One-Mindfully

This is another one of the "How Skills". These are the skills you use to practice your other skills.

The simple way to sum this up is it is about doing one thing at a time. If you are going to do something, focus solely on that thing. I remind myself of this when I am catching up with my partner after we've been a part all day. I get fidgety and want to check my phone but push myself to be mindful and stay in the moment and enjoy the time I have with him. I think about how it feels to be in the moment with him. I remember how much he loves me, and how excited he is to share his day with me. It makes me feel warm inside, and I just allow myself to feel those feelings and interact with him.

Another example for me is sometimes I feel anxious, and I want comfort. I'll go over to my dog and snuggle up to her and pet her. I will only pet her. I will focus on the feeling of her fur. I feel hear the sound of her breathing. I will watch the way her eyes close when I pet her and see how she's enjoying it. And I will just enjoy that I have her and that she's a part of my life.

The goal of this skill is to focus on the here and now without getting distracted. This will hopefully help you be in the moment and feel less fragmented. It will also allow you to do things to the best of your ability. When I am using my other DBT skills, I focus on them.

It is a really hard skill to learn, and honestly, maybe not for everyone. I don't always use it. Sometimes it's better for me to not. That's a personal decision and up to you! But if you want to practice the skill, take a note of things you do where you are doing more than one thing at a time and make a conscious effort to do one thing. If you mess up, don't beat yourself up! That's okay. Let go of the distraction and try again.

Bruce just- Blue Screens. Completely stunned into silence

Dick -who was unfortunate enough to be the one teamed up with Batman tonight- is fighting for his life to choke back his laughter

Jason doesn’t even try to stop his and has collapsed to his knees from lack of air from how hard he’s laughing. Cass try’s half heartedly patting his back to help to no avail

The criminals are terrified into surrender from The Red Hood just laughing hysterically at seemingly nothing while Batman just Stands There

Damian ends up being the only one still functioning enough to continue arresting everyone, though he is privately amused and strangely proud

Tim and Barbara have saved both the com recordings and cowl footage to at least three different servers and sent it to absolutely everyone before Batman even recovers

Duke finds out second hand the next morning and is furious he missed the chance to see it in person. He declares he is moving to the nightshift so it doesn’t happen again. (He is all talk and goes to bed by 9 pm)

Bruce bans the phrase for life and promises swift and server punishment to anyone who dares to use it again

I think the thing I really love about Desert Duo is the warmth between them.

The way they banter and poke and prod at each other but always with an undercurrent of fondness. Scar teases about Grian's secret soulmate, Grian huffs that his heart is for someone special, Scar whispers with Pearl about ideas to mess with their soulmates, Grian mutters about leaving the desert all season. They both stay. They both giggle together and quickly drop any faux hurt.

The way they play each other. Scar coaxes Grian into doing work for him, Grian snatches a life away from Scar, Scar practically robs Grian blind through 'fair trade', Scar stabs Grian in the back in Thirdlife, Grian stabs Scar in the back in Limited Life. It's all in good fun. They sigh and roll their eyes and smile.

The way they gravitate towards each other. Easily partnering in Thirdlife, dancing around an alliance in both Last Life and Limited Life, being paired by the universe in Double Life, trying to reach for each other only to be torn apart by the universe in Secret Life. They meld easily together, like whispered plans and a presence beside each other is the most natural thing in the world.

The way they understand each other. "You and me, we know monopolies" Scar says, and Grian smiles. "Why DON'T you come along with me?" Grian giggles, and Scar can breathe for the first time all session.

Obsessed with Jay fully knowing he has lightning powers, but tucking that shit so far back down it's right next to where he keeps all his insecurities. By which I mean I know damn well he is SO bad at hiding his element. The toaster in the break room is on the fritz and he goes over to fix it and winds up sparking it back to life on accident. Someone bursts into his office when he's playing video games and he startles so bad he sends an electrical shock through the controller and blows a fuse. He's out on a mission in the middle of a storm and whenever anyone touches him they keep getting zapped with weirdly powerful static.

He insists no one knows. The truth is that most people don't know because the Administration would have to do too much paperwork if Jay actually had powers so they live in blissful ignorance. The few that do know keep their mouths shut and decide it's just a quirk of their weird manager. Jay's humming the mission impossible theme under his breath every other day, which is probably why he never even bothered to get to the "huh, I wonder why I have these weird powers" stage. And he will continue to not think about it until he dies. Or Nya finally finds him and has a meltdown over her greatest fear coming true. One of the two
