Ok so a summary of the AX highlights I see talked about most:

Trigun Stargaze is gonna be what comes next in the Stampede franchise (I'm guessing it'll be like Maximum to the manga but who knows). No specific date, but I've seen late 2025 floating around and I can't confirm if that was mentioned at the panel or not

On Sampo's name (ALL of his names!)

I feel like everyone who's a fan knows the meaning of Sampo's full name by now- the sampo was a legendary item that could magically make endless supplies of gold, flour, and salt, all priceless items at the time! So it works perfectly for a scammer businessman like Sampo. ☆

"Koski" is the Finnish word for "water rapids" which might seem kinda random but actually makes sense for him, since Aha and the Masked Fools are also referred to with water terms:

This kind of analogy isn't specific to only Aha and the Masked Fools, but it does still tie them together. So water rapids fits perfectly! Sampo wants to stir the pot! He likes to shake things around and spice things up! He's taking that stagnant pool and turning it into water rapids! It would actually explain his ridiculous hair color, too; a dark blue wave tipped with white foam haha

EDIT: an amazing contribution from @ricochetlovebombs, who heard it from hoyolab user Rattaboy. If you interpret his first and last name together, instead of separately like I did, you would get something like "money river."

In other words, Sampo's name literally means CASH FLOW SKXJMDMDMD

What I really wanted to talk about is his drag alias name, though, Brughel Poisson, because to me that's where it gets really interesting.

So like in the English version, Sampo goes by Brughel Poisson when he's in disguise. Searching for just "Brughel" itself doesn't seem to get you much at first: a Flemish and Dutch Renaissance painter named Pieter Brueghel the Elder, who was famous for his landscapes and peasant scenery, especially Hunters in the Snow and The Blue Cloak.

He's referred to as "the Elder" because he had a son also named Pieter Brueghel (the Younger), and he began a long line of painters, all named Brueghel. Some of them did original work, and many of them created reproductions of the Elder's art to sell. The Elder was also famous as a printmaker. All of this is hilarious when you remember that Sampo is an infamous counterfeiter and has sold a relic called the Parallel Universe Printer JSKZJSMD

There is also something called Brueghel's Syndrome, named after one of Brueghel's paintings called De Gaper, which pictured a man yawning widely. It's a condition that causes the mouth to open and gape uncontrollably, twisting a person's countenance into a distorted mask of their usual face.

Tumblr doesn't have a way of censoring pics like twitter, so for the sake of the medically squeamish, I'm just showing De Gaper here. But if you look up Brueghel's Syndrome, you can find pictures of actual patients, some of whom really do make faces resembling Aha's comedy and tragedy masks!

In the Chinese and Japanese versions, his alias last name is a lot more silly- In those, "Sampo" is phonetically written as "san-bo" and "san-po." And in disguise, his last names are phonetically written as... "Bo-san" and "Po-san." The Chinese version uses different tones, but still. This smug asshole seriously just decided to write his own name backwards and called it a day NDMKXMDMD

In the English version, Poisson itself is kind of a reused Hoyo asset- it's also the name of Navia's fishing village in Genshin Impact. Which is a really silly name for a village, because it literally just means "fish" in French smzjxkdkdk but!

Again, more water imagery. And in English, if something is suspicious, we say that it's "fishy," which is perhaps the most fitting association yet for someone as shady as Sampo ☆

And for a good while I thought that was the only connection. But then. My beloved @hydrachea, who is an actual native French speaker, dropped this on me right after April Fool's Day:

In your Lucky Clover AU, would Starlo join the Royal Guard because; A, it would give some validity to his sheriff claim and; B, so that he could get word and try to deflect any investigations for the missing human that the Royal Guard launch.

This was such an interesting ask I really had to sit with it for a while. Huge ramble ahead!

So, this idea fascinated me solely because this is a little bit of what the situation is with Martlet in this AU. After Clover decided to live in the underground post Pacifist ending, she put in her two weeks and quit, since she does NOT want to risk being ordered to kill or hunt down Clover, or any other humans for that matter.

It's something she struggles with a lot; not only because she's jobless for a while and probably has to ask for financial assistance from Dalv/Ceroba/Starlo, but also because she KNOWS being in the Royal Guard would give the gang some insider intel on the missing human investigations. Maybe it would've been better to tough it out in a job she wasn't content with just to get that info, to protect Clover? While her friends reassure her that this was the best decision, for her and for Clover's safety, it's something Martlet struggles with for a while, especially considering how some Snowdin Monsters side eye for her suddenly leaving her post and job.

Now, for Starlo. If the situation called for it, would Starlo try and join the Royal Guard? Perhaps if there was no other option! He's the kind of person to go above and beyond for the people he cares about, sometimes to reckless degree. However, I think his relationship with the Royal Guard is far too sour for him to ever be considered for a job with them, based on this line from Ceroba.

Dude literally has made a habit out of locking Royal Guards in his town's jail. Undyne is NOT accepting him into her ranks LOL. (I honestly HC that although Undyne and Starlo have a lot in common and some similarities, they probably would hate each other if they met or were forced to engage in conversation with one another LOL).

As it stands in the AU, none of our main cast has any connections to the Royal Guard, as much as they would like having some kind of way of getting side info, in order to protect Clover. Martlet is in a weird spot with her old co workers, and Starlo's pre-Pacifist ending habits and way of running his town had pretty much killed any chance of that. The best they can do is just keep their eyes and ears peeled in order to ensure no Royal Guard ever discovers Clover secretly living in the Underground.

The impeccable drama of a Judgment of Paris interpretation that chooses to have Aphrodite disguised in the appearance of Helen and say "Grant me your apple cast from gold ... Take me as your reward" is so SO incredibly good what a galaxy-brained idea

AND THEN all of the tension and conflict created between Paris and Helen through him constantly referring to her as "Sweet Aphrodite" and "goddess"... Like it starts off very endearing for Helen in Perfect Stranger ("He called out a name meant for me") but quickly turns sour in Paris In Court and Any Fool Could See - Paris has precisely 0 brain cells and is quite possibly the densest lead role I've ever come across. His naivete and optimism is actually quite scary (especially at the beginning of Any Fool Could See) and the constant kneeling and devotion towards Helen is just *chefs kiss*

Helen becomes less of a person and more of a symbol of love (to Paris) and war (to everyone else). The line delivery of "I become the object / Of such bitterness / And fear" in Hell Or High Water tugs at my heartstrings. Sheila Parker's performance throughout the musical absolutely elevates Helen's character, her vocals are AMAZING honestly.

There's layers to it I'm not going to be able to put into words or do justice right now but that's okay. TL;DR: "One goddess / One human counterpart". It's such a fun twist on that myth!!

"As his song fades into the air, his sky returns to it's clear state, wind and radiant sunbeams ruffling his feathers. Afterwards, the fog emerged, gathering and weaving magic only he could sense and feel. Although he had the power disperse the fog with a mere flick of a talon, it meant little to him either way. Quite some time later, the tiny mortals began to gather the old stray feathers Isol would shed and pluck at certain times. What odd behaviour indeed..."

This is Solum Isol, a dragon born to a long ancient breed called the Primordials that were once revered as gods. Known to civilisations as the dream weaver the sky dragons worshipped him as their guardian and protector, securing his territory with a fog that deterred any trespassers and keeping their dreams free of nightmares. He was also known for his love for needlework and music, weaving intricate dreams together like fabric whilst playing the most beautiful melodies, dressmakers, bards and mages all claim him as their patron deity.

Although it was not known that unlike his kin, Isol had cared little for the mortals who worshipped him, too shy to interact with anyone he preferred to keep to himself and his music, at least until one day he finds a little bard at his favourite haunt practicing a song. Intrigued, he corners the bard, wondering why they were there "what an interesting tune. Do tell me little mortal, what brings you to such a place? Do you not fear the storm?"

For Isol only ventured out on the days when storms were on the horizon. Years later he would come to befriend this little bard named "Opèra" visiting every time a storm would begin near their spot, sharing songs, stories and dances for hours until the first drops landed, until one day Opèra never showed up, or the next, or the next after that. Concerned for his only friend Isol would venture out to the mortal's village for the first time, flinching and shying from the revering gazes and cries of awe until he was stopped by the village elder claiming that Isol must have been so pleased with their offering that he deigned to grace them with his presence, later Isol would discover that the village had found out about his and Opèra's outings they thought his little bard would make the perfect sacrifice to him as they have done for many years to ensure his "protection"

Isol would soon become so enraged that the winds howled and rains flashed as he morned his friend. Flooding the lands into an isle, mountains were wretched from the ground to forever hover in the skies, a testament to the wayward magicks frothing in the air. In his grief Isol was driven to madness, he wished that he had never met his little bard, that these pathetic mortals never knew of his existence, that they never existed. So as punishment he turns the fog that once protected the dragons against them, connecting it to a world where dreams touched the waking and releasing monstrous creatures that preyed on those who slept.

Only decades later, would a mysterious knight come to reclaim the ravished lands from the maddened Isol, finally putting him to rest as their sword tears through his weary chest. Saving the land from his grief.
