sometimes! for one thing, this is normally my typo last line of defense, reading over my own fic several times after i post it, because for some reason that's when i'll finally catch the ones that slip by. but also like... sometimes i want to re-read my stuff! i wrote it because i liked that premise too, you know?

29. Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic.

oh let me open docs and see... oh yeah this is my first extremed timed attempt that got entirely scrapped because i couldn't make it work so i started over with what i could actually write! maybe one day i'll come back to the premise.

“You know, one of these days, we’ll stop meeting like this,” Joe says, running a hand through his incorporeal hair as he takes in the scene. There’s a summoning circle on the ground, of course, and several hastily-lit candles. They’re a fire risk, with the curtains in the room, but Joe’s not that worried, on account of the fact that with the blood everywhere the fire might spread less quickly. Like, he wouldn’t know? He’s neither a serial killer nor an expert on fire? He’s a spirit. A ghost. A being from beyond. He has other things he does. But if he’d had to guess… “Save me, oh beautiful Joe Hills,” cries the bard who summoned him. “You’re my only hope!” Joe sighs. “Oli, you can just ask. You don’t have to—what have you gotten into?” Joe says, actually taking in the—oh, boy, that’s… a surprising amount of blood. And the level of dismembered that body is, well, geez, Joe might be dead himself, but like, he’s not that kind of dead, he’s… Well, whatever is happening here isn’t good, that’s for sure. “I didn’t know who else to ask,” Oli says quietly. “I don’t—well, after this I don’t have many friends, I think. I didn’t do it.” Joe believes him.  “I didn’t—Joe, I didn’t know what else to do. I didn’t—I didn’t,” Oli says. “Okay,” Joe says. “Oh gods, someone’s going to get back here,” Oli says. “That wouldn’t be good,” Joe agrees quietly. “You’ve gotta help me, Joe,” Oli says. “Well, that’s what you summoned me for,” Joe says, but he doesn’t exactly argue. “I know a place you can go. Come with me.” “Okay,” Oli says. “Okay.”

It's actually kinda sexy of Caleb & Evelyn to haunt the narrative so thoroughly while never having any speaking lines or even appearing on screen outside of 400yr old repressed memories, delusions, and/or hyped up folklore

We don't even know for sure if Evelyn was a Clawthorne, or what she looked like, or how the fight between Caleb and Philip went down, or Caleb's reasons for leaving without Philip, or what their half witch half human baby looked like, or how long after Caleb left before Philip found him again, or what Evelyn did when she discovered her dead lover's grave was robbed, or how quickly after killing Caleb did Philip decide "I can make a new Caleb that's Better™"

We have scraps to give us pretty good ideas for most of these, but nope they really just haunt with no reward. Like yeah babes give us nothing!

A sentence in Casey’s book impressed me, even though he didn't name anyone explicitly

“Maybe someone who could put on the charm when they need it regardless of sincerity could have turned the situation around but I don’t have that skill.”

He totally gets that Valentino has endless charm, lol. I’m sure he felt it too when they hung out

yes!! this was about casey and his relationship to the fans wasn't it, and in a section of the book where he was talking about his rivalry with valentino, so hardly a stretch to say it was deliberately alluding to him. and of course casey talking about valentino's charm is not unrelated to how casey did seem to like valentino perfectly fine back in the day... how he said back in 2007 that he liked talking to valentino, that they generally talked about stuff other than racing, how valentino gets on with most guys in the paddock... though it's interesting (if not particularly surprising) how by the time the autobiography is written, casey portrays the early dynamic between the pair of them pretty dispassionately. just from the book you'd get the sense of someone who was coolly respectful of valentino until valentino started pissing him off, rather than someone who was... y'know, also a bit of a fan. somebody who got the valentino rossi appeal, shall we say. we all have our crosses to bear

which, I don't even think it was just about the racing. I doubt he ever wanted to emulate valentino in the same way jorge or marc might have wanted to do off the track, but stuff like calling him a "great competitor and a great sportsman"... that for years he'd been "dreaming to be like him"... that valentino and doohan were "the sort of people I wanted to become like"... I reckon that's a little more than simply respect for him as a rider, and I don't think casey back then would have said that stuff just because he knew it'll play well with the public. he found valentino exciting, like so many before and since have done - and still did so for the entirety of 2006 (he said more recently that he was even more impressed by valentino after that season, which is kinda noteworthy given that's the year valentino did, you know, lose the title). but then they became direct rivals, and. well

of course the "regardless of sincerity" in the quote is pretty pointed lol, like he does clearly see valentino as very two-faced and willing to spin a line regardless of whether it's true or not and also as someone happy to deceive others for his own gains. and his rhetoric has also changed just a wee bit since he published the autobiography on that count, where he more recently does stress how... well, he did learn from how valentino played the media! he learned how to get friendly with journalists! he learned how to play that game, of trying to win the public discourse! he might never have liked it, and he still probably would say like in the autobiography that this "charm" "regardless of sincerity" isn't something that he'll ever be as good at as valentino was. but he did dabble in the dark arts just a touch... I think one of the most interesting tensions of that rivalry is to what extent valentino forced casey out of his comfort zone both on- and off-track and ended up making casey adopt behaviours and attitudes he continued to find reprehensible. casey considers valentino 'selfish' both on- and off-track but to fight him both on- and off-track he became more selfish in turn... very dramatically compelling

Scene from my KnY AU which is entitled, “A Couple of Bad Ideas and a Shot in the Dark.”

“Zenitsu?” Tanjiro blinks. “What are you doing outside in the middle of the night?” Zenitsu doesn’t respond; Tanjiro realizes he must be having a sleepwalking episode. “Come on, let’s get you back to bed,” he says gently, putting a hand on Zenitsu’s arm to guide him back inside. Quicker than Tanjiro can process, Zenitsu grabs his wrist, holding it in an iron grip. He still doesn’t turn to look at him. Tanjiro tries to tug his arm back. Zenitsu’s grip tightens. “Hey,” Tanjiro says, brows furrowed in concern and confusion. “Stop that. Let me go, you’re hurting me.” No response. “Zenitsu. Come on, cut it out. You’re freaking me out.” Finally, Zenitsu speaks. At least, it must be him, because there’s no one else around…but it doesn’t sound like him at all. His voice robotic and almost distorted, nothing like Tanjiro’s ever heard from Zenitsu—or...or even a human—before. But what he says is even stranger. “Sleepwalker Agent 038 has been activated.”

Tanjiro feels his heart rate begin to pick up. He tries to unfurl Zenitsu’s fingers tightened around his wrist. Something is not right. Zenitsu faces Tanjiro. His head is tilted to the side and his eyes are all white. His expression is blank, totally emotionless. Tanjiro finally frees his arm, and he stumbles backwards. “What…what’s going on?” That same strange voice, the one that can’t possibly belong to him: “Target identified. Termination to ensue.” “What?” Tanjiro sputters. Zenitsu begins to walk towards him, face completely void of emotion. “Zenitsu! What are you doing? Snap out of it! What the heck are you talking about?” “Any attempts to reach host will be unsuccessful. The Sleepwalker will remain in control until target has been terminated.” Zenitsu stops walking for a moment. Then the porch lights go out, leaving them lit only by the moon, peeking out through the clouds. Electricity crackles around Zenitsu for a moment, indicating he’s charged up. And then he lunges forward with the intent to kill.

For the brief of Villain (and mirror to her current self), I was aiming for ✨Intimidating✨ …hopefully we got close.

Indie dresses like such an Edgelord anyway it was hard to decide how to dress her for a villainous alter ego. At least this is something I know she wouldn't wear as Warrior of Light (it shows off far too much butt). In any case, the pose and expression had to do all the lifting here.
