i've been really enjoying making devin's life suck shit lately. i know i keep saying every time i develop a new symptom i give it to them but there really is something to just. being a 38-year-old protagonist who won't kill yourself because you're not a dramatic 18-year-old anymore but who also spends literally every waking moment in so much fucking pain that you're constantly fucking begging to die. while everyone around you is like wow it's wild that you lived to 38 good job :) everyone with your condition before you has eventually lain down in the same graveyard and purposefully starved/frozen to death and you know that you're going to eventually too so you have a pact with your wife (the one you chose)(not the soulmate wife who's been making your life a living hell since you were 16 and she was a grown-ass woman) to die together but before you do you're both taking a ton of people down with you. you poorly speak about eight different languages because you're surrounded by refugees and immigrants and marginalized people and many of them are very afraid until they hear the relief of a familiar tongue and remembering these languages is exhausting because you are so sick all the time but it matters so much. you are terrified to die because whoever succeeds you will be just as sick and just as tired and just as empty and they probably won't make that same effort so you must go on standing you can't break that which isn't yours. you like soft blankets and string music and drums and the color green. you're in so much pain. your wife has made you a murderer but she first recognized you for your kindness a decade before you remember even meeting her. your magic is eating you alive. there is no cure and there is nobody who cares to find one. you wouldn't have chosen any of this but you didn't get a choice so now it's just a matter of what you do with your shitty time in this shitty body in this shitty world. your life sucks So Much Fucking Shit. you just want to curl up with your wife and sleep til you aren't tired anymore. you aren't EVER gonna get to do that.

1). i dont think i can pick a favorite since there's so many but i love rewatching Lush Caves, Ultimate Minecart Race, The Chef, The Ultimate Weapon (and honestly just the entire KO arc lmfao). For AVA its gotta be The Showdown it's just SOOO GOOD the animation, the concepts, the plot, ahhhh

THE DARK LORD THE DARK LORD THE DARK LORD (red is my second favorite tho). okay so, honestly it's just the amount of potential and trauma i could give him. i love his character and lore like, the idea of the Mission Code. what does it mean that you've been created for the sole purpose to destroy, and what does it mean that the person you're made to destory become your best friend? like, the existance of that code brings up so much potential and you could literally take it in so many ways. and like, just the story of cho and dark being two people who were coded for a purpose and run away. what...happens to that purpose? what are you supposed to do now? it's very "what am i if not a weapon?" "yourself. isn't that a wonderful person to be?" (i also dont remember where this quote is from). and also, i look at this little bastard and i think ah yes, he is a goddamn maniac. absolutely insane. i can make him as unhinged as possible and i think that's amazing.

i also think it's great that it's so easy for me to just do whatever i want with him like he's some dress up doll. i've got a genderbent version of him. i've got him with ADHD. i've got him with autism. i've got him trans. he's depressd. he has anxiety. he's in love. there's no saving him.

i also like that like. he's dead. he might not be dead. who fucking knows? and he's such an interesting character, is he evil, is he nice, does he care, what does he like? i want to know everything about him and i want to squish him like a little ball

4). hmmmm honestly? i only ever kinned like one character (yuki from horimiya) so im not too familiar with actually kinning. if i had to pick, probably red, mostly cause i see him as a hyper possibly ADHD guy who's always running head first into situations without a thought and think damn he's jus tlike me fr

KO/MANGO TALK LETS GO !! you're def right, he was forigven too soon, but i like to think or hope that they at least had a bit of bonding. okay well first off i want to start off with: i see a lot of content where we view mango as like around 20 years old which i want to immedately have on the table: what do you mean 20 years old. he's got a goddamn kid that seems to be maybe 8-10, he's got to be at least reaching 40 by the time we actually see him in AVM. and no, 40 is not too old, they can still do backflips and fight ppl (as long as mango maintained a healthy lifestyle with daily exercise, healthy diet, and good sleep).

i love the fact that he went evil because he lost his son, and that he got lost in his anger and started hurting everyone around him. although i do think his and purple's relationship could do with A LOTT of work. their trust was broken over and over again (mostly on purple's end) and im not sure mango particularily remembers how to treat a child well. and did mango ever like,,,yk,,,properly grieve for his son? for all we know, he went home the same day he lost gold, punched his wall a lot, then went straight to working on the staff. now that he doesn't have that drive anymore, i think that's all going to catch up to him. he really needs to properly grieve and mourn and recover before he goes about doing anything else.

he can, in fact however, be a good person/father as long as he's got that under the belt. (which you could def see that he was pretty swag when he still had gold). i personally see him as a raspy and gruff guy so he's also a man of very few words. that also means he probably has a buttload of communcation issues that is gonna affect his relationship with other people. he has got A LOT to work on

i also want to mention how i don't particulary enjoy the "overprotective father that trails their child everywhere". i don't think a lot of people view mano this way either, but i just want it on the table that even though mango would definitely be protective of purple, he won't be weird about it

6). ohhhh okay okay if you've read my fics you know i am in love with the "siblings victim & dark" as well as "siblings chosen and second". i feel like vic and dark are both insane and enable the worst, unhinged parts of each other. and then chosen and second are pretty much polar opposites with "doesn't say a word + yapper"

i also love it when CC treat red as like the youngest hyper sibling bc he really does give off that energy. also I AGREE WITH YOU purple and red together were so cute it was so unexpected but i love that

i also really really really want to see dark and purple interact with each other. mostly because they're probably the two most least likely characters to ever see each other. but i like the idea of dark terrorizing purple and it works because purple the whole time is like 'holy fuck this is that terrorist holy fuck shit oml'

i also want to see purple and mango interact with alan. im not sure if they ever did? but id like to imagine one day alan logs onto his computer and sees these two random sticks on his screen and is like who the fuck are you guys

YES YES YES OKAY LETS TALK ABOUT THIS this got incredibly long because I just have a lot to say (and i included screenshots) and i prob got a little off topic but. but lets get started anyways:

i haven’t read that particular storyline in a few months so i might be missing/misremembering some details here, but that whole ‘time prison + future tim’ thing was like. a really really interesting concept and the implications/impacts it has are a big part of why i liked tynion’s detective comics run as much as i did even with it’s flaws in characterization (such as treating tim like he was jimmy neutron boy genius and making steph..... be all ready to quit/breakaway from the team like that. the steph quitting characterization really started i think in batgirl convergence and unfortunately has haunted her since, even though pre reboot never giving up was like...... one of her defining traits. dc i hate you sometimes) 

i think that one of the biggest things that bothers me about the situation is how little we saw most of the other characters in the batfamily grieve (aside from steph and some with bruce, but again the way steph was portrayed just... hhhhhh. it very much reduced her to ‘tims girlfriend’ more than i’d have preferred) but otherwise like...as far as I can remember there was maybe one line in that monsters crossover thing where dick mentioned tim was gone, jason had a single line about avoiding the funeral in rhato, i dont think they showed any reaction from babs at all until after he was back, and the most for damian I recall is at the end of the 2014 teen titans run (#24) where he looks at... a case with the old red robin uniform Tim wasn’t even wearing anymore when he died? and that just bugs me. Instead of getting to see the actual funeral we get one flashback to it way after the fact once Bruce already knows Tim’s not actually dead

But at the time when they all DID think he was dead? the closest thing we see was in that same teen titans issue (#24) there’s a memorial-type ‘sharing stories’ thing after the funeral with tim’s titans friends but.... we don’t see something like that with his family. tim is a major presence in these peoples’ lives, they are his family, when he gets sent into time prison its even SAID how loved he apparently is

its just... idk. they all thought he was dead, and if they had put more emphasis on showing not just telling how that effected EVERYONE (not just steph) in the batfam, it might have felt a lot less like they were just putting tim away until there was a story idea for him. (like obviously I know they can’t make everyone’s stories revolve around Tim, but I’d have way preferred a detective comics issue of the funeral/memorial with the family than having there only be a teen titans one, I think it would have... held more relevance & meaning... but instead they just went right into that monster crossover story instead of lingering on this)

but then the Tim story itself once it does pick up way later, with titans tomorrow/future tim coming along having that whole “tell conner you’re sorry” “who’s conner?” exchange with current tim... that opens up A LOT of things to think about, and I think was pretty interestingly done if i’m remembering correctly. future tim recognizes the timelines are different, and ya know goes off to try to change things further ("whaddaya got there?” “a gun to kill batwoman” “NO!!!!”), theres lots of fighting etc etc the good guys win as we expect, but once that’s all settled tim’s left there with this whole. thought process

which ya know is the big indicator there’s weird timeline/reality fuckery going on (or also the read here can be that tim and kon are so connected across all space and time that their bond can transcend anything even timelines and realities and reboots... “and they were soulmates” “oh my god they were soulmates”) 

ANYWAYS lets not forget that tim isnt the only one who learns about this other timeline stuff during this whole situation!

Brother Eye has records of future tim’s timeline, and cass & steph see who they used to be! and as soon as steph finds out ‘holy shit i was ROBIN and BATGIRL?’ she also desperately wants to know more! which then a bit later leads into young justice 2019 where instead of going off to college like they told Bruce they were gonna, Steph and Tim go get the help of Zatanna to see what might be going on in their brains with these timelines and weird feelings (as we see in flashback form in yj 2019 #5)

and HOO BOY DOES SHE FIND THINGS! she gets in there and finds out that oh yeah, their brains had very much so been tampered with, and with her magic she undoes some of it, by unlocking memories, and Tim finally remembers Conner! (also in case u were wondering, that panel is specifically a callback to this one from yj 1998 #17 when Cissie quit the team)

one thing that I think is weird/interesting/idk if it gets... properly addressed even, was that Zatanna also poked around Steph’s brain too and she didn’t remember everything? Might have something to do even with how Tim had been in time prison, might have taken less work from Z to open things up because of that? Who knows

additionally i wanna call attention to how he said “That entire chapter of my life” which... leading into my next point a bit... strongly leads me to believe even though he’s remembering some things he definitely does not have ALL of his memories back (because theres a lot more than just the young justice ‘chapter’ of tim’s life that was drastically changed by the new 52 & rebirth) 

BUT moving on, i wanna bring up this part from later on (after they figured out that there was a crisis that caused things in the world to change, which is why their memories/brains were messed with) in issue #16

so yeah, I think it’s indicated even though Zatanna brought back some memories and opened up his brain a bit, there’s still many holes, and some things seem more like dreams rather than memories and he’s probably unable to tell which are which on his own to some extent. (also for reference the real thing that Tim thought was just a dream is... likely yj 1998 issue #1)

So based on the things i’ve brought up here (which are the things I remember off the top of my head, I could easily be accidentally leaving shit out LMAO i haven’t fully read through any of these books in at least 3 or more months now) I think it’s safe to assume that Tim definitely has a head start on getting back his memories before Death Metal happens, but that it was by no means a complete thing. So the after effects of Death Metal are probably just gonna... be a little less drastic for him vs most other people because it was already happening, but it’ll be kinda filling in the remaining gaps? 

And like you said he is absolutely one of the few people that already knew about about the timelines/the fact that these crises have happened and changed things, but pretty much all the other young justice characters are also aware that there was meddling in the timeline/that multiple timelines and alternate universes like this exist since they were all together as a group when it got explained (in like. yj 2019 #15 i believe is where most of the explaining happens) (and cass as well is aware of things to some extent because of her and steph’s interaction with Brother Eye) but the difference is that Zatanna didn’t go into everyone’s brains, so they aren’t dealing with the same memory things as Tim (and possibly Steph? because again Z DID go in her brain, she just wasn’t able to unlock all the same things as she did with Tim) 

but yeah in general i SO wish this was explored more, both in canon and in fanworks (fanworks tho... that can still happen >:3c). Memories hazily coming in for Tim while Kon and Bart are able to confirm or deny things, him dealing with conflicting memories and feelings about his past as they trickle in... like I think we’ll start to see these types of things moving forward across a lot of titles with Infinite Frontier (i BELIEVE dont quote me on this but I BELIEVE the person writing Damian’s upcoming solo had mentioned in an interview that the memories coming back of the other timeline aren’t going to be an all at once thing but will be more gradual for most characters) but the fact that it theoretically had already been happening for Tim for MONTHS and we only got that one crumb indicating it in #16 of it instead of any actual exploration makes me SAAAAAAD

Little late getting to these -- that's fully the fault of a class project I spent all of Monday/Tuesday and most of Wednesday working on -- but I finished my project and wrote up some long replies to these!

Nope! There are a few people who do know (other guides Andrew's met before, the Dryad, and I'd imagine the Witch Doctor knows something's up even if he doesn't know why), but none of them live in Purity Town proper, and the Dryad and Witch Doctor aren't the kind to participate in rumors or spread what isn't theirs to share. The old man is also aware just because he and Andrew have talked about their curses, but he's 1) not currently in town and 2) not going to share even if he were.

Most folks don't know much about Andrew in general; Becca probably knows the most out of the townsfolk, knowing a little bit about his family and where he's from (he has some pretty specific skills as a hunter that betray this, but he doesn't talk about his exact town of birth), but no specifics and certainly not time periods.

Andrew is good at keeping things quiet; he has to be.

I would actually appreciate if you didn't post to Pinterest -- usually I'm fine with people reposting with credit (several of the things I've posted to my DeviantArt have found their way to Instagram, for example) but Pinterest has something of a reputation for stolen art (things being reposted from another Pinterest post without credit this time, or credit being hard to view for users not logged in or just viewing through Google). So reposting elsewhere is fine (though if you repost to Reddit or Instagram, tag me at u/Ariibees or @Ariibees)! I'd just prefer my works stay off of Pinterest.

The terminology related to The Guide/Andrew/The Guardian/The World’s Core/The WoF is all confusing because on some level, they’re all the same being. Kind of like trying to talk about Jekyll and Hyde -- same guy, different looks/actions, haha.

For all intents and purposes, references to the WoF being the barrier/core/whatever behind or within which the spirits of light and dark are contained is equivalent to saying “these spirits are held trapped by the magic of the Guardian, who when summoned appears as the WoF.” I do break slightly from the official lore in how the WoF/Guardian/thing holding back these spirits works (mostly because I don’t really like the idea that the Hallow is a “temporary guardian” or whatever), but the basic concept of “these are trapped by [thing that makes up the WoF]” remains unchanged.

If “loony cultist” is a reference to something, I’m so sorry, but I’m lost on it. If you’re just talking about the lunatic cultist in a funny way, then yes, they’re in here as a very plot-significant character!

I had to google what meme you were talking about, but it did make me laugh.

Andrew’s most annoyed by the nickname because people do like to call him Guide, and for someone who’s dedicated his whole life to his role, it can get tiring. He doesn’t really *mind* being called Guide -- it’s fine, that’s what he is and as long as people are respectful of his job he’ll take what he can get -- but at the same time, he’d like for people to stop thinking “Aah! Monster!” or “Weird academic know-it-all” and just...treat him like a normal person sometimes. So he fights to be called Andrew. And...Malik comes along and gives him a nickname that he doesn’t like and doesn’t allow others to use, save for maybe a small group of people of which Malik is not a part. So, not cool, man!

People love to overcomplicate explaining shading/lighting, and if you wanted to you could certainly go on and on about reflections of light off the ground and shading colors and all sorts of things, but as I’m writing this at 1 AM I don’t really care to.

If you really want to get into shading, I see nice ones on DeviantArt or Tumblr from time to time, or you can always watch a YouTube video on it. Really, though, just keep at it, think about how the shadows should look and work, and you'll get better at it eventually and pick up new ideas on how it all works. (And this is coming from someone who is new to making comics and actually started as a painter.)

Purity Town’s shading comes down to this: simplicity. As much as I’d love to spend hours and hours redrawing the panels I don’t like and carefully shading every fold of fabric and painting detailed backgrounds, I’m a full-time college student and will be working full-time over the summer -- I don’t have the time. So, I cut corners: I reuse backgrounds or use brushes (see: bricks, trees, clouds) that make certain details easier, and I try not to obsess too much over panels I’m not fully happy with. Shadows go where they feel right, and light on the opposite side.

For shading, this comes down to making things quick and easy. For these last few pages, character shading/lighting has only been five layers. One hard light layer for the bluer soft shadows, one overlay layer for darker soft shadows, one linear burn layer for hard shadows, one soft light layer for soft lighting, and one overlay layer for hard lighting. I’ll often also make use of glow dodge layers for lighting, or change the color balance or add more hard/soft light layers if there’s a very heavy color filter on the scene (such as a celestial event, blood moon, or outdoors at night).

Using all the different layer types is essentially a cheat code to fancier lighting -- don’t want to use flat black? Boom, hard light or overlay or burn will give you colored shadows. Want to make your light brighter? Glow dodge will make it burn your retinas.

Sorry that this isn’t a very comprehensive guide, but in my mind, shading and lighting is really something that you pick up over time and it’s hard to sit down and write a guide for it without making it into a massive essay on art theory that I don't even know proper terminology for because I'm not an art student. Of course with some googling you’ll find *proper* guides for this sort of thing from art majors and the likes, and those can be super helpful and technical! But for Purity Town, I just sort of go with what feels right and what's easy to replicate.

Firstly, I’m happy to hear you’re liking the comic!

Secondly, those buttons are actually there due to the theme! (For those on mobile who can’t see it, I have the theme set to only display on desktop as I prefer the current mobile layout on phone.) I’m using the simple webcomic theme (a quick Google should tell you how to install it for yourself) -- except I’m not actually using it for the webcomic features; rather, it’s a case of “this is the most simple, nice-looking non-default theme I could find.”

The previous/next buttons are added by the theme with the intent that the blog is being used as a typical webcomic website, with nothing but comic pages being posted. However, I post asks and other art here too, and I do so with the intent that people looking at #Terraria or their dashboards in general will see it. So...I use html formatting to make the first/previous/next/last links, along with an index and chapter-by-chapter viewing (using /tagged/chapter##/chrono) so that no matter where you’re coming from, you can still navigate just the pages!

If you want to add just the previous/next buttons, I can’t really help you -- web development is not my area of study in the slightest. But you can check out the theme that they come from and if you want to install only them, you can surely find a tutorial on it somewhere!

(As a side note, the comments section is not from the theme, it’s from a site called Disqus. I don’t expect many people, if anyone, to leave comments, but since I link back to this site a lot and many folks don’t have Tumblr accounts, it’s an option I like to make available.)

Hiya! My hike was pretty nice; it was a short and easy one, but that was quite appreciated as the trail is unmaintained from November to April, and the trail was covered in fallen trees and quite rocky. Still had fun, though!

And for backgrounds, it depends! For indoors scenes (or outdoors scenes with buildings) I don’t tend to use references, outside of looking up things like “which side of a door is the handle on.” I will, however, integrate real-life textures (see: the quilt and rug in Guide’s house, the wood walls on the building in the background of this week’s page), and paint over paintings from the Terraria wiki.

For outdoors scenes, for simple backgrounds (such as foliage-heavy) ones, I typically don’t need references. I like the difference between detailed, lined indoor/man-made object scenes vs. painted, messy outdoor scenes. But for things like mountains, I do sometimes look up references to help with color choices and the likes.

The town’s layout is a bit strange in that depending on the scene, the background could be drastically different. One side of town faces more mountainside, one side faces the orchards/open hillside, and the other two sides face various degrees of open space and more mountainside/forest. References taken on top of mountains are helpful to get an idea of what degree of foliage I should include between the characters and the sky.

Though this is very specific to the town of Purity -- other towns/villages will have significantly different-looking backgrounds, even the foliage-heavy ones.

That said, what's even more helpful than looking at photos is looking at paintings. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is really good for getting an idea of how to draw grasslands and distant mountains, plus Studio Ghibli movies in general!

Zoe did it really well in Scarlet Lady where Alix knew the actual mythology and started blurting it out whenever Jalil got it wrong.

Considering “Ikari Gozen,” I imagine Alya and Kagami don’t get along as well. I agree with basically everyone that Marinette and Kagami not getting along is bad, but Alya and Kagami not really getting along makes more sense and is more tolerable.

Since Alya is Marinette’s “““BFF”““ (supposedly), I could see her kind of being like, “You’re competing with my girl over the same guy,” and keeping Kagami at arm’s length, worried that keeping Kagami close will allow Kagami to be closer to Adrien since Adrien is an extension of their friend group (kinda, sorta, not really, but Marinette calling him a friend so technically--)

You know, Alya trying to be a good friend and help Marinette with Adrien in more subtle ways. It’s the wrong way to go about it but she’s trying.

LUKANETTE IS AMAZING IN TERMS OF PROGRESSION KDJNGJDFG, I ADORE IT. Every episode they share together, we either learn something new about them or see more details on their relationship.

Ugggggh, the worst part is that I have the same exact fear that they really are going to be like yeah Ladybug you silly fool Chat Noir has been with you since the beginning!

I mean, we’re already basically getting that with the New York special; Chat was supposed to protect Paris and then didn’t tell Ladybug that he “had to” leave for New York (and the New York thing is inadvertently Marinette’s fault and parts of the fandom actually did blame her for it even though it was Chat’s choice not to say anything), then Ladybug gets upset with him when she discovers it mid-battle, which leads to Chat being distracted and Cataclysming someone (another thing that Ladybug can be “inadvertently” blamed for), then Chat gives up his miraculous so Ladybug isn’t even allowed to be angry and cue the later line of “I can’t imagine being Ladybug without... him.”

So clearly that’s saying something. Adrien doesn’t get anything close to that level and Marinette is chewed out for not asking him to stay when Nino had already asked him too.

It’s like--Marinette chooses to go after Adrien and then gets either nothing in return, or humiliated by the narrative, and then in the New York special, she decides to do nothing and everything still goes wrong while Alya yells at her for it. The “damned if she does, damned if she don’t,” on display is stunning. The girl tries to confess and it’s like, “no, not allowed, but Chat is allowed to confess.”

I still don’t understand this logic of his overarching plot but also “there’s not much of a timeline.” I think the only solid thing we’ve ever gotten was something about all the episodes in one season coming after all the episodes in a previous one, but there are still things that don’t add up? The only thing the season 3 production order will give is making sure the hero debuts work out (so no Viperion or Pegase before “Party Crasher,” for example).

It’s not really reliable. I mean, like--I’ve been experimenting with timelines for a while, and stuff like “Miraculer” baffles me. It’s basically non-canon with no value whatsoever. All it does is make “Heart Hunter” look even more confusing and treats Marinette even more horribly for not picking Chloe when she explicitly told Chloe that she wasn’t getting it back.

And yeah, I’m not really capable of not analyzing shows. There are some small exceptions, but they’re usually not full shows in the normal sense. If there’s an ongoing plot, my mind tends to be working at all times.

In terms of Miraculous, Season 1 was harmless enough where I was bothered but pretty quiet about it, but then it just got progressively worse. It really feels like one of those things you can’t unsee when it finally hits you, y’know?

Gonna go point by point here:

1 - Yeah, the whole thing with Homura not “being able” to save everyone... kinda questionable, and I didn’t really buy the arguments they used to explain it away. I think there was this one PSP game or something with Madoka Magica where you could kind of choose what happened (like, there were bad ends where Sayaka didn’t get her soul gem back in time and her body was partially decayed; ick) and I think there’s a good end where Homura saves everyone but--yeah, not canon.

I just don’t care for twisted stories like that unless there is actually a good end on the horizon (and I mean like “Everyone Lives and is Happy” good end). Angst is just so exhausting so the second I saw Mami’s head being bitten I was just like, “Ah, okay, so we’re doing this then.”

2 - Eugh, the sexism thing. It’s so... yeah, and especially this because the whole “girls are emotional” thing, I don’t really care whether or not the show is trying to “subvert” or “explain” anything, it just feels like poor taste and I don’t like it. (I also didn’t know about that Death Note thing because I didn’t watch it, but geez.)

3 - Wow, I’ve been away from the show for so long that I forgot what Mami’s wish was; I thought it was to “not be alone” or something (or maybe not die alone?? I really don’t remember), but either way, the fact that it follows some sort of genie wish logic is just--*sigh*--they’re teenage girls, come on (plus, the “genie wish logic” is really overdone to me anyway).

4 - The other thing about Sayaka is that it’s really predictable that she’d “die so quickly.” Basically everything was pointing to her just being annihilated at some point, and being Madoka’s best friend, it was pretty inevitable that she’d go.

Inuyasha kinda? Though Inuyasha and Kagome are definitely not the kind of romantic chemistry that I lean towards (I find “the bickering couple” to be rather exhausting). Plus, Cardcaptor Sakura did the “male tsundere” better than Inuyasha did (though the Clear Card Arc was terrible, at least it’s not canon kinda-sorta? idk it seems like a mix of the anime and manga so...).

I mean, there’s probably a couple more examples somewhere, but--yeah, I’ve got nothing. Maybe if I thought back to all the generic children shows I watched when I was little (like those old Disney live-action shows; I had no taste when I was younger), there might’ve been something that satisfied kid me but idk.

My main issue is Aang’s attitude about the whole thing. I’m not saying it was right of Katara to go out and get “revenge via murder” exactly, but I also think that Zuko had the right idea with allowing her to go and face the man who killed her mother so she could get some form of closure (also note that Zuko doesn’t express any sort of opinion when Katara decides not to kill him; he just wanted her to have whatever she thought she needed to heal).

It’s also the episode where Zuko directly confronts Aang on his “violence isn’t the answer” rhetoric which then goes completely ignored as Aang lionturtles his way out of the conflict. Aang is also not confronted on his point of “forgiveness is the first step to healing” (when Katara has a right not to forgive and Aang isn’t challenged outside of Katara commenting on it) and was permitted to ride his high horse when Katara “steals” Appa like, “It's okay, because I forgive you... that give you any ideas?” which is just--

reaaaaaally "holier than thou”-esque when Aang is like, ten, and Katara is a sort of motherly figure to him. The episode even has Sokka praise Aang for how “wise” he is and I groaned through the entire thing.

Another smaller thing is that it sort of makes the air kingdom look way too “perfect” by having Aang be the “source of wisedom,” especially when it’s like “violence isn’t the answer” while all the other airbenders are dead.

I remember a game night thing back then, Clue reinvigorates Celeste’s interest in murder mysteries and she honestly impresses Kyoto when she tricks Togami into revealing his cards (mainly questioning his truthfulness/credibility)

After that, Kyoto and Celeste try to find videos, games, and books of murder mysteries to solve, but with Celeste able to figure out who’s lying and Kyoto’s detecting ability, they’re unstoppable. Junko likes to nitpick the murder mysteries too, even though she likely has no idea who the murderer is.

After a while of their regular things being too easy, one day they walk into the kitchen area to find Chihiro and Sonia (again no idea if this is in character but her cosplayers are always cute) putting some fake blood on Ibuki. Makoto is upsetting the area, like knocking over the knife holder and such. They’re super confused, until Makoto says (very unconvincingly) “:O someone killed Ibuki!!! you guys gotta figure it out”

That becomes the new regular thing, like every other week they make a new murder mystery for the two and they have to solve it (including the fact that some stuff will be inaccurate, and just how the group thinks it would happen). Peko isn’t that fond of it, but she’ll do it if Chihiro gives her the 🥺 look, and both Miu and Leon absolutely love the chance to play characters (I forgot her name but if Peko does it, Tsumugi/blue hair will do it too, she just prefers to be the victim) - queer eye anon

and BDBSB YEAH THEY’RE SO SWEET?? Makoto came up with the idea, but Sonia and Chihiro are absolutely essential to the operation as a whole.

Sonia’s interest in serial killers provides a necessary take for the psychological perspective of real life cases, so they know for certain it’ll be stimulating for the detective of the two, meanwhile Chihiro’s brainpower allows for both creative and logical placement of clues, red herrings, and more!

Plus, all three of them are absolute sweethearts that most people have trouble saying no to <3 (they’ve even gotten Byakuya to participate once or twice! Celeste and Kirigiri were both delighted and bewildered!)

THEY ALSO GET OUMA INVOLVED BECAUSE HE’S THE ONLY ONE THAT EVER GIVES CELESTE ANY TROUBLE IN DECIPHERING LIES FHSBSBDBSBS (she usually gets it right on account of her own luck, and if she gets it wrong, It tends to be either salvageable or ambiguous enough that she can pretend she was right and nobody can tell they were ever on the wrong track)

Miu pretends like she needs fujisaki, nevermind, and naegi to beg her for her participation, but she’s honestly more than willing because!!! She gets to yell and be loud and have fun and play weirdos!!!! And sometimes she even invents new things for practical effects, just ‘cause she can! And she knows it makes her friends happy!

Leon’s a pretty good actor until Celeste stares him down - then he immediately either loses his nerve or fucks something up ❤️

They get Nagito involved a lot, both due to his luck and the fact that he’s very easy to convince (and often comes up with more cool ideas for the scene of the crime/evidence/general concepts!) though, if he’s involved, then Hajime needs to be as well, becauee everyone can only take maeda’s self-deprecating bullshit for so long until they need someone to shut him up hdbdbdbdb

Hiyoko acts like she thinks it’s dumb, but actually really wants to be included 🥺 👉👈 so mahiru takes it upon herself to “force” her into helping

Sakura and Hina love to help however they can! :D I don’t rlly have anything specific for them, I simply think they’re very cool and would be very eager to help because they love their friends <3

Sayaka is INCREDIBLE when it comes to thinking up “murder” plots! Motives, manipulation, the likelihood of certain actions being taken.....+ due to her high intuition, she’s able to discern what types of things kyoko and celeste prefer during their little games! She also provides insight into emotional response for the actors, which helps to make it a lot more immersive!

Mikan gets very very very nervous as a performer and is usually very unreliable in that aspect, but she gives pointers on whether or not certain wounds would be enough to kill a person! She also provides emphasis on vital organs and helps with anatomical accuracy!

Gundham adores being able to give monologues, and the three in charge of everything do their best to give him macabre, weird roles so he can speak and confuse the two girls to his heart’s content ❤️

if they ever need to talk to chiaki during an investigation, they usually need to wake her up, or get her to stop playing a video game (which she’s not supposed to be playing!!!!) in order to interrogate her (she also forgets a lot of the details and evidence she’s supposed to give them shdbsndbsnsb)

she also likes to give chihiro ideas for plots and things, though mostly uses her games as inspiration !

Shuichi and kyoko are friends so he’s like “yyyeah okay I’ll do it” and so by the same token, Kaede is automatically (and emphatically!) involved as well

Kirumi gets involved because if it’s a request, she’ll do it 💛 plus she kinda loves being involved with this stuff ngl jsnsbsn meanwhile ryoma is like this is dumb but if it’ll make u guys happy then I guess I have no choice

Maki’s pretty difficult to convince, ngl, but if kaito pesters her enough, she might drop by to give her two cents on some of the most plausible and effective methods of getting rid of evidence, as well as what she would do if she were in the position of the murderer (makoto and co. are like wow maki thank u very cool we are absolutely terrified)

shinguji makes it a point in the anthology to embarrass himself at the drop of a hat for his friends’ benefits regarding things like this, so they’re obviously in hbdbdbd plus they love being able to study kyoko and celeste’s behavior while working on each “case,” because without a doubt they are two of the most interesting specimens of human thought patterns and processes he’s ever SEEN <3

since it’s for the sake of two girls, Tenko’s very excited to do whatever Sonia or Chihiro asks of her (she’ll do things that Makoto asks, too, but it takes some convincing....) and Himiko.....isn’t a particularly convincing liar to begin with, but her experience with stage trickery comes in handy pretty often! (though they have to practically drag the information out of her shdbsndn)

Angie agrees to participate on the grounds that all of her characters get to bring up and endorse Atua. she gets picked for murder victim quite a lot bsbssbdb

also highkey 👀 the canon cases get re-enacted at some point (for the first game’s third case, they actually let Celeste be in on it as a little treat for Kyoko! it was absolutely bonkers and they both had literally so much fun!!!)

[ he is in two fandoms, in fact. he is both a fan-favorite from super mario rpg, the very first in the line of mario rpgs we’ve gotten over the years, and a pretty popular smash bros. request. he even got a mii costume in 4 and a spirit in ultimate as a result of the love. he’s very beloved, to the point that i’d, even as a geno fan myself, deem him a bit overrated. why? b/c where is all the love for all the other smrpg characters!!! they are all good. i love them all. ]

Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. [ i mean ?? i’ve met and seen many people who have/had crushes on geno so ??????? but i don’t think it’s like. that. ghfskjhgsg??? ]

Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. [ oh yes, he is undeniably very strong, both in personality and in battle. he is often seen as the level-headed straight man of the party in smrpg (which, in the case of my geno, is... semi-applicable LMAO), a star spirit with unwavering bravery and confidence. his in-battle stats are also pretty crazy, favoring geno as a glass cannon and enemy sweeper. he is also the only character in the game to have a move that will insta-kill any enemy besides bosses. well, and exor. idk why exor, but there ya go. needless to say, pretty much everyone in the fandom agrees that geno is a powerful mfer. why wouldn’t a literal, living star be? ]

Are they underrated?  YES / NO / IDK. [ as i mentioned before, there is no shortage of him being underrated in the fanbase. i’d even say he’s a little overrated. some people treat smrpg as ‘that game with geno in it’ rather than everything else it has going for it. i love star boye as much as the next gal, but pls appreciate smrpg as a whole. it’s such a vibrant game with a colorful world of characters to love. ]

Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO. [ he is actually, completely central to the plot. the subtitle of smrpg is legend of the seven stars, which directly relates to geno’s core mission: to find the seven star pieces and restore star road. the rest of the gang had different ambitions, but they all ended up banding together over geno’s objective. one could argue he mostly is the exposition-granter and could be replaced with anyone else, but i feel he’s irreplaceable. smrpg would be so different without him, like it or not. ]

Were they relevant for the main character? YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG. [ i wouldn’t say he is the protagonist, obviously, as that is very much mario’s spot. that being said, he is a pretty obvious deuteragonist for smrpg, given how much the plot revolves around him. he’s relevant to mario, for sure, as well as peach, mallow, and bowser. he’s relevant to many characters beyond them. he represents the fight for everyone’s wishes to be able to come true. he’s, uh... very relevant rofl. ]

Are they widely known in their world? YES / NO. [ the star spirits are somewhat known in the mario universe as entities capable of granting wishes, kinda like fabled gods with a tinge more evidence and reality to them. geno himself isn’t a known name, not like the seven star spirits of star haven, but his people are decently known. he, however, is not. ]

How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL. [ he is basically the epitome of ‘good’ until you overthink star society like i do lol. not all wishes can be granted, what constitutes as a ‘good wish’ is subjective, why some good wishes still can’t be granted anyway, etc. it puts him more towards neutral good with a dash of lawful and an undercurrent of chaotic, given his rebellion against his superiors. ]

How strictly do you follow canon?  —  i mean, it isn’t hard to be strict to mario canon when there isn’t that much of a foundation to work with anyway lol. it’s all rather simplistic until you get into the nitty gritty of it ??? that said, geno is built on a lot of headcanon. like, a lot a lot. star society and its rules for star spirits of his kind, his relationship with rosalina (a matronly figure), his relationship with the seven star spirits, the fleshing-out of his basic personality traits shown in smrpg, etc.? headcanon upon headcanon.

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  despite intrigue to learn more about the world around him, there is only so much that he does know. societal norms are often beyond him, and there are just so, so many earth hobbies he is not aware of. without handing him a bone, it makes him a little more limited than someone who’s more savvy. he is prime slice-of-life material, but that may also make things rather dull in an rp without an extra twist to spice things up. (thankfully, his being a total SNOT sometimes helps with that.) in canon and strictly in canon, geno doesn’t really have much personality, something that this geno has plenty more fleshed out. a good chunk of fandom finds him to be incredibly boring and droll, to which i personally disagree, as there are little things in smrpg that hint towards him having more to explore.

What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  funnily enough, seeing smash bros. fandom railing on geno fans + hyping him up all at the same time made me revisit smrpg after having only played it as a teenager. i expected geno to be a boring slate of nothing like fandom often portrays him, but i found that i was terribly wrong. with a newfound perspective on him, noting little details that defied my expectations for this li’l guy, i decided to give him a geno whirl and see what kind of expansion i could do with his character. the amount of lore i came up with him and started wondering about piled on and on and on, and i realized that he had so much more potential than what nintendo and square properly tapped into. (some of it is also a matter of being timely, though, meaning later mario materials such as rosalina, star haven, etc.) i wanted to flex out that potential and see how much i could fill this little doll up with, and lo and behold, i rp him today with extensive amounts of development poured into him with love. to put it simply, there was so much untapped potential that i wanted to share with the world, to show geno the love and in-depth exploration that he deserved, to show that he was more than what he was given.

What keeps your inspiration going?  —  chattering about mario lore with pals, whether it relates to geno or not, reading, watching shows or videos that remind me of him, learning more about cosmology and the universe we live in (and boy, i’ve learned a lot of neat stuff!), revisiting my childhood (the 90′s) since it’s very geno-appropriate, drawing The Boye, literally anything to do with playing, watching, or doing ANYTHING with smrpg/paper mario 64/smg1&2, and probs a lot more. i’ve got a lot of fuel in me for this guy lol.

[ sensitive to empathy and other peoples’ emotions, yes. i’m an insanely empathetic person, and i have a lot of love to give. that said, with only few exceptions, i have a pretty iron-clad skin. sometimes, i daresay it’s to the point that i often misjudge what other people can take, and i feel i can end up being too harsh and forward. that being said, it is also a good thing at times. harsh or not, if i feel a certain way about something, i make that shit known and i make it known as loud as it necessarily should be. i don’t beat around the bush; rather, if i have a beef, i will make that beef known. consequently, if i have love to give, you damn well better be ready to swim in a pool of hearts and your favorite kind of cookie (if applicable). ]

Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?  —  as long as it isn’t complaints with lack of substance/reasoning, yes! even if i may not always agree and may take things with a grain of salt, i am insanely receptive to criticism, even over the pickiest things. it’s something i’ve grown used to due to prior rp venues being particularly harsh. i will never throw a fit or act like a child if there is something i could do better with geno. in fact, there always will be! i’m not perfect, and i love to hear about ways i can improve and do better. it’s paramount in a hobby like this.

If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  that’s a’ight. i’m sure there are things about my geno that won’t resonate with everyone, especially given he’s a very sentimental character for old fogies like me lol. as long as there is no disrespect thrown this way, it’s all good. this stuff is subjective, after all.

If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  oh, a lot of people really hate geno lol, but i’m guessing this means personal portrayal only. in such a case, i would be curious as to why, admittedly, but i acknowledge that i am not owed anyone’s reasoning. if they really, absolutely hate my geno, then it’s their prerogative, whether they want to give a reason why or not. again, it’s all good unless immaturity and disrespect rears its head. i won’t tolerate that and will ignore any such behavior.

Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  —  sure, it happens to the best of us!

Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  i’d like to think that i am! i’ve often had people tell me that i’m very nice and mature, but of course, i have no right to say how i come off to other people. that is not in my territory to judge, only theirs. that being said, it’s not easy to upset me or anger me, and i’m more often willing to listen and pal around than not. i’m the living embodiment of (shrug). i am just (shrug).

I am reading the Rogue One visual guide and I’m going to ramble at you about it

Starting with Baze and Chirrut facts because nothing is more important than Baze and Chirrut

- The Guardians of the Whills believe very deeply in the Force but their cosmology doesn’t center any fight between light and dark and they believe mortal minds can ‘encompass the totality of the Force’ with the right training (seemingly even for non-Force sensitives). *thinks of a little green baby who’s going to need some help with his place in the universe one day and how reductive the light/dark side dichotomy can be* good to know good to know. yes everything eventually comes down to baby yoda and his poor stressed out dad. protect them

- “Opposites in balance. Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus share a homeworld and a history, although they strike a compelling contrast. Baze is a hardened pragmatist, while Chirrut’s faith flourishes even in trying times. They both claim to act as the protector of the other.” 

in every way they are #goals. bffs/partners to lovers is Everything. ‘They both claim to act as the protector of the other’ is very funny and very sweet and very true; my favourite thing

- this book describes chirrut as baze’s ‘best friend and moral compass’, which is a funny way of spelling ‘husband of 30 years’ but who am I to criticize 

- baze is just. he’s so good. they say here pragmatism is his biggest trait but you can tell how much love has been at the center of him (and probably continues to be under it all) from the totality of his rage. I don’t think you can be this deeply hurt without loving just as deeply first. (like chirrut says, he used to believe more than anyone and now he’s thrown aside literally everything about the guardians except chirrut) it’s like he’s suffered a moral wound just seeing what’s happened to his home and it won’t heal and it never does, he just loses chirrut too and then at least it’s over. jesus christ it’s so soul crushingly sad in a quiet undramatic way 

- “Though both are Guardians of the Whills, Baze and Chirrut could not be more different in their approach to combat. Traditionalist Chirrut still carries weapons associated with the ancient order, while Baze adopts an implement of modern warfare. Their methods suit them individually, and both are effective extensions of their distinctive personalities. Though Baze may chide Chirrut for his antiques, and Chirrut may decry Baze’s reliance on soulless tools, they trust each other’s defences to such weapons.”

- it’s implied baze’s hair used to be shorter when he was a Guardian! he’s just let it grow past what’s customary for them (and an excellent choice too his hair is wonderful)

- his repeating blaster is described as ‘modified and highly illegal’ hahaha

- chirrut built his own lightbow! apparently used to be a thing the guardians did to symbolize the end of their training. I wonder if baze used to have one too? even more I wonder if they’ve always been part of the same uh ‘divisions’ or what have you within the guardians, because I think there are some implications that baze has been more of an assassin/focused on violent conflicts even before the empire came and chirrut hasn’t

- this book does not adequately capture chirrut’s trickster/funny side, making me wonder how much of that was an addition by the actor and how much was planned out

- honestly... more baze & chirrut (well baze/chirrut let’s not play here) prequel books WHEN. what does their living room look like (because we do know they live together) how did they meet, when exactly did baze lose his faith and chirrut his sight, what was their first kiss like 

inquiring minds want to know (it’s me I want to know) 

- unless the wording is deliberately misleading here chirrut was not born blind (though he won’t discuss how he ended up this way) and he’s learned his current fighting technique over a prolonged period of time 

- bodhi is a bit of a gambling addict! and specifically one who’s pretty good at it; even after the empire knows he’s a defector he gets past their restrictions because he’s saved up all the credits/favours/even id-vouchers he’s owed by other imperial grunts fsdhfksdjf precious I love him 

- saw gerrera’s medical droid a) has been modified so its programming won’t stop it from being able to dispense drugs at dangerous intervals, b) professes sheer bafflement that saw is still alive and c) is ‘frequently deactivated to prevent it from building an ethical case to discontinue treatment’. I find the whole thing darkly hilarious.  

- there are literally whole subplots going on in the crowd scenes on Jedha about a mad evil surgeon who ‘decraniates’ people (essentially turning them into mindless servile husks with all of their head above the nose cut off, somehow), a masked cop from the Milvayne Authority who’s gone rogue to do the right thing and hunt him down against orders, a death cult, a bunch of different religious sects, a translation droid who has befriended a group of local orphans and shares his credits with them so they can eat and he’s SAVING UP FOR A PROCESSOR UPGRADE SO HE CAN BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND THE NATURE OF SPIRITUALITY ;_____; what the fuck I want a tv-series about this droid IMMEDIATELY 

- this book shows you just how crucial K-2 is as an asset and what a masterstroke cassian’s reprogramming of him is... and it says some very, very sweet things about cassian as a person under all the trauma and spy stuff that he essentially treats him as his best friend instead of a tool. cASSIAN he deserved to survive and have SO much therapy ;_____; ah well at least we’re getting a prequel series about him right? pls be good

- oh cassian was a proper separatist during the clone wars! he probably has some very interesting points of view about the republic pre- and post empire huh (this is what I love about the clone wars era; they have built SUCH a believable and interesting political world here, all shades of grey. there were separatists with very valid points even thought they were lead by a guy named COUNT DOOKU played by CHRISTOPHER LEE, the first sign that you should look inwards and ask yourself... wait are we the bad guys)

- it’s so much more understandable to me now who in the rebel leadership is for following jyn’s plan and who is not. (namely: the ministers of finance and industry are both Not Into challenging the empire directly, kind of understandably)

in depth description of weapons technology... I sleep. deep dives into the political structure of the alliance leadership and their backgrounds and motivations? I have never been happier

(this. sort of should have been in the actual movie tho things would have made more sense)

- BAIL ORGANA Leia’s actual dad out there lookin’ fiiine, being righteous and good, almost making me forget he’s going to die SO SOON oh fuck :( 

- orson krennic is, presumably straight faced, described as ‘a cruel but brilliant man’ which is PATENTLY LUDICROUS because krennic is by literally every indication a fucking idiot, he needs galen to do all the real work for him, he mouths off to DARTH VADER and then tarkin just effortlessly swoops in and fucks him over in the end, easily outmaneuvering him... orson krennic is a fucking loser I don’t care if he’s the one who introduced brutalist architecture to coruscant

lol lol lol *arrow pointing towards krennic’s head* ‘Keen mind dissects architectural puzzles and conspiratorial plots’ okay I see what happened here orson krennic wrote this book 

- oh galen erso is kind of one of the most interesting and heartbreaking characters in all of star wars. (and I do not say this just because of mads mikkelsen’s cheek bones) he’s incredibly intelligent but from a really poor family and wanted to eliminate the difference between rich and poor and invent a new form of infinitely renewable energy... and technically he did achieve that, except his old college buddy orson krennic immediately found a way to use his technology for genocide and he didn’t realize until it was too late :’) there is something so comforting in the fact that in the end galen still got the last laugh in the most epic but unsung way. he’s the sort of quiet Magnificent Bastard who doesn’t even care he’ll never get the credit as long as it worked. u did good on that one jyn

also several of the scientists galen is leading on eadu are in the same category as him -- captured and forced to work for the empire. so that’s great and not at all upsetting 

- galen and lyra’s falling in love story is kind of sweet (though naturally it pales against baze and chirrut’s whole deal but then who could compare) and the sheer effort and detail that’s gone into building the farmstead in the beginning we end up seeing for 5 minutes... dude (it feels very convincingly like somewhere a family would live though) 

- *sees that ‘databook’ is a concept that exists apparently; groans in fic research I thought ‘holodisc’ might do the job but maybe this is a better fit*

- I will say that my largest gripe with this movie is how glaringly unnecessarily male it is. there’s literally no reason for most of the rebels and ESPECIALLY all of the scientists to be male but here we are. 

well the stormtroopers could all canonically be any gender behind the armor so uh that’s. something lol

- despite being all desert-y jedha is apparently quite cool! temperature-wise I mean though the huge ancient statues lying everywhere are pretty awesome too

- wow stormtrooper armor really does just suck huh. it’s like ‘well it might protect you from a blaster bolt if you stand upwind and angle yourself just right, who knows’. I guess this is why everyone and their grandmothers are drooling over mando’s beskar lol

- star wars’ insistence on sticking to single-biome planets is so silly and I love it. stick to that incomprehensible world building decision lucasfilm I respect you

- mon mothma! basically the most important character in the star wars universe who most people won’t know about lol she’s like the anti-palps. for the most part she is one of the most Big Goods in all of star wars (along with bail) but also she’s played by the actress who voices moira in overwatch so I do instinctively distrust her whenever I hear her talk haha. called palpatine a ‘lying executioner’ to his face which is both admirably bold and remarkably restrained, considering all the things palpatine is.

- oof the two people mentioned the most on anakin/vader’s pages are palpatine and obi wan. that’s. hurtful and bad and awful. the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was making me watch ‘clone wars’ because watching ‘clone wars’ actually made me care about anakin skywalker :(

Hey there! Thank you so much, that’s really kind! And no, it hasn’t been answered... but I’m afraid I don’t have much of an answer to give you!

I really do love Gorillaz as a whole and I definitely like all of the characters, but I don’t have very specific or detailed headcanon about Russel, Noodle, or Ace. Particularly in Russel and Noodle’s case, part of the issue is that they come across, to me, as much more sensible and much more likable than Murdoc and Stu. I don’t feel any guilt in pouring over the latter’s flaws-- but I also think, to pluck out two characters who are canonically POC, female, or queer in some way and say “They’re just good, overall good, no particular character faults to speak of” can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, you feel a bit less justified in talking them down than you do the straight-ish white guy (Stu), or Murdoc who is very clearly and canonically meant to be Just The Worst-- but on the other hand, it’s disheartening to be given underrepresented characters in media and then just have plotlines Happen To Them while they aren’t treated as very rounded characters. I certainly think the characters all have flaws, for me it’s a bit infantalizing to treat them as purely innocent, but I’m less eager to dunk on them, I suppose!

My general impression of Russel is... less fun than others, haha. I think Russel is sensible and stable almost to a fault, I think he has a bit of “ego” in an entirely different way from Stu. Russel doesn’t present himself as cocky and overconfident, but he’s difficult to relate to in conversation and he doesn’t try to stoop to Murdoc or Stu’s level for their benefit. He’s fine with everyone feeling an aura of him frankly being classier, more talented, and more purposeful in his words than they are. Russel is, I think, an honest person and doesn’t put on airs, but that comes at the expense of alienating him from his bandmates as he recognizes they don’t understand his experiences and he isn’t interested in changing his manner to be better understood by them. None of that is to suggest Russel is a mean person or even an especially cold person, but he’s just... through the lens of Stu especially, someone you feel intimidated talking to who doesn’t go out of his way to “bend down” and see eye to eye with you. Overall, this just tends to result in Russ being present but not always feeling like a peer. He’s respected and he’s appreciated, and in a crisis Russel in the one you want, but day to day in Kong I think Russel seems like he belongs somewhere better. Whether or not he thinks that himself... debatable, but I’d wager not most of the time. I think there has to be a reason he joined and a reason he stayed despite the absolutely maddening situation between Stu, Murdoc, and Paula in Phase Zero.

Russel cares about making “art.” I imagine him as almost overly principled, almost principled in a way that has limited his connection with others. He values a statement, a plan and an ideal, and I think he valued what Gorillaz could be as a disruption to the music industry and the concepts of segregated genre and celebrity worship. I don’t think his ambition looked the same as Murdoc’s; Russel didn’t try and try again to form bands, he didn’t do auditions for permanent lineups and mainly played in a limited capacity on offer only. He loved music and he centered much of his life on seeing and experiencing music on a wider scale than the average musician, but he wasn’t interested in making music with someone else longterm without an incentive. I think Russel had perhaps set this... nebulous, unspecific, maybe even unknown bar for what he needed in order to interact on such a constant, daily level with other people. (Given his history with Del and the others, it’s generally his preference to keep distance.) While Russel was and is a longtime fan of activist hip hop, Gorillaz was intriguing as it could be so many things at once. Gorillaz could make political or social statements and at the same time be unrestricted by genre; they could be synthpop, they could be R&B, they could be hip hop, they could be punk. Gorillaz could be something that engaged Russel and allowed him to experiment, while also justifying, perhaps a bit loftily, that it meant something. Simply put, it was something new. Something that he wanted to see through.

None of that is to suggest the band aren’t friends, Russel and Murdoc in particular I think get on well in their own way as Russel feels rather unpressured by Murdoc to be “accessible” and change anything about his interactions, and whatever intimidation Murdoc might feel he’s able to keep to himself. Murdoc’s just not a guy to let that sort of thing show and certainly not let it effect him getting what he wants. Because I HC things a little more realistic, I think at most Murdoc maybe misleads Russel in order to get him to check out his band, as opposed to kidnapping him out of a record shop. I don’t think Russel would have jumped at the opportunity to be around Murdoc all that much, or Stu once he met him, but their combined oddness (and general preoccupation with each other) sort of allows him to exist in a space that doesn’t challenge his comfort for the first year or two. I think Noodle’s addition to the band is really the point where something takes a turn for Russel, as he comes to recognize an even greater ��purpose” in the music and in his contribution to “something that mattered”-- Noodle was so young but so full of promise, they barely spoke the same language but she was so adept at communicating through the music, she was someone he needed to step outside of himself for. It was... important to Russel, I think, observing and at times guiding her along her own path to experiencing and creating music in a way that was truly unseen before. I think Russ is proud of what he’s done with Gorillaz, and the top of that list is Noodle herself.

Uh, not anymore unfortunately. When i was in middle school, i played basketball, volleyball, did cheerleading, and was in running club. In highschool, i did cross country in the fall, and i think that's it lol, since i was mostly obsessed with doing theatre lol. I realy liked building the sets and painting, and being on running crew lol. If i ever decided to join a sport, it would be either soccer or beach volleyball, since those seem the most fun. Uhhh, it's kinda complicated.

I like makeup as a concept of freedom of expression, feminity, a way of transforming yourself into a piece of art, blurring the lines between gender ideals, presentation, makeup for fantasy concepts, etc.

But i also dont't like makeup sometimes because it's def been used as a tool to pressure women into performative feminity, used, as a way to groom young girls, used a sneaky way of breaking down a lot of ppl's self confidence, it encourages highly unrealistic beauty standards (for both women and men), i also hate how motherfucking EXPENSIVE and unsustainable it is.

So as a tool for art, genderfuckery, and self-expression, i love it. But as a msrketing concept mostly driven by male CEOs and years and years of misogny and captialism? Not so much lol. I like wearing makeup for big occasions or for when i feel hyperfeminine some days, but I usually prefer going without it.

Yeah, to a reasonable extent lol. I'm not one of those queer that obsesses over every little detail tho. I'm still def learning about it. I recently lesrned that you can combine astrology, with tarot readings, which can greatly specifiy the readings, for both yourself and other people, so I think i'll try that once I get a tarot deck for my birthday lol.

🎁 Fave holiday?

Well, I could be one of those queers who automatically says Halloween, but the more i think about it, i think i like the fall/halloween season waaayy more. Which makes me think that I actually like Thanksgiving a lot, as just, an American holiday. I don't think we shoukd really celebrate it for it's historical reasons, but i also will never say no to good food, family, friends, and a general warmth and sense of peace during that time of the year :3

💞 Fave thing to do on a first date?

Festivals!!!! I looooovee going to any type of market, festival, etc. with someone. I think it's a great way to explore, start conversations, and learn about someone. Cuz like, the type of art, food, trinkets, and music that draws someone in can you a lot about that person, if you think about it! It's hella cute. And then once you're tired of the crowds, most festivals usually have quiet garden or parks near them that you can escape to for some quiet time and deep conversations, lol.

No, I don't have a girlfriend lol. I have an amazing and very caring boyfriend tho. I have briefly dated women in the past tho. It's been fun, lol. I've always wondered, if i had more past romantic/sexual experiences with women, then maybe i'd possibly identify as a lesbian, but honestly, I'm proud of my journey, and I get very happy when I think about my bigender-ness and bisexuality lol. Help me - I accidentally built a world.

So, I was plotting out an interesting ABO variant story (SPN) - my very first exploration of ABO, and I decided I needed a patriarchal theocracy setting to fit in with the ABO story concept I had in mind. I was playing with creating a new AU from scratch, but then said:

“But SPN is supposed to be about the American midwest - I wanna keep it in the midwest. Hmmm, how could I end up with a patriarchal theocracy in the US midwest?  Oh, and I’m a gonna need a more ‘typical’ US for my characters to ‘escape to’ as well.”

3 weeks and several discussions with friends and family later (including a sketchy map drawn in a restaurant), I found that I had created a complete alternate US (and Canadian) historical timeline (based on a different outcome of the US Civil War) - with Monsters. Oh and THREE countries (ok, technically 5) instead of just two.

Today I made myself WRITE IT DOWN. If you’d care to peruse a description of my recent madness, feel free to read below the cut. It is STUPIDLY detailed for the fanfic I have in mind - and at this point, contains no ABO references. That’s TOMORROW’s task.

ALL apologies to actual historians and anyone from Canada. I am a European medievalist historian *at best*. While this is SORT of based on actual dates/events, I played really fast and loose with history...and I can DO that because this is FICTION and I am the AUTHOR (ne:god). Feel free to yell at me in the comments - or blog about it if you are really incensed intrigued.

At the start of the story (2000ish), the North American Continent is divided up into three sections:

The Northern Alliance [two countries - the northern US (the Union) and Canada],

The Confederate States (southern US states plus a few midwestern ones), and

The Republics of California (CA, NV, & HI) and Texas (TX, AZ & NM) [Technically 2 countries]

These are distinct governing entities (countries) with distinct socio-political cultures who actively control border crossings and trade between one another. It has been this way for roughly 100 years.

Continental History

Civil war ended in a very bloody ‘draw’ between the Union and confederacy, Lincoln having been assassinated just after the Proclamation of Emancipation in 1863 resulting in [unspecified military decisions] and increased horrible losses on BOTH sides. Lincoln’s VP (Hamlin) died of winter illness at Fort McClary just before the assassination, and the newly appointed VP was a coward [need a name], who, injured during Lincoln’s assassination, became quite fearful for his life (PTSD?). In addition, [misc horrible war stuff happened- supernatural flavor]. This caused the VP to requested peace talks by the fall of 1863 during which the North agreed to the secession in order to stop the war.

The war treaty divided up the western territories along 42nd parallel, splitting Nebraska in half, and abandoning Kansas to the CSA. The south keeps all of MO and TN, but gives up KY and WV.

CSA attempts to “keep” CA, Union insists it has always been free (this wealthy state is big bone of contention in the war treaty discussions) but eventually CA declares loudly that it is NOT CSA, and if the Union can’t keep them, they’ll survive on their own just fine, thank you (Republic of CA). The border between Oregon (Union) and CA is WIDE open/comfortable and after a bit, CA forms a close partnership with the Union. CA claims HI almost immediately.

In 1898, Texas pleads with CSA for support to Cuba and Caribbean against Spain and is refused. Always more strongly sympathetic to Hispanic cultures than the deep south, Texas closes its eastern border and declares secession. CSA, still poverty stricken and lacking in forward-thinking leadership, has been having trouble managing its southwestern territories (full of ick, dark skinned mexicans and runaway slaves) and allows TX to leave, in the process giving up both New Mexico and AZ to TX.

TX then forms an alliance with CA who has meanwhile, essentially annexed Nevada from the CSA. Utah’s Mormons then beg to join as well soon after, but the CSA staunchly keeps Colorado and Nebraska. (This is all sorted out by WWI.) As both CA and TX wish to remain essentially autonomous, they each become “republics” with regularly negotiated treaties. The Texas republic’s northern borders are only lightly patrolled, but all ‘darks’ tend to avoid the CSA states. The border between CA and the Union’s Oregon & Idaho is similar to modern day Canada and the US. Texas’s eastern border is *tightly* patrolled/guarded (but water entry by the gulf or land entry by Mexico is significantly easier.) Texas remains antagonistic towards the CSA.

The Union/AU also struggled to recover after war (lack of leadership, access to western resources - lack of cross-continental rail - and the lack of the opportunities from a beaten south) and moves to form closer alliance with Canada. The Union (Renamed the American Union after the war) fosters discontent with British “Dominion” status and encourages Canada to sever ties with Britain (Edward VII) in the 1900’s. Together they become the Northern Alliance of States and Provinces (NASP) often just called “The Alliance”. Borders between Provinces and States are completely open/equal).

Together they negotiate with Russia for Alaska (and increase access to fossil fuels) and Alaska becomes (and remains) an “Alliance territory.”  The Alliance/Union has almost no ties to the Republic of Texas except through the Republic of California. Relations are strictly business between them.

Monsters/the supernatural has always existed and different cultures have treated them differently (gods, vermin, partners, etc.) - often with different rules for different types of monsters. Witches and warlocks and those who ‘just study’ magic are also treated differently. Hunters and the MOL have always existed to study/control the supernatural and are generally paid/supported by the community (equivalent to police, military, bounty hunters or pest control, depending.)

The Alliance (American Union & Canada) “Unionists” vs “Canadians”, “The Union” (or AU) vs “The Provinces”

Essentially like 1990’s Northern US - culturally, politically, socially, etc. More folks speak French. About the same number speak Spanish. By 2005, cell phones are still pretty simple and for the wealthy. Personal computers and the GUI internet are beginning to take off.

The AU government seat was moved to NYC and then Albany after the war. This puts it only 5-6 hours from Ottawa (Canadian capital).

The AU maintains positive relationships with CSA border states (VA, TN, MO, KS, NB), but chilly relations with the CSA government as a whole. They are very cautions about sharing technology with the CSA and are, in part, the cause of their slow entry into modern technological society.

Monsters are classified as pests, pets, wild animals, domestic animals or humanoid in the Alliance and laws differ between classification. Hunters are prohibited from dealing with humanoid monsters (that’s a job for the police) and only deal with the other classes. Almost all ghosts are considered pests or pets for legal purposes.

The CSA (Confederates, Statesmen)

“White, male, god-fearing” leadership passes laws that treat non-whites (darks - including native americans and hispanics) as inferior humans although outright slavery technically ends due to limited #s remaining.

All women remain 2nd class citizens (although some functional matriarchs exist, they are rare and have ‘beard’ husbands). Women rarely work outside the home, have no vote and birth control is illegal.

A strong “clan” culture is developed - focusing power in extended families (at all social levels) and to be clanless eventually becomes barely one step up from being ‘dark.’

The CSA struggles after the war, slaves escape in droves and recovery is very slow. CSA draws heavily on Texas and western areas for resources, while western settlement slows significantly, leaving its western territories very disorganized into 1900. Technology development is slow, by 2000 the CSA is developmentally stuck in the 50’s/60’s  - struggling to computerize systems. Thus it is easier to become someone else/hide who you are in the south, but as clanless, you will never fit in.

Florida uses an influx of hispanics/Cubans and caribbeans as a resource - indentured servants and blackmarket slaves to CSA southern farms. This prompts these refugees to aim for much more accepting TX (see TX secession above).

Nebraska & Colorado territories are redrawn immediately after the war and Kansas is expanded north to the 42nd parallel (now bordering the Union at the Dakotas) - sort of as a “sop” to Kansas. Kansas tends to be way less conservative/racially biased than the more southern states (and antagonistic to the CSA government) and routinely ignores CSA border regulations for Provinces. An easy exit/entry into the CSA is through Kansas’s northern border.

Oklahoma remained Indian Territory - no man’s land (very dangerous for outsiders), even today. Good place to hide - if you can survive.

Monsters/the supernatural are worse than ‘darks’ - Hunters have the right to kill any/all on sight. Hunters are usually part of a clan, and are paid for their services by the community. Individuals or remote communities can hire clanless Hunters, but the pay is much less, and they are seen as untrustworthy or a necessary evil, generally. Witches and warlocks are treated as monsters (and thus avoid the CSA) - UNLESS you are in the Appalachians, where they are a quietly revered part of society.

The Republics of California and Texas (RCA and RTX) “The Twin Republics” or “The Twins” - “Republicans” [NEVER Californians or Texans unless you are specifically referring to folks from that specific area of the Republic] ‘northern’ or pacific republican vs gulf or texmex republican (never “southern” republican).

The cost of living is VERY high in either Republic unless you wish to either ‘live off the land’ (technically illegally) or enter ‘public service’ (essentially, a lifetime of minimalist servitude to the government/public sector, unless you can come into wealth some other way.)

The joint RCA and RTX borders are completely open. They agree to abide by each other’s laws (marriage, legal contracts, etc.) and extradition. Trade between them is healthy and strong.

By 2000, the RCA passes a monster bill of rights requiring them to abide by human/living laws  or face imprisonment/other penalties. Some monsters work in public service to work off their crimes. Monsters are NOT to be killed without due process (including ghosts). Hunters are strictly licensed and regulated, and both Berkeley and Stanford have renowned monster cultural study programs.

In general, the RCA has laws/rights similar to what CA has in 2017 re: racial, gender, sexualy diversity. Pot is legal. Witches and Warlocks are also strictly regulated - but it is essentially a service industry job like any other. Technologically, they are more advanced than RTX or the UA - by 2005, smartphones and tablets are all the rage.

(RCA) NV - “What happens in NV, stays in NV.” It is a VERY good place to hide/party/become someone else.

(RCA) UT - an odd mix of religious sects  - both conservative and accepting. More conservative near Colorado/Nebraska, less so next to Nevada.

The RTX does NOT give access to due process to monsters, but prohibits public/unregulated killing. Hunters are required to bring monsters to quarantine/incarceration centers (where they are “rehabilitated, exported or humanely disposed of). Because of this, some border hunters “release” monsters in to the RCA instead. RTX does not care - less work for them.

In the RTX, Witches and Warlocks are expected to deal with supernatural threats, but may call in Hunters to ‘assist’ in dangerous cases. “The dead should stay dead” is the RTX opinion of the matter.

In general, the RTX has laws/rights similar to what CA had in the 1970’s re: racial, gender, & sexual diversity, except pot is legal (because they can export to the RCA). Technologically, they are similar to the Union.

Overall, rules (or adherence to them) in the RTX are more rigid the closer you are to the eastern TX border and less so in NM and AZ (the closer to CA).

whaddup guys, so today we’re going to be talking about the  frequent wave of UNDERESTIMATION / OVERALL DISCRIMINATION of lois lane within her history & canon. this covers the topic of the often disgarding of non militant/combatant/etc. female characters that lack traditionally ‘masculine’ attributes of heroism. obviously this doesn’t even cover the further damage done to wocs throughout comic history, especially those in scientific/professional/etc. fields that AREN’T always physically kicking but are victimised anyways since lois is a white woman & has a significant amount of privilege within canon because of that - while her female, non-white characters are treated even worse then she is by the yt greasy male assholes of the world. ( while we’re on the subject robert kanigher can go die in a hole for how he treated black women in his material but anyways )

even at her conception, lois’ primary purpose was literally as a plot device to have superman show off his powers. LITERALLY, if you trace her comic history, from the 40′s-50′s, especially from that batshit lsd-infused overall sexist racist haze of an era called the silver age, you can tell that for the most part, the PRIMARY essence of her character was established when a woman was in charge of writing / editing the issues ( gb dorothy woolfolk !! ) 

 most often, it is these early-age issues that people use to express their DISDAIN for lois lane & her character, reducing her to either a damsel in distress constantly in need of saving, OR a manipulative, controlling, immature woman who either wanted to a. marry superman or b. gain personal glory to feed her ever-growing ago. i’m NOT EVEN making this shit up. just google the cover pages of her pre-modern age appearances.

this line of visible disrespect toward’s lois’ character nuanced throughout the 70s-80s, eventually, in the golden age - although full of common stereotypes/scenarios associated with conventional / sexist ideas of marriage as she & clark were finally allowed to have a HEALTHY, long-term, balanced, & relatively equal relationship for the first time. this continued to dissolve throughout the 21st century into rebirth ( ignoring n52 lmao ). as far as MEDIA portrayals go - that speaks for itself, as it’s hollywood & hollywood has pretty much never produced a problem-free edition of lois lane in its life, even if it seems / starts off as decent, she is OFTEN pushed aside for bigger, better, & badder characters - the big bad lex luthor, the renowned inter galactic villian of darkseid, the more conventionally heroic wonder woman, etc. etc. the most respectful i can honestly think of are smallville & the dceu lmao.

ANYWAYS, back to her character - lois has over the years been granted a considerable amount of agency, enough to build a solid, brave, fearless, intrepid, intelligent, ass-kicking reporter she is - however, as remnants of the early days continue to resurface, is continually affects how lois is percieved as well as FICTIONAL WOMAN AS A WHOLE - you have to consider the historical significance of lois as a character, perhaps one of the most iconic in comic history alongside superman, the ORIGINAL template for a damsel in distress every mayo-covered, musty ass, male pig has used since to make the hero look strong & the woman look helpless. her existence shaped the conception & view of female comic book characters from the start.

AS A RESULT, lois is continually disrespected / underestimated by people today because of her traditional circumstance & characterisation. all of her good qualities are CONSTANTLY framed to be weaknesses because she lacks the conventional traits of a female hero - namely, visable muscle, a sexualised costume, actual super-powers, beating up someone in every other panel, etc. etc. so let’s talk about these traits / cirstumances used against her, shall we?

first off, let’s talk about how yes, even in modern day - LOIS LANE DOES NEED SAVING. typically by superman, she often finds herself in situations that would otherwise prove fatal if she didn’t get help. however, i’d like to just say that lois, even from her first comic & tv appearances, has proven herself to be more then physically capable of kicking peoples’ ass / getting herself out of these situations. nowadays, its namely in circumstances of national terrorist groups & multimillion dollar business cults that render her unable to properly act. 

despite this, people continue to act as if she is simply a. taking advantage of the convenience of superman in relation to her, or b. if she gets herself into dangerous situations but doesn’t have the guts to handle it herself & chickens out at the last second. both of these are fundamentally untrue because of her nature & her job as a reporter. lois has never taken advantage of clark & never would. secondly.. the fact that some people critsize her for crying out for help when she’s literally about to die is just fucking...stupid, man, like tf would you do ? i mean ? seriously? SERIOUSLY ?

the second primary reason lois is underestimated is because people often frame her to be unimportant / ineffectual to the story. her heroism is discredited because she doesn’t just use actions- she uses words, her greatest weapon. time & time again, lois is the one to uncover the vital TRUTH - then, the heroes are able to fact. however, she is constantly pushed to the side - by fanboys/girls, by film studio executives - to make way for the more ‘obviously’ heroic characters of the story. take bvs, the most recent & obvious example ( im not mentioning jl because that would involve another subrant abt jo.ss whe.don & i do NOT have time for that bullshit rn )  

she was INSTRUMENTAL to the story, she figured out the truth before batman, aka ‘the world’s greatest detective’ did, she was the one who DEFEATED lex luthor, the ultimate villian of the story, who saved superman’s life, who went to any length possible for her story, who avenged the lives taken in nairobi that will haunt her for the rest of her life - who earned the respect of bruce wayne himself because she’s lois ‘ big guns ‘ lane & nothing less. but most of this ? yeah, pretty much cut for time instead of all that other needless male bullshit or needless fighting scenes that could’ve been shortened but didn’t bc apparently guys like that more then actual plot but idk.

BASICALLY, lois joanne lane is a fucking hero. idc what u think about it, i COULD go into more detail but im not beause im tired lmao, tl;dr, lois lane is one of the most influential, iconic, revolutionary female characters to have been created in the 20th century & her legacy & storyline continues to inspire people today, so she does NOT deserve to be as disrespected & pushed aside as she is. & that’s the fucking tea.

japan week three ➜ ryosei’s summer thanks event

on july 16th, i had the chance to attend ryosei (8th inui)'s summer event & meet him!!

this was more of a just for fun ~i want to give back to my fans~ kind of event rather than one commemorating the release of a DVD or photobook or the like. i had no idea what to expect, but it ended up being sooo much fun!! this is my favorite event i attended.

i was sitting in the middle of the very first row of the venue, which was both nervewracking and wonderful. the venue wasn't full, but there were still a lot of us, and everyone had so much energy and was so nice!! it felt really cozy and fun.

the event kicked off with a talk section between ryosei & the MC, as well as a Q&A from the fans. they mostly went over ryosei's work within the past few months... when his hatsukoi monster character was brought up, the MC said ryosei kinda was like his character (a crazy fanboy of a young boy who dresses like a cute girl) and called him a pervert... ryosei didn't deny anything and even said "yes i'm pervert-san i look forward to working with you"... i... don't even... know...

when talking with the MC, ryosei was so loud and chatty, but when answering fans' questions he does this ADORABLE thing where he gives these really long detailed answers, and his voice gradually gets lower as he talks more & more... he would ramble a little and it was ADORABLE. i really appreciated him putting so much thought into his answers to fans' questions.

my favorite question was when a fan asked him about makeup.

Fan: "having been in tenimyu, you had to do your own makeup for 2 years. how is it to leave that work to makeup artists now?"

Ryosei: "you know, makeup artists do a great job, but there's moments where i have to tell them things like, that's not my foundation color, you made my face darker than my neck!! or things like that."

i thought that was really interesting bcuz i always had been curious about that; some tenimyu boys are so skilled at doing their makeup, and then you see how they look when other people do it for them, and... well.

being in the first row and sitting near where ryosei was, i felt like he was looking in my direction so often and it was so intimidating!! he's such a chill guy but he's also so beautiful and tall... he is. SO beautiful. i was especially happy because most of his freckles & beauty marks were visible thanks to how light his makeup was hehehe... also he has the most amazing cheekbones and these GIGANTIC hands actually that might be scary more than anything

he then brought his guests in: kodai (8th taka), tsuji (3rd higashikata) & . the guests were announced way after we got the lottery results & our tickets, so i was so amazingly happy that i'd get the chance to see kodai & tsuji.

the first thing they did together was this adlib skit competition. the MC would give them a specific prompt and then they each had to come up with a skit about it. the crowd would then vote for our favorite one.

the themes were: - you're the teacher and your student just graduated; - confessing to your childhood friend; - you confess but the person is already taken.

ryosei won the first one, but kodai won the other two!! he was just so pure and good it's no wonder... ryosei was like THIS IS MY EVENT WHY ARE YOU ALL VOTING FOR HIM ughhffjcsg

tsuji would get embarrassed & laugh in the middle of each of his skits, it was so cute!!

i really liked their skits for the third one. kodai's was like, "ah, really? well, that's fine!! i wish you all the best!!" while ryosei's was, "oh, okay then. bye. *turns & walks away*". i laughed SO hard. i feel like there was truly this dating game pattern of kodai being the sweet harmless guy, tsuji being the awkward goof & ryosei being the flirty, crazy and rude one. XD

then it was time for the performance numbers. okay, i really had NO idea any of this would happen AT ALL. it was kinda shocking...

so, ryosei & tsuji start talking about how they both love kpop... (a thousand red alarms go off in my head)... and how they... learned a choreography... (by then i'm already ready to die of embarrassment)... and so...

ryosei & tsuji did this entire dance cover complete with lipsynching of BTS' i need u? live on that stage? while i was in the first row? i'm still mentally scarred honestly?

but the worse is that. i actually. really enjoyed it. they're both really good dancers and were seriously going hard on that stage and they're both very tall you know... so when they did those sexy body rolling & neck touching & etc moves i was like OHHH. NOOOOOOOO

i honestly wish they had recorded it because despite how scarred i am i would definitely have rewatched that 488558 times. ryosei's legs...

afterwards all four of them sang kiseki by green boys? it was really pretty. ryosei did the rap part and it was so funny he is such a goof... however tsuji definitely stole the show with his wonderful singing~ poor ryosei keeps getting outshined at his own event...

afterwards, ryosei introduced his college friend, one of the first people he met after moving to tokyo. i thought it was really cool and sweet of ryosei to have invited this totally normal guy to his event! his friend was so quiet and shy, it was so cute to watch them.

the reason why ryosei had invited his friend was so he could play the guitar as ryosei sang his own songs. yes!! ryosei is apparently an amateur singer-songwriter now!!

it was a very heartfelt and sincere and lovely moment. ryosei isn't the best singer out here, but he still sounded so sweet, and the songs were really emotional. the second one was about going back to your hometown, coming home. when ryosei described his feelings behind the song, a lot of people in the crowd teared up, ryosei made fun of us!! (and then teared up himself while singing it.)

afterwards, it was time for us to meet ryosei. we could take a cheki, talk to him & personally hand him our letters.

what i thought was really cool about this event is that the cheki was included in the base price ticket. a lot of events require you to do crazy things or spend a ridiculous amount of money to get a cheki. (i bought 3 photobooks to get my cheki with zaiki LOL)

as expected, ryosei was so incredibly calm and casual. he greeted me and we took the cheki, please take note of how huge his hands are next to mine when i already have rather large hands... it was almost scary to watch girls and their small hands doing heart shapes with him i'm terrified

i told him how much i loved all of his roles especially jek and jouetsu and orion and INUI!! and how i've been supporting him from canada since he debuted in tenimyu and how i love his ""energy"" on stage (idk how to compliment extra-ness in jp).

he held my hand very firmly and warmly and he's sooo quiet and calm, idk why he does this thing where he's constantly yelling at his friends but basically whispers to his fans but it's so sweet... he is so beautiful and his soft face looks like cookies & cream what with his freckles... and his big smile is so cute!! he looked really surprised when i gave him my letter, maybe he didn't expect me to be able to write XD

i then went out to the goods area. honestly, i regret not buying more things. his photosets were GORGEOUS, the concepts, poses, expressions, outfits, image quality, everything were so much better than the bromides i got from everything & everyone else this month. no offense, but...

the cutest thing was the collection of cheki on sale. there were hundreds of unique shots: all hand signed & captionned by ryosei. i regret only getting one of them... i'll share higher quality pictures of the goods i got at this event at a later date.

as i mentioned, this was the objectively best event i attended this month. ryosei isn't even one of my top 10 actors or anything, but he's such a charming & entertaining guy. i'm really thankful to have met him & glad he treated me so kindly. i hope i can see him again!!!

IN CHARACTER INFORMATION

Desired character: Charles Zerilli. What first appealed to me was the heir of a Detroit Mafia sotto capo thing. That’s quite the kind of character that gets me going, to be honest. I played it a couple of times before, and every time I get a chance, I do it again and again and again. But passed that, I kinda fell in love with how non-cliché Charlie ends up being. He’s someone who loves his family unconditionally, but can’t quite embrace who they expect him to be. And how complex that sounds to such a balck-and-white kinda guy made me really excited to test his limits, to see how far he would go for them, and how peace and violence co-exist in him. Hence my choice.

Gender and pronouns of the character: Cis Male, he/him/his.

Changes: I would like to change Charlie’s faceclaim to Brandon Perea, if possible, as I talked to the admin before (more like, asked if that would work and stuff, but yeah). Thanks!

Traits:  Charles lives by a fundamental value: loyalty to a cause, to a person or to a principle as an unbreakable vow. He believes that respect, understanding of hierarchy and an accomplished role in society comes from this very trait, and does everything in his power to follow it, no matter how fond or not he’s of the subject of his loyalty. But being loyal also made him unforgiving, once unless you share his DNA, he’s incapable of forgetting and/or forgiving any gesture or action that goes against what he believes. Yes, he’ll be polite, smile and treat you as politely as you could expect, but he won’t care for you. Not for a second time, anyway. Because, in the end of the day, he’s nothing if not genuine. There’s no grand plan behind anything he does. Charles is capable of loving unconditionally, and will always part from the understanding that every single person has no second intentions, just what stands in plain sight. It’s not naivety, though, it’s just his black-and-white self speaking louder than his experience.

Unfortunately, because there’s no resemblance of a plan, Charles can be rather inconsequent.He does what he feels is right for him at that very moment, for h also strongly believes he’s not obliged to be the same person every hour of every day. As anything organic, Charles is in constant transformation and he loves it. He sees it as the very reason we exist for. To change, to be creative and to transform ourselves into better versions every day, through all of our ups and downs.

TW: murder, drug abuse, gun.

Charles Zerilli was a child of tradition.

He prayed in a milenar church, was born in a family of inherited trade, generation after generation, and served his purpose in life as the costume told him too. Dress well, behave well, and you might have some success in life. For greatness was hidden in the details, his mother used to say.

Curious how tradition was precisely what made him shiver once his gaze met his reflection in the mirror. Charles looked just like his father. The tailored suit, the leather belt, shoes and holster, the pair of Smith&Wesson Shields beneath his jacket.

                               An improved copy, father said with a smile.

They were off to work, then. Loudly, and yet, without pronouncing a word. Violently, and yet, looking as peaceful as the absence of life that followed them. This was the sight of the Zerilli family, the modus operandi they stood by. And Charles was thankful to the cocaine running through his system.

                                It got him going. Got him steady and fierce.

His father pretended not to notice or not to care, his mother looked the other way, and they all followed as planned. Down to the next stop: small business, just collecting money. For father wanted him to understand the small details of their operation. Always those freaking details.

But the poor guy had no money to give them.

Charles prayed for it not to happen. Exhaustively. No money meant guns, and guns meant death, and that meant more blood in his hands. Because a Zerilli must learn the value of life and of death, and there was nothing like killing to teach you that lesson. It was what tradition said. He knew it far too well.

“Charles”, father said, imperiously. ‘Kill him, now’, it meant. ’Graphically, violently. So no one will make the same mistake, so your name will be known in the streets and people will understand that you’re no child, no stupid heir’.

So he pulled out his gun, hands steady in his leather gloves as he pointed it at the miserable man’s forehead. But the racing heart inside his chest threatened to come out, to runaway towards shelter. He thought of Charlotte in the end of that barrel, and not all the cocaine in the world would make him less religious, less guilt and destroyed.

                                                                                                        F U C K.

His father looked at him, puzzled eyebrows arching as he did. There was no time left to pray for his soul, or for his victim`s salvation. Charles pulled the trigger. Small to no recoil and the man was dead. Bleeding out on the floor of his shop. Father smiled, still puzzled. “Why the delay, son?”, he asked, rather amused.

“Just… thinking of where to shoot”, Charles said, dismissively, and father laughed. “Well, you made the right choice”.

Right choice. Why, then, Charles felt like he couldn’t move further away from such a concept? He was tearing apart, and no fixing would put him back into one piece. There was no coming back from a murder. And that wasn’t even his first. He would burn in hell throughout all eternity and he had his own family to thank for that.

London, 2016.

TW: drug abuse.

Under the faint lights of the club’s bathroom, Charles resented his approaching sobriety.

A song by Years & Years played outside the disgusting door behind him, while men came inside with little to no dignity left. He was already able to discern what dignity actually meant. It wan’t pleasing. A bad sign, by all means.

For this was a night to forget. To be someone else entirely. So what use would sobriety have? Or self-respect, on that matter?

It didn’t take long, then, to his eyes depart from the mirror and look down as he went through his pockets. Once his fingers touched the small plastic bag, it all started to get better, brighter. One, two, three lines of coke and he was back in his game. Heart racing inside his chest, pupils dilated, a joy so great that it was barely handled.

He went back out, the song taking him further into the dancing crowd. Charles was barely standing, barely dressed. Just in the right spot.

                           “What are you prepared to do?”

His hands went up, Charlie laughed. That was the taste of freedom. Body unconsciously moving, names so far away from his mind he didn’t quite remember them. This was it. Perfection in its most wild form.

                          “I think I’m gonna make it worse"

And it seemed epidemic. Every corner he looked, there was more of it. People dancing, sweating against each other. Bodies moved, senseless. Drinks passed on, recklessly. He wasn’t sure about the name of the girl dancing with him, nor was he sure about where he got the beer he was holding, but Charles didn’t care. He laughed, again. He danced. He was  f r e e.

                          "I talk to you but it don’t work                                   I touch you but it starts to hurt                                       What have I been doing wrong?                                               Tell me what it is you want”

No expectations to meet, no problems to solve. Just that moment, that girl, that ridiculously high sex he would have and a morning of questionable integrity. Maybe there would only be a new future, if he destroyed his present first. Or maybe destruction was never the plan.

But Charles saw beauty in it. In that drunk frenesi he was stuck on.

London, 2017.

“Who the fuck are you?” was all Charles managed to say before he turned away from the mirror, sick of his own sight.

He couldn’t stand it. The loss in his eyes. For it was hard to find comfort in his own reflection lately. As long as he ignored, it was ok. He went on to his perfect world, and perfect amusement. Facade. But there were moments in life that ignorance was no longer acceptable, and he had to acknowledge he was unbecoming.

He turned off the water in the bathtub. Time to forget. No help from alcohol or drugs. Just allowing himself to process and move on. To get back his center, find peace. So he undressed himself and stepped into the warm water. Charles was prepared to pour himself out in that single moment, and leave the bathroom a new man.

At least, until the knock on his door made him aware of his own exposure. “Charlie”, he heard his sister call as the door fell open.

“I’m naked, get the fuck out”, Charles mumbled indifferently, eyes still closed as Charlotte arched a brow at him. “Because I never saw your fucking penis before…”. But she did. More than Charles was able to admit, and probably more often than adult siblings should see each other naked. But there was no point, she was already getting in the bathtub, kicking his legs away to make room and soaking her impeccable clothes and the bathroom floor.

“What the fuck, Charlie?” he sat down. “Felt like it”, she answered, and he cursed under his breath. He just wasn’t in the mood for that whole thing, and Charlotte knew. From the moment she opened the door and saw him, she knew and still came in anyway.

“I’m not buying this, Charlie. I know you, and I feel what you feel, which is creepy and highly inconvenient. So, stop. I’m not here for your fucking act. You can either pour your troubled little heart out to me, or enjoy the embarrassing silence, because I’m staying, and you better like it”.

And that was what having his soul outside his body meant.

It was sensing he was falling apart and coming anyway.                                      It was being told to leave, and deciding to stay. It was embarrassing, and at the same time, comforting.                                      It was  h o m e.

So Charles just went silent. He stared at her and laughed soundlessly. As long as he had Charlotte, things would work out. Unrequited love, family problems, drug addiction. It all felt small when he looked at her. She understood without him saying a word, she made it better just by being herself, and somehow, Charles knew that his twin was probably the best part of being him. His soul was all that mattered.

“I kinda hate you right now”, he said at last. Charotte snorted. Such an ugly lie.

When did you first start writing? Basically as soon as I could! All those horse stories………

What was your favorite book growing up? Ghost Horse – I don’t remember who it was by, I just remember that for years whenever someone asked my what my favorite book was, that was my answer.

Are you an avid reader? Yep! I don’t read as often as I used to (school libraries were handy like that), but I feast with no less vigor. ( •⌄• )

Have you ever thrown a book across the room? Lord no, don’t treat books like that.

Did you take writing courses in school/college? Like aside from the normal English classes? I took creative writing twice ‘cause we got a new teacher, ‘twas fun.

Have you read any writing-advice books? I looked at one my mom got once, but honestly I don’t really like writing-advice books? Like…I dunno, I just don’t.

Have you ever been part of a critique group? I mean there was a writing group in high school, but we really just hung out during lunch and were pals.  ┐( ᐛ )┌

What’s the best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten? All of them!

What’s the worst piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten? I mean really it was just my reaction that was the worst, but my tender 13-year-old heart was broken slightly by a review that said my writing was boring, and I ended up scrapping the entire story.

What’s your biggest writer pet-peeve? No paragraph breaks, no fresh line for speech, complete lack of punctuation.

Who is your favorite author? Quite a few, although I usually go by book rather than author ‘cause like…I loved Ender’s Game, but then Pathfinder was like ?? not to my taste, I was so surprised it was the same author.

What would you say has inspired you the most? Anything, really. I just get hit with the inspiration bus now and then.

How do you feel about movies based on books? Depends on the movie. :T For example…well, actually, most everything. orz For the most part I can enjoy the movie by itself, but it’s usually not much fun comparing it to the book. Arrival was based on a short story, though, and I think it was really well done!

Would you like your books to be turned into TV shows, movies, video games, or none? Well I mean, first I’d like my books turned into books. :’)) If I were ever published though, I’d definitely want a lot of say in the movie/show, and if it was a series of my books I think I’d like a TV show? Just so there could be more room for details.

How do you feel about love triangles? Get it away from me. ≖__≖No, alright, I admit that on the very, very, excruciatingly rare occasion, it can be done tolerably. But I can’t think of one published love triangle that hasn’t made me want to stab everyone involved in the triangle.

Do you prefer writing on a computer or longhand? Both! Sometimes it’s nice to just curl up somewhere with my notebook, but sometimes I just have to spew a few pages of text, in which case typing is faster and much more legible.

What’s your favorite writing program? Um. Word? Are there more that I’m missing out on? XD

Do you start with characters or plot? Generally characters, but I have a couple stories that are really just the story ideas and don’t have any characters yet.

What advice would you give to young writers? Just do it guys, go for it. Definitely use paragraphs and punctuation and all that, but it’s not like you’re required to know it all before you can start writing. And you know, I’m stupid and snobby, there are plenty of people who will read your walls of text and give you constructive feedback, and there are people who will beta read for you and love your stories like they deserve. Go forth!

Which do you enjoy reading the most: physical, ebook, or both? I mean…I don’t think I’ve ever read an ebook? And of course I love physical books, I’ve had them all my life.

Which is your favorite genre to write? Probably supernatural/fantasy stuff, I like being able to create things like new races and worlds and all that.

Which do you find hardest: the beginning, the middle, or the end? All of it, just, all of it.

What’s the weirdest story idea you’ve ever had? That crossover with Name of the Wind and One Piece. The one I just thought of like yesterday that I’m calling Lovers Anonymous and is bare scraps of an idea.

Which is your favorite original character, and why? My favorite of mine? As if I could choose one, they’re all my precious children (yeah, even Reagan, although his precious level is nonexistent).

What do you do when characters don’t follow the outline? Let ‘em run free. I had this whole character outline for Lark, and then she just threw it all away. But she’s wonderful the way she is, definitely better than I had planned!

Do you enjoy making your characters suffer? ლ(≖‿≖ლ) Oh yeah.

Have you ever killed a main character? Technically? In one of my stories I kill both. Well, everyone actually. In Hitverse I kill one of the main characters of RDM, and in Requiem I kill basically all of them, does that count?

What’s the weirdest character concept you’ve ever come up with? Define weird, I mean…I’m making an entire solar system of aliens, so take your pick.

If you could write the next book of any series, which one would it be, and what would you make the book about? Oh god that would be terrifying. I’d never be able to manage, and I’d really prefer to leave the story to the original author. If I could request a book from an author of any series, though, I’d definitely like another Auri book!

If you could write a collaboration with another author, who would it be and what would you write about? Too intimidating, I would die. :’))

If you could live in any fictional world, which would it be?I like that I’m familiar with this one…but it could be pretty interesting to live in one with circumstances like The Rook/Stiletto.
