okok so she doesn't know about him being a famous criminal and she finds him like super aesthetically pleasing, like his looks, the scars etc. yk. He seems very interesting to her.

In her eyes, all about him is a piece of art and he's like super impressed by her talent and her kindness.

 And so they chat a little and then he asks her for her NUMBER AND WHEN SHE GETS HOME SHE IMMEDIATELY RECEIVES A MESSAGE FROM HIM, ASKING IF SHE'D GO OUT ON AN ART MUSEUM DATE!?!? AND THEN THEY GO ON A FUCKIN' ART MUSEUM DATE TOGETHER?!?!

or she sees him while she's painting and she thinks he's so breathtakingly pretty that she paints him and when she's finished, she confidently walks over to him and hands him the painting and then the rest happens?!?! 

omg I have to make this a one shot, I'm crying-

and when they're together, they move in together and he especially picked out an apartment with an extra room, so that could be her own little atelier?

And when he's exhausted from "work", he likes to make them both a coffee and watch her paint for fuckin' HOURS, or, if she doesn't paint in that moment, they snuggle up with blankets on the couch together and watch art documentaries until they fall asleep?!?! 

If they watch documentaries about artists, she often starts crying, either because their lifes were so tragic, or because their art is so pretty. Mostly both. Jerome gets all confused then but adores his girlfriend for being so empathetic and how such things can impact her or make her feel in such a way. 

And sometimes when they both have time, they go out together and they pick out a nice place to paint. Sometimes those are places which either her or him find very beautiful and then she paints them on like cafe or picnic dates (depends on the place) and he collects all those drawings and paintings and keeps them in kind of a collection folder or he goes and gets them framed so he can put them up on the walls of their living room or kitchen?

From time to time he even asks her, if she could paint him (she does that so often, he's kind of like her muse) or he asks if they could paint together and if she could teacch him some techniques. 

He also asks her to explain the painting tools she uses to him. 

"What the fuck is gouache YN?"

"Why would you use a spatula? And then even in 12 different sizes."

" What do you sketch the little squares for?"

"What does the 'HB' on your pencil mean?"

It's so funny and adorable to her, how interested he is in her hobby. It's so cute.

Oh and he randomly brings you stuff, even if he doesn't know what it's for.

"Hey YN! I just came back and guess what I brought you? A palette of aquarelles! I can't really tell the difference between watercolors and this, but the palette was so small and cute, I had to get it for you."

Do you have a set process for coloring and rendering / adding texture to your art? If so, would it be alright for me to ask what goes into that process? I'd love to learn how an artist I admire goes about their work!

Omg I'm so flattered, I'll try my best to explain it!! ^^

Tho, okayyy, I apologize beforehand for how incoherent this might be, since I don't really have a set process at all and mostly I fake it 'til i make it haha. I'm the first to admit that I don't have a ver consistent method and that shows in how irregular in quality my art can look, even inside the general sketchy look.

(Btw sorry if some of the fanart i use for example doesn't make you comfortable but I've tried to find the best examples for each type of coloring haha)

I'll start with the brushes I rely on the most, tho I admit i made the mistake of downloading too many brushes and textures so I might use others on rare occassions xddd

These are basically the brushes I use the most. The "mezclador redondo" is just CSP's default paintbrush and I only tweaked it to find sth I liked and felt comfortable with for both lining and painting

As you can see here I only used one layer for lines and other three for each of the guys' colors. I colored it all with the default brush (tho unfortunately I lost the settings I used for this drawing in particular and haven't found them again rip). In drawings like this I just do a sketch, clean the lines (no lineart) and then paint it. After the base color I start laying out different hues to make the coloring more interesting.

This one was the same. One layer for coloring, manually adding lighter hues (see the more light and yellowish color on grovyle's left leg compared to the shadow) or darker tones. I try to add color to the shadows as well to make them feel less flat, and an airbrush in overlay tends to help with that (tho here I just used a brush).

Here you can see that I often paint over the lines on another layer to correct mistakes in the "lineart" lol. I also applied an airbrush (layer mode overlay) over celebi to make her more bright. I wanted to put this one to show that coloring doesn't have to be detailed to look nice enough. Here Celebi basically has no shadows at all but the tone of the drawing makes her look cute anyways imo ^^

In these two you can see adjustements over the full image again (yellow layer), but I also wanted to show that I don't have a set number of layers either, it depends on how many I feel like using. Again, sorry for the lack of consistency but im too lazy to have a proper method lmao

I will also use harder brushes and tone changes sometimes, instead of blending them with less dense brushes. I am also fond of adding hard lighting in some drawings. You can experiments with it on a top layer and delete it if it doesn't fit, so it's always worth a try.

Another thing I recommend is studying and copying artists you admire or like. Add things from their styles into yours, see how they work with proportions and try to use that in your own art. It has helped me a lot and, without looking to fully copy anyone's style, it does give you some ideas of how you wish your drawing would look, which motivates me (when it doesn't depress me lol)

Finally, the texturing isn't consistent either. I use one of CSP's/Downloaded texture packs, put a grainy texture on the canvas, set it to overlay and adjust the opacity until I'm satisfied. In these two images you can see I am not consistent in coloring even in the same comic lmao. But we are doing this for fun, so I think experimentation is always sth worth exploring ^^

And I think that's all I have to say. I don't control color theory at all, so I can't really explain how I choose colors. I look up some tutorials on youtube and pretend I understand lol. Ig the one thing I tend to do a lot is changing hues in a base color to make it look less flat, the same as with shadows.

3. Describe the creative process of writing a chapter / fic

I always start with an outline! For a long-form work like Lucid Dreams the outlining process is a little like the underpainting in an oil painting — the purpose is to set the tone and arrange the major shapes in the composition to ensure that it’ll come together into something pleasing. The outline starts with broad strokes and becomes more detailed with each pass. With Lucid Dreams I began with the idea of opening on Alastor meeting a human Lucifer in New Orleans, only for the reader to later realize that the story is not an AU — that both of them are still in the hotel. The next major plot tentpoles were Hollis, Lucifer’s ability, their deal, and Alastor’s trip to Heaven.

When I begin each chapter, I always have a pretty clear idea of what I need to accomplish and how, so it’s just a matter of filling in details. I have a playlist for the fic I always listen to while I’m writing — music really helps me to hold the tone in my head while I’m working. 

Ideally I’d write the entire story before posting anything so I can set up and follow through on story beats, but that isn’t as fun, lol. For Lucid Dreams I write chapters at least 2 weeks in advance, which accomplishes a couple of things:

it makes it possible for me to maintain a consistent update schedule when I’m busy (I even updated Lucid Dreams during my cross-country move!)

it allows me move beats around and set up references within that window so the story feels cohesive

it lets each chapter marinate in my head for a little while before posting, which is super helpful for revision

This amount of lead time has worked pretty well for Lucid Dreams — there’s only a couple of things I would change if I could:

I realized after Ch. 10 that I wish I had made Lucifer’s human eyes green instead of blue (like Eden 🥺)

There’s a scene I really want to add to Ch. 2. I still might sneak it in there if I have time lol!!!

the Wicked Game series by Trashdemonx — I’ve gotta mention this one because this author honestly might be the best smut writer I have encountered in more than a decade of reading fanfiction — I will absolutely be returning to their work to study it whenever I find myself writing a scene with any kind of physical intimacy.

14. How do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?

I am honestly just a very emotional person, lol! I am formerly religious and I often leverage that background for Lucid Dreams, which is certainly cathartic — but in general I don’t draw as much on personal experience for Lucid Dreams as I do for my original work. I have never been to New Orleans, and I am not the Devil. That said, there are elements of the characters’ internal worlds that I see reflected in myself which helps me to write them!

43. Do you take sadistic joy in whumping your characters, or are you more the “If you hurt them I would kill everyone and then myself” kind of person?

When I was younger I always pulled my punches with characters — I’m a very empathetic person and I struggled to bring characters (and myself, and readers) down into dark places. But my best artistic work has always arisen from a kind of feral impulse to capture and reflect pain — it is actually just like the description of Alastor’s second kill in chapter 9. As I’ve gotten older I’ve come to understand life as a cycle of making and unmaking, losing and gaining — pain lays the foundation for healing, and that cycle is an essential aspect of the human experience. So I’m no longer afraid of taking my characters all the way down. It certainly isn’t sadistic for me, but it is cathartic, and it makes my work a far better reflection of life. 

56. What’s something about your writing you pride yourself on? 

omg why is this so hard 💀💀

I am a storyteller professionally — I started writing Lucid Dreams after a work-related trauma left me at the lowest I have ever been artistically. This story (and all the nice comments I’ve received about it 🥺) has helped me recover, which is why the prose in Ch. 10 is so much stronger than the prose in Ch. 1. But I’m still not incredibly happy with it, which probably speaks to my own perfectionism more than anything lol. 

So what do I feel Lucid Dreams does well? In the show, we really only see Lucifer and Alastor’s characters at a surface level, and I feel Lucid Dreams is successful at giving them both a complex, realistic, and relatable inner world. I’m also honestly shocked by how tightly constructed and elegant the plot came out — I’ve gotten way more skilled at constructing long-form plots in the past few years and I think that really comes through here.

I know all of the artists you listed below because my dad blasts them on the radio everytime we go out... I call it old people music but hey I never said it was bad, they're awesome and I might have memorised some of the artist's songs from how much I listen to them... Barış Manço is a classic without a doubt! Fun fact my parents were able to go to his concert and got a signed picture with him I will always envy how lucky they were 😭 I love how women in the industry made the most iconic songs I hear them often in weddings too! Or clubs, even though I only went to one once I'm not very fond of them...

My questions were do you have any tips or inspiration with how you draw! I love your art and artstyle and it's honestly what I've been trying to achieve for a while, I can't believe I'm learning how to draw men because of a silly lawyer show it's a disease...

OH MY GOD i envy them too😭😭 also omg that sounds like heaven to me. the other day i went out partying and i felt sooo out of place because i only knew like 3 songs. omg it was so so bad.

hmmm tips and inspiration…. my number 1 tip would definitely be to look at a lot of other artists you like and analyze what exactly you like. and then try to emulate that in your own work. i try to look for inspiration everywhere - artists online, traditional artists, old masters, 3d artists, even theatre and poetry, etc. - doesnt mean that i am equally inspired by them all (because all these things at once sound so scary and big but they really arent!) but rather, i try to be open for anything and that helps me find inspiration :) 

ill try to explain my thoughts more under the cut because this got long:

for me for example, so far i only posted some art i made that was lined (which, i would say makes up maybe half of the art i draw - i mostly sketch and recently have been building up the courage to paint more) and one of my inspirations is meltow. i think if you go over and check out their art youll definitely see it lol. but also i love the clean look some comics have and my friends tell me my art looks like it belongs in a comic which, i guess yeah :) when it comes to colors and composition i LOVE this artists works. i still have a lot to learn and just looking at their works inspires me so much!!!

i will say i have ALWAYS struggled with lineart. its probably the worst thing in the world to me because it never feels right!!! i like lining on paper with harsh inks and stiff ink nibs that allow for like. very little variety in line weight, but i havent done that in over 3 years (i hope i can get back to that). but yes, something about lineart makes me feel so icky when i use any brush that reacts to the pressure you put on your tablet LOL i just hate it. ugh. i havent been able to work it out.

it was only in 2020 i think that i decided to try it out with a thick brush with some texture and no pen pressure. that probably was the first time i got actual lineart that (at the time) i liked done. and then later on, discovering that other artists are able to achieve beautiful drawings with similar brushes AND that lining with a very simple brush can feel so satisfying helped me evolve a lot! until 2022, i actually wasnt able to give my art the kind of finished look that i wanted. so what people consider my style is really just born out of my limits and working with them. that obviously doesnt mean that i dont try to challenge myself as much as i can. i do and i think everyone should! thats what makes art so fun

if theres any good advice i can give to a beginner itd probaaaaably be. okay this is difficult and i feel like im not really qualified for this. as a hobbyist much less so because a lot of the knowledge and skills i acquired was through an intuitive process (i could never stick with habits such as regular studies or warmups or whatever is meant to be good for you) which definitely isnt the most “productive” way but i mean it doesnt have to be. its just a hobby! you dont have to perfect art. but yes, i would definitely say dont stop drawing. youll always be your harshest critic and at the beginning, and especially if you begin at an older age because youve been training your eye your whole life but your drawing skills for only a relatively short time you will notice a lot of mistakes. and youll think you wont achieve the image you have in your head. and maybe you wont (because youll always strive for more and youll never really be satisfied as an artist bla bla) for a while. but you have to keep drawing! try out different strategies, find out how other artists draw, watch speedpaints, try out different papers and pencils, try everything that makes it more fun and keep going! it will all pay off!! 

in my eyes theres also no point in saying “i should wait till im better to draw this idea i have” because if inspiration strikes you you should use that. even though i still sometimes catch myself thinking like that. you can always redraw things later on!! if theres anything that will keep you drawing you should use that! like getting into shows and games that make me want to draw helps a ton LOL people are not joking when they say getting obsessed with one character is the quickest way to improve. i 100% agree!!! if you saw my first nachos you wouldnt even recognize him. not kidding wow this got long. thank you for the questions though!! i hope some of my rambling can help you. feel free to talk to me whenever!

For some context hahaha: We have a shared workroom and he was coming on for the day and I was just getting off (read: sleep-deprived, not thinking straight hahaha). Just for personal reasons, I won't say what my profession is 😅 (though I'm sure some ppl are able to guess). He's in higher up position than me, but he works on a different team. i remembered i replied to an ask a bit similar to yours some years ago actually, maybe it can be helpful? (copy/paste bc link doesn't work aaa) :

im not sure to be the best person to ask, i see exposure like some kind of accident really. like, you make a drawing that may suddenly fly far away and then lots of people can see it and among them some will maybe enjoy looking it as well, etc etc! but ofc, and you probably know it, if you make fanarts, your works have higher chance to visit lots of blogs, because they are in the tags, and the person seeing your works is also already invested in the original manga/book/game/…, so it’s always super nice to see fanarts of it! That being said, it wouldn’t be interesting to draw things just bc you know they are popular or something. Draw for yourself. If you’d like to draw a fanart of this or that, then do it and enjoy it ! and if you don’t want to, do not force yourself.

tbh, i think if i have an advice for beginner artists, it would be to continue to draw, simply. exposure will come with time. There is the undeniable luck factor, and there is also the fact that, with your drawings becoming better and better, more people will come see them and share them. Make it easy for people to find your works with relevant tags on platforms you like, and either you draw only original / fanarts / …, you’ll definitely reach people who will enjoy your works. Be patient, be happy with what you draw, and work hard. if you need advices or constructive criticisms about your drawings etc, don’t hesitate to ask ! everyone is learning and every artists had to begin at some point. and yeah, i’d say that, if you’re beginner, don’t rush and think that what matters when you share your art online is the number of this or that etc. don’t mix up your works’ popularity with the value you grant them yourself. Be proud and fairly, kindly, critical about what you draw. focus on getting better, and have fun!

My very random idea for a Tattooshop AU that isn’t even a full idea.

Aleksi wants to get his first tattoo, a big flower on his arm, he had thought long about what he wants and where because it’s not an easy decision to make

But he’s afraid of the actual process and takes his best friend Joonas with him so he can hold his hand (otherwise he would never go)

Joonas is excellent in distracting, can talk for an hour straight and is great at telling jokes so you can shut off your brain and just let his words flood your mind

Joel is the tattoo artist (not sure though if I want a hyperactive man as him high on 5 cups of coffee tattooing me though) and he only jumps in because Niko who was originally intended to do the job was busy with a cat emergency

He’s so gorgeous and Aleksi is instantly ‘omg he’s so hot’ and he’s only getting more nervous because he will spend at least 2 hours next to him

Joel flirts with Aleksi in his own awkward way which Aleksi doesn’t realize at all, mostly because he’s still terrified of the needle and is just powering through

Joonas gets along with Joel instantly (like they’re basically platonic soulmates) and talks his ear off and Aleksi thinks great I will never stand a chance against Joonas of all people and is only a little jealous (more like a lot)

But after Joonas clarifies that he has no interest at all Aleksi looks forward to the check up appointment

The day comes but of course he doesn’t get a word out and only stares at sharp cheekbones, and blue eyes, and tattooed arms and suddenly he’s out of the shop again

He needs a new plan to get to talk with Joel and he can’t just simply walk by, that won’t do

So what is the best way to see him again? Obviously getting another tattoo

You would typically protect Goro from the horrors of your old household

It was obvious he knew about the things your mother would do for money, but you continued to increase the volume of his favorite tv show anyways.

You were always by your mothers side as she vomited into the toilet, listening to her mumble about a man named Masayoshi Shido.

Eventually, your mother had decided to end it all, right in the middle of your living room.

You shielded Goro’s eyes, yet he still cried.

“It’ll all be okay Goro, just take my hand. Cover your nose okay? I know it smells bad. It’s gonna be okay. Trust me.”

There were always kids at different homes that would bully your brother, but you always put a stop to it. 

You didn’t like beating them up in front of Goro, but sometimes it was necessary.

As you moved from foster home to foster home, you both ended up in Tatsumi Port Island.

You were a 3rd year in a lower secondary school (15), while Goro was a 5th year in elementary (10). 

One day in class, Goro meets another young boy like him, named Ken Amada.

The two become good friends, and Goro is invited to the Iwatodai Dorms often so the two could hang out.

Blah blah blah skipping all the boring fluff, they find out you have the potential to use a persona!!! wow!!

“Well... That’s like, cool and all... but do you guys get paid to explore this damn place? It’s fuckin’ huge!”

You decide to join, and honestly, it was a lot of fun!

Fast forward about 7-8 years later, and well, the Phantom Thieves are a thing now.

You joined the Shadow Operatives as a reserve member, and Mitsuru delivered your old evoker to you.

Goro no longer lives with you, but that bitch ain’t slick.

It’s kinda obvious that he now has a persona, I mean, you can kinda tell just from being around him.

Deciding to visit his favorite cafe, you meet the boss, Sojiro Sakura.

He’s pretty chill, and the coffee there is absolutely amazing, so you continue to go, inviting Goro to come keep you company every once in a while.

He tells you about how stressful the mental shut down cases have become, and you rant about how draining working as a free-lance artist can be.

One day, you walk in to just get some normal coffee, and there are a bunch of teenagers sitting in the booths shushing one another.

Scanning your eyes across the kids, you notice Goro, standing in the back.

Oh my god? Did he just make? Friends???

“No way? My sweet, darling, baby, little brother? Has fr-”

“Shut. Up.” 

Meeting his new... *sniff* ... friends... has you filled with a joy you haven’t felt since Minato’s death.

They told you that they were mearly studying for an upcoming test, but judging by their outfits, they totally weren’t.

I mean, cmon, most of them clearly go to different schools.

So, as every good sibling should, you leave the cafe after getting your regular coffee (to go, of course) and tail after the group.

Yeah, it was weird, but you gotta make sure that Goro doesn’t end up doing drugs in the back alley.

Suddenly, the world swirls around you, and BAM! New totally normal red place!

You can feel your persona surge forward, this place is DEFINITELY filled with shadows.

Scanning the area, your eyes widen as you force yourself to not laugh.

Those are some of the funniest and most badass outfits you’ve ever seen oh my god-

Calming down, you decide to tail them, again.

I mean cmon it’s so obvious as to who’s who.

Hell, even the cat being some kind of talking creature doesn’t faze you, it’s basically Komaru but like... sassier? or something.

As you tail after them, the cat suddenly turns into a weird ass van.

And drives away.

You groan out loud, and decide to just go by foot, your used to it that way anyways.

You’ve been wandering this single area for a while now, and by the gods above wHY IS THIS PLACE NEVER ENDING.

Turning around, you plan to leave, but just as you thought life couldn’t get any worse...

Chains echoed throughout the tunnels. 

It’s been a while, but you have a feeling that you can take this guy one on one.

Starting off the battle, you raise up your evoker and-

Jumping from the loud yell, you fail to use the evoker, and instead dodge a bullet aimed straight at your face. 

“FIGHTING THE REAPER? IDIOT!”

The little cat van thing skirts on the railways as Goro and his friends rush out to protect you from the enemy.

They all call out to their personas and it’s honestly quite impressive.

They handle the Reaper well, but it’s clear that they’ve been fighting some tough enemies for a while now.

You can see how some team members will wobble when standing, how their shoulders shake with every breath.

Deciding that they clearly don’t have enough energy to spend on doing the killing blow, you step in.

Raising your evoker, you can feel how the metal implants itself somewhere on your head.

“Y/N STOP! DON’T-”

“PERSONA!”

The rush of familiar energy courses through you as you use a heavy hitting blow on the Reaper, finishing it off.

Silence follows, maybe you should’ve just used a simple melee attack? That would be less scary for other involved...

Before you could finish any train of thought, you were tackled onto the ground.

Goro shakes as he hugs you, and the other Thieves run up to check on the both of you.

Once they all conclude that you’ve sustained no injuries, the questioning begins.

“What was that?”

“For real? You’re a persona user?”

“How come you used a gun to summon a persona?”

Finally, after a long drive back up to the surface, you all leave the metaverse, and called it a day.

Arriving at your small apartment, he turns to you.

Laughing, you both fall asleep on the couch after binging the old seasons of Phoenix Ranger Featherman.

You later decline joining the fight against Maruki, this is their battle not yours.

Story outline{ imma be following cliche movie shit that i hate. Imma use the flashbacksies}

Chp1: •Dramatic inner monologue on a roof. Is a hero, achieved all she wanted in life, has her own agency. Hears a sound and goes to fight villain, she accesses the situation, form a climax/tension->

•flashback/past, The day she knew she would become a hero.

•(?)interceding flashes of past and present of her determination to be a hero(beat the villains ass ayyy, ends with a flash of the future(?)

Chp2: •Description of her day, painfully detailed, as boring as possible, end in cheerful note about how she loves how boring it is, and how for her its not boring at all. Description includes how her agency works, how it interacts with nearby agencies, what the status is for the neighbourhoods in general, how the crime rate is, compares it to other crime rates for other villains and hero's areas. Talk about her small number of employees and how she found them, briefly. Talk about where she sleeps, if its in an apartment, if it's in the office, where both are located and about the neighbours. Talk about the neighbours, about their clothes and their voices and how she feels about them, all in that satisfied this-is-normal-and-i-love-it kind of way. Talk about if she has a pet, about her apartment, touch briefly about something that reminds her of hero school, continue describing her apartment and the things there. Move on to what she's gonna eat, from where, what fast food and groceries, about how she thinks about food and who or if she shares her meals with. Have her have an idea for the community in general and head to bed.

•Flashback that surrounds the item that made her remember something. It needs to be something that makes her bittersweet. Like how her school was full of assholes, and that her teacher didn't like her because she was either too quiet or too loud, how she poked at too many sore spots and was bullied for it. Talk about a grand event similar to the sports festival at UA, and how a teacher -just tease, maybe don't even properly name- encouraged her to be better, and made her actually put up a fight, despite considering herself a coward at the time, and ended up getting 3rd place. Finish with her hurt, in pain but staring her bullies and the people who defeated her(maybe someone with something similar to pain quirk) down(also bullies?).

Chp3: •Describe in painful detail about her day to day school life. Her first year or second. Describe the building, if its dorm system or home-to-school system, describe what she sees on her way there, and the people she talks to. Talk about her bullies and the victims, and the people who watch, talk about the other classes and someone she admires at school, who she wishes she would talk to if she only had the courage. Talk about the teachers, how they interact, talk about her favorite teacher and how he helps her so much and how he takes care of her.

On the verge of an anxiety attack the entire time but in like the best possible way?? it’s a mastery of character introduction and action/horror and I cried for like the last ten minutes straight. SO affecting. I do NOT RECOMMEND IT if u are already made anxious by zombie apocalypse scenarios, blood, violence, and a Lot of Death. 

last show you binged: hmmm uh like I’m currently watching Mystic Nine but at like a normal pace, so the last show I probably binge watched was maybeeee The Uncanny Counter on Netflix? HIGHLY recommend that one, I made @cross-d-a watch it and I’m living for her liveblog reactions lmao. Idk most of my free time has been spent writing the past few months which. After months of only having the energy to watch shows is kind of really invigorating? the things u can do when u fix ur health I’ll tell you what

average hours of sleep: my sleep app says I average around eight! which is very good for me! I do have to get enough sleep consistently or I will Have A Bad Time so my sleep schedule is pretty good and luckily I don’t have the Insomnia depression I have the Sleep Lots one which I am glad for bc idk what I’d do if I couldn’t Be Unconscious regularly. Die probably.
