Yusuke and Botan look great which I already knew going in from the gifset that informed me this show exists lol, but it's delightful, bc the characters in this show aren't necessarily the easiest to translate to live action

Botan is adorable. Her hair is adorable. And I'm delighted to see that Yusuke's hair is the Correct amount of Poufy

Plot twist: Kuwabara hot. He looks great actually. Translated nonliterally compared to Yusuke but v well. The actor is selling me on it too, fun casting

Kuwabara was always hard for me to watch in the original bc he set off my vicarious embarrassment soo hard. Glad they're less committed to making him the constant source of painful comedic relief here lol

KOENMA PACIFIER REVEAL I LOVE IT

Idk if I'm a little disappointed he's not a baby but like live action would make that ridic hard to do in a lot of ways so I don't blame them at all. He's in his adult form which makes sense. Still damn glad they kept the pacifier it is RUINING his dignity and I love it

Seriously they do a really good job of making Yusuke's fighting style as a human believable, fun to watch, and effective. He rly does come off as just kind of a natural fighting genius (with practice ofc)

Sakyo in ep 1? Weird but I'm not opposed. The wavy hair is kinda freaking me out though ngl. Smoothness was just such his THING in the show it's distracting

Really liked Yusuke's mom's introduction (not that it was flattering to her as a character) but I wish they'd done more with her in the rest of the ep. Her power hug at the end is great tho

Show's slowing down a bit but it's fine I'm still having fun, the nostalgia power will get me through basically whatever

That said I keep watching the motion of him and the other demons in this ep and thinking about Hayao Miyazaki said about the disgusting cruelty of using effects technology to make the scary scary inhuman monsters just fucking. look and move like disabled ppl

Seriously I keep seeing flashes of the appearance and movements of people I know with developmental disabilities (particularly this one guy I know with cerebral palsy but also I've worked in care work for disabled adults and just kind of a lot of people in general) and. I hate this. Especially as a person who DOES have a (nonvisible) developmental disability myself. This is such a rising trend in horror/sff/fantasy tv/movies/video games and I hate everything about it. Hayao Miyazaki was right this kind of attitude and shit really is "an insult to life itself"

Kurama looks pretty good. Goki actually looks wayyyy better than he did in the anime imho, which I did not see coming.

Effects on Kurama and Hiei's fighting looks surprisingly great. They pulled off the rose whip way better than I thought they would, and did some great wirework with Hiei's speed and fighting style

That said....Hiei...oof. That hair was always gonna be a Challenge but I think their ambition here did uh. not play off rip. Hopefully it'll look better later on

I actually rlly liked this part of his characterisation bc it makes hin Extremely practical. bc honestly logically it makes sense! he asessed the situation and determined there was no way he would be able to defeat hoolay (guy who hasnt been killed by the forest for swords for 700 years) by himself so the best course of action is to retreat and look for help

plus he did inisist on staying when jiaoqiu first told him to run and only ran after hoolay broke free and the situation was clear it wasnt going to get better

also I do love the romanticism abt two ppl being extremely devoted towards someone else teehee ^_^

bc they may care deeply for each other but above all they are loyal to their general <3

he may be extremely practical but imo he's Too Practical. he doesn't have to defeat hoolay - and defeating hoolay would likely be counterproductive to jiaoqiu wanting to see if his lupitoxin is the key to curing feixiao. he just has to get in there long enough to drag him to a slightly safer corner of the prison (and there are a lot of nooks and crannies to hide in in that place). honestly this is probably exactly what dan heng and stelle were thinking in this moment LMFAO no wonder i've been such an astral express trio polycule truther since Day One i share their thought processes and everything

i don't think it's like bad characterization or anything i just don't vibe with it. i also don't understand what romanticism you're talking about fgkjsdbklsnfjbdfgkn like what's... romantic about that... nothing there appeals to me. BUT THAT'S OKAY i know my perspective on romance and love is somewhat unconventional and sometimes what other people find romantic and appealing doesn't click in my head as such - and vice versa ! if we're going to be doing a yaoqing trio polycule (which i do really like, in theory, if i wasn't so annoyed with moze rn) i want an even distribution of devotion between all three members... i want them to find themselves becoming reckless and even foolish in their love, ready to throw themselves into the thick of danger to save the others... not just moze and jiaoqiu putting loyalty to their general above all else, including each other...... does that make sense .

He totally would try on drag, not because he's a drag queen or anything, but just to try it out. (Or maybe he was a queen for a month before the show started. That sounds legit.) The show would do it for a case & it would be played off as a man in a dress joke, but the actual queens would be really good, the joke would only be about shawn & gus. Oh wait I just realized, we did see shawn's place in ep 1.

I am (trying to get) in a reading mood lately. Hoping to finally finish Silent Readings last bits. So like as you all know I wrote gratuitous meta and liveblogging on other chapters?

Yeah I expect unless my brain is so fried I'm gone past words cause the story completely consumed my ability to word things for a while, I'll make at least a bit of a post when I finish it. (Though I can already say GO READ SILENT READING BY PRIEST TRANSLATED BY EDANGLARTRANSLATIONS if you like the kind of stuff I like like queer men solving murders and stories about the corruption of government and justice and how evil rich ppl can be and healing from trauma both from a mature perspective and a more young ignoring-its-there not-even-fully-aware yet of its scope Perspective. Also daddy kink out the wazoo but in like the most nurturing ass way you ever did see and absolutely opposed to the leads actual daddy issues of "my dad's pure evil" Compared to "I'm dating an older man who loves me Actually Unconditionally (and also I love being babied and scolded and treated like a normal person by him)" (which? As an aside it is SO interesting to me how Luo Wenzhou loves unconditionally... in reality, most romantic love would be slightly conditional in that like it's normal and healthy to leave someone who say hits or steals all your money or threatens your family etc. But when you love say your child? Especially the younger they are, that's really the closest humans tend to get to unconditional love. Someone has to love and care for a child to keep it alive and healthy, even if the child hits or steals or threatens. While yes in extremes children may get taken away from a parent or a parent needs help at that point, and the child may end up somewhere where no one loves them. There's more of an instinct to generally love one's child closer to unconditionally. If a romantic partner yells at me or hits me? They're gone, they're cut out of my life. If my 8 year old niece yells at me and punches me? I get over it because I love her and it's my job to help keep her alive and see her doing okay. So like... in Silent Reading, it's fascinating that Luo Wenzhou starts the novel in the stance that Fei Du is more or less his adopted kid in terms of unconditional love, in terms of "I'll protect you and help you grow up into a good man, try to protect you from more trauma and help you cope with what you've got, endure the lashing out and try to help correct it so you don't act like that as an adult" in a way that like... if they were 2 teen boyfriends or 2 adult boyFriends the best move would probably just be to cut Fei Du OUT. But to Luo Wenzhou at the start, Fei Du is his responsibility like a kid would be, and that's not someone you cut out as an equal attacking you as quickly. Then as their relationship evolves, Luo DOES have to realize he does need to not be with Fei Du romantically if fei du can't treat him like an equal in that. Because that is different than a parent and child. An equal romantic partner needs to be honest back, needs to not lash out and expect unconditional forgiveness, needs to put in equal effort to build mutual respect - and oh man even then Luo Wenzhous more than willing to walk them through the process and lead in what to do next. But it's just mm. Just so fascinating seeing them both fall back on this chosen family sort of bond as a safety net, their safe place and a kind of unconditional love Fei Du got NOWHERE else in life, mixed with as they grow together this equal partnership both in work and romance where they feel More vulnerable and uncertain and like it's less of a guarantee they'll get to keep that old love and security the more they try to be truly equal. Idk I could write... a mountain on this... just like, for me, it's the most fascinating use of daddy kink lmao and age difference and past issues and stuff to tell stories about characters that I've seen)

Extremely sorry to those who aren't interested in Pokespe but also I'm not that sorry because this is absolute heaven for me xfjxjg

Pokespe's my second favourite piece of Pokemon media because the Mystery Dungeon series has captured my heart and my reasons for loving it keep evolving as the years pass but yeah!!! Its story is just the best and it barely lets up in quality. Why the manga goes so hard I will never know but I am forever thankful.

Definitely understand stopping at sinnoh dgsj it was great but not as good as hoenn. Nothing has topped hoenn yet imo but also I stopped reading halfway through X and Y so maybe the later arcs proved me wrong. When I find them...

I do think sinnoh had the best trio of all the cast though, they felt really close knit and their friendship progressed really well. Nothing can top Ruby and Sapphire's closeness but I think the addition of Emerald stopped them from getting best trio. Still love both casts a whole lot!

I forgot how much I loved Yellow's kindness fhdkh the manga barely even made fun of them for it!! Every character who pushed them to fight always got proven wrong when their nonviolence got the job done well! Also it made the moments when they actually needed to fight hit really, really hard. The sense of gravity when they actually fought was so much easier to feel when it was Yellow, the one who's defined by disliking battling, who was fighting instead of almost everyone else who get into fights regularly. Same thing applies here for Ruby but on a smaller scale.

In almost all the Pokemon media Gold and Silver always seem to act like boyfriends it's great. Those two could rival Red and Blue honestly.

Pokespe and its casts are so good. It's not even just the human characters, the Pokemon get great characterisation as well! Pika struggling to care for Yellow's Caterpie had a whole chapter devoted to it and it didn't even advance the plot, it was there for fluff and I loved it. A Pokemon is also the reason I insist that my friends who know nothing about Pokemon read the hoenn arc. That Pokemon happens to be Feefee/Mimi depending on translation. Not gonna spoil why to anyone who may be interested but I love her so much and I know it hits so much harder when you don't know anything about Pokemon.

Adding on to traditionally weak traits are seen as strong, the X and Y arc deconstructs the opposite. It shows why the common trope of the child prodigy battler isn't necessarily a completely good thing and I loved it so much.

Yeah Norman was. hm. It also says a lot about how few people read the manga when Norman being an absentee father is a meme from the games because if those people read the manga the memes would get even worse and yet they haven't somehow.

Ruby and Sapphire's backstory and how it affected them in the present is masterful. They're such amazing foils and the way both their povs were presented made their wildly different personalities make so much sense!! The same event resulted in such different outcomes, it's just amazing. Speaking of the incident, I'm convinced the manga is psychic because the remakes of hoenn gave it extra fuel to expand on the incident in such a natural way you'd think it was made with the manga in mind. Of course the oras arc took full advantage of that, so if you haven't you could check it out alongside your rereading! The remake arcs always tend to be pretty good anyway.

Now that it's abundantly clear Jigoku is super suspicious, I'm coming back around to thinking Kazuma's mission was more than purely personal and he was assigned to be the Reaper's new assassin by Jigoku (the List is starting to make sense!!!). Which also means Kazuma was partly lying during the conversation in his office in case 4 when he made his mission sound entirely personal. I wonder how much truth there was in the part about him receiving the letter mentioning his dad's crimes and how Jigoku laughed it off like a joke. That feels like it wouldn't be an anecdote Kazuma would fabricate, because it'd be very personal and painful, but. hm.

hmmmmmm guess what I've just thought about: an actual plausible reason for Kazuma hypothetically having faked the amnesia if that was indeed a thing, which whoops I guess I'm still leaving open the possibility of actually. For as long as Stronghart believed he had amnesia, he wasn't going to ask Kazuma to kill anybody. If Kazuma had no intention of ever carrying out the assassination (and of course he didn't), then that's the perfect way to put it off without arousing suspicion. Then I imagine him choosing the moment he did to hypothetically fake remembering everything would be out of a combination of having heard Gregson would be transferring soon, and the truth of the Professor case finally beginning to come to light such that he needed to be able to act with more agency to investigate that.

still can't believe this entire story's plot happened because Kazuma nominally agreed to go and assassinate someone halfway across the world. Like, I'd been increasingly suspecting he was some kind of assassin somehow, he straight-up admitted it in the latest court section, and yet I was still floored by realising just how important that was to the everything. It's literally the only reason Ryunosuke's in England. Kazuma must have known and been hiding it the whole time from before the beginning of the game. I'd been worrying that the Secret List's true nature would be kind of a letdown and not actually matter that much after how much I'd been trying to make sense of it, but it sure delivered.

Also I love the narrative bookending of how Exchange Assassination #1 was the very first murder case in the game, and now Exchange Assassination #2 (or something that looks like that) is the very last murder case in the game. Really brings it full circle.

But why it takes me so long boils down to three things (for myself and productivity) ---

(1) Time Blindness (this one ALWAYS gets me LOL)

you would not believE how fast a day can go for me. Like these weeks have been flying by so quick I feel like I'm drownin (rip)

(2) The clock and expectation mixing together gives me an unfortunate bout of anxiety.

Like I rlly love and appreciate every1 that follows and enjoys and engages with my liveblogs lol. It's really such a highlight being able to share my thoughts and just go fan-crazy with other ppl who *GET* it, y'know? And it is also SUCH a motivator.

But tumblr's media limit shot me with adrenaline. Where (with my time blindness lmao rip) I always feel like I'm in a race against the clock to post as much as I can before it hits midnight (and everything resets)

So if its like 10pm the amount of anxiety spikes that shoot through me if I even glance at the clock and put any care on time is like insane actually. I guess "adrenaline" is more correct than anxiety, but it def has an anxious edge to it.

And I don't really care about anxiety cause I'm not an anxious person. A lot of people actually call me too laid back /lackadaisical.

But the problem is that if I get these spikes they almost immediately send me into a mixed state.

And if I get into a mixed state oooooooooo. Well lets just say those are the times where I have the tumblr tab open along with like 20 other tabs, and then I proceed to spend 42-75 hours without sleep obsessed over something random and unimportant.

(last week I was looking at BJD --hAH. That I can't even afford smh. WHY. And I did this for at least 42 hours without sleep. ).

TLDR;

I work a job but since I'm a writer (in my own time), I need to write/edit, and also I need to practice drawing -- And these can take up an incredibly long amount of time if I don't set alarms LOL.

Then combine that with ADHD, and bi-polar episodes and WOO. We are truly partying >:)). And THEN combine that with life responsibilities and things like my physical health issues --directly relating to food allergies, which are always ready to duke it out with me in the yard.

I was so immersed in skam fandom, one of the first that I actually got into completely, that I forget that like other fandoms exist? Basically, I witnessed a lot of buffoonery in the skam fandom. It was nice with all the fanfics and meta but like it got wild and it’s one of the reasons I bowed out cause the anxiety was real man. But I’ve kind of entered into 911? But really it’s mostly just the fanfic because I go into the tag sometimes when an episode comes out but honestly ppl are WILD. Like Oliver stark had to deactivate because ppl won’t stop. And I’m over here like whaaat? I know ppl can freak out online and it’s one thing to make posts about it but like actors are real ppl and I really don’t understand the disconnect ppl have when they say shit to the actors. Like they don’t care or take into account that ppl are real and they are not their characters. It’s such a bummer and probably why I’ll stay in the land buddie fan fic lol

Wow this is so real like skamiverse fandom can def be a fucking circus sometimes and it's tempting to blame skam specific stuff like the live format etc

But yeah in fact each fandom unfortunately has its share of people who are either seriously deranged, too young to be online unsupervised, lacking any sort of decency, or at the very least have seriously lost touch with reality that they think it's okay to treat real people like this over made up shit.

It's so wack to me that people have invested so much of their identity and feelings in these stories that they fly off the handle like this. And this has a tendency unfortunately to get worse w queer pairings often bc media representation has come to be seen as a substitute for actual political activism so they see it as: not giving me the queer pairing I want = you must hate gay people = you deserve death threats (or something).

It's honestly such a shame bc it ruins the fandom for the rest of us. Like I read this and half of my enthusiasm for next ep was already gone, like this is so cringe I dont want to be associated with this. It would have been fun to see Oliver Stark liveblog the finale but I guess we can't have nice things.

And I mean I definitely think this is partly bc social media is specifically made to turn every possible human interaction into hot garbage for the algorithm but some people also really need to take a good look in the mirror.

I don't get the whole "haha bullying celebrities online is fun" thing ; sure they're rich and famous (and I mean in this case he's just a moderately well known TV actor so like...) but when it comes to it they're still one person facing a mass of people throwing insults their way which is not fun for anybody. And I know a lot of people doing that shit like to pretend that the power dynamics are in their favor because they're younger or not famous or whatever and the people they attack should "get over it" but it's like...just a bad faith excuse for being a piece of garbage. (i'm talking about kory here, but tbh if you dislike any of the characters who dick interacts with frequently and are a huge part of his life - especially his love interests, and his family - you shouldn't be writing dick.) so i'm not going into this story with high hopes. however i've seen ppl talk about this story as being really good so i hope i'll like it too

this is def some of grayson's better work, but it suffers from the same thing all of her stories do. she doesn't fully understand all the characters. if one character is off it affects the whole story. a lot of her stories have good ideas and poor execution, and this one definitely doesn't have awful execution but there's still something missing and as someone who loves the titans it's just sad. i get why people like this story - it made me tear up at the end ngl - but the rest of the titans are just as important as dick and it feels like the writer doesn't understand that. (i get this is a dick comic but it's still a titans story.) (it does however make me want to write a fic expanding upon this moment and the aftermath bc the idea of the titans all coming together to cheer dick up is so goooooood. are they gonna have a party celebrating dick's parent's lives? are they gonna eat junk food and watch a comfort movie? are they gonna just sit and talk?? the possibilities are endless!!)

the art is gorgeous as all of jimenez' art is, i love his style so freaking much!!
