So I know everyone kinda got distracted by the strip poker and all but did everyone also notice we got to hear Castle say "I love you" to Beckett? Squeee! He hasn't actually said those words to her since 4x23. He said "I love you too" in reply to Beckett's I love you's in 5x21 and 6x01 but hearing him say those 3 words is just magic!

Five Things I Loved About Castle 6x21 - Law and Boarder

Since I didn't do a full review or thoughts post yesterday or today, I figured I would do something a little bit different this time. Or at least I'd name it something different and see how it felt.

I loved how we were reminded that both Castle and Beckett are intelligent, competitive, evenly matched people. They continue to challenge and frustrate each other with both their victories and their quirks, and I love that.

I loved seeing Beckett actually threaten to have the lawyer removed from her interrogation room. It took me back to the conversation she had with the lawyer in Hedge Fund Homeboys in season 1. (Also, I won't lie, I'd kind of love to see an AU where Cop!Kate Beckett goes toe to to with Lawyer!Johanna Beckett. The badass in that room would probably cause a small universe to explode.)

Ryan and Esposito's competition to become the (best) man of the hour will never not be funny, I think. I cackled when Esposito offered to let Castle come alone and stop for the bacon brownies. I love the mentions of Castle's sweet tooth.

The (largely inevitable) outcome of the Best Man Battle was sweet as well (hah, see what I did there?). I know some really thought Ryan or Espo should've been best man, but all season long we've seen such a focus on Kate and Rick blending their families. and I think it would've been a total oversight to not include Alexis in their wedding. Yes, she could've been a bridesmaid, but there's a big difference between being bridesmaid number 2 and best man. Yes, it's still an honor, but there really is something wonderful and special about Rick declaring that he wants Alexis to stand directly beside him while he marries Kate. Not three people down, directly with them. To me, Alexis as a bridesmaid would've felt like an obligation, but being best man tells her exactly how important she is to them (and I say them because this entire wedding has been planned together so I have no doubt that Castle and Beckett discussed their wedding party choices beforehand).

And lastly, of course, the poker scene. But not for the reasons you think! Yes the sexy times were good, yes Kate was adorable when she asked where Martha and Alexis were like a sneaky teenager hoping to steal some time with her boyfriend, but what I really loved about that scene goes back to my first bullet on the list. Kate knows they're pretty evenly matched, and they're both competitive, so what does she do? She picks something that, even though they're still evenly matched, neither of them mind losing all that much. I liked that. I liked her showing him the things they do together are more important to her than the winning or the losing (even though she's not afraid to whoop his butt and put him in his place when he's gloating).

So there we go! My five bullet, mini-mini-review of Law and Boarder. Next week will be much better, which is good because Veritas looks awesome. (Also, I must confess, every time I see the word "veritas," it makes me think of Stargate: The Ark of Truth. I guess I know what I'll be watching later!)
