#Golly!#this is a shorter update but I wanted it to be that way. We've been in the house for a while. It's time to change some scenery!!#Chara using their game narrator voice like “golly!” and “amazing!”#Eimmet high :)) i was really hoping to be able to reference Temmie Chang here. An integral part of UT/DR!! She's awesome!#WE ARE OFFICIALLY ON Day 2 BABY #yes- there is still a little everyman easter egg as well as some other things... ;)#I tried so many new and different things for these panels. I was a little nervous implementing them. But im having a lot of fun with it!#i try to put my own artistic enjoyment above all other things :) its what I strive for.#Angle's landing day! excited for the festivities!#Chara is feeling stabby :)#loved detailing Chara's hand in the last page. When I detail the hands- just know shits getting real #I'm really happy with how I was able to redraw Toriel here. She showed up in the second part and that was it for 2 years -w-#so even if she's not a major character- I wanted to give her some good screen time <3 #I did not make the Darkworld “Mayor” just for that one joke....but dang did it fit perfectly.#these 4 pages took longer than I wanted. I've seen a lot of posts in the wake of tsc calling out how the Foxes mistreated Kevin and never really gave him the same degree of compassion and patience that they gave Neil (and like, fair enough, there's definitely a disparity in how the two are treated by the broader team) but I think it's important to remember that it's very likely most of the Foxes didn't know just how bad things in the Nest were, especially when Kevin first came to Palmetto.

Like, they knew he'd been hurt badly, but were they ever told the full extent of the abuse in thr Nest? Probably not, because unlike Jean, Kevin was media trained. It was ingrained habit for him to conceal the true conditions inside the Nest to all outsiders, and that's not a habit he'd have been able to break easily. The only people who knew the full extent of what he'd been through were probably Wymack, Bee and Andrew.

Add to that Kevin's abrasive personality and his tendency towards nitpicking and perfectionism, and it's no wonder that the Foxes' patience with him ran thin after a while.

#i get where people are coming from with these posts bc kevin absolutely deserved the same level of support neil got #but we've gotta remember that the Foxes probably didnt have the full picture of what he'd endured #and that lack of context makes kevin's more irritating behaviors seem like inherent personality flaws #rather than the trauma responses that they actually are #also like #consider being the worst team in the league #then the best player in the league shows up one day and wont stop telling you how much you suck #and like #you KNOW you suck #so it just feels like hes piling on instead of being helpful #neil got a warmer reception by the foxes bc he didnt swoop in and heap a mountain of criticism on the team #sure he caused trouble later but he had a good stretch of just being the quiet new kid before he revealed himself to be a problem child #anyway this got rambly i just have a lot of thoughts about this

it is funny though how kids' shows are so so so careful about death, no one's ever killed except MAYYYYBE the big bad, all those random side characters are fine, here have a quick shot of them before we leave just so you know they really did survive that 50-foot drop into a stormy sea,

and meanwhile kids' books nearly all agree that it's not an adventure until it has a body count.

#to be clear I don't mean the heroes killing people #that's frankly a separate question #but bad guys come with collateral damage #even if they're nameless extras who are never described as more than a body in the street #and quite often the friends the hero meets along the way #will not all make it to the end #edit: actually I do also mean the heroes killing people #atla being so so so careful to show random mooks surviving and having the fire nation take prisoners all the time #vs animorphs going 'yeah we kill people. yeah we've got ptsd. what of it'#vs that one vivian vande velde book I read where the protagonist is really really stressed #about creeping up on a mook with a rock to bash him on the head #bc *what if she kills him?* she's just a teenager she doesn't know how brain trauma works she doesn't want to be a killer #to be clear animorphs and this book are on the same page

rewatched space babies just now and the 'they're inside the tv show' theory is making a whole lot of sense. hitting all the beats of what feels like quintessential dw, but kind of oddly fitted together. the 'last of the time lords' lore dump, sonic-ing the phone to call mum, the tardis translation/the nanny filter, 'every story needs a hero,' the doctor saving the monster/'you save them all,' giving the tardis key, 'tell your mum not to slap me,' scanning the companion without her knowledge... and the snow/memory scene is a literal flashback, just with the characters remembering what the tv showed us.

#i wonder if they're going to go with the kovarian route with susan twist's characters...#is she someone outside the tv they're getting glimpses of?#ohhh and we've got story and music (soundtrack) so far what if the next eps are themed around other elements of a show??#dw #dw spoilers
