like, jesus, being told by your instructor "i'll have you watch but then you're going to do it" and in the back of your mind, you're like "i am?"

we never saw anything in the times where we were called down to the ED for rehab evals (like i said, if it was REALLY bad, they skip us and go downtown) but I've watched a few ortho surgeries. besides being told very firmly "whatever you do, do NOT cross the sterile field and do NOT touch anything" they didnt really explain what they were doing. so when they're scrubbing in and putting on what look like literal space suits, I didn’t ask anything. and the nurse told me "if you stand here you'll have a good view" (standing looking in the direction from the patient's feet while theyre lying on the operating table)

but then she said "whenever he picks up the mallet, you should get out of the way" and then didn't elaborate 💀

turns out they wear those suits with the face shield because shit goes flying 😭 but they did let me hold some of the excess cement used when putting joint replacements in to feel the exothermic reaction as it hardens, so that was pretty cool

anyway, the part about not giving away little pieces of your heart to each patient is true. and the part about caring too much sometimes. there will be patients that keep you up at night, but if you dont leave that shit at work for the most part, you're begging for burnout

ORTHO LMFAOOOOOOO yeah I don't think a whole lot people realize that ortho OR's are just an active construction zone. (I was in an emergency ortho case for three hours and they played nine inch nails the entire time.) I'll delve into it a little more when ollie shadows surgery, but our onboarding they literally told us "you are going to pass out in the OR at some point. do not do it into the sterile field." so it's v much a culture of "yeah you can die but please do it in a way that is as convenient as possible for everyone else"

there's been several ORIF cases where we finish and it's time to wipe stuff down and I'm looking at the c-arm like. how did blood even get this far. literally how.

realizing you literally cannot care about every single person you see is soooo hard. like eventually you figure it out but the process of getting there is for sure difficult in a way that's kind of hard to conceptualize. and then some patients get into your heart and stay there anyways no matter what you do. squatters, smh.

he's a complete 180 with kids compared to with adults LOL. he thinks grown adults are the dumbest people to walk the earth, but kids are magical! which makes him a good, if not slightly hilarious, fit for peds. his two cat markers are very dear to me.

if you don't know what markers are, they're little indicators for images. so it's going to have the technologists initials, an L or an R for left or right respectively, and sometimes a few BB's to showcase orientation. there's lots of customization you can do with them- in max's case is his left marker is jimmy, and his right marker is sassy. ollie has student markers, which means no customization quite yet!

Just finished the King's men and I dont have words. I reallt was not expecting to like it so much especially with having just finished trc but IM OBSESSED

Im baffled at how it was able to get me to care so much about sport and feel genuinely interested. At first I definitely glossed over the game heavy chapters but by the end I was literally on the edge of my seat wanting to see what happened.

I'm obsessed with Andrew and Neil. The way they broke down eachothers barriers and relearned trust. The way andrew ahowed Neil how to stay. The way Neil got under Andrews skin and learned who he is . The banter. "I hate every inch of you" UGH. Need more of them ASAP (I'm about to go read the extras immediately)

I LOVE Kevin (brainrot so bad I kept accidentally calling someone Kevin when his name is Keith...). At the start I thought he was a bit of an ass but as it went I understood why he was how he was a lot better. Wanna see wore if him and Jeremy /Jean so bad cause I just know that man collects homoerotic friendships like stamps. I need to get into the sunshine court soon. Also the reveal of Coach as Kevin's dad was INSANE. I was shook. And "did you know I've never been skiiing" he's crazy. Also Riko at the end.. Very unexpected .

Love how andrew and Aaron's problems weren't just immediately resolved after one chat, it made it feel a lot more like they had a real history and problems rather than just some surface level issues yk?

My only thing is I wish we knew more about some of the other foxes but i think with the extras and the rest of the books I'm sure I'll find out more! I mostly want to know about Renee, the bits we di know are so interesting I want more details so badly.

I finished this bad boy 🤗👇 the other day and as per usual I have MANY feelings about it. Spoilers under the cut of course. But before that can I just to say one more time THIS COVER IS SOOOO GORGEOUS LANZHOU MY MOST BEAUTIFUL DEADLY PRINCESS!!!

I need to know what kind of drugs was t97 putting in this novel while writing it because it is soooo addicting I'm not even kidding. I'm not a fast reader by any means but each volume of qjj so far I've read in like a week tops. And like considering the fact that most of my day is spent at work and other house chores I'm mind-blowed at myself lmfao.

I just. I love loooooveee the progression of the story and the characters. I dont find the politics part hard to follow especially when there is always a point where someone explains clearly what is happening at the current moment (like at the end of this vol when Yao Wenyu laid out Lanzhou's whole plan clearly) so it makes it quite satisfying to follow along. If there is something I hadn't understood before, these sort of check-in moments are very helpful.

I love how we're moving along all over the empire along with the characters. Like we started only in Qudu like they were. Now we're in Cizhou and the other surrounding cities as Lanzhou works to take control of them while Libei is getting more and more spot lights as XCY returns there. If the cover of vol 5 is any indication next vol we're gonna spend some time in Qidong too? I love how this makes the world of the story feel so expansive and lived in. And how we're following all these different characters as they go on their journeys and how their paths are connected at certain points.

Speaking of connected paths tho. Cezhou?? CEZHOU!!!!!!!! oh my god when I tell you I'm obsessed with them. They're literally giving me everything I've ever wanted in a couple and I'm going a little insane ngl. I dont even know what to say to describe my feelings and thoughts other than feral animal noises. Seeing them continue to deepen their relationship is soooo good. The mutual understand that keeps growing between them, how they can understand each other's intentions without a single look or word - when XCY sent that milk back from Libei and Lanzhou understood immediately what he was trying to say or when XCY reads Lanzhou like a book even tho Lanzhou is still skittish and trying to hide the depth of his feelings and thoughts from him... so. fucking. good.

Dare I say their sex scenes are THE best smut I've read in danmei so far klsjdskj. Granted, I havent read like THAT many novels yet but I don't think I'll be able to find another novel with sex that is THE DEFINITION of tenderhorny smut that would make the best AO3 writers proud. It's got feelings, it's got character traits, it's got horny through the roof, it's got sensuality and kinks and desire, it's got everything. XCY's insane possessiveness and need to be as close to Lanzhou as humanly possible, Lanzhou's seductiveness and coy tactics when he wants to distract XCY but also ALSO!!!!

I adore the fact that Lanzhou takes and controls his sexuality as much as XCY. Like you can see without a doubt that he also feels the same way about XCY, he wants him, he gets horny for his man, he wants to be fucked by him and even more than once, he's the one edging XCY to keep going because Lanzhou is also as much in love and in lust with this man as XCY is with him and I just fucking love how that is freely expressed in the text. Lanzhou isn't just laying there going "well if you must 🙄🙄" which is kind of the vibe I used to get from a lot of other bottoms in bls. Makes cezhou soooo unbelievably hot to me.

And no end that part pf the chapter with them so so reluctant to part. Lanzhou clinging to him so tightly and XCY "had never found standing up so difficult before" - they're so needy for each other. Absolutely perfect.

I need to give a shout out to XCY again - that man is so HNNGGG I FUCKING LOVE HIM SO MUCH. When he kowtowed to shifu to apologize for hurting Lanzhou in the past and promising to take care of him always and forever, the way I had to put the book down for a moment pls. When he begged shifu to look after Lanzhou and just to scold him a little if Lanzhou gets hurt again and then if he must, to whip XCY instead?? like sir!! he adores Lanzhou so much, he can't bare a single moment of pain to be inflicted on him and he will not allow it. The other thing I really love is how his character arc is shaping up in regards to Libei and his family. I love that he loves his brother and father so much but he is also not without his own ambitions and he is prepared to fight them for the throne in Libei and come out as the new alpha. Him being given the lowest position in the army right now makes me so excited for the next vol when he's gonna keep fighting his way to the top.

Idk if I've said this before but I looove all the supporting characters. They're so fun and interesting and I can't believe how quickly I got attached to them. Like the way shifu and the kids love Lanzhou so much, the way he takes care of them, the way Qiao Tianya teases him and looks after him like a little brother (after Lanzhou lost his big brother! 😭) - it's all so precious. If any of them dies, you're gonna hear my crying from half the world away ngl.

Speaking of Qiao Tianya ok, that man is so damn sexy and I gotta say the way the gang found Yao Wenyu at the end in the state he was in (ouchie 😭😭) and Qiao Tianya's thoughts on it gagged me. I'm vibrating so hard in anticipation of how these two are gonna interact from now on, I know this ship will bring me pain but I'm here for it.

ALSO ALSO LASTLY BUT NOT LEAST, the way the tragic old men yaoi in this vol came out and kicked me in the teeth and left me screaming in my friend's DMs was iconic tbh. QJJ really has everything you could ask for - old men yaoi, young men yaoi, doomed yaoi, happy yaoi, lesbians, found family, adorable animals, FROGS, XCY being the angry wife with the kneeling husband meme. Cannot wait for the next volumes pls I need to inject this novel in my veins.

like tying back to fandom misogyny (i know i know i've been on it for a while i'm sorry) not only is so much of the language around the hatred for Tower/the Shifting Mound misogynistic and, when people aren't straight up calling them bitches or saying they'd be more attractive if [x] or treating them like Objects, Prizes, Romantic Interests and saying they're Bad Princesses and the Worst Romance and the worst wife/prize compared to other princesses like the precious wecious Thorn and HEA and Damsel or whatever

they're mad at Tower/Shifty for a lot of the Exact Same Reasons they love Voices.

like the Opportunist abuses his power every time he has is, actively lies to others (though he isn't very good at it.) He is #1 Princess Stabber/Killer/Slayer. when he doesn't want to kill her, it's because he's getting something out of her. but he's a Male Character whose trauma is #valid unlike Tower who also likes to abuse her power to get something from the player and who was (checks notes) locked in a basement and then attacked with a knife by the first person she met.

Cold is another big proponent of "what if we stabbed her/killed her." and constantly shows up when you commit acts of horrible cruelty to the princess but he's a Male Character and him wanting to exorcise the Spectre was sexy and not like, a horrifying moment where she freaked out and wanted nothing more than to get away from him. him being unempathetic and generally uncaring/numb is a Fun Character Trait unlike the literal goddess of death Shifty. cold is great but the woman he's so similar to and who is, in many ways, kinder than he is? yeah she's rude and arrogant we hate her.

Contrarian is often so cruel to the Princess, doesn't really give a shit about her, is there for a laugh, and only regrets what he's done after he's gone way too far (Advy-Fury, Stranger...) and "too far" often means Literally Killing Her For a Laugh or multiplying her until the world itself collapses and she's a frankenstein of half-dead half-alive beings. so it's no surprise he considers himself "the worst part of us" but also he's FUNNY he throws the KNIFE OUT THE WINDOW he's a great character unlike Tower or Fury or Nightmare who toy with us the player! They're so fucking mean and unjustified and go way too far! Their buried pain is nothing while Contra's is valid <3

And then Stubborn! In the majority of chapters he appears in, he wants nothing more than to kill/fight the princess. Wild and Advy are the only exceptions...and Advy isn't an exception at all, just the only circumstance where the Princess actively wants an equal challenger and isn't permanently hurt by the fights the two get into. She's the only princess he cares about, and she's just like him. But yeah no Tower's selfish and the Shifting Mound wanting to fight us forever sucks and is rude but Stubborn? he's a badass he's awesome <3

i'm not going to get into All of the Voices because some of them are less inclined to violence than others, and lash out in different or more understandable ways, but so many of the voices above are fan favorites and they do just...horrible things to the Princess (by supporting a player who chooses to do the horrible things those Voices want to do, of course, and sometimes by acting on their own!)

and to be clear. I DO LIKE THE VOICES. but part of why i like them is BECAUSE they suck! they act in horrible ways that mirror the player's actions, the princess' actions, and when the bar is on the ground they'll help the player dig! it's fascinating!

but i also really like the princess-i like them way more than the voices-and think it's so blatantly hypocritical to hate on said Princesses for doing a lot of the same shit the Voices do for what are honestly much more understandable reasons. the voices are on a path in the woods and get a cool knife. the princess is locked in the basement of a cabin with no way out. these situations are not the same.

AND THE DEMON KING TRANSFORMATION i already talked abt it above but i wanna point out this blue system box here

a power outside of the system?!?? what does this mean for the protagonist of the new prequel bk_moon is writing?? is the weather forecasting included in this???

my first assumption right now is that the demon king power is just an in-world power system while everything else (ie the weather forecasting) is external, blue-textbox system. maybe? so lloyd got the demon king power which comes with skills separate from the ones that the system can provide? that would explain why there's no indication of lloyd trying to use the weather forecasting, he probably can't use it,,,? except i dont know why artanis can use it in that case. most likely i am overthinking it LMFAO

semi-related, i am a little confused as to why artanis did this? i guess she really, really trusted him w this power? or maybe her weather forecasting noted that this would be something good to do i have no idea,,, it Does feel a bit sudden i won't lie, i'm not sure how earned this is

i think showing them at emily's wedding really cements how much they really, REALLY need to fight fate now. the novel events happening is very very bad, but it feels like now that so many people, emily especially, have found THIS much happiness in their lives,,, failing to stop fate will hit even harder. i really like the analogy of a taut bow that the dragon king used when he first described it, bc it's really REALLY showing how much the repercussions will hit if they fail. im praying they succeed,,, please,,, i need a happy ending or i will curl up and turn into an actual shrimp irl.

and now the demons have to build the pantara railroad,,, artanis's expression omfg

some other thoughts of note that i had with a dear mutual (hi sprout :3) about this ep:

we were talking about how the plot seems to be paced right now, and honestly i'm of the opinion that while yes its Technically moving, the way they're ending each ep in this current arc makes it feel like it's going both very slow and very fast, that is to say it feels like it's not moving at all

bc they're like "okay NOW we're gonna do the build project" and it's been like that for several episodes now. pieces are moving but we're going past the point of it all too fast (especially the whole demon king thing. mentioned this before but while cool, doesn't feel as earned simply bc we're both tackling each point and yet blowing past all the points, so it's a lot less satisfying than it should be (despite how awesome it is,,, oh lloyd you give me so much internal conflict </3))

it does make me a lil worried that they're gonna timeskip the hell out of the pantara railroad build. however this episode, although it still has a weird pacing/movement issue, does feel a little bit better than the last two imo, so i have hope that it'll turn out okay, that it'll start heading up! i'm actually really excited to see where they go with this and i'm sure that even if the pacing is still goofy i'll have some kind of fun with it (seriously the panels this ep were wonderful HAHA)

weird ask, but tips for makeing a ENA oc? Not and ENA sona but idk what the world for ENA is called so ;w; ANYWAY any tips?? ^^

HMM i'll try my best for some good tips, but i think the thing that rocks so much about the world of ENA that intrigued me so much, is the endless creativity within it!

There's a lot of different inspirations that go into ENA from what i've seen, artistic, cultural, everything is really abstract and up to interpretation so you can do a lot within it.

Maybe you have a particular artists work you like? (ena's initial design language being inspired by Picasso) You have a folkloric inspiration like i did with Birch and the Wild hunt? (though i did cheat a little bit because birch was already existing as an oc with much of the same background, haha)

Taski Maiden and Mitu are based off of existing arts, there's a lot thats explained for each character on their respective wiki's, you can take a look around the information many have compiled to get an idea of a starting point if you need!

I think alongside a fun inspirational point, you can use the vibe, gahah! A vague sentiment, but understanding the tone of the world can really help writing within it. ENA as a series is such a beautiful dichotomy of nonsensical whimsy and touches of disorder and deeper turmoil, though that may be more than what you're asking for here AKSJDH.

I'd suggest maybe looking into stories you liked growing up, or inspirations of art or culture you currently have! I've always been really interested in folklore, and I grew up in nintendo 64 era (especially inspired by majoras mask, to be specific), so adding a bit of that odd polygonal style to Birch has been really fun to play around with. Try mixing up your inspirations into a new, strange little creature!
