powers or whatnot, both Minerva McGonagall and he come to a decision: as soon as the aftermath of the war is over, they are going to retire.
And they do retire. Minerva manages to find two matching bungalows somewhere in a village and after a lot of snapping and arguing Snape agrees to move into the one meant for him. They visit one another every day, read to one another, go on walks dressed exactly as they normally would be in Hogwarts and become somewhat of a mysterious attraction for the locals.
The village children don't like Snape at first - he's always grumpy/scowling, hardly laughs, and he looks pretty ominous in his black clothes which he wears even during the summer. Minerva is slightly more welcoming: she invites the children for biscuits and tea and they after a week or two they all call her Granny Minnie and are fascinated by all the things she has in her house and how amazing the sweets she has are.
After Snape catches a cold or something irritable like that, and the children arrive at Minerva's for their usual visit and after they get scolded for having muddy knees and hands (which they wash), Minerva gets up using her walking cane, gestures with it and says:
"Come on, children, we're all going to pay Mr Snape a visit to see how he is!"
And Snape gets absolutely swamped by these loud and hyper village children (including little girls of six with frilly bows in their hair which fetch their plush toys and dolls and place them all on his bed and rowdy boys trying their best to be helpful whilst fetching things and knocking furniture over) who all offer him tea and show him their treasures and babble nonsense while he vaguely resembles the 'A Bug's Life' ladybird. He's obviously really irritated but cannot for the life of him bring himself to chase them away since they obviously mean well. During all of this, Minerva basks in the image and almost gets a stitch from laughing and... well. After some time, they end up adopting all these village kids, deemed a mad uncle and auntie, get invited by their parents for tea and get interested in the small village community state of affairs (though Snape obviously pretends he couldn't care less, which is a big fat lie).
Minerva often says things like:
"Wow, Franny has grown so tall and quite a proper young lady! We'll have to use a warding charm so that she doesn't get into trouble when the admirers start pouring."
"Don't worry, Dylan, you'll look as good in braces as you did without them, like I have told you before... What? Your teeth magically straightened overnight? Merlin's beard, what a surprise! [hides wand] I cannot imagine how that possibly could have happened."
And Snape:
"You say Antoinetta has a boyfriend, now? Tsh. I remember when she was six and could hardly tie her laces... a tidy, neat creature, that has to be admited. Though she had a gift for breaking all of my porcelain... What? He left her for another girl? She was in floods of tears? [drawing wand] Oh, no, no, don't be silly Minerva, I'm just going to repair the sink. It broke recently... [under his breath] And it won't be the only thing that's broken when I'm through with that wretch."
and:
"No, for the final time, Minerva, I don't give a damn whether Brandon wants a cat or an even an ostritch for his birthday. Honestly. [scoffs and adds 'cat for Brandon' to shopping list] Who do you take me for, a fairy godmother?"
And for them, life is good, and they do live happily ever after.

In conversation with Holly Black - The Stolen Heir Tour 2023
PLEASE do not repost anywhere without due credits.
It was so amazing finally meeting Holly in person (and gush about how much I love Cardan and Jude and Cardan. And yes also bargain with her about writing Cardan POV books. At least she listened to me intently and said “We will see about it some day!” 👀)
Here are a few things she answered at tonight’s event:
- Her favourite character is Jude.
- Their favourite Starbucks drinks as per her: Jude ‘s will be Frappuccino, Cardan’s is Espresso (and she added an obviously), Oak’s will be matcha green tea latte.
- There will be another series in Elfhame/Faerie after she finished Book of Night sequel, TSH 2 and one more book. She said we will know if there will be more Faerie books, and on whom, by the end of TSH 2.
- Cardan had more siblings who got cut out last minute because she felt his family was too big.
- Qon serpent track was last minute, all she knew was that Cardan had to be in danger and separated from Jude in some way.
- The above point is because she always intended Jude to figure out how to be Queen on her own and needed Cardan away for that. Because Jude’s character arc had to include her having all the power she always craved and still choosing family and love over it.
- Holly likes hooves 💀
- She wanted to draw parallels between Suren and Jude and their choices.
- She will not write about what Jude Cardan were up to in the years between QoN and TSH because she doesn’t know it herself yet.
- Somebody actually asked if Jude Jude Jude letter had cum splatters OMFG. She clarified that no, they are indeed ink stains 💀
- One thing about Cardan that she feels is the most over looked is the fact that people ATE the snake in the end of Qon lmaooo. She cracked up here 😭💀
- She always wanted to write a character with a tail and this was part of Cardan’s characterization since the beginning.
- Her choice of Cardan in live action - she just wants a good actor that’s it lol
- She wouldn’t write a book on Madoc Eva because it’s too tragic and devastating, though maybe she might add in bits in some other story
- She doesn’t know how to write adult Cardan lmfao 💀 but she said she will figure it out 👀 (internally screamed here because WHAT does this mean??) She also said the sex scenes were short and her editor asked her to make them longer 😭🤣 (she said she does understand what we’re asking lmaoo)
- She never reads her fan fiction because she would feel tempted to change what’s in her mind
Question I asked: Her side characters are as interesting as main ones. Will we see Court of Shadows again? (Round about way of asking more about Jurdan lol)
Holly’s answer: TSH was a road trip book so it was set away from Elfhame and we didn’t meet most of the old characters. But we’ll be closer (or in *she winks*) Elfhame in the next one and we will see many of the old characters (shrugs)

hey i hope everything is going well for you!
could you write a charles leclerc x fem!student!reader where she's revising for an exam and he's beside her aiding he through it and asking her questions and being all supportive when she gets one right or something?! thank you!!
Cw: mentions some anxious thoughts/behaviours, symptoms of some diseases
"No, no, no - it's not that", you sighed as you erased the letters you just wrote in your notebook. The exam you had coming up required a lot of mnemonic schemes, so you were trying your best to memorise them. So far, not much luck.
"Amour, I have your tea", Charles knocked on the office's door, setting the mug next to your books, "thank you", you mumbled.
Charles noticed your posture, choosing to get his swivelly chair from his desk and pulling it next to you so he could sit by you, his hand landing on your thigh so you could stop bouncing your leg, "hey, amour", he called your attention, "it won't do you any good trying to study if you're worried. Let's take some deep breaths, shall we?", he instructed, holding your hands in his as you both breathed in and out a couple of times, "there you go", he smiled, rubbing your palms.
"It's just", you sipped your tea, "I read everything there is to read, but I still don't feel like it is all here", you tapped your head, giggling at your antics.
"I can quizz you! I'll ask you the questions on your cards and we'll keep the ones you don't know so well on the side and go back to then in due time", Charles said as he grabbed the flashcards.
"That is hypothyroidism!", you smiled, finally getting the last fact you needed, "to make the right diagnosis, we need to test the TSH and the T-4 levels to confirm", you checked as Charles nodded, "well done, amour, you got it right!", he cheered kissing your cheek and putting the card on the right pile.
"You were just bullshiting me when you said you didn't know things, look! The pile you're struggling with only had two cards, and you know all of those", he pointed to the bug pile of the topics you were comfortable with. The smirk on his face was enough to tell you that he was teasing you to get you to relax a little bit, your legs no longer bouncing and your breathing easing down slowly.
"And for the last card - oh, this is an easy one - who is going to ace their exam tomorrow?", Charles held the blank card that you forgot to take out of the pile and questioned you, smiling from ear to ear when he heard, "me!", out of your mouth.
"That's right, amour, you are going to ace it, gorgeous girl", he said, brushing your hair behind your ear, "how about we retire for the night, have a cosy meal and then go to bed early so we can be well rested?", your boyfriend suggested, pulling you into his hold, getting up and carrying you to the kitchen, "I have just the right meal for you, I'm going to make Pascale Leclerc's signature pasta bake and you're going to love it!".
(Thank you for submitting an ask ✨️)

Finally started my TSH re-read after a lot of procrastination!
I read until page 90, I was also taking running notes and making small annotations so it took more time than usual
I didn't want to forget any details I wanted to highlight for when I start the essay
Here are some notes I made while reading (only about Henry)
I find Henry hilarious for some reason while the entire time I was making observations on him
He's so dumb in a smart way! 😭

I finished The Secret History and I have thoughts.
Hi, me again here with another ramble to put into the void - yes I could use my diary but I like the allure of Tumblr. Anywho!
Okay first things first; I adored this book. I've had it recommended to me for years so I'm glad I finally read it.
The presentation of Camilla as 'a deer' is something I could write essays on. Even Richard our narrator acknowledges her place as the only woman in 'a boys group' romanticizes and de-personifies her just as much as the other men in the book he criticises. Camilla, however, is not free from criticism even as a victim of her circumstances. (I won't continue because I seriously want to write an essay on this and I'm not trying to get done for self-plagiarism).
I really want to re-read the book at some point with the knowledge that Richard is a SUPER unreliable narrator. I almost want TSH from Camilla or Francis' perspective but I think it could ruin some of the mystery. (haha get it?)
I also really like that until a certain point I think Henry is a really likable character. Again, this could be Richard's romanticisation of the group but...
Bunny's presentation is also super interesting - especially the fact that he SUCKS! I seriously wonder if he is truly as awful as he is painted to be? (Richard being unreliable n' all). However, I guess because the book exists in a void he is awful because that's the only way the character exists? It's made me think about character representation in writing a lot.
Anyway, if you have any thoughts you wanna share please do!

hello! i've followed you to indulge in your TSH content, having just finished the book and your fanfic Sober II (Melodrama) back to back! (i'm destroyed!!)
i'm wondering if you've given any thought to whether Richard (Tartt's Richard, or yours) is gay or maybe bisexual? he ofc probably would not make that distinction himself - given the time period, or his aversion to that kind of self reflection, or the apparent finality of his relationship with Francis, or maybe all of the above - but it's fun to think about now, especially myself being someone who now IDs as a lesbian after 10 years of IDing as bi.
thank you for your service 🫡
hello! love your username btw. and thank you, glad to have you in the quidfree extended tartt community.
i like the 'tartt's richard or yours' distinction- i would say i do make an effort so that (to me at least) my richard is a plausible iteration of hers, i.e. i do not like to write so that the characters are 'my' versions unless i think the source material is bad (or at least bad in that specific way). but some of my less serious tsh material veers further into the 'my' side of the scale, for sure. anyway all that to say i don't have separate sets of thoughts on 'both' richards, it's more that there's some stuff i'm 100% on being in canon and some stuff i know i extrapolated into the extended materials my tsh fic constitute.
all that aside, i actually do not have strong feelings on whether richard is gay or bisexual. i think both have strong canon grounding and present similar but slightly different psychologies of the character. the obvious thing is that richard is repressing his attraction to men, but whether he's also comphet in his attraction to women is debatable. he's consistently attracted to them and sleeps with/dates them across all of canon, but on the other hand the key female love interests for him are 1) judy, whose interest he doesn't reciprocate 2) mona, who he sleeps with post murder in a fugue state 3) camilla, who he deifies as a feminine ideal and also always lauds the androgynous beauty/looks she shares with her brother of and 4) sophie, who does lend the most credence to him actually being into girls but also is someone he latches onto when his whole group has deserted him and then fails to emotionally connect with despite several years of dating. of course that could be the trauma, the repression, or both! but my point is there's evidence both ways, no pun intended. richard has very distinct ways of thinking about men and women but it's not as simple as one thing- there's his own self-perception/masculinity, his sexism, his homophobia, and his sexuality all playing a part.
you're right that he wouldn't make the distinction himself, though- either way, his canon thought process is very much 'well i'm not one of those' and that's a catch-all. if and when he gains self-awareness it would have to be through a prolonged relationship of some kind, e.g. with francis in sober ii-verse, because one-offs he can excuse and repress. which is why i think once that sort of long-term realisation happened he would think that he had been lying to himself/everyone the whole time beforehand and secretly consider himself a homosexual (regardless of whether this would be accurate).
i think modern day richard would be more likely to call himself bisexual regardless of which option you go with as more likely. you know that quote from obama's biography about reading marx to get with bisexual college girls... that's somehow richard-coded but in the sense that he thinks calling himself 'flexible' or whatever lets him sound liberated but plausibly heteronormative. in any setting francis delights in the corner he paints himself into.

It's been said a lot of times before but I'll say it again because it's true: the country house section is one of the best, if not THE best section of the book.
It's weird to say considering how "useless" it is in terms of plot (there's the Bacchanal happening in the background but of course we know nothing about it yet), and there are many parts that are way more interesting in which actual things happen. Plus, it is quite long, so a lot of pages of basically nothing.
And yet in retrospect, that's the part that stuck with me the most in the end, and it still is one of the first things that come to mind when I think back on TSH.
It was just that vivid. Maybe it's because I've experienced something similar myself so I could sympathize with how Richard was feeling too. I just remember I was totally immersed in it the first time I read it. I really felt like I was there. And even if it did last longer than I expected and I wanted to go on with the story already, I didn't feel bored.
Apart from simply ✨the atmosphere✨ and ✨the aesthetic✨ being on point, I think the main reason for this is that it really fed the illusion, and it made you FEEL like Richard. We knew from the very first page (lines!) that this book was probably not going to be a joyful one. But while they were in that country house, everything seemed fine. Richard was finally making his way into the group, they were starting to be more open towards him, they were all having a great time together, we got to see their little stupid shenanigans which made us know all of them better and me inevitably attached to all of them (Bunny throwing Henry and Francis in the water will never not be funny to be) and they even started daydreaming about the possibility of living together in that house without anything changing in the future.
It was clear even while I was reading it that all those things would have never become true, and that the illusion would have shattered soon. But still a little part of me kept on believing that maybe that could last, because the way it was narrated by Richard was... weirdly hopeful, which isn't something I can say about any other part of the book I believe. It was hopeful, and yet there was that unsettling sense of dread creeping through the lines, because you KNEW the murder was coming soon and everything would end. But just like Richard, I just... didn't care in the moment.
The country house section to me was somehow a snippet into what could have been if they never murdered Bunny- or even before, if they never had the Bacchanal at all. Could things have gone wrong at some point still, for whatever other reason? Probably yes. Maybe they weren't meant to last anyways, maybe they weren't even friends in the first place, everyone has their own thoughts about this. But it's sweet to think about. Now knowing the whole story and how terrible the situation actually got makes those pages even more painful. Those really were their happiest times.
Also I could talk about Camilla cutting her foot too but that's maybe another post for another day before this becomes way too long lol.
Also also the cherry on top for me was definitely that last couple of lines which got to me HARD and make my heart ache still:
There was a ragged burst of laughter; faint, but clear, it floated back across the evening air. That laughter haunts me still.
#the secret history#tsh#henry winter#richard papen#camilla macaulay#charles macaulay#francis abernathy#bunny corcoran#THAT LAUGHTER HAUNTS ME STILL#DESPITE EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED RICHARD STILL HEARS THEIR LAUGH IN HIS MEMORIES#THEY LITERALLY DESTROYED HIS LIFE BUT HE STILL HOLDS ON TO THE HAPPIEST MOMENTS TEN YEARS LATER#i'm unwell#and if love is a thing held in common i suppose we had that in common too#they all liked one another to some extent idc#am i delusional like Richard? yes probably#but you can't change my mind about this#🌻

Fellow Taryn defender here, and I finally read TSH and TPT (I need to wait to read new HB until I can let them consume my life without distraction). I very much agree with your takes, especially this one: https://www.tumblr.com/eerna/758861268889305088/out-of-curiosity-do-you-think-suren-went-waaay-too
It really feels to me like HB (correctly) figured out the majority of her fanbase would rather read about a charming handsome boy than an off-putting scary girl, which does make me sad (not a lot of Harrow or Baru Cormorant fans reading TFOTA, tbh). It almost felt like she was protecting Wren from her readers? like there’s a “correct” way for a female character to “act out,” and it involves being a badass and looking cool and saying snarky one-liners while not actually hurting the male characters the audience likes more than the female protagonist.
Anyway, I did obviously have a great time reading these books but I would’ve been so stoked to get our Rat Girl Sequel for Wren 😔 This isn’t really a question just saying I appreciate your TFOTA perspectives.
Ayyy, always happy to find a like minded Taryn defender slash TPT critic! It is very depressing that TFOTA shares its audience with romantasy fans moreso than Toxic Girl fandoms and is adjusting according to that. Can't wait to see how declawed Nicasia gets~~~

That includes former best friends Lottie and Natalie, and former lovers Van and Taissa.
(aka, me offering up another Yellowjackets Hunger Games AU)
The Killing of a Sacred Doe 🦌 - Lottie/Natalie, Jackie/Shauna, (minor Tai/Van, minor Natalie/Shauna). In progress.
|| Inspired by The Secret History by Donna Tartt || (but can be read without having read TSH)
By every metric that matters, Natalie Scatorccio should not have been admitted to Wiskayok Conservatory for The Arts. She didn’t have the test scores, or the tuition money, or any particular talent or ambition that might have made her a promising asset for a conservatory to acquire. She did have a drinking problem, a dead father, and no other option. So sure, why not art school? It was better than rehab. Or jail.
let the light in 🖤 - Van/Taissa. Complete, WC: 5k.
“Take me home, please, Van.”
Taissa’s words are soft. Not a question, just a destination. They have always been heading here.
(Post finale getting-back-together fic)
Six of Crows / Shadow & Bone:
angelum mortis amo 🪽 - Jesper/Wylan. Complete, WC: 45k.
Jesper and Wylan are both hitmen from rival gangs. Wylan tries to kill Jesper. It goes about as well as you might expect.
(Featuring crazy-in-love Wylan Van Eck, flirting-at-gunpoint Jesper Fahey, and mob boss Kaz Brekker).
Show Me Yours 🐦⬛ - Jesper/Wylan. Complete, WC: 20k.
Wylan's past abuse hovers over him like a shadow. Jesper's gambling addiction binds him like a chain. But as they grow closer, it turns out secrets can melt like ice in the right kind of warmth.
(A character study of TV show-Wylan & Jesper & the way their backstories could factor into the progression of their relationship).
Stranger Things:
Star Star ✨ - Steve/Eddie (minor Chrissy/Robin). Complete, WC: 93K.
Rock band AU in which Robin, Eddie, Jonathan, Nancy, and Chrissy play in a band, and Steve has no choice but to hang out with the most annoying frontman in the world, Eddie Munson. Things escalate when they're forced to pretend they're in a relationship.
Modern AU, fake-dating (kind of).
I Buried a Hatchet (it's coming up lavender) 🪓 - Robin/Nancy (minor Steve/Eddie). Complete, WC: 60K.
Vecna nearly killed Robin before Nancy could take him out for good. Luckily, Robin's too stubborn to die, and Nancy's too stubborn to let her. Nursing her back to health, Nancy soon begins to question the feelings that almost losing Robin awoke in her.
In which Nancy has to do everything herself, compulsory heterosexuality is a bitch, and Robin Buckley is more charming than she thinks she is.
Harry Potter / Marauders:
Burn, Pine, Perish 🎶 - James/Regulus (minor Sirius/Remus). Complete, WC: 33k.
Sirius' family has magically forbidden him from dating anyone until Regulus finds a suitable pureblood partner. The problem is, Sirius is in love with a certain werwolf, and Regulus' romantic inclinations remain a mystery.
James, a pureblood, is nothing if not eager to help a friend.
AKA - A '10 Things I Hate About You' AU in which James attempts to woo Regulus so Sirius can have a chance with Remus.
Lonely Bones 🦴 - Draco/Hermione. Incomplete, on indefinite hiatus, I'm sorry, please stop asking me when I'm going to finish it, your guess is as good as mine, final answers is... sometime, probably, maybe?
Hermione Granger can't sleep. Draco Malfoy can't walk. The war is over, but it feels like it isn't. Neither of them are happy, but maybe the times together are better than the times apart.
Draco is cursed in the battle of Hogwarts with unhealable bone fractures. Hermione is in desperate need of money to bring her parents back from Australia, and when Narcissa offers her a job attempting to cure Draco, she has no choice but to take it.
A League of Their Own:
It's Rotten Work 💐 - Jess/Lupe. Complete. WC: 10K.
Nobody's ever taken care of Jess McCready.
Not until she met Lupe García, anyway.
(In which Jess is oblivious, Lupe is romantic, and both of them are a little bit confused.)
Devour What's Truly Yours 🏴☠️ written in collaboration with the lovely @somebodytoundress - Jess/Lupe. Complete, WC: 37K.
Lupe Garcia had planned to go down with her pirate ship when it was raided by Spanish soldiers one dreadful night. Bleeding out on the deck, she accepted her fate—until an infamous ghostly captain with no name and a haunting face rescued her from the burning ship and nursed her back to health. With no ship, no crew, and no fortune, the solution is clear for Lupe. She‘s going to kill this captain and take over her crew so she may return to ruling the seas. I was watching a movie where main character is a baker when an idea came to me.
Baking with Henry pls! I wonder what cake he'd prefer to try (I once made headcanon about TSH characters and type of cake they would be, and I agreed on tiramisu because taste of it reminds me of his personality)
-Shiro
it thrills me greatly to imagine just how much seriousness he would approach the matter with. i mean, we already know how dedicated he is to each commitment, whatever he sets his mind to, no matter how mundane. but to do something he is so unfamiliar with (rich kid things), and for you? he would overthink and overplan all of it. it would almost be comical.
in spite of his inexperience and unfamiliarity with the activity, i think he'd, rather pretentiously, consider making the most complex pastry just for the sake of it right off the bat, like canelés or a multi-textured layered cake. this is where you would need to intervene, however, and bring him back to earth, convince him to start small. cookies are a little too basic, so what about palmiers? madeleines? mini chocolate-filled croissants out of puff pastry? something along those lines — fast, easy, delicious.
no matter how easy it would be, however, henry would still approach the task at hand with the utmost dedication. amusingly, he will have researched irrelevant details like flour density or something beforehand. therefore, it's safe to say that he will have come prepared, but not exactly for homestyle baking — more like for a french baking academy final exam. and yet, you would appreciate it greatly — it's the thought that counts, right? he would be standing there in an apron (picture the sight of that), his shirt sleeves hiked up to his elbows, and his note-infested diary within reach to refresh his memory on any lost details. it would be adorably engaging.
considering his effort and dedication, you would undoubtedly get a satisfying, and, most importantly, edible result. hell, it would be so great that you'd insist on saving some for the greek class to try (richard would like it most). from then on, i suppose the two of you could make baking a part of your routine, as it would translate as unwinding for both of you. additionally, it would merely solidify your bond ;)
when it comes to desserts he would like to try, i'd say anything from ancient rome/greece. he would read about some sort of pastry in an old book and desperately try to find a recipe for it. something convoluted and rare, characteristically. as for the type of dessert he would be, i agree with you on the tiramisu part — he definitely seems like something coffee-flavored. it makes perfect sense. in addition, i also feel something mildly chocolatey for him, like a pain au chocolat or an éclair. in the simplest form, i definitely see him as a chocolate-covered coffee bean, though. or a stick of pocky, lol.
#henry winter imagine#henry winter x reader#henry winter thirst#indulgent thoughts#astrum asks#this is so very sweet#i headcanon him as a capricorn so he would definitely take this seriously and have a whole itinerary#sorry for predominantly mentioning french desserts#i don't think there would be any of that flour fight romcom bullshit though#he'd give you dirty looks for as little as stirring incorrectly#TBHHH HAHAHHA#you could definitely become the designated baker couple though#bringing cookies to every occasion and shit

the thing with once upon a time at bennington is that... it paints itself as trying to paint a picture of "all" bennington, but all it does is spread misinformation and cut up interviews with people who loosely knew donna tartt and bret ellis. if you want any more proof of that anolik is like... really reaching and unethical, look no farther than her insistence that michelle maitland (costume designer on succession) is the inspiration behind judy poovey. she said numerous times that she didn't know donna, and maybe her car was the basis for judy's corvette, but THERE WASNT A COSTUME DESIGN MAJOR AT BENNINGTON, and she was a theater major, and she seriously doubts donna has a third eye and could know what industry she'd go into like 10 years after TSH was published. anolik published the interview and said maitland is surely judy anyway.

Geeeeeez 🤦🏻♀️. Yeah this was the stuff I was skeptical about. There seemed to be things that could be such crazy interesting details, but that we can’t know the full context of. And they’re just being stated as truths. I hate to talk about this podcast only having read articles about it; these are just my takes from stuff analyzing sections— but I have thoughts on Matt Jacobsen and Todd O’Neal as well. They probably did give Tartt inspiration for Bunny and Henry. Certain quotes and details seem very taken from them. And Claude Fredricks totally inspired parts of Julian and the Greek class.
That said, it seems fallacious to assume there’s a 1-to-1 comparison between these people and the characters. Just because aspects of Matt Jacobsen were seen in Bunny does not mean that everything Tartt had Bunny do was with Jacobsen in mind. Bunny is still a fictional character. She also stated here that Julian was based on her mind running wild and creating a character based on rumors about Claude Fredricks. He wasn’t literally just Claude Fredricks. Tartt also has given a huge list of books that inspired writing choices in TSH and it really checks out for certain characters. Did Donna Tartt use the fact she transferred colleges and perhaps felt like the odd man out in a Greek class when she wrote Richard? Sure. But does that mean Richard is literally her avatar and that they share every thought, and that he came from zero other inspirations— or that she never departed from herself while writing him? That’s such a stretch.
And there’s another part of this narrative that just doesn’t make much sense to me. If TSH is really a revenge story about how Donna Tartt hated her Greek class and wanted to get back at them, and Richard is her stand in to do so… why is Richard so bad? Do self indulgent revenge fantasies typically make the supposed author stand-in just as wicked as everyone else? And he ends up miserable and alone and coming to terms with that he’s not special and that he’s got California in his blood (being from Cali is a huge part of Richard and Tartt isn’t from California).
Again, I can level with the assertion that authors/artists I like are flawed (some of my favorite authors are severely flawed). But my issue here is that some of this immediately jumps out as wildly intrusive (it reminds me of a different interview where the person asks Donna Tartt a really personal question, and it really shocked me that the person didn’t feel intrusive in asking it. It’s like Tartt’s emphasis on her own privacy makes people weirdly bold.). And it definitely seems like many people in the podcast have a story they want to tell and have decided to tell, despite the discrepancies and lack of clarity. Ultimately, these people are like “please be aware we aren’t claiming this is as fact” but they’re still inserting a scandal into the world.
Finally… another thing that’s weird to me is that Tartt’s peers paint this bitter picture of her for using true happenings and facts about them in the context of her fiction, and they view it as a scummy thing. But I mean, she never addressed anyone by name, claimed a character was them, or portrayed TSH as truth about Bennington. Nobody would even know these people now or about their lives if they hadn’t revealed this stuff on the podcast. But then they go on to say stuff about Tartt that is painted as biographical and they use her real name for profit. I guess I just don’t understand how that’s not very clearly doing what they’re upset she may have done. It’s very hypocritical.
