REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 17/08/2024 (Chase & Status/Stormzy)
It’s a new #1 the second week in a row, as Chase & Status of all acts launch their hit “BACKBONE” with Stormzy to the top of the UK Singles Chart, it being the first for the drum and bass duo and the fourth for the MC. Perhaps unexpected but an ultimately exciting shake-up, it does not reflect the rest of this dull week. Welcome back to REVIEWING THE CHARTS!
content warning: celebrities complaining
Rundown
As always in this series, we start with our notable dropouts, those being songs that exit the UK Top 75 - which is what I cover - after five weeks in the region or a peak in the top 40. This week, we bid adieu to “you look like you love me” by Ella Langley featuring Riley Green and “Pour Me a Drink” by Post Malone featuring Blake Shelton which may rebound given the album’s release, as well as some bigger hits like “LUNCH” by Billie Eilish and “i like the way you kiss me” by Artemas which lasted longer than it ever should have.
As for our returns, other than Noah Kahan’s “You’re Gonna Go Far” re-entering at #74 after peaking at #63 earlier this year - it often just bubbles under like this - we have a big resurgence at #27, as Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” gets a boost from being featured in the Deadpool & Wolverine soundtrack. It was the pop icon’s sixth #1 and stayed at the top for three weeks back in 1989, thanks to firstly being a fantastic song as well as having a controversial, larger than life music video that angered the Vatican… like all great artists have at least once. Whilst a classic, it’s not exactly my ultimate favourite of Madonna’s hit but with a catalogue like hers, that’s inevitable, and naturally, the track has seen success in several cover versions. Trbute act Who’s That Girl! released a version alongside “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” that reached #88 in 1997 and Miley Cyrus reached #79 with it in 2022, though between those were the biggest versions in the UK, the first being from Eurodance outfit MadHouse who took their “Like a Prayer” all the way to #3 in 2002, when Darius’ “Colourblind” occupied the #1. In 2010, the cast to the musical sitcom Glee created a Madonna tribute episode that obvioussly had to contain “Like a Prayer”. It reached #16 in 2010 on its debut week, the same week that Roll Deep debuted at #1 with “Good Times”.
And now that history lesson’s over, we also have a few notable gains, those being “Double Life” by Pharrell Williams at #56, “Carry You Home” by Alex Warren at #51, “Black Friday (pretty like the sun)” by Lost Frequencies and Tom Odell at #50, “Sailor Song” by Gigi Perez at #43, “I Love You, I’m Sorry” by Gracie Abrams at #38, “Big Dawgs” by Hanumankind and Kalmi at #21, “Somedays” by Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D at #19, “Move” by Adam Port, Stryv and Malachiii at #11 and finally, “Angel of My Dreams” by JADE at #10 thanks to a new version. I honestly can’t complain about much of that batch.
As for our top five, well, “BACKBONE” is at #1, we know that, but otherwise we see “Stargazing” by Myles Smith at #5, “Guess” by Charli xcx featuring Billie Eilish slip off the top to #4, “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan at #3 and just pipped at the post once again is, also Billie Eilish, with “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” at #2. Now we have a small batch of new songs, but it seems we’ll actually be starting where we started and will be ending. If that wasn’t too convoluted.
New Entries
#72 - “Gunfinger (Salute)” - IRAH featuring Chase & Status
Produced by Chase & Status
So Chase & Status have naturally gotten an algorithmic push they didn’t really get before the massive success of “BACKBONE”, which has not only boosted their back catalogue but also this bubbling track they just produced with a feature credit for IRAH, an MC who hass worked with the two before, most notably on last year’s #5 hit “Baddadan”. I generally like the jump-up intensity of Chase & Status production, and “Gunfinger” feels pretty traditional with IRAH’s deep-voiced intimidation and the reggae sample starting off the song, later warping into a rolicking drum and bass clatter decorated with a sparse, windy atmosphere, stray vocal samples and an array of alarming synths. Whilst I appreciate the details in the drum fills and sound design here, there is a certain emptiness to this that really is evident from IRAH’s general incapability to make much of an impression, sticking to a pretty basic, unmoving delivery that could really do with being more energetic when the production is going to try and rally for minimal intensity over anything. It’s fine, I just wish there was something more to it.
#59 - “Why Why Why” - Shawn Mendes
Produced by Mike Sabath, Shawn Mendes, Eddie Benjamin and Scott Harris
The in-demand Mike Sabath seems to be the go-to for pop singer-songwriters who wish to go for a more serious and ambitious direction, since it worked so well with RAYE, and I can’t blame Shawn Mendes wanting that same level of control and detail given how much of his earlier output was nearly insufferably manufactured. A song like “Stitches” plays out much more like a Disney star’s song than the maturer side Mendes has been wanting to show since at least “In My Blood”, and whilst he has been hit-and-miss in that like he has his entire career, he at least has the dignity to not flail out into failed hyperpop experiments like the ex-partner who I have no doubts he’s still writing about because I know she is too. In this new comeback single, Mendes is constantly thinking of his ex-partner, waking up in a sweat having visions of her naked, and just asking… “why”.
So the song has a general focus on a hopeless state of mental health, but plants ideas without ever expanding on them: the anxiety he feels on tour, the over-dramatic relationship drama and feeling writer’s block all coalesce into that one hook of “I don’t know why”, over a more organic, reverb-drenched folk instrumental that feels very blatantly a trend-chase, even if it does make sense for the acoustic-focused Shawn Mendes to hop on the sound. The bridge makes the childlike confusion Mr. Mendes even more transparent: as soon as he thinks he can be a father, he getss the grounding realisation that he is still a child inside and sometimes even pleads with his mother for help, though does not seem to really do anything to help or prevent any of this? In fact, the only problem resolved is that he “chose himself” instead of his ex-partner, which may be telling that the only recurring problem in his life he can entirely dismiss is those close to him, as everything else described in the track is either cyclical or unresolved entirely, hence his clueless wandering through those underwritten choruses and wow, this is insufferable. For once, I think he knows, and that restless whining about problems is undoubtedly intended to be further frustrated by his refusal to, or maybe even no awareness to how he can, fix those issues. It’s just also not something I really care to hear from, well, anyone. It doesn’t display any temptation to fix his problems, the lyrics aren’t poetic in expressing such, and half of them are informed by his accessibility to experiences I simply cannot access. A self-obessed wobble or spiralling down through the woes that come with “more money, more problems” would be interesting if there was actually any clear progression or detail, but Mendes and co. seem much happier in just leaving the song as is: an unneeded yet unspecific venting session from a wildly successful musician wherein you’re left in the dust to core elements that could actually resonate, and justify the frankly dumb writing. This new lead single ultimately just shows a disconnect that isn’t particularly worth caring about, and I’m not even sure Shawn wants us to, given this sonically has “fulfilling my contract album” kind of written all over it. I’m sure this will be nice for the diehard fans, but to me, this is just useless.
#58 - “Active” - Asake and Travis Scott
Produced by Sarz and MIKE DEAN
Nigerian singer Asake, best known on the UK charts for “Lonely at the Top” and its recent single “Wave” with Central Cee, has released his newest record, Lungu Boy, which has landed on the UK albums chart at #15. I have yet to listen to that full album yet but Asake has impressed me before with their bright, melodious take on Afrobeats, and this new track is actually very interesting, using a sample of fellow NIgerian Jazzman Olofin’s “Raise da Roof” and cutting the vocal off into a stuttered riff against the almost 90s house groove that quickly tumbles into a tighter, minimal bass that feels so full in the mix, to the point where the cowbells and vocal loop end up kind of extraneous to just how good that bassline is. Asake’s melody seems somewhat out of place in his verse given how percussive the production is, but it plays off really interestingly off the busier drums in its second half, and that chorus is so simple yet worms its way into my head, especially when surrounded by the pitch-shifted vocal loop that is just as sticky. If I have a problem, it’s Travis Scott, who once again confuses laziness for being interesting, cutting off elements of his vocal take for no functioning reason other than sounding awkward and “different” for a few bars before quickly dipping into typical flows he has always used to flex vapidly and take me out of just how fun the song should be, though he quickly disappears after. Frankly, both artists do end up disappointing in the core part of the song, even if I have no expectations for Travis other than substanceless garbage nowadays (“fetish for the money”? Seriously?), as both fail to truly make the best use of the instrumental possible, I think becaue Travis is useless and Asake just needs more space to go for the melodic approach, and is given so in the outro, where that rushed vocal loop is placed against smooth, spacey keys that Asake can croon and riff off of. I wouldn’t be surprised if that beautiful section is what MIKE DEAN contributed to the beat, but even with that, it feels like it was tacked on to grant the song more depth than it needs, and I end up pretty much torn damn near 50-50 on it despite a great instrumental. Maybe this would just be better-served by other artists, and not even because of talent dsparity, just because the limitations of the production would fit more frenetic artists than two Auto-Tune crooners. Overall, I do think I’m teetering positively on it, but I wanted to enjoy it way more given what Sarz and DEAN cooked up.
#1 - “BACKBONE” - Chase & Status and Stormzy
Produced by Chase & Status
Now this is how to go for pure intensity: there’s a screeching lead synth, a heavily elevated build that relies not on the instrumental to gather its swell, as Stormzy is much more of a unique presence than IRAH, mostly due to his switches in flow and cadence that convince you on his smug flexes and macho posturing which is honestly mostly just dedicated to defying “you” - not the listener, but an imagined sense of authority to rebel against and insult. That kind of relentless energy in the content may not translate perfectly when he’s still flexing materialistically, but it’s easier than ever to ignore the less populist elements of Stormzy’s bars when the intensity is just this high. The spiralling synth in the build wires down into a canvas of thumping bass tones in the drop, with the drums jumping off of pitch-shifted vocal fragments and stretched backing strings propelling from the back of the mix. The song refuses to commit to a copy-paste structure, with Chase & Status adding great, small details like the break fill before the second verse, the brief but absolutely cavernous, industrial-sounding drums behind Stormzy prior to the final drop, and those horns bursting with not just bombast but a real sinister tone by the end that helps bring back some of the immersion. This is honestly a really simple song structurally, especially lyrically, but the execution is so powerful it trumps the need for anything all too complex, and that probably would have ruined its chances at #1 anyway. It’s exactly the kind of straightforward banger you’d expect the trio to make and whilst like “Guess”, the other likeably obnoxious, arguably garish EDM collaboration to debut unexpectedly at #1, I don’t see ths lasting too long at the very top, I’m sure it can find its space below, and whatever run it has doesn’t take away from that initial spark that gave the production duo a long-overdue reign on the singles chart they’ve called home for over a decade now.
Conclusion
This should be the easiest episode ever for you to figure out who gets what. Shawn Mendes takes the Worst of the Week for “Why Why Why”, “BACKBONE” by Chase & Status and Stormzy gets the Best of the Week, we’ll probably see the new Bruno and Gaga collab shake things up next week alongside Hozier and Post, but we’ll see. For now, thank you for reading, long live Cola Boyy and I’ll see you next week!

100 Albums
Original Post
Happy Halloweek! With the holiday weekend I have been caught up with the festivities but I made some time to listen to albums nonetheless. I was Moo Deng but it was kind of a flop, but my backup costume is Trinity from the Matrix for this weekend. Well, last week here are the albums from my list that I listened to and what I thought about them:
8. Daft Punk - Random Access Memories (2013)
Blast from my past! Strong blend of early groove, Euro disco tech, and pop-rock vibes. Like it's really soft than their earlier albums but influential nonetheless. It took me a couple of listens before I truly appreciated the album. I think it starts slow and I lost focus a lot which means my attention wasn't so strongly captured. Nostalgia about European disco in the 1970s and 80s was apparent but maybe it feels like it's stuck in time a little bit? One thing to note, this is a rarity in modern electronica with its use of live instruments and barely any samples. It is an homage to old "real" music and a fab sendoff for these music pioneers.
Favorite Tracks: Giorgio By Morodor, Instant Crush (ft. Julian Casablancas), Lose Yourself To Dance (ft. Pharrell Williams)
94. Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun (1999)
I just...could not with this album. My biggest takeaway is that the Icelandic definition of music is so different and involves a depth and vibration to it that is so trippy. Horns, vocals, keyboards, percussions and more - it was very complex. I was listening to this on the highway and it started to stress me out while I was driving! Ambient and mildly creepy music while I'm speeding? So, sorry, I could not enjoy you Sigur Rós. I know you guys are better off without me.
Favorite Tracks: Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása
30. Elton John - Honky Château (1972)
Young rascal EJ - you must’ve been so fun and depressed at the same time. We love that. The album goes between high energy + cheeky and sad + yearn. I was also surprised by how strong the American influence was on this little English man. His piano playing and tongue in cheek lyrics are playful and catchy. The guitar and mandolin were energetic and a nice touch. I’ve always had an influence on my music taste from the 70’s and 80’s because of my parents but I actually never listened to this album as a kid. The vibe of my parent’s music was more disco, reggae, and pop and not so much rock. Now this album isn’t heavy rock ‘n’ roll, it’s glam rock so it just slightly short of the usual CDs playing in my home in my memories. Though I’m glad I’ve been introduced to this album because I love the feeling of old school youth and passion throughout the whole project.
Favorite Tracks: Honky Cat, I Think I’m Going To Kill Myself, Amy

Hemale Education director Frøydis Fossli Moe had an interview with Fotopodden in 2020. In the interview she is talking about the motivation behind making the short film Hemale Education.
Translation by @teejaysnow:
“No, but I like, I like in a way to play with people’s emotions. Like, right now I’m making a film called Hemale Education with Tarjei Sandvik Moe and Sjur Vatne as the main characters. And it began with me reading the newspaper - I need a newspaper intervention, really, I get so provoked. No, but I was sitting reading the newspaper and it feels like the world is going to hell, and not only that, but women’s rights are also going to hell. Countries that used to have good legislation for women have then gone back so we’ve taken one step forward and three steps back. Like, the abortion laws in many states in the USA, right? And there’s… there’s the same thing in all of Latin America and in really religious communities and all that. And it’s just like this, there is nothing that makes me angrier than this, so then I called a friend and said “let’s write a script together, I’m really frustrated”. And I don’t know why, I just got… it’s very weird to explain because it’s an extremely absurd universe I’ve created here. So what I really did was, the first thing I did to get the anger out was to write a list of things that frustrated me. How can I tell this to my audience, how can they understand where my anger is coming from. So I made, like, bullet points, three bullet points that I wanted to develop. And then I took it to the next level, so it’s basically what women go through on a day to day basis with structural oppression, and then I do it to men, just a notch more extreme. So men in this universe, they are… really, they go through so much, you feel sorry for them. And they’re sexualised too, they walk around in white boxers while the women are fully dressed. If you’ve seen the music video for Blurred Line, with Pharrell Williams, it was released and everyone loved it, the music video. And the song. It is, like, a catchy song. But it is men in suits with women who walk naked around them, and nobody reacted. So I wanted to do the same. It got really disgusting, I felt like Harvey Weinstein when I was fully dressed and around me I had twelve men who were wearing almost no clothes. But that was part of the point, though, to see the woman rule this universe. Then the men can simply get to learn their lesson.
It sounds like a very interesting film.
Yeah, it’s… it’s… twelve to fifteen minutes without dialogue. So, it’s pretty out there...“

Unreleased songs - ɟ
Hi, babies 👋🏼. Long time no see 😂 As I said I would, ta-daah!
So, honeys, today’s topic is about unreleased songs as the title of the post suggests, but that’s not what you think. Let me explain. For years I’ve been investigating the world of celebrities, the world of Hollywood, and the more time passes, the more things I’m able to discover, even if ‘slowly’ because I work. As I mentioned in the ‘Award shows’ post, thanks to the time I still have for a while because I’m on vacation for a few more days, I finally had time to find out some information about ‘who?’, ‘how?’, and ‘why?’ we’re getting blessed with so many unreleased songs. I haven’t found an answer to everything yet, but I’m working on it. For now, I’ll tell you what I know and my theories. If any of you know anything more, please, PLEASE DM me: @fa-by.
Let’s go in order. ‘Who?’:
I think that like me, many of you have always wondered ‘Who’s leaking all these songs? Is it a hacker? Is it the artist’s management? Is it the artist themself?’. The answer to these questions is unfortunately still only what I think. For me, it’s the artist’s label. Labels are usually the ones that own the master recording copyrights. [If you want to know more about the subject, I wrote a post about it: ‘How the music world works’. If you’re interested, Mari did this very cool thing for me. All you have to do is click on the #f anon on her blog to see all my posts (I know I sounded like a grandma, but I said it’s cool because I didn’t know it could be done. I’m pretty good with tech in general, but I’m still pretty new to the Tumblr world, okay? Don’t make fun of me 🤓🤣)]
As I also explained in that post, a recording agreement states that the label becomes the owner of all the master recordings recorded by the artist during the period of the agreement. And yes, this also includes unreleased recordings. And that’s why I’m very convinced that it’s the label. Labels are at the tip of the pyramid, and they are the ones who make every decision about their artists. Managements, agents, publicists, etc., only execute directives. So I think they’re the ones leaking those songs through their own IT departments.
It also depends on the cases and why, but sometimes instead, they even paid someone outside, hackers or ordinary people, to do it. The same methods they used to ‘hack’ and spread even false personal data and information about their artists. The reasons vary of course. They may have leaked a song because their artist hadn’t released something in a while and to keep fans engaged. They may have done it to see the fans’ response to that genre of song and if they’ve vibed with it to be able to choose the kind of direction for their artist to take for the new album and next single. They may have done so with a song they knew they were going to officially release just to get more attention on the song itself (example: ‘Love Incredible’ and ‘First Man’). They may have done it simply for publicity and to get people talking about their artist. Really, they may have done so for all sorts of reasons.
This, however, happened mostly in the past. Now, based on what I’ve discovered, I’ve realized that there’s also another reason why they do it. And this reason, leads us to the next question: ‘How?’
I’ve already anticipated how they did in the past and sometimes still do. By using their IT departments or by paying someone outside to do it for them. But I haven’t yet explained how they do it now, which leads to my discovery.
*Little story for you first*🙃 (#donthateme)
I was simply scrolling to see what new music was released and if there was any interesting news. The typical “I was minding my own business when”, you know? Well, that’s how I came across ‘Party Animal’.
I can literally picture you saying to me: “But, Faby, Party Animal is an old song!”. Yes, it is. Party Animal is a 2017 song sung by Charly Black & Luis Fonsi. But did you know that a remix with Camila on it should have been released and that it got scrapped?? 🤯🤯🤯🤯 That’s what I came across! In the snippet to be more precise. I knew the remix existed [I also talked about it in one of my last posts to reply to an Anon], but I’d never listened to its snippet, so imagine my surprise when I found it in front of me out of nowhere! And they even created a mashup between her snippet and the original song to see how the remix would’ve turned out to be. I’m gonna put a piece of the mashup with Camila’s snippet at the end of the post for you to listen to.
Party Animal brought me to the snippets of ‘It’s Only Natural’ ft. Skrillex, the original demo of ‘Sangria Wine’ which together with Pharrell, was initially also supposed to have J Balvin and Young Thug on it, ‘Pretending’ by Lauren, and many others that I didn’t yet know existed, including those I knew about and that I listened to again, like for example the first version of ‘Havana’, that is the first real original demo with Starrah, or ‘Who Can I Run To’ by 5H, or ‘If It Ain’t Me’ by Dua Lipa ft. Normani (leaked unreleased song, recorded for Dua’s Future Nostalgia album), etc., etc.
What happened then? Thanks to those snippets and to the re-listening of all the ones I already knew, I resumed investigating as I’d already started doing this summer, and I finally discovered this:
*end of the little story*
There are sites. Hackers sites that sell these songs. Yes, you read that correctly. SELL. These sites sell unreleased and exclusive music from any artist. From top A singers to less famous and unknown singers. Anyone can register and anyone can buy the songs. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, if you’re lucky enough to have A LOT of money to throw around, then those sites are for you. These sites are not cheap. Some of them charge you money even when you just register.
Do you want examples to better understand? Okay, let’s talk about our Camren.
Remember when I submitted the post with Lauren’s ‘Inside’ studio version on December 17th? Remember how many of you felt guilty to listen to it even though you were happy to do it and even though I told you that Lauren herself said it wouldn’t be on the album? Well, do you wanna know the real reason we got this leaked? Because a Camila fan BOUGHT it from one of those websites and released it as a ‘Christmas gift’ for all of us!
Do you know how on July 21 we had ‘Curious’, ‘Cleopatra’, and ‘Unforgettable’? How on August 22 we had ‘Just Like You’ ft. Jack Ü? How on September 3 we had ‘Come When I Call’ ft. Pharrell Williams, ‘Taxi’, and ‘Eyes on You’? And how the next day, the 4th, we had ‘Terrified’? The only reason we’ve been blessed with all of these unreleased songs by Camila, is because people BOUGHT them from those sites exactly as it happened with Inside!
We’re about to be fed with a lot more, guys. You see, this is another thing I discovered. These websites [I only know of four at the moment, and honestly? It was pretty easy to find them, so it won’t be a problem for you either. But please, please, please guys, don’t ask me to tell you the sites here publicly because I won’t. I don’t want any problems.], these hackers, sometimes release snippets for free to spark buyer interest. These snippets then end up on the internet, and that’s how we ‘mere mortals’ also learn about the existence and titles of songs discarded from albums. But most of the time, even the snippets have to be bought because they’re about highly desired songs. This happens because, for example, maybe an artist has mentioned them in an interview and therefore fans want them.
I’ll give you a practical example. Remember when Camila talked about The Boy? We obviously all freaked out because not only was it a song written by Ed Sheeran that she rewrote almost completely, but mostly because we WANTED and WANT to hear it. Same thing that happened with God Is a Woman. So what did the hackers do? They put the snippets up for sale because they were both very requested songs. Once the snippets were sold and spread well, they put the songs up for sale in full. And do you wanna know how much The Boy is on sale? $3,000 on one unreleased selling site, and $3,500 on another one [Prices I read from the comments of some accounts that are registered on those sites]. I wasn’t kidding when I said they aren’t cheap… Although there are songs that cost less, such as ‘Thinkin Bout One’ (song discarded from the album ‘Camila’) which is currently on sale for $300. Still waaay too much and pretty over the top for my ass.
If you happen to see snippets of Camren’s unreleased songs or 5H’s around, it’s only thanks and because these websites are selling them. Unfortunately, there’s no possibility of having them in full unless someone pays for them first.
And all this leads us to the last question: ‘Why?’
Why? Very simple answer: for money. As I said I explained in my ‘How the music world works’ post [and I’m truly sorry to bring this up again, but it really makes sense with what I’m saying and if you don’t understand what I’m talking about now, then I suggest you go read that first and then come back here], labels buy some songs for the album from authors and ghostwriters, and invest on the artist by giving them an advance to make that album. This advance is mainly reserved to pay for the recording of the album, and this means paying for the recording costs, which includes the payment of A LOT of other things that I explained there. What interests us in this case, is that the recording costs also include all those songs that were later discarded from an album.
The labels paid to have the artist do those songs, and since they weren’t released, they didn’t make any money off those songs. Neither the labels nor the artists who recorded them. Or rather, the labels have certainly regained the money invested to make them thanks to the recoupment of the recording costs. Either immediately, or in any case later thanks to cross-collateralization. But the artist? They just lost money, and they both earned no royalties or licenses precisely because those songs were never released.
So what did they come up with to make money on those songs too? They put them up for sale. Theory’s time: In my opinion, labels use hackers because they know how not to be tracked. Think about it.
I’ll give you an example. If you were to create a site, would you know how to protect it? Would you know what data is coming in and out of your website? Would you know which functions are constantly running and which are not? Would you know which programs transmit data externally and which ones don’t? Would you know which programs are suspicious? Would you know to create alternative algorithms, security plugins, and serious firewalls that prevent unauthorized access? I could go on all day, but if your answer is no, then I guess you get my point.
They use external hackers. People outside their IT departments in such a way as not to create any kind of connection between them. They use them as they would use publishers, distributors, and collection agencies with an officially released song all at once. It’s a give-and-take. The hackers take the necessary security measures and create the sites, the labels pass the unreleased songs to them, and the hackers put them up for sale. Once sold, the hackers get their share and the labels get the biggest percentage. It’s actually brilliant if you think about it.
Now let’s move on to the last small part of this post.
Do the artists know that their unreleased songs are for sale? I think they really do. And I’ll tell you more. I think they have deals with their own label to get their share of sales as well. I believe that they’re also themselves (with label approval of course) who choose which one to put up for sale and which one to keep to use in the future, whether it’s for an album or simply to take and use part of the lyrics from that song for a new one.
And then, think about it for a moment. Do you really believe that if someone else had ‘stolen’ them and put them up for sale, the labels wouldn’t have noticed? That they wouldn’t immediately have shut down their sites and take action since it’s not a single song? And I’m also talking about legal measures that they would have taken together with the authors of those songs since they, the labels, are the owners of the master recording copyrights, and the authors are the owners of the composition copyrights. Come on, my friends. Do you have any idea how powerful major labels are? But anyway.
Do I think we have a problem? Do I think all of this could lead to problems for the girls for their future sales? Nope. I honestly think this is just more publicity for them. I think thanks to these songs, people/fans can even more and really see how talented they are, especially in lyrics. Lauren for example, who still hasn’t graced us with her album. These songs are like appetizers while waiting for the main course: LJ1.
And now I’m really done 😄 I remind you that all these unreleased songs for sale are scraps of their albums, scraps of remixes and collaborations, and scraps in general, so they’re not really harming them by selling them. Don’t let yourself get unnecessary heart attacks, please🤣
If you have any questions, as usual, all you have to do is ask. I send you lots of love with virtual hugs 🤗 Stay safe. Stay patient. Be kind to yourself and others. I love you, babies. As usual, always with love, F ❤️
As promised, this is the mashup piece with Camila’s snippet:
Still here, hi 👋🏼😊 aaand super bonus for you just because I love you. I know this is gonna literally make you scream, jump, cry, and I mean, it will literally get you out of your minds exactly as it did to me. I present to you a demo of No Way (my second favorite 5H song) ONLY SUNG BY CAMREN!!!!!! It’s only 42 seconds, and the only difference is actually Camila who sings also Normani’s part before hers, but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, it’s heavenly 😻😍 Thank me later and for now, just enjoy, my children, just enjoy:
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Euphoria (Angus Cloud x Original Character) (Part 2)
Summary: You and Angus meet at an audition for the show Euphoria. But how long will it take for them to become friends and maybe even lovers?
Word Count: 1.2k
Warnings: none, just lowkey shitty writing lol like I said, this is like my very first pieces of works that I put in the internet so bear with me on this one. I revised and edited it as much as I could, if there’s anything you wanna see changed or included, let me know lmfao
One month later…
"That'll be 10 bucks kid." I said to the teenager in front of me as I handed her the movie ticket.
"Thank you." The teenager said as she handed me the money and went about her way. I smiled back as I looked up towards the clock in front of me.
5 minutes until break…
"Hey Jason!" I sang as I turned around to face him with a sarcastic smile.
"Yeah?"
"Your turn now dude." I said as I patted his chest as I started walking towards the break room.
Finally. Some rest.
I groaned as I sat down as my feet started to regain some feeling after standing for 6 hours straight with no end. Working in a movie theater is some hard shit.
Twenty minutes into my break and scrolling through Instagram, my screen goes dark and the call screen pops up.
Unknown Caller ID…
I scrunched my confusion as to who would call me and held the phone up to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hello is this Cassidy Holmes?"
"Yes. This is she." I responded as I put the phone on speaker.
What the hell?
"This is the representative from your audition for Euphor-"
"Oh shit!" I mumbled as I jumped and fumbled the phone between my fingers.
"Excuse me?"
"Oh nothing. Sorry."
"I'm calling to let you know that you have gotten the role for Kayla Williams in Euphoria."
"Oh my gosh, thank you so much!"
"Shooting starts in 6 weeks at 9 AM sharp. Congratulations."
9 AM. Sweet baby Jesus.
"Ok. Thank you again."
I hung up the phone and celebrated like a kid in a candy store. I don't think anyone knows the struggle of trying to land a role, especially right after college. Shit's hard. But, the fact of the matter is, and as of right now, there's no better way to celebrate than with your best friend. Tonight, we were gonna make like Snoop Dogg and Pharrell and drop it like it’s hot.
I left the break room and threw my uniform at Jason.
“Hey Jason, cover my shift?”
“Uh, why are you not in your uniform?”
“I got the role and I’m celebrating early. Please don’t tell Lindsey.”
You see, Lindsey is a pretty much a tyrant in the workplace. Some people get a little bit of power and their ego gets inflated. Everyday we deal with her attitude and have to walk on eggshells around her. If you catch her smiling, we just just hope whatever it is continues to do that, or else we feel her wrath.
“Oh shit! Congratulations. Now go before the She-Devil comes back.”
_______
"Destiny, girl!" I shouted as I threw my keys into the bowl next to me.
"What?" She shouted from upstairs.
"Get that ass down here, I have some news" I shouted back as I grabbed something from the fridge.
"You brought me down here for what? I’m in the middle of my skincare rou- wait, first of all, why are you not at work?" Destiny said as she entered the kitchen, sporting some pink rollers in her hair with a cheetah print robe and some fuzzy slippers.
"And what is this little get up?" I said once I noticed her ensemble. It made me laugh a little bit because this outfit matched who she was but didn’t at the same time. Then there was me who preferred to keep it simple with jeans and t-shirt.
"An outfit for a bad bitch like me that's what this is." She laughed. "You like?"
"Um, it's definitely you.”
"Whatever. What did you call me down here for anyways? I was in the middle of Netflix and a face mask." Des said as she leaned on the island.
"So I got a phone call today..."
“And? Cassidy if you’re gonna play with then I’m just gonna go back upstairs-” She said, beginning to make her way upstairs.
“I got the role I auditioned for..” I said, slightly raising my voice.
"Don't play with me." She said as she turned in surprise.
"I'm not playing. They called me earlier while I was on break."
"Oh my gosh…" She screamed while running up to me and hugging me tightly.
"I'm so proud of you."
"Thank you." I closed my eyes and started to tear up a bit. "Alright." I said while fanning my eyes.
"Bitch, we gotta celebrate!" Destiny started moving towards our stash of alcohol and grabbed some shot glasses.
"To my best friend Cassidy. The only person that puts up with me and my antics. Congratulations on landing this life changing role. May this bring you many blessings. It's only up from here." She raised her shot glass.
"Euphoria!" She shouted.
"Euphoria."
We took the shots and immediately started to choke from the burning in our throats.
"What the fuck is that and where'd you get it from?" I said holding my throat, hopefully to relieve my throat from the arson it’s going through right now.
"Girl I don't know, some foreign shit. I got it while I was on tour. It looked appealing." Des said as she tried to look at the name but failed because she couldn't understand it.
"I'm just gonna throw this out."
"Yeah, please."
"Oh hush up girl, you're a lightweight nonetheless." Des scowled.
"And? What about it?"
"Girl." she sucked her teeth.
"I'm going back to my Netflix session in my sanctuary. Congratulations to you bestfriend. I WOULD say let's party all night but you have work tomorrow and I'm kinda comfortable in my bed right now." she said walking back upstairs.
"Hold on, I wanna join you"
"Well hurry on up then."
I rushed to get the snacks and drinks from the fridge. For the rest of the night, Des and I watched Netflix to our heart's content and then knocked out. Today was a rather good day.
_______
2 weeks later…
2 days after the Euphoria crew called to tell me the news, they called again to tell me I have to come in today for chemistry and table reads.
We haven't even started shooting yet and this is already so stressful. Meanwhile, Destiny is gonna be at the studio all day working on her album.
They texted me where the reads were going to be held and ironically it’s the same place where I auditioned. Hopefully things run smoothly.
Once I get there, it takes me another 10 minutes to find a parking space that didn't have an unreasonable amount of distance from the entrance. I check in with the main desk to tell them I'm here for Euphoria. Then, I get led into this huge room with a large roundtable full of people. I'm guessing everyone whose also apart of the show.
Table read first it is.
"She's here."
It got silent and everyone at the table turned their eyes to me.
Oh shit. Oh shit.
I looked at them and they looked at me. To distract myself from the awkwardness, I went to go sit in the only seat available. Ironically enough, the seat open was next to the red headed dude from a while back. Huh. He must've gotten the role he auditioned for also.
I could feel his eyes on me as I sat down.
"Hi." I smiled, being polite.
"What’s up?" He nodded.
“I’m Cassidy.” I whispered as I stuck my hand out, waiting for him to shake it.
“Angus.”
I smiled again and sunk down into my seat. This is going to be a long day.

Did Meghan Markle appear via video link at today’s Sandringham showdown? In my head, she did. In my head, she didn’t even just “dial in”, but was beamed into the Queen’s Long Library from the Canadian waterfront mansion in which she’s sought refuge, like a Hollywood A-lister picking up an award from a provincial backwater it wasn’t worth making the trip to.
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t be with you today,” she would have begun, unleashing that expensive Hollywood dentistry. “I’m on mom duty, as you know. So if Archie suddenly needs a change, you may all just have to bear with me.” Then a slanting of the brows and widening of the eyes – the way she was told, “to emphasise sincerity”, in drama class. “But this moment means so much to me. Really.”
One would hope so. There’s little doubt it was Markle who brought about the summit in the first place. Harry, bless his cotton polo shirts, won’t even know what “progressive” means. And that the Duchess of Sussex wouldn’t make the effort (or was too cowardly) to fly in and thrash out a plan with the Queen – but was happy to fly to New York to watch her pal Serena Williams in the US Open finals when Archie was four months old – is a defining fact in a long list of facts that have defined Meghan Markle in my eyes.
Not one of those facts has anything to do with her heritage. Because, in case you’ve missed the diplomatic incident sparked by Megxit and stoked by the kind of commentators who are always ready to whip out the easiest and laziest card in the pack, it’s not Meghan’s actions that have driven out the young couple, but racism: yours and mine.
Writing in The New York Times, British author Afua Hirsch decried our “racist treatment of Meghan”, which “proved what many of us have always known: no matter how beautiful you are, whom you marry, what palaces you occupy, charities you support, how faithful you are, how much money you accumulate or what good deeds you perform, in this society racism will still follow you”.
Supplant the word “racism” for “criticism”, and Oxford-educated Hirsch is bang on. We love our royals and, like a nation of nightmare mother-in-laws, we’re overprotective and intrusive, zeroing in on every tiniest spousal misstep and capable of coddling an inexhaustive number of petty grudges at any one time.
So, yes, we sighed, snarked and snorted about silly things, like Markle closing her own car door, the fact that in six months this woman spent five times what any royal in the whole of Europe had on clothes, and various Marie-Antoinette-isms involving things like penning empowering messages on bananas for sex workers. And yes, the courtiers will also have been uniquely poisonous about all of that and more.
But as a former Hollywood actress, this can’t be Markle’s first encounter with back-stabbing and bitchery? And weren’t Camilla and Fergie put through exactly the same baptism of fire?
Remember that Saturday, when we welcomed Ms Markle into the fold? I was in the grounds of Windsor Castle. I saw the Brits who had travelled to be there celebrating the arrival of the first African-American member of the Royal family – many of them mixed-race couples (estimated to be 9 per cent of the population in the UK, as opposed to just 4.6 per cent in Wokeville, Canada, and 2 per cent in the US).
And what struck me then, as someone who has lived in the US on and off for the past decade, was how blissfully uncluttered and unpolarised we were by racial issues in comparison. How very – to coin Megxit terminology – naturally and unselfconsciously “progressive”: a thought echoed by Trevor Phillips this month, who called Britain “the only country in the world where a sizeable mixed-race population has come about as a consequence of love, rather than coercion or slavery”. It struck me, too, that we were very optimistic about a woman we knew so little about.
Over time, that optimism was eroded not by the occurrence of rapid-onset racism, but by Markle’s actions and behaviour. The capriciousness over Frogmore Cottage, Archie’s hide-and-seek christening and the ghastly press, who simply would not pander in the way that they were ordered to.
Oh, and the overt whinging about us to everyone from Pharrell Williams (“they don’t make it easy”) to Tom Bradby: “Not many people have asked if I’m OK,” she told the journalist as – in an eye-watering feat of narcissism – she managed to eclipse every cause she and her husband had gone to Africa to highlight, and make it all about her.
In toddler tantrum-style, the list goes on, ending only with yesterday’s emergency summit. So, no, Meghan: had you been blonde-haired and blue-eyed, you wouldn’t have been judged any differently. Because this isn’t racism: this is piece-of-work-ism.

Hello Shiro !! 💖 Thank you for waiting for me to reply, I've not been feeling well ://
Vibrate is much better, and lmao a scream? 😝😝The actual most affective way to wake up. Our schools here totally don't allow phones either :') but they're half-a-day ones so I don't think it matters much. My ringtone is "Super Freak" by Rick James. I think it's hilarious😭
I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope you are okay now 💖 every day does indeed have an end, that's the most important thing to remember :')
KDJSKSHS !!! they expect us to be cheery while we still have sleep in us. Like, no sir, please. 😭 Plus those songs have really strong bases which can really mess with someone in the MORNING 😭🙃🔫
you're such a sweetheart, I always believe in you haha, you can literally do anything you put your mind to. But it's understandable that your friends voiced out. It sounds hard on everyone. I hope the school at least listened?
the whole violet Evergarden series is wonderful. The animation is gorgeous, but it's so so so heartbreaking. I also recently read the "song of Achilles" (by Madeline Miller) it was so beautifully written. Here's some art I found on Pinterest, because it pretty much summarises the book. (They're so perfect together, I can't !!! 😭😭)
you'll win indeed, AND AKJDSKHSJA NOOOO don't get spoiled there are so many spoilers 😭😂 aot is my favourite anime because it's so complex hhhh. Have you started watching?
I try, haha. Yes, that team really holds a special place in my heart. My mom has banned me from watching glee anymore tho ㅠㅠ but I hope you'll enjoy watching it when you start <3
I love you, Cookie. Once again, thank you for being so patient and understanding 💖 I've really missed you :)
—Ari
Hi Shortcake!! Thank you for taking your time to answer<3 I hope you feel better soon, sending good vibes your way
Yeah, it is! Though I had some roommates that were dedicated to sleep even through that one. I still think they're too powerful. You're lucky its half a day, we dont get our phones till the end of the week. Though I think it's better and actually effective, because we do stuff that's something other than scrolling aimlessly through our phone. In my case, though, its fantasizing so I dont think it's really productive but mmmm... Also I checked the lyrics for it, and I'm ajfjwkkx😭😭 I'd love that as my ringtone.
I've been feeling surprisingly well these past few days! I got to rest more and I have naps during the day which is kind of cool. I dont like taking naps cuz then I cant fall asleep at night, past the past week was exhausting so they actually help more <3
EXACTLY like I dont want to listen to a song about, what, pain? Whatever. Stop that. That is not energizing, bring the Happy by Pharrel Williams at least
Heheh, thank you. Thankfully they did try to resolve it, and it worked out, so we can write it down on our school's history book and let the next generation see what we did😁 the revolution of whatever .... uhhhhh yeah !
Ohh god this looks so promising!! I'm gonna add this to my read list, hopefully I can check it out soon🥺 the art is so pretty.
Sadly I couldnt start watching it yet, mostly cuz I hadn't gotten a hold of wifi for any longer than 2 minutes 😭 and my storage space is running out, which is also a pain. Somehow my 64 Gigabytes got filled up with anime screenshots, so I'll have to get rid of those<\3
What!!! For what?! You better sneak those views in sometimes. It makes you happy so not watching it isnt a good thing >:(
I love you more! And I missed you so much too🥺 I'm glad you're taking rests though, as you should ♡

@sunflowers-and-sabers tagged me!
Top Ten Things:
Movies:
1. Heathers (it's my favorite movie)
2. Remember The Titans (bromance, sports, sad, but wholesome, true story)
3. Coraline (creepy doll animation but it's iconic)
4. Blind Date (cute french movie)
5. Dark Phoenix (x men)
6. The Babysitter (horror comedy)
7. Boy Bye (hilariously bad)
8. Twilight series (why the hell not just appreciate the bad CGI)
9. Into The Woods (it's on some serious crackhead energy, I have never laughed at a movie more)
10. Lion (true story)
11. Slumdog millionaire (true story)
I don't really watch movies so this took a while. These are not in order and otherwise for Heathers these may or may not be my favorite movies. I don't have a favorite movie list all I know is that Heathers is my favorite.
Books/Stuff You Can Read:
1. I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman (my favorite book)
2. All For The Game Series by Nora Sakavic (my favorite book series, the main focus of my blog, trigger warning: slurs are used, rape, self-harm is mentioned, will emotionally hurt but you can't imagine your life without it once you fall in love with it)
3. In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan (Definitely one of my favorite, fantasy, queer)
4. Chasing Redbird by Sharon Creech (Realistic fiction I guess, I read this for school summer reading but I liked it)
5. Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan (I don't know if the book is a true story, if not realistic fiction, I read this for school summer reading but I liked it)
6. Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst (fantasy, lesbians (or wlw), a series but I don't know the name of the series cause I only read the first book)
7. The Outsiders by S.E Hinton (I know it's a classic but if you haven't read it you should, I read this for school but I liked it)
8. More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera (queer, science fiction, trigger warning: depression, self-harm, attempt at suicide)
9. Royals by Rachel Hawkins (I'm gonna admit it's not that original but I'm trash for it, royalty, outsider welcomed to royal life)
10. Montague Siblings series (History fiction, gay)
This list is pretty wack. I love books but the moment I had to make this list they all kind of left mind. Also, the person who tagged me already used some books I would recommend. This is not a favorites list and this is not in order. These are just random recommendations.
Songs:
(definitely going to be more than 10)
1. Are You Bored Yet by Wallows ft. Clairo
2. Wait A Minute! by Willow Smith (my ringtone)
3. Feels by Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, Big Sean (I listened to this song while reading all for the game cause Andrew and Neil 😂)
4. Spectrum by Zedd ft. Matthew Koma
5. W.D.Y.W.F.M by The Neighborhood
6. On My Own (lofi) by Tessa Violet
7. Just Add Water by Cavetown
8. Dead Roses by Blackbear

When The Novelty Wears Off
After watching the highly anticipated 60 Minutes Australia’s segment titled “How Meghan Markle Lost Her Sparkle”, I finally felt validated in my opinions of Meghan Markle. They covered (most) everything that we have all been saying for quite some time now. It was especially gratifying hearing royal correspondent Katie Hopkins slam the duchess for her diva-ish behavior. Katie covered everything from the private jet hypocracy to Meghan acting like a celebrity and everything invetween. I found myself nodding my head, and shouting “Yes”! at my computer screen after Katie’s tangent.
Then came the part where they tried to compare Meghan to Princess Diana, asking if “history would repeate itself”. Again, I started nodding my head, and shouting at my computer screen, but this time, I was nodding & shouting “No”! Diana’s & Meghan’s circumstances are entirely different. I don’t understand this constant need to compare the two, as you’re only adding to Meghan’s obsession with her. As Patrick Jepson pointed out, Diana was a real Britton, who understood real British issues. Her portfolio impressive, especially for a Royal. Meghan needs to stop trying to be Diana. Never will she be remotely close to as influential or as loved as Princess Di. And that’s not because Meghan doesn’t have a good work ethic, it’s because she isn’t genuine, and people sense that. Everything is about fashion, and Glitz & Glam. Real brittons, who are facing real life crisis’ could care less about all that noise. Diana was genuine. Meghan is not.
See? Genuine.
And then they brought up the dreaded, over-played “R” word. Racism. I found it both comical & ironic that even Patrick Jepson explained that he advised Harry not to go that route. That going with the “everyone is just racist” narrative would fail. Jepson went on to explain that “The whole racial question is entirely misleading, it’s irrelevant, and I would warn against anybody taking that line as any sort of explanation as to why Meghan sometimes doesn’t get the press she necessarily wants”. He goes on to say that “If you take that point of view, then you’re going to miss perhaps, some more relevant reasons as to why Meghan isn’t as popular as she should be”. A bit of word-salad, but on pointe, nonetheless.
Fast-forward to September 8th, and suddenly we have all of these pro-Meghan Markle articles being pushed down our throats. Two of them stood out to me. The first was an article posted by Vanity Fair. The headline was “Meghan Markle’s Impromptu U.S. Open Trip Shows Shes Learning From the Criticism”. Im sorry, what? Have we been following the same Meghan Markle? The same Meghan who snubbed the queen, and turned down her Balmoral invitation? The same Meghan who claimed that “Archie was too young” to travel to Balmoral? The same Meghan who, last month took Archie on a private jet to Ibiza? The same Meghan who left her newborn son and husband & flew across the Atlantic, to watch a 2 hour tennis match? The same Meghan who has her face plastered on the giant Billboard at the U.S. Open, promoting the airline “Emirates”? The same Meghan who insisted that she sit in between Serena Williams’ mother and her husband, forcing Serena’s sister Venus to sit in an entirely different row, all because Meghan refused to sit next to Anna Wintour (because of the Vouge drama)? That Meghan? Just what exactly has she learned? https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2019/09/meghan-markle-impromptu-us-open-trip
The other article titled “Meghan Markle is A Good Friend” also published by Vanity Fair, again, had me shaking my head. Does anyone really give a monkey’s uncle that Meghan Markle is a good friend? Seriously? Because I can think of a hundred different things that people care more about than whether Meghan is a good friend or not, you know, like how they’re going to make rent, or put dinner on the table. Or find a babysitter for their sick kid so they can go to work. You know, real-world problems. Meghan, and apparently the press, seem to be living in La La Land, where everything is rainbows & Unicorn farts. https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2019/09/meghan-markle-serena-williams-new-york-us-open
Meghan needs to live a day in the life of an ordinary citizen, who makes an ordinary living, and who has ordinary problems. Maybe then she will understand what it means to struggle. She’s had her way paid for by others her whole life. It’s no surprise that the result is a selfish, entitled, ignorant duchess who doesn’t think about anyone but herself. Like that comment she made to Pharrell at the Lion King premiere “They Don’t Make It Easy”.
I’m sorry Meghan, that your biggest crisis this week was that the public disproves of you, and your popularity has suffered because of your piss-poor attitude. We kind of have more important things to worry about over here, like getting enough hours at work to pay our mortgages or fix the car so we can actually get to work. Or how we’re going to juggle work, kids, bills, and on top of all that, take care of a sick parent who is unable to care for themselves, physically and financially. But you just keep worrying about you, Meghan. It seems to be working so well. Clearly, Vanity Fair doesn’t get it either. I completely agree with Patrick Jepson; There is a difference between being a celebrity and being Royal. “Celebrity life is earned, Royal life is granted”. Essentially, he’s saying that celebrities have earned their right to live lavishly. Royals, have not.

They also put Evanescence under safe bands like hun if you’ve seen Amy Lee and Jen Majura there’s not a lot of straight in that fandom. I know I’m one of them 😂. I FEEL LIKE I’M LEAKING MY MUSIC BLOG ONTO HERE SORRY LOL.
