There's something so compelling to me about how much the Vampires in sinners will just openly attempt to gaslight the protagonists. You don't see a dead body there- that guy's just sleeping.

Lying just comes so easily to them from the moment they 'awaken'. Stack acts like Smoke didn't just hold his dying body in his arms. Bo asks Grace to come out to the car as if there was ever a chance in hell she hadn't noticed that everyone who left that building came back a vampire.

There's no staying power in it either which is also interesting. They drop the lie immediately and then pick it up when the aggressive approach doesn't work. Cornbread would have been satisfied just getting a bite of Smoke, Bo makes all of these threats about going to get Lisa from town but no one actually gets into or starts up a car.

It loops back around to being so infuriating that the frustration itself seems to be the goal. These faces of people you know and love taunting you, playing in your face while your grief is struggling to take hold because they're dead but they're also right there- they're speaking to you, this isn't some stranger in your brother's body, that's still your brother.

Eddie: *sees Steve confused, beat up, bruised to hell, and single the literal next time he sees him*

Eddie: *puts the pieces together and draws a conclusion*

Conclusion: *is wrong*

Eddie, accosting Steve at lunch: Hey, did you know that if a guy is getting hit by somebody that it’s abuse? Even if it’s a girl doing it.

Steve, confused: Oh-kay?

Steve, deciding that Eddie is reaching out to him for a reason and draws the same wrong conclusion about Eddie: I mean, yeah. That’s - yeah? That’s true. And messed up. You should tell someone if that’s, uh…going on.
