I decided that arthur pendragon would be a total die hard swiftie. He would deny it on the pane of death, but arthur started planning his and Gwen's wedding after (1) date/wants to run away to live on a farm with merlin pendragon would definitely love folklore and lover (the archer? daylight?). He would ofc know all her earlier stuff by heart because he was that dramatic as a teenager (oh my god he'd love speak now).

Merlin is tricky. I think he'd like her music but he's not that much of a hopless romantic to me. He would love evermore because it's full of people making and living with difficult decisions. He would love reputation too because he can relate to most songs on it. He would however start humming taylor awift songs around arthur after he finds Arthur's secret stash of taylor swift albums/sees Arthur's browser history after arthur strongly denined knowing who taylor is even, just to drive arthur insane.

Since we're working in analogies again: if you're a shepherd, I'm still a sheepdog. The wolf was the infinite self. It's guarding the gate. That's how the hostage thing works. If you want to know how many I have, you're going to need to do a really big census, but that kind of feels like a waste of time when there are so many fires to put out. If you're a firefighter, I left you a copy of my hydrant. It worked for me. Hopefully your fires are smaller, but mine was barely embers by the time I doused it, so it's okay if it takes time before we feel ready to cut the cake. If you're a fisher, I think I'm a decent lighthouse. If you prefer fruit and vegetables, I'm a pollinator. If you're a baker or a chef, feel free to look at my recipe. If you make handicrafts, I hope the sweater isn't too ugly, but maybe don't cast it into the fire even if it is. If none of this makes sense, maybe we should all learn a bit more about the difference between a forest and a garden and a house. Gardens rarely exist without houses, but they are tended to by the ones who live in the house. Forests just sort of happen, and nature has to do everything Herself (admittedly with the help of a very devoted but occasionally misguided mycelial network). I think I'm okay with living in a garden instead of a house, but I am not interested in being a biblically accurate leprechaun any more.

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.

good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.

sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.

so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.

one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.
