So it’s set in that episode where Abbott goes to a field trip to the park and Melissa is beefing with that teacher from the other school. Reader is a teacher from Abbott and that other teacher takes an interest in reader and flirts with her and tries to ask her out BUT Melissa and reader are dating so if Melissa didn’t like that teacher before, she most certainly despises her now. You can choose what Melissa does as a show of jealousy 🥰

And I did skip a few prompts and wrote this one first but hey you get two fics in 2 days soooo…. Anyway, not edited in the slightest and I hope you like it!

Park Rivalry

“Field trip worksheets, hot off the press!” Jacob says and hands you and Melissa a binder.

“What in the hot hell is this?” Melissa asks and you snort.

“Jacob, nobody needs this.” Barb tells him and hands the binder back to him. “You pulled off a field trip with no money and no help. Baby relax.”

“Yeah, we’re going to the park. Kids don’t wanna work. We don’t wanna work. Ava definitely doesn’t want to work.” She says and you nod as you place an arm on her shoulder as you both look at the binder.

“I never do. And today I get to not work while lounging in my air chair. I love furniture that rhymes.” Ava says and walks away.

“Yeah. So knock it off with the worksheets, or you’re gonna ruin this trip.” Melissa says to him.

“Ya Jacob, field trips are supposed to be fun, not educational and boring.” You tell him as you hand your binder back to him.

“Ah Morton. For all your flaws, I know you appreciate the value of education.” Jacob says and hands Mr. Morton a binder.

“Ah thanks buddy. You’re a lifesaver.” Morton says and then proceeds to use one of the papers as a napkin and throws the binder in the trash. You see the disappointment on Jacob’s face and you proceed to laugh and he gives you a pout.

You, Melissa and Barb get off the bus and you see Ava running around trying to fill her chair with air.

“My air chair needs air, and there’s no wind.” She says, disappointed.

“Try running north to south.” Barb says and you try not to laugh.

“Ms. Schemmenti, a kid pushed me.” A kid runs up to Melissa and you start to walk off with your kids to another spot in the playground, you do hear Melissa’s response and you love seeing her with the kids.

“Oh, no. You okay kiddo? Which kid?” Melissa asks her.

A few minutes later and you see the camera crew pulled Melissa aside and asks her a few questions.

About 10 minutes later you make your way over to where Melissa, Barb and Jacob are talking to the Liberty teachers.

“We just, you know, want to keep things fair.” Melissa tells them as you make your way over to her side and you put your hand on her lower back.

“Alright well you know, life’s not fair.” She says as you, Jacob, Barb and Melissa start to walk away. “You have to teach at Abbott so…” The teacher adds and all four of you turn back around.

“What?!?” You say.

“Excuse you!?!” Melissa snaps as she surges forward with anger.

“The audacity!” Barb says at the same time with a step forward.

Jacob holds both Melissa and Barb back and gives a reply. “No, we get to teach at Abbott.”

“Ya well I get to be lactose intolerant.” The teacher replies with and the Liberty teachers walk away.

“I shouldn’t punch someone at the park right?” Melissa says.

“No.” Jacob immediately tells her.

“You know I thought if anyone was gonna ruin this field trip for the kids it was gonna be you.” You hear Melissa tell Jacob and you giggle. Melissa hears you laugh as you stand next to her. “Hey Morton, are your students having any trouble with the Liberty kids today?” She says and Mr Morton comes up to you all.

“I honestly have no idea. I’ve been angrily texting my ex-wife all morning. She thinks she should get the grill. What’s a woman gonna do with a grill?” He says with a confused tone.

“You’re scum.” Jacob quickly tells him. “Listen, these Liberty teachers have got to be stopped.” He says and you look at Melissa.

“Wait, your students are having trouble with the other school students as well?” You say to them and Melissa turns to you and nods. “I’ve been talking with one of the teachers all morning to try and sort it out but nothing is being solved.” You say with a bit of annoyance in your voice.

“Which teacher?” Melissa asks and you point at the one.

“The one we were just talking too, Ms. Barco.” You tell her and she huffs.

“We’ve been dealing with her as well. And she keeps throwing insults at us.” Melissa tells you while Jacob is pacing back and forth.

“They’ve been insulting you?” You ask surprised and she turns to look at you.

“She hasn’t insulted you?” She asks.

“No, she’s been nice but like I said, they’re not doing anything about their students' behaviour.” You tell them and Melissa angrily looks at the teacher.

“Y’all need to let it go, it’s not that deep. I’m trying to listen to an oral history of oral history, and I can’t hear it over all y’all’s pettiness.” Ava pipes up then puts her earphone back in.

All of a sudden, a red ball comes bouncing your way and Melissa catches it. You all then look at where it came from and see one of the Liberty teachers stepping forward.

“Hey uh, that’s our ball. Toss it back? Just as far as you can. Don’t want you to hurt yourself.” She tells Melissa and you widen your eyes at the comment towards your girlfriend. You surge forward a bit but you get held back by Jacob and you then look at Melissa who seems to get an idea of what to do with the ball.

“Maybe not throw it at her face.” You tell her and she looks at you and huffs.

“Fine.” She says and then kicks the ball and the Liberty kids complain as well as the teacher who just insulted Melissa.

“Seriously?” The Liberty teacher says, annoyed.

“Slow down, you don’t wanna hurt yourself.” Melissa teases and you giggle. Melissa wraps her arm around your shoulders while she gives Barb a high five.

About 10 minutes later Melissa is watching you and Ms. Barco talking and she decides to go and see what you’re talking about. She was about to start walking when she freezes in place when Ms. Barco touches your arm and you both continue talking like it didn’t happen. Melissa balls her hands into fists.

“She ain’t getting away with that!” Melissa says angrily and Jacob and Barb turn to see what she’s looking at. Jacob runs a little to stop Melissa when she started storming off to you and Ms. Barco.

“We can’t have more conflict with that school.” Jacob tells her and she gives Jacob a glare.

“She’s flirting with my girl.” Melissa says angrily and points to you. Jacob takes a look at you and then back to Melissa.

“It doesn’t look like Y/N is flirting back with her.” Jacob says calmly.

“I know that, but it doesn’t matter. No one can flirt with my girlfriend and get away with it, especially a Liberty teacher.” Melissa says and tries to free her arm from Jacob’s grip.

Melissa sees you walking away from the teacher and start walking towards where she is. Jacob sees all the rage leave Melissa so he finally lets go of her arm. Melissa meets you halfway and puts an arm around your shoulders and sends a glare to Ms. Barco behind her.

“What did she say to you?” Melissa asks you and you look at her.

“Not much, we were just talking about what we do outside of school.” You tell her and you feel her grip on you tighten. “But how about we just have some fun. They’re over there and we got the good side of the park.” You tell her and she smiles at you as you continue to walk where all the kids are.

At lunchtime you all walk over to the trees where you put your lunches.

“Ok kiddos. Let’s go get us our lunches and get in the shade.” Melissa says with you walking right beside her.

“Oh thank goodness, let’s get out of the sun.” Barb says while trying to fan herself.

You then all look at the shady spot and see Liberty school there. You see Ms. Barco there as well and she sees you all looking at her.

“Oh, we had to move your little lunches. I hope it’s not a problem.” She says with a fake apologetic tone while pointing to where they put Abbott’s lunches in the sun. The kids start whining at that as you all walk to your lunches.

“That was supposed to be our spot.” Jacob says furiously.

“They threw our lunches into the sun!” Barb says dramatically.

“I have never known evil like that, and I have been to a cowboys home game.” Melissa says and you hold her hand to help calm her down. “You two.” Melissa says as she spots Janine and Gregory. “Where have you been? We’re at war here.” Melissa says and she takes a deep breath when she feels you squeeze her hand.

“War?” Janine says confused.

“With the park?” Gregory asks, just as confused.

Jacob then ushers Gregory to another spot to chat while you and the other teachers make sure that all the kids get their lunch and sit somewhere.

You, Melissa and Barb sit on one of the benches when everyone starts eating. “You know hot PB&J is considered a delicacy in a lot of places. It’s like a panini basically.” Melissa says and takes a bite. “So we’re being fancy.” She adds on and chuckles. You giggle at her actions from right beside her and she looks at you with a smile.

“Ha! Y’all did this to yourselves.” Ava says with a laugh.

“Ava, you’re deflating.” Janine says unimpressed.

“Hey, how are your warm, toasty sandwiches?” Ms Barco says as she walks over with a cold drink in hand and takes a sip.

“What did you say about our sandwiches?” Melissa says while standing up, anger activated immediately. She goes to stand in front of Ms. Barco while you and Barb join her so she doesn’t do something stupid.

“I just wanted to come and ask if Y/N wanted to come join us in the nice shade.” Ms. Barco says confidently to Melissa then looks at you with a flirty smile. Melissa immediately moves you to go stand behind her.

“I’d rather eat with my friends in the sun.” You tell her, half behind Melissa, who is giving a death stare to the teacher.

“You know what, why don’t we just not interact for the rest of the afternoon?” Barb suggests.

“What if I want to interact with Y/N?” Ms. Barco asks while looking at you and winks.

“Like hell you will!” Melissa says, almost with a growl to her voice.

“And why can I not interact with her?” Ms. Barco says and crosses her arms.

“She’s an Abbott teacher not a Liberty one, and most importantly she’s MY girlfriend!” Melissa says with a lot of anger.

Ms. Barco chuckles. “You’re together?” She asks in disbelief and you nod. “Must be slim pickings at Abbott, how about I take you out on a date instead?” She says with a flirty look in her eyes. You and Barb had to hold Melissa back when she began to charge forward, wanting to punch the teacher that just asked you out.

“Melissa, no punching anyone.” You tell her in a whisper. She glares at the teacher while still seething inside but you keep a firm grip on her arm.

“Look, we are about to take our students to the slide, so you all have a nice day.” Barb tells Ms. Barco. Ms. Barco looks at you and Melissa then back to Barb.

“Actually we’re going to the slide right now. So…”

Just as she says that, Melissa scoffs and Barb says “say what?” At the same time.

“Although I’ll make an exception for Y/N and her class.” Ms. Barco says, she just keeps digging a bigger hole for herself.

“She ain’t going anywhere with youse.” Melissa says while pointing her finger at her.

“Oh my god, let it go. This is stupid playground beef. Y’all are being more childish than the kids.” Ava says annoyed.

Then Crystal, Ava’s arch enemy shows up and Ava declares a relay race.

“Winner takes all! The slide and the pride!” Barb shouts in excitement.

“Yeah, so just those two things!” Melissa says and you can’t help but giggle at her comment.

“Today! These two crews: Abbott Elementary…” Ava says loudly so everyone can hear.

“And Liberty rings!” Crystal says and all the Liberty teachers and students cheer. Ms. Barco makes eye contact with you and winks at you. You get nervous that she’s not backing down since she was told that you’re in a relationship, if anything, she’s flirting with you more. Melissa saw the wink and she slips an arm around your waist while glaring at the teacher. You lean into her touch and Melissa sends a smirk to the teacher.

“Will battle it out, will battle it out, park style!” Ava adds. “A relay race through the playground. You all know the risks. It’s what you signed up for.” She finishes.

“And winner gets dibs on the big wooden slide!” Crystal adds and then everyone cheers.

You’re all in a huddle before you have to do the relay race. “Clear eyes, full hearts, elbows out, hip checks, whatever it takes. Let’s be aggressive out there.” Ava says and Melissa nods in agreement.

“Yeah, especially with Ms. Barco.” Melissa says.

“Wait. Where’s Janine and Gregory?” Jacob says as he looks around.

“Oh, who cares? Janine would just slow us down. She’s got little limbs.” Melissa says and you send her a look.

“Melissa!” You scold her and she gives you a confused look.

“Do you want to beat them or not?” Melissa asks you.

“And let’s be real, Gregory’s never really been one of us.” Ava adds.

“Look, we need everybody. I can’t carry this team all by myself.” Barb says

“Mmm. All right.” Melissa says and then Ava goes looking for them.

“Y/N! Why don’t you join the winning team!” Ms. Barco says and motions for you to go over and join their team and you look at her and blush a bit. You weren’t attracted to her but she keeps singling you out, and in front of Melissa.

“That’s why she’s with us! We’re gonna beat your asses!” Melissa tells her and Ms. Barco rolls her eyes.

Ava returns a few minutes later with Janine and Gregory and you go over what everyone is doing.

“Alright, everyone know what they’re doing?” Ava asks.

“Yeah.” Barb says.

“Wait. I want the monkey bars.” Janine suddenly says.

“What? You got a bet on the other team or something?” Melissa says and you have to agree with Melissa.

Janine ends up getting the monkey bars and you all go to take your places around the playground. You know Melissa is going to be standing next to Ms. Barco for a few minutes so you lean into her before you part.

“Don’t punch or kill her.” You tell her and she sighs.

“I’ll try, but only because you’re asking me too.” She tells you and you go over to the hopscotch place that one of the kids drew. As you see the relay race start, you look over to Melissa and she keeps glaring at Ms. Barco and then she looks your way and then watches the relay race. You see Gregory on the tricycle, pedalling towards you and he claps his hand with yours and you do the hopscotch perfectly and quickly before Liberty and then you run towards Melissa and tag her.

“Go Melissa!” You cheer her on and then she tags Janine and you run towards her. Ms. Barco is near you guys and she puts an arm around your waist as soon as you’re next to her.

“Hey baby.” Melissa says and then smirks at Ms. Barco. You both watch Janine do the monkey bars. “Go Janine! Come on Janine!” Melissa yells.

“Go Janine!” You yell as well. “You got this!”

You both watch Janine finish the monkey bars before the Liberty teacher does and then she starts dancing and you look taken back.

“Stop dancing, Janine. Stop!” Melissa yells and then Janine tags Barb. You and Melissa run to the finish line to cheer Barb on and to see who will win. “Go Barb go!” Melissa yells as she exits the small tunnel.

“Wooo-ohh, let’s go Barb!” You shout as she’s ahead of the other teacher. She then starts slowing down, thinking she’s got this.

“Satan right behind you, girl!” Ava yells.

Barb looks back and immediately starts running full speed again and makes it to the finishing line before the Liberty teacher and all of the Abbott teachers cheer, hug and high five each other. You and Melissa hug each other and then you give her a kiss.

“You’re welcome kids!” Melissa says and then you all look around and notice all of your kids are missing, even the Liberty ones.

“Kids?” Jacob says and you all go off looking for them.

“Let’s check out the slide, maybe they’re there.” You suggest and you all walk to the slide. Sure enough they were all there and both the schools were getting along just fine.

“Looks like the children can get along quite well without us.” Barb says with a smile.

“Okay, but her kid shoved my kid.” Melissa says, almost sounding like a 5 year old.

“No, your kid shoved my kid.” Ms. Barco replies back with.

“We’re done.” Barb says, not bothering to turn around.

“I guess the adults are to blame here.” Crystal says. “I’m sorry, soror.” She says to Ava.

“And I’m sorry.” Ava says. “That we had to beat your ass!” She says after a second and all the Abbott teachers begin to cheer again.

“Boom!” Melissa says as she gives Jacob a chest bump, causing him to stumble into another teacher. You and Melissa then kiss again and then Melissa looks over at Ms. Barco who was looking at you two and she crosses her arms and huffs before turning to face the kids. Melissa smirks at her actions, knowing that she got the message. Melissa puts her arm around your shoulders and rubs her hand up and down your arm and smiles at you.

When you and Melissa get home, Melissa begins kissing you roughly and you know exactly what she wants right now. She then picks you up bridal style and carries you to the bedroom.

The next day, Gregory comes walking in, with Jacob limping behind him. Gregory looks at Ava with a cast around her neck.

“Shut up, Gregory.” Ava says while pouring a bunch of sugar in her coffee.

“I said nothing.” He says as he takes in all your injuries. “But I did tell you all to stretch.” He says with a smile on his face.

Just then Mr. Johnson comes in with his pants way up to his chest.

“You all look ridiculous.” He says with a smile.

“Us? What about you?” Melissa says as you all take in his outfit, you try to hold in a laughter. “Where does your waist end and your neck begin?” She says with a small chuckle.

“If that’s supposed to be a pick up line, it’s working.” He says while looking at Melissa and then walks out.

Melissa gives a weird and confused look to the camera and you burst out laughing.

Trying not to think about how the central theme and throughline of Requiem is trust and how this whole arc is making me extremely unwell because I know everything is going to come crashing down in the next few weeks. I feel it in my bones and tinfoil hat.

Like, most of this arc has been about Buddy opening up and TRUSTING CHASE. The entirety of episode 53??? The thorns????? The rose??? The conversation between Deacon and Buddy right after??? You want me to believe that making Dracifer's intervention about TRUST ISSUES was a coincidence? That Buddy's (kind of) acknowledgement that he trusts Chase and the mention of trust issues wasn't supposed to make me think of that one conversation in Beach Boys? I mean, yeah, sure maybe. But since I'm awake before I want to be or should be and start finals soon, I've decided that it's not and this was meant to ruin me personally.

Like we've finally gotten to a point where Buddy feels comfortable with Chase. He feels bad for hurting him even a little bit (shout-out to when he was talking about how he has accidents a lot- specifically in reference to hurting Chase -and I know he was thinking about Beach Boys- like I am). And this chapter really drove that home. We're there. Which is why I know something AWFUL is going to happen. We've had it a little too good too long (as evidenced by the fast passers slowly withering away from whatever Still Waters is doing to them which is honestly frightening). As of right now, the only thing I can think of is Buddy finding out about Prunella- Chase and Deacon's big secret, something Buddy was so sure they (Chase, specifically) didn't have. They hid another key and keyholder from him. Not to mention a whole damn child. Seems like a breach of trust to me. And after all this? That would probably make Buddy a little hurt. More than just a little.

Am I hallucinating? Am I overthinking things and finding meaning where there is none. Perhaps. Mayhaps, even. But, what else am I supposed to do? Be normal about my interests? Behave like an upstanding member of society and pretend like I don't think about these idiots all the time? Please. If I simply prepare for the worst case scenario than the outcome can't hurt me. I will simply be invulnerable to the pain whenever I get to whatever hellish visions the fast passers are seeing.

Anyway, the bones are done cooking and I need a nap. Apologies for another rambling and if you see any grammar issues, no you did not and I definitely proofread this. Have a lovely day.

I hate how long the whole Amy thing is drawn out because I hate her ass. But Sam and Dean making up at the end of the whole thing is actually shockingly wholesome. I may hate Amy, but I do support Sam's right to be upset that Dean went behind his back and lied about it. And so does Dean, because lying to Sam about Amy is something Dean's been feeling terrible about for weeks.

When Sam finds out, he says he can't be around Dean. Dean gives Sam space without protest. For a week and a half, they don't speak. It's possible Dean's tried to call, but we see that Sam hasn't left him any messages (and Dean's been checking). Sam and Dean happen to reunite in "The Mentalist" because they just so happen to pursue the same case (because again. As I am always saying. #sam the hunter). Sam is not sure about working together when he first sees Dean, because he's still pissed, but he's also hiding a smile at Dean's antics almost immediately behind his cold exterior. Dean is definitely laying it on thick with the banter and the jokes (as Leviathan!Dean said last episode: Dean thinks he's a comedian) and no one has been there to laugh or glare disapprovingly at his jokes for the last week and a half (as pointedly illustrated when Dean investigates the crime scene alone at the beginning of the episode and tells a joke to an empty room). Dean jumps right into his thoughts on the case quickly, which Sam probably appreciates as he's been pouring over a bunch of lore and case details alone, and he agrees to work together with only a token protest about still being mad at Dean. Big "you're on thin ice" vibes.

But their squabble is so JUICY. First of all, it happens right after a psychic pulls Dean aside to give him a message from Ellen of all people:

I’m sorry, I don't normally do this during business hours, but do you know an Eleanor... or an Ellen? She seems quite concerned about you. She wants to tell you – pardon me – if you don't tell someone how bad it really is, she'll kick your ass from beyond. You have to trust someone again eventually.

And damn—it's a little messy, but Dean goes outside and he starts to communicate.

DEAN: No, we agreed to work the case. We didn't agree for you to be a dick the whole time.

Honestly? I didn't think Sam was being that big of a dick—he was jumping the gun on a few things, including burning the bones (and they end up burning the wrong ones and someone else dies).

SAM: What? DEAN: You're pissed, okay? And you've got a right.

I love this, because Dean's anger is rarely treated as justified no matter what the cause, but Dean's not going to deny someone the right to be mad at him when he's hurt them.

SAM: Yeah, damn straight. DEAN: But enough's enough. SAM: Says who? Look, I'll work this damn case, but you lied to me, and you killed my friend. SAM turns and walks away.

You think Dean's done? Ohhhh buddy he hasn't even gotten started.

DEAN walks after him. DEAN: No, I put down a monster who killed four people, and if you didn't know her, you'd have done the same thing.

Oh SNAP! GET HER ASS!!! SHE FUCKING KILLED PEOPLE SHE THOUGHT WERE BENEATH HER ON THE SOCIAL LADDER AND JUSTIFIED IT WITH HER GODDAMN MORTGAGE!!

SAM: I did know her, Dean.

Amy is special because Sam knew her, so she deserved special treatment... or did she?

DEAN: Yeah, which is why you couldn't do it. SAM stops. DEAN: Look, I get it. There are certain people in this world, no matter how dangerous they are, you just can't.

I wonder who Dean could be thinking of 🤔 Perhaps the angel he refused to believe would ever betray them until it was unwittingly revealed by Cas himself? The angel who broke Sam's brain who Dean still couldn't stop grieving and hoping would come back to himself after? Whose trench coat he's carrying around in his trunk? Then again... Dean did move to kill godstiel when it came right down to it. There is a connection between Dean's feelings about Amy and his feelings about Cas's betrayal though.

SAM: Don't pull that card! That's bull. Look, if I've learned one thing, it's that if something feels wrong, it probably is! DEAN: Usually, yeah. But killing Amy was not wrong. You couldn't do it, so I did. That's what family does – the dirty work. And I woulda told you, eventually, once I knew that this whole "waving a gun at Satan" thing was a one-time show. I think it's reasonable to want to know that you're off the friggin' high dive, Sam. You almost got us both killed, so you can be pissed all you want, but quit being a bitch.

God DAMN! That bit about family is going to come back and bite Dean in the ass in a HUGE way, but Dean's sorting through his feelings about what went down with Amy, and he's taking a stand: 1) Lying to Sam/going behind his back was wrong 2) Sam has every right to be mad at him, but if they're going to work, they need to work professionally and efficiently—Sam can't just bulldoze. 3) Killing Amy in of itself wasn't wrong. She murdered four people with no remorse, and the kind of favoritism Sam showed her was dangerous.

Dean's also snapping back on the trust aspect of this that's very much in play, because Amy herself isn't necessarily even what Sam's most mad about. He's mad that Dean didn't trust him and went behind his back. This is a little eye-brow-raising anyway because Sam very much went behind Dean's back first, but add that Sam left Dean alone and defenseless while he laid up with a broken leg while creatures from another dimension were hunting them, and refused to answer the phone with the context that he'd been actively hallucinating so badly that he almost murdered Dean and killed himself. It doesn't justify Dean lying to him, but it puts Dean's stress and his decision to lie in context, together with Dean's rejection of Sam showing Amy favoritism.

I said this is Dean communicating, and he really is communicating a lot of new information about his state of mind when you look at this from Sam's POV. Sam has been worried about Dean for weeks, and Dean's been refusing to talk about anything that might be bothering him. Now Dean's unleashed a lot of pent up thoughts and perspective, while still validating Sam's right to be angry that Dean lied. And it actually softens Sam's perspetive toward Dean, along with the case they're working about two sisters that softens Sam further, along with the obvious enjoyment he gets out of working with his brother. So when Dean goes out to his car at the end of the episode:

DEAN: Hey. SAM: Hey. DEAN: That's your stuff. SAM: Yeah. Yeah. I figured we'd take one car. DEAN: Works for me. You still want to break my face? SAM smiles. SAM: No. Uh, not at this moment.

Sam's actually satisfied enough with Dean communicating, even if it happens within an argument where they have a moral disagreement! In fact, Sam is able to see exactly where Dean is coming from morally and meet him in a middle ground where they at least agree that it isn't actually as black and white as Sam wanted it to be.

SAM: Look, you know what? Um... You were right. About Amy. If she was... just any monster, I'm not sure I could have let her walk away. I don't know. I mean, I'll never know. DEAN: So, what are you saying? SAM: What I'm saying is... I get why you did it. You were just trying to make sure no one else got hurt.

The thing that's still eating at Sam, is that Dean hasn't been fully honest with him yet about what exactly is going on with him. Sam has observed Dean's terrible mental state the last several weeks with increasing concern, and he's already focused in on this idea of "If it feels wrong, it probably is wrong".

SAM: But here's the thing. You can't just look me in the face and tell me you're fine. I mean, you're not sleeping, you drink for the record— DEAN: Oh, here we go. SAM: Look, whatever. Last one to preach, I know. But... Just be honest with me. How are those the actions of someone who knows they did the right thing?

If Dean's mental state is a result of guilt over what he did to Amy, that means he isn't being honest with Sam or himself about where he went wrong. If Dean only feels guilty about lying to Sam, that's fair enough—Sam gets his moral point of view as far as Amy. But if Dean actually thinks killing her was wrong, he needs to own up to it. The other possibility is that something else is eating at Dean that he hasn't fully communicated, and Sam wants to know what that is. They do dangerous work, and Sam needs to know what Dean's mental state actually is just as much as Dean needs Sam to be open about his own.

DEAN: You want me to be honest? SAM: Yeah. DEAN: I went with my gut. And that felt right. I didn't trust her, Sam. Of course, ever since Cas, I'm having a hard time trusting anybody. And as far as how I been acting... I don't know. Maybe it's 'cause I don't like lying to you. You know, it doesn't feel right. So, yeah, you got me there. I been climbing the walls.

Dean's further communication here does two things for Sam: 1) It's going to really relieve the part of Sam that's upset about the idea that Dean just didn't trust him, because Dean says lying to Sam felt so wrong that twisted him up in knots for weeks. That's far off from Sam's concerns of having an older brother who simply doesn't believe he can do the job or make the right decisions. Dean's guilt is felt so deeply because he sees Sam as a trusted partner deserving of his honesty, and believed it was wrong and unfair to lie to him. 2) Dean further communicates why he is struggling emotionally which leaves Sam feeling like he's in a better position to understand him and support him. It also communicates further trust and cultivates a mutually supportive relationship where Sam doesn't just feel like the crazy guy Dean is going to have a heart attack thinking about supporting, but feels like he can support Dean too.

And then right after that they're both joking around. Crazy what communication over your brother murdering your murderous ex who kills drug addicts and feeds their brains to her child can do.

I can’t remember if you’ve said yet or not with the time of things but, what do you think about Buck starting to realize or actually realizing in episode 9

That being said, let's all hold our horses. The chances of Buck actually realizing on 809 are null. Not even just because of my very firm belief that the show is not going to make Buck the cliché queer guy in love with his straight best friend, so they're not gonna make him explicitly pine for straight Eddie, and Eddie is not there yet but also because this is too fast. With Maddie's kidnapping, the chances of something concrete happening with buddie are none. The event of the episode is the kidnapping, buddie canon (yeah, any feeling realization counts here) would overshadow that, trust me, a feeling realization is gonna be the a plot of the episode whenever it happens. The buddie plot will most likely set up the tension Oliver mentioned. In my opinion, neither of them is gonna get an actual lightbulb moment before Eddie is in Texas.

I hope this question makes sense, but at what point do you think the show will want the audience to understand that Buddie is happening?

I mean because some casual viewers claim that it’s not ever happening, won’t ever, couldn’t ever, or some are just entirely oblivious to it happening. If Buck and Eddie were a man and a woman they’d be cheering for it but because it’s 2 men it can’t possibly be romantic seems to be some peoples’ thoughts.

So when will it be made very clear to the audience do you think? Before the first episode even airs, once the new season gets going, or not until the very moment that one of them says it out loud?

Well, first of all... a lot of these people are deliberately obtuse. They don't want to see 'it', because it doesn't fit their headcanon of two handsome firefighters wanting each other instead of some random female love interest.

Throughout the years that I spent in online fandoms I've seen the shift happen between it being 'shameful' to ship two men or two women together to it being accepted and even celebrated.

One of my first experiences with a male/male ship was Sam Seaborn/Josh Lyman from The West Wing. Two men together was called a slash ship back then. This was around the turn of the century.

I didn't actively ship it, because the show was heavily focused on Josh/Donna and I loved their dynamic. But Sam/Josh was definitely looked down upon by a lot of people in the Josh/Donna fandom. It was all kept hush hush and a lot of people found it 'gross' that anyone would want to ship Sam with Josh. I remember cautiously looking up some of the fanfic and being intrigued by the concept of these two guys falling in love. There was a lot of subtext being analysed and it was fascinating. I never told anyone about my interest in the ship, because I was young and I wanted to fit in with the bigger Josh/Donna fandom.

Of course, Josh/Donna ended up happening in season 7. But the thing is that no one ever really doubted that Josh and Donna would one day give in to their attraction for each other. Everyone had accepted from the get-go that they were in love and destined to be together. No one ever saw the same thing in Sam and Josh, who had some amazing interactions. The only people who 'saw' it were the fans who actively shipped it at the time. The people who were willing to see beyond what they showed us and who looked at the subtext.

Then I watched Without a Trace (2002) and I was immediately sold on Danny Taylor/Martin Fitzgerald. They were perfect together and there was so much subtext there. It didn't hurt that the actors had tons of natural chemistry between them. So I actively started shipping them. I made fanart and wrote fanfic and soon after met the best bunch of people I've ever had the privilege of being in a fandom with. We even met up three times in real life to geek out over Danny and Martin.😋

But no matter how much chemistry they had and how well they fit together, both men eventually ended up with women. I wasn't too disappointed, because I had no expectations in the first place. I knew it would never happen.

Now here we are, today in 2025. We have this pair of men. Beautiful co-dependent men who clearly love each other and have great respect for each other. It doesn't hurt that the actors have tons of chemistry together either.

Sure, we get some subtext here and there, but most of the clues and signs aren't subtext at all. They are clear for everyone to see. They are big, bold and deliberately put there for people to pick up on.

And still these people refuse to 'see' it, because it doesn't fit in with what they expect to see on a show like this. It doesn't fit their narrative. 🤷‍♀️

So yeah they've been 'showing' and 'telling' us since season 7 (in some ways it started even earlier during the FOX era) that Buddie is going to be endgame, but the casual viewers who are not as invested don't even think about the possibility and the deliberately obtuse viewers refuse to see it. People like that need a wake up call. They need an anvil to drop on their heads.

So yeah, I think that is exactly what will happen. We'll see some heavy hinting at big emotions concerning Eddie leaving in 8x09 and 8x10. Then Buck is going to realise he is in love with Eddie and he is going to voice it out loud so the audience can hear it and start accepting it. My money is on 8x11 for that scene. As for Eddie? I expect him to realise it a few episodes later, not sure when. And again it will be made clear to the audience (in no uncertain terms) that yes, Eddie has feelings for Buck.

That being said though, I think the Ryan interview might start planting some seeds for Eddie's coming out. I think they'll officially start releasing Eddie Diaz from the closet tomorrow during that Ryan interview. He won't say it, but I do think some things will be implied. But of course, this won't be enough for the nay-sayers. They will need that anvil to drop on their head in 8x11.

So far, an aspec/robot reading of this feels…a little uninteresting? I don’t think it’s that it’s tasteless, it’s just…there’s lots of interesting stuff to say about Asimov’s writing, or DADoES, and about halfway through it doesn’t feel like there’s much to analyze or interpret. An aro robot on itself doesn’t have much room for nuance; the interesting parts of media analysis are usually what’s hidden under the surface, and so far it doesn’t feel like there’s much.

Nezha 2 Thoughts

Watched Nezha 2 yesterday and here are some of my thoughts

Overall really enjoyed it. Now I can jump straight into the fandom with no worries.

The pacing was so fast that I'm sure I missed so many things. Am already planning to watch it again on IMAX next time.

In the theater they had 3 sets of subtitles: Malay, Chinese and English. I was basically going back and forth between the Chinese and English (apologies to my mother tongue) so I don't know how good the subtitles were in Malay. The English subtitles were okay but had some issues. Aside from some grammar errors, if I had to guess they were probably heavily referencing the US subtitles but were also doing their own thing. So the Dragon clan are actually called the Loong clan here (with that spelling yes), and I had no problem with that decision but they're super inconsistent with transliteration vs translating the names. So Lutong and Hetong are still called Deero and Crana and that's just confusing.

Surprisingly I did not cry during Lady Yin's death. Nezha's voice actor was so good at that part but I am a crier so I was surprised that I was fine during that scene maybe because

There was so much that happened in that movie that yeah there were times that I clocked out a bit but then I was super locked in during that third act. Holy shit. Yeah definitely wouldn't mind watching the movie again just for that climax.

I wish the movie slowed down a bit to let the many many characters in it breathe a little. There were so many, and some of them interested me enough but didn't get enough development for me to care more about them (e.g. Ao Guang, his siblings and Lutong).

This was a whole anime season shoved into one movie, in a good way.

Nezha and Ao Bing's relationship should have been developed more. A few ways they could have done that: they actually could have wrung more out of the shared body episode. I know Ao Bing is ultimately a polite boy so any buddy comedy shenanigans would not have worked but my point is there could have been more conflict between the two so that that 2nd act twist would have hit harder. Maybe have their approaches to subduing demons be different; we know Ao Bing had that flash of compassion towards Shen Gongbao's family (still effed up that he still doesn't know who they really were btw) so maybe having Nezha be more generally destructive would have highlighted tension between the two and they would have to work through it. But then they find out Chen Tang Pass was destroyed. Ugh that would have been so good.

Overall I think this movie is really good with the Big and Grand stuff. The animation of course is unbelievable and again, some of its themes about family and complicity with an oppressive system were really compelling. But the small character stuff gets lost in all of that.

I have watched Episode 2 and here's my brain blurt:

The story is moving fast, like, real fast, and I worry the two main characters are looking a bit sloppy in a way they're not supposed to as a result. Like, did Kan really have no plan for ensuring he wouldn't be caught with damning evidence, resulting in this messy scramble? Is he really so lacking in emotional intelligence that he wouldn't know his insincere flirting and premature confession would ping Wasan's manipulation radar? Is Wasan really not going to follow basic procedure as he investigates Kan and instead just chase him around in this haphazard way?

Noting @clairedaring and @waitmyturtles in the comments here: yeah it does not surprise me to learn they are majorly condensing and speeding through this story.

The details of Nipon's death definitely support the theory that Kan is not responsible for that murder. Given his motives for these mercy killings, ain't no way that man attacked Nipon, terrified and chased him, and then carelessly tossed the syringe into the water. Someone else did this. I like @incandescentflower's theory that the killer intentionally did this sloppy murder to get scrutiny on what Kan is doing.

But I do think Kan has slipped up with his own little operation and created this opening for a copycat. He and his nurse buddy are not subtle and not good at covering their tracks. He made a mistake euthanizing Wasan's mother the day her cop son arrived home (I'm sticking to him being the culprit there until proven otherwise, because it's what makes the most sense for the story). He has done this too often, as evidenced by the other nurse commenting on how many of his patients have suddenly died recently. He's not coming across like a smooth operator in command; he seems arrogant and short-sighted and he clearly had no real plan for when suspicions inevitably fell on his shoulders.

I enjoyed Wasan outsmarting Kan by making him panic about the bathroom so he could search the fridge. Too bad that was a high key illegal search and seizure! In any case I am hoping Kan returned the favor on the misdirect and swapped the coolers, distracting Wasan with the one they took to the car while the real one is safely inside somewhere.

My side eye at the lady coroner intensifies. Talk about big weirdo energy. Her boss appearing to be Kan's teacher is interesting, too.

Some ideas about the new ep:

So we know Buck is going to be jealous about Eddie spending time with Tommy.

And we know he goes and talks with Chim and Maddie.

There's also that kitchen scene with Buck and Eddie. Which I think most were assuming is at the end of the ep but what if it's not.

I think after the basketball game Buck and Maddie and Chim talk (at least it seems that way from the little bit of JLH's script we saw). But what if Eddie comes over after that and then maybe there's a little more of the episode.

But there's also this shot which no one can really figure out what scene it's from because the shirt doesn't match the one Buck is wearing in the kitchen scene.

If you look close Buck looks kind of nervously hopeful in it. I feel like this is from the end of the episode.

I feel like a multitude of things could be happening here.

Buck has had his Oh Moment and is waiting to tell Eddie

Buck has his Oh Moment and plans to tell Eddie but before he does Eddie tells him things are getting more serious with Marisol. She's moving in maybe. And yeah I know it would be fast but they could come up with a reason. (Not saying I want Marisol to stick around btw just that it would make for good drama temporarily while we get pining Buck for a while.)

Buck is waiting to go on a date with Tommy because he's realized he's into guys or is fully open to dating guys if he's had sex with them before (which I definitely think he has based on his travels)

Part of the reason I feel like we might get a scene like this is because of how this is the 100th ep and it's connected to the Bachelor. The Bachelor essentially being a show about finding and choosing your soulmate. Telling that person I've picked you, I've chosen you out of anyone else I could have chosen. It's no coincidence they're choosing to do something so Buddie-centric during an episode with this crossover.

I also think the show is likely to do something big for it's 100th especially since most shows never make it that far anymore and especially since 911 almost didn't. They've been saying in interviews they're going to give the audience what we want and they know we've been screaming about Buddie since forever. They're definitely not blind to that they even get asked about Buddie in like every single interview.

I don't think we're going to get Buddie canon yet (nor do I think we should) but I do think we'll get some big step in that direction something will have majorly shifted after this.

I think if the show does well for season 7 (as it's been doing) they're going to see how the audience responds to the changes they make to Buddie this season and that will dictate how they're going to proceed. Which is why I think it's more important than ever that we put positive engagement out there on abc's social media about 911 and Buddie.

as someone who is very invested in staying out of fandom hating, i just focus on speculation for the current main storyline which is the bobby, chim, hen and Ravi emergency - theres so much fun to be had without getting into ships (or maybe look up some interesting rarepairs ifyou want some variety but don't want to leave the shipping sphere!) like theorising how they could get out alive, the different scenarios in which each character may or may not survive and how that affects the plot, and their miraculous escapes bc we Obviously Can't Kill A Main Character

also so much discourse in the 9-1-1 fandom is just... silly and irrelevant to anything - i like to treat the ship and the ship's fandom as different things entirely so it doens't ruin the viewing experiecne

And the problem is that this NDE thing — it’s just repetitive. It keeps happening over and over again. There’s nothing interesting in it for me.

Someone recently counted how many NDEs the characters had. I think the comparison is obvious.

Even if we forget about Eddie for a second — even in this episode, it didn’t feel like a strong storyline for me, sorry. Like, they’re locked in a lab. The villain is cartoonish again. Everything feels super rushed. One dramatic scene, literally one a very clichéd line from Ravi.

This isn't a case of 8x13 - they finished filming while ago from what I remember.

Like there was absolutely no reason to delay sending out screeners that late. There's also the fact that they made Moira's plot so so obvious through the stills - like you couldn't tell that with Braeburn. (Of course that may be because she did most of her killing and kidnapping off screen that first episode - it was mostly just a guess based on the fact that they introduced a new character and she had hair matching Maddie's kidnapper. But still, we had no idea what her deal was. I can assume Moira's just from the stills and the basic knowledge of the episode)

OH. I totally missed the baby. (just like Ravi) I can see how that would mess with Ravi's head.

I initially thought it was an adoption cake for Mara - but then I saw that Maddie and Chimney were cutting it. So. Not for Mara.

I am also not sure how it'll go with Eddie. Because we have the title for 8x16 and it's The Last Alarm. That is not comforting at all. (I swear, if we have to sit through another Bobby NDE, I might scream (and then watch it with bated breath) But a Last Alarm could also refer to retirement and given that Gerrard was seen in the BTS and he's kinda old now, it could be that he's retiring from the LAFD and they're doing something (shudder) nice for him by letting him run one last shift. It would explain some bits, but not others - Eddie and Bobby both in uniform at the same place and time, when Eddie's in a suit in the Funeral BTS, are directly conflicting. So, there's still hope for the Coma Dream? I don't know, all the BTS for this episode is so contradictory.

Yeah, the late screeners are very weird. I'm definitely side-eyeing the show for that. They are trying to keep something under wraps. But they have already posted a gazillion stills about the episode that reveal so much to us, including the obvious villain. Next to that there is the sneak peek which is very obvious as well.

I don't know. I'm not automatically concluding that whatever they are hiding is Eddie-related, but it is weird that he is nowhere to be found in those stills, while we know he is in the episode.

I agree on the fact that Eddie would never let Chris stay another night with his grandparents. It wouldn't make sense. I don't know. Maybe Eddie calls Buck and tells him he is coming over to help, maybe mentioning Carla to watch Chris when he is at Buck's house, but Buck warns him there might be a virus on the loose and he shouldn't come at all?

I can see that happening. I can clearly see Buck being all: 'No, you guys stay away from LA. If this virus gets out, we're all dead. I don't need to be worried about you two as long as you're in Texas.'
