i feel that so many people seem to take the basis of naruto and sasukes characterization and switch them…. i see too many people infer naruto is made of happiness and love while sasuke of hate and anger but i have always seen naruto as a character that is full of hatred and anger and he has to let go of that with the love of others. sasuke as a character is so full of love yet he has to follow that through with grief and anger and learn to bear others hatred.

naruto never really had the heaviness of love in his heart until he went through the process of controlling kuramas chakra and had to confront the hatred inside him. frankly it says it blatantly that he had always held hatred in his heart for the situation he was forced into and the way the village treated him because of it, until he was able to accept and move past that hatred and have love for kurama and his dad and the people of his village. so i genuinely don’t understand where this notion that naruto is just pure sunshine and happiness came from. sasukes whole story starts out with wanting revenge on his brother because he loves his family and his clan so much. it’s a constant clear notion that he hurts so bad from his brother’s betrayal because he loved his brother, and that his rage against konoha is because he loved his clan that konoha sanctioned a genocide of. it’s constantly stated that the uchiha hold intense love in their hearts.

it’s sasukes connection with the people around him that formed his love where it’s the lack of that connection that formed narutos hate…. the way they expressed their emotions is very different because they’re both in insanely different scenarios no matter how much they understand the others pain. narutos hatred makes him want to finally receive the love that the village never gave him, but sasukes love makes him want the village to experience the pain that they inflicted upon him and his clan… maybe sasuke expresses his love more negatively and maybe naruto expresses his hate more positively, but that doesn’t change the fact that sasukes actions came from a place of love and narutos actions came from hate. they just needed each other to balance the other out….

this image lives in my mind rent free. there's so much here and i really wish the manga had gotten deeper into these two's deeply fucked up relationship bc it's fascinating.

according to wikipedia, yin (the black bit) represents the female/passive/negative principle in nature, while yang (the white part) represents the male/active/positive principle in nature. yin is covert, of the netherworld, the north side of a hill, the south bank of a river, the moon. yang is overt, belonging to this world, the south side of a hill, the north bank of a river, the sun. some other stuff too

the name hyuuga is written with the characters for "sun" and "approach", but the second character can also mean "defy". hinata's first name is just a different reading of the kanji of their surname (which is hilarious but that's not the point), but as a noun "hinata" means "sunny place" or "in the sun". i believe it's also been used to mean "the direction the sun is shining". with the reading "hyuuga", though, the same kanji is also an archaic noun meaning "facing (opposite) the sun". so hinata, the all-but-disowned heiress of the clan, is "a sunny place facing the sun" - both an undeniable part of her family, yet ostracized for her weakness.

neji's name means "screw", or it can refer to a key or a spring in like a watch or a clock or something. there's a few kanji it could be written in, but only one of them caught my eye - 螺旋 is a rarer way of writing "ねじ" (usually just written in hiragana afaik, tho neji the character's name is written in katakana) but the more common reading of 螺旋 is ら(螺)·せん - rasen. if you haven't already caught it, the kanji for rasengan is 螺旋丸­. that's not super relevant, just interesting. anyway, neji who "defies" the main family is one who "faces (opposes) the sun". but at the same time he's its strongest member (or. the one with the most potential. probably most of the jounin hyuuga were stronger than genin neji). so he's "a screw in the sun" - a fundamental piece of the machinery that it may not be able to function without, even if it can't be seen from the outside, like the inner workings of a clock.

idk where i'm going with this i just think these two are fascinating and i would've liked to seen more of them concerning one another

I prefer the main plot being about not romantic love, even if there's romantic love involved.

It could that for me romantic feelings are can come or go. Love itself, with all it represents, can outlast romantic love, friendship love, family love and all the variations. It's crazy, I know, I don't know how to explain my own definition of love.

But it's— It's not that family is more important than friends or lovers. I think them as just clothes on a body, things you can overlap, but there's a basic form of it (I don't know the name) that lies behind all those layers.

I'm borrowing the term soulmate, stripping it of it's actual definition. A soulmate for me is the person that you feel that shapeless love for, someone who you're so connected with, that your souls shape themselves around each other. The perfect match not because it came like that, but because they encountered each other beyond time and space, molded themselves together, and went back to linear time, local space.

That's Naruto and Sasuke for me.

They could wear any of all the layers of love, and even if they didn't, their connection just wouldn't break. They don't have to be "lovers" or "brothers" or "friends" or add any tag to what they are.

the funniest thing to me is that the opposite colour palette is still like- a bit small when you pick other narusasu metaphors/complementary features. first of all is that they have two opposite colour palletes, and that’s only in their outfits. when naruto is orange, sasuke is blue, but when sasuke turns purple, naruto gets yellow. there is also the fact that one is blue eyed and blond and the other is dark eyed and is a brunet, yeah that’s complementary as well. but they are also light and dark, sun and moon, yin and yang, fire and wind, heaven and earth, one is brasher and the other is more graceful, one is usually more explosive and the other one is usually more collected. you think that’s it right? nah. the way they develop in the story is also complementary, their backstories are complementary, how they deal with their feelings, how they express love is complementary too. one had no one ever since the beginning, the other had his family until they were taken away from him. one was treated as an outcast, the other was respected by everybody. one desperately tried to connect with people because he craves relationships badly, the other thinks bonds make you weak, one grows “positively” through the support he receives during the story, the other comes up with a self destructive plan that relies on his own isolation. and i’m pretty sure there are still a lot of things to list here. kishimoto just wasn’t playing when he said “sasuke is always in the corner of my mind. naruto and sasuke progress as a pair, so when i write about naruto, i have to think about sasuke. they are on opposite sides of the spectrum, like yin and yang” and i think that’s very beautiful.

Capricorn moons are very uncomfortable expressing emotions and can get kinda weird when others express strong emotions to them. A lot of cap moons felt they needed to detach from their emotions to survive when young so it can be harder for them to get in tune with their emotional nature. Mercury in Pisces usually struggled with logical thinking and speaking when growing up. They usually understand things without having to think about them it’s like they get a hunch and just know without explanation but they usually have a hard time expressing what they know in logical terms so that others can understand. Because of this inability many people might’ve thought they weren’t smart or are never paying attention.

Sun in the 1st house people are so magnetic. Even if they barely speak they usually have a a bunch of people trying to date them or be their friend. If any of you ever watched Naruto I feel like Sasuke definitely had this placement. He really didn’t care to be around anyone or socialize but people were so obsessed with him. They just have the IT factor whether they realize it or not.

Moon in Leo’s really enjoy being babied by people especially by their partners! They really crave emotional attention low-key.

I was thinking of Naruto and Obito being suns but Obito is a dead star and how his story reflects a star's life and how Kamui is like a black hole so I made this :>

Obito is my second favourite character and it pains me how mischaracterized he is, his story and mentality is so interesting like how he chooses to live under the lie that the world is fake to cope with the pain but how he still doesn't want to kill Kakashi. I love him so much.

just realized how much Kishimoto actually weaved the concept of Yin and Yang into the plot. so we know Sasuke is Moon/Yin and Naruto is Sun/Yang, right?

so, Yin/Yang symbolizes the difference in Sasuke and Naruto's solution to the war/hate problem; Sasuke wants to destroy and rebuild things from the ground up, while Naruto wants to work with the current system, both with the goal for a better future

neither solution is fully wrong nor right, and the true answer is that they're meant to come together to form a whole. this is why having Sasuke and Naruto ultimately come to a compromise is so important

but, this is where Kishimoto fumbles his symbolism. because at the end, there is no compromise. he ends up framing Naruto's solution as the correct one, by making Sasuke "lose" (although, there does seem to be some nuance, because Kishimoto doesn't quite allow Sasuke to fully surrender, keeping him traveling and away from Konoha's bureaucracy and familial expectations)

I genuinely think any ship within the og Team 7 students would make sense. There're 0 reasons to fight about it, they're all just as justified.

Naruto was obsessed for yeeeeeaaaars with his teammates. He looked at them like they hung the moon and the stars in the sky for him. Sasuke and Sakura were the only boy and girl on Earth, lol.

Sasuke and Sakura were used to being cruel to put some distance between them and the world. Defense mechanism or not, Naruto was maybe the only person in the entire world that would never eat that up. He knew feeling lonely, he knew being hurt, he knew to feel useless... Fuck that, for him, there would never be as someone as awesome as his teammates.

His most important promise in life was to save Sasuke, for both his, Sakura's and his own sake.

In return, Sasuke and Sakura would never shut up about him either. His their saviour, their hero, their sun and the boy fills their lives with joy.

That's why any ship with him works!

For Sakura, it's that there was textual romantic tension with both of them for the entire series. Their chemistry and backstory were intentionally written. That Kishimoto decided on the canon ships in the end, okay, but any of them could have worked. If you can't feel the love between them, blame the writing and not the characters, 'cause it was clear that Kishimoto wanted people to think of them as a love triangle for some time.

Since the genin days, she was their it girl. No one touches Sakura, no one hurts Sakura, blah blah blah. In exchange, even when she wasn't strong enough, she'd use herself as a shield for them. It makes no sense, but she'd jump between any attack and them at any moment. She would run to them when they have lost their mind, not even scared of them as much as she was scared for them.

She defended both of them when other people criticized them. She also lost faith and tried to manipulate them or kill them at some point out of pure desperation of keeping one of them alive. She was the one left behind time and time again, they are her whole reason to be who she is and to be a medic nin. All she ever wanted was to walk alongside them, not behind them.

Again, it works.

With Sasuke is so easy.

Naruto and Sakura were obsessed with him to the point of following him to the literal almost end of the world. The definition of hatred being actually love, because they'd be at each other's throats about it. Their goal in life? Sasuke. The person they cried about at night? Sasuke. What would they wish upon a star? For Sasuke to come back.

And Sasuke couldn't stop thinking about them. In his mind, they were always there. They'd follow him, almost haunt him. They were annoying and rude and ignorant, they were stupid, weak even, he loved them so much that he convinced himself he needed to kill them, cut their bonds.

They harbor endless love for him and with time, he came to understand that's just how they were and accept it.

The loyal 12 years old that would rather take the attacks himself than let his teammates be in any type of danger, did a full cycle and came to be the devoted man that vowed to atone for his mistakes and return to them one day.

If they gave themselves freely to him and almost without a reason, Sasuke gave himself back with all the reasons in the world.

Do I even have to explain why narusasusaku works too or—????

I could never fight over what's the better ship when I know they are all insane about each other.
